Big Five Luxury Safari in Tanzania **Sustainable Approach to Travel Tour

Big Five Luxury Safari in Tanzania **Sustainable Approach to Travel

The tour was very well organized. Everything worked up quite well and everyone took good care of us. It was a magnificent time in Tanzania's wild nature. Also the tour company took care of all changes online (one day early arrival and extra shira tour booking) in a flexible and timely manner. Our Safari guide and driver Israel did really a great job. He worked hard to find all the animals for us as good as possible. This wasn't an easy job as we were there during rain season. He kept us safe and well informed all the time. We saw many wild animals such as cheetahs, lions, giraffes, buffalos, elephants, hippos, hyenas and of course tons of Gnus, zebras and all kinds of antilopes, monkeys and birds. We could even see some of the big five like the lion from eye to eye, roaming around less than 1m from our vehicle! Of course there's no guaranty of which wild animals you'll see as we're talking about natural parks, but you can rest assured the guides are doing their best to show you what nature is offering during your visit. All the staff in the hotels, parks and people in general were very kind and very welcoming! The food was always good and safe. FYI, the actual safari is 5 days + 2 days arrival and departure. Nevertheless within these 5 days we saw so many places and had a unique nature experience. "Luxury" as mentioned in the title is a bit too much said, especially when it comes to accommodation. On the other hand all the hotel names/ratings and the exact itinerary were mentioned clearly so no surprises. The luxurious part was actually that we were only on our own since it's low season :) Our guide Israel was flexible and fulfilled every possible wish we had. The Maasai village tour in the way to Serengeti costs an extra 50$ which is a fair price but they will also offer you some overpriced hand-made souvenirs to buy. The tour itself was very interesting and nice including a welcome song and dance basically from the whole village :) The Serengeti Safari lounge was quite spacious and had a big balcony to enjoy the endless view of the Serengeti. That was definitely the best accommodation of the trip. We woke up to a great show of a huge group of Gnus and Zebras directly in front of our balcony. The very ones who were singing for us all night :) Last but not least: if you're wondering about the prices even for a day tour, you should know that the park fees including conservation fees are quite high. So you're basically contributing to the well-being of these parks as well as the many wonderful people protecting them.

I had a fantastic time in Kenya! It was a well organised tour, everything went smoothly. The itinerary contained everything I wanted! Actually, it was more than I expected! Thank you!

Cape Town to the Serengeti: Deserts & Wilderness Tour

Cape Town to the Serengeti: Deserts & Wilderness

Enjoyed the trip, saw lots of different animals, history and culture. Spent a lot of the time driving but the variety of game drives and optional activities created a good balance. The 2 groups I was a part of were great people and good company. The meals however were poor, felt our guide didn't try his best, majority of meals were cheap and our meal allowances were equivalent to $2-3 when given to eat on our long drives. He definitely could of done better with options especially after several comments and suggestions from our group. I didn't feel the food we got was anywhere the price I paid for the trip. Breakfasts consisted of cornflakes, weetabix, fruit and occasional yoghurt which was hidden and rationed along with museli. There were some days closer to the end where we got eggs, sausage and pancakes. Some individuals didn't even eat much overall because there wasn't much selection. Lunches consisted of processed meat sandwiches, apples and bananas for the most part. Dinners were rice, pasta, some vegetables and bread. The meat options were fine and more catered to I found. Unfortunately I felt that our guide wasn't organized with activities either, left everything to the last minute. He became more involved and active on the 2nd half of our journey with the group, for the first half he was a little reserved. Our driver was amazing and very accommodating and friendly. I would definetely do another G trip but would like to have a more outgoing and accommodating guide.

14-day Kruger to the Delta, Chobe & Victoria Falls (Accommodated) Tour

14-day Kruger to the Delta, Chobe & Victoria Falls (Accommodated)

Extremely emotional experience, full of colors and rich impressions. Our guide was very radiant and responsive, able to cope with difficult situations, responsible and at the same time entertaining throughout the journey. Overall, the organization was on the right level, but the small issues and inconveniences do not frighten me.

8 days: Best of Zambia, Botswana (Chobe) and Zimbabwe (Zambezi) Wildlife Safari Tour Tour

8 days: Best of Zambia, Botswana (Chobe) and Zimbabwe (Zambezi) Wildlife Safari Tour

The trip delivers what the title promises. The best of three countries in one package. Mark and his team took great care of their guests at all times and, together with their local partners, ensured a smooth vacation. In particular, the rhino safari in Zambia and the Chobe National Park in Botswana are a fantastic experience. Just like being able to see the Victoria Falls from both sides. The logistics of the numerous border crossings are fully supported and can therefore be completed without any worries (with appropriate preparation, depending on nationality). In my opinion, there is only room for improvement in the accommodation in Zimbabwe. The chosen lodge is in a solid condition, but the rooms (sanitary facilities, no air conditioning) show the passing decades. The food, on the other hand, is excellent and sumptuous! Despite the small drawback, an absolutely recommendable trip to experience the highlights of the three countries!

12-day Delta, Chobe & Victoria Falls (Accommodated) Tour

12-day Delta, Chobe & Victoria Falls (Accommodated)

Great tour, well organised, very knowledgeable and friendly guide. 2 suggestions: - please add safari pass amount to overall tour fee and make payable upfront. It’s safer not to carry lots of cash. Also guide does not need all this cash as most fees can be paid by credit card. - tipping is expected on most activities. It’s often difficult to figure out the right amount even with the help of the guide. Suggest to make the guide tip on behalf of the group taking the money from the safari pass or ask everybody to pay a small amount upfront (e.g. USD 10) to the guide.

10 Days Uganda's Gorillas Encounter, Wildlife & Kigali City Tour ( Private tour)

It was a breathtaking trip. We enjoyed every moment. We slept in the most beautiful locations. The gorilla walk was very heavy but it was more than worth it (recommended!!!). We have had the time of our lives. The elderly enjoyed it just as much as the people in their twenties. It is a wonderful journey for everyone. This organization is professional and definitely recommended for your trip to Uganda and Rwanda. We enjoyed our vacation very hard and and we would like to thank Mukisa Safaris Uganda for this.

16 Days of Intensive Adventurous Safari through Magical Uganda and Rwanda ( Private tour)

At the beginning of December 2018 we decided to make an East-Africa-Trip and bought flight tickets to Entebbe via Addis Ababa and Zanzibar. We had the challenge to organize our trip to Ethiopia (7 days), Zanzibar (5 days) and to Uganda (16 days) in only 2 weeks before departure. Fortunately I discovered the website www.safaribookings.com which enabled us to get offers from three tour operators in Uganda whithin 24 hours. Thanks a lot for this really good service. Biggest thanks to Mukisa Safaris with Richard who made all our dreams come true. He fullfilled all our whishes and modificatiins in case of planning the 16-days-route and also to include a five-day-trek to the awesome Rwenzori Mountains. Every requests were answered promptly with good guidance. At the Entebbe-Airport we were really warm welcomed by our two guides Joane and John and all of the Mukisa-Members. Then we started directly our trip with our 4x4 Toyota Van across the country to Kidepo Valley NP, to Murchison Falls NP, to Rwenzori Mountains and finally via Queen Elizabeth NP to the unforgettable Bwindi Impenetrable NP. Thank Joan and John we had a lot of fun, learned a lot about nature, have seen all the great nature and animals and people, we felt very safe and had most of the time a good wlan-collection. :) The accomodations at lodges or tented lodges were clean, nice and comfortable, the meals also were fine and delicious. Uganda is characterized by a very big variety of beautiful landscapes, unbelievable nature and very friendly people. From the awesome Rwenzori Mountains, to the great Bwindi Rainforest, from animals at river Nile to remote Kidepo Valley. We loved it very much. So thank you so much Mukisa Safaris for this unforgettable yourney with deep impressions and long lasting memories. We wish you all the best, Joan, John and Richard.

  • Expect the unexpected! No two safaris are the same, and that’s part of the adventure. Your guides are experts at tracking the animals in every area, but which animals you see, when, and what they’re up to is as wild as the savanna itself. You might come across lions enjoying a zebra carcass or antelope galloping across the plains. It’s even possible that your best shot at seeing these animals is right around your camp or lodge.
  • What’s a game drive? A safari game drive is when you go out in a vehicle in search of the animals in their most natural habitat. The vehicles are often 4x4 drive open-air vehicles and get as close as safely possible to the animals so that you can see them in all their wild majesty.
  • Game drives are not off-roading adventures – In order to preserve the habitats, the game drives stick to the established trails and routes rather than just crossing the plains at random, but these trails were established by the experts to maximize the opportunities to see wildlife on your game drive. These drives tend to be leisurely, allowing the best chance to take in the surrounding environment and hopefully spot some amazing wildlife.
  • Game drives generally take place in the cool morning or late afternoon – remember, the best way to see the animals of the safari in action is to follow their behavior, and they tend to be most active when the sun isn’t as high in the sky.
  • The length of a game drive is generally around 3 or 4 hours , but this varies based on what your guide feels is the best way to track the animals.
  • Alternatives to game drives on a safari vacation might include an aerial tour in a hot air balloon, mountain biking and horseback riding, hikes, a river cruise to see the animals via the water, or a nighttime game drive that shows off the nocturnal wildlife of Africa.
  • The atmosphere of a safari vacation is relaxed but immersive . Imagine being literally inside your favorite Animal Planet documentary. Your itinerary won’t be jam-packed with things to do, but the marvels of simply looking out your window to a giraffe grazing in a nearby tree or seeing an elephant passing casually by the lodge is an unforgettable experience.
  • The safari experience changes based on the season – in each region, the dry and wet seasons bring with them different wildlife behaviors and habits and even migrations, so if there is an animal you know you want to see, let us know so we can recommend the best time to travel.
  • Safari vacations usually combine multiple wildlife reserves , from national parks to private game concessions. Getting from one camp to the next might include a long drive through the plains or a scenic flight on an 8-passenger propeller plane.

  • While you are in major cities, you will likely have access to ATMs that work with most major international credit cards (local bank cards will probably not work). You should expect a marginal international transaction fee.
  • Cash can be used for anything you’ll need while on the safari itself, especially in the bush.
  • You can exchange your money most easily at the international airports upon arrival or at a bank with presentation of your passport if necessary.
  • Avoid paying with travelers checks. These are not accepted in most places, so it’s safer to just stick with your card.

Review ★★★★★

“It’s really a good spot to bring your family for a day. My kids loved it. The spacing is good enough that you can walk around, but there are shuttles. Beware you can’t bring food in, even snacks for your kids. I guess they think you might feed the food to the animals. They have a food restaurants strategically along the pathway. So be sure to bring some cash with you incase you get hungry or thirsty, which you will.”

– Tony Stanyer

“Money well spent! The place is well-maintained, staff are nice and there are lots of cool animals to see! Everyone should consider this as part of the itinerary when they visit Cebu.”

– Keith Laganao

“The park may be far from the city, but the experience is worth it. It is designed beautifully, very organized, and clean. The landscape is so awesome. There are so many restaurants placed in strategic locations. The staffs are professional and very friendly. Experiencing the place will be an experience of a lifetime.”

– Mark & Maolyn Diongco

“We had great experience with nature here. Seeing the animal’s habitat and had some facts along the ways is a good way of knowing them. Had witnessed the birdshow and its fantastic. I wanna go back here next year.”

– Christian Philip

“To enjoy and appreciate this park fully get a tour guide. You won’t regret it”

– Edwin Grajo

“I was really amazed by the enormity of the venue. The animals are well maintained and the variety is amazing. Even though, it is lacking some animal shows, like in Singapore or Hong Kong, but I was assured that it is coming. The orchids garden is also attractive with so many species.”

– James Rockwell

“Want a safari adventure? Then this is the place to go. With so many animals to view, lions, zebras, orangutans and many more. They also have a flower garden, orchid garden, bird show and many more. Don’t worry about the food, they have plenty of restaurants. Now, they have new adventure rides, like the zipline, sky bicycle and the ATV trail ride.”

– Joel Borga

This is one of the best zoos in the world! I’m amazed and impressed by the quality of the place and the health of the animals. Such a rare jewel in the Philippines. I’d say this is a must see if you’re visiting Cebu and have had your fill of beach days.

– Marcy Babor

“Truly worth the travel and worth the pay! Everything was in proper order and I so love the place and the animals of course I love how me and my family enjoyed our trip here! “

– Ebeb Gen

As a Canadian who has been to many zoos in the world (Toronto metro zoo, Canada, Artis in the Netherlands, Berlin zoo, Germany to name a few ) Cebu Safari & Adventure Park ranks up there with the best of them. I’ve been there twice and will be going back again. Beautiful zoo and gardens. Do yourself a favor and just GO!!!

Just want to commend the management. It was a beautiful experience for the entire family. To start with, you have courteous employees in the field, and they seem to love their job. The animals are healthy and looks well fed. It was indeed beyond our expectation. Looking forward to more animals and more activities and events ahead. Happy New Year!

In fairness, the safety and hygiene protocols as well as the service at the Cebu Safari were impressive.

Even if it’s not my first time, the park always offers a unique experience bcoz I never know what the “residents” will be doing…Sometimes they show up, other times not; some put on a show, others sit still like statues (haha)..I don’t get tired of looking at the giraffes feeding… or the birds preening… I wonder where the camels are at, and why the snakes have taken a back stage. I just wish there were more educational talks, even recorded ones…Oh well, but I do love the place so much! Thanks!

We really enjoy touring the whole Cebu Safari…Despite the Pandemic we had given the chance to visit the most amazing place in our neighboring town…All the staff are very accommodating…All of us had enjoy especially the kids…I would definitely recommend this place as one of the best place to visit…???

Service was impeccable. Kudos to their staffs especially at the camp area and reception. The place was also amazingly clean. Old and young can come together and enjoy mother nature at its fullest.

Staff – 10/10 customer service Place – 10/10 Stuff to learn – 10/10 The fauna – well managed and well treated The flora – superb! Salute to the landscape work Experience – awesome

We are definitely coming back and will tag along more people with us

Whether you love camping or you’re just looking at keeping the price of your safari down, I highly recommend a Kenya camping safari. A good operator will provide a comfortable camping setup and sumptuous food. With a great crew, you’ll be able to enjoy the fun part of camping without the hassle. There is no better way to end a day in the bush than sitting around a fire under the stars, recounting the highlights of your day. You’ll hear lots of animals at night; a pack of hyenas laughing, the distant roar of a male lion or the repetitive whistle of a nightjar. Even more exciting is the possibility of seeing small nocturnal animals. Both bush babies and spotted genets easily habituate to humans in campsites.

6 Questions About Kenya Camping Safaris

Ariadne van Zandbergen

Answered by

Ariadne van zandbergen.

safari adventure camp & tour

What are the pros and cons of a camping safari in Kenya?

“Although there are a lot of accommodation options in Kenya ranging from budget hotels to luxury lodges, you might want to consider a camping safari. If you love camping and it’s something you regularly do, you can’t go wrong. But even if you haven’t camped and it’s not usually how you like to spend your holiday, you might still want to look at the pros and cons of a camping safari. Firstly, it’s the obvious way to keep down costs, as the lodges inside the parks are far more expensive than campsites. And while good budget accommodation can sometimes be found outside the park boundaries, there are real benefits to staying inside the park, close to the wildlife action. The campsites inside the parks and reserves are often in great locations with a view, close to good wildlife-viewing circuits. When you go on a camping safari in Kenya, your operator will provide all the gear and food, so you won’t have to worry about anything really. While some camping tours require some input from you, you won’t have to lift a finger on others. Many reputable operators offer very nice setups. You might be pleasantly surprised by the comfort level, food and general facilities. On the other hand, if you prefer solid walls around you at night, and the idea of sitting out around a fire doesn’t appeal, a camping tour is probably not for you. And while camping is a great adventure, setting up and breaking down camp at each location can eat up time that could be spent differently on a lodge safari. ”

What facilities can I expect to find in the campsites?

“The public campsites in Kenya’s national parks and reserves have basic facilities including running water, toilets and bathrooms. There might also be a kitchen area or open huts for cooking. Some operators use ‘Special campsites’, which are booked on an exclusive basis for one group only. These campsites are often in beautiful locations, but they have no facilities whatsoever. The operator provides everything. There are usually also private campsites outside the parks with good facilities. Campsites located on hotel grounds might have access to a bar, restaurant and possibly other hotel facilities, such as a swimming pool. Unless you are traveling independently, your tour operator will provide all camping equipment and will make sure your stay is comfortable. ”

How much will this safari cost?

“Prices start at about US$100 per person per day, but it is difficult to put an actual figure on the cost of camping safari packages as there are a lot of variables. There are different levels of camping and to some extent you get what you pay for. It’s worth paying a bit more to travel with a reputable outfitter that provides good-sized tents, comfortable mattresses and overall quality gear. You might have to participate in some of the camping chores on some tours, but on other tours, the staff will take care of everything, including cooking hearty meals. A camping safari is not only fun and rewarding, it’s also an easy way to reduce the cost. Group tours are usually cheaper than private tours, especially for single travelers. And then there is a small difference in price depending on the season you want to travel in. It makes sense to get a few quotes before making a final decision. ”

Is it possible to do a trip in Kenya where only some nights are spent camping?

“It is possible to do a mixed safari, where you spent some nights camping and some nights in the comfort of a guesthouse, lodge or hotel. In fact, many camping safaris start with a night in a hotel. This gives you a chance to rest after your international flight, and to prepare for an early departure the next day. For similar reasons the last night of a camping safari is also often spent in a hotel. Some other camping safaris offer a few more nights in alternative accommodation. This is mostly because of logistical reasons. An operator might use a budget hotel on a 1-night stop, but opt for camping when staying a couple of nights inside one of the parks or reserves. This offers a nice compromise if you would like to experience some camping in the bush, but not throughout the trip.”

Is a self-drive camping safari in Kenya recommended?

“If you like to travel independently, you can certainly consider a self-drive camping safari in Kenya. The best way to do this is to book with an outfitter specializing in self-drive safaris. They will set you up with a sturdy 4x4 and camping equipment. You’ll have the choice between a ground tent and a roof-top tent (depending on the outfitter and the rental car). Make sure to check with your operator what is and isn’t included with the gear. You might be able to hire an electrical fridge as well. Although a reputable operator will offer 24/7 roadside assistance, you should at least be competent to change a tire. Depending to some extent on your itinerary, a little experience in 4x4 driving is recommended too. If you love total freedom and a sense of adventure, a self-drive camping safari in Kenya might be a dream come true. But I wouldn’t recommend embarking on this kind of trip unless you are an experienced traveler with a flexible attitude. With no local guide on your side, you should be prepared for things to go wrong occasionally. It’s all part of the adventure. ”

Is a camping trip in Kenya safe?

“A camping safari in Kenya is very safe. Crime is virtually unheard of in any of the established parks and reserves. Furthermore, your guide will look out for your safety at all times. Note, however, that campsites are usually unfenced, which means that animals can walk through freely. Human presence mostly keeps wildlife out during the day. But at night, after everybody has gone to bed, predators and other wildlife might well pass through camp. It is safe to stay in a tent with wild animals around, so long as you adhere to a few sensible precautions. You will be briefed on how to behave accordingly. The biggest problems in campsites are usually monkeys and baboons. These intelligent creatures learn how to open tents, boxes etc. As a general rule, you shouldn’t keep any food inside your tent (especially meat or strong-smelling fruits such as oranges), which might interest predators or elephants. ”
