We are not currently accepting applications for the Holy Land IMMERSION program. Please join us in prayer for the people of Israel-Palestine. Read EM's response here.

Don't just be a tourist who checks religious sites off your Middle East bucket list—engage with history on a deeper level. See the places where Jesus walked and discover his heart for people who call the Holy Land home today. Live with families near Bethlehem and take several trips into Jerusalem , understanding the unique perspective of both Palestinians and Israelis.

Our staff will lead you and your team of young adults through a program designed to engage with Muslim, Jewish, and Christian neighbors, helping you better understand real life beyond what you see in the news. You'll take Arabic lessons, volunteer in refugee camps, do agricultural projects, tour Biblical sites, and meet with a wide range of religious leaders. Most importantly, we hope you come as a listener who is eager to learn and challenge your own faith.

Because of the sensitive nature of the region, this Holy Land mission trip is for experienced travelers, 21-30 years old, who are passionate about reconciliation.

IMMERSION FAQ

Joining the program.

What are the benefits of joining an IMMERSION program?

These experiences can be life-changing! IMMERSION participants gain valuable life experience, serving in communities around the world, traveling to new places, and immersing in local culture. Through these activities, team members start to see the world, their life, and faith in Jesus in a whole new way. Participants also grow personally—in maturity, relational and leadership skills, and the knowledge of who God created them to be in the world. It is an incredible chance to find clarity and purpose as they live and serve alongside a team of young adults from across the U.S. and build real, authentic relationships with people around the world.

How do I join an IMMERSION program?

Step 1: FILL OUT AN INTEREST FORM or APPLY NOW

Step 2: The IMMERSION staff will connect with you to set up an initial informational call to answer any questions you may have about the program. Once your application is complete, we set a video interview to get to know you and determine if the program is a good fit.

Step 3: You are invited to join the program! You accept your spot on the team by paying an initial deposit of $250 (or $500 for 9 and 10-month Gap Year programs). After joining the program, your personal IMMERSION contact will connect with you about fundraising, pre-trip details, and more.

What are the requirements for joining this program?

IMMERSION participants must be between the ages of 18-30 at the start of the program. Outside of the age requirement, IMMERSION is a program for young adults with a desire to grow in their faith in God and their relationship with Jesus. We look for people who can embrace a rugged lifestyle, respect cultural differences, build healthy relationships with teammates and locals, thrive away from home, and are in good physical, mental, and emotional health. We ask all team members to commit to approaching their program with the right posture and attitude, as outlined in our IMMERSION Standards of Conduct.

Finances & Fundraising

What does it cost to go on this IMMERSION program?

The upcoming 3-Month Holy Land program costs range from $7,700- $8,200. Most participants pay for their experiences with a combination of fundraising, personal funds, and financial help from parents or family.

What is included in the cost of the trip? Are there extra costs?

IMMERSION is meant to be as all-inclusive as possible, so you don't have to worry about any hidden fees or big, unexpected costs! Most essentials (airfare, food, housing, staffing, training) are covered—but team members do need to plan for a little extra for immunizations, travel to training and home from debrief, personal meals while traveling, or a new passport if you need one! We also recommend a small stash of spending money in case you need shampoo, snacks, or souvenirs along the way. But this amount is minimal and totally up to you. Experience Mission also requires all team members to travel with a Personal Emergency Fund—a debit or credit card with $1,000-$1,500 available and $300 of reserve cash in case they were to have a medical issue or reason to travel home unexpectedly. This amount is purely a precaution. Most team members do not spend any of their emergency funds while on the program.

What is Experience Mission's refund policy?

Once team members commit to a trip, we're counting on them. Due to the long-term logistics that are set in motion when team members join a team, we are not able to offer refunds for deposits or trip payments, but we do our best to be flexible and work with team members to transfer their funds to a different trip whenever possible. Check out the IMMERSION Refund Policy that applies to this trip.

What happens if an IMMERSION program is canceled?

If a trip is canceled by Experience Mission because of the minimum team size not being met, safety concerns in the community, natural disaster, or another issue, we will provide the team member with other options during the same timeframe and transfer any available funds to the new trip. If a team member cannot find a location that interests them during the same timeframe, they will be offered a credit to be used toward a future IMMERSION trip within 24 months of the original start date.

Does EM provide any help with fundraising?

Yes! If the idea of fundraising a large amount overwhelms you, we are here to help! Each team member is connected with an IMMERSION staff member who will help you develop a fundraising plan based on the extensive history of successful fundraising ideas from past participants. We've seen over and over again how God can provide or far exceed the amount people need to go.

EM provides helpful tools to support you in the process, including:

IMMERSION Fundraising Coaches to talk through your fundraising abilities and ideas, and provide a roadmap to follow.

EM's IMMERSION Fundraising Guide wIth creative ideas and resources to get you started!

IMMERSION Fundraising Profiles which you can customize to share your story and easily collect donations.

Can a team member get college credit for participating in the program?

We are happy to provide a letter to your academic advisor or sign off on paperwork for your professor. Every college and university has different requirements for obtaining course credit, so it is up to you to do the research and make sure the IMMERSION program fits your school's expectations. But it is possible! We've seen team members get approved for foreign language, internships, study abroad, independent studies, or elective credits.

About IMMERSION

What do team members do during an IMMERSION program?

Each IMMERSION program is different in the exact daily rhythms, but every day brings something new and gives participants the chance to be a picture of the love of Christ through everyday life moments. Most ministries we partner with during IMMERSION are relationally focused, but there may also be opportunities for hands-on work projects such as painting schools or helping with agricultural projects. Our hope is that each participant finds opportunities to serve whether they are, whether leading VBS with their teammates, tutoring at a local school, attending church, participating in a Bible study, working on a host family's farm, doing laundry in a river, going to the market, playing soccer with locals, carrying water from a spring, or preparing meals with their host parents.

What does an IMMERSION team look like?

Experience Mission's IMMERSION programs are 1, 3 or 6 months long or a combination of more than 1 program. Each 1-6 month "Term" is made up of 5-15 young adults (18-30 years old) from across the U.S. and beyond. IMMERSION teams become like a second family for participants, creating life-long friendships as you serve and grow (and learn to deal with conflict, forgiveness, and grace) together.

How does EM equip IMMERSION participants to succeed during the program?

Each IMMERSION term begins with 4 days of training, team building, and personal reflection in the US. EM's IMMERSION staff shares stories from the field, challenges team members to examine their faith in new ways, and helps teams start to learn how to build healthy cross-cultural relationships.

After traveling to their first community, teams engage in a short on-field orientation with EM's local staff or partners to learn more about local culture, safety, and the schedule for the weeks ahead. Local leaders are available throughout the trip to help navigate the complexities of a new community and understand the context of their experiences.

EM also equips each team member with a devotional journal that is part-personal reflection, part-group learning activities, to help teams learn and grow together throughout the duration of the program. All 3 and 6-Month IMMERSION programs end with a 2-day debrief back in the U.S. which provides a valuable reflection and re-entry time as participants begin to ask “What's next?” after IMMERSION. 1-month trips will have an in-country debrief to give you the maximum amount of time in your international location. There will also be a 2-hour "virtual debrief" the day after you come home to process with your team and talk about what comes next and how to jump back into normal life.

How does this program help participants grow spiritually?

We hope participants look back on their IMMERSION experience as a time of meaningful exploration and growth. In fact, we hope each person who goes is never the same after. We hope each team member's faith becomes more personal, deep, and bold as they seek to live their mission on the trip and return home. From personal experience, we know there is something incredibly powerful about leaving behind the familiar and serving others with your everyday lives.

What is the impact of IMMERSION? How do participants know they are part of something meaningful?

EM typically works alongside churches, missionaries, schools, or non-profits in each local community with the goal of cheering them on in their long-term work. Throughout the program, team members will have the opportunity to connect with a variety of local partners who already have a vision to reach out and support their community. Our hope is that IMMERSION program participants provide much-needed encouragement and support to our local partners in the work they are already doing. In this way, we honor and dignify our host communities and avoid bringing our own agenda or unintentionally hurting local communities. Learn more about EM's Approach to Healthy Service.

Do team members share the Gospel?

EM strives to share the message of Jesus in a way that is highly relational and respects each person's story and journey. Delivering this message of hope drives everything we do, but we think it is especially important to partner with local people who can continue the process of growth and encouragement to those considering Jesus anew or for the first time. Often, we have found the best moments to share faith don't happen in a scheduled program or impersonal public acts, but in the midst of a real, person-to-person conversation. These are the kinds of meaningful moments of mutual respect and trust we try to facilitate on the trip. If you would like to know more, check out How We Engage the Gospel.

Communication

How often will IMMERSION team members be able to communicate with home?

We encourage team members to pack their phone or other small, Wifi-enabled device. As a general rule, we typically tell team members to expect to have access to the internet every other week. However, it could be more or less often depending on the exact location. Team members should ask about this during the application and interview process in order to set good expectations for their specific trip.

What if team members have a personal emergency and need to talk with someone at home?

EM staff, team leaders, and local partners are there to support team members! If a participant has a personal emergency, they will be allowed to use the official EM phone with an international calling or data plan. In most locations, communication is fast and easy, but in some locations, it can be slow or very expensive to make a call back to the U.S. During your interview, ask our staff more about communication limitations or how we get in touch when there is an emergency.

What happens if there is an emergency at home and a team member's family can't communicate with a team member directly?

Many communities have WiFi or available cell service, depending on the device and plan a team member has purchased. If this is not an available communication channel, the Experience Mission office has a 24-hour line that is available to parents if they have an emergency at home and are unable to communicate with team members directly. In this case, our staff would help relay a message and support the team member in whatever way possible. 30 days before your trip, we will send assigned emergency contacts more information about how and when to use this line! We hope it gives them some peace of mind to know our staff is here to help if an emergency arises.

Will parents or family receive updates from EM throughout the trip?

In regards to travel, we encourage family members to go by the mantra that "no news is good news," and it is the responsibility of the team member to provide updates to family as they are able. Please know that in some locations their updates to you may not be immediate or frequent. The EM staff will be in communication with the team and inform you if there is an emergency, but otherwise, you will not receive official updates about delays, flight changes, arrival times, etc.

Can anyone visit team members while they serving on an IMMERSION program?

Over the years, we've seen how visits from family members in the middle of IMMERSION can create distractions (or extra homesickness) for both team members and teammates. Additionally, it can be a logistical challenge for families to arrange transportation or housing in remote communities, creating a burden for our partners or host families. For this reason, we ask parents and other family members to refrain from planning to visit team members during the trip unless Experience Mission staff has given special permission ahead of time.

Travel & Safety

Does EM provide a detailed packing list for each IMMERSION program?

Definitely! We help team members fit their entire lives inside a backpack. It can be one of the most freeing, humbling experiences to realize you can live with so little. Applicants can access a country-specific packing list after starting the application process.

Do I need a passport or visa?

Since you are traveling out of the country, you will need a passport! If a visa is needed for your trip, the EM staff will guide you through the process of applying for one after you join the team. If you don't have a passport yet, you will want to start applying for one now. The good news is, it will not expire for 10 years so you can plan lots of trips after IMMERSION!

When do team members get a detailed trip itinerary?

We provide team members with an itinerary, including all flight information, approximately one month before the start of each trip. Team members also receive a lot of details during pre-trip video calls or by interacting with teammates and our staff through online groups formed 3-4 months before the beginning of each trip.

How long has EM been working in IMMERSION communities? Does EM connect participants with trusted partners?

Depending on the specific location, EM has been working in a community anywhere from 1 to 15 years. We partner with local people who are often pastors, non-profit managers, missionaries, school teachers, or indigenous leaders. These local leaders work closely with our full-time staff and the IMMERSION team leader to identify host families, select ministry sites, place volunteers in classrooms, navigate cross-cultural barriers, and determine safety guidelines. We couldn't and wouldn't do ministry without our local partners!

How does EM choose host families?

Our local partners help us identify trusted host families in each community. Host families are eager to have team members in their homes, but they are usually just as nervous as you are! Remember that this is a cross-cultural experience for them, too. Typically, we divide team members into pairs for home stays and families are within a short distance of one another, giving participants the chance to see teammates around the community and serve together in a variety of ways.

What happens if there is an emergency—is there a hospital or clinic nearby?

If there is an emergency, EM staff members will support team members by helping them communicate with home and getting them to a safe location. Often, local clinics are a short distance from where team members are staying, however, large hospitals can often be several hours away by vehicle. Experience Mission requires all team members to travel with a Personal Emergency Fund—a debit or credit card with $1,000-$1,500 available and $300 of reserve cash in case they were to have a medical issue or reason to travel home unexpectedly. This amount may seem high, but it's purely a precaution. Most team members never touch their emergency fund while on the trip.

What precautions does EM take for international travelers?

EM registers all teams with STEP (Safe Traveler Enrollment Program) through the U.S. State Department. This allows our staff team to receive official travel alerts if there is an issue in the region including political protests, civil unrest, increased crime, weather alerts, natural disasters, terrorism, or specific threats for foreign travelers. You can read more about the precautions we take here: Traveling and Serving Internationally

Should I purchase Travelers Insurance?

Experience Mission requires all team members to travel with a Personal Emergency Fund—a debit or credit card with $1,000-$1,500 available and $300 of reserve cash in case they were to have a medical issue or reason to travel home unexpectedly. This amount may seem high, but it is purely a precaution. Most team members never spend a penny of their emergency fund while on the trip. Although travel insurance is not currently required, we highly recommend it because it may help you recoup some costs if you have an issue.

What are the vaccine requirements?

There are no required vaccines, however, there are several that are highly recommended for each country IMMERSION takes place in. Check the CDC quidelines for up-to-date recommendations.

What is the core mission of Experience Mission?

In an ever-changing world, EM exists to help people love God and love their neighbors. We believe God is at work in all people and cultures. We desire to be creative connectors across diverse and historical divides, participating in God's work of reconciliation, justice, affirmation, and hope.

  • EM connects people and communities on the margins to volunteers who desire to give their time, attention, and resources in order to be a picture of God's love and participate in God's work of reconciliation, justice, affirmation, and hope.
  • EM partners with local ministries and organizations who are already active within their community, allowing them to take the lead by supporting their vision for making a difference in the lives of people they live among on a daily basis.
  • EM encourages people of all walks of life to serve and love others with humility to give without expectations, to honor the dignity of all people, to seek to foster mutual respect and trust, and to deepen their understanding of both the beautiful diversity and the complex stories of communities and cultures they encounter.

→ EM'S MISSION & VALUES

What are EM trips all about?

We firmly believe the people we serve on mission trips are not our “mission project.&rdquo They are valuable creations of God with so much to offer. While it may be obvious that change needs to happen in certain communities, we believe change needs to happen in each of us as well. EM's approach to missions seeks to enter into these service and learning experiences in a healthy way. We believe there is a better way than forcing change or imposing our thinking, values, and beliefs on others.

→ EM'S APPROACH TO MISSIONS

What denomination is EM a part of?

Experience Mission is an inter-denominational Christian organization and is not directly affiliated with any specific denomination. Participants from all denominations and backgrounds are welcome on our service-learning mission trips. Our statement of faith, how we share the gospel, and how we engage people of different faiths can be found HERE .

"Every place we visited was breathtakingly beautiful, with stunning landscapes and rich historical and cultural heritage. We highly recommend visiting Israel to anyone who wants to experience an unforgettable journey. We had a life-changing time there and are already planning to return." Simon L. and Beatriz G. – Tour to Israel/Egypt/Jordan February 2024 "I had a wonderful time in Israel. I felt while I was there the precautions that were taken for our safety were well in hand. I still got to experience many holy sites and be blessed by walking the path that Jesus walked. Every day was started in prayer, singing, or scripture reading which also extended the blessing of the trip." Quincie L. – Tour to Israel/Egypt/Jordan February 2024

Featured Sites in Israel

Explore a vast selection of beautiful historical and Biblical locations throughout Israel with our Israel Holy Land tour. You can visit Jerusalem, Galilee, and parts of Samaria, getting the life-changing opportunity to see where Jesus and many other Biblical figures lived and walked. We even offer Holy Land tours that allow you to see the Dead Sea, the Garden Tomb, and the Jordan River Baptism Site. Like all of our Europe tours , our Israel Holy Land tours are led by local guides who have extensive knowledge of the area and its history. If you want to experience the history of Israel and see the Bible come to life, our Holy Land tours give you that opportunity.

The city of Jerusalem offers a unique convergence of Judaism, Christianity, and the Muslim faith. For Christians who visit Jerusalem, you will learn about many stories of the Bible while walking her streets. Many actors in the Bible such as Abraham, King David, King Solomon, the twelve disciples and Jesus all lived, visited, or spent time there. The Passion week of Christ will be highlighted during our stay as we visit the Mount of Olives, the Garden of Gethsemane, the Western Wall, the Way of Suffering, and the Garden Tomb.

Sea of Galilee

Nowhere in Israel does the Bible come to life more than along the shores of the Sea of Galilee. Pilgrims who visit the Galilee region have the opportunity to imagine what life was like 2,000 years ago and what Jesus and the twelve disciples experienced while fishing on the Sea of Galilee. The peaceful setting and the natural wonders of the Golan Heights to the east and Mt. Arbel to the west make for a great way to start your morning in quiet reflection. During our tour, we explore the Biblical towns of Capernaum, Magdala, and Nazareth and take a meaningful cruise on the Sea of Galilee.

The Dead Sea is not only the lowest and most lifeless lake in the world, but also nearly 10 times saltier than the ocean. Travelers will enjoy the beautiful colors of the blue water and the red mountains of Jordan to the east. Take time to enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime Dead Sea “float” either in the sea itself or at one of the warm salt water pools at our hotel. The Dead Sea experience is truly a bucket list visit you won’t want to miss!

Garden Tomb

Our visit to the Garden Tomb and its surrounding gardens is normally one of the highlights of our tour to Israel. The Garden Tomb is a rock-cut tomb in Jerusalem that was unearthed in 1867 and is considered by some Protestants to be the site of the burial and resurrection of Jesus. Our visit offers a unique time of prayer, reflection, communion, and praise, which will be a special life-long memory for many travelers.

Jordan River Baptism Site

The Jordan River Baptist Site or “Yardenit” is a baptism site located along the Jordan River just south of the Sea of Galilee in northern Israel. This site is frequented by Christian Pilgrims who enjoy imagining the setting of the baptism of Jesus. For anyone who would like to be baptized in the Jordan River, Yardenit has been developed to be a peaceful setting with beautiful gardens, clean colored water, changing facilities, showers, and a nice souvenir shop.

Caesarea Philippi

To many Pilgrim travelers, Caesarea Philippi is a special surprise while on their tour. Located along the rushing springs of Mt. Hermon, the beautiful and natural setting is where Jesus asked his disciples “Who do men say that I am?” He asked this question while observing the pagan worship of the god Pan as worshipers offered their sacrifice at the “Gates of Hell.” Our time at Caesarea Philippi is one of many opportunities throughout our tour to see the lessons and message of the Bible come to light in a special way.

Israel Tours: Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best month for the Holy Land tour?

Taking a trip to Israel during the spring or fall offers the most enjoyable weather of the year but normally has the largest crowds. If you want to enjoy a peaceful tour with fewer crowds, consider visiting between December and February or June and August. We offer Israel and Jordan tours throughout the year, so you can select a trip that works for your schedule.

How many days do you need for a Holy Land tour?

We offer several types of tours of the Holy Land, so the duration of your tour depends on the tour package you choose. The Best of Israel Tour is our most basic offering and includes a Sea of Galilee boat ride, a trip to the Jordan River Baptism Site, the Dead Sea, and many opportunities to walk on the same land Jesus walked on. This is our shortest trip at just 9 or 10 days. Our most involved trips allow you to experience a wide range of historical locations over the course of a few weeks. Egypt tours are included in some of these packages, as well as tours in Greece and other countries. These tours can take up to 24 days, giving you the chance to spend an extended period of time learning about and visiting different parts of the world. From our Turkey tours to all of our Israel Christian tours, all of our tours feature a first-class hotel rating for the country you visit. We do offer some upgraded tours that offer better lodging options. You can review our hotel categories at https://www.pilgrimtours.com/company/hotelcomparison.htm . Check out any of our tours to view a day-by-day itinerary and see what amenities are included with each tour.

What is the dress code in Israel?

The dress code in Israel is different from other parts of the world. There are a few dress code basics you should understand before booking Israel tours: When you’re in Israel, there is no strict dress code. You can wear what you feel comfortable wearing. However, both men and women should try to dress conservatively and cover their shoulders and knees when visiting any of the religious sites throughout Israel. Generally speaking, it’s best to avoid tank tops and shorts. Men need to cover their heads when visiting the Western Wall. Pilgrim Tours provides a Pilgrim Tours ball cap upon arrival in Israel, but you might consider purchasing an affordable kippa that you can bring when you visit Jewish sites. Some places may offer a free kippa, but these are generally low quality. (Women are not required to cover their heads at any sight.) You can figure out what you need to pack and how to dress each day by looking at the itinerary for our Holy Land tours. Guides normally offer guidance on how to dress for the next day while on tour. We also suggest looking at the extended weather forecast as you prepare and pack for your trip.

Is there a lot of walking involved on an Israel Tour?

Our Israel tours do require a significant amount of walking each day and you should be able to walk unassisted 3-4 miles per day on average. Make sure you have a comfortable pair of shoes that provide adequate support. While there are bus and boat rides during these tours, you have to walk quite a bit to explore some of the Biblical sites. Our tour guides normally give the group a few options at sites for those that have physical limitations. One thing to keep in mind is that there are many hills and valleys in Israel which can make walking even more taxing. The amount of walking you have to do may vary based on the tour you take, so look at the itinerary before choosing your tour. The good news is that Israel is a beautiful country to see on foot, and you’ll have several opportunities to sit down and give your feet a rest. As long as you have a good pair of shoes and comfortable clothes, it’s easy to forget about all the walking you’re doing and enjoy the tour.

What passport & visa information do I need for your Israel tours?

U.S. citizens need a valid U.S. passport with at least six months validity beyond their intended stay to enter Israel. Make two photocopies of your passport. Leave one copy at home and carry the other separately from your original. Israel: U.S. and Canadian Citizens do not need a Visa when entering Israel. Non U. S. /Canadian Citizens are responsible to fulfill appropriate entry requirements of destination. Contact your Consulate office for requirements.

What common languages will be spoken during your Israel tours?

Hebrew, Arabic and English.

What currency can I use on your Israel tours?

The U.S. dollar is widely accepted across Israel, and we suggest bringing about $30 for each day you’ll be on tour. U.S. dollars are recommended for use for small purchases and lunches. Lunches typically cost $15-20. It is important to bring about 20 $1 bills as some bathrooms charge a small fee for use. Credit cards may also be used for larger purchases. ATMs in Israel are all connected to European and American banking systems. Please be advised that the ATM machines dispense money in SHEKELS – NOT U.S. DOLLARS. Please notify your bank before traveling overseas.

Do I need to bring a converter for the Israel tour?

Israel uses the European plug with two round pins. You will need to bring along the necessary converters and adapters to operate any 120 volt appliances such as hair dryers and electric razors as well as camera and cell phone chargers. Electricity in Israel is 220 volts 50 Hz.

What is the time zone for your Israel tours?

The time zone for Israel is seven hours ahead of EST and two hours ahead of GMT.

What climate should I expect during your Israel tours?

In Israel the climate is temperate, and temperatures all year-round are reasonable. Israel has two main seasons: winter (from November to March) is cold and rainy in most parts of the country; summer (from April to October) is hot and dry with little or no rainfall. The desert areas can be extremely hot in summer time.

Tours to the Holy Land: Trips & Israel Tour Packages 2024, 2025

Our Israel tours & Holy Land tours of 9-24 days for the Evangelical Protestant Bible believer are what Pilgrim Tours does best. Prepare yourself for a life-changing journey to walk where Jesus walked and visit Jerusalem, Galilee, & Samaria. Each of our Israel tours is led by a local guide who is an experienced expert on the historical, cultural, scenic, and spiritual history of the Holy Land. If you travel with 10 or more people, a private group tour can easily be arranged. Pilgrim Tours can customize an itinerary to fit your group needs with many options to choose from.

Concerned about safety? As a Christian tour operator, the staff at Pilgrim Tours takes a Biblical perspective regarding the current situation in the Middle East. We do not believe that peace in Israel is something that will occur until the Prince of Peace comes to restore His kingdom. Please do not make a reservation with us based on the hopes of a calm future. If you long for the special blessings only available in Israel, we will take you there. An expert driver and guide will carefully keep you from any areas that could present a problem and treat you to the riches of Israel as our special guest.

Featured Sites in Israel

The city of Jerusalem offers a unique convergence of Judaism, Christianity and the Muslim faith. For Christians who visit Jerusalem, you will learn about many stories of the Bible while walking her streets. Many actors in the Bible such as Abraham, King David, King Solomon, the twelve disciples and Jesus all lived, visited, or spent time there. The Passion week of Christ will be highlighted during our stay as we visit the Mount of Olives, the Garden of Gethsemane, the Western Wall, the Way of Suffering and the Garden Tomb.

Sea of Galilee

Nowhere in Israel does the Bible come to life more than along the shores of the Sea of Galilee. Pilgrims who visit the Galilee region will have opportunity to imagine what life was like 2,000 years ago and what Jesus and the twelve disciples experienced while fishing on the Sea of Galilee. The peaceful setting and the natural wonders of the Golan Heights to the east and Mt. Arbel to the west make for a great way to start your morning in quiet reflection. During our tour, we will explore the Biblical towns of Capernaum, Magdala, Nazareth and take a meaningful cruise on the Sea of Galilee.

The Dead Sea is not only the lowest & most lifeless lake in the world, but also nearly 10% saltier than the ocean. Travelers will enjoy the beautiful colors of the blue water and the red mountains of Jordan to the east. Take time to enjoy a once in a lifetime Dead Sea “float” either in the sea itself or at one of the warm salt water pools at our hotel. The Dead Sea experience is truly a bucket list visit you won’t want to miss!

  • Garden Tomb

Our visit to the Garden Tomb and its surrounding gardens is normally one of the highlights of our tour to Israel. The Garden Tomb is a rock-cut tomb in Jerusalem that was unearthed in 1867 and is considered, by some Protestants, to be the site of the burial and resurrection of Jesus. Our visit offers a unique time of prayer, reflection, communion, and praise which will be a special life-long memory for many travelers.

For anyone who would like to be baptized in the Jordan River, Yardenit has been developed to be a peaceful setting with beautiful gardens, clean colored water, changing facilities, showers and a nice souvenir shop.

Caesarea Philippi

To many Pilgrim travelers, Caesarea Philippi is a special surprise while on their tour. Located along the rushing springs of Mt. Hermon, the beautiful and natural setting is where Jesus asked his disciples “Who do men say that I am?” He asked this question while observing the pagan worship of the god Pan as worshipers offered their sacrifice at the “Gates of Hell”. Our time at Caesarea Philippi is one of many opportunities throughout our tour to see the lessons and message of the Bible come to light in a special way.

  • Frequently Asked Questions

What passport & visa information do I need for your Israel tours?

US citizens need a valid U.S. passport with at least six months validity beyond intended stay, to enter Israel.

The US Dollar is widely accepted across Israel and we suggest bringing about $25 for each day you’ll be on tour. U.S. dollars are recommended for use for small purchases and lunches. Lunches typically cost $10-15. It is important to bring about 20 - $1 bills as some bathrooms charge a small fee for use. Credit cards may also be used for larger purchases. ATMs in Israel are all connected to European and American banking systems. Please be advised that the ATM machines dispense money in SHEKELS – NOT US DOLLARS. Please notify your bank before traveling overseas.

What voltage will the electricity be during during your Israel tours?

Electricity in Israel is 220 volts 50 Hz and uses the European plug with two round pins. You will need to bring along the necessary converters and adapters to operate any 120 volt appliances such as hair dryers and electric razors as well as camera and cell phone chargers.

What is the time zone for your Israel tours?

The time zone for Israel is seven hours ahead of EST and two hours ahead of GMT.

What climate should I expect during your Israel tours?

In Israel the climate is temperate, and temperatures all year round are reasonable. Israel has two main seasons: Winter (from November to March) is cold and rainy in most parts of the country; summer (from April to October) is hot and dry with little or no rainfall. The desert areas can be extremely hot in summer time. The best time to visit is March-June or October-November, although climate shouldn't be a major consideration in choosing a time to visit.

17-Day Trip

Would you like to have a life-changing and never-to-be-forgotten experience? If so, it is our joy to invite you to join us on a trip of a lifetime to the Land of the Bible, where you will find a new dimension in understanding the Bible and the life of Jesus. THIS IS A CUSTOM-DESIGNED TRIP

If you want to spend more time in Israel and see more holy sites, then this trip is designed for you. Most trips to the Holy Land allow only around 7-8 full days in Israel. This severely limits what can be seen. Therefore, most who go to the Holy Land miss out on many significant holy sites as a result. This trip will have you in Israel for 13 full touring days. You will, therefore, see almost everything significant there is to see in Israel.

A 17-day trip like this normally is quite expensive (if you can find one). Why can we do it so inexpensively? Because we are eliminating tour companies, travel agencies, tour guides, etc., and are providing these services instead. We are also allowing you to book your own airfare, lodging, and some of your meals. And lastly, we are staying in nice, clean hotels /hostels instead of expensive hotels.  It is our pleasure to serve you and our Lord Jesus Christ in offering you this special and affordable trip of a lifetime.

Because this is a custom trip, each participant will be required to book their own airfare, lodging, and purchase some of their own meals.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This trip is not for the weak and faint of heart! There will be a fair amount of walking, some hiking, times when it could be warm (Dead Sea area), etc. Those considering this trip need to be in pretty good shape and able to withstand some discomfort at times due to heat, walking, hiking, etc. Our estimated walking distance will be about 2 - 4  miles (3-6 km.) a day.

GROUP SIZE LIMIT

In order to have a more intimate and better experience, we limit our group size to around  35  people. This allows us to be more efficient and see more places in Israel. Larger teams bring a different dynamic that slows things down and makes travel more difficult.

Each person will be responsible for booking their own air travel to Israel (to and from Ben Gurion Airport). Please make plans to arrive with plenty of time to attend our orientation and get-acquainted meeting at 7:00 pm at the Kfar Maccabiah Hotel & Suites in Tel Aviv. For those having the time and resources, arriving a day early will give you a chance to rest up and get better prepared for your experience in Israel. Due to customs and obtaining visas, please allow 3 hours from airport arrival to hotel arrival. The hotel is about 15 minutes from the airport, depending on traffic.

Note: For those having the time and resources, arriving a day early will give you a chance to rest up and get better prepared for your experience in Israel.

TRANSPORTATION IN ISRAEL

We will be transported via a large, air-conditioned motorcoach. We will also use Jerusalem's light rail train service for a couple of days in Jerusalem.

LODGING IN ISRAEL

We will be staying at hotels with private rooms and bathrooms during our time in Israel. Our itinerary shows the hotels where we will stay (a total of three: Tel Aviv, Tiberias, and Jerusalem). Click here for hotel reservation links .

You will be allowed one carry-on piece of luggage and one suitcase. Because each person will be responsible for transporting their luggage from the motorcoach to the hotels, it is highly recommended to keep your suitcase under 40 pounds. This will also prevent you from an extra charge by airlines for heavy luggage.

MEALS IN ISRAEL

Each person will be responsible for paying for their own lunches and dinners.

Breakfast  - The hotels will provide breakfast if desired. Some will provide dinners as well. These can be paid for when you book your lodging or at the hotels.  It's ideal to eat breakfast at the hotels as it's handy. However, you can eat your breakfast if desired at a local restaurant or made by hand.

Lunch  - Because eating out is expensive in Israel, time-consuming with a large group, and we will not always be close to a restaurant, each trip participant will prepare themself a daily sack lunch. Each day around noon, we will take a break to eat, or you can eat and snack as you wish. Lunch items can be purchased at local grocery stores, and the hotels will have refrigerators in the rooms.

Dinner  – On your own. Enjoy the local culture as you eat at local restaurants or the hotel if you prefer.

PARK & ENTRANCE PASSES

Holy Land Site Ministries will pay for all park and entrance fees to all sites. You will be responsible for paying any entrance fees you want to see during your free time.

WHAT WILL OUR VISITS TO EACH SITE BE LIKE?

Our visits will normally last around two hours. We will begin with some orientation of the site. Then we'll do a walking tour to see the site and its points of interest. Afterward, we'll find a quiet spot to reflect on the main events from the Bible that happened at the site and close with a faith lesson to learn the key truths God would desire to teach us. Some of the Bible teachings might be filmed for publishing on our website. We'll then end our visit with some free time.

A valid U.S. Passport is required. Passports must have at least six months left before they expire for travel to Israel.

TRIP PREPARATION

Please utilize the videos and info on our website that provide help and orientation to better understand many of the biblical sites we will be visiting, the history of Israel, and other helpful info. In addition, we will provide helpful info leading up to our trip that will help prepare you to get the most out of your holy land experience.

We also ask that you acquaint yourself with our Travel Orientation Material found on our website. You will find it extremely helpful.

TIME OF YEAR FOR THIS TRIP

We’ve chosen these dates to visit Israel because the weather is stable, the days are longer, and there are no Jewish Holidays that will interfere with our travels.

DAILY ITINERARY

Please take into consideration that there might be slight adjustments to the schedule depending on things out of our control. Additionally, if the team would like some flexibility in seeing sights, we are happy to do this if possible.

MONEY IN ISRAEL

Credit cards and Dollars are readily accepted, and Shekels can be drawn from ATMs.

INTERNET IN ISRAEL

Phone SIM cards can be purchased for around $39.99 if you want Internet service at all times while in Israel. You can also activate your phone for international service.

If you don't have Internet via your phone service,  at each hotel where we will be staying, free Internet service is provided. Also, the tour bus has free Internet service as well.

The best option is to make sure you have Internet in Israel (you can activate your phone or get an Israeli SIM card) and use Google Maps. It will tell you exactly which bus, light rail train, or walking route to use. It also works in real-time, so you can see exactly when buses and light rail trains are arriving and departing.

The minimum age for trip participants is 12 years old unless other arrangements have been made with tour hosts.

SUN, APRIL 30    TEL AVIV – SEA OF GALILEE AREA

Refreshed from a good night's sleep, we’ll visit Old Jaffa (Joppa), the traditional home of Simon the Tanner, the port from which Jonah sailed, and the logs arrived for the construction of the Temple in Jerusalem. We’ll then pass through the fast-growing towns and farms of the Plain of Sharon en route to Caesarea Maritima , where the Holy Spirit came to the Gentiles and the site of major events in the lives of Peter and Paul. We’ll drive through the rolling hills of Galilee to Nazareth , where Jesus grew up, and visit the  Church of the Annunciation , where the angel, Gabriel, announced to Mary that she would be the mother of the Messiah. We'll then drive through Cana , where Christ performed His first public miracle. Then it’s on to Tiberias and the Sea of Galilee , which will be our base for the next 4 nights. Free time afterward.

Lodging at Prima Galil Tiberias Hotel, El Hadif Street 1, Tiberias. Four nights total.

Tour Day 1:   G oogle Map Itinerary

MON, MAY 1    SEA OF GALILEE AREA

This day alone is worth the trip! We are now literally walking in the footsteps of Jesus. We'll start the day at Ginasor , where we'll see an ancient boat  ( Beit Yigal Allon Museum) from the time of Jesus. We'll  take a most memorable boat ride on the Sea of Galilee  in a replica of an ancient wooden boat used in Jesus’ day. We’ll visit the  Mount of Beatitudes , the location of the beautiful Sermon on the Mount, where Christ preached his longest and most famous sermon. From the Mount of Beatitudes, we'll walk in the footsteps of Jesus down the hill to Tabgha by the Sea of Galilee. Then on to Capernaum , where Jesus set up His home ministry base and often preached in the ancient synagogue. We will continue our drive around the Sea of Galilee to Kursi , the place where Christ cast out a legion of demons out of a demon-possessed man. We'll end the day at a breathtaking spot  overlooking the Sea of Galilee , where we'll be able to see many sites around its shore, one of which is where the Feeding of the 5,000  took place. Free time afterward.

Tour Day 2: Google Map Itinerary

TUES, MAY 2    SEA OF GALILEE AREA

We’ll visit Chorazin , one of the cursed towns, which has one of the most preserved synagogues in the Galilee area. We’ll visit Magdala , the hometown of Mary Magdalene, from whom Christ cast out seven demons. We will then wrap up the day at the most likely place Jesus called many of His disciples and the area where Peter was reconciled with Christ after denying Him three times. We’ll visit Gideon’s Spring , where Gideon selected his soldiers to do battle against the Midianites. We’ll return to the Sea of Galilee and finish the day on top of Mt. Arbel , the believed place where Christ gave the Great Commission, and which provides a breathtaking view of the Sea of Galilee. Free time afterward.

Tour Day 4: Google Map Itinerary

We'll provide an option for those who would like to get baptized to do so. Then to Jericho , the oldest known walled city and the first place Joshua and the Israelites conquered upon entering the Promised Land. We’ll then visit Qumran , where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found in 1947. Then, we'll ascend and enter Jerusalem as pilgrims did since ancient times to fulfill the words of the prophet "I was glad when they said unto me: 'Our feet shall stand within thy Gates, O Jerusalem'" (Psalms 122:1–2). Free time afterward.

Lodging at Prima Park Hotel Jerusalem: 2 Vilnay Street, Jerusalem. Nine nights total.

We’ll visit ancient  Gomorrah , one of the cities God destroyed by fire and brimstone due to their wickedness. Then, what would a visit to Israel be without taking a dip, or rather a float, in the Dead Sea ? Free time afterward.

Tour Day 6: Google Map Itinerary

SAT, MAY 6    BETHLEHEM – JUDAH AREA

We’ll see ancient Shiloh , the place the Tabernacle resided for 369 years and where Hannah prayed for a son (Samuel). Then it’s on to ancient Bethel , where Jacob saw a ladder to heaven, where the tabernacle resided, and where Jeroboam erected a Golden Calf. We'll drive by the site of ancient Ai , the second city Joshua and the Israelites destroyed. Free time afterward.

Tour Day 8: Google Map Itinerary

MON, MAY 8    JERUSALEM

We’ll start the day with a magnificent view of the Old City from the top of the Mt. of Olives and orient ourselves to the layout and places of Jerusalem . We’ll then visit the Chapel of Ascension , the place where Christ ascended back to heaven and where His feet will touch down at His glorious second coming. We'll visit Pater Noster Church , a place Christ taught His disciples how to pray. We’ll take the Palm Sunday Walk to the Garden of Gethsemane and the Church of All Nations . Along the way, we’ll visit Dominus Flevit , the place where Christ wept over Jerusalem. We’ll see Mary’s Tomb  and underground caves that were part of Gethsemane . Free time afterward.

Tour Day 9: Google Map Itinerary

TUES, MAY 9      JERUSALEM

Today we will visit the Upper Room , the location of the Last Supper,  and place an early church/synagogue  was built by early Christians shortly after the time of Christ. Next, we'll see the House of Caiaphas , where Christ was tried before Caiaphas, Peter denied Christ three times, and where Christ was beaten and spent the night in a dungeon . While at the House of Caiaphas, we'll see a model of Jerusalem from around 135 AD . Then we'll have the privilege of visiting the City of David , where everything began in Jerusalem. While in the City of David, we'll see David's Palace , ancient ruins, the remains of  Nehemiah's Wall, and King David's Tomb.  For those who would like, you can walk through Hezekiah's Water Tunnel , which diverts the water from the Gihon Spring to the Pool of Siloam.   For the others, you can walk the Canaanite Dry Tunnel . We'll then all meet and see the Pool of Siloam , where Christ healed a blind man. We’ll then walk part of the Kidron Valley (Valley of Jehoshaphat), where God’s winepress of wrath will be poured out on the gathered nations at Christ's second coming and from where the blood (the height of a horse’s bridle) will flow to the Dead Sea and beyond. Free time afterward.

Tour Day 10: Google Map Itinerary

WED, MAY 10    JERUSALEM

Today, we’ll visit and walk on the Temple Mount , the location where Solomon’s Temple was and the holiest and most battled-over piece of land in the world. We'll then see the Western Wall , the Jew’s most holy site in Israel. We’ll visit the Southern Stairs Area , which was the main entrance to the Temple Mount, a place Christ and His disciples would have often been, and the likely place where those who received Christ at Pentecost were baptized. Next, we'll experience the amazing Western Wall Tunnels Tour , where we'll go underground to see the northern section of the Western Walls. We’ll then walk through part of the Cardo , an original Roman street, and then see the amazing remains of the massive Broad Wall  built by King Hezekiah. Free time afterward.

Today, we’ll travel to Hebron , the place where Abraham had many encounters with God and from where King David reigned over Judah for 7 1/2 years. We'll begin by visiting the Oaks of Mamre , a preserved site over the place where Abraham lived for a period of time and had several amazing encounters with God. Just a short distance from the Oaks of Mamre is the place where the patriarchs are buried in the Cave of Machpelah . Close to Machpelah are the ruins of ancient  Tel Hebron . We’ll then travel to Beersheba , where Abraham lived and made a covenant with Abimelech. Farew ell  Dinner at 6:30 pm for those who are able. Free time afterward.

From there, we'll walk the biblical Via Dolorosa (painful path to the Cross) to Golgotha , which is where the Church of the Holy Sepulchre is today. We'll then visit and explore the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and see why it's the best candidate for Golgotha. Then we'll walk to the Lions' Gate and see the famous Eastern Gate and Eastern Wall , where we'll see ancient stones dating back to the time of Christ and see the evidence of the original Temple Mount and its expansions over the years. Then we'll see   the Church of St. Anne,  where the Pool of Bethesda  is located, the place Jesus healed a sick man after he had waited 38 long years. We’ll then walk the traditional path of the  Via Dolorosa  and see the Stations of the Cross . We'll end our day with a look at the rock formation at the Garden Tomb, which some believe is Golgotha. The Wonders of Israel & Jordan

A 13-day inspirational tour.

One of the best ways you can learn about a person or even an event is being there—to be on site. We can certainly learn from reading and studying on our own, but being in the physical place with other fellow believers creates the scene in our mind’s eye; brings a biblical character or story to life, thus deepening our own faith and walk with the Lord.

In October 2023, in partnership with Pilgrim Tours , we're excited to collectively GO to the places where significant Biblical events occurred - events that have shaped history. You can literally walk in the footsteps of Jesus and other characters of the Bible - providing color and shape to the people, stories, and places referred to in the Word.

Our tour will be led by a local guide who is an expert on the historical, cultural, scenic, and spiritual history of Israel. Likewise, you will also have rich times of fellowship with your fellow travelers, meeting kindred spirits and making deep friendships along the way. We hope you can come!

Approx. Price Per Person (Based on Double-Occupancy): $3,799/person

The entire tour costs approximately $3,799/person and includes a irfare, visa from Jordan to Israel, transportation from airport to hotel and return to airport on the 20th, tour buses, Christian guides, headsets and 4-star hotels. In addition, all breakfasts and dinners are also covered in the price.

  • DEPOSIT : $300 ($100 is nonrefundable)

long hollow church israel trip 2023

This morning we travel southward to what was the Arabian Nabataean Kingdom, inhabited by the descendants of Ismael’s son. Following lunch we visit the Wadi Rum Visitors Center for an introduction and then board open top jeeps for a tour of the famous dessert and mountain sights.

Wadi Rum, a World Heritage Site, is known as the location of many films including Star Wars and Lawrence of Arabia, featuring dramatic sandstone mountains and natural arches.

We will stop for local tea at a Bedouin tent and an optional camel ride before we continue on to our lodging for the evening in Aqaba or Petra.

Day 4 (Wednesday, October 11): Petra

long hollow church israel trip 2023

This morning we visit the amazing mountain fortress of Petra, known to be inhabited by the Edomites - the descendants of Esau.

We begin the tour with a walk through the "Siq," an immense crack in the Nabatean sandstone, to the city of Petra carved out of the rose red rock. The Treasury, El Khazneh, is one of the most elegant remains of antiquity. Beyond El Khazneh we are surrounded on both sides by hundreds of Petra's carved and built structures.

Departing Petra, we travel northward on the King's Highway where to the west we view the hills bordering the Dead Sea. This is the area of the hilltop palace/fortress of Machaerus, where John the Baptist was beheaded. We overnight in Amman this evening.

Day 5 (Thursday, October 12): Mt Nebo, Madaba, Tel Aviv

long hollow church israel trip 2023

Our morning tour begins in the town of Madaba, the biblical Medeba, 30 kilometers south of Amman. Madaba is best known for its Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics and at the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George we view the earliest surviving mosaic map of the Holy land. Mt. Nebo, believed to be the site of the tomb of Moses, commands a spectacular view across the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea. Study the panorama as we read the scripture of God showing Moses the "Promised Land" before He brought him home to heaven.

As we travel west toward the Allenby Bridge, we view to the north the Plains of Moab, the area where the tribes of Israel camped before crossing the Jordan and picture the place where Jesus was baptized.

Crossing the Jordan River into Israel, we drive to Tel Aviv area with the remainder of the afternoon free. You may wish to take a devotional time with the sunset over the “Great Sea,” a time of prayer and thanks for the special blessings ahead, a prayer for the people of this land, and then enjoy a good night’s rest.

Day 6 (Friday, October 13): Caesarea, Megiddo & Nazareth

long hollow church israel trip 2023

After breakfast, we travel by private motor coach along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea to Caesarea, where Gentiles first heard the Good News from Peter and were baptized. We’ll see the Roman Amphitheatre, harbor/palace area and aqueduct, and then journey on to Mt. Carmel, where Elijah challenged King Ahab and the prophets of Baal.

Next we travel through the Jezreel Valley to Megiddo, the Armageddon Battlefield, where archaeologists have unearthed 20 levels of civilization.

We drive through the area of Cana and Nazareth, the boyhood home of Jesus, where we visit the Nazareth Village - a wonderful recreation of Biblical times with costumed guides.

We will have dinner and overnight lodging for the next two nights in the Tiberias area on the Sea of Galilee.

Day 7 (Saturday, October 14): Dan, Caesarea Philippi, Capernaum, Magdala, Sea of Galilee

long hollow church israel trip 2023

Boat Ride Following breakfast, our morning travels take us to two valuable northern sites. Dan is where the children of Israel fell to the depths of alternative sacrifice and Caesarea Philippi, the site of Peter’s Confession and pagan worship. We pass the possible site of the multiplication of loaves and fishes in Bethsaida and the Mount of the Beatitudes.

Returning to Tiberias for a St. Peter’s Fish Lunch (other selections available), we then visit the ancient Fisherman Boat followed by a relaxing cruise on the Sea of Galilee. A brief scripture reading and devotional on board brings to life the experiences of Jesus and the fishermen disciples.

In Capernaum, we view the excavations of the sea-side village and Peter’s home, followed by a visit to Magdala, home town of Mary Magdalene. The recent excavation of the First Century Synagogue and well preserved village makes Magdala one of the most interesting Biblical sites in Israel.

Day 8 (Sunday, October 15): Jordan River Baptism Site, Beth Shean, & Dead Sea

long hollow church israel trip 2023

We begin our day with the opportunity to be baptized at the Jordan River Baptismal site.

Next we travel southward to Beit-Shean/Scythopolis, the most magnificent archeological site in Israel, located at the strategic juncture of the Jezreel and Jordan valleys. Like Jericho, it has been almost continuously occupied throughout history. After defeating Saul and his sons on Mt. Gilboa, the Philistines hanged their bodies on the walls of Beit-Shean. During the time of Jesus, Scythopolis was one of the chief cities of the Decapolis - a league of ten cities sharing Greek culture and government.

Following the fertile Jordan Valley southward, your guide will point out the agricultural restoration of the “Land of Milk and Honey” and Israel’s intricate irrigation development. We pass ancient Jericho and view from a distance this city famed as the oldest in the world.

To the east of Jericho along the Jordan River Valley (Queser El Yehud) is the Israeli side of Bethany beyond the Jordan. In this area Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist, Elijah and Elisha crossed the Jordan, as well as where the children of Israel, led by Joshua, entered the Promised Land.

Our lodging for the evening is at the Dead Sea – the lowest place on earth. Spend time in the special spa and enjoy a dip in the Dead Sea for a relaxing float before dinner.

Day 9 (Monday, October 16): Masada, Ein Gedi, Dead Sea Scrolls, and Abraham’s Tent

long hollow church israel trip 2023

Our day begins with a cable car ride to the mountain top fortress of Masada. Here our guide will treat us to the history of the famous zealot stand.

Afterwards we proceed to Ein Gedi, "Spring of the Goat," an oasis on the western shore of the Dead Sea. Because of its warm climate and abundant supply of water, the site developed a reputation for its fragrant plants and date palm groves. This is where King David hid from Saul, and where God defeated the enemies of the Israelites by praise and worship led by King Jehoshaphat.

Next, we visit Qumran Caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. This afternoon we will take part in the Genesis Land/Dinner in Abraham's Tent, where we enjoy a trip back in time: a reliving of life in the time of the Patriarchs, complete with costume, dramatic presentation, camel ride and authentic food.

Our lodging for the next four nights will be in Jerusalem.

Day 10 (Tuesday, October 17): Jesus' Steps, the Last Days - Messianic Lecture

long hollow church israel trip 2023

Today we walk where Jesus walked; beginning the day with a panoramic view of the city, Mount Moriah and the Dome of the Rock from atop the Mount of Olives and then the Garden of Gethsemane. How many have wished to be whisked back in time to get a glimpse of our Lord or hear His voice if only for a moment? To walk between the ancient olive trees, read the scriptures of Jesus' prayer and take time for personal reflection is important here.

Next we visit the House of Caiaphas where Jesus was beaten and spit upon. See a pit where he may have been held for the evening and the ancient hillside steps he walked as he was taken to be condemned.

On our way into the city we will visit the Wailing Wall and then the fascinating Rabbinical Tunnels leading us through the Second Temple era. The tunnel and exhibit give a clear understanding of the amazing construction of the Temple Mount, giant stones, water supply and Roman Street where our Lord was led to judgment. Before exiting the tunnel we see the immense cornerstone rejected by the builders.

We move on to the Judgment Hall of Pilate, hear of those who conspired against Him and are reminded of His brutal beating and humiliation. This evening we enjoy a special lecture by a local believer prior to dinner, giving us a perspective of Messianic life in Israel.

Day 11 (Wednesday, October 18): Way of Suffering, Garden Tomb, Pentecost, and Bethlehem

long hollow church israel trip 2023

While walking along the Via Dolorosa, we are reminded of His way of suffering along with a visit to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Our guide will explain the differing opinions on the route that Christ was led and the actual place of crucifixion and burial is a very interesting study.

The climax of the day is the area of Golgotha (place of the skull) and the Garden Tomb, where we celebrate the resurrection with communion and a time of praise.

This afternoon we visit the Southern Wall Excavations. This southern side of The Temple was the main entrance for the common folk, whereas the Priests and Levites had their own entrance from the higher eastern side. Parts of the giant stairs, which led to the Temple Mount from the courtyard have been unearthed along with the purification pools. From here Jesus entered the Temple Mount and drove out the vendors and money exchangers who were exploiting the people. It is also likely that this is the place that Peter stood and preached and where thousands were saved and baptized on the Day of Pentecost. We will enjoy a challenge from God’s Word and a song before an optional time this afternoon.

We spend the remainder of the day surrounding the birth of Christ with a visit to Bethlehem.

Day 12 (Thursday, October 19): City of David, Hezekiah’s Tunnel, and Israel Museum

long hollow church israel trip 2023

This morning, we begin our sightseeing just outside the Dung Gate on the southeastern hill below the Temple Mount in the City of David. It was during the time of Solomon that the city limits extended past this part of Jerusalem.

We visit Gihon Springs, the original water source for Jerusalem, view new excavations including a typical Israelite four-room house, and the lower city wall.

A highlight today will be a water walk through the incredible Hezekiah's Tunnel to the pool of Siloam, the place of Jesus' miracle in John 9. We will also see David’s Tomb before visiting David’s Citadel, climbing inside the tower for a view of Old Jerusalem as well as the remains of Herod’s palace and possible place of Pilate’s trial of Jesus.

We will spend the rest of our day at the Israel Museum. Walk through collections of century’s old Israel artifacts including the Dead Sea Scrolls, and then a guided walk through an accurately detailed model of Biblical Jerusalem. This model will help put into perspective all that you have seen over the previous days touring.

Day 13 (Friday, October 20): Departure for home

long hollow church israel trip 2023

A very early morning departure for the Tel Aviv Airport for our flight homeward will allow for arrival home by early afternoon.

Responsibilities

These tour programs are operated by Pilgrim Tours and Travel, Inc., 3071 Main Street, Morgantown, Pennsylvania 19543. All travel documents for services issued by the Company are subject to the terms & conditions specified by the contracted supplier, which are available upon request, and are subject to the laws of the countries in which the services are supplied. For your convenience, Pilgrim Tours is happy to help book your airfare. Pilgrim Tours will offer airfare options that best coincide with our land tour schedule. Your airfare will be quoted inclusive of all fuel, taxes and fees and will be quoted as non-refundable unless otherwise noted. Airline ticketing fee’s may appear as a separate charge on your credit card. Quoted airfare rates are subject to change until paid in full. Assigned seating may be limited and may not be available on every flight or departure date. Since most airlines now charge for assigned seats, there may be supplements in additional to the quoted airfare to confirm assigned seats. Most group air contracts do not allow for assigned seats in advance. Pilgrim Tours is not responsible for unforeseen flight delays or changes due to war, political unrest, acts of God, epi- demics or pandemics. Air schedules may be subject to change at the discretion of the airline. Pilgrim Tours does not accept liability in the case of any passenger being denied boarding by any airline carrier due to the carrier’s overbooking of a flight.

Tour Membership & Mobility Requirements

Tour membership is available to all travelers and will not be withheld if the tour operator can furnish the requirements that an individual may need. Because most of our Retail Tour sightseeing schedules require Tour Members to walk 1-2 miles at a time using a moderate pace and sometimes navigate uneven terrain, we cannot accept persons who cannot do that and instead require special assistance.

Should any Tour Member's participation somehow materially add to the tour operator's cost, the Tour Member will be expected to pay any additional costs. The Tour Director retains the right to require any non-sufficiently mobile persons to stay behind when deemed necessary, and also terminate the membership of any member displaying disruptive behavior, delaying or endangering fellow members and/or interfering with the operations of the tour. Private group tours vary in regards to mobility standards.

Proof of U.S. Citizenship, Passport, Visa & Minor Children requirements

All international tours require a current passport. Entrance to most countries requires your passport be valid for 6 months after your return date. Your passport information must be recorded by a Pilgrim Tours agent when making your reservation. Names on airline tickets must appear as shown on passport. Photocopies are not acceptable forms of identification. Minors traveling with either one parent or no parents must have a certified letter of permission from the parent or parents who is/are not traveling. If requested, this letter must be presented.  Non U. S. Citizens are responsible to fulfill appropriate entry requirements of the destination country. Contact the local Consulate of the countries you plan to visit and transit for entry requirement information.

Although every effort is made to handle passengers’ luggage as carefully as possible, Pilgrim Tours is not responsible for and does not assume liability or accept claims for loss of or damage to luggage due to breakage, theft or wear and tear through hotel, group carrier or airline handling. There are limitations by coach and air carrier as to the number and size of bags which can be carried onboard and in bulk storage.

However, during the tour, passengers are permitted one checked suitcase and one carry-on bag unless otherwise noted. Some airlines may impose additional charges if you choose to check any baggage. Please contact the airline or refer to the airlines website for detailed information regarding checked baggage policies.

This is a fee levied by the airlines, not Pilgrim Tours, and may be subject to change.

Travel Insurance Available for All Passengers

Pilgrim Tours strongly suggests purchasing a travel insurance plan. Be sure to check with your health insurance provider as many US medical coverage plans may not cover you outside of the country. Insurance costs are based on the total tour cost, including air taxes and charges listed under "Not Included." These charges are added to the final billing. Approximate amounts can be given at time of reservation in order to purchase the appropriate amount of insurance. Travel Insurance is non- refundable.

Zion – walk the traditional Via Dolorosa (Way of the Cross) and visit the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.  Return to our hotel – the Eldan.  You can walk to Jaffa Gate easily from the hotel if you wish after dinner.

View of Jerusalem's Old City in Israel at Sunset

  • Jewish Quarter, Southern Steps , Old City, Temple Mount, Israel Museum, Shrine of the Book, Isaiah 53 (Isaiah scroll).

Today we will visit the many sites within what they call the “Jewish Quarter”.  For us, most importantly are the Southern Steps of the temple which Jesus’ feet would have touched, and the many areas surrounding the walls around the Old City and the Jewish Quarter.  You will also walk onto Temple Mount for a teaching today and end your day at the Israel Museum.  At this museum you will have time to wander on your own to see its Biblical treasures, and as a group we will enjoy a teaching near the Old City replica outside.  Also, during your visit of the museum – you will be able to walk into the cherished Shrine of the Book – home to the Dead Sea Scrolls where it showcases many of its pieces, but of greatest mention is Isaiah 53, or the Isaiah scroll.

Jarusalem ruins

  • Underground site of the City of David. Hezekiah’s tunnel, Pool of Siloam, Yad Vashem (Holocaust Museum), Garden Tomb, dinner at Abu Gosh. Departure flights.

This morning you will be able to go into the newest archeological discovery for Jerusalem, and that is the newly completed underground site of the City of David.  You will be able to come out at Hezekiah’s tunnel and see the precious Pool of Siloam.  We will have lunch together today and travel over to Yad Vashem – or the Holocaust Museum.  End our day in the very late afternoon at the quiet Garden Tomb for a time of worship and communion together.  Farewell dinner at Abu Gosh and then check in for your evening flight.  We plan on being at the airport by 9:15PM for our 12:15AM flight that is nonstop to Chicago with one connection to Bozeman or Boise.

Walking Israel 2023

February 21–march 3, 2023 • 11 days • $3875.

This Israel tour is now full. If you would like to join a standby list, click the CONTACT US button to the right and request to be put on the List.

Explore the Holy Land of Israel on foot! We start in Tel Aviv and finish in Jerusalem, connecting with an abundance of historical and Biblical sites within this exotic, bewildering, and enchanting land!

NOTE: This is a special departure of Walking Israel provided only for Willamette Christian Church, Beaverton Christian Church, and Hope City Church. This tour is recommended for individuals High School and up.

Greetings from the WAI Travel Team,

We are excited and honored to present this lsrael 2023 journey to the Willamette Christian Church, Beaverton Christian Church, and Hope City Church. As the owner of WAI and a fellow believer, I have been thrilled to discover that our walking philosophy of travel also enhances a travel program in the Holy Land. Getting off the bus to walk, and including visits with cultural and historic significance, in addition to the biblical sites, leverages a trip to Israel into “more than a pilgrimage”! We’ve been captivated by Israel and believe you will be too.

Expect to be challenged by the breadth of historical periods that overlap each other in a seemingly endless chain of tribes, conquerors, and kingdoms. You’ll probably be surprised by Israel’s flora and fauna and the verdant green spaces of Galilee and Golan in the north. And it’s difficult not to be impressed by the deserts of the south at Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered; at Ein Gedi, where David hid from King Saul; and at Masada, the “Alamo” of the Jewish world.

In addition to preparing for a massive dose of sensory overload, we recommend approaching this experience expecting to be challenged. Let’s journey with open hearts, asking the Holy Spirit, our Comforter and Guide, to pare away traditions of religion that are an inevitable product of living in an affluent Western culture long established upon Christianity.

Anticipate returning with your worldview realigned with Jesus, the Way, the Truth, and the Life, having walked in His footsteps. Expect to gain a clearer understanding of the Father, our Master, and how we can be a more effective part of His plan to reconcile His lost world to Him.

Guide Ran Ortner

Ran Ortner has guided our tours to Israel since 2011 and offers a wealth of knowledge and background into the Israeli history and culture. Ran will accompany our group, offering lectures and insights along the way. Ran lives in a suburb of Tel Aviv. He has just completed his doctorate program in an area of study involving 1st century conflicts between Judea and the Roman Empire.

Travelers arrive throughout the day into the Tel Aviv Ben-Gurion International Airport, where they are greeted by a representative of WAI and transferred to our hotel located just two blocks from the Mediterranean Sea.

Travelers arriving a day early, February 20, may participate today in a complimentary, optional, half-day walking event along the seaside promenade, to the ancient port of Jaffa (Joppa). In Jaffa, King Solomon imported cedars from Lebanon to build Jerusalem’s First Temple. Here as well, the Apostle Peter received a vision of gentile equality with Jews. Those arriving on February 20 may purchase the pre-night in our hotel, including breakfast, for $113 per person in a double room ($218 in a single room).

The first official group activity of the day is this evening’s Welcome Orientation followed by dinner.

Caesarea Walk – 3 miles, rated 1C

From a trio of ancient aqueducts, we walk south, with sweeping views of the Mediterranean, into the ruins of 1st century Caesarea, now a national park. Numerous New Testament events took place in Herod the Great’s impressive port city, including Peter’s presentation of the Gospel to the household of Cornelius, the Roman centurion. We walk past stately remnants of the Crusader era that give way to ruins of the ancient hippodrome and amphitheater.

A delicious cultural lunch on nearby Mount Carmel in a Druze home provides insight into this mysterious Arabic culture which combines elements of all three monotheistic religions.

The afternoon stop takes us to Mukhraka Monastery, commemorating the duel between Old Testament prophet Elijah, and 450 prophets of the pagan god Baal. Our home this evening is in Nazareth, where Jesus grew up and started His ministry as Messiah.

Jesus Trail to Cana Walk – 6 miles, rated 3C

We start the day in Nazareth Village, a living history museum (operated by Christian Israeli Arabs) that brings the biblical era to life and offers a biblical-era lunch!

Afternoon activities begin in Zippori, the remarkable excavation of the hometown of Jesus’ mother, Mary. From Zippori, we walk in Jesus’ footsteps on the “Jesus Trail” along Galilean hills, through an Arab/Israeli village, arriving at Cana, where Jesus turned water into wine at a local wedding – his first public miracle.

We spend the next three nights at a kibbutz hotel on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee.

Beatitudes to Capernaum Walk – 3 miles, rated 2B

Mount Arbel offers dramatic panoramas over the Sea of Galilee with an equally dramatic story of radical Jewish resistance to Herod the Great, told by Jewish historian Josephus. Not far away at Ginosar is the Jesus Boat Museum, a 2000-year-old fishing boat carefully preserved and displayed, which we visit before lunch.

Today’s main walk starts at nearby Mount of Beatitudes, likely site of some of Jesus’ most familiar teachings, and takes us along the shores of Galilee to ancient Capernaum. Jesus spent the great majority of his public ministry around the Sea of Galilee, and this afternoon we sail across this freshwater lake from Capernaum to Ginosar, the site of our hotel, where we spend a relaxing evening on the shores of the Sea of Galilee.

Tel Dan Walk – 1 mile, rated 1B Jordan Headwaters Walk – 3 miles, rated 2C Gamla Nature Walk – 3 miles, rated 3C

North of Galilee, in the Golan Heights, our first walk passes through an Israelite gate from the time of King Jeroboam and enters the Tel Dan archeological site to a high place of sacrifice and an overlook into neighboring Lebanon.

Next, we visit the headwaters of the Jordan, marked by an intriguing ruin with the biblical name of Caesarea Philippi. Here, challenged by Jesus’ question, “Who do men say that I am?” Peter became the first of the apostles to affirm Jesus as Messiah.

Further south, the national park of Gamla offers both historic intrigue and natural beauty. An epic battle between Jewish rebels and Roman legions here in 67 AD ultimately led to the devastation of Jerusalem foretold by Jesus. From the viewpoint over the long-lost ruins of Gamla, where you can almost hear the sounds of the battle, we walk along a breathtaking canyon known for wildlife and its population of soaring griffin vultures.

King Saul & Jonathan Walk – 1.5 miles, rated 2B

Heading south, our first stop is the ancient archeological site of Beit She’an, claiming 20 different eras of occupation. Before dropping down to the Roman-era ruins, we climb the Philistine Tell, where victorious Philistines displayed the bodies of King Saul and his sons after their defeat on nearby Mount Gilboa.

Further south, we visit a parched desert at Qumran, where a Bedouin shepherd boy discovered the Dead Sea Scrolls in 1947. The find sent tremors throughout the archeological world and lent additional weight to the authenticity of the Bible and its record of Jewish history.

The day ends early at a Dead Sea resort in Ein Bokek with time for a spa treatment or a relaxing, unsinkable soak in the soothing waters at this lowest spot on earth!

Masada Snake Path Walk -1.3 miles, rated 3B (OPTIONAL) Ein Gedi David Waterfall Walk – 1.3 miles, rated 2C

Masada is another masterpiece of Herod the Great – a mountain-top citadel/playground captured by Jewish rebels in 66 AD, at the beginning of the First Jewish-Roman War. To reach the top, either climb the ancient, winding Snake Path, or ride the 21st century gondola. In an epic setting, we learn of the epic siege that ended tragically in self-inflicted death for the Jewish defenders, marking the end of the brutal First Jewish-Roman War.

Our second walk intersects the wanderings of King Saul again, this time at Ein Gedi, as we walk along a stream past lovely waterfalls below the caves where Saul hunted in vain for his son-in-law, fugitive and future king David.

Returning north, we end the day just outside the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem in a hotel that will be our home for the next four nights.

Jerusalem Footsteps of Jesus Walk – 3 miles, rated 2B

Today’s memorable walk begins at the Mount of Olives with sweeping views over Jerusalem. From here, we descend a trail of tears along a network of legendary sites connected with Jesus’ last days. Most prominent are the Sanctuary of Dominus Flevit (commemorating Jesus weeping over Jerusalem’s future destruction) and the Garden of Gethsemane.

Upon entering the Old City through the Lion’s Gate, we continue into the Muslim Quarter on Via Dolorosa, the Way of Suffering, a historically-dubious route to Golgotha marked out by medieval Franciscan Catholics. The route is thought-provoking, nevertheless, and takes us through Jerusalem’s evocative, winding, cobblestone streets to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, culmination of our route and, more importantly, the focal point of human history.

Join us this afternoon for a visit to the City of David National Park. Here, where David first took Jerusalem from the Jebusites, we descend underground. The wet route splashes through the dark, water-filled (up to your calves) 2700-year-old tunnel built by King Hezekiah as a secret water channel prior to the Assyrian siege. A dry route that shares the historical value of the experience is also available.

Bethlehem Manger Walk – 2 miles, rated 1B

We begin our day with a short, six mile drive south to Bethlehem, in the Palestinian West Bank. A walk through old Bethlehem takes us to Manger Square, where we enter the Church of the Nativity, memorializing the birth of Jesus.

Our next stop explores a network of caves overlooking fields where shepherds may have “watched their flocks by night” before they received the momentous announcement by the heavenly host!

Following a cultural lunch experience in Bethlehem, a Palestinian town, join us for an excursion to Yad Vashem, an unforgettable holocaust museum and memorial in West Jerusalem.

The evening continues with a high-tech, sound and light history of Israel magically projected onto the crumbling shapes of the ruins of the Tower of David. Dinner is nearby in a historic old building in the Armenian Quarter of Old Jerusalem.

Jerusalem Ramparts & Western Wall Walk – 2.5 miles, rated 2C

We begin our day with a walk from our hotel to the Temple Mount (conditions permitting), holy to both Islam and Judaism as the site of:

  • Mt. Moriah, where Abraham nearly sacrificed Isaac;
  • Solomon’s Temple and the Second Temple of Herod;
  • Mohammed’s Night Journey to Heaven;
  • Al-Aqsa Mosque, one of Islam’s oldest and most sacred;
  • and Dome of the Rock, built over the spot from which it is said Mohammed ascended to Heaven on his Night Journey.

This unique day exploring both above and below the Old City continues with a visit to the Jerusalem Archeological Park (Davidson Center) to review what we have learned about this incredible city. Timelines and short films illustrate the various periods of history. Close by is the Western Wall, holiest site in Judaism where we absorb the significance of this place of Jewish worship, backed by the Muslim-controlled Temple Mount.

From the Wall, we descend into a tunnel that runs along the lowest courses of the Western Wall of Herod’s Temple. Our route takes us below the Muslim Quarter, adjacent to the spot in the Temple where the Holy of Holies had been.

Following a break for lunch, our walk of the day snakes through the Jewish Quarter then mounts the city walls at the Zion Gate. We find ourselves walking atop the ramparts, built in the 16th century by Ottoman sultan Suleiman the Magnificent and providing a bird’s eye view down into Old Jerusalem. Our trail descends the walls at the Jaffa Gate where you are free to walk back to our hotel or explore fascinating Old Jerusalem on your own.

Our first stop on our last day in Israel is the Israel Museum, often referred to as the Shrine of the Book for the Dead Sea Scrolls that are reverently displayed here. Following a massive renovation in recent years, the Israel Museum is world class and warrants several days of exploration.

This afternoon, we visit the Garden Tomb, an alternative site of the tomb and resurrection of Jesus just north of the city walls. The Garden Tomb complex contains a tomb from the period and, unlike the crowded and overly-decorated Church of the Holy Sepulcher, evokes a sense of the peace, power, and purpose we associate with of the resurrection of Jesus.

Early this evening, a farewell dinner prepares us for late evening flights to North America.

Our journey through the Holy Land is complete, but the impact of what we have experienced will linger.

Please make sure you understand the General Tour Conditions , including the cancellation terms. Once you have registered, your spot is secured. The closer we get to departure day, the harder it is to fill that spot should you change your mind. Cancellations received in writing 89 to 60 days before departure will receive a 50% refund. No refunds will be made on cancellations received less than 60 days before departure. No refunds will be made on any unused or cancelled services once the tour has commenced.

Keep in mind that if WAI cancels this tour, you will receive a full refund of your tour payments.

We strongly recommend travel insurance (see below).

With help from local experts and walking guides, these itineraries are crafted with extensive on-site planning by WAI tour planners.

When designing Classic Curated Tours, our objective is to capture the essence of a destination—the history, culture, and natural wonders unique to that part of the world. We then build activities and walks that take us inside these characteristics.

Yes, these tours are educational, but they are also interactive and immersive; walking gets us off the bus and penetrates local cultures to not only see, but also touch, smell, and feel these special spaces.

Along the way, interactions with locals amplify the experience by sharing insights into the magic of that particular location.

We generally walk at a pace of 2 to 3 miles per hour. Several walks on this trip are oriented more towards education, and therefore take longer due to stops for guide commentary. Nature walks, on the other hand, generally continue at a steadier pace because we’re stopping less to talk.

In most cases, we are not “strolling.” We are walking at a relaxed but steady pace. Your experience will be significantly affected by your level of physical fitness. If not walking regularly at home, we strongly recommend that you make a priority of “training” beforehand in order to both enjoy the trip and avoid medical issues due to overexertion. If you have questions about your ability to participate, please call our office at 1.360.260.9393.

We have adopted a walk difficulty rating system which contains a numeric indicator for trail incline and an alpha indicator for trail terrain. The explanation for this system is presented on the table below:

1. Minimal hills or stair climbing. Cumulative elevation gain: <200 feet. 2. Some moderate hills and stair climbing. Cumulative elevation gain: 200-1000 feet. 3. Some significant hill or stair climbing. Cumulative elevation gain: 1000-2000 feet.

A. Almost entirely on pavement. B. A significant part of the route is on well-groomed trails with very few obstacles. C. A significant part of the route is on somewhat difficult terrain (rocky / rooted paths or soft sand).

The official start and finish point for this Adventure is Tel Aviv’s Ben-Gurion International Airport (airport code TLV). More details about flight arrangements and travel agent contact information will be provided in an Adventure Advice PDF by email after you register for the Adventure.

Please do not book your airfare prior to receiving these flight details from us ! The Adventure Advice email outlines the timing of when to book your flights and how airport-hotel transfers will take place. You may also consider arriving into Israel early: WAI will help with booking one extra night for those who choose. Arriving early has several advantages, including participation in a complimentary, half-day optional walk to Joppa.

Once you receive the Adventure Advice email, we recommend that you contact Laura Pfahler, the travel agent we work with, to help book your flight arrangements. In this age of airfare complications and airport uncertainty, using a travel agent is a good investment!

  • Laura Pfahler: 503.434.6401 or  [email protected]

WAI believes strongly in the importance of travel insurance for financial and medical protection from any number of unforeseen circumstances that can arise before departure or during your Adventure. This is now especially true in the era of COVID-19, which is typically treated like any other illness for travel insurance purposes. Many travel insurance providers are available for you to consider. Laura Pfahler and Sharon Mitchell of World Travel Inc. are travel agents who provide air travel and insurance services to many WAI travelers.

  • Sharon Mitchell: 971.261.2091 or  [email protected]

Check out  Insurance Tips  from World Travel for a short introduction to travel insurance. (NOTE: WAI receives no commission or financial remuneration from World Travel Inc.).

As always, do some shopping to ensure you are getting the best value. Using the  SquareMouth.com  website can be a good way to compare pricing.

Other options include:

  • Travel Guard
  • Travel Insured International

NOTE: We suggest purchasing from a reputable, well-established insurance company (avoid buying insurance from an unknown company found only online). Travelers interested in purchasing “cancel for any reason” insurance coverage should be careful to check pricing and terms BEFORE they register for a tour. Recent changes in the international travel landscape has caused changes in the policies of some insurance companies, and made the purchase of this particular type of policy even more time-sensitive.

Walking Adventures International reserves the right to cancel this tour departure with fewer than 12 participants, in which case registered participants would receive a 100% refund of payments received. This refund policy contains one exclusion. Many suppliers require non-refundable deposits as a condition of booking services. Though it is rare, unforeseen circumstances can force us to cancel a tour. In cases where supplier’s non-refundable policies are imposed, WAI attempts to retrieve as much of these deposits as possible, but cannot guarantee a 100% refund. In cases where full refunds cannot be obtained for a cancelled tour, we will do our best to transfer unrefunded money as traveler credits to be applied to a future tour to that destination.

NOTE: When the 2022 Walking Israel was cancelled due to Omicron concerns, all participants received full refunds.

Walking Adventures International official policy is to mirror any COVID-19 policies in place in the destinations through which we travel (View our full Coronavirus Policy for more details.).

As of May 21, 2022, most COVID-19 related requirements and restrictions have been dropped. What is still required as of May 21 are the following:

  • Visitors must fill out an online Entry Statement on the website of the Israel Ministry of Health within 48 hours of arrival into Israel.
  • Visitors who become ill with COVID-19 while in Israel are required to isolate in a hotel for a maximum of 7 days at their own expense. The WAI in-country partner would help any travelers who need assistance with this process and with providing the official recovery letter required to board a homebound flight.
  • Visitors must obtain an insurance policy for their visit to Israel that covers COVID-19 related expenses. COVID-19 is covered like any other illness for purposes of travel insurance. Visitors should check with their insurance agent as to coverage for food and lodging expenditures (i.e. caused by quarantine requirements). Travel insurance that meets these requirements only, but does not provide coverage for any possible pre-trip cancellation (related to insurance covered events such as illness or injury of the traveler or close family member) or flight-related delays, may be available from Israeli sources at a lower cost. Our recommendation is to purchase full insurance coverage, but if you are interested in this limited coverage insurance, please contact us at [email protected]

Requirements that have been lifted include:

  • Proof of vaccination
  • Presentation of negative COVID-19 test before boarding a flight to Israel
  • PCR testing mandate for those entering Israel
  • Isolation for 24 hours upon entering Israel
  • Mask mandate aboard the flight to Israel
  • Mask mandates at the airport in Israel
  • Proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 1 day of departure to USA (USA requirement).

Requirements and restrictions continue to be fluid. WAI will update travelers upon learning of any changes.

Travelers participating in the Walking Israel 2023 tour must agree to abide by Israel policies in place at the time of travel.

The WAI philosophy of travel often clashes with certain aspects of modern journalism. The oxymoronic union between reporting and marketing has produced a “tabloid” mentality where “news” that stokes the emotions is often the unfortunate result.

Israel is admittedly the epicenter of conflict between Arabs and Jews, which has broadened to include non-Arab Muslims. Hard things have happened in this part of the world. Violence occurs. The violence that occurs in Israel, however, usually receives a disproportionate level of media attention relative to the impact of that violence on the region as a whole, or levels of violence that occur here in the USA, or in other reputedly peaceful cultures.

Many times during the past 30+ years of planning and leading Adventures, we have been in parts of the world that have less than hospitable reputations. Almost without fail, we’ve found that though life does not come with a money-back guarantee, and bad experiences do come our way from time to time, the feeling of fear generated by media reports bears little resemblance to what we actually experience in-country!

In regard to Israel, the odds of our being impacted by the Israeli-Palestinian conflict pales alongside everyday risks such as driving your car or falling in your home that we all instinctively factor into daily life choices without a second thought.

Our point? Though safety is always top of mind as we plan WAI tours, life is inherently uncertain, and we will not likely cancel our plans to visit Israel unless war is declared or significant, widespread violence makes it clear that we would be in danger.

NOTE: For a higher premium, you can purchase insurance that allows you to cancel “for any reason.” Check with your travel insurance provider for more details.

Upon registering for this Adventure, you will receive a welcome letter, initial invoice, and Adventure Advice email with important information about steps to take in the months before your trip. Please do not buy your airline tickets until you receive the Adventure Advice email .

The final payment for the program is due 90 days before departure, and you will receive a final billing about 3 weeks prior to that point.

About 3 weeks before departure, you will receive a final email packet with all the details of the program in PDF, including hotel names and contact information, a list of fellow travelers, and a more detailed schedule. You will also be invited to team meetings organized by WCC/BCC/HCC leadership to better prepare your heart and mind for this amazing experience.

For now, we suggest time in a quiet place to review the Israel 2023 program. Because the Holy Land of Israel is the birthplace of both Judaism and Christianity, it is the source of the Judeo-Christian ethic and has therefore always been an integral part of American culture. For Christians, Israel is the soil in which our faith heritage is rooted. In a sense, we are spiritual immigrants, faith children of Abraham, according to the Apostle Paul, returning to our homeland!

‘I’ve Never Seen Anything Like This’: Tennessee Church Sees 1,000 Baptisms in Less Than Four Months

The spark that ignites the flame isn’t always all that bright at first.

That has certainly been true for Robby Gallaty, the senior pastor of Long Hollow Baptist Church in Hendersonville, Tennessee, where 1,048 people have been baptized since Sunday, Dec. 20, following nearly a year of what Gallaty described as “silence and solitude” in his own life.

“Here’s what happened,” the pastor told Faithwire during a recent Zoom conversation, leaning into the camera after taking his glasses off. “I began sitting with the Lord for 10 months. Then, finally, Dec. 15, 2020, I’m on the porch, and I hear as clear as day these words in my head, after a season of silence and solitude: ‘Spontaneous baptism.’”

“I thought, ‘Spontaneous baptism?’” Gallaty said. “First of all, I had never done spontaneous baptism — I’d only been a Christian for 18 years at that time. I’d never seen spontaneous baptism. I’d heard of abuses of spontaneous baptism. But I was obedient.”

The following Sunday, the preacher recalled, was the lowest attended service in his five-year tenure at Long Hollow. The country was, after all, still in the throes of a pandemic and Tennessee was seeing a spike in COVID-19 infections at the time.

Gallaty said it felt as if everything was working against what he was confident God had so clearly instructed him to do.

“It was like all the water we could put on the offering,” he said, referring to the Old Testament story in 1 Kings 18, when Elijah  pours water on a sacrifice  in the midst of a drought so that, when it was consumed by fire, it was clear it was by God’s doing alone.

On that Sunday in mid-December, 99 people were baptized.

“I’d never seen anything like this before in my life,” the pastor said, adding he assumed that must have been the end of the “revival” he sought after, until he returned to his porch once again that night.

“The Lord gave me this visual,” he said, recalling sitting outside his house that Sunday evening. “He showed me, ‘These are the heavy raindrops, Robby, before the torrential downpour that’s coming.’”

Gallaty then reached out to his fellow ministry leaders at Long Hollow and, on the following Tuesday, just three days before Christmas, the church hosted a baptism-only service where another 81 people showed up.

It was at that point, the preacher said, that things “got really out of control.” People who had been watching Long Hollow online began traveling to the Hendersonville church and its two satellite campuses, even though Gallaty said he “never encouraged” anyone to board a plane to Tennessee.

Faithwire:  Migrants From ‘Across the Globe’ Now Flooding Southern Border: ‘It’s a Humanitarian Crisis’

Now, over the course of less than four months, Long Hollow has overseen the baptisms of more than 1,000 people from 15 different states, two of whom came all the way from Maine. Each of them have either been plugged into community groups at Long Hollow or have been encouraged to seek discipleship in their hometowns.

For context, Long Hollow baptized 162 people in 2018 and 222 in 2019.

“It’s a genuine pulling and tugging of the Holy Spirit,” the pastor explained.

Such a spiritual awakening, though, would not have been possible without the seemingly dull spark that eventually lit the flame.

The transformation taking place at Long Hollow is only possible, Gallaty admitted, because he has convicted to deal with the sin in his own life: pride, jealousy, and arrogance he said he wasn’t even aware had taken up residence in his heart.

Left unchecked, though, “jealousy in the pastoral ministry becomes one of the greatest sins we all suffer with.”

“I went to the porch every night to sit with the Lord, thinking that He was going to fix the problems in my church,” the preacher told Faithwire. “I was really frustrated. … I said, ‘Lord, you fix the problems in my staff. I need you to fix the problems in my church. I need you to fix the deacons. I need you to fix the country.’ And here’s what the Lord showed me. About two months in, God showed me, ‘The problem is not with your church. It’s not with your staff. The problem is  you . You’re the problem.’”

Later on in the interview, Gallaty spoke directly to his fellow pastors.

“The reason that you’re not seeing a mighty move of God in your church may be because you’re the blood clot,” he said. “And I say that from experience. You may be the problem to why God’s not moving.”

Gallaty, currently preaching  a sermon series  on the Holy Spirit, said his recent journey with the Lord has also given him a richer and deeper understanding of prayer.

He described prayer as “the wood stacking for the fire that burns on the weekend,” referring to corporate worship on Sundays.

“I’m convinced prayer births revival and revival births prayer,” Gallaty said.

But for so many believers — both new and old — prayer is a difficult thing, a practice that, for various reasons, feels, at times, so mystifying and confounding.

It shouldn’t be that way, though.

“When people say to me, ‘I don’t know how to pray,’ [or], ‘I can’t pray,’ [I tell them], ‘Well, if you know how to talk to people, you know how to talk to God,’” Gallaty said. “Prayer is simply a dialogue. For some of us, the dialogue is one-sided, so most of our prayer time with God is a laundry list of ideas for God to rubber-stamp in order for me to be blessed.”

Faithwire:  ‘They Can Take Our Facility, But We’ll Just Find Another One’: Pastor Coates Leads GraceLife Church From Secret Location

“For most of us, our prayer life is a lecture, and that’s why, for you, it has been boring and mundane and routine,” he added.

While there are times in prayer when it is a dialogue — and there are certainly instances when it feels like a monologue on our part — Gallaty said there are also moments of complete silence on both sides.

He equated those instances to when he and his wife, Kandi, take the 20-minute drive into Nashville. Sometimes, the minister said, he and his wife don’t talk at all. Instead, they just enjoy being together.

“There are times when we take that 20-minute drive, and we don’t have to talk,” Gallaty said. “We just sit in the car together, and here’s what it is: we’re just enjoying one another’s presence and just being in her presence is enough for me.”

“We need to get out of this Western reciprocity mindset of, ‘God if I do this, you do this,’” he continued. “That doesn’t work with silence and solitude.”

And it was out of that “silence and solitude,” after all, that came revival at Long Hollow.
