Get to Know Carnival Miracle

Carnival Miracle is a ship you may not believe when you see... but definitely don't miss seeing it! When we say that Carnival Miracle takes you to another world, we mean that in every sense. Not only does this ship visit stunning destinations, but features incredible onboard spaces inspired by elements of fantasy. Escape from reality as you take in a show at the Phantom Lounge or a dance at Dr. Frankenstein's Lab. To lose yourself in a song, find your way to Sam's Piano Bar. Hungry? You'll find great food all over the place, from the casual fare of Horatio's to the artful eats of the Bacchus and Ariadne dining rooms... not to mention the world-class cuts at Nick & Nora's Steakhouse. At Alchemy Bar ® we make drinks into art, while the laid-back RedFrog Pub ™ has "Caribbean cool" down to a science. And up in SkyBox ™ Sports Bar, we've combined luxury-box comfort with the up-close view from the 50-yard line. Outdoors there's fun to be had, whether you're down for watersliding or up for simply sunning — Carnival WaterWorks ™ has you covered (in water, that is), and the Serenity Adult-Only Retreat ™ will get you relaxing in the sun or the shade, grown-up-style. No matter your age, don't forget: the sweetest way to cap off the day is with a treat from Cherry On Top ™ , our onboard candy-and-more store.

Long Beach Cruise Port: Tips, Attractions and Weather

The Long Beach cruise port is the embarkation point for many cruises to the Mexican Riviera and other destinations.

The cruise terminal, owned by Carnival Cruise Lines, is about 35 minutes south of Los Angeles International Airport and 20 minutes from Long Beach Airport, 4100 Donald Douglas Drive. Parking is available for about $20 a day.

We have learned after many cruises the benefits of spending some extra time in departure ports such as Long Beach to take advantage of everything the city has to offer. City planners have learned to make the areas around the cruise ports more attractive to keep visitors there longer (and spend more money there).

It’s just a matter of time and budget. Cruise planners with a little extra time and money can enjoy the best that Long Beach has to offer in only an extra day or two. It also avoids the stress of rushing between the airport and cruise terminal.

Long Beach Cruise Port Map

Cruise passengers who plan to spend at least one night before or after their cruise will find at least a dozen hotels within about a mile of the cruise terminal. Several line Queensway Bay within walking distance or a quick shuttle ride to the terminal at the Port of Long Beach. They are a good choice for visitors who don’t plan to spend much time in Long Beach.

Most of the others are across the water in the city. The hotels in the city have the best access to local attractions and free downtown shuttles. They are an ideal choice for anyone with extra time to explore the city.

Attractions and Shore Excursions

The cruise terminal is right next to the famous Queen Mary, the 1936 ocean liner which is now a hotel and spa with overnight room accommodations.

Anyone with more time to spare, especially a day or two, may want to start by visiting a visitor information center of the Long Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau. These information centers are scattered throughout the waterfront and downtown areas. The Bureau also has a concierge desk in the lobby of the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center, 301 E. Ocean Boulevard. It is about two miles north of the cruise terminal. The concierge desk has area brochures, maps and guides along with staff who can answer questions and offer advice.

Otherwise, anyone who has a half day available can walk or take a taxi to some nearby attractions.

The Harry Bridges Memorial Park is a half mile away. It is the site of occasional special events.

Aquarium of the Pacific, 100 Aquarium Way at Shoreline Aquatic Park, is more than one mile away for either energetic walkers or anyone with a car. It features more than 11,000 sea creatures in more than 50 exhibits.

Beach lovers will find a pair of decent beaches near the cruise port. Alamitos Beach is just beyond Shoreline Aquatic Park. The beach is also the home of the Long Beach Museum of Art. It runs into Junipero Beach, which is also known as Cherry Beach. It runs parallel to Bluff Park and Bixby Park.

Other major attractions require more travel time. One of the most famous in the world is Disneyland Park, which is 27 miles east of the cruise terminal.

Universal Studios Hollywood is a bit more challenging by car at 35 miles to the north.

Anyone who is not visiting Catalina Island as part of a cruise could take a one-hour ferry ride.

Transportation / Getting Around

Metro Link is a light rail transit system that goes from 7th Street to downtown Los Angeles. Long Beach Transit is an inexpensive bus, shuttle and water taxi service. Destinations such as Alamitos Bay and Belmont Shore are $1.25 for a one-way fare.

The Passport Shuttle is free throughout the downtown area. During the summer, visitors can take water taxis between Queen Mary and Alamitos Bay.

The average daytime temperature ranges from 68 degrees Fahrenheit or 20 Celsius in the winter to 84 Fahrenheit or 29 Celsius in the summer, according to the U.S. National Weather Service.

The area has distinct wet and dry seasons. It rains on average about two to four inches a month during the winter but less than an inch per month in the summer.

May is one of the best months of the year for low risk of rain and warm but not uncomfortable temperatures.

10 Things to do in Mahogany Bay: Roatan Cruise Port

T he island of Roatan is a small island off the coast of Honduras, and it’s home to Mahogany Bay Cruise Port. Boasting stunning beaches, lush jungles, and spectacular coral reefs, Mahogany Bay is known as one of the world’s most beautiful ports of call.

Visitors to Mahogany Bay can experience a variety of activities, from kayaking and snorkeling to exploring the nearby Mayan ruins.

There are also plenty of shopping and dining options nearby, including local souvenir shops, ice cream parlors, and restaurants serving up some of the freshest seafood around.

When you visit Mahogany Bay Cruise Port be sure to take a stroll down the picturesque Mahogany Boardwalk, with its scenic views of the Caribbean Sea and plenty of opportunities to take in all the sights and sounds.

Things to do at the Mahogany Bay Cruise Center

One of the reasons Roatan is such a popular destination for many cruise guests is that you can have a fun day without ever leaving the port area.

When your cruise ship arrives in the port of Roatan, the first thing you will see is the 20-acre welcome center. Here, you can shop for souvenirs, grab some food, or meet with your ship-sponsored Roatan cruise excursions.

1. Free Beach Day

If you are looking for a beach day, you can head to the beautiful Mahogany Bay Beach. This is a man-made beach, but offers a beautiful sandy bay, with white sand and decent snorkeling opportunities.

You can also play beach volleyball and enjoy water activities.

To get to the beach you have a free option and a paid option. The free option is walking along the nature trail to get to the beach.

Once there, you can take advantage of free lounge chairs and beach mats.

2. Ride a Magical Flying Chair

If you are looking for a fun way to get to the beach, be sure and upgrade to ride on a magical flying beach chair.

The Magical Flying Chair is a 10-minute ride that takes you 67 feet in the air above crystal-clear waters, over the treetops, and directly to the white sand beach.

The fee to ride the chair lift is $14 for adults, $8 for kids 4-12, and free for kids under 3. The fee allows a day pass with unlimited rides. Look for the pink building at the welcome center for lift tickets.

* You must be at least 32 inches tall to ride, and there is a 600-pound maximum weight per chair.

Once you are at Mahogany Beach you can relax with a massage.

If you would like to have a more intimate experience, there are 8 exclusive cabanas on a semi-private beach area. You can book these cabanas through the excursion department of your cruise line.

Things To Do From Mahogany Bay, Isla Roatan

If you are like me, the first thing you want to do when visiting a popular port of call is to get the heck away from the cruise terminal!

I love to book with local tour operators whenever possible to explore local restaurants, and local culture, help support the local economy, and really escape the crowds.

Luckily, Roatan is the perfect place to get out and explore! If you book an excursion that is not affiliated with your cruise line it is a good idea to check reviews and do your research.

I use Trip Advisor to check reviews. I also book with companies I trust such as Shore Excursion Group , and Viator .

See Roatan Shore Excursions Here

When you book an excursion in Roatan with one of the local tour companies you’ll need to exit the cruise center to meet up with them.

To do this, walk through the main shopping area and out the gate. You’ll take a short walk down a hill and see all of the tour guides waiting for you.

They are allowed to drop you off in the cruise center though, so after your excursion, you’ll be able to hop right back on your cruise ship or do a bit of shopping.

So, if you do get away from the port and want to explore Roatan, these are some of the best things to do!

3. Daniel Johnson’s Monkey and Sloth hangout

This is one of the best excursions I have ever done, not just on Roatan, but in any of our travels!

My kids still talk about it, and I’ve booked numerous clients on excursions here, and they all name it as their favorite cruise day too!

If the idea of snuggling with a cuddly sloth, and playing with cheeky monkeys named after Jersey Shore actors sounds fun, you can read about our experience and get more information on Daniel Johnson by reading this post .

4. Scuba Diving or Snorkeling

Crime and public safety | 3 california boys charged with assault after homeless man is beaten with poles and a tripod.

Author

Three Long Beach boys, including two teenagers, have been charged with beating a homeless man with tent poles and a tripod, authorities said Tuesday.

On Saturday, April 20, at around 6:30 p.m., Long Beach Police Department officers responded to the 100 block of Pacific Avenue for a report of an assault, according to LBPD spokeswoman Alyssa Baeza.

Officers found a man with non-life-threatening injuries who was treated by the Long Beach Fire Department.

An initial investigation found that the man was approached by a group of boys who got into a verbal fight with the man, before striking him with tent poles and a camera tripod. The boys also threw objects, which struck the man, Baeza said.

The boys ran away before authorities arrived, but police found and arrested them.

Each of the boys — a 15-year-old, a 14-year-old and a 12-year-old — was booked for assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit a crime. One of them, the 14-year-old, was booked for resisting arrest as well.

The identities of the suspects have not been made public, as they are juveniles.
