What is Meerkat Meals?

With Meerkat Meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner are about to get a whole lot cheaper!

You’re able to eat out as many times as you like for all meals from Sunday to Thursday for a whole year.

You get 2 for 1 on equivalent starters, mains and desserts (cheapest free) at thousands of participating restaurants across the UK.

You are only able to access the Meerkat Meals membership number via the app. You may also need to book at the restaurant to be able to have the offer work (some do allow walk-ins) so it’s best to check on the app before you head out.

You’re able to get Meerkat Meals for free when you buy a qualifying product through Compare the Market.

This includes:

• Life Insurance
• Business, Shop and Professional insurance
• Complete a Credit Card, Loan, Mobile Phone or SIM application

Obviously, if you need a product and it works out the overall best value, then buy it and get Meerkat Meals and Meals as a bonus.

But, if you don’t need anything right now, as an even bigger bonus, I’ve managed to nab Meerkat Meals and Movies for just around £1.

Here’s how I did it!

Cheap Meerkat Meals – One day travel insurance

Buying travel insurance is one of the qualifying products that can be rewarded with Meerkat Movies and Meerkat Meals.

As a really easy and cheap way to get Meerkat Movies and Meerkat Meals rewards, you can pick up a one day travel insurance.

Compare the Market has confirmed that this is covered as one of their qualifying products.

This whole process took me no more than 3 minutes and cost me just £1.05 :)

Head Compare the Market and start a quote for travel insurance .

Here’s what’s worth choosing for a cheap quote:

• Single trip
• In the United Kingdom
• Travelling in the next day or so
• As a solo traveller
• (Leave all the excesses alone)
• Choose no to preexisting medical conditions.

You’ll also need to add in your name, date of birth and email.

Here’s a summary of what I chose:

With the click of a button, the site started to find quotes for me.

I was a little shocked that there were over 100 different options for me to choose from!

Then, within a few seconds, up popped my quotes.

The lowest one was just £1.05.

Usually, when buying insurance, I would check the details of the cover, what the excesses are and what’s not covered, but today I was just after the Meerkat rewards.

Just click through on the cheapest option and you’ll go to the insurer’s site.

There you’ll need to add your details, verify it’s the cover you want and pay.

That’s it! Meerkat for £1

On the flip side of the bargain, the most expensive of the insurers wanted to charge me a whopping £33.28 for a day’s worth of cover…!

However, if you need to get a quote for car, home or other insurance, you could use Compare the Market for that too. When we moved house recently, we got our quote and bought the insurance from them, giving us another 12 months of benefits.

How to use Meerkat 2 for 1 Meals

Now you’ve signed up, make sure to make a note of your policy number. While you may need this *if* you actually need to claim, you need this number to get your Movies and Meals rewards set up.

Download the Meerkat app, sign in and then set up your rewards using your new policy number.

You’ve then got access to Meerkat Meals and Movies for a whole 12 months.

I was able to set up the rewards within seconds of buying the travel insurance.

When it comes to using the Meerkat deal, you can search for a list of restaurants on a map or see them listed out.

Some will allow walks in, but you may need to book in advance – this is shown clearly on the app.

In terms of getting the 50% off discount on your meal, I’ve never needed to say anything when booking or ordering.

When it comes to paying for the meal, I simply open the app, click 2 for 1 in the top right hand corner of the Meals section, choose how many people were dining and show the screen. You don’t need a code like with Meerkat Movies (more on that below).

The bill will be adjusted and you’ll pay so much less!

How much can I save?

There are currently a number of offers running at Meerkat Meal restaurants and food for take out:

• Pizza Delivery: 50% off Pizzas, 7 days a week. £30 min spend. Excl. N.I.
• Dine out – 2 for 1: Selected food, cheapest free. A la carte only. Sun-Thurs. Max 6 people. Kids meals and drinks excl.
• Dine out – 25% off total bill: Days available vary by outlet. Minimum and maximum group sizes apply.
• Delivery and Collection: Specific offer, delivery fees and radius vary by outlet. Card only.

What restaurants do Meerkat Meals?

There are thousands of restaurants across the country that offer 2 for 1 meals with Meerkat.

Whether you want a curry, Chinese food, traditional, sushi, pizza or a burger – and more – they’ve got something for everyone!

Meerkat restaurants include well-known chains like Prezzo and Pizza Hut Restaurants.

From 25 January 2024, you can also get 25% off your total bill with Krispy Kreme, Beefeater and Brewers Fayre.

On top of the bigger restaurants, there are many local and independent restaurants too, so you may have a small, family favourite place you’d love to visit for cheaper.

You can also get 50% off your favourite pizzas from Papa John’s and ​Pizza Hut Delivery when you spend £30, 7 days a week.

You can search on the app for where is closest to you.

As restaurants are reopening, not all may be showing at the moment.

Bella Italia used to be on Meerkat Movies, but is no longer a restaurant that accepts the discount. However, you can get 2 for 1 on meals at Bella Italia with Taste card ( they also have a free trial period at the moment ).

What is Meerkat Movies?

Whenever you take out a qualifying product with Compare the Market, you get rewarded with Meerkat Movies.

This allows you to head to the cinema and get 2 for 1 cinema tickets every Tuesday or Wednesday for an entire year.

The kind of product you need to get includes:

• Purchase : Car insurance, Motorcycle insurance, Van insurance, Contents and/or Buildings insurance, Pet insurance, Life insurance, Landlord insurance or Travel insurance;
• Switch : Domestic energy (gas and/or electric), Broadband, Home telephone or Digital TV;
• Obtain : a Credit card or Loan, Mobile phone contract or SIM only contract;

Meerkat Movies code

When you’ve purchased your product, you will simply be able to tap in the app and a code will reveal itself.

You can get a code from the MEERKAT APP on mobile or tablet, or just visit Your Account when you can find the Meerkat Movies code.

You are only able to use one code each week.

Lots of places currently not taking it. Went to Bar Soba in Leeds, checked on Meerkat Meals, deal was on there, pre booked, put in comment that I want to use meerkat meals. Turned up, was refused, waitress said they don’t accept it.

There are no Bella Italia restaurants offering 2 for 1 in two local cities.

Unfortunately, you’re right. Bella Italia isn’t offering the deal with Meerkat currently. However, if you got a free trial with Tastecard you can get 2for1 on meals through their offer instead.

I did not want anything from Meerkat at the moment and tried the method explained in this blog about applying for travel in this country for one day only in order to obtain the meal 2 for 1 for a year but the cheapest deal that I can get due to Covid cancellations fees which seems to get added on automatically with no way of taking the cancellation fee of is £4.54 not £1.05. Maybe this fact needed adding to this blog so that people are aware.

On the bottom bar of the app, click the knife and fork (meals) and a map will show there restaurants are around you. You can pinch with two fingers to scroll out and move areas. Scroll down on the page and it will list out the restaurants near to where you currently are.

Clever £1 hack that will get you 2 for 1 cinema tickets and meals out this summer

When you take out insurance through Compare the Market, you will automatically get access to Meerkat Movies and Meerkat Meals

Parents and couples can get two-for-one on cinema tickets and meals out by purchasing a £1 insurance policy.

The deal is through comparison website Compare the Market.

When you take out a qualifying insurance through Compare the Market, you will automatically get access to its Meerkat Movies and Meerkat Meals promotions for one year.

The cheapest insurance deal you can currently get costs £1.01 for one-night only UK cover travel insurance from Coverwise or Ergo.

To get these prices, we set our maximum excess as £250, our baggage cover limit at £400 and our cancellation cover at £750.

While this is the cheapest way to unlock the promotion, this insurance policy might not necessarily provide you with the cover you need - so do keep that in mind if you’re genuinely looking for a new policy.

Other insurance products that will help you unlock the saving include car, motorcycle, van, contents and/or buildings, pet, life or landlord insurance.

You can also get it by switching your gas and electricity provider, broadband, home telephone or digital TV.

Meerkat Movies gives you two-for-one on cinema tickets at participating screens - including Odeon and Cineworld - every Tuesday and Wednesday.

So for example, if your an adult taking a child to the cinema, you'll get the child's ticket free.

While Meerkat Meals gives you two-for-one on select meals, or 25% off your whole bill, every Sunday to Thursday.

The types of food on offer will vary restaurant to restaurant - so check first before ordering.

In most cases, kids meals will be excluded on two-for-one restaurants, although they will be included in places offering 25% off.

Meerkat Meals also gives 50% off takeaway pizza from Papa John's and Pizza Hut seven days a week when you spend £30 or more.

Some of the restaurants that take part in Meerkat Meals include Prezzo - you can find the full list on the Compare the Market website.

Generally speaking, it's best to let the restaurant know you plan on using Meerkat Meals before you order your food - just in case there are any issues.

Sadly, some restaurants won’t allow you to use Meerkat Meals over bank holidays, so you may not be able to use it this weekend, which is the second May bank holiday.

We’d suggest calling your chosen restaurant ahead of time or checking the Meerkat Meals app.

Once you’ve completed your insurance policy payment, download the Meerkat Movies and Meerkat Meals app and log in with your email address.

There will then be a code to use for when you want to go to the cinema or cheap cheaper meals.

Once you've got this, you'll have to show it at the cinema cashier point or to the person taking your order at the restaurant.

The Ultimate Guide To 2-for-1 Dining with Meerkat Meals

You might have seen an advert for Meerkat Meals (it’s being heavily marketed). But what exactly is it and how do you get it? 

If you are familiar with Meerkat Movies which grants you 2 for 1 movie tickets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, this concept will be familiar to you. Meerkat Meals grants Compare The Market customers the ability to get 2 for 1 on starters, main courses and desserts across the UK. The offer is valid Sunday to Thursday and you can use it as much as you like for breakfast, lunch or dinner. This is much more flexible than the Meerkat Movies offer.

How I Got Meerkat Meals And Meerkat Movies For £1.17

I had a nice surprise the other day when I found out that existing Meerkat Movies members were automatically given access to Meerkat Meals. I got Meerkat Movies in January this year for 12 months and I got it by spending £1.17 on UK, single day, single person travel insurance through Compare The Market. That was a small investment for a year of 2 for 1 movies.

You can read the detailed article on how I did this here . I am pleasantly surprised that they have given existing members access to this new offer. But I am more surprised that this trick I used still works. Since it has worked for a number of years, I assume that it is not hurting their business. 

How Meerkat Meals Works

Use the meerkat app.

Open the Meerkat App. You will now use this app for both Meerkat Meals and Meerkat Movies. Select ‘Meals’ at the bottom of the screen. Using the next screen, you can find a participating restaurant. Select the one you wish to dine in. 

Book or Walk-ins

If the offer works with walk-ins, it will state ‘Book - Walk-ins welcome’. You can still reserve a table if you wish, just tap on the ‘Book’ button and you can select to call or book online. If you have to book first, it will state ‘Call to Book - Booking Required’. Just tap on the button, the app will remind you to mention ‘Meerkat Meals’ during the call. This is a requirement. When you select ‘Okay, got it!’, the phone number will pop up allowing you to call them. 

Show The Meerkat Meals App When You Pay

When you go to pay for your meal, tap on the 2 for 1 golden ticket at the top right hand corner of the map screen. Input the number of diners and select ‘continue’. You will be taken to the screen shown underneath. Show this to the person serving you when you go to pay. There are some caveats and important points that I have outlined further down this post.  

Some of the restaurant chains which participate in the Compare The Market offer include:

Walk-ins are welcome at all the chain restaurants I found above.

Importantly, it’s not just the chains that participate. Similar to how you can use the Meerkat Movies offer at a number of independent cinemas, Meerkat Meals works at a number of independent restaurants. Therefore, even if you’re planning a meal somewhere more obscure, remember to check the app first.

What Are The Qualifying Products For Meerkat Meals?

A detailed list of qualifying purchases can be found in the Rewards T&Cs section of the Compare The Market website. My article on Meerkat Movies states the cheapest way to become a member if you simply want to make a purchase for the sole reason of getting access to these offers. 

Are Any Days Excluded Throughout The Year?

The offer will not work on Valentines Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Easter Sunday, Easter Monday, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. 

Compare The Market do state that ‘certain restaurants may have additional excluded days during December’. Just make sure you check the app before you book. 

Does This Work In Conjunction With Other Offers?

This is an important point. No it doesn’t. Therefore, it is always good to look for better deals before you go for your meal. You can check websites or apps like the VoucherCodes for better offers. 

What Does The 2-For-1 Offer Actually Apply To?

The offer applies to matching courses (ie. starters, mains or desserts). So if 2 people order 3 courses each, the cheapest of each course will be free. If 1 person orders a 3 course meal and the other orders a main only, only the cheapest main course will be free. The restaurant is responsible for deciding what food counts in each category. 

Is There A Limit To The Number Of People In My Group?

The minimum number of people the offer will apply to is 2 and the maximum number is 6. However, the offer can work on up to groups of 10 in some participating restaurants. If this is the case, it will be stated on the app. 

The combination of Meerkat Movies and Meerkat Meals can potentially save you a lot of money over the course of 12 months. The saving will obviously depend on how often you normally dine or see a movie.

I have found it difficult to beat the Meerkat Movies offer myself. With Meerkat Meals, be aware of other vouchers and offers which might save you more. Any additional offer you can potentially use is good news for consumers in my books.

Price comparison sites are more popular than ever, and it’s hard to remember a time before they were commonplace. Imagine the time and effort it would take to visit several different websites, entering in all your details each time, and having to keep a note to compare prices.

This is just one reason why many people didn’t bother, and just auto renewed their insurance and other financial products, even if it meant they were paying significantly more than they needed to.

Thankfully, price comparison sites have now got us covered, and while some providers such as Direct Line are not on these platforms, it provides an easy way to compare prices and save money.

Indeed, because of their popularity, price comparison sites are now vying for our custom, offering freebies and incentives if we sign up via their site.

What is Meerkat Movies?

Meerkat Movies is the chance to get 2 for 1 cinema tickets every Tuesday and Wednesday all year round when you buy a qualifying product from Compare the market. The tickets are valid for standard 2D showings for adult and child tickets, and in some cases are eligible for senior and student tickets as well.

This is a fantastic saving and one that I regularly take advantage of.

Which cinemas do Meerkat Movies?

Currently, Meerkat Movies is valid at most major chains of cinema, including:

• Picturehouse
• The Light (not all locations included)

Some smaller independent cinema chains such as Parkway cinemas also accept Meerkat movies, but it is always best to check in advance via the Meerkat Rewards app.

What is Meerkat Meals?

In addition to Meerkat Movies, customers will also get access to Meerkat Meals where you can save on dining out on a range of offers, including 2 for 1 on starters, mains and dessert, or 25% off your total bill on varying days of the week.

How do you activate Meerkat Rewards?

Once you buy a qualifying product, click the rewards tab on the Compare the Market website. You will then need to fill in the details of the policy you bought, including the provider and the policy number. Once this is done, you should get instant access to Meerkat Movies and Meals.

Meerkat Movies can be accessed either through the app or the website, but for Meerkat Meals you do need to download the app.

How do you use Meerkat Movies? 

Once you have activated your Meerkat rewards account, head to the Meerkat Movies section of the app or the website and click on the cinema tickets icon to generate your unique code.

This code can then be entered when booking tickets online, or shown in the cinema when buying your tickets. As the Meerkats would say, simples!

How do you use Meerkat Meals?

Meerkat Meals can only be accessed via the app. Once you have downloaded it and logged in to your account, tap the gold membership card in the top right corner and select the restaurant where you are dining.

How to claim at this particular restaurant or takeaway will then be displayed. This will vary especially with independent restaurants. Some require booking in advance in order to use the Meerkat Meals discount. If the offer isn’t valid on the day you are accessing the app, it will warn you, which is handy to avoid any embarrassment at the point of paying!

How do I get 25% off at Cafe Nero?

To claim 25% off at Cafe Nero, there is a separate tab for this offer on the homepage of the app. Tap this to generate a unique QR code which can then be scanned in Cafe Nero. Each code can only be used once.The offer applies to barista made drinks and pastries only, and is limited to 2 codes per day per customer.

Cheapest way to get Meerkat Meals & Movies for one year

Now we’ve gone through all of the benefits to the Meerkat rewards programme, here’s my sneaky tip on how to get a year’s access to it all for just over £1:

• Go to the compare the market app
• Select Travel Insurance
• Select 1 day cover for a UK trip (providing you are in the UK of course!) and select a date for this trip in the near future.
• Provided you are 18-65, enter your date of birth and state that you have no pre-existing medical conditions. (Don’t worry – remember we are not actually using this policy).
• If you do have pre existing medical conditions and don’t feel comfortable about not declaring them, you could always ask a partner or friend if you can buy the policy for them. However, as we will not be making a claim on this policy, not disclosing them will not matter.
• Ensure the voluntary excess is set to the maximum and baggage value compensation is set to the minimum.
• Accept the terms and conditions – again bear in mind we are not really using this policy.
• Select your policy – when I did this in March 2023, the cheapest cover was £1.01!

As soon as I got confirmation for the policy, I was able to click on the Rewards tab and activate my Meerkat Meals and Movies access. Hooray!

A CLEVER trick means you can get a year of 'buy one, get one free' cinema tickets and restaurant meals by paying just £1.01.

The amazing bargain is available thanks to Compare the Market, which offers Meerkat Movies and Meerkat Meals to any of its customers.

The get the incentives you need to do a comparison with Compare The Market and make a purchase.

This means buying insurance, switching energy or broadband and telephone providers or applying for a loan or mobile phone contract.

The insurance products include car, motorcycle, van, contents and/or buildings, pet, life, landlord or travel insurance.

But if you're not keen to switch any of your bills and you don't currently need any insurance cover, you can still get access by finding the cheapest deal available.

A current search shows a travel policy that costs just £1.01 - meaning that's the minimum you can spend and still get access to film and meal freebies for the next twelve months.

Meerkat Movies gives customers buy one get one free on cinema tickets every Tuesday and Wednesday.

While Meerkat Meals offers two for one on starters, mains and desserts in thousands of restaurants.

We tested the comparison site and can confirm it’s possible to buy a 24-hour UK travel insurance policy costing just £1.01 with either Coverwise or Ergo.

You do need to hand over some personal details and select a single trip in the UK for one night only.

To get the cheap policy to show, you need to select:

• A single trip,
• UK destination
• Maximum excess of £250
• Baggage cover of £400
• Medical limits of £4million
• Cancellation of £750
• Single article limit of £200.

While this is the cheapest way to get this promotional offer this insurance policy is unlikely to provide you with cover you need.

If you actually need insurance for a trip, you need to make sure you select the limits and excesses that meet your requirements.

Compare the Market and rival sites can be used to search for a wide range of insurance policies so it’s always best to think about what you might need covering.

Once you’ve completed your insurance policy payment, download the Meerkat Movies and Meerkat Meals app and log in with your email address.

There will be a code to use for when you want to go to the cinema or cheap cheaper meals.

Most Odeon and Cineworld cinemas take part in Meerkat Movies but be sure to use the Compare the Market cinema finder online so you don’t make a wasted trip.

You’ll only be able to use your cinema code once a week.

Meerkat Meals stretches to popular brands including Pizza Hut, Frankie and Benny's, Chiquito, Bella Italia, Zizzi, and Prezzo.

You can use the online restaurant finder to see what's available and make it clear you’ll be using Meerkat Meals.

The types of food on offer will vary restaurant to restaurant although kids meals aren't included.

Hello everyone! Today we’re taking a look to review the Meerkat Meals and Movies app which is a promotion run by UK comparison site Compare the Market .

Meerkat Movies and Meals has come from a memorable (or annoying, depending on perspective) advertising campaign featuring meerkats, hence the slightly odd choice of a name for the promotion!

However, Meerkat Movies in particular offers quite a few strong benefits, so we thought it was worth highlighting these today.

How do I get the Meerkat Meals and Movies app?

In order to qualify to use the Meerkat Movies and Meals app, you’ll need two things.

• You’ll need to have purchased a qualifying policy from Compare the Market . A qualifying purchase consists of one of:
• A purchase of one piece of insurance:   car, van, bike, caravan, taxi, motorhome, home, pet, life, health, over-50s’, income protection, landlord, business or travel insurance.
• Switching one of the following : broadband, home telephone, digital TV, or domestic energy (gas and/or electric).
• An application for one of: a credit card or loan, or mobile phone contract.

2. Once you have made your purchase, you’ll need to download the Meerkat app from your relevant app store and log in to your Compare the Market account.

If you’ve made the qualifying purchase, it’ll automatically register you qualify for Meerkat Movies and Meals.

This qualifies you to access Meerkat Movies and Meals for a whole year. You can access the schemes on the “Rewards” section of the app as shown below:

What is the cheapest way to get Meerkat Meals and Movies?

The length of the insurance you take out with Compare the Market doesn’t affect your eligibility for Meerkat Movies and Meals – you’ll still get it for a year regardless.

As a result, the cheapest way to get access to Meerkat Meals and Movies is to buy a day’s worth of travel insurance, which is somewhere in the £1-3 area.

Even one use of Meerkat Movies to save on a cinema ticket makes this worthwhile – it’s frankly amazing value.

(Regardless, instead of buying a small piece of insurance for the sake of it, it’s always better to buy insurance you actually need!)

What is meerkat movies.

Meerkat Movies is a promotion where on a once a week basis, you can access a code through the Meerkat app which will enable you to get a 2 for 1 cinema ticket, when buying one full price ticket. It’s a great excuse for date night or going to see something with a friend you’ve wanted to catch in a while!

How do I use Meerkat Movies 2 for 1?

Once you’ve got your code from the Meerkat app, go to the website for that cinema and enter the code as a promotional code – some will have a specific section for Meerkat codes. It’ll apply it to your order automatically.

You can also turn up on the day with your code to present it at the cinema.

(Note: Several cinemas do unfortunately now charge a booking fee when reserving online).

What days can I use Meerkat Movies 2 for 1 on?

You can use Meerkat Movies on any Tuesday or Wednesday night.

How many times can I use Meerkat Movies 2 for 1?

You can use Meerkat Movies once a week, and will get a new code every week – you can’t however go on both a Tuesday and a Wednesday in a single week.

Where can I use 2 for 1 Meerkat Movies?

Most of the bigger chains are eligible for Meerkat Movies – Odeon, Cineworld, Vue, Picturehouse, Empire and Reel are options. Whilst the offer is generally for a standard ticket, some premium cinemas like the Odeon Luxe near me do also work.

If you go into the Meerkat Movies section of the app and scroll down to the bottom, you can find a list of your nearest participating cinemas.

Is Meerkat Movies worth it?

Yes absolutely – just one use of Meerkat movies pays off really well and depending on the location of your cinema acts as a £6-£15ish type save, although you can find cheaper independent cinemas sometimes that can still be better value.

Used repeatedly, the value of Meerkat Movies can really add up!

Meerkat Meals

If anyone ever had a Tastecard, Meerkat Meals is similar to that – it offers discounts when dining out at certain restaurants (in fact, the scheme is actually powered by Tastecard and Gourmet Society between them).

You have to be a bit careful with Meerkat Meals, as the validity period isn’t standard, and can vary by the specific restaurant you’re going so, so always check this first.

There is also the option to use Meerkat Meals for pizza delivery, however only at larger spend of over £30. This is treated slightly differently to the rest of Meercat Meals so we’ve expanded on this further down.

How do I use Meerkat Meals?

Go into the Meerkat Meals section of the “Rewards” piece of the Meerkat app. By default, it’ll bring up the closest restaurants to you, but you can adjust the location to any area at the top, or use the search bar just below to try and find a specific restaurant.

Once you’ve decided on your choice, click on the restaurant and it will show you any restrictions on days, number of people allows and what the specific offer is and if you need to book in advance or can walk-in. Check this carefully!

Once you’ve selected, click “use membership card” underneath. It’ll present you with your virtual membership card to present at the restaurant. For some that accept it, it can also generate a QR code.

Whilst you should only have to mention it when asking for your bill, it’s usually best to say you’re using it when booking, just to avoid confusion.

What do I get with Meerkat Meals?

A discount on dining in, which is restaurant specific but usually takes the form of either 2 for 1 on most menu items, or a flat 25% off. Drinks are not usually included in any discounts.

When can I use Meerkat Meals?

It varies depending on the restaurant. Going into each restaurant in the Meerkat app will tell you specific validity, but you’ll find that often Friday and Saturdays are excluded as the most popular days.

What restaurants take part in Meerkat Meals?

It’s largely small independent restaurants – I didn’t find any major chains in the ones around me, but there were some well-rated option.

As such, your experience is likely to vary depending where you are.

How does the Meerkat Meals Pizza offer work?

Meerkat Meals can get you 50% off an order (available for delivery or collection) of over £30 from Domino’s, Papa John’s or Pizza Hut, so covering the three major pizza delivery suppliers!

To get this, go into the Meercat Meals bit of the app under Rewards, and just below the search bar you’ll see an option to select Pizza Delivery.

There’s links within this page that will take you through to the website of your pizza delivery company of choice, and will automatically apply the offer once followed.

You can benefit from this offer seven days a week, at any time.

Is Meerkat Meals worth it?

I’ve found Meerkat Meals less useful as a service, just because the selection of restaurants is still fairly limited. However, if there’s a place you like near new, absolutely worth having what can be a good discount where going.

We think the biggest benefit of Meerkat Meals is actually the pizza offer – if you’re ordering pizza for a family however, the fact that there’s a substantial discount offered on major chains is very worth it and a really good save, especially when takeaway pizzas are expensive. The fact that it’s available seven days a week is particularly generous factor and we give the scheme a major plus for this.

Meerkat Movies and Meals Cafe Nero offer

A more recent addition to the Meerkat Meals and Movies app is a voucher for 25% off Cafe Nero at any time. It’s very easy to use – simply scan the QR code at the till after ordering.

It’s available seven days a week, and the discount will apply to drinks that are made in-store by a barista (I.E you can use it on a coffee, but not a bottle of coke from the freezer) and pastries.

You can use a code twice a day for the discount. If you’re making a return visit on a single day, there’s a button that will allow you to generate a new QR code (as you can’t scan the same one again).

Don’t forget to also scan your Cafe Nero loyalty card if you have one as your purchase will still qualify for this – it’s one of the inclusions in our article on the best loyalty apps in the UK.

Here are the six ways to get 'free' or cheap cinema tickets including mobile reward apps, Meerkat Movies and triple Tesco vouchers.

Film fans can use these tips and tricks to go see the newest blockbusters at Vue, Odeon and Cineworld for a fraction of the price. Amid the cost of living crisis and ability nowadays to watch films through different apps and streaming services, some may question the point of visiting the cinema to watch the latest blockbusters.

However nothing quite compares to watching an exciting new movie in front of the big screen and feeling that togetherness and shared experience. With so many great films including Mario Brothers and Dungeons and Dragons now out at the cinema, now feels like the perfect time to visit

But a trip to the cinema can get expensive when you start adding things like luxury seats or premium snacks. The M.E.N have rounded up some of the easiest ways to get cheaper, or even free, cinema tickets to watch your favourite films.

From tripling your Clucard points to purchasing travel insurance for £1 - here are some of the ways you can save money on your next date night or family film day.

Mobile reward apps

Film fans who are on Vodafone or Three mobile networks have the chance to get discounted cinema tickets via their phone apps. Shoppers who are on Vodafone can get two weekly Vue tickets for just £7 via the VeryMe app.

Customers can use the VeryMe Rewards code to but two Vue e-codes online, which can be exchanged for a ticket when booking a screening online or at a Vue Cinema. The deal is currently running until April 30, but the deal circulates quite regularly so it’s always worth checking the app if you’re planning a trip.

The codes are only valid for one hour after claiming the offer, so be sure to have a movie and date in mind before claiming.

Meanwhile, those who have the Three+ Rewards app can claim one £3 cinema ticket a week , which can be used from Friday to Sunday. Similarly to Vodafone, the code is limited, but expired the Sunday after being issued if it isn’t redeemed. New codes will be available each week until the offer expires, which is currently listed as November 7, 2023 on the Three website.

You can book your cinema ticket online in advance any day of the week using your code but the offer is only available for movies on Friday-Sunday (any time of day). A booking fee of 75p is added for online bookings. Alternatively book in person at the cinema for no booking fee.

Meerkat Movies

Another way to get cheaper cinema tickets is through the Meerkat Movies scheme , which gets you two-for-one cinema tickets every Tuesday or Wednesday for a whole year. Valid at most UK cinemas like Odeon and Vue, shoppers can buy any qualifying product via the price comparison website Compare The Market, to benefit from the scheme.

Some of the qualifying products include certain insurance, switch utilities, or financial products, but the cheapest we’ve found is one night's UK travel insurance for one person, which you can get for as little as £1.01, even if you’re not actually planning a trip - it’s still cheaper than paying full price for a ticket!

After purchasing the qualifying product, shoppers can sign into their Compare The Market account and claim the two-for-one rewards, download the Meerkat app and reveal the weekly codes and present it at the box office, or enter it when you book online.

Supermarket deals

Did you also know that you can snap up cut-price cinema tickets with your weekly food shop? Until July 2, 2023, Asda shoppers who purchase a qualifying pizza meal deal from the pizza counter are eligible to claim either a Sky Store online movie voucher or a Vue cinema ticket for free.

Customers will need to head to the Movie Nights In site to upload a photo of their receipt featuring the £6 pizza deal, which will then be reviewed. If the redemption is successful, the link to the voucher and instructions on how to claim it will be emailed, and customers will have 14 days to redeem it.

Tesco shoppers can also save money on tickets with their Clubcard points. Until June 14, customers can turn every 50p worth of vouchers into £1.50 to use with Cineworld . After June 14, the value will be reduced to £1.

Tesco Clubcard members can select the number of Clubcard vouchers they want to exchange, and can top up the price difference on the cinema website if needed. Shoppers will then receive an email with the partner code, or will receive it in-app within 15 minutes if the order was placed via the app.

Kids offers

At Vue cinemas, families can go to the cinema on weekends from only £2.49 per person as part of their mini mornings. Children and family friendly films run as part of the offer every Saturday and Sunday morning from 10am, plus every day in the school holidays.

Similarly, Cineworld has a family ticket deal where adults pay kids’ prices, valid for groups of four with up to two adults, making for a more affordable trip out for the whole family.

Annual subscriptions

If you plan to go to the cinema on a regular basis it may be worth looking at some annual subscriptions, which you can get at Odeon and Cineworld. The Cineworld unlimited membership enables you to see any film at any time, as many times as you like and is priced from £131.98 for the year.

Alternatively, you can pay monthly from £10.99 per month, but there is a three month minimum subscription. As well as unlimited cinema tickets, subscribers can also get other perks like 10 per cent off snacks, birthday gifts and money off at partner brands.

Tesco Clubcard holders can also put their vouchers toward a membership, turning every £10 worth of Clubcard vouchers into £30 - reduced to £20 after June 14. Odeon also offers a limitless subscription, which is £14.99 a month with a minimum of three

Save on snacks

It’s something of a long running joke in British culture that cinema snacks are not the cheapest - but did you know that there’s no policies against bringing in your own food? Film buffs can bring their own sweets to avoid a costly pick n mix, but there are some exclusions.

At Vue "Guests may not bring or consume any hot food or alcohol purchased outside of the premises” - but cold food/sweets and soft drinks are fine.

Cineworld have a similar no hot food or alcohol policy, allowing you to bring your own food and drink within the guidelines, adding: "We reserve the right to refuse customers entry into the screens with hot food or alcohol bought outside the premises. All our cinemas display the necessary signage, advising customers of this policy."

Finally, Odeon also forbids heated food and alcoholic beverages, but also specifically banned ‘pungent’ food, too - so maybe leave the tuna sandwiches at home.

Alzheimer’s drug’s impact limited in U.S.

Leqembi hit the market a year ago, but it’s been hampered by side effects and insurance coverage.

The first drug shown to slow Alzheimer’s disease hit the U.S. market over a year ago, but sales have lagged, major hospital systems have taken months to start using it and some insurers have rejected coverage.

Doctors also expect some patients will hesitate to take Leqembi due to its limited impact and potential side effects. They say it will take years to learn how best to deploy the drug and that work must be done to improve diagnosis.

“This is the start of a very exciting journey,” said Dr. Ambar Kulshreshtha, a suburban Atlanta family physician focused on dementia patients.

More than 6 million Americans, and millions more worldwide, have Alzheimer’s disease, the most common cause of dementia. There’s no cure, but Leqembi clears a sticky brain protein called amyloid that’s a key indicator of Alzheimer’s.

Studies showed that it can delay the progression of the disease by a few months when given to people with mild symptoms. Some experts say the delay may be too subtle for patients to notice.

The drug also can cause brain swelling and bleeding. Patients need regular brain scans to monitor for that.

The Food and Drug Administration gave Leqembi full approval last summer for patients with early stages of the disease. The federal Medicare program for people ages 65 and over covers Leqembi and the cost of scans needed to diagnose patients.

The drug’s maker, Japan’s Eisai, initially expected to have 10,000 patients taking the IV drug by the end of March. Company executives have since backed off that projection, though they say sales are growing.

Careful approach

Hospitals and health systems have needed more time than expected to set up their systems for delivering Leqembi, said Alexander Scott, an Eisai executive vice president.

“It’s not like we are adding a drug to an existing system,” he said. “They are building the system for the drug.”

The Cedars-Sinai health system in Los Angeles started administering the drug in early March. Getting there required months of meetings to iron out a plan to coordinate diagnosis, treatment and then monitoring for problems.

“We were very careful about it,” said Dr. Sarah Kremen, a behavioral neurologist.

Banner Health in Arizona also recently started using Leqembi at a couple specialty clinics in Phoenix, a spokeswoman said.

“This is a very phased and staged approach,” said Dr. Alireza Atri, a neurologist who has worked as a paid consultant for Eisai. “As we learn more, we’ll expand and extend it.”

The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., started using Leqembi in October, but only for patients who live within a 100-mile radius so it can reach them quickly if they develop side effect symptoms. Doctors evaluate three to five patients every week for potential treatment, Alzheimer’s expert Dr. Ron Petersen said.

Health systems are still trying to understand how coverage for the drug, its infusions and the needed scans works so patients don’t get stuck with bills. That’s a significant variable for a drug that can cost more than $26,000 a year.

An Eisai spokeswoman said nearly three-quarters of commercial plans in the U.S. cover the drug outside Medicare.

But doctors are concerned that coverage still may be tough for some patients, especially those too young to qualify for Medicare.

Insurance denials delayed Scott Berkheiser’s first Leqembi infusion a few months until last December. The 57-year-old Venice, Fla., resident said the drugmaker eventually agreed to give it to him for free while he makes co-payments for the infusions.

“It was a little crazy,” he said. “It seemed like it was kind of a game that must make sense for some monetary reason.”

Shrinking time frame

Getting treatments started on time remains another challenge.

Texas Neurology had 60 patients screened as possible candidates for Leqembi and on a waitlist when the drug launched last year. Only eight eventually started treatment. The rest either declined to take it or had advanced beyond the mild phase of the disease when they were rescreened, CEO David Evans said.

“That window gets very short very quick,” he said.

Doctors say more must be done to quickly identify patients and get treatment started before the disease advances. But that’s a murky process.

If people mention memory trouble, doctors must rule out reversible causes like thyroid problems, vitamin deficiencies, medication issues or depression, Kulshreshtha said. Then memory tests for dementia can take a few visits.

Some patients may be ineligible for Leqembi because it would conflict with medication they already take to prevent strokes.

And then getting in to see a neurologist who prescribes the drug can take months.

Those who make it to the first infusion say the treatment process is manageable. Berkheiser said infusions have gone “like clockwork” since his delayed start.

He fits them in between his work as an engineer and training six days a week to compete in an Ironman triathlon.

More work to be done

Treatment access may improve over time. The FDA is reviewing another potential treatment that targets amyloid protein, Eli Lilly and Co.’s donanemab. Eisai is planning to seek approval for an injectable version of Leqembi that would be easier to use. Blood tests may eventually speed up amyloid detection.

But researchers say there’s still a long road ahead. It’s not clear what causes Alzheimer’s disease, and many think combination treatments will be needed to stop it.

“We still have a lot to learn about Alzheimer’s,” said Dr. Eric Widera, a geriatric specialist with the University of California San Francisco. “It’s complex, and it’s much more than amyloid.”
