This pattern is for older children, teens, and adults - it doesn’t work so well for young children, since their bodies have different proportions. To make this for a little kid, check out the Acting Ensign Wesley Crusher Sweater pattern .

This is a seamless sweater knitted top-down in the round and shaped with the raglan technique. It’s inspired by the Acting Ensign uniform from Star Trek: The Next Generation, most often worn by the character Wesley Crusher. The rolled stockinette collar mimics the turtleneck on his uniform.

You will have access to three versions of this pattern: a version for women, a version for men, and a personalized version. The pre-calculated versions for women and men are sized to have positive ease; exact sweater dimensions are given below. These versions are written for a US size 8 (5mm) circular needle with worsted weight yarn; 4”/10cm = 18 stitches x 24 rows.

The personalized version is customized for both your size and your gauge. Parts of it are written as a recipe; the instructions are specific, but you will have the freedom to check and adjust the sizing. With the sizing calculator , you can make the sweater for any teen or adult, using whatever yarn weight and needle size you prefer. Within reason, anyway - super bulky yarn on size 50 needles might not make a very good sweater!

Before starting your sweater, knit a 20-stitch x 20-row swatch with the yarn and needles that you plan to use. Follow the instructions on the sizing calculator page and mark down the output in the pattern. Use the numbers where you find the corresponding letters in the pattern.

4 May has become internationally known as “Star Wars Day” because of the very punny greeting “May the Fourth be with you.” (If you don’t get it, say it out loud in Obi-Wan’s voice and you’ll figure it out.) We’re never ones to pass up a celebration of something this fun! Here for your knitting and crocheting pleasure are 31 Star Wars patterns that you can make in honor of the big day. Then wear them to a Star Wars party, movie marathon or charity event.

Star Wars Paid Knitted Patterns

Darth Vader Dishcloth/Washcloth

The durable Broadway Purely Wool DK has great colours for this pattern at a very affordable price. 

Chirrut Hat

The Chirrut Hat by Angela Villanueva is a Star Wars accessory that’s stealthy as Ahsoka Tano. To the outsider, it looks like a very cool slouchy hat with interesting texture. In fact, that texture is Braille letters that spell out “I am one with the Force, the Force is with me,” the famous chant spoken by Chirrut Imwe in Rogue One. We think this would look especially cool in some cozy Zealana Rimu DK .

Rebel Alliance Wrist Warmers

You can show off your Rebel nature on your hands, too, with the Rebel Alliance Wrist Warmers knitting pattern by Ellen B. Wright. The chart for these wrist warmers is adapted from the Star Wars Scarf (see below), but unlike that pattern uses a sport weight yarn, and Juniper Moon Farm Patagonia Organic Merino is the right yarn for the job.

If you need a little more BB-8 in your life, you can hang him on your Christmas tree with the BB-8 Christmas Bauble crochet pattern. It comes with a phototutorial, so if you are still unsure of your crochet skills this is a great way to learn! Like many amigurumi pieces, DMC Happy Cotton would be a great fit for this pattern.

Black and White

It’s time to bring back the classic. This year, wearing outfits comprised of black and white is blowing up. Whether it’s a dress or a white shirt with black pants, this color combo will be super strong. It’s timeless and beautiful, and the best part? You don't have to worry about anything clashing. 

The only thing you have to be worried about is wearing two different shades of black, which can look a little strange. Other than that, you're made in the shade! You can prevent this by wearing only one piece of black and white. Don't be afraid to throw in some colorful accessories to jazz up the outfit, however! Color is very much in, too. 

One of your grandma's trends is back (in a good way)! Knit sweaters are absolutely huge this year. In fact, any oversized sweater is the go-to item for most people. That's because this year is all about being comfy and cozy. There isn't a better way to do that than a knit sweater.

You can jump on other trends by wearing a cropped knit sweater, but we suggest going with one that you'll feel good in throughout the day. Nothing is worse than feeling uncomfortable in your own clothes. Now could also be the time to pick up that knitting kit you said you'd get to all pandemic long.

Power Pants

Power pants are certainly a throwback to the '80s, but these wide-leg pants are coming to you from the '90s. Does anyone else recall how huge the pants were back then? JNCO was absolutely a hit, so we aren't shocked to see power pants making a strong return for the year. 

For a while, regular pants have fallen to the wayside for denim, so we're happy to see that they're finally back. Cotton fabric is a huge one for this trend, but you can also cheviot, felt, or even velvet. There are tons of options on the market this year to choose from. 

Untraditional Colors

Time to ditch the boring pastels and opt for a more untraditional hue. As fashion designers and experts play with color, they're choosing some really untraditional color palettes. Let us explain what we mean by that. While many of us would grab a saturated, forest green, we're seeing more pistachio-colored items during Fashion Week. 

Colors like tangerine, peach, and purple are also showing up quite a bit. That's possible because Pantone revealed the color of the year to be a shade of purple called Very Peri. Gotta admit that it's definitely a pretty shade of purple. You might also see more mint shades this year. 

Sheer Fabric

Sheer fabric has been a huge staple in wardrobes for a couple of seasons now. While some people will still go full-outfit sheer, sheer tops and dresses will be much more popular. The modesty aspect is one of the most popular reasons why sheer tops will be the go-to thing. 

One of the best ways to play with sheer fabrics is by trying out layering. You could wear a sheer shawl or jacket over your opaque top. That's a fantastic way to dress up something while adding a little extra modesty. Above all, you feel flowy and stunning while you walk. It's like your own little runway show. 

Puffy Sleeves

Sculpted shoulders and puffy sleeves can drastically change your silhouette. Dresses, blouses, and sweaters with this distinct detailing will keep you looking trendy and bold. This all comes from a trend called "Regencycore." This trend is basically describing anything you'd see in shows like Bridgerton . 

Naturally, that's where this trend comes from. The only difference is that it's modernized. No one (except maybe fashion designers) expects people to run around in a tight corset and a low-cut top. It isn't the 1800s anymore. Puffy shoulders on a dress look beautiful, especially if it's an off-the-shoulder dress. You could also try puffy shoulders with a short-sleeved shirt!

Slingback Heels

We've said it before, and we'll say it again: the '90s are back and huge . One of the staples of the '90s wardrobe was a slingback heel. This year, it should make an appearance in a big way. The colder months deserve dressy shoes as well, and closed-toe, kitten heels are ideal for frigid temperatures.

Plus, slingback heels come in a plethora of colors and textures. Bonus points if you choose something blocky with a low heel. Not only will this look great, but your feet won't be screaming by the end of the day. This is the year to stop sacrificing your feet for the sake of being "in."

We're not going to say that metallics is an easy trend to pull off. There's a definite fine line between looking like you got lost in a roll of aluminum foil versus looking fashionable and stylish. To avoid looking like a child lost in the space-age era of the '90s, go with one metallic item per outfit. 

Some experts are going with metallic leggings or metallic accessories. You could also wear a metallic-colored top with a pair of white wide-leg pants or jeans. That being said, some people are able to pull off a full dress made of metallic, and that's certainly something we can admire. Strut your stuff!

High-Low Hemlines

It’s time to bring back something we haven’t seen in a while: skirts with high-low cuts. Fashion designers are using this hemline quite a bit, and it’s quite clear why. It looks effortlessly flowy and beautiful. It gives you the best of both worlds and the best part? The back part glides almost magically behind you.

Throw a pair of low heels on and a nice fashionable blouse, and you have an outfit that will be one of your favorites. We also adore the silhouette it creates, and that’s probably why so many designers are going with this type of hemline specifically. We’re gonna love this one while it lasts. 

Regular or Wide-Leg Jeans

This is one that was somehow decreed by the younger generations. For some reason, they started a hate campaign on skinny jeans. That made them fall out of favor and now even designers are shying away from them. Instead, regular cut and wide-leg jeans are what’s in and fashionable this year.

It seems like each year we move closer and closer to bell bottoms. Designers are flirting with the idea but they have yet to dive headfirst into the old ‘60s and ‘70s trend. We can’t wait. Until then, we’ll wear wide-leg or regular cut jeans. However, on rainy days? They’ll have to pry the skinny jeans out of our cold hands.

One of the big textures of the season is fringe. We’re talking about the kind of fringe that moves when you shift your body and shimmies when you walk. Sounds amazing right? Some stylists are choosing to go with full-on fringe dresses while others are choosing accessories like purses or necklaces. 

On top of that, you’ll be totally comfy and cozy! Because colors are also huge, a lot of experts are saying you should get a puffer coat that’s a saturated color. It can be hard to style something like that, so we’d say going with white or black would also be okay. Jackets aren’t cheap, ya know!

Plunging Necklines

It seems like we’ve embraced having a high neckline for too long because we’re happily bringing back a plunging neckline this year. What’s great about plunging necklines is that they can turn any outfit into something beyond sensual. If that isn’t your goal, you can throw something under it like a bit of lace.

Wearing lace under a deep v-cut can make any outfit super delicate and stunning. Alternatively, you can wear a bra top under your plunging neckline. Bra tops are also in, but in a modest way. That’s pretty great for anyone that doesn’t have the body of a 20-year-old. Plunging necklines so versatile!

Trench Coats

We doubt that trenchcoats will ever truly go out of style. Why? Because they're so warm and can be super fashionable. You can dress them up while wearing a dress or down with just a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. Plus, they also keep you super warm.

This year, designers are all about creating a larger silhouette, so they're encouraging people to get an untailored trenchcoat — one that really envelopes you in a comfortable way. However, nothing is wrong with getting a bit of a tailor to a trenchcoat where it hugs your curve and creates a semi-hourglass shape. 

Low-Rise Jeans

This isn’t one we wanted to come back. Girls from the early 2000s almost have PTSD from the low, low rise jeans. Whether we wanted it or not, low-rise jeans are making a strong return thanks to the ‘90s-forward trends. What’s more, they’re almost exactly the same as what we saw back in the day on Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera.

If you don’t have the hips to pull it off (or a little bit of a tummy), you can always wear a tie-dye shirt over your jeans. Keep in mind that if you don’t feel comfortable in the jeans, wear what you want. Since this year is about comfy, you’re supposed to wear what’s most cozy to you.  

Fashion Sweats

Fashion sweats seems a bit like an oxymoron, doesn’t it? How can sweats be fashionable? Well, as ‘90s trends come back in full force, so do things like fashionable athletic wear. Thankfully, we aren’t going to walk around with “Juicy” on our butts like we did in the early 2000s — let's hope this trend never comes back.

Instead, fashion sweats are the new big thing. These are sweatpants and full outfits designed to go out in. They can feature trendy designs (like tie-dye) or use a variety of fabrics to change the texture of the outfit. There are really no rules here, so designers have full freedom. That means you do too!

Finally, Sherpa is back! Everyone get excited! Can you tell that we’re super excited about Sherpa? Why? Well, because it’s the epitome of warmth. On a freezing cold day, a Sherpa coat really hits different. It warms you up without making you look super bulky (like puffer coats often do).

Don’t get us wrong, we love puffer coats, but they don’t create the sleek silhouette that you can get with Sherpa-lined jackets. Alternatively, you can also get a jacket that’s full-on Sherpa. Not only are these jackets warm, but it’s also almost like walking around with a blanket. Who doesn’t want that?

Short Skirts

As we’ve said, the ‘90s are coming back. That also means mini-skirts are coming back but excuse us while we call them “short skirts.” It sort of means the same thing, but the short skirts we’ll be wearing this year aren’t quite what we remember from the Clueless days in the early 2000s.

Sure, these are shorter than the average knee-length version, but they don’t show your bottom when you bend over. That’s not fashionable on anyone. It can be tough for taller girls to get the right combo, but when you do, you’ll love it. Try the short skirt trend this summer. If you really feel uncomfortable, try some leggings under it!

Micro Blazers

This fashion trend is relatively new. In fact, it may take some time to make its way down to stores like Macy's and JC Penny’s but give it time. Micro blazers are shorter blazers that are almost like cropped blazers. They’re also smaller and leaner. They give you a tailored silhouette that can look very professional when styled right.

Thankfully, you can also style them down with a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. Basically, the world is your oyster (or blazer at this point). This year is all about the large silhouette, and micro blazers are the only thing designers are getting tailored. We can certainly see why. 

Chain Belts

Ah, yes, chain belts. We’re going to say chain belts were one of the big reasons a lot of us started to wear brand logos in the first place. Does anyone else remember seeing Gucci chain belts everywhere in the early 2000s? Thankfully, that isn’t the type of chain belt that’s coming back.

This one is updated and features oblong chains for now. Round links will eventually come back, but what really makes this year different from 20 years ago is that there are multiple chains on one belt. The chains cascade down your hip and look grungy and edgy while also looking beautifully feminine. Perfection.

Puffer Coats

Puffer coats are comfortable, and that’s precisely why they’re in this year. Designers wanted to create silhouettes that are big and take up space. Honestly, we can get on board with that. There’s nothing wrong with taking up the space you know you deserve in the world. Um, yeah!

Hair Scarves

Hair scarves are absolutely back in a huge way, but this time it's a little more unique. Sure, some people are still wearing their headscarves as they have all along, but others are actually braiding a scarf into their hair. Yes, you read that right! They're braiding their hair with a scarf entwined in there. 

They do this by separating it out like normal but only having two tufts instead of three. The third strand is replaced by a scarf which is braided in just like hair. It looks amazing, and we're living for this trend. You can thank younger generations for this creative idea.

Pearls used to be considered old and dated. For a while, people decided that they were just for grandmas going to Sunday morning church or lunch with their friends. Now? Pearls are totally in. While some experts say you can just throw on a pearl necklace, others are getting a little more creative with the trend.

Sure, pearl earrings are nice, but pearls on belts or a line of pearls on a blouse? The sky is the limit at this point. Plus, pearls aren’t just for women anymore. Men celebrities (like Harry Styles) are wearing pearls which is sure to make the trend blow up even more.

Platform Shoes

Platform shoes are a tough one. If you can handle platform heels, go for it! They’re certainly en vogue at the moment. However, some of us don’t have the ankle strength to handle platform heels. Thankfully, this trend comes from the ‘90s, so platform sneakers and sandals are also huge.

Some high-end designers like Versace are even choosing to roll with the black platform sandals we all had in the early 2000s. If you want to dress down, don’t be afraid to wear a platform sneaker, either. Just be afraid not to get something too bulky that weighs down your outfit in a bad way.

The color of the year is in and it's none other than purple! The color is called "Veri Peri" to be exact. Designers and stylists alike have decided that this year is going to be all about purple because of it. One look at the runway will tell you that much, and it won’t take long for it to hit department stores.

The good thing about this is that you can play around with the shades. While one of the most popular purples is a bright, saturated purple, you shouldn’t be too afraid to play with pastels or deep, royal purples. Maxi Hemlines

As we get further into the 2020s, the skirts are getting longer. We started with just above the knee, then it got a little longer and went to just below the knee. Can you now guess what’s fashionable? Maxi skirts and dresses! That’s right! The hemline is down to the ground, everyone! Honestly, we’re living for it. 

Something about a maxi dress makes you feel so beautiful in the best way. You feel fashionable without even trying too hard. Throw on a maxi dress, a bold lip, a few accessories, and you’re ready for the day. Button-up dresses seem to be coming back pretty strong, as well, so you can always incorporate this trend with the maxi length.  

Peter Pan Collars

Peter Pan collars coming back is a new trend younger generations are calling “twee.” It sounds all new and unique, but in all honesty, it’s like the hipster of the early 2000s. One of the people that spearhead the whole twee aesthetic is Zoey Deschanel so that tells you exactly what’s “in” as far as fashion.

It’s like manic pixie dream girl meets Chanel. Out of all the collar options, Peter Pan collars have always been our favorite because they’re delicate, feminine, and can go with literally any outfit (other than a T-shirt, at least). Nowadays, you can even get a collar insert to go with your existing closet, so it’s never been easy to hop on a trend. 

Double Necklaces

Double necklaces are back, and we are ecstatic. Back in the early 2000s, everyone wore two necklaces – some people even wore three or four! The only issue was that they tangled up into a mess and it was nearly impossible to get them both off. Thankfully, this year that’s all changing.

Designers noticed the problem and fixed it with one simple change. One necklace can easily look like two! That means they usually have one clasp and won’t get all knotted and twisted up. Everyone should give this trend a shot along with the deep, plunging v-neck trend. These two things go together like peanut butter and jelly.

Love them or hate them, but Crocs are officially back. This year is all about comfy and cozy, and nothing fits this definition more than Crocs. Are they ugly? Absolutely. It’s like someone decided to actually shoot them upon sight, but! They’re also the most comfortable shoes you’ll put on your feet.

All haters should slip them on at least once before saying one bad word. Now, you can jazz up your Crocs by putting charms in the holes. The charms are popping up pretty much everywhere, even Walmart. You can make them look however you want, which makes that a little better, right?

Slim Sunglasses

Slim sunglasses were huge in the ‘90s, so naturally, it’s coming back this year. Thankfully, it isn’t the same old neon sunglasses we had back then. Now, designers have mixed and matched designs with this one. Let us explain: what would happen if you mixed slim sunglasses with aviators? Perfection, duh.

Cat eyes, aviators, shield – it doesn’t matter! We’ve even seen some clubmaster-style mixed with slim sunglasses and it looks super interesting. Take a look at what’s walking on the runway or what celebs are wearing, and you might be a little impressed. Thankfully, they’re also a little bigger than the ‘90s versions too. 

Electric Colors

This year, designers are choosing to play around with electric colors. These are shades that are deeply saturated. We’re talking about primary and secondary shades like red, blue, yellow, green, and the like. For the last couple of years, pastel shades have been the en vogue thing to wear, so this is a huge shift.

Some fashion magazines are saying this is the year of 2011 because of this trend, and we can’t blame them. The outfits we see walking across the runway and showing up in department stores are giving us major déjà vu. We’re not too sure how long this trend will stay but enjoy it while it lasts!

We've honestly always loved tunics mostly because they're super comfortable without sacrificing style. During the winter, you can wear a tunic sweater and in the summer? Grab yourself that sleeveless tunic. You'll look stunning year-round. Plus, they're certainly a lot better for the majority of us when compared to cropped tops (which are also in style this year). 

Tunics can also look incredibly professional, so they're super versatile. Considering '90s trends are super popular, it was no surprise that tunics came back. It was almost like a call back to the time we all wore dresses as shirts. It will only be a matter of time before something like that comes back (although we're hoping it doesn't). 

Anyone else love a bold, powerful lip color? A classic red lip never goes out of style and continues to be fashion-forward, but more colors are getting added to the mix this year because it's all about color. While plum, pink, or orange shades look great, you might try something more dramatic from time to time. 

Black and brown shades are also coming back, but avoid wearing a dramatic eye with a powerful lip. It can look overdone. Someone once said that all you need for the day is a pair of sunglasses and a bold lip, and we couldn't agree more with this statement. Wear those color-saturated lipsticks!

Chunky Sweaters

Sweaters are going to have a serious moment this year, and we aren't just talking about the chunky knit sweaters we've mentioned before. Thin, drapey sweaters are also going to be everywhere for most seasons — no matter how fashionable sweaters are, most of us aren't going to wear one this summer. 

Traditional sweater patterns have a habit of looking effortlessly cool. Try things like cable knit or a button-down cardigan sweater with a pair of jeans or wide-leg pants. If you want something a little more sensual and sexy for a date (lunch or dinner), you could try an off-the-shoulder sweater.
