Very smooth and helpful operation
I found this Company on instagram and straight away i was impressed how engaged they were without being pushy trying to make a sale. They listened to my wishes and gave lots of options. I appreciated that any request i had Ronan our advisor kept us in the loop and fulfilled all the tour requirements we wanted to take in Seville. Very smooth process, extremely responsive which was a plus for me and very friendly. I usually hate cold calls but once or twice when Ronan needed to call me, he was always very friendly, courteous and not intrusive at all. All in all it was a great experience using their services, i hope the trip will go as smoothly as the booking. Cant wait to book another trip through them. Thank you

5star for travel centre and Steve!
I have had the pleasure of sorting flights out with Steve Carvalho. He has been incredibly patient, I had lots of questions! As I have never used this before. Everything was explained, and he managed to find a payment method flexible and affordable to me just right for what I needed for flights from South Africa. Quick responses to WhatsApp messages and reassurance through the whole process has been second to none. Without a doubt will be using this again in the future! Thank you so much for everything and all of your help! Steve also reassured that he was on hand whenever I need him. To answer questions and talk about anything in regards to the booking. Could not be happier!

My third booking with Kenny, and again very helpful and even managed to arrange for my friend to be located on the same flight etc... Always happy to answer my questions when I am unsure and put my mind at ease.. Myself, daughter and granddaughter had an amazing time in Venice, with a good location and access to public transport. Next trip is Thailand with my granddaughter before my third trip. I look forward to Kenny supporting me with my next booking/adventure.

I would highly recommend this company
I would highly recommend this company, my agent Luther arranged everything for my 6 destination trip from flights with Emirates, internal flights, transfers and trips. Everything ran like clockwork, even got in touch with me while I was away with excursion voucher updates. My package was put together by Luther at I believe a very reasonable price for going to Singapore, Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi, Kuala lumpur and Bali. Hotels were amazing all bar 1 which Luther advised me to speak to reception about my issue, the hotel were accommodating and sorted the issue out. Travel center 10/10 quality service and thank you very much Luther.

Norman is amazing
I highly recommend this travel agency. I made an enquiry for our honeymoon and Norman got in touch very shortly after, explaining the next steps and requesting some details about what we are looking for. He sent us a quote for a honeymoon in Bali and we absolutely loved everything! The hotels, the activities and excursions, the locations, everything was flawless! He thought about everything and he made sure we will have an experience impossible to forget. He combined adventure with relaxation in perfect measure and all of it came with a very good price! I highly recommend this travel agency, and I extremely highly recommend Norman as a travel agent.

"Smile to Serve"
To whom it may concern. This morning around the time 8:30 /9 am I called up Travel Center and behold promptly the phone was was picked up by a cheerful young man, Harry Spencer. Harry displayed some very good manners, with politeness and cheerfulness, during our discussion he presented a good warmth and welcomig attitude, which I belive and I could sense, that he carried a smile on his face while our communication was going on. I must say his is subject knowledge was spot on, as he went along comminutating with me . He guided me well with much empathy and sympathy, although I was awaked a times. I am very grateful to Harry. I bought my ticket to Kerry Ireland, A happy Bunny and will have a great time at the wedding. Harry has also promised me he will keep an eye on my booking. That was very kind of Harry. I will recommend Travel Center to you. The staff are very approachable and helpful. I wish Harry Spencer all the best as he grows in the industry of travel and hospitility . Excellent Harry! It is a pleasure to receive a service with a smile.

The best time of year to visit Winchester is during the summer months of July and August. This time period offers the best chance for warm, sunny weather to help you enjoy all that this historic city has to offer! It is also peak time for tourists so expect the city to be busy.
May and September usually offers pleasant visiting weather too (though bear in mind it is the UK so the weather can be unpredictable)

Winchester Tourist Attractions – Things to do in and around Winchester
No visit to Winchester would be complete without a tour of its famous cathedral. The medieval Gothic cathedral is the final resting place of (amongst others) Jane Austen.
There is a small charge to enter the cathedral which we found to be worth it. This is a truly magnificent cathedral with a fascinating history.
The Great Hall & King Arthur’s Round Table
Hanging in the Great Hall of Winchester Castle is King Arthur’s Round Table. The tabletop is inscribed with the names of the knights of King Arthur’s court (and although King Arthus is largely accepted to have been a fictional character the Arthurian tabletop is a magnificent sight.
The tabletop has been hanging in the Great Hall since 1348.
Located only 24 miles (approximately 30 minutes by car) is Highclere Castle (or Downton Abbey to fans of the TV show and films)

A little about Flight Centre
Who are we? Glad you asked. We're the travel-obsessed Travel Experts. We're here to open up the world for those who want to see. Every day, we give people all around the world the opportunity to experience something really amazing—travel! We love what we do.
Experience is everything to us. In fact, we have over 38,475 collective years experience in travel. We started doing this thing over 40 years ago in Australia and haven't looked back since. In 1984 Flight Centre opened its doors in the UK, New Zealand in 1987, South Africa in 1994 and Canada in 1995.
Flights, stays, holidays, cruises, tours, you name it—we do it. Business travel? That's our business too. Complex tricky group bookings for a hard to organise event? Not a drama. If it's travel related, we are your people.
We're the flagship brand of Flight Centre Travel Group (FCTG), an Australian born international travel company. It's recognised as one of the top five largest travel agencies in the world today with more than 2,000 leisure, corporate and wholesale businesses in 11 countries. Visit our parent Flight Centre Travel Group website here.
Read on and we'll share a bit about our amazing 40-year history and what is important to us...
Travel Experts around the world
stores globally
years of combined experience
of our team are female
of our team are between 30-39 years old
40 years of taking off
It's been 40 years since we opened our very first store in Australia. What a ride it's been. During that time we've had our fair share of triumphs, challenges and of course, plenty of adventures. And, while we're no overnight success, thanks to our incredible teams and first-class customers, we're chuffed to be able to celebrate such a milestone.
Skroo (Graham Turner—our founder) and friend (Geoff "Spy" Lomas) buy a double-decker bus and take off on their first tour around Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
Fast forward your Sanyo cassette deck to the mid ‘70s and that one bus has multiplied like guinea pigs. Top Deck is born, operating in London, and the following year, in Brisbane, Australia.
Welcome to the '80s. Airlines have been deregulated and Skroo reckons Australia, the UK and NZ are ripe for the picking, which makes sense for a bloke who grew up on an apple farm. Flight Centre is born.
Flight Centre opens in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
Frankie says Relax don't do it... but we did it anyway and Flight Centre opens in London
We say Kia Ora to our cousins across the ditch, and Flight Centre starts operations in New Zealand.
The Captain first appears (we've had 5 of those, ladies and gents, since!) and we introduce the famous "Lowest Airfare Guaranteed" slogan. Enquiry quadruples after trials on TV and press ads.
The '90s were all about Friends, Seinfeld, Guns n Roses and Flight Centre floating on the Australian Securities Exchange. We open in South Africa, Canada, the USA, and re-launch in the UK. We also welcome a number of new brands into the family.
Throw a shrimp on the braai, because Flight Centre opens in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Flight Centre opens shop in Vancouver, Canada. Profit surpasses $10M and Flight Centre goes public on the ASX. Flighties purchase over 25% of shares available and set an Australian record for take-up by in-house people.
We hold the first Flight Centre Airfare and Holiday Expo at the Brisbane Convention Centre. In our first year, over 8,000 customers attend. An additional 3,000 the following. In 1998, we start Expos across Australia and New Zealand.
The world and travel changed forever with 9/11, collapse of Ansett, GFC and the Iraq War. Many other businesses contracted during this time, our strategy was to keep growing and enter new markets. We also launched the Flight Centre Foundation, our give back program to the communities we work, operate and travel in.
The '10s is when we officially became the Flight Centre Travel Group, reflecting the company's transformation from its traditional roots as a travel agent to a world-class retailer of leisure and corporate travel products.
We immediately know it as the decade when the world stops, and then re-opens. 2020 international boarders shut, airlines ground their fleets, FLT temporarily suspends trading on the ASX and Flight Centre stands down over 15,000 employees. We issue over $1billion in customer refunds.
The future is bright, we've turned 40, launched our new tagline "Experience our experience", travel is back and we are flooded with new and returning customers ready to turn their travel dreams into a reality again.

“disappointed”.
written by Abadan on 19/02/2024
I am grateful to a customer service person, who helped me for booking, and seat reservations for both sides of flights. **My rating of 4 star is only for that gentleman** After reservation I tried to pay with help of that guy. He is a real gentleman. We were discussing on what’s up. I wish I could mention his name. He patiently helped me and replied to all my questions. I am grateful to him and a big thank you. We had problem for payment. My husband and my credit cards and debit cards didn’t gone through/accepted. The price was fair comparing with other sale engine’s prices. It was 5.30pm and was end of that gentleman’s working hours. We agreed I make a payment through bank transfer next morning visiting my bank. Early morning I was in the bank. Money transfer has been done immediately.I received a confirmation email for receipt by that guy. Around 1.30 pm, he called me and said, I’ve to pay £110 extra because prices were increased. I was furious. I understood that the previous day - evening Travel Center UK’s website wasn’t upgraded, and I had payment problem which cost me £110 extra I’ve travelled to LA for 27 times. Never had a minor problem for booking and payment. Hopefully this will be the last time.

“Take your money then dont respond”
written by KayaMoore on 13/04/2023
We booked trip to New Orleans a weeks cruise, after this we spent mardi gras in New Orleans, then onto Memphis and then to Nashvile. Whilst waiting to get through security at New Orleans we received a text from our transfer driver informing us he had marked us as no show and left. We had prepaid Travel Center for this transfer. When we got through security we spoke to a Paramount rep (Travel Center/ Moresand group company) She was waiting for guests from Paramount on the same tour as us. She told us to take a taxi and get a receipt and send to Travel Center for reimbursment. This we did. On arrival at our hotel we were told we had a Deluxe King room (which we booked) only to find they didnt have one and were putting us in a windowless queen room. The hotels Travel Center put us in were quite a distance from downtown Memphis and Nashvile. The hotel in Nashvile had no hot water the day we arrived or the following morning, so it was cold showers. Again we had paid for an airport transfer from our hotel in Nashvile, it didnt turn up. We ended up in an uber 45 minutes later All this was booked direct with Travel Center whom we paid. We did not get our travel documents until less than 12 hours before we were due to leave for the airport. It was 17:20hrs the night before. Representative advised us we would get it 10 days prior to departure but we were still on the phone to them the night prior to leaving. We have submitted our receipt and several emails to the representative as well as photographs of shower control handle lying on the bath and been advised she would pass it on to the relevant dept. One of her responses said they would get back to us within 24 hours but have ignored all correspondance. It seems they have your money and couldnt care less what service or lack of you get. I would suggest getting everything in writing from them before parting with cash.

“Warning - They will sham you - DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY”
written by Zimmermanms181 on 24/02/2023
Originally given a 5 star review and I kept getting pushed for a review and at the time we had just paid for the tickets so had no reason not to. Then it all started to go wrong. Basically what they do is take your money , give you a reservation reference number, which means nothing, then they try to find cheaper flights so they can make more money. My wife was flying alone with two kids to Australia so we were looking for the easiest flights , which we though we had booked. What we ended up with was not what we ordered and we were told it was Emirates that made the changes , after calling Emirates this was not true, as TravelcenterUK did not book the flights the price went up and we were told by TravelcentreUK and extra £800 was needed , which was ridiculous. So my wife ended up with a 10hr wait in Dubai , and an additional return flight via Singapore with no baby seat. Sorry Agent , but you failed and I regret giving you the 5* in the first place. PLEASE LOOK AT ALL THE REVIEWS BEFORE YOU BOOK , LOTS ARE FAKE reviews
“Holiday booking ”

My agent was first class, so pleasant and patient, very helpful. I am so looking forward to the holiday he helped me organise. So far so good.
“Terrible ”
written by Ryleee275 on 01/12/2022
Terrible customer service - do not believe past reviews - never get back to you, 1 week before travel still not tickets etc - takes days for them to reply, some misinformation when booking on-line and you are not made 100% aware of the booking regulations. Be Aware - would not use them again

“Stay away. ”
written by Stefanoppppp on 22/05/2022
Awful communication. Did not tell us covid requirements so we lost our dream holiday. We were offered a refund on flights and now they are ignoring all communication. Do not use.
“O stars service !!!”
written by Alejandra291 on 17/05/2022
If I could I will give 0 stars.!!! Booked to go to Bali. Week before due to fly that the flight had been cancelled, he keep saying he will find something for us.. finally he never helped us at all! He is hopeless and avoiding us from 3 weeks we waiting for the refund and still nobody call us back. Very poor communication and poor service. Not recommend to anyone Travel Centre.
“Damn disgrace of a company”
written by Curran466 on 07/09/2020
This company fooled myself a disabled lady into what I thought was a good deal and without the proper options or advice from them during covid. I was GARUANTEED a full refund if rules changed for trip to Iceland during covid Needless to say after booking and paying large deposit on the trip a few weeks later the covid rules changed and there was no way at any time holiday could have been taken. I did not panic as I was told at time of purchase if covid rules change I would get a full cash refund without hesitation. Sadly this clearly was a sales pitch only as when it came to the crunch I was told i would be getting nothing if I did not change dates I explained due to disability and life situation I could not go a year later To cut a long story short after constant calls and arguments about how his was a disgrace i was told could get half and to reply to an email requesting holiday be cancelled This i did and voila no refund has been given when again questioned I was informed easy jet can take up to 9 months to refund which is a total fabrication as my best friend owns his own travel agents and verified it as being incorrect when looked into. I called again to state this asking for full refund and why when was told 5 to 10 days had nothing. I again was told various stories and fobbed off with ten percent voucher which did not arrive either. Sadly I am still fighting this matter and have every intention of taking it further and I will not rest until I get my refund and not 9 months down the line I beg you not to entertain them in any way you will regret it I can assure you Disgraceful customer service my list goes on...

“Unforgettable Family Ski Trip! ”
written by Mariyahy223 on 03/06/2020
Thank you Travel Center for a promptly organised lovely family ski trip to Bansko!❤ That was last minute booking, it was a Bday present to my child in February. ⛷ Trip was tailored to our needs, agent sent us multiple offers, dates, hotel choices prior booking, communicated professionally and responded to every query, considered every detail, the whole holiday price was very reasonable. Prompt meet up in airport, comfortable transfer to resort, lovely hotel with mountain views and lovely spa, sauna, swimming pool. Friendly staff at the hotel made my child's Bday so special! Transfer from hotel to ski slopes was quick and comfortable, ski passes and equipment was organised for us and was ready to collect. The only dissapointment was queueing at the lift, as ski resort was quite busy during the half-term, though red and black slopes were empty, and blue slopes a bit busy. After sales service is also great, we had one small issue with late arrival meal - which was sorted in a very professional manner by the agent and his manager. Thank you guys for your help and care. Would definitely reccomend Travel Centre to anyone who wants to book tailored holiday!
“Good Service”
written by Tanyaw516 on 18/11/2019
This is my first booking with Travel Center and I really cannot fault their communication, prices, and customer service. Ma x has been helping me with a surprise trip to visit Chyenobal with my partner as a christmas gift. Hes gone through every detail possible, flights, hotel, transfers, other activities. We really did go through the holiday with a fine tooth comb to ensure every detail was perfect. Ma x never hesitated at all to answer my many questions and make last minute changes when needed. He ensured I was completely happy with every step before making the booking. Any concerns or questions I just emailed Ma x and he got back to me within 15 minutes! Very impressed with the service. I had read some reviews that some holidays were not booked properly through this company. I therefor held off writing a review until I had received and checked all the bookings. I received everything today and have thoroughly checked all bookings on their individual sites. All were booked as promised and as per the email. An A++ from me :) thank you
“ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE-DO NOT USE”
written by LauraHowson on 03/10/2019
I don't usually write reviews unless it is to praise good service, however, I am compelled to spread the word about just how bad this company are. Avoid at all costs!!
“Substandard service received ”
written by xkHancock430 on 02/12/2018
Booked a multi-city trip to South easy Asia with this company. The customer service I recurved was substandard- before, during and after my trip. Did not receive an e-ticket until the day before my trip. Was very anxious. Company couldn’t find my booking until an hour later. Companies policy states that you receive an e-ticket 72 hours before. What a joke! A connecting flight was missing from our booking. This lead to another abxuety provoking moment once on holiday in Asia. At one point we thought that we’d be stranded. Spent several pounds calling the U.K. from Asia. Company representatives later realised after several times of re-alliteratiing the problem. Connecting flight was later sorted out. However, there was a disparity in the baggage allowance which we later found out on arrival to the airport. Had to throw away 12kg of luggage each of valuable possessions. Came back to london with an expensive phone bill and valuables in which we had to dispose of in the spur of the moment. Called the travel centre and was given excuses from there not being a complaints team to the complaints team not being in on certain days. After, constantly calling was finally provided with the details of who to contact. Waited for a week and a half to receive a cover up telling me it was my responsibility to ensure that everything was in line with what I paid for despite recieving an e-ticket less than 24-hours before my flight. They failed to provide me with a sincere apology and a resolution. Do not waste your time with this company. There are much better company’s around who would provide you with better travel deals and a much better Standard of customer service.

Hepatitis A
Consider hepatitis A vaccination for most travelers. It is recommended for travelers who will be doing higher risk activities, such as visiting smaller cities, villages, or rural areas where a traveler might get infected through food or water. It is recommended for travelers who plan on eating street food.

Cases of measles are on the rise worldwide. Travelers are at risk of measles if they have not been fully vaccinated at least two weeks prior to departure, or have not had measles in the past, and travel internationally to areas where measles is spreading.
All international travelers should be fully vaccinated against measles with the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine, including an early dose for infants 6–11 months, according to CDC’s measles vaccination recommendations for international travel .
Measles (Rubeola) - CDC Yellow Book
the United Kingdom is free of dog rabies. However, rabies may still be present in wildlife species, particularly bats. CDC recommends rabies vaccination before travel only for people working directly with wildlife. These people may include veterinarians, animal handlers, field biologists, or laboratory workers working with specimens from mammalian species.

Avoid contaminated water
Leptospirosis
How most people get sick (most common modes of transmission)
- Touching urine or other body fluids from an animal infected with leptospirosis
- Swimming or wading in urine-contaminated fresh water, or contact with urine-contaminated mud
- Drinking water or eating food contaminated with animal urine
- Avoid contaminated water and soil
Clinical Guidance
Airborne & droplet.
- Breathing in air or accidentally eating food contaminated with the urine, droppings, or saliva of infected rodents
- Bite from an infected rodent
- Less commonly, being around someone sick with hantavirus (only occurs with Andes virus)
- Avoid rodents and areas where they live
- Avoid sick people
Tuberculosis (TB)
- Breathe in TB bacteria that is in the air from an infected and contagious person coughing, speaking, or singing.
Learn actions you can take to stay healthy and safe on your trip. Vaccines cannot protect you from many diseases in the United Kingdom, so your behaviors are important.
Eat and drink safely
Food and water standards around the world vary based on the destination. Standards may also differ within a country and risk may change depending on activity type (e.g., hiking versus business trip). You can learn more about safe food and drink choices when traveling by accessing the resources below.
- Choose Safe Food and Drinks When Traveling
- Water Treatment Options When Hiking, Camping or Traveling
- Global Water, Sanitation and Hygiene | Healthy Water
- Avoid Contaminated Water During Travel
You can also visit the Department of State Country Information Pages for additional information about food and water safety.
Prevent bug bites
Although the United Kingdom is an industrialized country, bug bites here can still spread diseases. Just as you would in the United States, try to avoid bug bites while spending time outside or in wooded areas.
What can I do to prevent bug bites?
- Cover exposed skin by wearing long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and hats.
- Use an appropriate insect repellent (see below).
- Consider using permethrin-treated clothing and gear if spending a lot of time outside. Do not use permethrin directly on skin.
What type of insect repellent should I use?
- FOR PROTECTION AGAINST TICKS AND MOSQUITOES: Use a repellent that contains 20% or more DEET for protection that lasts up to several hours.
- Picaridin (also known as KBR 3023, Bayrepel, and icaridin)
- Oil of lemon eucalyptus (OLE) or para-menthane-diol (PMD)
- 2-undecanone
- Always use insect repellent as directed.
What should I do if I am bitten by bugs?
- Avoid scratching bug bites, and apply hydrocortisone cream or calamine lotion to reduce the itching.
- Check your entire body for ticks after outdoor activity. Be sure to remove ticks properly.
What can I do to avoid bed bugs?
Although bed bugs do not carry disease, they are an annoyance. See our information page about avoiding bug bites for some easy tips to avoid them. For more information on bed bugs, see Bed Bugs .
For more detailed information on avoiding bug bites, see Avoid Bug Bites .
Stay safe outdoors
If your travel plans in the United Kingdom include outdoor activities, take these steps to stay safe and healthy during your trip:
- Stay alert to changing weather conditions and adjust your plans if conditions become unsafe.
- Prepare for activities by wearing the right clothes and packing protective items, such as bug spray, sunscreen, and a basic first aid kit.
- Consider learning basic first aid and CPR before travel. Bring a travel health kit with items appropriate for your activities.
- If you are outside for many hours in the heat, eat salty snacks and drink water to stay hydrated and replace salt lost through sweating.
- Protect yourself from UV radiation : use sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15, wear protective clothing, and seek shade during the hottest time of day (10 a.m.–4 p.m.).
- Be especially careful during summer months and at high elevation. Because sunlight reflects off snow, sand, and water, sun exposure may be increased during activities like skiing, swimming, and sailing.
- Very cold temperatures can be dangerous. Dress in layers and cover heads, hands, and feet properly if you are visiting a cold location.
Stay safe around water
- Swim only in designated swimming areas. Obey lifeguards and warning flags on beaches.
- Do not dive into shallow water.
- Avoid swallowing water when swimming. Untreated water can carry germs that make you sick.
- Practice safe boating—follow all boating safety laws, do not drink alcohol if you are driving a boat, and always wear a life jacket.
Keep away from animals
Most animals avoid people, but they may attack if they feel threatened, are protecting their young or territory, or if they are injured or ill. Animal bites and scratches can lead to serious diseases such as rabies.
Follow these tips to protect yourself:
- Do not touch or feed any animals you do not know.
- Do not allow animals to lick open wounds, and do not get animal saliva in your eyes or mouth.
- Avoid rodents and their urine and feces.
- Traveling pets should be supervised closely and not allowed to come in contact with local animals.
- If you wake in a room with a bat, seek medical care immediately. Bat bites may be hard to see.
All animals can pose a threat, but be extra careful around dogs, bats, monkeys, sea animals such as jellyfish, and snakes. If you are bitten or scratched by an animal, immediately:
- Wash the wound with soap and clean water.
- Go to a doctor right away.
- Tell your doctor about your injury when you get back to the United States.
Reduce your exposure to germs
Follow these tips to avoid getting sick or spreading illness to others while traveling:
- Wash your hands often, especially before eating.
- If soap and water aren’t available, clean hands with hand sanitizer (containing at least 60% alcohol).
- Don’t touch your eyes, nose, or mouth. If you need to touch your face, make sure your hands are clean.
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing.
- Try to avoid contact with people who are sick.
- If you are sick, stay home or in your hotel room, unless you need medical care.
Avoid sharing body fluids
Diseases can be spread through body fluids, such as saliva, blood, vomit, and semen.
Protect yourself:
- Use latex condoms correctly.
- Do not inject drugs.
- Limit alcohol consumption. People take more risks when intoxicated.
- Do not share needles or any devices that can break the skin. That includes needles for tattoos, piercings, and acupuncture.
- If you receive medical or dental care, make sure the equipment is disinfected or sanitized.
Know how to get medical care while traveling
Plan for how you will get health care during your trip, should the need arise:
- Carry a list of local doctors and hospitals at your destination.
- Review your health insurance plan to determine what medical services it would cover during your trip. Consider purchasing travel health and medical evacuation insurance for things your regular insurance will not cover.
- Carry a card that identifies, in the local language, your blood type, chronic conditions or serious allergies, and the generic names of any medicines you take.
- Bring copies of your prescriptions for medicine and for eye glasses and contact lenses.
- Some prescription drugs may be illegal in other countries. Call the United Kingdom’s embassy to verify that all of your prescription(s) are legal to bring with you.
- Bring all the medicines (including over-the-counter medicines) you think you might need during your trip, including extra in case of travel delays. Ask your doctor to help you get prescriptions filled early if you need to.
Many foreign hospitals and clinics are accredited by the Joint Commission International. A list of accredited facilities is available at their website ( www.jointcommissioninternational.org ).
Select safe transportation
Motor vehicle crashes are the #1 killer of healthy US citizens in foreign countries.
Be smart when you are traveling on foot.
- Use sidewalks and marked crosswalks.
- Pay attention to the traffic around you, especially in crowded areas.
- Remember, people on foot do not always have the right of way in other countries.
Riding/Driving
Choose a safe vehicle.
- Choose official taxis or public transportation, such as trains and buses.
- Make sure there are seatbelts.
- Avoid overcrowded, overloaded, top-heavy buses and minivans.
- Avoid riding on motorcycles or motorbikes, especially motorbike taxis. (Many crashes are caused by inexperienced motorbike drivers.)
- Choose newer vehicles—they may have more safety features, such as airbags, and be more reliable.
- Choose larger vehicles, which may provide more protection in crashes.
Think about the driver.
- Do not drive after drinking alcohol or ride with someone who has been drinking.
- Consider hiring a licensed, trained driver familiar with the area.
- Arrange payment before departing.
Follow basic safety tips.
- Wear a seatbelt at all times.
- Sit in the back seat of cars and taxis.
- When on motorbikes or bicycles, always wear a helmet. (Bring a helmet from home, if needed.)
- Do not use a cell phone or text while driving (illegal in many countries).
- Travel during daylight hours only, especially in rural areas.
- If you choose to drive a vehicle in the United Kingdom, learn the local traffic laws and have the proper paperwork.
- Get any driving permits and insurance you may need. Get an International Driving Permit (IDP). Carry the IDP and a US-issued driver's license at all times.
- Check with your auto insurance policy's international coverage, and get more coverage if needed. Make sure you have liability insurance.
- Avoid using local, unscheduled aircraft.
- If possible, fly on larger planes (more than 30 seats); larger airplanes are more likely to have regular safety inspections.
- Try to schedule flights during daylight hours and in good weather.

The Association for International Road Travel has country-specific Road Travel Reports available for most countries for a minimal fee.
Traffic flows on the left side of the road in the United Kingdom.
- Always pay close attention to the flow of traffic, especially when crossing the street.
- LOOK RIGHT for approaching traffic.
Maintain personal security
Use the same common sense traveling overseas that you would at home, and always stay alert and aware of your surroundings.
Before you leave
- Research your destination(s), including local laws, customs, and culture.
- Monitor travel advisories and alerts and read travel tips from the US Department of State.
- Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) .
- Leave a copy of your itinerary, contact information, credit cards, and passport with someone at home.
- Pack as light as possible, and leave at home any item you could not replace.
While at your destination(s)
- Carry contact information for the nearest US embassy or consulate .
- Carry a photocopy of your passport and entry stamp; leave the actual passport securely in your hotel.
- Follow all local laws and social customs.
- Do not wear expensive clothing or jewelry.
- Always keep hotel doors locked, and store valuables in secure areas.
- If possible, choose hotel rooms between the 2nd and 6th floors.
Healthy Travel Packing List
Use the Healthy Travel Packing List for United Kingdom for a list of health-related items to consider packing for your trip. Talk to your doctor about which items are most important for you.
Why does CDC recommend packing these health-related items?
It’s best to be prepared to prevent and treat common illnesses and injuries. Some supplies and medicines may be difficult to find at your destination, may have different names, or may have different ingredients than what you normally use.
If you are not feeling well after your trip, you may need to see a doctor. If you need help finding a travel medicine specialist, see Find a Clinic . Be sure to tell your doctor about your travel, including where you went and what you did on your trip. Also tell your doctor if you were bitten or scratched by an animal while traveling.
For more information on what to do if you are sick after your trip, see Getting Sick after Travel .
