BIOGRAPHY OF COLDPLAY

The alternative rock band,  Coldplay , was formed in 1998 in London and consists of 4 members: Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion. With over 40 million albums sold, Coldplay are one of the most popular POP groups of the moment.

SUCCESSFUL ALBUMS

In 1998, the band released their first single, Safety AP, but it didn't sell well. In 1999, they signed to Fierce Panda, an independent label and released Brothers and Sisters EP and The Blue Room EP. In 2000, they released Parachutes. In 2001, the album A Rush of Blood to the Head won four Grammy Awards and a Brit Award. Coldplay then had a series of successes with their albums Coldplay X&Y (2004), Viva la Vida or Death and All his Friends (2006), Mylo Xyloto (2009) and Ghost Stories (2014). In 2012, they recorded a duet entitled Princess of China with the famous R'n'B singer  Rihanna .

A COMMITTED GROUP

Coldplay  support many associations like the Oxfam international confederation, which fights against injustice and poverty. To raise money, the group made a single, 2000 Miles, available for download, and put objects from their career for sale on Ebay. In addition, they organise surprise concerts.

Coldplay breaks records at the Stade de France

The London group, known for its mild pop, is in the middle of a four-show run in Saint-Denis, outside of Paris.

Coldplay at the Stade de France (Seine-Saint-Denis), July 16, 2022.

Not one, not two, not three but four Stade de France gigs for Coldplay. In this scorching mid-July, the London pop group is re-writing the Stade de France record books. Not even French icon Johnny Hallyday, who played sets of three gigs on three occasions, managed to perform to 300,000 spectators in such a lineup of tour dates. It's a feat that is sure to annoy this group's detractors. Coldplay was born from the ashes of Britpop at the end of the 1990s and became the most popular band of the 21 st century in this genre of music. The aforementioned haters continue to wonder how music so devoid of any edginess could conquer such a venue.

Coldplay already knows the Stade de France well, having played there twice, in 2012 and in 2017. After singing an encore of "Sparks" – a melancholic, Radiohead-style ballad from the first album Parachutes (2000) – singer Chris Martin, speaking on Saturday 16 July, reminisced about their first concert in Paris: "There was nobody" in May 2000, in the small room of La Maroquinerie. Mr. Martin also remembered the omen of a journalist: "He told us that we were too depressing and that we would not make a career. So we changed. Thanks to him!"

A modest, luminous globe adorned the cover of Parachutes . Coldplay's ninth album, Music of the Spheres , released in the fall of 2021, has a more glittering visual: a system of nine planets and three satellites. For the production, the quartet called on the Swede Max Martin, the greatest hitmaker of his time (for artists such as Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Maroon 5, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd). It was clear that we would not escape the duets, whether with Selena Gomez for the mawkish "Let Somebody Go" (at the Stade de France, the former Disney princess is replaced by the American R'n'B singer H.E.R., invited to open the show) or with the Korean boy band BTS for "My Universe," a dance-pop track as elegant as those by David Guetta, who of course has remixed it.

Synthetic pop made for stadiums

In the end, it's synthetic pop made for stadiums, as if the tour had to define the musical style. With the help of programmed sounds, the bouncy single "Higher Power" opened the evening, after a stage entrance worthy of a television broadcast of the Champions League. Their image appeared on the screens as they made their way from the locker rooms – sorry, the dressing rooms – to the pitch. They crossed it to take their place on one of the three stages, not the main one, but a second one, set up in the heart of the pit.

SUSTAINABILITY PLAN ‘A WORK IN PROGRESS’

SHOW POWERED BY 100% RENEWABLE ENERGY

PLEDGE TO CUT TOUR EMISSIONS BY 50%

ONE TREE PLANTED FOR EVERY TICKET SOLD

In 2019, Coldplay committed to making their future tours  as environmentally beneficial as possible , and today’s announcement is accompanied by a comprehensive set of sustainability initiatives and environmental commitments.

Full details can be seen at  coldplay.com/sustainability , including commitments to:

  • cut direct emissions by 50% compared to the band’s most recent tour (2016-17).
  • power the show entirely by renewable, super-low emission energy – with solar installations at every venue, waste cooking oil, a kinetic stadium floor and kinetic bikes powered by fans. This power will be stored in the first ever mobile, rechargeable show battery (made from recyclable BMW i3 batteries).
  • draw down significantly more CO2 than the tour produces with a range of nature- and technology-based solutions, including planting one tree for every ticket sold.
  • provide each venue with a sustainability rider requesting best environmental practices.
  • encourage fans to use low carbon transport to and from shows via the official tour app built by SAP, rewarding those who do with a discount at venues.
  • ensure all merchandise is sustainably and ethically sourced.
  • offer free drinking water and strive to eliminate plastic bottles at every venue.
  • put 10% of all earnings into a fund for environmental and socially-conscious causes, including ClientEarth, One Tree Planted and The Ocean Cleanup.
  • establish a partnership with climate change experts at Imperial College London’s Grantham Institute – Climate Change and the Environment to quantify the impact of the tour – both positively and negatively – on the environment
  • together with Green Nation, Live Nation’s sustainability platform, Coldplay will be a special artist advisor, ensuring the sustainable practices developed on this tour are shared, adopted and scaled through the rest of the live touring industry.

Coldplay said:

“Playing live and finding connection with people is ultimately why we exist as a band. We’ve been planning this tour for years, and we’re super excited to play songs from across our whole time together.

At the same time, we’re very conscious that the planet is facing a climate crisis. So we’ve spent the last two years consulting with environmental experts to make this tour as sustainable as possible, and, just as importantly, to harness the tour’s potential to push things forward. We won’t get everything right, but we’re committed to doing everything we can and sharing what we learn. It’s a work in progress and we’re really grateful for the help we’ve had so far.

If you’d like to come to a show and sing with us, we’re so excited to see you.”

Recent tour reviews

I had always heard Coldplay were a fantastic band to see live. They did not disappoint last night at Fedex Field, right in the midst of their joyous and decidedly over-the-top Head Full of Dreams tour.

The show began with an explosion of color and light (including the LED wristbands supplied to every concertgoer) in the titular track on the band's touring album. Then came fan-favorite "Yellow," followed by "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall," the ever-popular "The Scientist," and "Birds" (the latter was a bit of a personal disappointment as it replaced the brilliant "God Put a Smile Upon Your Face" from recent setlists). This part of the show finished with the anthem "Paradise," featuring an incredible remix outro.

Next the show slowed down for an intimate trio of songs (most of us actually took a seat). This included one of the better tracks from the sub-par "Ghost Stories", "Magic."

Soon, however, things picked up with the timeless piano strokes of "Clocks," themed to a magical red light show. Next came the lighthearted "Charlie Brown." Before it began, lead singer Chris Martin asked everyone to put away their phones and simply enjoy the show. This was followed by the radio hit "Hymn for the Weekend," a candlelit (okay...Iphone flashlight lit) "Fix You," and "Viva la Vida." This last one was remarkable, as nearly the entire stadium knew the lyrics and sang along to the triumphant "Oh-oh-ohhhh" chant. The groovy "Adventure of a Lifetime" finished off this section, featuring Chris gettin' down with the audience, asking everyone to "Get low!"

Then came the highlight of the night for me: an acoustic quad of older (*cough* better *cough*) Coldplay songs which were as intimate as they were nostalgic. The lovely riffs of "In my Place" started off the set. "Don't Panic" was sung by drummer Will Champion; it's one of my favorites. But it couldn't top what was (for me) the best song of the night: "Trouble." Somber but beautiful in its own way, "Trouble" is a rare find in the setlists of today's Coldplay and was absolutely fantastic. Finally came another rare gem: "Green Eyes," which was somewhat marred by Chris's well-intentioned attempt at giving the local Redskins some luck (HA! what folly) by changing the lyrics.

The finale of the show was the hopeful and popular trio of "Something Just like This," "A Sky Full of Stars," and "Up and Up." This last track was played against the backdrop of the magical and visually stunning music video for the song.

And if there were two adjectives to sum up the show as a whole, they would be just that: magical and visually stunning. Thanks for an awesome show, Coldplay!

First of all I need to just say wow! Wow! Yesterday I experienced one of the greatest nights of my life. Yesterday I really did feel like I was part of something special, something so big and beautiful. The love, the happiness and the excaitment people were feeling last night were something you can't put words on. We stood in the rain for so many hours, we sat in a que and then we stood in the rain again.. but let me just say that when Coldplay came on stage they put on the best god damn show ever. You could really feel their thankfulness during the show. They promised us (in Chris Martins own words) "The best fucking show ever" and let me tell you it was! During the night I got to experience people from different countries dancing and singing along together, I got to experience that moment when Chris decided to write a new song about Sweden and Gothenburg! The night was amazing in so many ways. And just as he said during the night, that he believes when people are working together and last night everybody in that arena stood together. We celebrated the music, the evening and most of all we celebrated the love. Because in the end of the day Love is what matters and it will always win.

Yesterday was beautiful, just pure beautiful!

A Coldplay concert is a real face to face experience for a someone who love their songs. It may not be an intimate experience but considering the legions of fans that they have only a concert can accommodate everyone who are waiting all their lives for a chance to hear them live. and they never disappoint. A total performance complete with lasers and light and firework BUT without much fanfare, just them singing & playing their hearts OUT song after song alone or in harmony with the fans some crying, most gleefully dancing to their upbeat song or swaying OR slow dancing to slow Fix You or Yellow and probably thinking of someone they "cannot replace". Chris Martin is an awesome guy and so are the rest of the band. May their personal lives be as awesome as their professional lives, they deserve that too. as to Singapore, it may not be as engaging as it would be in the Philippines but hey, no one can complain; i had the best time celebrating my birthday in one of the best stadium this side of town with around 50K Coldpay fans celebrating with me :) :). Long live Coldplay, may you continue to bring joy to you fans worldwide. Looking forward to another Coldplay concert experience in the future.

Coldplay Announce 2023 Tour Dates

By Matthew Strauss

Coldplay

Coldplay have announced 2023 dates on their world tour in support of Music of the Spheres . Next year, the band will perform in Portugal, Spain, the United Kingdom, Italy, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, and the Netherlands. Find Coldplay’s schedule and a trailer for the tour below.

Coldplay famously declined to tour in support of Everyday Life for environmental reasons. The band has set out to make the Music of the Spheres World Tour more sustainable, with a press releasing touting concerts powered entirely by renewable energy. For example, there have been solar panels and wind turbines at every venue to help power the shows.

Coldplay announce world tour

‘music of the spheres’ will be powered by renewable energy..

coldplay world tour france

14th October 2021

Coldplay , News

After committing not to return to the live stage until shows could be done in a “sustainable” way, Coldplay have announced details - including environmental impact - of a world tour.

The band, who release new album ‘Music of the Spheres’ tomorrow (15th October), will head out on the tour of the same name in March, beginning in Costa Rica.

A statement from the band reads: “Playing live and finding connection with people is ultimately why we exist as a band.

The shows will be powered by renewable energy, the group have pledged to cut “tour emissions” by 50%, a tree will be planted for each ticket sold, each venue will be given a “sustainability rider” of requests, there will be free drinking water at each venue to cut down on single-use plastic, and the group have entered a partnership with climate change experts at Imperial College London’s Grantham Institute to measure the tour’s impact.

Green   starts with   yellow

When Coldplay set themselves the goal of making their tour as low-carbon as possible, they needed to find a partner with expertise in sustainable logistics solutions.

That’s why Coldplay have chosen DHL as Official Logistics Partner for their Music Of The Spheres World Tour.

DHL is proud to join Coldplay on the road as their Official Logistics Partner, and will support the band in their mission to cut their carbon emissions by more than 50% - bringing you a tour that’s both green… and Yellow.

Delivering great music, sustainably

When one of the world’s leading bands wanted to deliver a more sustainable world tour, they turned to the world’s leading logistics provider for help.

With DHL’s expertise in sustainable logistics solutions, we are able to offer Coldplay a multi-faceted approach to minimising the tour’s CO2 emissions.

Whether that’s reducing freight emissions through the use of advanced biofuels, deploying a fleet of electric vehicles and trucks powered by organic waste, or offsetting carbon emissions across the rest of our supply chain, our GoGreen Plus Service provides the band with innovative solutions to help minimise the environmental impacts of touring.

Sustainability at DHL

BRINGING LIVE MUSIC TO THE WORLD

DHL will support Coldplay for the duration of their Music Of The Spheres World Tour , helping the band get from A to X&Y to Z in the most sustainable way possible. Throughout that time, we’ll be auditing our approach to ensure that we’re delivering on our promises and minimising our carbon output.

Watch this space as all our efforts, will be captured in an exclusive behind the scenes documentary, detailing the logistical challenges of delivering a world tour as sustainably as possible. Until then, Viva la Vida.

Paris will play host to the best athletes in the world during the 2024 Summer Olympics. The athletes will have the opportunity to compete in some of the most storied and historical locations throughout France, from palaces, museum complexes, Teahupoʻo, Tahiti, to soccer stadiums and the shores of the Mediterranean Sea.

While many of the venues for the Paris Olympics have an illustrious past, here are six locations that will help showcase Paris, and France, during the Summer Games:

Château de Versailles

A world-renowned cultural site, the Château de Versailles will welcome athletes, human and horse alike, during the Olympics for equestrian and modern pentathlon events. A temporary stadium will be erected on the Etoile Royale esplanade for jumping and dressage events, while a course along the Grand Canal will be set up for cross country events.

The Château de Versailles, a former royal residence, was originally constructed as a hunting lodge in 1623. Louis XIV renovated and expanded the palace, eventually moving his court to Versailles. During the French Revolution, the palace was largely abandoned, and it was not until 1830 that restorations were made to the location. The palace and surrounding gardens were designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979 for its importance in government, art and science in France and it is considered one of the country’s most significant cultural sites.

The Seine will be a major hub during the Paris Olympics, hosting not only the open-water swimming events and the triathlons but also the Opening Ceremony. During the Opening Ceremony, approximately 10,500 athletes will travel along the Seine through the heart of Paris. It will be the first time in the history of the Olympic Summer Games that the Opening Ceremony will not be held in a stadium. The parade of athletes will end in front of the Trocadero, where additional festivities will be held.

In addition to the Opening Ceremony, athletes competing in triathlon and open-water swimming will begin their races in the Seine, from a temporary floating pontoon below the Pont Alexandre III bridge in Paris' western end.

Roland Garros

Rendering of Roland-Garros Stadium for the 2024 Olympics

Home to tennis and boxing during the Games, Roland Garros already has played host to some of the greatest sporting achievements in the nation's history. The French Open, one of tennis' four Grand Slams, has taken place on the grounds since 1928. The finals for tennis and boxing, along with other matches, will take place on the stadium's centerpiece, Philippe Chatrier Court. The principal venue of Roland Garros, the court is named after long time president of the French Tennis federation, who helped return tennis to the Olympics in 1988.

Grand Palais

Located in the heart of Paris, the Grand Palais is an exhibition hall and museum complex that will be transformed into a venue for fencing and taekwondo during the Paris Olympics. Originally constructed for the Paris Universal Exhibition in 1900, the building features ornate glass vaults and iron and light steel framing that reflect innovations from the period it was built.

Since its opening, the Grand Palais has been used as an exhibition site for art, sport and science. It has multiple spaces for art exhibitions and a science museum in the complex, as well as a history of hosting fencing and equestrian competitions. In 2017, the Grand Palais was used during the final stage of the Tour de France, when riders rode through the hall on the way to the Avenue des Champs-Elysees.

Stade de France

Image of the Stade de France in its track and field set up.

The national stadium of France is also the largest in the country, with a capacity of 80,698. Originally built for the 1998 World Cup, the stadium also has been a site of men's UEFA Champions League finals, Rugby World Cup games and the World Athletics Championship. Track & field will return to the Stade de France for the Paris Olympics, and the stadium will also host the Closing Ceremony. The stadium has not just seen athletic feats, but also major artists such as The Rolling Stones, Celine Dion, Beyoncé, Coldplay, Metallica, Prince and more.

Yves-du-Manoir

The 2024 Paris Olympics also will return to a site filled with its own history at Yves-du-Manoir. The stadium in Colombes, France, was the main location for the 1924 Olympics, when it was the venue for the Opening Ceremony, track & field, cycling and other events. The stadium returned to the world stage in 1938, when it hosted three men’s FIFA World Cup games, including the final between Italy and Hungary.

For the 2024 Games, Yves-du-Manoir Stadium will be home to field hockey, and new buildings constructed for the Olympics will be turned into the future home of the French Hockey Federation’s national training center.
