Afrobeats News
With their exceptional talent, the Compozers have added zest to numerous musical projects and stages over the years. Let’s delve into a brief overview of these musical virtuosos.
You might have encountered them on several occasions, as they are frequently discussed in Afrobeats circles. They’ve collaborated with numerous Afrobeats artists on various platforms, from Diamond Platinumz to Davido, and have shared the stage with Asake on multiple occasions, most notably during his recent O2 show . Allow me to introduce you to the remarkable Compozers band.
View this post on Instagram A post shared by THE COMPOZERS (@compozers)
The Compozers, a quartet of British-Ghanaian instrumentalists, consist of Stephen Asamoah-Duah on drums, Nana Ntorinkansah on the bass guitar, David Ohene-Akrasi on keytar, and Charlie Mensah-Bonsu on the keyboard. They embarked on their musical journey nearly a decade ago and have consistently maintained their strong momentum in recent times.
The band is known for pioneering the concept of a full African instrumental ensemble, making them the first recognized group of their kind. The band’s origins trace back over a decade when they were experimenting with and reimagining musical renditions before formalizing their group.
One of their notable achievements is the annual show “A Night with The Compozers,” which premiered in 2013. The event initially attracted around 300 attendees, and its immense success prompted them to host a larger 2000-capacity concert the following year. This event has since become iconic, leading to multiple tours across Europe and America. The Compozers also earned recognition as the in-house band for “The Lateish Show with Mo Gilligan” on the UK’s Channel 4.
Beyond their role as an instrumental band, the Compozers have ventured into producing their own music. They debuted as musical artists with “Born You Well” in 2018 and have collaborated with prominent names such as Mr. Eazi and Nonso Amadi. Their impressive streaming numbers and fanbase are a testament to their musical prowess.
Additionally, they’ve extended their talents to production, earning credits for artists like Ed Sheeran, and Koffee, and notably contributing to J Hus’ debut album, “Common Sense”.
Their significant entry into the Afrobeats community came through multiple collaborations with Davido. Their initial collaboration was at a show in 2014, which marked the beginning of their enduring relationship with Davido and the broader Afrobeats genre. They have served as a backbone for acts like Tiwa Savage, Diamond Platinumz, Asake, and Sarkodie, lending their impeccable touch to these artists’ major shows.
What stands out most in their journey, aside from pioneering an unfamiliar style within the African music scene, is their ability to stay united over the years. Remarkably, they have maintained their bond as a band for an impressive 15 years. Throughout the world, including Africa, we have witnessed the rise and fall of various musical groups, with many struggling to maintain cohesion. However, the Compozers’ unique story has defied these odds and changed the narrative.
In the ever-evolving landscape of music, where collaborations come and go, and bands often face challenges in maintaining their unity, the Compozers stand as a testament to the power of passion, creativity, and unwavering camaraderie. Their journey, from humble beginnings to becoming pioneers in their own right, showcases not only their musical brilliance but also their unbreakable bond.
With each note they play and every stage they grace, the Compozers remind us that true artistry knows no boundaries and that the magic of music is most enchanting when shared among kindred spirits. As they continue to leave an indelible mark on the world of Afrobeats and beyond, the legacy of the Compozers will forever resonate as a symphony of talent, friendship, and the enduring pursuit of musical excellence.

Get The Compozers tickets now to see an amazing performance live by a great entertainer. Pop-Rock music has an emphasis on recording craft and songwriting and not as much emphasis on attitude. Beginning in the 1950s as an alternative to rock and roll, early iterations of pop-rock were influenced by doo-wop and rock-and-roll arrangements and styles. Many traditionalists prefer rock and roll to the more slick, commercial production of pop-rock.
Some refer to the music as power pop with a similar sound and lyrical content. Pop-rock music has been very commercially successful using elements of rock music. Many describe it as an upbeat variety of rock music. The term pop comes from the early twentieth century referring to popular music. In the 1950s, it began to be referred to as a specific genre typically aimed at youth and young adults. It is frequently characterized as a softer alternative to rock and roll. Davido’s Dream of Headlining Madison Square Garden Is Part of a Bigger One: ‘We’re Changing the Narrative of Being African in America’

Davido has been on a victory lap since last March when he dropped his fourth studio album Timeless , which earned the Afrobeats heavyweight three Grammy nominations this year. But on April 17, he’ll celebrate a very special stop: his first headlining show at NYC’s Madison Square Garden .
Trending on Billboard
“My show right now is over two hours [long]. And my new setup for tour, there’s a Stage A and there’s a Stage B, so I’m running up and down the whole night,” he says. “To produce the Davido show right now, we’re talking about $400,000, almost $500,000 – just for production alone. That’s one thing I think we’ve improved on a lot. And I have an amazing band, The Compozers. It’s the full package.”
Davido, the Afrobeats Phenomenon, Welcomes All to His World of Music
Performing in New York has also become a special ritual. The first time the Atlanta-born Nigerian artist born David Adedeji Adeleke performed in New York was in 2014 at the Pulse 48 nightclub in Brooklyn, which the New York Police Department had to shut down because the show was overbooked. “I’ve been coming back to New York almost every year since then,” he says. “New York was one of the first cities that was really putting on for African music in the mainstream. The first song that I got on the radio was in New York, so New York has a special place in my heart.”
His 2017 single “Fall,” which was later included on his sophomore album A Good Time , gradually took over U.S. airwaves two years after its release, reaching No. 13 on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay and No. 14 on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay in 2019. And listeners were eager to discover exactly who was behind it: In New York City, “Fall” became a top 10 record on Shazam in 2019, Rolling Stone reported at the time , while “If,” another big Davido record from 2017, was a top 50 Shazam record two years after it came out.
His fans will also have to watch out for his upcoming album (“It’s another classic, trust me,” Davido teases) that he’s currently working on – even while he’s on tour. “We got a mobile studio, so I can literally record anywhere. Inspiration can come anytime whether I’m on stage, whether I’m on the road,” says Davido. “I’ll always set up a studio and I have my producers fly with me, travel with me.”
And as he continues to spread African music and culture across the globe through his recorded and live music, Davido wants his African fans who will be attending the MSG show to “leave and be proud to be who they are, proud of the culture, proud of how far we’ve come. As Africans, we’re changing the narrative of being African in America. Years ago, it was a different thing. Now, when you say you’re African, you’re proud to say it, eat the food, wear the clothes, play the music,” he says. “And [for] the people that are coming to experience African culture for the first time, I want them to leave knowing that they’re never going to forget this.”

The Philadelphia Orchestra Embarks on a Historic Tour to Canada Under the Baton of Yannick Nézet-Séguin
PHILADELPHIA, PA — In a celebration of musical heritage and international camaraderie, The Philadelphia Orchestra, conducted by Music and Artistic Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin, is set to embark on a landmark tour of Canada, marking their first joint venture to Nézet-Séguin’s homeland. This momentous occasion also includes performances in Ann Arbor, Michigan, from April 17–21, 2024, weaving together a narrative of cultural exchange and artistic excellence.
The tour will grace the stages of Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal—Nézet-Séguin’s birthplace—where the ensemble will be hosted by the Orchestre Métropolitain, an orchestra that also benefits from Nézet-Séguin’s dynamic leadership. This cross-border musical journey not only symbolizes a homecoming for Nézet-Séguin but also serves as a bridge between his American and Canadian families, fostering a shared appreciation for the universal language of music.
“For me, this tour holds special significance,” Nézet-Séguin remarked, highlighting the opportunity to unite his musical families through the works of composers Florence Price and Sergei Rachmaninoff, both of whom hold a dear place in the heart of the Orchestra.
The Philadelphia Orchestra’s connection to Canada traces back a century, with its first performance in Montreal occurring in February 1924. Despite a blizzard thwarting their planned Ottawa concert that year, the Orchestra’s ties to Canadian audiences have only strengthened over time. The ensemble’s inaugural international appearance took place in Toronto in 1918 under the baton of Leopold Stokowski, marking the beginning of a storied history of global engagement.
Ann Arbor, too, shares a rich history with the Orchestra, which first performed there in 1913. For nearly half a century, the ensemble was a fixture at the University of Michigan’s May Festival, contributing to the city’s vibrant cultural landscape.
The tour’s repertoire has been carefully chosen to reflect the Orchestra’s artistic identity and its historical connections with the featured composers. Rachmaninoff, who famously declared The Philadelphia Orchestra “the greatest orchestra in the world,” enjoyed a unique relationship with the ensemble, premiering many of his compositions with them. Similarly, the Orchestra has recently undertaken efforts to champion the music of Florence Price, the first African American woman recognized as a symphonic composer, earning a GRAMMY® Award for their recording of her work.
Beyond the concert hall, the Orchestra’s visit will encompass master classes, community performances, and collaborations with local musicians, underscoring the tour’s emphasis on educational outreach and cultural diplomacy. These activities highlight the transformative power of music to connect individuals across geographical and cultural divides.
The tour is supported by a coalition of sponsors and partners, including the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development. Additionally, the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Canada play a crucial role in facilitating this cultural exchange, reflecting the Orchestra’s longstanding participation in the U.S. Department of State’s Arts Envoy Program.
As The Philadelphia Orchestra prepares to share its musical legacy with Canadian audiences, this tour represents more than a series of concerts; it is a testament to the enduring bonds formed through the shared experience of music. It reaffirms the Orchestra’s commitment to artistic excellence and global engagement, promising to leave an indelible mark on the hearts of listeners and performers alike.
