Ghost has revealed details of its upcoming RE-IMPERATOUR U.S.A. 2023 summer tour with special guest Amon Amarth. Produced by Live Nation and FPC Live, the 27-date tour kicks off on Wednesday, August 2nd in Concord, CA at Concord Pavilion, with stops in Salt Lake City, Chicago, Cincinnati, Austin and more before wrapping up with the band’s Monday, September 11th return to the Kia Forum in Los Angeles.

Ghost continues to elevate and reaffirm its status as one of the world’s most esteemed and celebrated creative forces. Accumulating well over a billion streams, the GRAMMY-winning Swedish theatrical rock band continues to bring the  “euphoric spectacle”  (ROLLING STONE) of its live shows to ever-growing and increasingly impassioned crowds, headlining arena tours including sold out shows from The Forum in Los Angeles and Barclays Center in New York to London’s O2 Arena and Stockholm’s Avicii Arena. In March 2022, THE LOS ANGELES TIMES reported in a Calendar cover story that Ghost had  “conquered metal and the charts”  when its fifth album  IMPERA  debuted at #1 in a sweep of the U.S. album charts, entering the BILLBOARD 200 at #2 and bowing at #1 in the band’s native Sweden as well as Germany and Finland, while cracking the top 5 in the UK (#2), Netherlands (#2), Belgium (#2), Canada (#3), Australia (#3), France (#5), Ireland (#5), and more. Produced by Klas Åhlund and mixed by Andy Wallace — and featuring “Spillways”—hailed as a  “sweetly constructed rock tune”  by THE NEW YORK TIMES, the GRAMMY-nominated “Call Me Little Sunshine,” and Active Rock #1 radio single “Hunter’s Moon” —  IMPERA  finds Ghost transported centuries forward from the Black Plague era of its previous album, 2018 Best Rock Album GRAMMY nominee  Prequelle —or as ROLLING STONE put it,  “Ghost predicted the pandemic, Now the metal band is foretelling the fall of empires.” The result is the most ambitious and lyrically incisive entry in the Ghost canon: Over the course of  IMPERA’ s 12-song cycle, empires rise and fall, would-be messiahs ply their hype (financial and spiritual alike), prophecies are foretold as the skies fill with celestial bodies divine and man-made… All in all, the most current and topical Ghost subject matter to date is set against a hypnotic and darkly colorful melodic backdrop making  IMPERA  a listen like no other — yet unmistakably, quintessentially Ghost.

TICKETS:  Tickets will be available starting with a Citi cardmember presale (details below) and Artist presale on Tuesday, February 14th. Additional presales will be available throughout the week before the general on sale starting Friday, February 17th at 10am local time on  Ticketmaster.com .

Ghost Will Haunt U.S. Amphitheaters on a Summer Tour

Papa Emeritus IV is coming to an amphitheater near you. Ghost , the Swedish hard-rock band led by the man of a thousand faces, Tobias Forge, has announced a U.S. summer tour .

Titled the Re-Imperatour U.S.A. 2023, the trek begins August 2nd in Concord, California, and plays 27 dates, wrapping up September 11th in Los Angeles. Along the way, the tour hits cities like Chicago, Milwaukee, Tampa, Austin, and Phoenix. Fellow Swedish metalheads Amon Amarth open all dates except the L.A. closer.

Ghost released their latest album, Impera , last year, a record that rails against bloated nations, empty leaders, and the glorification of stupidity. “We now have mechanisms within our own Western empire who are actively trying to, and to some degree have, created this time machine where we’re regressing,” Forge told Rolling Stone . “We’re flattening the earth. We’re submitting to stupidity, which is fucking unbelievable.”

They also released a new version of the Impera track “Spillways” featuring Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott.

Ghost performing at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas

Ghost | Texas Review | Ralph Arvesen

Not once disappointed. Seen them 5 times upcoming will be the 6th and I have never once been disappointed. Masterful! Saw them last winter and their show was Amazing! Great crowd, great energy, great sound, loud and crystal clear, one of my favorite concerts! Amazing music and highly entertaining. The best concert I've ever been to, Ghost absolutely controls the stage! Great interaction with the crowd, all the music played was on-point. Definitely seeing Ghost live again and again! Ghost, Mastodon, and Spirit Box were all awesome! All 3 bands performed fantastically. I can't wait to see Ghost the next time around. Amazing! So much fun! I had a blast and everyone there was so awesome and nice. It was my second time seeing Ghost. Didn’t think they could be better than the first time but, they definitely were! We still had an amazing time and will never miss another opportunity to see Ghost again. So freaking awesome!!! My first time seeing Ghost live and it fulfilled all of my expectations. A great setlist, fantastic stage show with great pyros, some funny tongue-in-cheek moments as well hearing their music with a heavier sound as compared to the records. I'm a veteran of almost 40 years of seeing metal bands live, my first gig was Ozzy in 1983, and Ghost are close to the top of my list. If you like metal, catchy songs and want to be entertained from start to finish go and see Ghost live.

THE EXPERIENCES YOU'VE HEARD ABOUT

Preview the most haunted locations in austin, the driskill.

If you’re too afraid to stay in this iconic hotel but still want to check out its 150-year history and stunning architecture, we’ve got you covered.

Since its establishment in 1886, The Driskill has been a hotspot for touring musicians, oil barons, and other glamorous travelers. With grandiose decor that lives up to the saying that “everything’s bigger in Texas,” it’s easy to see the appeal.

Museum of the Weird

We weren’t lying when we said Austin was proud of its weirdness. Located in the heart of downtown and just a few blocks from the “Old Austin” district, this museum boasts an array of spectacles reminiscent of the city’s long history and fascinating contemporary culture alike.

When examining its many curios and oddities, you’ll feel as though you’ve stepped back in time to the era of Barnum and Bailey.

Paramount Theater

Since Austin’s early days, one of its most prized cultural treasures has been its thriving music scene. The city’s reputation as a musical hub is due primarily to the landmark Paramount Theater.

Originally built in 1915 to provide a space for the Vaudeville craze, all of the most famous (and most cursed) musical acts have passed through the Paramount since. You can feel the history when you waltz through its Art Deco halls, too.

Welcome to Austin Ghosts

A seemingly light-hearted city built on the back of tragedy, murder, and revenge.

The “City of the Violet Crown” is famous for its vibrant and eclectic atmosphere. One that attracts people by the thousands, each looking for that old-town America idealization. However, this city that protects the small, unique, and local colors from being overrun is a city that preserves its own spirits as well as a gruesome past that welcomes the restless spirits of its dead.

Over the years, the city has seen a growth in population and there are some that have never left centuries after shedding their mortal remains. The liveliness of Austin is part of its appeal but it’s what masks the tragedy and anguish that attract the dead of the past to the present and the land of the living. Intertwined with its reputation for the strange is an underworld of wandering souls and woeful spirits.

Discover out how the area’s past, present, and apparitions help this Travis Country enclave maintain its unique, often otherworldly mystique. Let the haunted history of Texas’ most outlandish city uncoil itself before you and uncover why the stories of the restless dead are just as outrageous as the city itself. Learn of the unforeseen tragedies, untimely deaths, vicious murders, and broken dreams that make up the foundation of Texas’ state capitol.

WHAT WILL I SEE?

An experience laced with stories of pain and violence at austin’s most haunted historic buildings.

Experience the city in a way unlike any other, with a true ghost tour as authentic as Austin itself and one that will sweep you into the undercurrent of the bizarre. This gripping excursion into the past will introduce you to some of the city’s most harrowing tales of revenge, despair, and untimely ends. From historic landmarks to the unlikeliest of buildings, you’ll be taken to the spots that residents who’ve long been dead still call home.

Prime examples are the haunted Austin State Capitol and the haunted Handlebar pub. Both are featured stops on the Austin Ghosts tour where you will:

  • Explore the original location of the first Texas State Capitol buildings, which also happens to be the hub of a menacing tale that haunts the area to this day. Following a drunken night, a man named Nathan Elgin brutally murdered a woman and continued his crime spree after his death. The agonizing sounds of the dead women’s screams can still be heard late at night, and their deaths are considered the birth of America’s first serial killings.
  • Discover the eerie origins of The Handlebar, the city’s only mustache-themed bar that happened to be a funeral parlor a century prior and receives visitors from all over, including the beyond. Unearth the tragic tale of a former employee whose apparition is forever trapped at the Texas State Capitol building.

The “Awesome”, or the Ozzie as some folks nicknamed the area, is filled to the rafters with odd tales, nasty surprises, and head-scraping hauntings. This unique ghost tour of Austin aims to start you into that whirlwind of strangeness and take you on a rollercoaster ride you’ll never forget:

  • Visit the nooks of this eerie enclave and unearth a historical adventure filled with tragedies, atypical stories, and outlandish true tales of woes, murders, and just plain offbeat reveries.
  • Hear fact-based stories that created the city you now see before you. Stories of such specters as Jack of the Omni Hotel, Samantha at The Driskill, Sidney Porter, and Walter Norris Jr. at the Paramount Theater – and dozens more.

Each of its historic sites reeks of some outlandish tale or unusual occurrence — many of them with more than a dash of the dark, disturbing, and the dead.   Visit haunted hotels, historic buildings, and theaters where apparitions love to make surprise appearances.

Built in 1915, on the same land that once stood Sam Houston’s war office, The Paramount Theater has managed to withstand the test of time through determined owners… and a deal made with the devil. Today, the venue serves as a live theater/movie cinema that is regularly frequented by tourists, Austinites, and the supernatural, including “The Man With the Cigar”, “The Lady in White”, and even a former employee.

WHY IS AUSTIN HAUNTED?

True tales of things stranger than fiction.

Before Austin gained notoriety for its diverse cultural jamboree, it was an up-and-coming Texas town with a dark history that dates back to the late Pleistocene Era. To the massacres of the Clovis Culture of around 9200 BC to Gault Sites caught midway between Georgetown and Fort Hood. Before settlers arrived from Europe, Austin was a land mired in constant tribal war. The Tonkawa tribe fought off raiding Comanches and Apaches in tooth-and-nail skirmishes that left areas utterly desolate and drenched in native blood.

Maybe those blood sacrifices served to pique something’s hunger and all of those deaths were further enhanced by the desperate nature of most Texan towns after the Civil War. Full of outlaws, hoodlums, vagrants, and gun-slingers with a “shoot first, ask questions later” mentality, the notorious historical cowboys and criminals of The Lone Star State christened the land with blood and violence that might have attracted more mayhem, more otherworldly specters, and more insanity than even the wildest of Texas towns.

Or maybe, when a city proclaims to be the “weirdest city in the states,” it does its best to honor that promise and opens the door for the unexplained and authentic accounts of real hauntings that are stranger than fiction.

Wraiths of the Weird, Wild, and Wacky Underworld Are Dancing to the Devil’s Tune

Underneath its wild veneer, behind its unofficial city slogan as “the live music Capital of the world,”   and under the neon glow of “Silicon Hill” hides the horrific and the terrifying past of Austin that seemed to attract the powerful, the greedy, and the ambitious whose quest for success trampled countless victims over the last few centuries as the battle for Texas between the North and South raged on.

From the Mexican invasion in 1842 to disputes between Mexican soldiers and Texas cowboys to the destruction in the wake of the Civil War, Austin was at the center of development and disaster.   After the flood of 1900 destroyed the bridge over the Colorado River, the spirits of Austin’s bloody past stayed in step with the development of the city and the restless souls of its victims became a part of its population and foundation, waiting to torment local residents and prospectors alike.

Hidden in the shades of some of its most notable companies– Facebook, IBM, Oracle, Tesla, Intel, Google, Amazon, etc, – the ghosts of the past became an inseparable part of its present and future.

Take a ghost tour in 21st century Austin and despite being amongst eclectic crowds and continuously raging live music, experience a real-life encounter with the ghosts of Austin and you’ll realize the phantoms that plague this one-of-a-kind Texas city dance to their own creepy soundtrack and are anything but welcoming, even to the weird and wild.

Austin’s music festivals, its interactive media festivals, and its huge student body – Austin has the largest university in the US with over 50,000 students – serve to divert attention from its otherworldly, and ludicrous nature. It’s a city of oddballs, of the far-out, the freakish, the outré, and the offbeat.

WHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT THE AUSTIN GHOSTS TOUR?

Learn firsthand what gives austin its light, and its darkness.

Free and fun-loving are some of the first words that come to mind at the mere mention of the city of Austin. The fact is though, it didn’t always emit that same vibe and for a time, “fun-loving” wasn’t exactly the best way to describe it. While the city has undergone quite a transformation, the past still makes itself present in the form of strange occurrences, unexplained sounds, and the occasional apparition.

What makes these haunting tales so fantastic is their locations. From popular hotels to historical monuments and even the state capitol, there are various places in Austin where there’s more than meets the eye. Experience for yourself what gives this city its light, and why it can’t escape its darkness.

A city with a colorful personality where the people and the surroundings aren’t the only things that give the place its intrigue.

See a Different, Darker Side of a Historic Destination

Come with expert local guides and travel through scorching streets, and stand under vintage buildings that have seen the rise and fall of the wild west. You will encounter all manner of tales, hear, and experience something otherworldly, and unforgettable. Encounter the wraiths and ghosts and the restless dead that still call Austin their home.

No two stops are the same. From revenge-filled tales to off-the-walls interludes that boggle the mind. Get ready for some nightmare fuel, and for some sleepless nights.

The Experiences You've Heard About

Austin Ghosts

Join Austin Ghosts on a wild adventure full of terrifying history and authentic accounts of the city's tragic past that birthed frightening and unusual spirits deep in the heart of Texas.

The Driskill Hotel

Austin is home to one of the largest colonies of bats urban America, over 1.5 million Mexican Free-tail bats live under the Congress Avenue bridge that goes over Lady Bird Lake. Every evening, just after dusk from March to November you can see the entire colony fly free to scour the city for insects, it is a terrifying and beautiful sight.

This city has a unique way of encouraging eccentric behavior with its infamous element of the weird, which has led to an abundance of places you just can’t find anywhere else. On our ghost tour, you will visit haunted locations such as The Cathedral of Junk, the Hope Outdoor Gallery, and the Museum of the Weird, among oddball restaurants and vintage shops.

People travel far and wide to get a taste of Austin’s unique spirit. What they don’t typically realize is just how haunted Austin is.

The history of the capital of Texas offers shocking stories of forbidden lovers, heartbreaking suicides, brutal murders, and freak accidents. Some of the ghosts you will encounter have playful and harmless presences, but others are quite wicked and have committed some horrific crimes in their lifetimes. Some are the result of people taking their own lives. Our tour tracks down the tragic dual suicides at the elegant Driskill Hotel, both brides, both in a single room, chose to end their lives on their honeymoons. It is remarkable because it happened on the very same date, twenty years apart. A coincidence or evidence of something darker at work?

The Dark Side of Bat City

At Austin Ghosts, we strive to provide you with accurate, yet chilling accounts of Austin’s haunted history. On our ghost tour, you’ll not only visit the most haunted places in town but hear about the history that lives on within them.

Keep your cameras ready because some pretty spooky images have been captured on some previous tours. If you’re lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of the suicide brides roaming around the Driskill or witness the legendary Man with the Cigar thoughtfully pacing around at the Paramount Theatre.

This beautiful theatre resides on the same spot as Sam Houston’s war office. The legendary leader of the Texas Revolution and first congressman from Texas at the US Senate had his office here, and a freestanding wall has been preserved. It is by this wall that his pacing ghost is often glimpsed from outside. Rumor has it the fleabag theatre was restored in the 60s when the owner made a deal with the devil. The Devil turned out to be a not so silent shareholder!

Join us to hear the rest of these true stories that have been thoroughly fact-checked and researched. Tours start just after the eerie purple-tinged sunset has concluded its daily show. That’s when the true tales start, and you can hear the finest ghost stories West of the Mississippi.

With so many tours and activities to choose from Austin, how do you choose which ones to book?

You need a crash course in Austin’s history

Austin has crammed a lot into a short period of time, our tour covers each period of history, with true tales of history both ancient and modern.

Each tale of haunting springs from a real slice of life in Austin’s colorful past, each tale of real people helps you remember the history of this great city, because the ghost tales bring the past to life and stick in your memory. A Story is after all ten times more memorable than a statistic.

Standing on the very sites of some of the crucial moments of Austin’s history you will absorb these stories into your soul like the city is imprinted on the spirits who roam the same streets today. Like Austin’s great Capitol building . The highest building in the early city’s history and recently renovated with a state-of-the-art visitor’s center. It also has a haunted giftshop. If the stories we relate on the tour are true, do your shopping there early in the day, it can get a bit hairy around closing time.

The first capitol building was a temporary affair, when Texas voted to move the capital to San Antonio the whole Texas legislature arrived by ox cart in October 1893. They set about building a city from the village in the wilderness that they found. It’s an insightful story and helps explain the spirit of the place. Join the tour for the details!

When they arrived here in 1893 there was no dam on the Colorado River for instance and still plenty of signs of the original Native American occupants. For hundreds of years, Native Americans wandered the fertile valley and gentle hills that Austin sits upon. With their complex rituals, beliefs, and religions these ancient civilizations left an imprint on the ground that has not been easy to erase, goodness knows the later European settlers tried. We’ll show you the signs and spirits that still remain today.

Come and dive into the true tales of Austin’s history and the remarkable, memorable stories of today’s hauntings.

You want something the whole family can do in Austin

Even though our tours are full of stories of the dead haunting those who walk the streets today, we work hard to make the tour family-friendly.

We encourage families with children to join the tour, and it is fully accessible. Our professional guides are adaptable and knowledgeable locals full of stories and trivia about the streets our tours navigate. Your capable guides will adjust the content according to the group, we want to thirl and entertain, we don’t want anyone losing sleep.

Perhaps you are on a date and might consider a ghost tour a more memorable post date activity than a stroll in the park after a lovely dinner at one of Austin’s many amazing restaurants. Austin Ghosts has been a part of many blossoming romances and would welcome anyone and a current or future significant other!

You are a Non-Believer, testing the water of the supernatural

Believing in ghosts requires a certain frame of mind, one that children, animals, and some adults possess. It opens them up to the possibility of thinner boundaries between this world and the next than mere science tells us can be currently proven. And when has science been wrong? Why several hundred times. That’s a part of the beauty of science. Does Sun no longer seem to be revolving around the Earth? Well adopt a new theory and move on.  Hollow Earth theory? We no longer think the earth has holes at the top and bottom that lead to an inner world of seas and islands. A neat experiment in Scotland determined the density of Earth and laid that one to rest for good.

We may one day discover the explanation for the thousands of ghost sightings. Until that day, we simply ask that you be open to the possibility that we don’t know everything yet.

If you are not one who is open to the supernatural, well done for even considering a ghost tour of Downtown Austin. Even if at the end your hour-long standard tour, you decide not to take the 30-minute extension and see more of the amazing city of Austin’s sights in the eerie dark you will have heard some fascinating stories, learned about the origins of the author of the O. Henry stories. How he was wrongfully accused of embezzlement and skipped bail the day of his trial. He was a local of Austin and features at several of the locations on the tour. Austin Ghosts won’t try and convince you the afterlife is real, we simply lay out the evidence, the accounts we have researched and let you make up your mind.

In Austin and Not Sure of What to Do?

Austin has many ways to entertaining its citizens and visitors, it really comes alive at night, but that time after the day is done, but before the town really revs up its nightlife is the perfect time to walk off dinner and learn something about the history of San Antonio and the ghosts who just can’t let go.

The route of our ghost tour in Austin skirts the main nightlife area of Austin, but the tour finishes within yards of a strip of amazing bars and restaurants where you can compare stories and wonder about the amazing tales you have just heard.

If your day is full in and around Austin may we suggest that a relaxing and entertaining ramble around just under a mile of the landmarks of Downtown Austin might be the perfect and thrilling end to your day? Join us on the Austin Ghosts tour to get the most out of your time in town.

Only got a night in Downtown Austin?

The tour starts right in the heart of Downtown Austin, and visits several historical locations full of the spookiest stories. All in, the Austin Ghosts tours take just over an hour, it leaves you with a snapshot of every significant era in the city’s rich and important history.

From the Ghost who stalks the Paramount Theatre , constantly seeking justice for the murder of her family in the early days of the Civil war, to modern ghouls who pace the corridors of the impressive downtown hotels. Austin Ghosts has something for everyone and drops you within walking distance of the Austin Convention Center, the train station, and easy transport to the airport.

Get an insider look at the Austin culture

The more eccentric residents of Austin make up a great proportion of the local ghosts; From the Irish joker who haunts the legendary Buffalo Billiards bar to the two ghosts who plague ‘Handlebar’, the only mustache themed adult bar in Austin .

Austin is home to many colorful characters that refuse to leave this plane for the next. A historical shortage of burial spots led a few mourning families in Austin’s history to bury loved ones in the walls and in the case of the Museum of the Weird in one of the concrete columns. Most of the bodies were reinterred, including the column corpse, when a good spot had been found on the edge of the city limits for a communal cemetery, but the ghost of this body from the column remains in this very strange place. Burying people in columns somehow that typifies the Austin Spirit.

Be a tourist in your backyard

We see many Austinites on our tours, people who have lived here their whole lives have not heard the stories we tell. Austin Ghosts is a great way to dive deeper into the dark past of your home town. Perhaps you are taking a staycation, checking into a downtown hotel for a few nights and doing things you don’t normally get to do.

Maybe you’ll be able to add some local gossip or historical tidbits to the tour group, interaction is welcome and it’s a great way to make your group special. We have memorable stories that you will be able to share for years to come with your visitors from out of town.

So, become a tourist in your own town for a night, enjoy a meal somewhere new, and mix things up a bit! Seeing your city in a new light is something we can defiantly help you do.

The Rolling Stones Get Support: Who's Opening for the Hackney Diamonds Tour?

The Rolling Stones are set to launch their North American 2024 Hackney Diamonds Tour this Sunday, April 28 at NRG Stadium in Austin, Texas. For the show opener, the band will have with hometown support from blues guitarist-singer and Grammy winner Gary Clark Jr. But for the rest of the tour, the openers range from Grammy Best New Artist nominees the War and Treaty to L.A. sensations the Linda Lindas.

With 19 shows in 16 cities on the docket, let's look at a cross-section of the artists that will be opening up for, as they once said, "The Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World."

The Pretty Reckless : Fronted by singer-guitarist Taylor Momsen, the hard rock New York City foursome have been together since 2009. Their latest album, the acoustic-covers-reimagined Other Worlds, was released in November 2022 and they're currently in the studio readying new material. (5/11 – Las Vegas, NV at Allegiant Stadium)

Joe Bonamassa : American blues rock guitarist Bonamassa has been at the forefront of that genre's revitalization since the late 1980s. As a prodigy, he was mentored by the late country rockabilly guitarist Danny Gatton. He opened for B.B. King and by age 18 was in a group called Bloodline with the sons of Miles Davis, Robby Krieger and Berry Oakley. His most recent work can be heard on Mark Knopfler's "Going Home: Theme of the Local Hero" in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust. (5/15 – Seattle, WA at Lumen Field)

The Red Clay Strays : The Mobile, Alabama band's debut album Moment of Truth was released in 2022, and the group has been flying ever since. One can see and hear how this quintet – Brandon Coleman, Drew Nix, Zach Rishel, Andrew Bishop and John Hall – could slot in perfectly on a bill with the Stones, with their blend of rave-up Southern rock mixed with some throwback Muscle Shoals soul. (5/30 – Foxboro, MA @ Gillette Stadium)

Bettye LaVette : A bonafide legend, the 78-year-old LaVette has sung and vocalized and interpreted with just about everyone in the music industry over the past six decades. Betty Jo Haskins, born in Muskegon, Michigan and raised in Detroit, released her first single "My Man – He’s a Loving Man," in the fall of 1962. But her career, while not chart-topping, had a resurgence in the 2000s. Her last release was the Grammy-nominated 2023 LaVette! , a production with the Rolling Stones drummer Steve Jordan. (6/27 – Chicago, IL at Soldier Field)

The complete list of dates are below, and the Stones will also be playing the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on May 2. There have been no official announcements on when or if the Stones will tour the UK and Europe.
