Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Crowded House have become the latest major act to announce they are rescheduling their UK and European tour to 2022.

“For obvious reasons we are postponing our U.K./Europe tour to 2022,” reads a statement from the band. “Thanks everyone for being so understanding and staying strong through this crazy time. We cannot wait to be playing music for you all. What a cathartic time it will be.”

Unlike many global artists, Crowded House have been able to perform live recently. They are coming off a successful trek of New Zealand, featuring a touring party of founding members Neil Finn and Nick Seymour, along with producer and keyboardist Mitchell Froom, guitarist and singer Liam Finn and his younger brother, drummer Elroy Finn.

Crowded House - To The Island

Produced by Live Nation, the 12-date ‘To The Island’ run was one of the first national treks by any act post-COVID.

Meanwhile, Finn and Co. are readying the release of their first new album in more than a decade , Dreamers Are Waiting . Due out June 4, the forthcoming LP features the previously-released tracks “To The Island” and “Whatever You Want.”

Dreamers Are Waiting is the follow up to 2010’s Intriguer , one of the band’s five titles to top the albums chart in Australia .

The band had teased new material back in October 2020 with the release of “Whatever You Want,” which will appear on the new album. The band recently revealed the new album’s lead single titled, “To the Island,” along with a new video for the track, directed by Neil Finn and Mark Simon Brown and shot in a variety of locations worldwide, including Los Angeles, New Zealand, and Ireland.

Crowded House was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2016, in recognition of a stellar career during which they’ve sold more than 10 million albums and collected 13 ARIA Awards.

Dreamers Are Waiting is out on June 4 and can be pre-ordered here .

I had the pleasure of seeing Crowded House on 2 separate occasions in Wales, when the late Paul Hester was alive. Incredible band with wonderful humour and Neil Finn has always been a god in my eyes. :-)

Saw Crowded House @ the Opera House on Thursday (24/11/16). Wow. Neil and the crew sound better than ever. They played all the classics, the crowd was so involved. We sang along and danced, screamed. Tim came on for a few songs too, so that was great. Definitely the best concert I've been to. First time I've been to the opera house forecourt for a concert too, beautiful venue, sound was good too.

My friends and I still rave about Crowded House’s "Farewell to the World" show on the steps of the Sydney Opera House in 1996, 11 years after they formed. It was a free show on the Harbour Foreshore, with 200,000 people, yet you felt like you were watching them in your living room.

There’s a DVD of the show that was released to celebrate its’ tenth anniversary. The last song they sang was “Don’t Dream It’s Over”. The camera pans into the audience and there I am, in the very front row, crying and singing my heart out “Hey now, Hey How, When the world comes in”. It’s so raw and emotional, watching it still makes me shiver.

Neil Finn is an incredibly talented and prolific songwriter, also writing and performing solo, and alongside his brother Tim for the “Finn Brothers”. Every Crowded House song is such perfectly crafted pop, simple, pared back and so beautiful - from their earlier hits with “Something So Strong” and “Better Be Home Soon” through to “Saturday Sun” off their 2010 album "Intriguer". They reformed in 2006 with Matt Sherrod on drums. Their touring days have slowed, so you’d better catch these legends when they next pass by.

Eden Sessions concert: Crowded House plus Liam Finn

The Australasian rock icons Crowded House will be performing their decades-spanning hits at the Eden Sessions on Wednesday 12 June 2024. Special guest on the night will be Liam Finn.

About the band

Forming in Melbourne, Australia, in 1985, Crowded House have sold 15 million albums worldwide, with four number one albums in Australia, earning them 13 ARIA Awards, an MTV Video Music Award and a BRIT Award.

The band’s self-titled debut album was released in 1986 to huge acclaim, achieving platinum status in four countries. It included the massive hits Don’t Dream It’s Over and Something So Strong. The former became an international hit, reaching number one in New Zealand and Canada, and number two on the US Billboard Hot 100.

The second album, Temple Of Low Men, followed in 1988, peaking at number one in Australia and number two in New Zealand.

The original line-up consisted of Neil Finn (vocals, guitar, keys, and lyrics), Nick Seymour (bass and keys), and the late Paul Hester (drums and vocals). Over the years, the group has welcomed numerous high-profile musicians as members. Notable additions included multi-instrumentalist Mark Hart of Supertramp fame and Beck drummer Matt Sherrod.

Finn’s brother, Tim – founder of Neil’s former band Split Enz - also joined the band for their third album, Woodface (1991) co-writing eight of the tracks. Another major hit in Australia and New Zealand, this third album featured the UK top 10 hit Weather With You.

The band played an unforgettable farewell gig to a crowd of around 150,000 on the steps of the Sydney Opera House in 1996, raising money for the Sydney Children’s Hospital before a temporary nine-year hiatus.

The tragic passing of Hester compelled the band to regroup in 2005 to honour their former bandmate's memory. Time on Earth (2007) and Intriguer (2010) both reached number one in Australia, a testament to the band’s unwavering relevance.

Since the band’s seminal early albums, 2016 saw them inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame, while Neil Finn joined Fleetwood Mac in 2018 on a huge world tour.

The band reunited formerly in 2020 with its current line-up, featuring original members Finn and Seymour, joined by Mitchell Froom – producer of their first albums – and Finn’s sons, Liam and Elroy.

Their latest album, Dreamers Are Waiting, was released in 2021, marking the first full album release in 11 years and scooping up yet another ARIA for Best Adult Contemporary Album.

Special guest: Liam Finn

The son of Crowded House's Neil Finn, Liam has always followed his own path. From the adolescent guitar fireworks of his band Betchadupa, to his incendiary one-man performances (including spots on The Late Show with David Letterman and Later… With Jools Holland), he’s found ways to challenge and disrupt what you might expect from a singer-songwriter. His latest project Hyperverse finds him once again charting new territory, including fans in the writing and recording process in unprecedented ways, with even more ambitious plans to close the gap between artist and audience down the line.

Iconic 80s pop group to reunite 38 years after releasing their most iconic hit

Neil Finn of Crowded House performs

Almost four decades after their breakthrough hit, Crowded House are reuniting for a string of festival sets this summer.

The rock band originally formed in 1985 and instantly gained mainstream success with incredible debut album and biggest single Don’t Dream It’s Over, which came out in 1986.

Now, bandmates Neil Finn and Nick Seymour are joining forces as they release new music and head on tour as well to the Isle of Wight festival.

Crowded House are set to take to the stage on Friday, listed with headliners like The Prodigy , Green Day , and The Pet Shop Boys .

Nostalgia has truly taken over this year with everyone from Faithless  to The Feeling riding that lucrative reunion wave.

Crowded House is no different as the Australian band — plus New Zealander Neil — release their eight studio album Gravity Stairs next month.

Crowded House band members Nick Seymour, Paul Hester, Mark Hart, Neil Finn in 1992

Adding to the group’s long list of tour dates is On The Mount At Wasing festival in Reading this summer.

Their tour will start in June at venues like Eden Project, the historic O2 Empire in Shepherd’s Bush, and Cardiff Castle as they weave festivals across the UK in.

Along with live gigs, a new single has been released — Teenage Summer — with an unexpected album on the way, which will be the first since the band parted ways in 2018.

Speaking of their huge debut hit, Neil told Variety : ‘It’s the song in a Crowded House set that people can sing from beginning to end very easily, in a group context, community singing and all that. That’s always been a pretty important thing for us.’

While Don’t Dream It’s Over was Crowded House’s biggest hit, songs like Something So Strong, Better Be Home Soon and Distant Sun were all popular.

During this hiatus, Neil went on to join the legendary Fleetwood Mac after the exit of Lindsey Buckingham.

The band originally formed in the mid 80s, finding success globally through into the 90s when they released compilation album Recurring Dream.

Crowded House performing now

Founding brothers Neil and Tim Finn were each awarded an OBE in 1993 for their services to New Zealand’s music but split three years later.

Tragedy struck in 2005 when drummer Paul Hester took his own life, with the group reuniting a year later in his memory.

In 2012, Pete Jones who had replaced Hester as drummer died aged 45 from brain cancer with the band calling him a ‘warm-hearted, funny and talented man’.

Ever since, Crowded House has had multiple splits and reunions but this is their biggest yet, with huge festivals and an appetite for nostalgia backing them.

Crowded House’s new single is out now and tickets for their tour are available on their website .
