College sports | arizona cardinals pick hurricanes cornerback jaden davis in final round of nfl draft.
Jaden Davis spent one season with his hometown Hurricanes , and that vaulted him into the professional ranks.
The Arizona Cardinals picked Davis, who is a St. Thomas Aquinas alum, with the 226th pick in the seventh round of the NFL draft on Saturday. Davis is the second Hurricane picked in this year’s draft, following safety Kam Kinchens.
Davis was a standout for the powerhouse Raiders, earning Super 11 and first-team All-County honors . He was a four-star prospect and the No. 25 cornerback in his class, according to 247Sports.
Davis, a 5-foot-10, 180-pound cornerback, signed with Oklahoma out of high school and spent four seasons with the Sooners before transferring to UM.
In his one year with the Hurricanes, Davis earned a starting role and was a solid contributor. Davis had 32 tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack and four pass deflections. Pro Football Focus gave him a 76.8 defensive grade and a 72.1 coverage grade.

UDOT advises drivers to expect delays on Bangerter Highway and US-89 this weekend April 25, 2024
Expect weekend delays due for utility work in salt lake and davis counties.
The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) advises drivers to plan ahead for two major closures in Salt Lake and Davis counties this weekend.
Starting Friday, April 26, at 10 p.m., Bangerter Highway will be closed in both directions between 12600 South and Redwood while crews relocate utilities so UDOT can build a new interchange at 13400 South. During this time there will be no through traffic on Bangerter Highway for both the northbound and southbound travel lanes. This section of the highway will reopen Monday, April 29 in time for the morning commute.
Drivers traveling east and west on 13400 South will still be able to travel through the intersection but will not be able to turn onto southbound Bangerter Highway. Drivers traveling north and south on 2700 West will still be able to travel through the intersection but will not be able to turn onto northbound Bangerter Highway .
Drivers should expect delays in the area and can use 12600 South and Redwood Road as alternate routes.
This work is part of the UDOT Bangerter South project , which is converting the intersections of 9800 South, 13400 South and 2700 West into freeway-style interchanges, which are anticipated to be complete at the end of 2025. These projects are a key part of UDOT’s efforts to eliminate stop lights along Bangerter Highway.
Also this weekend, southbound US-89 will be closed at South Weber Drive beginning Friday, April 26 at 1 p.m. while crews install a new water pipeline for the Weber Basin Water Conservancy District. The road will reopen on Monday, April 29, in time for the morning commute. All US-89 southbound traffic should detour to I-15 South from Riverdale. Through traffic will be detoured back to Riverdale on I-84 West.
Construction schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change. For the latest information on traffic restrictions during construction around the state, visit the UDOT Traffic website or download the UDOT Traffic app for iPhone or Android . Follow UDOT on social media, including Twitter , Facebook and Instagram .

It's Night and Davis for Huskies' Second-Year Defensive Tackle
The Minnesota product is much more involved in his second spring football.
- Author: Dan Raley
In this story:
Sometimes we lose sight of the fact a good number of these University of Washington football players are just 18- or 19-year-old kids, dealing with being a long ways from home and not always in their comfort zone.
Take Elinneus Davis, for instance.
A year ago, this freshman defensive tackle from Minnesota arrived for spring football practice as an early enrollee, nursing some sort of injury that kept him on the sideline, and he often was spotted shuffling in and out of Husky Stadium all by himself.
At the Sugar Bowl, Davis didn't necessarily sound like he was long for Montlake when he offered a frank assessment of where his largely inactive first college football career stood at the time.
"This offseason is going to determine if I play or not, to be honest," Davis said in New Orleans. "I never want to be handed anything. I definitely want to work for it and, if I deserve it, then hopefully I'll get it. I need everything, to be honest. I feel like I've got a lot of room to grow."
Today, Davis is a former kid and a new man. Whereas last season he was largely out of shape and unsure of himself, he looks noticeably trimmer, upbeat and fully engaged with the Huskies.
Elinneus Davis heads for the locker room after a UW practice.
This past Saturday, the 6-foot-2, 322-pound player appeared surprisingly mobile as he jogged onto the field for the UW's ninth spring football practice, greeting and being greeted by teammates along the way.
Davis next dropped down on one knee, holding on tight to his helmet with his left hand, and he presumably said a prayer. Football-wise, his private moments are being answered.
Elinneus Davis, with his padded helmet perched on his head, makes the slow walk to the showers.
As music played loudly to get players moving and interested in practice, he jumped in line for UW defensive-tackle drills and did a little impromptu dance while waiting his turn. He was fully involved rather than be a spectator as before.
Into the scrimmage segments of this practice, Davis pulled plenty of snaps coming out of a stance with the No. 2 defense. He was as involved as all things Huskies as much as he was disengaged the previous spring.
In just a few months, he was night and Davis.
He was proof that teenagers in pads and helmets, with a little patience and growth, can turn into men on the football field almost overnight.
