Stray Kids add Asia, Australia and more US dates for ‘Maniac’ world tour

Stray Kids have announced more stops for their “Maniac” world tour.

The JYP Entertainment act will have back-to-back stadium shows in Jakarta, Indonesia, in November. Then, in February, they will circuit to arenas in Bangkok and Singapore before venturing to Australia for performances in Melbourne and Sydney.

In July, during the U.S. leg of their tour , shows in Atlanta, Georgia, and Fort Worth, Texas, were rescheduled due to three members testing positive for COVID-19. Those rescheduled dates will be part of their loop back to the U.S., and an additional show will be added for the two cities. Ticket details and prices are to be announced.

Live Review: Stray Kids ‘MANIAC’ tour lights up the Rod Laver Arena

' src=

  • February 21, 2023
  • Live Reviews
  • Rod Laver Arena
  • South Korea

Stray Kids

Most concert reviews will typically begin with an introduction of the show, a description of the artist, or maybe a few small observations of the venue. However, to truly articulate the incredible power of Stray Kids and their blockbuster three-hour performance on Friday night, I am compelled to start right at the end.

The electric encore stages were still a vividly fresh memory, the lights of Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena had turned back on, and teams of Stays were grouped around the venue, lengths of red and silver streamers wrapped around shoulders and strewn across the floor. With a ringing in my ears, and the refrain from “ MIROH ” threatening to never leave my head, I felt invigorated – ready to take on the world!

This same energy could only be rivalled by the pre-show buzz as fans of all ages and backgrounds streamed into the arena, holding signs and carrying lightsticks. For some, this was their second time seeing the group, after Stray Kids performed in Melbourne four years ago. For most of those in attendance, though, this was their first real-life K-Pop experience – an amazing adventure in and of itself. There is nothing like the pure, ecstatic, overwhelming joy of thousands of fans experiencing the thrill of live performance, united in their genuine love for their favourite artists. What I was about to witness was nothing short of exhilarating .

Stray Kids

This tour marked Bang Chan and Felix ’s long-awaited return home to Australia. The Sydney locals eagerly shared how happy they were to be back in the country with their team after four years, and expressed their love for Melbourne. Making the most of their familiar audience, the pair also used this as an opportunity to teach the rest of the team some Australian slang. The remaining members found plenty of joy in practising their newly acquired linguistic capabilities at every opportunity, and the feeling was clearly mutual, with every “Aussie! Aussie! Aussie!” met with a resounding and delighted “Oi Oi Oi!”

This energy remained consistent right until the end of the show; agents of chaos, Stray Kids’ cheerful anarchy was tempered by their artistic expression and professional precision.

Stray Kids’ music is a journey of distinctive genres that keep to their signature style. Gritty, bass-heavy EDM songs and spit-fire raps, tender ballads, and bright and flashy pop and dance tracks filled their three-hour setlist, resulting in a carefully constructed blend of their diverse and wildly loved discography. Appropriately performing “ MANIAC ” to open up the show, the group alternated between more recent smash-hits including “ God’s Menu ”, “ Back Door ”, and “ Thunderous ”, as well as fan-favourites “ DOMINO ”, “ ROCK ”, and “ ALL IN ”.

Stray Kids

Conspicuous by his absence, Han was not present towards the end of the show, with the remaining seven members covering for him masterfully until he re-joined the group during the encore. Emphatically apologising to his team and their fans for his absence, he acknowledged that he had become overwhelmed and needed some time to recollect himself. Met with encouraging words from his members and cheers from the audience, his candour was not an isolated incident. In fact, the whole show was underscored by tremendous sincerity. Yes, it was big, brash, and bombastic – the grand stage, multiple screens, rising platforms, giant props, confetti cannons, the live band, the thousands of screaming fans –  but there was also immense humility and heartfelt honesty throughout the show, creating an environment that was comforting and colossal all at once.

And yet, there was no sense of melancholy as the show drew to a close. Rather, there was an atmosphere of immense elation and community; a connection was emphasised throughout the show. It was truly a testament to the universal impact of Stray Kids – their music was made for nights like this.

Stray Kids: MANIAC World Tour, Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne, February 17th 2023 – K-Pop Live Review

Global sensation and one of the most popular and successful K-Pop groups of the 4 th generation, JYP Entertainment ’ s Stray Kids, finally returned to Australia as part of their MANIAC World Tour promoted by Live Nation Australia. Kicking off the first of four sold out Australian shows, Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin, and I.N. performed in Melbourne at the iconic Rod Laver Arena on Friday the 17 th of February.

To explain to the uninitiated, Stray Kids aren’t some ordinary K-Pop group and their whole vibe is about being unique and different. ‘Oddinary’ , is not only a word that they’ve curated representing this and who they are, but it is also the title of their sixth studio EP. Stray Kids stand out due to their multiple talents, their fun-loving personalities, and the fact they write, compose, and produce all their own music.

My Stray Kids journey has been a unique one. I had listened to Stray Kids before, since their debut in 2018, and couldn’t attend their last Melbourne concert in 2019 due to tearing a ligament in my right ankle. But I was not a Stay until Covid and lockdowns happened. I would not have gotten through those last few years of no live music and concerts if not for K-Pop online concerts. But especially because of the consistent and prolific content distributed by Stray Kids .

From their extensive discography ( and I do mean extensive ), official music videos and dance practice clips, to mini episodes, vlogs, ‘making-of’ clips, and cover songs, Stray Kids never lost touch with their fans ( ‘Stays’ ) during the Covid lockdown era and kept fans in the loop while picking up new ones along the way ( especially after winning idol competition ‘Kingdom: Legendary War’ in 2021 ).

So, when Stray Kids announced last year that they’d be returning to Australia in February 2023, I vowed that this time I would not miss them.

In the blistering 40°C, fans across Australia gathered in Melbourne to attend quite literally the hottest concert of the year. Inside the venue, every merchandise stall was open, something I haven’t seen since before Covid, and there were two photo walls available for fans to pose with. Busting onto the stage and igniting an excited crowd that erupted with joy, cheers, and tears ( myself included ), the first Melbourne show launched with ‘MANIAC’ , but every song performed by Stray Kids that night was an absolute pleasure to witness.

Stray Kids have no bad songs. None. Combine that with the technical marvel of a halo of screens, a big stage complete with a cat walk, clever lighting, a ‘giant mechanical spider’, rising platforms, impressive short film quality interludes that had a connecting narrative, phenomenal choreography, smooth dance skills, soaring vocals, a live band, and confetti canons, and it appears that no expense was spared to assist Stray Kids in putting on their best tour yet. I also lost count with how many outfit changes the members had as I was too distracted singing along and dancing to their catchy songs.

Being in Rod Laver Arena felt like one big safety net. It wasn’t just being in the same place as other people who like the same music, although I loved how diverse the audience was across age, race, and gender. But from all the lit lightsticks ( ‘Nachimbongs’ – the hottest ticket item at these shows), and after many years of following Stray Kids from a distance, seeing them and fellow Stays for the first time in person ( and I have met so many lovely Stays this week ), I felt like I was home .

This was cemented during the ‘Loose Screw Game’ in three parts where fans had pose like the photos of the Stray Kids members when the camera fell on them, a ‘Stay Dance Mission’ in the second part where you had to execute Stray Kids dance moves when the camera landed on you ( so many were great too, knowing all the moves ), and last but not least, a ‘MANIAC Scream Gauge’ where an arrow ticked over in colours and moved depending on how loud the audience would cheer. I was so happy just sitting there clapping and cheering for whoever landed on the big screens.

The overwhelming feeling of happiness was enhanced tenfold when Australian members Bang Chan and Felix shared with the attentive and passionate Melbourne audience on how happy they were to be back in Australia and perform here. Having both grown up in Sydney, four years is a long time between dance cards. It was even sweeter that the other members were very empathetic and shared that elation with them, even sharing what they had all done and enjoyed while being in this city. And they were just as happy to see us as we were to see them.

It was also amusing listening to the Aussie Line teach their fellow members on how to pronounce certain Aussie slang words including ‘Struth’ , ‘Crikey’ , ‘Fair Dinkum’ and referencing another phrase that you can say to a ‘good mate’ but is one that they couldn’t actually say on the stage ( for obvious reasons, the moment was still super funny though ), and essentially the wicked banter that the members had amongst themselves was hilarious. This includes Seungmin repeatedly referring to Bang Chan as “Old man” during their unit talk time. I, as well as the rest of the audience were in complete stitches.

When Stray Kids interacted with the audience, it always felt genuine and the perfect combination of chaotic energy and wholesomeness. This was evident when Felix , Changbin , and Hyunjin had a competition to suss out whose side of the audience could scream the loudest and, in the end, declared everyone in the audience as winners. Cheeky and shamelessly sweet. Unfortunately, halfway during the show, Han disappeared ( and he is my bias, so I noticed straight away ) but returned and apologised for his absence, even bowing to different parts of the arena, assuring to everyone that he was okay.

While every song was great live with a combination of fan favourites and hits including ‘Back Door’ , ‘God’s Menu’ , ‘Hellevator’ , ‘Cheese’ , ‘Case 143’ , ‘Side Effects’ , ‘District 9’ , and ‘Miroh’ , it’s difficult to pick highlights as everything about the first Melbourne show and essentially this tour is sensational.

But if I had to choose, highlights include Stray Kids performing ‘Red Lights’ as a group ( usually a unit number between Bang Chan and Hyunjin ) with unapologetically sensual choreography complete with leashes ( I kid you not, I was gaping in awe, and this was only song number 3 of the 3-hour setlist ). The gorgeous modern hanboks Stray Kids wore during their ‘Thunderous ’ performance which was electric ( pun intended ). Seeing the way these costumes moved while they were dancing made the performance even more captivating than it already was.

Changbin killed it when he artfully covered the entire rap back and forth portion of ‘Victory Song’ in Han ’s absence. The gorgeous vocals during the unit ballad ‘Waiting For Us’ serenaded the crowd which responded by waving their lightsticks in unison. The members, only equipped with microphone stands, made sure that every inch of the arena experienced them effortlessly harmonising to ‘Lonely St.’ . And last but not least, my favourite song ‘Star Lost’ from their second studio album ‘No Easy’ getting some love, where the members gleefully jumped around, interacted with fans, and looked like they were living their best lives.

After each taking the time to say their thank-you and farewells, the night ended with ‘Haven’ , more confetti, and while I didn’t want for the show to be over ( they have plenty more incredible songs ), the over 3-hour show had to eventually come to an end. I was grateful, satisfied, and would see them again in a heartbeat. Finally seeing Stray Kids live has cemented me as a Stay and I cannot wait for their next tour already, with Stray Kids assuring Australian fans that they will always come back to Australia.

Needless to say, I loved them. Stray Kids’ MANIAC World Tour is by far the best K-Pop tour I have ever seen. But after all these years of waiting and listening to their growth, I wouldn’t have expected any less and I can’t wait for more from one of the best K-Pop groups in the world.

Stray Kids have one more show in Melbourne tonight at Rod Laver Arena on the 18 th of February, and two in Sydney on the 21 st and 22 nd of February at Qudos Bank Arena. Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell in "Anyone But You."

Anyone But You finally made its Netflix streaming debut, which is exciting news for rom-com fans everywhere. As you watch the movie, you might be wondering where Anyone But You was filmed and if you can visit the breathtaking beaches, cliffs, and other locations in real life.

Loosely adapted from Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing,” Anyone But You stars Glen Powell as Ben, a finance bro who has an incredible first date with Bea (Sydney Sweeney), a law student uncertain about her career. After spending the night, Bea panics and leaves without telling him. When she realizes she made a mistake and returns to his apartment, she overhears Ben saying that she is a “nothing” to him.

Years later, they unexpectedly reunite at a destination wedding in Australia for Bea’s sister, who is marrying Ben’s friend. When their exes show up, they pretend to be a couple—and the rest is history. The film was directed and co-written by Will Gluck, the filmmaker behind rom-coms like Easy A and Friends with Benefits . It was released in December and had an impressive run at the box office, surpassing $88 million domestically and $219 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo .

After its release, the movie went viral on TikTok as audience goers reacted to the film’s credit sequence, which features the cast dancing and singing to Natasha Bedingfield’s nostalgic 2004 hit “Unwritten,” a song highlighted throughout the film. There were also rumors of an off-screen romance between Powell and Sweeney that helped promote the film, as well as the actors’ flirty publicity tour and Sydney Sweeney’s SNL monologue .

Now, Anyone But You is back in the limelight after the film was released on Netflix on April 23, quickly becoming the No. 1 movie on the platform in the U.S. after just one day.

Anyone But You was filmed in parts of Australia around New South Wales and Sydney. Director Will Gluck told The Hollywood Reporter that he wanted the film set in Sydney because he had “really fallen in love with the city” and liked it so much he moved his family there.

“Almost every time you shoot a movie in Sydney, you have to pretend it’s somewhere else and frame out the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. For Anyone But You , I thought, “Why do that?” We actually wrote this movie 100 percent for Sydney — very specific to the destination,” Gluck wrote.

The director continued, “We flew helicopters all over — seeing the city from that vantage point is stunning — and landed one at the Opera House, shut down the Harbour Bridge, filmed at the Queen Victoria Building, and shot for two weeks overlooking Bondi Beach,” he said. “We spent a week on a boat in Sydney Harbour shooting a scene where they’re stranded on a buoy, but you can’t have humans in the water without a shark cage, so we had to have one the whole time. You pinch yourself. It’s so unbelievable we were actually doing these things.”

Here are a few specific Anyone But You filming locations you can visit in person.

Sydney Opera House

The Sydney Opera House is a focal point in Anyone But You. The 20th-century architectural landmark serves as a gorgeous backdrop for big moments, including the end scene when Ben passionately kisses Bea, who is standing at the top of the steps. You can visit the performing arts center for special events and tours.

Marks Park, Bondi

Located in Sydney's northern suburbs, the wedding scene in Anyone But You was filmed at Marks Park overlooking Bondi Beach and the Pacific Ocean. The cliff-top park is open to the public and has fitness stations, a playground, and some shaded areas.

Many of Anyone But You ’s breathtaking beach scenes were filmed around Palm Beach. Director Will Gluck told THR that one of the best parts of filming was on location in Palm Beach, a suburb in the Northern Beaches.

“Our caravans were parked right on the water, and Glen and Sydney and I decided to live there the whole time. We’d shoot all day and all the crew would go home, then we’d jump in the water and have a swim, go to our trailers and have dinner sitting outside,” he said. “It’s one of the most beautiful places in the world, and you normally wouldn’t be allowed to sleep there. It was probably the most fun I’ve ever had filming.”

Jones Bay Wharf

The historic Jones Bay Wharf is another familiar filming location in Anyone But You. The hidden gem in the Pyrmont district is home to fine dining restaurants, charming cafes, and beautiful views the of the city and Harbour Bridge.

While on their way to collect flowers for the wedding, Ben and his friend Pete are seen walking alongside the Queen Victoria Building. The Romanesque 19th-century building is actually a five-level shopping center with fashion boutiques, jewelry stores, cafes, and restaurants.

Anyone But You is now streaming on Netflix.

Tesla Cybertruck in Sydney as part of promotional tour

Elon Musk might be making headlines for all the wrong reasons, but his latest creation had Sydneysiders clambering for a closer look.

Tesla’s wild Cybertruck has landed Down Under.

Local staff drove a left-hand drive version of the angular, futuristic electric pick-up truck around some of Sydney’s best known landmarks to drum up publicity for the opening of a new showroom in Rosebery, in the city’s southeast.

The company is keen to launch the Cybertruck in Australia but is facing regulatory hurdles as it doesn’t comply with some Australian design rules.

However, it is believed the Federal Government, may be willing to make concessions to encourage more car makers to bring out their latest and greatest electric vehicles.

Tesla’s Cybertruck turned heads on a publicity tour of Sydney. Picture: Facebook/Layton Neil Fraser

If concessions are made, the vehicle could make it to Australian showrooms as early as 2026.

But don’t expect to see Cybertrucks replacing Toyota HiLuxes and Ford Rangers en-masse, as the Tesla is likely to be prohibitively expensive.

A local importer this week began selling a locally converted version of the Ford F150 Lightning electric pick-up for as much as $250,000 plus on-road costs this week.

The Tesla will most likely be converted to right-hand-drive in the United States, which will reduce costs, but it will still be priced comfortably into six figures.

In the US it retails for between $US81,895 ($125,500) and $101,985 ($156,000).

The Cybertruck is already listed on the Australian website but not available to order. Australian buyers will have to wait until US demand eases for the truck, which was launched in December last year.

At the vehicle’s launch Tesla founder and chief executive Elon Musk said the truck was a “rare” and “seemingly impossible” achievement.

“I think it’s our best product. I think it’s the most unique thing on the road. And finally the future will look like the future,” he said.

He said the Cybertruck was a “better truck than a truck and a better sports car than a sports car”.

The Cybertruck combines futuristic, stainless steel panels with blistering acceleration and towing ability.

The company claims the truck reaches 100km/h in about 2.6 seconds, which is faster than some supercars.

It’s also bulletproof, according to Musk.

“If Al Capone showed up with a Tommy gun and emptied the entire magazine into the car door, you would still be alive,” he said.

Musk said the truck was also a practical, capable work truck.

“It’s basically an incredibly useful truck. It’s not just some grandstanding showpiece like me,” he said.

The Cybertruck has a payload of “more than a tonne” and a towing capacity of 5000kg. The Toyota HiLux can only tow 3500kg.

The Cybertruck near Circular Quay. Picture: Facebook/Monty Monty

A low centre of gravity made it less prone to rollover than rival pick-up trucks, while it was also safe in a crash, he said.

“If you’re ever in an argument with another car you will win,” he said.

The truck has “steer by wire”, which reduces its turning circle at low speeds.

Tesla plans to produce up to 250,000 units a year by 2025, although it has only delivered roughly 4000 since December last year, all of which have been recalled for a sticking accelerator pedal that could cause unintended acceleration.

It is unknown whether the Australian vehicle, which was registered in Queensland, has had the defect fixed.

These machines might not be your first choice, but their forgotten status means that there are surprising bargains to be had.

With a design reminiscent of Ford’s iconic gas-guzzling “yank tanks,” this ute has been touted as the next essential tradie purchase.

Tradies wanting to do their bit for the environment can now order Ford’s F-150 Lightning pick-up. But they’ll need to have extremely deep pockets.
