Riding a Segway was a bucket list item for me. When I got to do it a few years ago I couldn't wait to share it with my family. We took a two hour tour today and it was great! Ben was a great teacher and had us all (Mom, two teens) riding in no time. We had a great tour and got to see notable landmarks. For me it was the ride and bonding with my younger son over the experience. We had a blast riding the Segways. I highly recommend, 10/10, would do it again!

Photo of KC M.

We had a blast and Teddy was great! This is a "must do" and great way to familiarize yourself with downtown Asheville. Thank you!

Photo of Michael G.

Our guide Scott was awesome! To start with, he was very patient with us 1st timers on a Segway. Which takes some getting used to but no harder than learning to ride a bike. Again, Scott was awesome. Once we all (6 people) got to where we felt comfortable he lead us out on the tours. Saw and learned more about Asheville in the 1.5 hour tour then we would of found in a dozen visits. Not only did Scott tell us about the historical part of the town but all about the local places to go that we some of his favorites. It was well worth the money.

Three of us took this Segway tour and it was a really fun, unique experience. The price with tax was right at $200 not including the tip. We had such a great time exploring the city of Asheville and playing tourist. None of us had ever been on a Segway and we were happy for the time spent to make sure we were comfortable before heading out on the tour. They have a limit of 6 people per tour so it's a nice group and you can hear everything the guides have to say. I would highly recommend this as a great place to start on your visit to Asheville. You get to know the city, get recommendations for what else to do and where to eat for the rest of your trip and it's just a really fun way to start off your vacation!

This was a fun filled tour. Loved our tour guild Ben Rader. I highly recommend the city tour.

Photo of Bill O.

Teddy did a fantastic job teaching us how to ride the Segway. It was a fascinating tour and he kept us safe and showed us some really neat spots in downtown Asheville. I was a little bit hesitant to do a Segway tour but it's definitely worth it.

Photo of Todd A.

We had a two hour tour of the city. Macon was a fun, knowledgeable guide. We wish we had done the tour at the beginning of our trip to learn about all of the cool places we missed during our visit. Just fun!

What a blast we had with Wes rolling through Asheville on a Saturday afternoon. The weather was just perfect and our tour guide was top notch. We had been on a Segway Tour before but it had been a while so we needed a little refresher. Wes made sure we felt comfortable before we took off. We took a couple laps around the parking lot at the Asheville Visitor Center where the tour meets/begins. After getting our training in, Wes started out by taking us through the old historic area of Montford. The older homes built back before the Great Depression by the same builders of the Biltmore house were massive and beautiful. The detail in the architecture was amazing. We drove on the Reed Creek Greenway on our way to downtown. Downtown was busy with many people out and about. A couple festivals going on. Wes took several, much appreciated breaks, to give us a chance to stretch our legs and give us some historical facts about the places we were driving around. The tour was well over 2+ hours and a great value for the price you pay. We would highly recommend Moving Sidewalk Tour to anyone looking for a fun way to see the town and cover a lot of ground in a short period of time.

I'd never been on a segway before going on this tour. I have to say, for anyone who has wanted to do one of these tours but was hesitant about it, it's incredibly easy and you pick it up in just a few minutes. The guide takes a lot of time making sure you're comfortable riding it, and I have to say that it was so easy that his efforts to train felt like overkill (but I'd rather have too much practice than too little!). By the end of the training, I was very comfortable on it and was itching to get to the tour. The guide (Wes) was incredibly nice and informative. The tour itself was fine, and you cover quite a lot of ground. The single criticism I might offer is that though I know segways are not cheap to buy or maintain, the price point of the tour feels a little high. All in all, though, it was a very enjoyable experience.

We had our second experience with Moving Sidewalk the other day. Our first was a couple of years ago. Wes is the best guide. Since we had already done the "downtown tour", he asked if we would like to go elsewhere this time and we took him up on it. Good choice! we avoided all the tourists (like us), all the traffic, lights, honking and sirens - we ended up in cook, shady, deserted areas away from the city center. A few of our group were over 70 (one is 87!), and he did an altered course for them (not as many steep hills), then later took the regular middle-aged folks on a longer tour with great zigzag down hill paved walkways that were "made" for Segwaying He's a good conversationalist and we laughed and talked the whole time, while zipping through a beautiful park and the quiet streets of Montford. He made sure we took breaks every once in awhile to walk off any cramping that may occur due to standing in the same position. He told us little vignettes about what we were zipping by. I've lived here for years and saw some areas, like the Community Gardens, the Green-way near UNCA, and Riverside Cemetery that I had never seen or known about before. Wes was also very kind and understanding about a health issue that came up minutes before the tour which ended up being a cancellation. We still paid him for that spot, of course, but he didn't show at all that it bothered him. I can't recommend this tour enough. If you're visiting Asheville, this is "the WAY" to see it. (See what I did there? ;-)

⭐️  RATING:  5/5 Stars | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH:  1.75 hours | ✅  Book it!

This interesting Asheville walking tour is a great way to get a behind-the-scenes look at this beautiful city.

My tour was led by Tebbe and he taught us so much about Asheville’s rich history, culture, and architecture.

A few of the popular sites that we visited were Pack Square, the Thomas Wolfe House, S&W Cafeteria, and the Grove Arcade.

Tebbe was such an animated storyteller and so knowledgeable about Asheville’s past. On this tour, you’ll get a great overview of Asheville’s history as well as a peek into the life of Thomas Wolfe and his family.

Find out why Asheville struggled so much after the Depression, learn about prominent figures and architects in Asheville’s history, and find out more about the historically Black neighborhood known as The Block.

This is one of the best walking tours in Asheville ! I grabbed a drink and pastry from Old Europe pastries before meeting up with our group. It’s a great little Asheville coffee shop , so I highly recommend it.

I saw parts of town that I’ve never seen and learned the history of how this town came to be!” – Monica (Read more reviews)

4. The Downtown Tour with Asheville Food Tours

Chocolate bonbons in a package from the Chocolate Fetish in Asheville.

⭐️  RATING:  5/5 Stars | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH:   hours | ✅  Book it!

I actually went on this tour when I was in Asheville for my bachelorette party and my friends and I had the best time!

The downtown tour will take you to six or seven different restaurants and food shops where you’ll get samples at each spot. I try to take food tours whenever I visit somewhere new and this one provided the most food for the price by far.

Make sure you pace yourself though! It’s a lot to eat. 😅

The guide is also a local so they are very knowledgeable about the city and the food scene here.

They also have a brunch tour which I recently went on. It was also neat, but the food was way more geared toward lunch than breakfast.

“Aimee was our most excellent food guru and guide. A great balance of quick bites and short “sit downs” sprinkled with Asheville history made for a wonderfully educational gastronomic adventure. Aimee got the food/beverage tempo just right. Highly recommend!” – Julie (Read more reviews)

5. Asheville Night-Time Walking Ghost Tour

Large church with stained glass windows lit up at night. Hear about the hauntings on a ghost tour in Asheville.

⭐️  RATING:  4.5/5 Stars | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH:  2 hours | ✅  Book it!

If you’re interested in Asheville’s haunted history, this entertaining ghost tour is for you. You’ll explore the city’s major landmarks while hearing stories of paranormal activity that have taken place over the years.

The engaging guides will tell you all about some of the city’s most famous hauntings like the woman at the Grove Park Inn.

Whether you’re a believer in the supernatural or just curious about local legends, this is a great way to get to know Asheville in a unique and unforgettable way.

Note that there are long inclines with some steep sections on this tour so keep that in mind, but this is one of the best Asheville ghost tours !

“I’m a huge ghost nerd and have been on many ghost tours — Tad’s tour was by far one of my favorite. I appreciate that Tad is a historian and anthropologist first and a performer second. A lot of ghost tours are overly gimmicky with guides who would rather be actors. This was the perfect combo of history and ghost stories. A great way to get to know Asheville!” – Kiley (Read more reviews)

6. Downtown Asheville Guided Brewery Tour

segway tours asheville nc

⭐️  RATING:  5/5 Stars | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH:  3.25 hours | ✅  Book it!

The Downtown Brewery Tour is perfect for beer lovers as you get to hit a few of the underrated breweries on the South Slope!

My tour guide Mark, also known as Party Grandpa, knew so much about the history of beer, the different types and styles, and the brewing process.

Our first stop was Catawba Brewing where we learned about a lot of the history of beer and some of the ingredients.

Then we went to Twin Leaf where we got to see the brewing equipment and hear about the process. Our final stop was Green Man Brewing.

At each spot we got to try three different samples and there was a great variety from IPAs to stouts and even a sour.

This is a great way to learn more about beer and the Asheville brewery scene!

“Would recommend this tour to anyone. It was amazing and I learned so much about beer I never would have imagined. The history was really cool and the guide was absolutely amazing. I would take this tour again and again.” – Erin (Read more reviews)

15. Floating Bar Crawl Tour

The French Broad River lined with lush, green trees.

⭐️  RATING:  4.5/5 Stars | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH:  4 hours | ✅  Book it!

Breweries and the outdoors are two of the best things about Asheville, so why not take a tour that combines both?

This is a bit different than your typical pub crawl as you’ll make your way down the river floating on a raft and make a few stops along the bank at some local watering holes.

Make sure you wear water shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty because a few areas of the bank are very steep! You’ll also need to coordinate transportation back to your car after the tour ends as it isn’t provided.

This is a super fun way to hit some of the underrated breweries in Asheville though!

Blue Ridge Parkway where it curves around the mountainside with a mountain view in the background. See this on a jeep tour from Asheville!

This tour in Asheville is an amazing way to take in the breathtaking mountain views without having to drive yourself. Take it from me, when driving the Parkway it’s hard to enjoy the views when you have to focus on the winding road.

You’ll get to ride in the back of a converted jeep with clear screens which provide an unobstructed view of the surrounding forest.

The tour groups are limited by the size of the jeep so they are small making the experience more enjoyable. You’ll make multiple stops at the scenic overlooks meaning plenty of time for photos!
