Where to find GTA Online Record A Studios and hang out with Dr Dre

The GTA Online Record A Studios is a location new to Los Santos with the GTA Online The Contract update. However, you'll have probably noticed after completing a few story missions that it's not actually mentioned, so you're probably wondering where exactly you can find the studios in GTA Online . Well, there's good news and bad on this topic: While it is a place you can go to at any time, whether they let you inside to enjoy the benefits is a different matter. If you want to learn more, here's what you need to know about the GTA Online Record A Studios location and how to access it.

GTA Online Record A Studios location

The GTA Online Record A Studios location can be found in west Los Santos, more specifically in the Rockford Hills area just southeast of the golf country club. However, you need to unlock access to it first, as until then you can only stand around in the street outside and try to peer in through the windows.

How to access GTA Online Record A Studios

To access the interior of GTA Online Record A Studios you're going to have to put in work first, and that means completing all of The Contract's story mission thread. This will solidify your relationship with Dr Dre, and Franklin will then call to invite you to for a tour of the venue. He suggests you "bring a friend", as going to Record A Studios for the first time will trigger one of the GTA Online Short Trips co-op missions which requires two players. Once your first Short Trip is complete, the GTA Online Record A Studios location will be added to your map and you can return there as often as you like to mooch around, listen in on Dr Dre, or play more Short Trip co-op missions.

Players have also been reporting a glitch where entering GTA Online Record A Studios for the first time either results in an endless loading screen and they have to quit, or they otherwise leave the session, then the marker disappears and Franklin doesn't call back to set it up again. If this happens to you, the solution is to try switching to a new lobby, perhaps even reloading the game, then registering as a CEO via the SecuroServ menu and driving around the city until Franklin makes the call – though this may take some time so be patient and work on other pursuits in the meantime.

GTA Online The Contract Dr Dre Guide

After you visit the Golf Course and complete the mission called On Course you will need to head back to your agency. Once at the agency a cutscene will play then you will regain control of your character. At this point you can access your computer to start The Contract: Dr. Dre. This mission for Dre features a mixture of setups and a heist. To help you complete this mission use our GTA Online The Contract Dr Dre guide below.

Setup: Data Recovery

When ready access your computer in the agency and select VIP Contract. From this menu you will see The Contract: Dr. Dre and the first setup mission called Data Recovery. Select Data Recovery to begin this first task which is to infiltrate the FIB headquarters to gather data that could lead to Dr. Dre’s stolen phone.

Land on the Roof of the FIB Building

Upon selecting this setups mission you will be transported to a helicopter outside of your agency. Fly the helicopter east and land on the roof of the FIB building. When you land the helicopter a custcene will play and you will break into the building.

Locate the Communications Room and Steal the Hard Drive

Inside the FIB building make your way to the left to find the communications room. Equip an explosive and blow the door off its hinges. Once the door is blown the alarm will trigger and you will get an automatic 4*. Approach the computer and install the virus onto it. Once the virus is installed you need to defend the area from enemies. Go back out and take cover. Defeat the enemies that appear then go into the Communications room and steal the Hard Drive.

Exit Building, Lose the Cops, And Make Delivery

Once you have the hard drive an exit will appear (yellow dot). Go to this exit to be taken to the roof of the FIB building. From here you can do a few things. You can climb the ladder up to the roof to get to your vehicle or jump off the side and parachute. Regardless the goal is to lose the cops. Once you’ve done this take the hard drive to the agency to end the mission.

Complete the Three Leaks (9 Missions)

After you’ve completed the data recovery mission you will need to wait around a bit until you receive a conference call from Franklin and Imani. This call tells you to comeback to the agency. Back at the agency access your computer and hit up the VIP Contract. There are now three missions you can do. The missions are:

• The Nightclub (Intel).
• The Marina (Intel).
• Nightlife Leak (Heist).
• The Country Club (Intel).
• Guest List (Intel).
• High Society Leak (Heist).
• Davis (Intel).
• The Ballas (Intel).
• South Central Leak (Heist).

Each leak has three missions to complete. The missions follow similar formats with two being intel gathering and one being a mini ‘heist.’ When you start a leak you are locked out of the other leaks until you complete it. There is some downtown between each mission where you wait for phone calls to start the next mission.

Once you’ve completed all of the missions listed above you will be invited back to the agency. Here you will meet up with Dr. Dre. This meeting doesn’t go so well with there being more work needed to be done.

Complete Studio Time

After you complete the meeting with Dr. Dre there is another mission for you to complete. This mission is called Studio Time. To complete this mission you need to Dre’s car to Record A Studios. When you are ready to do so head to Franklin’s office and start the mission there.

Drive the car over to the studio and clear out the hired gunmen on the exterior. Make your way inside and clear a way to the recording booth where Dr. Dre is. When you enter a cutscene will play and the mission will end.

Hunt Down Johnny Guns

The attack on Record A Studios declared war on Dre. To rectify this he asks that you grab the character named Johnny Guns for him. You go to look for this character and he runs. Take out the guards that appear. After This the shootout Johnny ends up at the LSIA where you must grab him. Clear the hangar then injure him. Pick him up to trigger a cutscene where Dre beats him with a golf club. After the cutscene drive Dre to the Pacific Bluffs Country Club to end The Contract: Dr. Dre.

The Contract: Dr. Dre Rewards

Each of the Data Leaks you complete earns you $100k. Once you complete all the missions listed above you earn $1,000,000. Alongside the monetary bonuses you unlock a few interesting gameplay additions. The first is access to the Record A Studios. This building serves as a social hub you can visit to hang with other players and watch Dr. Dre perform. The second unlock is the Dr. Dre media stick containing new game music. The last unlock is Short Trips which are special two-player missions you can complete.

Modder blew me up so I moved to new session in the middle of Nightclub Intel. Now it just says pending but I have no way to do it?

Is it possible there are glitches in the online missions for this I was in no way able to blow up the door to the communications room there were no bombs in my weapon wheel. Or I just don’t understand to do it.. it also told me to go and to the pc and steal data before the door was even opened yet

How long do you have to wait to start last part of the nightlife leak ? I finished the nightclub and the marina how long will it be until I can do the last part ?

Shouldn’t be very long. Maybe 5 minutes or so out in the open world.

GTA Interview: Rockstar On Working With Dr. Dre "We Built A Replica Of His Studio On The Mocap Stage"

Rockstar North on The Contract, a new GTA Online expansion featuring Dre’s first new music in six years and the return of GTA 5's Franklin Clinton.

Last time we hung out with Franklin Clinton in GTA 5, he had just robbed the Los Santos Union Depository and made off with a cool $40 million. Usually this is the end of a Grand Theft Auto protagonist's story. We rarely get to see what they do with the vast quantities of money they amass as they climb to the top of the criminal ladder. But in The Contract , the latest expansion for GTA Online, we get to see what Franklin gets up to next—and meet one of his new celebrity associates, hip hop legend Dr. Dre.

"It was just the right story for Franklin, I think," says Rob Nelson, head of development and co-studio head at Rockstar North. "But there were a number of other factors involved too. We wanted to work with Dr. Dre, and had been talking about a potential collaboration for a while. But in order to do that properly, we felt we needed to integrate him into our world in a believable way. We also wanted to work with him in the context of getting new music from him, which is a very special thing when it happens."

Rockstar started thinking about ways to bring Dre into the world of Grand Theft Auto that felt natural. They wanted it to be more than just a cameo (like in the Cayo Perico Heist ), which led them to come up with the idea of the player running a celebrity fixer business. "We imagined this celebrity solutions agency for people who can't go through normal channels to fix their problems. They have a lot of means, but might have to go outside the law a little to get things done. We thought that would work really well as a GTA Online business."

Rockstar also liked the idea of GTA Online players getting to see their created characters interacting with someone as iconic as Dre. "You've been with this avatar for maybe 8 years," says Nelson. "They're almost an extension of you. So we thought players getting to meet and work with someone with the legendary status of Dr. Dre—something that would only be possible in our medium—would be a really interesting thing to play with. But how do you connect this character who doesn't talk a lot with this icon?"

That's where Franklin comes in, acting as a mediator between your character and Dr. Dre. He's your voice in The Contract. "In the years since the Union Depository heist he's made a few investments, tried a bit of this, and a bit of that, but nothing really landed," says Nelson. "But now he's trying to be a relatively legitimate businessman and live a low key, happy life. He's used the expertise and the knowledge he gained from Michael and Trevor in GTA 5 and applied it to something he considers slightly more legitimate."

Franklin is the face of your business in GTA Online, and gives you an important job: recover Dr. Dre's stolen phone, which contains his first new, unreleased music in years. But rather than just being a plot point, you'll actually get to hear this new music—and even see it being made and mixed in the studio. GTA Online has long been a platform for releasing new music, but this is by far Rockstar's biggest score yet. Dre hasn't released anything new in six years, so getting him to do it through the game is a major deal.

"He had input all the way through the scripting process," says Nelson. "He came in and did performance capture for us. We even built a working replica of his studio on the motion capture stage. We brought in the type of mixing board he favours using and hooked it up live so he could play music on the set. He had his engineer there too, and Anderson .Paak came in, and they just did their thing as they normally would. This makes it feel authentic and relaxed, because he was there actually doing it for real. It was really special.

"Dre has always been an innovator, and I think he was excited about the idea. We have unreleased music from this iconic figure, who is known for being very protective of his music, and being very particular about when and how he releases it. He'll only release it when it's ready. That's a story in and of itself. What if he loses this music before he's ready to put it out? What lengths will he go to to get it back? And what if it's you, the player in GTA Online, that has to retrieve it? That sounded like a fun story to experience."

As you play through The Contract's missions, you'll hear these new, previously unheard songs at various points in the story. "As you're retrieving the music, you're hearing different songs in different environments and contexts," says Nelson. "Some might just be snippets, some might be the whole thing, but you're helping Dre pull it all back together. The songs will be available outside of the game in one way or another, but in GTA Online you're experiencing them as part of a story and part of an experience. Dre was really into that idea."

Rockstar worked closely with Dre to figure out which songs worked best in which context. "We'd say we needed this kind of track for this, and this kind of track for that, and he was firing things over to us that he was excited about. Music's always been a huge part of GTA, but that aspect of it has grown a lot over time, just out of our love for it and interest in it—and it'll continue to grow. Adding new tracks to the radio keeps the world feeling fresh. It's something we love to do, and want to keep doing as much of it as we can."

For many GTA fans, the return of Los Santos hustler Franklin Clinton will be just as exciting as getting to hang with Dr. Dre. He looks a little older, a little wiser, with some flecks of grey in his hair and beard. His dog, Chop, is back too. "People seem excited to have him back, hear his voice again, and see him doing well," says Nelson. "I saw a comment where someone said they felt like a proud parent when they saw him in the trailer for The Contract. People get attached to these characters they've spent so much time with."

Shawn 'Solo' Fonteno also enjoyed getting back in the studio to play the character again. "I don't wanna speak for him, but I think he was really excited about it," says Nelson. "For us, having him back was a really special moment. It's great seeing Franklin and Lamar back together again, and we have some fun moments for them. We really thought about how we felt about these characters after all this time, and wanted to do right by them and give players a fun new adventure with them. We can't wait to see people's reactions."

In the game, it's DJ Pooh who introduces Franklin to Dr. Dre—a connection that actually has some basis in reality. "Pooh is a long-term collaborator of ours," says Nelson. "He's on the radio in the game, and in real life he's friends with Dre. They go way back. He's also friends with Solo. So it made sense that these guys might have a similar connection in the game as they do in real life. The player in GTA Online already has Franklin's friend Lamar Davis as a business contact too, so it made sense to connect the dots this way."

Working with someone as busy and in demand as Dr. Dre was occasionally challenging, even for a studio as influential as Rockstar. "It involved a lot of back and forths," says Nelson. "We had a number of conversations and meetings with him, and were very into the idea of Dre being properly integrated into the story and not just bolted on. But we didn't know when we'd be able to pull it all together in terms of getting what we needed from him, and scheduling things to work for us and him, so we had to be a little flexible."

True to the satirical, anarchic spirit of GTA, Dre isn't just playing a straight-up, realistic version of himself. "It would be hard for him to do that in a Grand Theft Auto game," says Nelson. "Also, I don't know where the fun would even be in that. Anyone who's in this world is gonna play, and gonna want to play, an exaggerated version of themselves. But with somebody like him who's so well known, and known for so many things, it was fun to play with the character and figure out how that GTA version of him would pan out."

But what about players who want to catch up with Franklin or meet Dr. Dre, but have never played GTA Online? "The game has been going for about eight years and we're trying to streamline things for new or returning players" says Nelson. "There's a lot in there, and we're actively working on making it easier for people to get what they want from it. Also, depending on the content, letting people play some missions on their own. This update has as strong a narrative flow and thrust as anything we've ever done."

Rockstar has been telling stories in GTA 5 for almost a decade, and I wonder if it's getting harder. "It's a challenge," says Nelson. "But it's a good challenge. We used to put out a game then go back underground for years and make a new one. But that's not how this works. It's live and you're constantly adapting. You have a shorter development cycle, which means you have to be creative. This update is a perfect example of that. It started with an idea of wanting to work with a person, then we came up with something around that."

GTA Online The Contract DLC is the next big update for the game. The update brings back Franklin Clinton. After robbing the Union Depository it seems that Franklin has done really well for himself but his business still needs a big break. It looks like there will be plenty of content to look forward to and we've listed all of the new cars that have been added with the update.

Andre Romelle Young (born February 18, 1965), known professionally as Dr. Dre , is an American rapper, record producer, audio engineer, record executive, and entrepreneur. He appears in Grand Theft Auto Online , as himself in both The Cayo Perico Heist and The Contract updates.

Events of Grand Theft Auto Online [ ]

Dr. Dre makes a cameo appearance during the Heist Prep: Gather Intel mission introductory cutscene with DJ Pooh and Jimmy Iovine . As the GTA Online Protagonist and English Dave are about to board the plane with Keinemusik , they pull up to the airport hangar in a Baller . They were supposed to join Juan Strickler 's party in Cayo Perico and more of their entourage were supposed to follow in Dr. Dre's own car, but when they hear it was stolen at Iovine's house with Dre's phone full of important data including unreleased music, they cancel their trip. Pooh organized Scott Storch to take their place.

The Contract [ ]

Dr. Dre appears as the main character in the VIP Contract mission. He contacts F. Clinton and Partner to assist him in finding his lost phone that was stolen during The Cayo Perico Heist arc in 2020.

The first time Dre met both the GTA Online Protagonist and Franklin Clinton was at the Los Santos Golf Club in 2021 , where DJ Pooh , Jimmy Iovine and Dre himself was playing golf. After Dre failed to hit hole-in-ones and with 2 other golfers complaining about not being able to play as Dre and his friends were using the holes for too long, the two other golfers threatened to use their connections to evict Dre and his friends out of the golf course. Enraged, Dre snapped his gold club and both the Protagonist and Franklin went after the two golfers in golf carts and ram them into submission.

Soon after, it was reported that on top of the phone that was stolen from Dre, three unreleased tracks in the phone was being demoed out by three different people. One has ties to the Los Santos Vagos , one had ties to the Los Santos Triads and one affluent billionaire who dabbles in cryptocurrencies thus Dre asked Franklin and the Protagonist to take it back for him. After taking all three down and taking back the music scores, Imani managed to triangulate that the last person who has Dre's phone was none other than Johnny Guns , executive and producer for WesLos Records who had beef with Dre since the 90s, which was public enough at the time for Franklin to recall it. Dre instantly told Franklin and the Protagonist that he has to take the phone back by all cost with whatever means necessary and he wants to end the beef once and for all by killing Johnny himself.

Soon after, Franklin told the Protagonist that Dre had left his Champion back at the Agency and told the Protagonist to drive it to Dre's studio, Record A Studios , to return it back to him. On route, Franklin received news from Imani that Johnny Guns had actually sent out a private militia to kill Dre at Record A Studios and the Protagonist have to give Dre a helping hand by defending him and also wiping out all the men Johnny sent. After clearing out the men Johnny sent and ensuring that Dre and his posse were fine, Dre thanked the Protagonist and even claimed that he trusts them, and invites them to stay and watch him produce a new song together with Anderson .Paak while Iovine and Pooh celebrate in the background with the Protagonist.

After helping Dre at Record A Studios, Imani pinpointed the final location on where Johnny would be and Franklin once again told the Protagonist to go and bring Johnny Guns back so Dre can question him himself. However, just as the Protagonist reached Johnny's position just behind the Dashound Bus Center , Johnny fled in his car towards Los Santos International Airport and left the Protagonist to fight his bodyguards. After clearing the guards out, the Protagonist then went towards LSIA and found his car parked behind a hangar and went into the hangar to look for Johnny. After taking out more of his guards and confronting Johnny, the Protagonist carries a now injured Johnny Guns out to confront Dre himself. Dre voiced his displeasure for Guns in stealing his phone whereas Guns replied that it wasn't him as he admired Dre. Dre didn't trust what he said as he had actually threatened Dre by sending men to kill him and his posse. Guns then cursed at Dre but told him that he should have released his stuff that he makes instead of keeping it secret. Dre finally snapped and took a golf club from one of his vehicle and whacked Johnny Guns repeatedly.

Having vented his frustrations at Johnny, he asks the Protagonist to drive him home. Just before they leave the airport, Dre told the Protagonist that what Johnny did helped him open his mind that he has to release whatever that was leaked and on top of all the other demos that he had kept away to be released out and just before they left, Dre played one of his newest demos that wasn't leaked in the car and the Protagonist drives Dre back to the Pacific Bluffs Country Club where Dre get into his helicopter and fly towards his yacht.

After finishing Dr. Dre's VIP contract , he will occasionally invite the Protagonist to Record A studios to watch him produce new songs with his recording and mix engineer, Lola Romero .

• The Beat Off headphones seen in GTA V and GTA Online are a parody of Beats , Dre's own line of audio equipment.
• When first approached by DJ Pooh to work on Grand Theft Auto Online for The Cayo Perico Heist update (and eventually The Contract update), Dre initially refused, stating that he didn’t “make stuff for kids”. However, DJ Pooh brought a copy of Grand Theft Auto V and his PlayStation to Dre’s residence, showing him the game and explaining its appeal.
