Excursion to Gran Canaria from Tenerife

Arrival at Puerto de las Nieves (Agaete), to go towards Arucas (free time to visit around the cathedral).

Then we left the Villa de Teror to visit the Basilica del Pino , where the patron saint of Gran Canaria is located. We passed through the village of Valleseco (lunch on route).

After going through Fataga , summit until the highway to head towards Playa del Ingles to see the tourist area of the island and the dunes of Maspalomas. On the highway, we reach Las Palmas, sightseeing tour and visit to the old town. Finally, we will go to Agaete to go back to Tenerife.

Después de recogeros y trasladaros al muelle de Santa Cruz de Tenerife , tomaremos el ferry que nos dejará en el Puerto de las Nieves de Agaete , en la isla de Gran Canaria .

El itinerario por la isla de Gran Canarias es el siguiente:

1. Acuario Poema del Mar

Una vez en la isla la primera parada será en Las Palmas de Gran Canaria . Aquí se encuentra el espectacular Acuario Poema del Mar . Fue inaugurado en 2017 con 12.500 m².

Tiene unas instalaciones muy modernas en las que habitan más de 350 especies en 35 ecosistemas. Su acuario estrella tiene un cristal cubo que está considerado como el más grande del mundo. Una visita imprescindible que te encantará.

2. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

Una vez terminada la visita recorreremos el centro histórico de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, incluyendo los siguientes lugares:

La excursión  de Gran Canaria a Tenerife comienza saliendo de las zonas turísticas del sur de la isla en dirección norte hacia Las Palmas de Gran Canaria y más tarde hacia el Puerto de Agaete, donde, sobre las 8:00 saldrá el barco que nos llevará hasta  el muelle de Santa Cruz de Tenerife. 

Sobre las 18:00 un catamarán de las lineas Freed Olsen te llevará de regreso a Agaete, en Gran Canaria, para llevarte posteriormente de regreso a tu hotel. Recomendaciones.

¿A partir de qué edad se puede hacer la excursión? Pueden ir bebes y niños acompañados de adultos. Los bebes hasta 24 meses no pagan ni ocupan plaza.

P&O Cruises excursions: Best for…Nature

In Lanzarote, a must-see sight on your Canary Islands excursions is the Fire Mountains at Timanfaya National Park. Like something out of Lord of the Rings, these peaks were created during a series of volcanic eruptions between 1730 and 1736, irrevocably changing Lanzarote’s landscape and covering almost a quarter of the island in thick lava and ash.

Today you can enjoy the incredible landscape and witness the volcanic activity first-hand, although you’d be forgiven for thinking you’d accidentally been transported to Mars due to the park’s red and black terrain, volcanoes and fields of virgin lava. Just don’t go dropping any precious jewellery in…

You can even sample food cooked using the heat of the volcano in the El Diablo restaurant, designed by Spanish architect and artist César Manrique. Talk about putting fire in your belly!

La Palma is one of the smallest Canary Islands but it’s pretty mighty when it comes to natural wonders. On P&O Cruises’ Volcanic Cave Exploration experiences, travellers can delve into a hidden subterranean world of caves and volcanic terrain, all formed by lava flow from San Juan volcano after its last eruption in 1949.

As for other P&O Cruises excursions in La Palma, visitors can check out the National Park of La Caldera de Taburiente – the number one tourist attraction on the little island – which is blanketed in dense Canarian pines and crisscrossed by deep ravines.

The park is also home to a colourful waterfall; the magical ‘Cascadade Colores’ features green hues from the algae and mosses as well as orange and yellow tones from the iron in the ravine’s water, which has one of the highest concentrations of the metal in La Palma. P&O Cruises excursions: Best for…Adventure

Adventure is easy to come by in the Canary Islands, but it doesn’t always have to involve hard work (hooray!). In both Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, P&O Cruises shore experiences offer 4×4 adventures so jet-setters can feel the thrill of speed while admiring lesser-seen areas of the islands from a comfortable seat.

In Fuerteventura, you’ll explore tranquil villages, farmland and the volcanic region of the island on a four-hour excursion, and in Lanzarote you’ll be treated to a three-and-a-quarter-hour tour of the island’s south, taking in natural wonders, a winery and local villages.

Wine production in the Canaries dates back to the mid-15th century – it’s even mentioned frequently in Shakespeare’s plays! Farmers had to adapt after the volcanic eruptions in the 18th century and make the most of the fresh layers of lava and volcanic ash known as picon, so they planted the vines underneath this black soil in order for moisture to be locked in and protect the hardy vines (you’re welcome if this ever comes up in a pub quiz).

Another influencing factor on the island’s unique wines? Lanzarote escaped the phylloxera plague which destroyed almost all of Europe’s vineyards in the 19th century which means local vines are ungrafted and can live longer (hoorah!).

These days, the island produces white, rosé and red wines, with the volcanic Malvasía grape variety standing out the most thanks to its balance and quality. Yup, you’ll definitely want to sample some on your Canary Islands excursions (and nope, no judgment if any bottles you buy are entirely for you).

With P&O Cruises excursions over in Tenerife, passengers can visit the summit of Mount Teide by cable car (no sweating required). Mount Teide, set in Teide National Park, is Spain’s highest volcano and offers a thrilling and otherworldly landscape of craters and lava flows.

The cable car enables visitors to soar above this magnificent array of unique colours and shapes and ascend to the top in just eight minutes – although you’ll have to hike the final part via one of three routes if you want to get to the highest peak.

From the summit you can even spot the nearby islands of La Gomera, El Hierro, La Palma and Gran Canaria on a clear day as well as the great caldera of Las Cañadas del Teide.

Yes, Canary Islands experiences offer incredible experiences on terra firma but there’s plenty to be enjoyed out on (or rather in) the water.

P&O Cruises excursions: Best for…Leisure

BRITS could face a daily 'tourist tax' to visit the Canary Islands after anti-tourist protestors demanded a freeze on holidaymakers.

The Canary Islands president spoke out about a daily charge as tens of thousands of angry residents took to the streets to rage against the industry .

President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, has warned that a daily cost for visitors could be on the table.

Politicians are under pressure following this weekend's marches as residents are demanding restrictions on the lucrative tourism industry.

An angry anti-tourist movement has been gaining moment throughout the popular holiday hotspot islands in recent months.

Bitter graffiti has even popped up telling Brits to "go home" and reading "your paradise, our misery" .

While not included in current plans, Clavijo said the government is willing to look at suggestions of a three euro per night charge.

He said last Friday: "It is true that the ecotax is not included in the government program, but it is also true that we are willing to discuss it; the government will always engage in dialogue."

Tourists visiting the equally popular Balearic islands - including Majorca, Minorca and Ibiza - already pay between one and four euro per day if over 16.

Tenerife particularly has gone to bat against sun-seeking  Brits who have called hotels on the island out of fear they may not be safe on their upcoming holidays .

And unofficial signs reading "closed to tourists" have been plastered around beaches to keep visitors out .

Residents of the sun-soaked destination have said they are "fed-up" of "low quality"  Brit tourists who only come for the cheap beer, burgers and sunbathing .

Yesterday around 20,000 people filled a square in Tenerife capital Santa Cruz brandishing banners including some that read “You enjoy we suffer” in English.

Blowing horns and waving flags, they held banners that read: "People live here" and "We don't want to see our island die".

The marches were organised across Tenerife, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Madrid and Malaga under the slogan "The Canary Islands have a limit.”

Marchers are demanding authorities axe major tourism projects - including one for a five-star hotel in Tenerife.

They blame environmental issues, traffic problems and the housing crisis on mass tourism on the islands.

Other demands from the government include the protection of natural spaces, a tourist tax and better working conditions for hotel cleaners, who joined the protest in Santa Cruz as they insisted to local press: “We are not slaves.”

Organisers claim the march hit up to 50,000 participators yesterday.

Some British holidaymakers have shown their support for the issues raised by the islanders but others have accused them of biting the hand that feeds them.

One Brit, Ellie Taylor, told The Sun : "Half the restaurants would not be open if it wasn’t for us.”

Another disgruntled sun-seeker has put it more simply, scrawling beside some of the graffiti: “F*** off.

"We pay your wages!”

And not all officials in the island are on board with the raging anti-tourist sentiment.

Tourism minister Jessica de Leon urged British holidaymakers not to cancel their holidays ahead of yesterday's demos.

And Jorge Marichal, a hotel chain boss in Tenerife, revealed that  Brits were ringing up out of fear they would not be safe on their holidays to the island .

He said: "One of the problems I am facing is that clients are beginning to call and ask what’s happening here and whether it’s safe."

While the hotel owner said he understands the pain of local people, he added that being "anti-tourist" is not the way to go in.

President Clavijo has expressed his own concerns at the movement already, begging holidaymakers to keep coming.

La Policía Canaria suma desde este lunes 79 nuevos agentes que comienzan su periodo de prácticas como funcionarios en el cuerpo durante un tiempo aproximado de cuatro meses, 23 agentes en Gran Canaria y 56 en Tenerife .

La mayoría de estos policías se unirán al Grupo de Seguridad y Atención Ciudadana y estarán tutorizados durante este periodo por agentes especializados y veteranos , según ha señalado el director general de Seguridad del Gobierno canario , David del Pino, en un comunicado remitido por la Consejería de Presidencia, Administraciones Públicas , Justicia y Seguridad regional.

Del Pino ha destacado la importancia de reforzar este grupo porque es el que actúa con más proximidad a la sociedad, velando por la seguridad de los canarios.

La distribución se ha acordado según su procedencia y mediante un escalafón que ha tenido en cuenta sus calificaciones, tanto en la oposición como en el curso académico que han llevado a cabo en la Academia Canaria de Seguridad.

Durante la jornada de este lunes los agentes en prácticas han conocido su base, han sido presentados ante su mando y ya cuentan con su permiso de armas, vestuario o taquilla personalizada para llevar a cabo este nuevo periodo en el Cuerpo General de la Policía Canaria.

Lanzarote se posiciona como el aeropuerto más impuntual de esta primera parte del año en España . Casi 5.000 vuelos despegaron de sus pistas, trasladando a más de 650.000 pasajeros a sus destinos. Sin embargo, solo el 72,3% de ellos llegaron puntuales, lo que supuso que más de 180.000 personas sufrieran interrupciones en sus vuelos.

En el caso de Gran Canaria, fueron 8.000 vuelos y más de 1 millón de pasajeros los que partieron de este aeropuerto. De ellos, casi el 75% lo hicieron en hora.

Un poco mejor fue el funcionamiento del aeropuerto de Tenerife Sur , aunque no le ha servido para salir del ranking de los peores aeropuertos de España en este periodo. De los más de 8.000 vuelos -y 1,1 millones de pasajeros- que despegaron del aeropuerto tinerfeño, el 76,5% empezaron su viaje a la hora establecida.
