A passport holder is an essential item for the organized, put-together traveler. It offers a convenient way to protect your most important identity document, while also adding style points and an opportunity for personalization. These days, passport holders are typically much more than a simple protective sleeve. They often incorporate other features such as storage for essentials, including your bank cards and boarding pass, as well as RFID-blocking technology to minimize the risk of identity theft.

From smart leather splurges and crossbody solutions to budget-friendly purchases, the TripSavvy team put 15 popular passport holders (most of them wallet-style) to the test. Over the course of at least two weeks, we evaluated and scored each one for capacity, ease of use, quality, and value based on their performance in real-life travel scenarios. Our favorites are included below.

How we tested.

  • What to Look For

Why Trust TripSavvy

Best overall, baphity genuine leather passport holder.

  • Capacity 5 /5
  • Ease of Use 5 /5
  • Quality 5 /5

Quality materials and construction

Slim profile

Ideal amount of space

Card slots can be stiff at first

Scoring perfect fives across our testing board, the Baphity Genuine Leather Passport Holder impressed us with its sturdy construction and high-quality materials. Made of 100 percent bovine leather with a smart, pebbled finish, we felt it could easily pass as a much more expensive product from a top-tier travel brand. It offers excellent value for money (and in fact, we decided after testing that we would happily pay quite a bit more for it). An RFID-blocking lining is included for your peace of mind.

Other features include slots for your air ticket, two SIM card pockets, and slots for three regular bank cards. The wallet also has a clear 4-inch by 3-inch slot perfect for immunization or medical cards that you need to keep visible. We found all slots very secure (so much so that it was a little tricky getting cards in and out until the leather had been broken in) and felt that the wallet offers the perfect amount of space. We loved its small size and slim profile. Choose yours with or without a zipper in a range of colors from pine green to wine red.

Best Budget

Tigari passport and vaccine card holder.

Simple yet chic design

Includes a convenient pen

Able to fit all travel essentials easily

Relatively large

Crafted from weather-resistant PU leather with a magnetic snap closure, the Tigari Passport Holder felt and looked much nicer than we expected given its budget price. We liked the simplicity of its design, with a slip-in section that held our passport securely and a clear window perfect for displaying an immunization or ID card. The wallet also features four bank or business card slots, a larger section for travel documents or cash, and two SIM card slots. We found we were able to fit all of our essentials with space to spare.

One of our favorite features was the included pen, perfect for filling in immigration documents on the go. This does add to the overall size and bulk of the holder, though, which means we’d be unlikely to use it as our everyday wallet (we found it difficult to fit into a small backpack compartment). Nevertheless, it’s perfect for travel especially because it uses RFID-blocking materials that protect your personal information from potential cyber theft. There is a diverse color selection to choose from, including rose gold, teal, matcha green, and more.

Size: 0.7 x 4.6 x 5.7 inches | RFID-blocking: Yes | Weight: 2.4 ounces

Best Splurge

Lucrin geneva passport travel wallet.

Gorgeous, high-quality aesthetic

Can accommodate a phone or Kindle

Customization options

On the larger side if you’re looking for something compact

Available in five styles of genuine leather from granulated to crocodile-style calfskin (the cheapest of which is more than 13 times the price of our overall winner), the Lucrin Passport Travel Wallet is certainly a luxury item for wealthy travelers that have literally everything else or a high-end gift. However, after testing, we can confirm that the quality is extremely high, with a buttery feel, perfect stitching, and a sturdiness that suggests this is a one-time investment that will last many years. The wallet comes in a rainbow of colors from lavender to tan or turquoise, and for an additional fee you can have yours monogrammed, change the thread color, or add RFID blocking.

More than a passport holder, it’s really a slim, elongated wallet with space for all your essentials. It has 13 credit card pockets, three loyalty card pockets, slots for your passport and boarding pass, and a zippered pocket for cash. We loved the all-in-one nature of this holder, which we found could even fit a phone or slimline Kindle. You could use it on its own or fit it into a medium-to-large purse or backpack. Despite its large size, we didn’t find it cumbersome on any of the four flights we took it on. The organization is intuitive and we appreciated the sense of security offered by the zippered section and button latch.

Size: 9.8 x 9.1 inches | RFID-blocking: Optional

Melsbrinna Waterproof RFID-blocking Travel Wallet

Excellent value

Huge choice of colors and prints

Compact yet spacious

Nothing yet!

We were pleasantly surprised by the sturdy build and quality feel of the Melsbrinna Waterproof Travel Wallet, despite it being made of faux leather. We felt it was worth considerably more than its budget price, making this a stylish steal. It scores extra points for aesthetics by coming in almost every color imaginable from burgundy to mint green, as well several prints including panda and blossom. The holder is secured by a magnetic snap button closure and features RFID-blocking technology.

Storage includes a passport sleeve, which held our passport securely, but still allowed us to remove and replace it easily at airport security. The wallet also has four bank card slots; two SIM card slots; a larger section for holding boarding cards or cash; and a page-style, dual-sided clear plastic slot perfect for your driving license or state ID. We loved this product’s small size (we easily fit it in a fanny pack). We also loved that, despite its diminutive nature, we were able to fit everything we needed even when using it as our everyday wallet for three weeks.

Size: 0.7 x 4.7 x 5.7 inches | RFID-blocking: Yes | Weight: 3 ounces

Best Crossbody

Pacsafe rfidsafe v150 rfid-blocking compact organizer.

Recycled materials

Cut-resistant, reinforced strap

Well-organized interior

Relatively expensive

The crossbody Pacsafe RFIDsafe V150 Compact Organizer scores sustainability points by using post-consumer recycled polyester (equivalent to five plastic bottles). The water-repellent, hard-wearing fabric and quality finishes, such as smooth zippers, makes the organizer well worth its higher price tag. The material is also RFID-blocking for added peace of mind, while the detachable strap is reinforced with Dyneema for cut-resistant durability.

We loved having a shoulder strap because it kept the organizer accessible during our tests and minimized the chances of accidentally leaving it behind in the airport terminal. Inside, it offers a secure mesh passport holder, six card slots, a slip pocket for your boarding pass, a pen loop, and a key attachment point. There’s even a zippered section for your coins or bills. We were able to fit all our travel essentials and liked that the organizer is capacious enough to use as a standalone bag, but also compact enough to fit inside a larger carry-on. It comes in one color: black.

Size: 0.8 x 4.9 x 6.7 inches | RFID-blocking: Yes | Weight: 4.8 ounces

Best for AirTag

Normest airtag travel wallet.

  • Capacity 4.5 /5

Slim, compact size

High-quality, sustainable leather

Fits two passports

For the tech-savvy traveler (or just one that’s prone to misplacing their valuables), we present the Normest AirTag Travel Wallet. It’s crafted from environmentally certified leather with seamless stitching, and—in an innovation that we had never seen before prior to testing—is designed for Apple AirTag integration. That means that you can slip a tag into the purpose-built pocket, then use your phone to ring and locate the wallet if you lose it or look up where you last had it on a digital map.

This RFID-blocking holder is just a little bigger than a passport, resulting in a slim, compact product that adds barely any weight to your carry-on or purse. Your passport fits on one side, and on the other there are four card slots and a slip pocket that together provide space for up to 12 cards and 20 bills. We appreciated that you can just about fit a second passport and still fasten the clip closure—a nice touch if you’re used to looking after your loved one’s passport for them when you travel together. Finally, this product is made to last and backed by a lifetime warranty.

Size: 0.4 x 4.1 x 5.5 inches | RFID-blocking: Yes | Weight: 1.9 ounces

Best for Families

Valante travel document organizer.

  • Ease of Use 4.5 /5

21 pockets and slots

RFID-blocking, water-resistant fabric

Wrist and crossbody straps

Only one color choice

May be too large for smaller families

If you have a large family and they all give their passports to you to look after en route to your destination, the Valante RFID Passport Holder Wallet could be your new best friend. It’s made from RFID-blocking, water-resistant Oxford fabric and it’s large enough to accommodate up to six passports. In addition to six passport sleeves, the book-style wallet offers two slip pockets for boarding passes or bills, two dedicated SIM and memory card pockets, and two large zippered pockets perfect for coins.

There’s also a zippered phone pocket and two letter-size document pouches on the exterior for quick-access essentials. We found that we had ample space for everything we wanted to take with us. The extra room is nice to have; however we did feel that the wallet runs the risk of being too large for smaller families. We loved that it has removable wrist and crossbody straps, and the sturdy, stylishly pale gray fabric is appealing. Your purchase is protected by a one-year warranty and a 60-day money back guarantee.

Size: 1.2 x 5.9 x 10.6 inches | RFID-blocking: Yes | Weight: 9.1 ounces

We love the Baphity Genuine Leather Passport Holder for its quality construction, gorgeous colors, slim build, and clever organization features, all of which are offered at a very reasonable price point. For a truly budget option, go for the chic, conveniently designed Tigari Passport Holder .

For this round-up, we tested 15 passport holders and scored each one on a scale of one to five for capacity, ease of use, quality, and value. We then used overall scores to select our category winners. Scores were based on the real-world experiences of our team of travel experts, who traveled with or used the holder as their everyday wallet at least three times over a period of two weeks. We evaluated how well our passports fit into each holder, their capacity for other essentials, the quality of materials, and any notable design features.

What to Look for in a Passport Holder

Intended use.

Passport holders fall into two main subcategories: simple protective sleeves that act as a weather- and spill-resistant cover for your passport only, and wallet-style holders that typically provide space for other essentials as well. Which is the better choice depends on your personal preference. If you already have a trusted carry-on, purse, or backpack to conveniently store the rest of your travel necessities and purely want to keep your passport in tip-top condition, a protective sleeve may be all you require. However, a wallet-style holder lets you keep everything in one place and may allow you to streamline your packing so much that you can use it as your primary personal item or carry-on.

Passport holders come in a variety of fabrics: most usually leather, faux leather, or polyester. Whichever you choose, look for quality materials built for long-lasting durability with reinforced seams and straps (if applicable). Leather is often perceived as the sturdiest and most stylish option, but can be expensive. There are good plastic-based, faux leather options out there that offer the same aesthetic for a fraction of the price while also scoring better in terms of sustainability and animal ethics (depending on their construction). RFID-blocking lining is a bonus for anyone concerned about cyber identity theft.

Passport holders keep precious documents protected and secure while traveling. However, be prepared to remove the passport from its case or cover when presenting it to customs officials.

Many passport holders do more than hold a single document. They contain extra slots and pockets for credit cards, IDs, cash, credit cards, and/or vaccination documents. You may find better peace of mind knowing that all your important documents are stored in the same place.

Many passport holders help store the document discretely and away from  pickpockets’ sticky fingers . If you’re opting for a passport cover instead of a holder, plan to keep your passport in a difficult location for thieves to access. For example, if you carry it in your purse or a backpack, zip it into an internal pocket. Don’t carry it loosely or in an external bag pocket.

You should also keep backup copies of your passport’s identification pages. You can do this by taking pictures of the pages with your smartphone or photocopying hard copies. If you keep a hard copy, store these documents separately from your passport. Don’t keep them with the original in your passport holder.

Travel + Leisure / Morgan Ashley Parker

Not to be dramatic, but losing a passport or other travel documents can be a huge nightmare while traveling. To safeguard passports, credit cards, and boarding passes, we recommend using a passport wallet to keep everything organized in one spot.

We researched and tested 16 passport wallets in various sizes and materials to recommend options that fit the needs of all types of travelers. We paid close attention to traits like capacity, durability, functionality, and organizational features to ensure smooth travels. Keep reading to find out which ones surpassed our expectations during testing.

Best Overall

Leatherology zip around travel wallet.

  • Capacity 5 /5
  • Ease of Use 5 /5
  • Quality 5 /5

The exterior zipper adds an extra layer of security to keep passports and credit cards safe while traveling.

It might be too large to fit in a smaller purse or sling bag .

While most passport wallets we tested have a snap-closure, this one has a zipper that wraps around the entirety of the wallet to ensure a passport and other travel essentials remain safely tucked away in transit. The versatile design is so spacious that it can easily hold multiple passports, up to eight credit cards, cash, and coins without feeling bulky or cumbersome to carry. There’s even an exterior pocket for boarding passes so you don’t have to open up the wallet for access. It might be too big to fit in small purses, but the sleek leather look and larger size makes it possible to carry it as a clutch or place into a backpack or tote bag, if needed.

Bellroy RFID Travel Wallet

The wallet easily fits in a back pocket.

The wallet will be bigger if it’s packed full and may not fit then.

Minimalist travelers will appreciate the sleek and simple design of Bellroy’s RFID Travel Wallet. We dubbed it our favorite slim option since it can fit virtually anywhere, including in a back pocket (just be sure to take it out of your pocket before going through security). Made out of a soft and durable leather, it never scuffed or scratched while traveling and it looks premium on the outside. The wallet has pockets for a passport, cash, credit cards, and plane tickets, and we love that there aren’t so many pockets that items get disorganized or lost in the void. The best part is that it opens like a standard wallet so we could quickly grab our passports and credit cards while traveling.

Best for Families

Valante travel document organizer.

  • Ease of Use 4.5 /5

It has pockets for multiple passports, plane tickets, and cash.

The large capacity might be too big for solo travelers.

Family travel can be hectic, so we recommend this spacious wallet that can keep all of your family’s important documents in one safe spot. Designed to store multiple passports, credit cards, plane tickets, and more, there are tons of pockets to place items neatly. There’s even a key leash, two zippered pockets, a pen holder, and two designated slip pockets for boarding passes in the front of the wallet. Because the wallet is on the larger side, we love that it comes with a wrist strap to hold onto it while going through customs or the TSA security line. The size might be too large for solo or minimalist travelers, but it works perfectly for staying organized while traveling in groups.

Best Faux Leather

Melsbrinna waterproof rfid-blocking travel wallet.

The PU leather material feels just as soft and durable as regular leather.

The clear plastic window pockets could scratch over time.

Similar to our overall pick, this passport wallet isn’t made out of genuine leather, but it has the same premium look and feel. Made with layers of PU leather, there is a piece of RFID-blocking fabric sandwiched between the material for extra protection while traveling with chipped documents. This sleek wallet comes with all of the standard pockets for a passport, credit cards, and boarding passes, but there were several other features that made it stand out in testing. We are big fans of the two SIM card slots and two plastic window pockets for extra organization for international travelers. Our only concern is that the plastic might scratch or wear over time, but it depends on how often you use the wallet and care for it.

Best Color Options

Lucrin geneva passport travel wallet.

The sleek and spacious wallet comes in over 21 colors and five leather texture options.

The premium materials come with a higher price.

One of our favorite leather passport wallets we tested, this one from Lucrin impressed us with a variety of color and texture options to please any and all travelers. There are over two dozen color options available and five different leather textures to choose from, including smooth, granulated, square granulated, vegetable tanned, and crocodile patterned. Once you narrow down your desired color and texture, we’re confident travelers will love the luxurious feel of the premium leather and generous capacity of the snap-closure wallet. It features several slip pockets, thirteen credit card slots, and a large zippered pocket for storing smaller items like coins or a pen. While the price is on the higher end, we believe you get what you pay for with this made-to-last passport wallet.

Best Crossbody

Pacsafe rfidsafe v150 rfid-blocking compact organizer.

It comes with a removable strap to keep the wallet attached to your body.

The strap isn’t adjustable.

A lost passport can put a huge damper on a trip, so we recommend the Pacsafe RFID-blocking wallet with a removable crossbody strap for keeping your travel documents attached at the hip (literally). You can wear the strap across your body, on your wrist, or through a belt to ensure the wallet is securely fastened on the go. Besides the ability to wear the wallet as a purse, we love all of the slip and zippered interior pockets for a passport, credit cards, cash, or coins, which will keep you plenty organized. The nylon material is water-resistant with a thick and durable feel, so we expect this wallet will stand the test of time.

Best Budget

Tigari passport and vaccine card holder.

The high-quality materials and functionality of this wallet are unbeatable for the low price.

It feels a bit big to carry around.

If you’re trying to build a luggage capsule for traveling, this budget-friendly passport wallet makes a useful addition for all types of travelers. Although the wallet comes at a lower price, it doesn’t lack durability and quality of materials. The PU faux leather case comes in a variety of neutral and bright colors, and it has sleek embossed wording on the front. The case opens up to reveal tons of organizational features for one passport, four credit cards, two SIM cards, and a slip pocket for cash. All of the pockets make it easy to grab travel documents quickly and the larger case keeps everything safe from damage during transit. The wallet is on the bigger side, so it might not fit in smaller purses , but it should fit in a backpack or personal item without any issues.

Best Organization

Baphity genuine leather passport holder.

There are a variety of slip and zippered pockets available.

The card slots can be tight at first.

This genuine leather passport wallet is the best option for travelers prioritizing organization. Designed to store a passport, vaccine card, cash coins, boarding passes, and SIM cards, the wallet is bursting with pockets to efficiently organize items. After we filled it with travel documents, we were impressed with how slim and compact the wallet remained. The leather material is high-quality and durable, and we think the wallet has an excellent value for the construction and price point. We ran into slight issues with the card slots being a bit tight at first, but the material loosened up with more use, which made it easier to pull the cards in and out quickly.

Best AirTag-compatible

Normest airtag travel wallet.

  • Capacity 4.5 /5

The wallet has a designated pocket for storing an Apple AirTag for tracking and locating.

It has a smaller capacity.

Tracking devices can be a game-changer if your luggage gets lost, so we recommend this AirTag-compatible wallet. While the AirTag is sold separately, the wallet does come with a secure slot on the outside to discreetly store the tracking device. The genuine leather material is sleek and soft, and the wallet has a slim design that makes it easy to place it in a back pocket or small bag. It can fit a passport, three credit cards, and some cash before running out of room, so if you’re looking for a spacious wallet, this isn’t the best option. However, sometimes it’s better to be safe than sorry, so this is a great option for AirTag enthusiasts .

Most Stylish

Away the passport wallet.

It's compact enough to fit inside any sling bag, fanny pack, and even some pant pockets.

It's a bit small and really only fits your passport and a few cards.

This compact passport wallet has a slip pocket on the front for a passport and the side opens up to reveal several credit card slots and a bit of room for cash or a plane ticket. While the side pocket doesn't have a zipper, it is tight enough that all of our items felt secure and nothing moved when we shook the wallet vigorously. We love that the small size means you can fit this passport wallet in any bag and even some pant or coat pockets for quick access. We used this throughout six flights and it was never a hassle to get the passport in and out of the case, even while in a hurry. The black leather is very sleek and feels high-quality and hasn't scratched at all throughout our months of travels. For Away fans looking for a passport wallet to complete your matching style set, this is an absolute essential.

Other Passport Wallets We Liked

There were several passport wallets that almost made our list of winners, but we ran into some slight issues during testing.

Royce Vaccine Card and Passport Wallet : The wallet has a simple and functional design, but the price is fairly high for the smaller capacity and lack of extra organizational features.

Walnew AirTag Passport Holder : It has plenty of room to fit all necessary travel documents and it comes with an AirTag leash, but we liked that the other tracking device-compatible wallet we tried holds the tracker more discreetly.

We researched and selected 16 passport wallets to test out while traveling and in everyday scenarios. From busy TSA security lines to shopping and sightseeing, we made sure the best wallets make it easy to pull out passports, credit cards, IDs, and cash when you’re in a hurry. We paid close attention to the capacity and noted how efficient the organizational features are for storing essential travel documents. Since travel can take a toll on luggage and accessories, we judged the overall quality of the materials and stitchwork to gauge the longevity of each wallet.

Tips for Buying a Passport Wallet

Check the dimensions of the wallet.

Passports from around the world feature the same design and size, but you’ll still want to make sure a passport wallet fits your size needs. Some wallets are designed to just be slightly larger than a passport and others will be large enough to fit the length of a boarding pass. It depends on the space you’ll have in a bag, pocket, or backpack, so you’ll want to consider how to store the wallet while traveling before making the purchase.

Decide how many compartments you need

Passport wallets are typically designed to hold a passport and a few credit cards, but some are equipped with more organizational features. The bigger the wallet, the more room and storage options there will be for multiple passports, credit cards, cash, and boarding passes. Extra features to look for include interior zippered pockets for coins, SIM card holders, and plastic window sleeves for IDs or vaccine cards.

Look for additional security features

Sometimes it’s better to be safe than sorry, so you may want to consider getting a passport wallet with an AirTag holder (AirTags are usually sold separately) to track the wallet in case it goes missing. Other security measures can include a wrap-around zipper to ensure passports and credit cards are secure and layers of RFID-blocking fabric to prevent cyber pick-pocketing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Security and customs lines can be stressful, so it’s important to have your passport and other necessary documents out of any wallets or cases and ready to go. This will save time and make it easier to hand the documents over to an agent to speed up the process and eliminate unnecessary stress while traveling.

Radio frequency identification or RFID is technology commonly used in credit cards and passports to locate information and data quickly. It is possible to steal data from RFID documents, but there are some passport wallets with a fabric layer to block radio waves from transmitting. Although it’s uncommon for data to be stolen via RFID, the layer of fabric offers extra security and is designed to prevent criminals from taking information while traveling.

Identify Your Bags Every Time with Personalized Luggage Tags

Ensure travel goes as smoothly as possible by taking care of all the details in advance, like identifying your luggage before you leave. Personalized luggage tags make it easy to spot your suitcases or confirm they're yours and get them back to you if they end up somewhere else. And while they serve an important practical purpose, they're highly stylish, too. Match yours with the rest of your luggage collection and your favorite travel outfits to show off your good taste while traveling. If you travel in a pack or have a friend who's always taking off, personalized luggage tags make thoughtful gifts, too.

Custom Luggage Tags Make Life Easier

The main reason for investing in personalized luggage tags is how much more convenient they make life on the road, on the rails, or in the sky. With just a simple flick of a privacy flap, anyone who needs to identify your luggage now can, quickly and accurately.

  • If you travel with your family frequently, you probably made sure everyone had matching suitcases . Create an easy spotting system by choosing personalized luggage tags in a new hue for everyone in the family.
  • On the rare occasions you have to hit the baggage claim office to grab a rerouted suitcase, your luggage tag is one of the ways officials know luggage is yours.
  • Same goes for hotels where a bellhop takes your bags. Avoid confusion on the luggage cart with easily identifiable luggage.

Coordinating Your Luggage and Travel Gear

Make the effort to coordinate your luggage and the rest of your travel gear. For instance, a monogrammed passport holder and luggage tag gives you a polished, elegant look in airports and other ports of entry that won't go unnoticed.

  • Pair your luggage tags with your suitcases. Saddle brown or baseball glove leather matches the trunk straps on wheeled suitcases for a coordinated, sophisticated aesthetic.
  • Add a little dimension to the look with on-trend camo tags in green and brown shades. This classic pattern is recognizable from afar and gives your luggage a rugged edge.
  • Choose passport holders in bright colors to offset or act as an accent color. Personalize yours with initials in the lower corner.

Personalized Luggage Tags as Gifts

Custom luggage tags make awesome gifts for the travelers in your life, too. Give one to a trusted colleague as you embark on an important business trip together or get matching tags for everyone in a wedding party on the way to a destination wedding. Send a happy couple on their honeymoon or wish a bon voyage to a friend taking a milestone trip.

These Passport Holders Get Our Stamp Of Approval

Your passport to organized travel.

by Emma Treagus Published on February 8, 2024

At Luxe Digital, we independently research, review, and recommend products we love and that we think you will love, too. Learn more about how we curate the best products for you .

Whether you’re a seasoned jet setter or a first-time flier, travel anxiety is real. It’s packing a week in advance. It’s setting your alarm five times, just in case you sleep through the first four. And it’s power walking through the airport even though you’re three hours early.

While we can’t promise that a passport holder will get you to the boarding gate on time, we do believe that the right one has the uncanny ability to alleviate some of the stress we feel while queuing to go through security.

What do we mean by the right one?

The best passport holders are organized and compartmentalized. They’re easily accessible and fumble-free. They’ve added extra security measures so that you don’t have to worry about digital scammers. They’re lightweight and comfortable to carry. And, of course, they’re a stylish addition to your snug travel set.

Crossing borders and clearing customs, we’ve gone the extra mile to unearth the brands that we believe will go places (literally and figuratively speaking.)

Here are our top passport holders—the ones that received our much sought-after stamp of approval.

Why you can trust Luxe Digital? As travel enthusiasts and frequent flyers ourselves, we know a thing or two about luxury travel .

As a digital nomad, I’ve personally tried dozens of the most popular passport holders, paying close attention to organizational features, security, and design.

For more on how we tested our best passport holders, see our buyer’s guide at the end of this article. And for more on how we test products in general, see our  HAPPY philosophy for buying luxuries.

The 9 Best Passport Holders

Vaultskin kensington passport holder.

best passport holders vaultskin kensington passport holder - Luxe Digital

In our opinion, the Vaultskin Kensington passport is one of the most sophisticated, stealthiest passport holders. It’s sleek and slender, taking up very little of our precious packing space, while still making room for all the essentials. And it features enhanced RFID-blocking technologies—for us, an essential to a worry-free experience.

Crafted from premium, durable leather, the RFID passport holder is designed to outlast countless excursions. Plus, the Vaultskin Kensington is the kind of elegant travel accessory that we’re proud to whip out at the boarding gate.

Best for: Crossing borders with extra security.

Cuyana Pebbled Passport Case

best passport holders cuyana pebbled passport case - Luxe Digital

Like everything from Cuyana that we own and love, this is a gorgeous leather passport holder that we’re proud to display. Minimalist yet luxurious, the simple design speaks to our commitment to buying fewer, better things. While the quality and durability of the travel accessory are evident in its impeccable stitching and careful attention to detail.

Made from sustainable Italian leather, the Cuyana Passport Case is the perfect gift for seasoned travelers. It even comes with the option for personalized monogramming—a sentimental detail that we seldom can resist.

Best for: Making essentials decadent.

Vincero The Passport Wallet

best passport holders vincero the passport wallet - Luxe Digital

You might recognise Vincero for their affordable watches (we told you all about them in our Vincero watches review ), however did you know that the brand also makes some seriously good accessories too? If you’re a traveler who prefers to keep all your cards and documents in one place, the Vincero Passport Wallet is the perfect accessory. With smaller slots for cards, cash and boarding passes and a bigger sleeve for the passport, you won’t have to worry about keeping track of a wallet and passport holder while on the move.

While it’s often considered the best passport holder for men, we can’t see why women wouldn’t appreciate the minimalist Vincero Passport Wallet just as much.

Best for: A multifunctional all-in-one travel accessory.

Bellroy Travel Folio

best passport holders bellroy travel folio - Luxe Digital

Multifunctional with many additional features, the Bellroy Travel Folio is a testament to the brand’s innovative approach to seamless travel.

The first thing we noticed was that the passport cover had effective RFID protection, alleviating the stress of digital scamming. We also appreciated the smaller details, such as SIM and ejector pin storage, as well as a micro pen. These may seem like tiny details, but they really do make all the difference when arriving in a new country after a sleepless night.

Made from eco-tanned leather, the Bellroy Travel Folio is also sleek, organized and sustainable, making it the perfect gift for eco-conscious travelers.

Best for: Preventing tired mishaps.

Harber London Passport Wallet

best passport holders harber london passport wallet - Luxe Digital

As big advocates of the British brand, we love all the things Harber London , including the brand’s gorgeous designer passport holder. Handcrafted from full-grain leather, the sophisticated travel accessory reflects the level of care and attention to detail that goes into every Harber London product.

Looks aside, the Harber London Passport Wallet is also one of the most practical accessories we tried. RFID-blocking technology provides peace of mind against data theft. The magnetic closure keeps documents secure but easily accessible. And the cardholder design means that you don’t have to carry an additional wallet.

Best for: Fashion meets functionality.

Away Passport Wallet

best passport holders away passport wallet - Luxe Digital

When packing for a big trip, it’s easy to get carried away. Which is why we love a sleek leather passport holder to keep us in check, such as this one by Away .

With just enough room for the essentials, the travel wallet has four card slots, a cash and boarding pass slip, as well as a passport compartment. The minimalist design is slender enough to fit into our back pocket. And we love that the Away Passport Wallet comes in four unique colorways—one for every member of the family.

Best for: Sticking to the essentials.

Beis The Passport Luggage Tag Set

best passport holders beis the passport luggage tag set - Luxe Digital

The Beis The Passport Luggage Tag Set is a game-changer for seamless travel coordination. This unique combo of a passport holder and a luggage tag set is designed to solve all travel complications. The set even comes in a transparent zip bag, perfect for sailing liquids through security.

The travel document holder is thoughtfully sized with essential slots, doubling up as a travel wallet. And we love that everything matches.

This Beis set makes us feel totally put together, even when catching an early flight.

Best for: Providing everything you need and more.

Dagne Dover Travel Accordion

best passport holders dagne dover travel accordion - Luxe Digital

The Dagne Dover Travel Accordion is stylish enough to resemble a beautiful leather purse, but it comes with the addition of a quintessential passport slot. That being said, it is slightly bulkier than some of the other passport holders, but because we use it as our everyday travel wallet, we kind of like that it fits seven cards.

Made from sustainably sourced pebbled leather and recycled reprieve lining, the Dagne Dover Travel Accordion is the perfect gift for eco-chic travelers. We also appreciate that the magnetic closure makes travel documents readily available, so as not to delay the boarding queue.

Learn more about Dagne Dover in our dedicated brand story.

Best for: Leaving nothing behind.

Senreve Passport Holder

best passport holders senreve passport holder - Luxe Digital

As expected, this designer passport holder by Senerve is a little more expensive than the others on our list. But if you’re looking to really treat yourself, you don’t get a more decadent travel accessory.

Made in Italy from premium leather, the timeless passport holder is scratch; stain; and water-resistant. The micro-suede interior is incredibly soft, featuring four main compartments for cards, cash, boarding passes—and, of course, our passport.

The Senreve passport holder is the kind of accessory you keep for a lifetime, so in our opinion, it’s totally worth it.

Best for: Your passport to a lifetime of adventure.

Buyer’s guide: Choosing the right passport holder

Selecting the perfect passport holder for your travels can be an essential part of your trip planning. With a variety of styles, types, and features available, this guide aims to help you navigate your choices.

Organization: Passport holders are designed to keep your travel documents, such as passports, boarding passes, and visas, in one convenient location. This organization is invaluable in reducing stress during travel, as it ensures all your essential documents are easily accessible.

Protection from wear and tear: Regular travel can quickly wear down important documents. A passport holder offers a protective layer, safeguarding these documents from damage due to spills, tears, or creases.

Style: Beyond functionality, passport holders come in a variety of styles, colors, and materials. Choosing a holder that matches your personal style can add a fun touch to your travel ensemble.

Extra step: Adding a passport holder to your travel routine means one more item to remember. For minimalist travelers, this extra piece might feel like an unnecessary complication.

Extra bulk: Passport holders, depending on their design, can add extra bulk to your carry-on. If you prefer to travel light, consider the size and weight of the holder.

Passport wallet: A passport wallet is a comprehensive option, often equipped with multiple compartments for storing cards, cash, and other small items alongside your passport. Ideal for those who want everything in one place.

Passport sleeve: Sleeves are slim and lightweight, designed to encase just the passport. This type is perfect for travelers who prefer minimalism and want to protect their passport without added bulk.

Passport pouch: A pouch is a larger option that can be worn around the neck or on the belt, providing easy access to your documents. It’s a good choice for those who want to keep their documents secure but readily accessible.

Organization: Look for a passport holder with adequate compartments and slots tailored to your specific needs. Some come with dedicated spaces for boarding passes, currency, and other travel essentials.

Security: With the rise in electronic theft, a passport holder with RFID-blocking technology is a wise choice. This feature prevents unauthorized scanning of your digital information.

Material: The durability and appearance of your passport holder depend significantly on the material. Leather offers a classic, durable choice, while synthetic materials can provide water resistance and a more casual look.

Size and portability: Consider how the holder fits into your overall travel gear. A compact, lightweight holder is easier to carry, especially for those who pack light.

Closure mechanism: The type of closure (zipper, snap, magnetic) can affect both the security and ease of access to your documents.

Frequently asked questions about passport holders

Passport wallets are highly useful for travelers. They offer a secure and organized way to carry essential travel documents, like passports, boarding passes, and currencies. Their compact design and protective features safeguard these items from damage and theft.

The best travel document holder balances functionality and style. It should be durable, with multiple compartments for passports, tickets, and cards. RFID-blocking technology is a plus for security against electronic theft.

The strongest passport in terms of global mobility is often a contest between Japan and Singapore, granting visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to about 192 countries. Passport strength is dynamic and can change based on geopolitical developments and international agreements.

You would typically store your passport, boarding passes, and important travel documents in a passport wallet. It’s also common to include other essentials like currency, credit cards, and identification cards. Some might add travel insurance details, emergency contacts, and hotel reservation confirmations.

National Park Passport Stamps: The Ultimate Guide

' src=

Are you ready to turn your national park visits into memories? Then check out National Park Passport Stamps. Also called National Park Cancellation Stamps, this program is your way to collect unique souvenirs and chronicle your outdoor adventures (for free)!

What are National Park Passport Stamps? A Treasure Hunt for Park Explorers

There are currently 429 National Park sites in the United States and there is at least one unique stamp for each of them that you can use to commemorate your visit. The ‘stamps’ are rubber ink stamps that have the name of the park, date and location. They resemble a visitation stamp used on international passports, which is why the program is called the Passport to Your National Parks .

Stamp in book for George Washington Birthplace National Monument

Beyond the main stamp program, there are also special stamps that commemorative National Historical Trails, special anniversary stamps, along with stamps at National Forests, Bureau of Land Management, lighthouses, Junior Ranger, and other ‘bonus’ stamps that can be obtained. In all, there are over 8,000 different stamps to collect!

The History and Purpose of National Park Passport Stamps

Eastern National is a Non-profit organization founded in 1947 to help our National Park System and other public lands with educational products. The National Park Passport Stamp program was developed in 1986, to help their mission to promote visitation to our National Parks. Officially called the “Passport to Your National Parks” program, net proceeds help fund educational and interpretive programs at National Park Service sites.

Why are National Park Passport Stamps called Cancellation Stamps?

The stamps resemble a cancellation stamp used on international passports, which is why the program is called the Passport to Your National Parks.  That said, they don’t effectively cancel anything and are just a way to commemorate your visit to the park. International passport cancellation stamps usually render a passport invalid for future travel.

It seems the use of the term ‘cancellation stamp’ was used as an analogy to international passport usage, but the exact origin is not entirely clear.  I tend to not use the ‘Cancellation’ term as it is a little confusing and frankly inaccurate.

Why Collect National Park Passport Stamps?

  • It is a fun way to document your National Park adventures and track your progress.
  • The act of collecting the stamps creates a personalized record of your travels and experiences.
  • Provides a deeper connection to our national park system and a its mission.
  • Collecting is fun!

Types of National Park Passports

Choosing the right passport:  classic, collector, explorer or junior ranger.

These passport stamps are pretty neat, and now I want to start collecting them.  So, now what? Eastern National sells three ‘passport books’ that you can use as your own adventure journal, illustrating your journey and travels.

Blue Passport to your national Park book on wood table

Classic: The small blue version is by far the most popular. Pocket sized, perfect for dropping in a backpack or a pocket in your cargo pants, and full of information. Additional page inserts can be purchased as well, so you can cram a ton of stamps in this little book!

Collector: A larger spiral book that includes all the information in the blue classic book and more. It has a dedicated section for each park along with a place to up a special regional stamp sicker.

Black cover Collector Edition Stamp book

Explorer : Is designed around a seven-ring binder and its own zip up case. The value with this book is in its flexibility, as you can buy inserts, or make your own pages to express your journey in your own way.

Junior Ranger: The Junior Ranger Passport Book is an interactive adventure guide for kids aged 5-12, packed with fun facts, activities, and colorful illustrations. There is a special Junior Ranger stamps at specific National Park Sites that can be used in this book.

Official National Park Passports vs. Third Party Alternatives; Understanding the difference

One thing to keep in mind is that there are key differences between the four official passports sold at Park visitor centers across the country and third-party books. You may find a 3rd party alternative on Amazon or another site that is unique and fits the style of your collecting, which is great.

However, keep in mind that while there are a wide variety of options, the proceeds of these books do not contribute to park conservation or education programs. With the official passports you get high quality , consistency and the satisfaction with knowing you are supporting America’s National Park Service.

Explore Alternative Park Documentation Tools: Journals, Scratch off Maps/Posters, and More

Outside of the official passport books and third-party knockoffs, there are also several other options for personalizing your stamping collection and travelogue.

  • You can use a normal moleskin journal to not only record the stamp but also jot down your reflections, capturing the sights, sounds and emotions of your journey. Maybe even sketch a cool image.
  • Personalized stickers : If you have a color inkjet printer, use sticker sheets and print pictures of you in the national park or site.  You can then put the sticker in your journal or even in your national park passport.
  • There are several scratch-off interactive maps or posters that reveal visited parks, transforming them into visual trophies of your outdoor conquests. I have one poster and also a cool coffee mug.  Every time I am sipping my cup of joe, it reminds me of our travels.

Using Your National Park Passport

Getting started: where to buy your national park passport book.

National Park Passport books can usually be found at National Park sites. The larger National Parks locations have larger gift shops and of course more options and accessories for you to purchase. If you are eager to start or need to prepare for a trip you can go to America’s National Parks on-line store and purchase all your supplies, there. This eStore is run by East National and is a non-profit organization where proceeds go to help information programs at National Park Sites

Where do you find the National Park Passport Stamps?

You can find a list of all the stamps that have been release by Eastern National by going to their web site.  It is a daunting list of 429 sites! Eastern National Stamp List .

National Park System Detailed Map 2023

I would also suggest visiting and joining the National Parks Travelers Club . For only a few dollars a year you get access to the clubs Master Database, that is dutifully curated by the thousands of members to ensure accuracy. It is well worth the investment.

Additionally, the club provides access to tons of useful information, a yearly convention of like-minded ‘stampers’, and local meetups as well. Their active forum is also a way to get clarity from the wealth of knowledge and experience of the members.

Discover the Regions: How National Park Passport Stamps are Organized

Navigating your National Park Passport may seem daunting, but the stamp organization is fairly simple. Your passport is divided into nine regions, each with their own color. Find your desired park’s section, then locate the designated space for its unique stamp.

map of USA with geographical regions for passport stamps

Remember, some parks offer multiple stamps at different locations, so be sure to explore thoroughly and document your full park experience.

Recording Your Journey: Personalize Your Passport with Stickers

Passport to your national parks 2019 stamp series stickers

Since 1986, Eastern National has released a regional stamp set, which are a collection of colorful stickers with beautiful photographs that highlights one park for each of the nine regions, plus a larger National Stamp. These stickers have a special location in each of the three passport books that enhances the book with a collection of great photos and added information about the different parks.

While certainly not necessary, it is a way to breathe some context and life into an otherwise stale set of pages. I use them in my Collector’s edition book, adding one for each park I visit.

Deep Dive into the National Park Stamps

Different stamps:  national park sites, lighthouse stamps, special bonus stamps, etc..

The primary stamp offering is the National Park stamps, that can be found at each of the 428 parks sites in the United States, but there are other surprises on this journey.

Bonus stamps can be found at some locations, some of which are quite unique. I enjoy finding these gems along my journey and look forward to seeing the collection growing. My favorite so far is the cute alligator from the Shark Valley Visitor center in the Everglades National Park.

Explore, Collect, Preserve: Lighthouse Passport Stamp Program

For avid collectors of National Park Passport stamps, you might have noticed intriguing lighthouses adorning some park sites. Did you know there’s an entire Lighthouse Passport Program supported by the United States Lighthouse Society?

old point Comfort lighthouse Fort Monroe National Monument

This program offers a dedicated passport book where you can document your collection.  With space for 60 stamps, it is a great way to memorialize your collection.  Importantly, they ask for a small $2 donation when you collect your stamp, directly supports lighthouse restoration and preservation projects.

Check out my article that explores the stamps, benefits, and how you can contribute to preserving these maritime structures.

What to do if you are missing National Park passport stamps?

At the start of our stamping journey, we had already visited at least 14 different NPS properties in the past. Was there really a way I could travel back in time and get these stamps? The answer is of course, Yes!

By sending personalized letters to the missing National Park Service sites with a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE), we have been able to reach out and request these missing stamps. Imagine our delight when, after just two weeks, we received replies from five amazing locations!

Letter from NPS with passport stamps

What was truly special was the response from FDR National Historic Site and Vanderbilt Mansion . Not only were they the quickest to respond, but they surprised us with a nice handwritten letter! They even apologized for some slightly “imperfect” stamps, which only makes them more charming. A simple letter, combined with pictures and genuine appreciation, can open doors and provide an even stronger connection to our National Parks.

Ready to embark on your own letter-writing adventure? Here are some tips:

  • Personalize your letters to each park, mentioning specific things you enjoyed.
  • Include a few photos from your visit.
  • Include some passport stampable stickers, or an expander page.
  • Be polite and complimentary.
  • Don’t forget the SASE!

Essential Extras: 4 Travel Accessories to Complement Your Passport Stamp Collecting Adventures

To be fully prepared on your stamping adventure, I would suggest adding several items to your travel bag. These of course will depend on your collecting goals, where you are heading and how you travel.

Additional Page inserts :  Depending on which book you buy (see the list here), you can buy inserts that you can easily add to the book.  This is great if you want to just bring a page and not your entire book on a trip as well.

Expander pack for passport to your national parks classic and collector's edition

Passport Stampable Stickers :  Another option is the stampable stickers. There are three round stickers that fit the stamps and can be easily carried. I usually have one with me just in case!

Baby wipes :  Sometimes the stamps can get gunked up and do not generate a clear stamp. Baby wipes are really good at cleaning the stamp so you can reapply the ink to get a crisp stamp.

Stamp pad and ink :  While it is not common, it can happen. You finish an awesome national park experience, and you find the stamp pad is dry as a bone.  Having your own stamp pad can avoid relying on a park ranger or shop employee. If you are really gung-ho, you can get a different color for each region.

Beyond Stamps

Responsible park exploration: leave no trace principles.

Whenever you visit a national park or other public land, a great thing to keep in mind is the Principle of Leave No Trace. My son’s Boy Scout Troop really helped reinforce this, not only to me but to our entire family. In following the principles, it can ensure that our parks remain as pristine as possible for everyone. Below are the key seven principles but you can learn more about Leave No Trace in this article.

  • Plan Ahead and Prepare
  • Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces
  • Dispose of Waste Properly
  • Leave What You Find
  • Minimize Campfire Impacts
  • Respect Wildlife
  • Be Considerate of Other Visitors

Resources to Expand your Park Experience:  Great Resources, Community groups and more

What are some of the best resources to tap into for an incredible park and Stamping experience?

The obvious choice is The National Park Service site. It full of great information and one of the best resources to help you plan National Park visits and find passport stamps. A must before making any visit, as operating times and access to certain locations can change seasonally. Another key point, they consistently post up-to-date impacts to National Park sites impacted by local issues. Something as simple as an early closure due to a broken air conditioning unit on a hot summer day, or a road closure can be found.

Another good choice is the America’s National Par ks site. This non-profit runs the gift shops and stores at over 150 NPS locations. The proceeds support educational, interpretive, and preservation efforts at nearly 170 national parks. They are the ones who provide the National Park Cancellations stamps, and they keep a monthly list of all stamp locations .

The National Park Travelers Club is an amazing resource for any National Park Visitor. The club provides networking and resources to its members who are a dedicated group of National Park enthusiasts. For only a few dollars a year you get access to the club’s Master Database of the National Park cancellation stamps.

This is a great resource, which is dutifully curated by the thousands of members to ensure accuracy.  Moreover, the club provides access to their forum which is a great way to get a wealth of knowledge from their experienced members.

Coolest Passport Stamps to Collect on Your Travels

passport stamp travel bag

Passport stamps are still the most coveted item for a traveler. Getting one’s passport “tattooed” gives a sense of accomplishment and achievement, as well as a way to look back on trips and memories long gone.

While some countries no longer stamp passports and are turning to a virtual system, there are still far-out places and territories offering unique passport stamps only available to the most adventurous globetrotters. Here is a list of our favorites.

Tristan De Cunha

Tristan da Cunha is a group of volcanic islands in the South Atlantic, the most remote archipelago in the world, still inhabited.

A British Overseas Territory 1,732 miles off the coast of Cape Town, being so remote it’s no wonder this is one of the most difficult and coveted passport stamps in the world.

Falkland Islands

2,487 miles off the coast of Tristan de Cunha are the Falkland Islands, another very remote group of islands in the South Atlantic 300 miles off the coast of Patagonia in Argentina, and only 752 miles from the northern tip of Antarctica.

Famous for its five different species of penguins, it’s one of the coolest-looking and rarest passport stamps one can possess.

Arctic Circle, Finland

While Finland is obviously not the only place in the world where you can access the Arctic Circle, it seems like one of the few if not only countries that give out a passport stamp on arrival.

Timbuktu, Mali

While it may be famous for the “Here to Timbuktu” saying, meaning in the middle of nowhere, turns out it still exists in the middle of the Sahara Desert.

This may be the most interesting stamp you could receive in your passport, think of all the stories you’d have just to get this passport stamp.

Peru Stamps

Peru has some of the coolest stamps in our opinion. From the spectacular and remote Rainbow Mountain to Machu Picchu and of course the Nazca Lines further south, there is no shortage of awesome and unique passport stamps in Peru.

You may wonder why this is on the list since it’s now impossible to obtain. Hong Kong removed its passport stamp in favor of a simple paper card.

In either case, some people still have these in their passports from years past, and if we may say so ourselves, it’s one of the nicest, classic-looking passport stamps.

How to make the most of Passport DC’s free embassy tours

Over the next two weekends, dozens of embassies will open their doors to the public for free. Here’s how to travel the world without leaving D.C.

passport stamp travel bag

Dozens of countries from Armenia to Zambia are hosting open houses Saturday during the annual Around the World Embassy Tour , one of those “only in Washington” events you’ll tell friends and relatives about. How often do you get invited into an embassy to explore its art collection, sample traditional cuisine, and watch free music and dance performances, let alone play cornhole in the Norwegian Embassy’s garden? Here’s a guide to planning for a successful day of globe-trotting without leaving D.C. Also, many of these tips are just as helpful on May 11, when the European Union hosts its annual E.U. Open House embassy tours.

  • Because the event is popular, lines are common, and they get longer at some of the better-known locations, such as the Korean Cultural Center at the South Korean Embassy, or the embassies of the United Kingdom, Jamaica and Thailand. If there’s a particular embassy you must visit, get there before doors open at 10 a.m. to improve your chances of getting in.
  • If you’re trying to visit a variety of embassies, pick a particular neighborhood to explore — maybe Massachusetts Avenue near Scott Circle, the string of embassies on Massachusetts northwest of Sheridan Circle, or the embassies dotted among the streets of Kalorama — and research the participants within a few blocks. That way, if you get tired of waiting outside one embassy, you can head to another, preferably smaller, destination nearby. Also, as veteran Around the World-ers will tell you, the embassies clustered around International Drive and International Court in Van Ness — China, Bangladesh, Egypt, etc. — are closer together and can be easier to get into than the ones on Embassy Row.
  • You don’t even have to go indoors to get a taste of a country: Some embassies offer outdoor live music, dance performances or, in the case of China, lion dances to entertain the crowds waiting to enter their buildings.
  • If you go to a busy neighborhood, try starting at the embassies that are farthest from the Metro station — people have a tendency to stop and get in line at the first embassy they pass. Walk past them, then work your way back.
  • For serious explorers, this is a good weekend to skip brunch. Participating embassies and cultural centers are open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and lines get longer as the day goes on. An early start will help you make it to the most locations — getting to five or six is a solid day of sightseeing.
  • Even if you plan well, you might be able to avoid lines at only a handful of embassies. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a phone charger and a book, just in case.
  • Carry cash or a credit card. While many embassies offer free samples of food or drinks, some also charge. Last year, the Embassy of Barbados handed out free sweets and had a chef preparing traditional Barbadian dishes as a teaser for the upcoming Barbados Food and Rum Festival. Everyone sitting on a chair in the embassy’s front garden watching the cooking demo got a two-bite hors d’oeuvre. But in the parking lot behind the embassy, there was a party raging: The ambassador was hanging out next to a DJ spinning upbeat carnival songs; a bar served potent rum punches ($6 each) and beer ($4); and a team of cooks was dishing up flying fish with rice and beans, oxtail platters, barbecued pig tails, and macaroni pie (main dishes $15-$35 with sides, smaller plates $1-$10). While the Barbados Association of Washington did have a credit card reader, that’s not true of every embassy we’ve been to.
  • Some embassies have marketplaces with art or textiles from native artisans. The Embassy of Kenya transformed the forecourt of its building into a showcase of baskets, clothing and jewelry; Ukraine House, the Ukrainian cultural center, had traditional Ukrainian fashions, nesting dolls and accessories for sale on tables in its garden.
  • Related: Even if you don’t plan on buying anything, grab the first free tote bag you see, because you’ll pick up plenty of tchotchkes, pamphlets and other gifts throughout the day.
  • Don’t be shy about asking what you’re in line for. The Dominican Republic hosted a veritable street party last year, with a DJ on its front porch and people dancing in the road. Depending on which way you approached the building, though, there were two very different lines: One was to access the indoor embassy tour, and the other was to purchase food and a rum tasting. You don’t want to get to the front of the line to find out you’ve spent 20 minutes waiting for the wrong thing.
  • Bigger isn’t always better. Some of the more popular embassies can be so crowded that you don’t really feel like you’re learning anything about the country. At an off-the-beaten-path embassy, such as the Embassy of Gabon, you have a better chance of getting face time with a staffer who can talk about the cultural uses of elaborate masks on display, or explain how national parks cover more than 10 percent of the country. (That’s about three times the percentage in the United States.)

The Around the World Embassy Tour is part of the month-long Passport DC program, and souvenir passports are available from booths near the Dupont Circle and Van Ness Metro stations; at the Mexican Cultural Institute ; and at the International City Food Festival , held at the Square food hall. Visitors can collect stamps while visiting embassies and cultural centers, though there’s no reward for filling the book.
