Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority

Metrorail and metrobus are the safest, cleanest and most efficient ways to get around washington.

Metrorail and Metrobus are the safest, cleanest and most efficient ways to get around Washington. Five rail lines and extensive bus service connect Washington, DC with Maryland and Virginia suburbs. Train lines are named for colors: red, yellow, blue, green, and orange. Station entrances are marked by brown pylons, capped with the letter M and colored stripes indicate which lines are available in that station. Metrorail route maps are posted in each station and inside each subway car. Metro opens at 5 am, Mon. - Fri. and 7 am. on Sat. and Sun. Metro closes at midnight Sun. - Thur. and 3 am Fri. and Sat. Base subway fare is $1.95 and increases during rush hours and for longer trips. Rail farecards are inserted into the turnstile gates to enter and exit subway platforms. The fare is automatically deducted each time you exit a station. For an interactive trip planner for bus and rail, use The Trip Planner on the website at MetroOpensDoors.com or call customer information at (202) 637-7000. For advance farecard purchases, convention passes, group sales call (202) 962-5700, 202-962-5716 or 202-962-5722. Farecards may be purchased from vending machines in all Metrorail stations.

This app was my lifesaver while exploring DC solo. I took the Metro a lot of places because of the ease of it and with this app I knew exactly where I needed to go, where to transfer, and how long it would take me, even if it was across the city. It did require time to already know the Metro stops near my destinations, but those were just a quick google search away. I love this app and will continue to use it if I’m ever in the DC area again!

Too slow to load

I feel like this is an app that doesn’t entirely understand the need it’s supposed to fill. Some apps need to be able to perform a large number of computations at once. It’s understandable that these apps would take a while to load. This app, though, isn’t one of them. Essentially, all it needs to do is display a single image file showing a map. It’s users include people who are in a rush, who just got to the metro station and need to *quickly* figure out where they’re going. Tor them, it needs to load instantaneously. For them, the five to ten seconds this thing takes to load feels like an eternity. It isn’t worth whatever features cause it to take so long to load.

Awesome staff

Some of the friendliest people I have met in DC work for the metro. As tourists, my daughter and I, have felt lost but these people were always ready to answer any question with a smile and overall cheerfulness. No words are adequate to tell you how wonderful I believe your employees are

Upcoming and on-demand webinars, washington metro debuts new website.

December 4, 2008 • Metro Magazine Staff • Bookmark +

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) has comprehensively redesigned its Website, MetroOpensDoors.com , to give riders, businesses and visitors effortless access to online information about Metrorail, Metrobus and MetroAccess service.

The new layout enables users to find information quickly. For example, all online tools such as the Trip Planner, savings calculator and real time arrivals can be found under the “Rider Tool” section and all information about fares, Metrorail, Metrobus, parking, SmarTrip, reduced prices for senior citizens and people with disabilities, and how to purchase, is now grouped under the “Fares” tab.

A new feature on the home page is a rotating headline and eye-catching graphic at the center of the page that highlights important topics of the day. Rail system information also has been enhanced to provide more immediate rider information and more interactivity.
