Your guide will pick you up in your own private Hummer, and your tour will commence. From history-buffs to adventure-seekers, this tour has an option that will appeal to every type of personality! During checkout, you will be asked to select your top five interests. These requests will help your private guide to design a tailored itinerary that can be modified at any time. Some tour options may include the following: City tour of Ketchikan - Travel through the back streets, experience the history of Ketchikan, and see the city highlights! Rainforest/beach walk - Enjoy a hike through the rainforest, leading to one of Ketchikan's majestic beaches. Potlatch Park - A locally owned totem park with poles carved by an Alaskan carver, a clan house, and access to one of Ketchikan's shorelines. Totem Bight State Park - World famous state park with a unique totem circle and clan house. Ward Creek Trail - Keep your eyes peeled for Alaskan wildlife as you stroll through the Tongass National Rainforest. Lunch Creek Trail - Hike past a beautiful creek through the rainforest on a scenic Alaskan trail. Herring Cove - Catch a glimpse of some seasonal wildlife in this cove, which is a mixture of seawater and freshwater. Beaver Falls - Photograph the gorgeous waterfall just south of Ketchikan on a mountainside. Saxman Native Village and Totem Park - Experience the world's largest collection of authentic totem poles. Southeast Alaska Discovery Center - Learn about Alaska's wilderness areas, resources, wildlife, and culture. Totem Heritage Center - Learn about Alaskan Native culture and observe a collection of preserved totems from all over Southeast Alaska. You will have a knowledgeable and personable guide to show you around Alaska's first city. Custom stops can be decided at any point during the tour and could include just about anything on the island. In case of wildlife sighting, binoculars are included with the tour. If you would like your hummer to pick you up at a specific location in Ketchikan, leave a note in the comment box during the checkout process. TO BOOK: There are anywhere from 1-5 Hummers available per departure. Each vehicle accommodates up to 5 people. Please select the number of Hummers you would like to book.

Accessibility will vary depending on the activities you choose for your customizable tour stops. Tours can be canceled for any reason up until seven (7) days prior to the date of the tour for a full refund unless otherwise noted on the individual tour product page in the Things to Know section. Within 0-7 days before the tour date, cancelations are eligible for a full refund only in the following scenarios:

- The tour is canceled by the tour operator for any reason (for example: bad weather or mechanical issue)

- You experience a medical emergency during this window and can provide documentation (documentation must be submitted within 30 days to receive a refund)

- Your ship changes port itineraries causing you to miss an excursion

All refunds are processed through Alaska Shore Excursions, and will not be processed through any cruise line or local tour provider. Refunds will appear under Alaska Shore Excursions on your bank/credit card statement. Credit card refunds are processed within 10 business days of the request. Great Tour with a great guide. Our guide asked what we want to see and then we were brought to all places we wanted to visit. One of the highlights was the rainforest with waterfalls in it and the beach. And the Totem-Park was great also.

Alaska Hummer Adventures  Private car service - Indiana Jones Style!

The Alaska Hummer Adventures tour is one of my family's favorites in Ketchikan.  The hardest thing about it is how to describe it!  The down and dirty about the tour is....

YOU choose where you want to go, what you want to do, and how long you want to do it!

It's...well...whatever you want it to be!  I guess I'll start at the beginning.  The standard Alaska Hummer Adventure Tour is 4 hours and includes the Hummer H2 and a guide.

The price you pay ($689 for 4 hours) is for the vehicle and guide , no matter how many people are in the Hummer, which can hold up to 5 passengers, and includes all park & entrance fees .

Our first impression was it was too expensive.  But after taking the tour, it is easily worth every penny - and more!

But the pricing is second to the incredible service you receive.  The guides are top-notch .  They know everything there is to know about anything you ask.

Trees, shrubs, wildlife, city history, native history, totem pole stories, flora & fauna, geology of the area, hotspots for taking photos , shopping, 'authentic' native or local items , the top spot for fresh Alaskan Salmon & Halibut to ship home, the best restaurants in town, you name it, they know all about it and can take you there!

Again, You choose where you want to go and what you want to do!  The flexibility on this tour is one of the best parts!

Do you want to go sightseeing for 3 hours, and shopping for 1? No Problem!  Have you ever been on a tour where when you get there you think to yourself...Oh, this does not interest me...but I still have to listen to this guy talk for another hour before we can leave.  Not on this tour!   Simply tell the guide you're done....and you can leave as fast as you can get the family (or friends) back into the car.  And that is just one benefit of the Alaska Hummer Adventure tour!

The same goes if it's cold, windy, rainy, sunny, etc.  If you simply want to drive around and see the sights - No problem!   Or on the flip side, do you want to go hiking for 4 hours?  No problem - there is an Alaska Hummer Adventure guide for you that can take you to some incredible hikes on the island.  Would you like to do some Geocaching while in Ketchikan?  There are guides who are avid geocachers!  Whatever your interest, there is a guide for you.

When you book a tour with Alaska Hummer Adventure you're given a Preference Sheet that lists several options such as: 

• Visiting the Totem Pole parks in town:   The tour can go to all of the Totem Pole parks in Ketchikan including Totem Bight State Park , Saxman Native Village , The Totem Heritage center , and (my personal favorite) Potlach Park where we met the local native carver , Brita, and got to see her carving a totem pole - up close and personal, we were able to see all of her tools (many handmade!), ask her questions , and pose for pictures with her!

• Wildlife Viewing:  See Bears , Eagles, Eagles Nests, Deer, Sea stars, jumping Salmon , Birds, Sea lions, whales , and more!  The guides do their best to take you to the hottest wildlife viewing areas , at the best times, to find wildlife on the island.  We had a fabulous guide who took us to several spots around town for wildlife viewing.  We went down to the boat launch and were able to see many Eagles in the trees and on the break wall, amazing sea life , including 5 different sea stars and a sunflower starfish !  Then we went out to a different spot and saw bears chasing salmon and sea lions in the cove.  It was an incredible day!

• Hikes & beach walks:   There are a ton of hiking opportunities around Ketchikan and the Alaska Hummer Adventure guides can take you on short walks through the rainforest & muskeg , on long strenuous hikes up to incredible lakes , out to the local beaches, or anything in between!  We chose to take a longer hike and were rewarded with incredible views of Silvis lake.  And our guide explained all of the trees, shrubs, berry bushes, geology, & flora & fauna along the way.  I was stunned that she knew so much!
• Views of the stunning beauty of Ketchikan:   Visit an incredible waterfall , travel up over 1,000ft to Slide Mountain where you are rewarded with an awesome panoramic view of the Tongass Narrows , Guard Lighthouse, & surrounding islands, travel the back streets through town to see how we live in Ketchikan, or stop anywhere along the way.  We were driving along and saw a stunning view of the islands and asked if we could stop real quick - no problem!   Then we went up Slide Mountain and our guide made several stops along the way.  At one point we even got out and went berry picking for Salmonberries, Huckleberries, Blueberries, and even Thimbleberries!   Who knew there were so many berries here!  Up at the top we marveled at the view and our guide explained the history of logging in the area.

• Historic City Tour: Travel through town and stop along the way to discuss the history and culture in town.  We made several stops on the 'City Loop' and our guide took us to places other tours miss.  We stopped at Creek Street and walked Married Man's Trail, saw the baseball fields where the kids play ball on gravel (ouch!), stopped and wandered through beautiful City Park, drove down the back streets and saw first hand how a lot of Ketchikan is built OVER the water, viewed the many Totem Poles in the downtown area, drove through the world-famous tunnel, saw the many marinas around town, the Coast Guard Station, and a few parks around town.
• And many more attractions and stops along the way:  You could even choose to go to the Southeast Alaska Discovery Center , offering information about Alaska’s wilderness areas, ecosystems, wildlife, natural resources, public lands, and native cultures.   This center is both educational and entertaining.  All of the above attractions are included in the Alaska Hummer Adventures tour.

But did I mention the flexibility of the tour ?  If you want to stop for coffee, no problem.  How about lunch?  Or did you forget something and need to make a quick stop at Wal-mart....you guessed it - No problem!

OH!  And I forgot one important thing.  During the Alaska Hummer Adventures 4 hour tour, you are treated with cold bottled water as well as a wonderful light snack that is perfect to tie you over to your next meal on the ship.

This is one tour you definitely won't want to miss!   The company is family-owned and we found our guide absolutely loved her job, which showed on our tour.

They have 5 Hummers available; all different colors - white, yellow, red, silver & gunsmoke blue.  We were thrilled in the Yellow one and gladly gave up our 'golden ticket' so we could ride in it.  The inside of the Hummer is so plush!   There was plenty of room for 5 adults , all of our backpacks, our camera bags, & our purchases throughout the day, and we were told they can even take fold-up wheelchairs .

Umbrellas were provided when it started to rain and the seats had seat warmers!   They even dialed in our favorite music preference.  Doors were opened & closed for us.  This was a first-class tour all the way around.  We started out the day by meeting our guide but ended the day saying goodbye to a friend!

We were lucky to get on the Ketchikan Duck Tour today with Debby and Tony. Our other excursion with Holland America cancelled last minute. Debby and Tony provided a lovely, entertaining tour through the town and out into the water. Delightful 2 hours.

Duane gave us the best tour of our vacation. He was a gracious gentleman helping one of our party, who had a foot injury, walk to a waterfall and tide pools. He also took us to a great coffee shop and showed us his favorite shop with authentic Native Art. Duane also made sure we found the one shop we had on our list before arriving for the tour.

Captain Lance did an incredible job leading us towards the bears via boat. Not only did we see bears hunting fish, Lance also stopped the boat whenever we saw wildlife in the water. We were even lucky enough to see a whale! Overall beautiful experience, and excellent service by Captain Lance. He was informative, entertaining, skillful with the boat, and created a comfortable atmosphere ideal for enjoying a new experience.

Best excursion of our trip! Personalized to our group, and Duane was the best tour guide, taking us to a favorite local coffee shop (get a cookie with your coffee! SO delicious!) halfway through. Knowledgeable and friendly. They will take you wherever you are interested. A memorable time. Thanks, Duane!

I flew into Ketchikan for the day today with my father and friends. We happened to find the saltwater expedition tour through the tourism booth by chance. The two hour tour was just the right amount of time for the limited amount of time we had available. The vessel was perfect for our small group (I think it seats up to six) and offered both the warmth of an enclosed pilot house and seating area and good sized decks to let the wind blow through your beard. The water was incredibly smooth today and the weather just absolutely beautiful. Our Captain, Doug was awesome! Incredibly friendly and very knowledgeable about the area the scenery around us and offered suggestions for places for lunch post tour and activities for future visits. A real class act! While we didn't get to see any bears this particular trip for they had already had their fill of Salmon with it being towards the end of the season. We did get to see several harbor seals, bald eagles, cormorants and incredibly beautiful and serene landscapes including small secluded harbors and beautiful misty waterfalls. Well worth it in my book. There was an option to add extra hours to the trip and had I had more time I'm sure I'd have done so. Next time I'll be able to stay longer. I promise I'll be back. Thank you for making our spur of the moment day trip so enjoyable. Looking forward to returning soon.

Wow this is a must have experience if you are visiting Ketchikan. Our tour guide Mark went above and beyond to make our trip special. He tailored our tour to meet everyone's needs. We saw waterfalls, beaches, the rainforest and we even got a historical tour through town. There was not a spot on our list that we didn't get to see!!!

The Black Bear Expedition through Alaska Hummer Adventures was a highlight of our trip. The arrangements were easy to make, the critical information readily given, both by phone and on the website, and the actual adventure was spectacular. Our boat captain/guide, Doug, was both personable and knowledgeable. Arriving at the small dock at Traitor's Cove, the boat ride was followed by a super short van ride to the path to the viewing platform. We were greeted by such a beautiful landscape, truly what we visited Alaska to see. The stream below the platform had about 7-8 bears walking through, at various times, and waiting for the salmon. It was amazing to see the bears victorious in their efforts from that vantage point. Captain Doug also pointed out the eagles (and one bold seagull) waiting around for leftovers in the trees. We were able to stay for a nice amount of time. We did the afternoon tour and it ended up being just my family and the captain, the couple of float plane guests and pilot were departing as we arrived. Bears and no other visitors are not promised but, for us, it was truly money well spent for such a great excursion and memory.

Requirements & Restrictions: Guests must be able to navigate steps to get on/off the vehicle. What to Bring: Camera and credit/debit cards for purchases. A light jacket and walking shoes are recommended. Good to Know: Stops can include dining, shopping, photography, and additional custom activities. Collapsible wheelchairs and mobility devices can be stored inside the vehicle. Guests will have a driver guide on every unit. Vehicle can hold up to five guests per vehicle.

Tour Ketchikan in rugged luxury -- Indiana Jones style. You'll begin your fully customizable adventure on the Ketchikan dock. Your transportation is by Hummer H2 (a passenger vehicle modeled on the famous military HumVee) with a knowledgeable tour guide at your service.

You choose where you go, what you want to see, and how long you want to stay there. Among the many options are all of the totem parks, including Saxman Native Village, Potlatch Park, and Totem Bight State Park, walks through the rain forest, a beach walk, a stop at Herring Cove to look for wildlife in season, waterfall viewing, hikes in the Tongass National Forest, and many more options.

All entrance fees to attractions listed above are included in the price. Bottled water is provided.

Private Hummers are ordered per vehicle (not per person), so only one person in the party needs to order the vehicle. Meals are not included. The Hummer can accommodate up to five (5) adults. Please contact the Shore Excursion call center if this tour is sold out. Upon request, a van can be used instead of a Hummer for this small-group tour, subject to availability.

We meet at the meeting place, we’re taken to a bus with other people from a cruise ship. I believe there were 28 of us not 6 or 8 but we were taken on this bus about 30 minutes to a small harbor got on a boat and went about a 40 minutes to Neets Bay Fish Hachery . The boat was loud but we were given headphones to listen to a guide about the area. We were meet by a informative women who told us about the hachery and the black bears. She took us on a trail to the river. There were eight black bears in the river, it was incredible . The bears were fishing, eating and sitting in the river. We arrived in Ketchikan to a text that our scheduled excursion, along with 99% of the others on our ship, were cancelled due to weather; pouring rain and heavy winds. We disembarked and asked one place that had openings, but ultimately approached another company and begged if they could accommodate us. This one fit the bill; a 3 hour tour with a little adventure and a little culture for me! Duane was actually convinced we wouldn't see any wildlife, but low and behold, we saw a bear and a bald eagle in one eye-line. Oh, and a deer and seals :) Then, my son & I stood in a raging waterfall. After that, off for delicious snacks and coffee (not included in price), and a stop at the most gorgeous library I have ever seen, and a relatively brief stop at Totem Bight State Historical Park (my husband and child appreciated the length at both the library and the park... I could've been there for hours). So in the end, it was a fantastic tour mix for our family. Duane made for great conversation, too! Thanks again for accommodating us! She showed us some beautiful spots, and went above & beyond to help us spot wildlife... salmon & bear among the list. She took us on a great trek through the woods, and showed us some things around town that were of interest to us... different perhaps than many might request.
