Active and rewarding trip.
The fjord trek/hiking was one of the best travel experiences I’ve ever had! The hikes were epic, a bit challenging but that made them even more rewarding. Our CEO Vadim, was a total pro and expert in explaining all the daily events and made sure we were all taken care of. A real bond formed with our group which made the experience even more memorable. Thanks again! Leo

Tour more than met our expectations. Our tour guide, Stefano, was good and very helpful when I sustained an injury.
Very well organized, great communication through the site, Stefano was very helpful and informative. Accommodations were excellent - better then expected. The two dinners included in Flam were fabulous. European breakfasts are always amazing but the Flam one was out of control wonderful. This tour is pretty independent meaning you do not hang out with the group much. It includes transportation, hotel accommodations, breakfasts and guidance. You purchase the smaller tours separately.

Nikolai was FANTASTIC!!!! He was a great tour leader. The tour took us to many places and he educated us well. However, just a few negative comments. The hotels were not satisfactory ....I am used to better hotels when I travel. Carrying my luggage throughout the tour was very burdensome. I am an older person, and although I am in great shape, I did not want to be responsible for carrying my luggage everywhere. There was an 89 year old man on our trip. He had a real hard time catching up. I usually go on escorted tours where my luggage, and everything else, is handled by the guides, not by me. I loved the places that wer went to and overall I would suggest people take Tourradar and Intrepid if they don't mind doing some of the labor involved.
This was a bit challenging for me The guide Shane was wonderful

Well organized and efficient. Adapted to changing circumstances that were out of their control. Had to manage a wide variety of customers and did a good job of it.
It was a very well organized and rich tour and the guide Carine is amazing! I hope to have other tours with her. Thank you globus. This is my first tour with you and it was a great experience.

This is a three day tour at best. NOT a 5 day tour. The overall activities were pretty sparse and lack lustre. Suitable for people over 70. The tour leader seemed tired and couldn't be bothered. The accomodation in Tromso was not 4*. There was too much free time with not enough direction on how to spend it- I was not sure what I had paid for. The reindeer safari- seriously, feeding some reindeer, a 5 minute slowest ever ride in a sleigh, and an interesting 15 minute talk on the Sami, does not a safari make! and that took 3 hours, so a lot of hanging around, again with no direction, With other tours I have been with the guide would sit and talk with us, recommend places for dinner/lunch, suggest we all go together etc. There was absolutely none of that here. The walk around Sommarsoy, was an amble for an hour. Then no direction on how to spend the rest of the time. The campfire, was an evening in a hut, popping out to stand by a small fire occasionally. No directed talk/information etc. It was a Northern lights tour and we weren't even given a talk about the Northern Lights! An expensive waste of money on my account. Would never use this tour company again.
Mario was a wonderful group leader and very professional. He helped with all aspects of the trip and recommended options tours. We loved the sauna. Jumping into the fjord was freezing but so much fun. Would recommend this trip.

I'm a solo woman traveler, who booked this trip Beautiful Views End Copenhagen (Germany, Denmark, Norway and Sweden) with only 1 month in advance and since I booked it through an USA online agency they put me in the English language group.  -OVERALL: I love the trip, beautiful places, great food, great experience and meet a lot of people.  -Tour guides: When the circuit tour started in Frankfurt, Germany I met the English speaking tour guide (Antia), who was assigned to be my tour guide for this entire trip. My first impression when meeting her is: she was very serious and unfriendly. When we left the hotel I realized that the traveler's group in the same bus was mixed between Spanish and Portuguese speaking people (that were the majority of the group and they had assigned as their tour guide Pedro Repilado) and English speaking people (only like 5-7 people, including me who had assigned as tour guide Antia), which is not a problem for me since I'm used to travel with Europamundo and I know how they arranged groups and more that the month of March is a low season.  Since I'm bilingual (English and Spanish), I heard the explanations given by both tour guides, Antia (English) and Pedro (Spanish and Portuguese), and at the beginning of the trip (since both guides were going to do the full route/circuit) I decided to compare both explanations and, although I was assigned to Antia in the English group, I decided to switch and joined the Spanish language guide. Why? My first impression about Antia (English) was right. Although she knew well how to speak and pronounce English words, she was very unfriendly. I think that when travelers book this kind of trip that if full organize (Hotels, tours, breakfast included, transportation, itinerary, etc.) by a company, in this case Europamundo, the tour guide assign to the group is supposed to give a good customer experience to those travelers, because after all that is for what they are paying for. Antia was not friendly, on a few occasions I told her good morning, she didn't even reply, if I approached her, asked or tried to make a conversation she was with a very serious and non-approachable face. When it was her turn to provide the English explanation she was cleared with the words but was very short in the explanations and it seems as if she was just trying to translate what the Spanish guide (Pedro) said previously to her. Pedro was very organized, provided his number in case anyone needed it or had any issues, and he always had his group communicate with departure times and more, no Antia, she was like... if this person needs my assistance they will find me. But her personality was not approachable. Nevertheless, to end speaking about Antia, my review about her is that although she speaks English well she is not made to be a tour guide. If she changes her attitude, gets more involved with the travelers, provides more assistance/guide and more information during her explanations, then maybe but for my opinion she doesn't provide a good customer experience and should not be a tour guide. At the end of the trip, she didn't even say bye to any of the English speaking travelers assigned to her.  Leaving Antia (English guide) aside, now I can speak about Pedro Repilado (Spanish guide). He was the best. I have traveled many times with Europamundo and he has been the best one yet. Although I was assigned to Antia, he accepted me and treated me as I was under his group. He always treated me with respect, great orientations about the places, had many knowledged about places we visited, great conversations, he also provided me with his contact information which made me felt safe (as I said many times as a solo woman traveler and very far from by country many women feel unsafe, but he made be feel safe and informed about departures and was always looking out for his group and the ones not in his group. He added more fun and enjoyment to my travel experience. He is well informed, friendly, veryyyyyyyyyyyy organized (which is a big plus). I hope I got the chance to be able to travel again and have Pedro as my tour guide.  -Bus drivers: I had two, Carlos, great driver, and then for a longer period of time we had Javier (greatttt driver, very organized, friendly, fun).   -Places visited: overall the selection of places, cities and towns, was great. Many colorful and great places to visit.  -Hotels: Selection was ok, some closed to the city other veryyyy far. I know that Europamundo has big buses and in Europe is not easy to find hotels with the capacity for big groups, that include breakfast, that has spaces to park the bus but... my only suggestions is to find hotels closer to the city to be able to enjoy the nightlife and/or to have a good meal.  -Breakfast: All mornings, breakfast were included, so that's a plus and great for this kind of long trips (waking around 5:30 am and arriving at hotels around 9 pm, but I'm used to this when traveling with Europamundo, which is necessary to be able to see many things in a short amount of time). Overall, breakfasts included in the hotel were good.  -Europamundo: had great communication with Europamundo.  -transportation from FRankfurt airport-hotel: the company that Europamundo selected to transport me from FRankfurt airport-hotel was kind of poor. They were supposed to be at the airport from 9:30 am until 10:30 am, they arrived late at the airport at 10:50 am, the man was walking very fast to the car and without waiting for me to get to the car I was almost running with my luggage behind him.

Bucket list adventure! We did the Independent Northern Lights tour. Best trip ever. Everything went off like clockwork. I wouldn’t hesitate to book another trip with 50 degrees North with Tour Radar.
The trip was excellent. Food accommodation activities guide all excellent. We could not believe that regularly we surpassed the previous day in terms of wow factor. An amazing trip - saw the northern lights on four separate nights of the trip. Unforgettable!!

  • Excellent - 137 reviews for Norway tours
Our guide was pleasant, helpful, easy to get along with and worked hard to pass on information about Norway and its sights. The fjords and glaciers were amazing! However, the schedule given by the tour company left something to be desired. What bothered the majority of us the most was that we didn’t even need to be on the bus until 9:45 a.m. the morning we left Leikanger for Bergen! Our guide couldn’t change it because the company had us booked for the stave church which is about all we did that day except for photo stops and one waterfall. It would have been so much nicer to get to Bergen earlier which would’ve allowed time to explore before dinner. We agreed with others in our group that the cafe, rest room, and some of the photo stops were too long. Chopping time here and there could’ve gotten us to our lodging earlier, given us the opportunity to eat earlier or explore, whatever. Some of the lodging more than satisfactory but two lodgings were not to our liking. The first was scheduled to be in Sogndal. The rooms were so small that we sat in the hotel’s lounge until time to sleep; fortunately the lounge was comfortable. The lodging on the last night before going to Bergen was in lodging that should also be removed from the list. It had small, dated rooms where, just like the Sogndal hotel, it was difficult to move around in with 2 pieces of luggage also taking up space! Making things worse was the breakfast. ALL of the other lodgings had a wonderful breakfast but this hotel in Leikanger provided, at best, a sparse breakfast which lacked the foods I had enjoyed at the other hotels. Perhaps travelers should have the option to upgrade rooms. We did so at the first two hotels once we arrived and enjoyed the benefits. Nights two and three were spent at a hotel that did not include dinner. That bothered all of us because the only other option was to find a grocery and somehow put a meal together. We elected to eat in the dining room and enjoyed it but most didn’t want to spend the money. It was the nicest hotel of the bunch and really got our time near the fjords off to a good start. If the tour company could’ve spent another 78 Norweigian krona per person on providing dinner those two nights, all would’ve been happy. They could’ve added that amount to the trip cost in our respective currencies and it would not have been enough to stop us from going. In fact, the more meals offered, the more enticing a trip is! There was another tour group having dinner together at that same hotel but, sadly, not us. In summary, the tour company needs to review some of their lodging, schedules, and even included dinners. It was really hard to be someplace for two nights with no dinner options except the hotel because so many places are closed on Monday and Tuesday. We loved the sights, enjoyed our guide and fellow travelers but the pace was slow. We were glad we could get her to move the schedule up 1/2 hour one day.

Destination Norway

Appreciated for its wild beauty and the diversity of its landscapes, Norway is an eldorado for lovers of the North! Walks in the midnight sun, excursions in the fjords, hiking in the high steep and rocky mountains, downhill skiing on glaciers, dog sledding, northern lights, relaxation in a hotel spa by the fjord … Whether you have the soul of an adventurer or are looking for a moment of relaxation, Norway is a must-see of Northern Europe. And after all … it’s not for nothing that we decided to set up our offices in this vibrant Scandinavian capital.

Destination Denmark

Denmark is certainly the smallest Scandinavian country but it is nonetheless a must-discover destination. Suitable for families with amusement parks like the Tivoli (roller coasters, shows …) or Legoland (as its name suggests, an all brick Lego universe), Denmark has also focused for the past ten years on gastronomy and develops the concept of “Nouvelle Cuisine Nordique”. Why not enjoy your visit to the Danish capital to greet the bronze statue of the little mermaid, a symbol of Denmark if any. Copenhagen offers a charming mix of modernity and history. The thousands of kilometers of coastline and the beautiful beaches are an invitation for water sports enthusiasts like kitesurfing, windsurfing, kayaking and more.

Destination Iceland

Its nickname “country of fire and ice” reflects the wildness of Iceland. Few countries can boast so many contrasts: fjords, glaciers, waterfalls, volcanoes, geysers, hot springs … So many enchanting landscapes to discover under the northern lights or the midnight sun! The wildlife is also spectacular and unique, offering among other things the opportunity to observe whales, seals, many species of birds, etc.

Full advice

There's an ongoing threat of terrorism in Europe.

Terrorists have attacked some European cities in recent years. Targets have included:

  • public transport
  • other transport hubs
  • cultural venues and markets
  • public places frequented by locals and foreigners

Norwegian authorities have set the country's terror threat at Level to 3 - Moderate.

In June 2022, a gunman shot at people in 3 venues in Oslo. 3 people were killed, and several others were injured.

In August 2019, a gunman attempted an attack on the Al-Noor Islamic Centre in Baerum, outside Oslo. One person was injured.

To reduce your risk of terrorism:

  • be alert to possible threats, especially in public places
  • report suspect actions or items to police
  • monitor the media for threats
  • take official warnings seriously
  • follow advice from local authorities

If there's an attack, leave the area as soon as it's safe. Avoid the affected area in case of secondary attacks.

Terrorism is a threat worldwide.

More information:

  • Norwegian Police Security Service Threat Assessment (Norwegian)

Violent crime

Serious crime is rare.

There have been some  sexual assaults  against foreigners.

Violent crime with weapons has occurred in areas where criminal gangs operate, such as parts of eastern Oslo.

Petty crime

Petty crime, such as pickpocketing, cons and bag-snatching is increasingly common. The risk rises during the peak tourist season from May to September, particularly in Oslo.

Thieves often work together and use various tricks to distract travellers.

To protect yourself from crime:

  • watch your belongings on buses and taxis, especially at night
  • don't go out alone after dark or to isolated places, especially on foot
  • always keep your vehicle and accommodation locked
  • be alert to suspicious behaviour

More information:

  • Sexual assault

Cyber security

You may be at risk of cyber-based threats during overseas travel to any country. Digital identity theft is a growing concern. Your devices and personal data can be compromised, especially if you’re connecting to Wi-Fi, using or connecting to shared or public computers, or to Bluetooth.

Social media can also be risky in destinations where there are social or political tensions, or laws that may seem unreasonable by Australian standards. Travellers have been arrested for things they have said on social media. Don't comment on local or political events on your social media.

  • Cyber security when travelling overseas

Civil unrest and political tension

Civil unrest is rare.

Check the media and avoid possible unrest.

If there's a protest near you, follow the advice of local authorities.

Public protests and events that draw large groups of people can turn violent.

Demonstrations and civil unrest

Tours and Adventure travel

There are many adventure activities in Norway. These include mountaineering, trekking, skiing and glacier climbing.

Check you have everything you need for these activities, including the right equipment.

Ensure you're fit enough to do these activities.

To stay safe:

  • follow local advice
  • stay on marked runs and paths
  • only ski in recommended areas
  • check weather forecasts
  • always let people know where you're going

The weather can be unpredictable, even during the summer months.

Check your travel insurance covers these activities. Include coverage for helicopter rescue and medical evacuation.

If you're travelling to Svalbard, follow local safety advice.

Polar bears have killed and injured travellers in Svalbard. Avalanches and accidents on glaciers and boats have also killed travellers.

  • Governor of Svalbard

Tour operators

Tour operators don't always follow safety and maintenance standards.

If you plan to do a tour or adventure activity:

  • check if your travel insurance policy covers it
  • ask about and insist on minimum safety requirements
  • always use available safety gear, such as life jackets or seatbelts

If proper safety equipment isn't available, use another provider.

Climate and natural disasters

Norway experiences natural disasters and severe weather , such as:

  • avalanches and rockslides in some mountain areas

Check advice on weather and safety conditions before skiing or mountaineering.

If there's a natural disaster:

  • Download the Varsom app which provides advice on risks across Norway
  • follow the advice of local authorities
  • get updates from the Norwegian Government

Register with the Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System to receive alerts on major disasters.

Arctic travel

The northernmost parts of Norway are above the Arctic Circle. Take care in these areas. Follow the advice from local authorities. Be ready to change your plans if you need to.

The Arctic is a vast region.

If you're planning to visit:

  • work out how far you'll be from search and rescue, evacuation and medical facilities
  • make contingency plans

If you're travelling by ship:

  • check the onboard medical care
  • ask cruise operators about medical arrangements
  • discuss any pre-existing medical conditions

Search and rescue services may take a long time to arrive. They could be many hundreds of kilometres away. Stranded vessels may wait several days for help, particularly in bad weather.

We may not be able to give you full or prompt consular assistance in remote areas.

To reduce your risks, have travel insurance or funds to cover:

  • the cost of search and rescue
  • any medical treatment
  • your return home or to another city or country

More information

Going on a cruise

Travel insurance

Get comprehensive travel insurance before you leave.

Your policy needs to cover all overseas medical costs, including medical evacuation. The Australian Government won't pay for these costs.

If you can't afford travel insurance, you can't afford to travel. This applies to everyone, no matter how healthy and fit you are.

If you're not insured, you may have to pay many thousands of dollars up-front for medical care.

  • that your insurance covers you for the whole time, you'll be away (including if stopovers on the way to your destination are covered)
  • if your travel insurance covers cancellation for COVID-19, which covers you if you or a travelling companion contracts COVID-19

Physical and mental health

Consider your physical and mental health before you travel, especially if you have an existing medical condition.

See your doctor or travel clinic to:

  • have a basic health check-up
  • ask if your travel plans may affect your health
  • plan any vaccinations you need

Do this at least 8 weeks before you leave.

If you have immediate concerns for your welfare or the welfare of another Australian, call the 24-hour Consular Emergency Centre on +61 2 6261 3305 or contact your  nearest Australian Embassy, High Commission or Consulate  to discuss counselling hotlines and services available in your location.

  • General health advice
  • Healthy holiday tips  (Healthdirect Australia)

Medications

Not all medication available over the counter or by prescription in Australia is available in other countries. Some may even be considered illegal or a controlled substance, even if prescribed by an Australian doctor.

If you plan to bring medication,  check if it's legal in Norway . Take enough legal medicine for your trip.

For advice on restrictions on imports, visit the  Norwegian Customs website .

Carry a copy of your prescription or a letter from your doctor stating:

  • what the medication is
  • your required dosage
  • that it's for personal use

Health risks

The  Norwegian Institute of Public Health (Folkehelseinstituttet)  website has a dedicated English language page providing medical updates and guidance.

  • National online health services in Norway
  • COVID-19  (Department of Health and Aged Care)

Other health risks

Other health risks in Norway are broadly similar to those in Australia.

Medical care

Medical facilities.

Hospitals in cities offer a high standard of care. Many medical staff speak English.

Australia has a reciprocal healthcare agreement with Norway. You can access immediate emergency medical services.

The agreement won't cover ongoing treatment of existing health conditions. You still need private travel health insurance.

Services are limited in rural and remote areas.

If you need treatment in the remote area of northern Norway or Svalbard, medical teams may evacuate you for medical care. This will take time. Medical evacuation can be very expensive and is not covered by the reciprocal health agreement.

Medicare and reciprocal healthcare agreements

You're subject to all local laws and penalties, including those that may appear harsh by Australian standards. Research local laws before travelling.

If you're arrested or jailed, the Australian Government will do what it can to help you under our  Consular Services Charter . But we can't get you out of trouble or out of jail.

If you break the law in Norway, you may be banned from the  Schengen area  for a limited time (up to 10 years) or permanently.

  • Arrested or jailed

Penalties for drug offences, even for possession of small amounts of recreational drugs or some prescription medications, include:

  • heavy fines
  • imprisonment
  • being removed from the Schengen area

If you intend to take medication, confirm it's legal in your destination. Check if any rules or restrictions apply. Depending on your medication, you may need to apply for a permit to bring it into your destination. Always carry a copy of your prescription and transport your medication in its original container.

  • Carrying or using drugs

Always carry an ID, such as your driver's licence or a copy of your passport.

If you assault someone in any way, you may be jailed.

Alcohol laws are very strict, and penalties for driving under the influence are severe. The legal limit is 0.02% blood alcohol and applies to the driver of any motorised vehicle. There are frequent roadside drink driving checks.

If you speed or drive under the influence:

  • penalties are severe
  • you may face jail or deportation
  • you may be banned from the Schengen area

Australian laws

Some Australian criminal laws still apply when you're overseas. If you break these laws, you may face prosecution in Australia.

Staying within the law and respecting customs

Dual citizenship

Norway allows dual citizenship. As a Norwegian citizen, you may have to do national service if you are aged between 19 and 44. This applies to all men and women born after 1 January 1997.

Dual nationals

Visas and border measures

Every country or territory decides who can enter or leave through its borders. For specific information about the evidence you'll need to enter a foreign destination, check with the nearest embassy, consulate or immigration department of the destination you're entering.

Visa conditions

Norway is part of the  Schengen area , along with many other European countries. You may be able to enter Norway without a tourist visa. In other situations, you'll need a visa.

Entry and exit conditions can change at short notice. Contact the nearest  embassy or consulate of Norway  for details about visas, currency, customs and quarantine rules.

Travel via Svalbard

The Norwegian territory of Svalbard is not part of the Schengen area.

If you're travelling to Svalbard, you'll need a valid passport to enter.

You must also meet  Schengen area  entry requirements when returning to Norway's mainland.

Other formalities

Norway has border controls at:

  • ferry crossings from Sweden, Denmark and Germany
  • at the land border between Norway and Sweden, and Russia.

Always carry your passport to enter and exit, even if you're travelling within the Schengen area.

Border controls between Norway and Russia have been tightened. You should only approach the border along the road leading to the  Storskog border  crossing station.

Some countries won't let you enter unless your passport is valid for 6 months after you plan to leave that country. This can apply even if you're transiting or stopping over.

Some foreign governments and airlines can be inconsistent in applying the rule. Travellers can receive conflicting advice from different sources.

You can end up stranded if your passport is not valid for more than 6 months.

The Australian Government does not set these rules. Check your passport's expiry date before you travel. If you're not sure it'll be valid long enough, consider getting  a new passport .

Lost or stolen passport

Your passport is a valuable document. It's attractive to people who may try to use your identity to commit crimes.

Some people may try to trick you into giving them your passport. Always keep it in a safe place.

If your passport is lost or stolen, tell the Australian Government as soon as possible:

  • In Australia, contact the  Australian Passport Information Service .
  • If you're overseas, contact the nearest  Australian embassy or consulate

Border crossings

Always carry your passport when crossing borders, including within the Schengen area.

Get an entry stamp in your passport from border control staff when you first enter the  Schengen area .

Passport with ‘X’ gender identifier

Although Australian passports comply with international standards for sex and gender, we can’t guarantee that a passport showing 'X' in the sex field will be accepted for entry or transit by another country. Contact the  nearest  embassy, high commission or consulate of your destination  before you arrive at the border to confirm if authorities will accept passports with 'X' gender markers.

  • LGBTI travellers

Norway's official currency is the Norwegian Kroner (NOK). Norway won't accept the Euro in most situations.

You can bring up to the equivalent of 25,000 NOK in cash into Norway.

You need to pay a customs toll and a fine if you arrive with more than 25,000 NOK.

Directorate of Norwegian Customs

Access to money

Norway accepts some foreign debit and credit cards in some outlets. These may incur a surcharge fee.

Credit card transactions usually need a credit card with a microchip and PIN, not a signature.

Local travel

Driving permit

Australian driving licences are valid in Norway for up to 3 months. However, some car rental companies may require customers to present an International Driving Permit (IDP) regardless.

You can check if your licence will be accepted in Norway, as well as minimum driving age, here:  Driving licence holders | Statens vegvesen

If you need an IDP, get this before you leave Australia. An IDP does not replace the requirement for a regular driver's licence.

If your driving licence is not written with Latin letters or doesn't include your licence number, a photograph or an issuing date, you'll need an IDP to drive in Norway.

Road travel

Speed limits are low. Roads can be dangerous in winter due to ice. The weather can change quickly, and snow can block rural roads. Plan ahead.

Rural roads are usually 2 lanes. They can be narrow and winding in mountainous regions. Take particular care when driving outside urban areas. Check signs for animal crossings, such as moose or deer crossings.

The northern lights can distract drivers, making them lose control or stop without warning. This can create a hazard for other road users.

By law, when driving, headlights must be on at all times, and it's illegal to use your mobile phone. The authorities impose heavy fines for speeding and strictly enforce drink driving law.

Norway has tyre requirements that change with the seasons. It is important that your tyres are appropriate for the weather and road surface conditions. Check official information here:  Tyre requirements | Statens vegvesen

Road rules and conditions are available at the  Norwegian Public Road Administration .

  •   Driving or riding

Motorcycles

Check that your travel insurance policy covers you when riding a motorcycle.

Always wear a helmet.

DFAT doesn't provide information on the safety of individual commercial airlines or flight paths.

Check  Norway's air safety profile  with the Aviation Safety Network.

Emergencies

Depending on what you need, contact your:

  • family and friends
  • travel agent
  • insurance provider

If not life-threatening, out-of-hours medical advice is available on +47 116117.

Always get a police report when reporting a crime.

Your insurer should have a 24-hour emergency number.

Keep in mind that there might not be mobile phone coverage where you are heading. Emergency telephones can be found on some mountain trails and in tunnels.

Consular contacts

Read the Consular Services Charter for what the Australian Government can and can't do to help you overseas.

Australia doesn't have an embassy or consulate in Norway.

You can seek emergency consular help from the Canadian Embassy in Oslo:

Canadian Embassy, Oslo

Wergelandsveien 7, 4th floor 0244 Oslo Norway Phone: (+47) 22 99 53 00 Email:  [email protected]

You can also seek consular help from the Australian Embassy in Copenhagen, Denmark:

Check the Embassy website for details about opening hours and any temporary closures.

Behind every good journey is a story.

Ours started in Iceland in 2002 with founder Ásberg Jónsson and co-founder Pálmi Jónsson. They turned their passion for exploration into Iceland’s first privately owned bicycle rental and tourist information centre in downtown Reykjavik.

Starting out with only a few staff in a tiny storefront, the start-up soon formed valuable business partnerships. This way, it provided guests more and varied ways to explore Iceland. It grew fast to include the neighbouring Nordic countries, then Scotland and the Alps.

We now have over 100 employees in our Iceland, Sweden, Scotland and German offices. And although we parked the bikes long ago, some things haven’t changed since our early days, including our commitment to high-quality, personal services.

Experience Norway on your own terms, with the level of accommodation, types of activities and travel styles that suit you best. From bespoke train and cruise holidays, to tailor-made road trips in the fjords, an adventure awaits you with a custom tour in Norway designed by the travel experts at Nordic Visitor.

Explore Norway on a bespoke holiday

Norway is a remarkably diverse country: deep fjords in the west, rugged mountains the interior, thousands of miles of beautiful coastline and an arctic region that’s a paradise for winter sports and northern lights. With so many possibilities of things to see and do in all seasons it’s good to have trusted Norwegian travel experts to guide your trip planning and create a bespoke holiday in Norway for you.

As a local travel agency, Nordic Visitor knows how to make the best use of your time in Norway. Based on the attractions you want to see, how many days you can travel and what time of the year you visit, our experienced travel consultants can customise a self-drive, train or cruise tour in Norway to your needs and interests.

Need some extra days to rest?

We can add extra nights of accommodation in your arrival or departure city, typically Oslo, so you can rest up for the journey ahead.

Want to slow down the pace?

Norwegians are all about slow travel. And with that fabulous scenery, who can blame them? If you want more time for hiking, photography, sightseeing or just plain relaxing, we can add extra days or modify your route. We can even customise Norway in a Nutshell train holidays with extra nights in Bergen and overnights in the fjord village of Flåm, for example, to break the journey into shorter daily travel times.

Feel like mixing it up a bit?

With a great network of scenic roads and railways, as well as flexible Havila or Hurtigruten cruise options on the west coast, it’s possible to travel by car, train and cruise ship all in one bespoke Norway holiday. What’s more, Nordic Visitor specialises in tailor-made tours of Scandinavia that combine the major cities of Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland with connections by train and ferry.

Planning a honeymoon?

Enjoy a stress-free custom self-drive tour in Norway, with special touches like champagne at your first accommodation and overnights in romantic settings like guesthouses in small mountain villages.

No matter how you’d like to customise your trip to Norway, you’ll have your own dedicated travel consultant at Nordic Visitor to advise you on possible changes or add-ons and make all local travel arrangements for you.

Christin, United States

Best of northern norway classic - 71° north cape, december 2023.

The tour was perfect and went smoothly the entire time. Communication from Nordic Visitor was timely and detailed. Would book with this tour company again.

Ian, United Kingdom

Norway road trip - complete, july 2023, memories we'll cherish forever.

We found Norway to be a fabulous country and enjoyed every minute of our trip. The scenery was fantastic, the places visited were brilliant and the people were incredibly friendly and helpful. The information pack provided by Nordic Visitor was invaluable, the route chosen for us was superb and the places we stayed in were great. Likewise, the excursions offered, especially the Rib Safari were fantastic and gave us memories we'll cherish forever. Lastly, but by no means least, Irja, our travel consultant, couldn't have been more helpful and I would like to extend a huge thank you to her for all that she did.

Anne-Mari, Finland

Best of northern norway classic - 71° north cape, february 2023, unforgettable in so many ways.

It was unforgettable in so many ways, highlights after highlights. We knew to expect a lot after our trip to Iceland a couple of years ago, also organised by Nordic Visitor. Our expectations were exceeded and more. We saw northern lights three times, the food everywhere was excellent, experienced dog sledding in the moonlight and sleeping in the SnowHotel, and we saw a white reindeer! How lucky we are to have experienced all that. We have now returned home, happy and full of awe.

James, Australia

Northern lights by train and cruise, october 2023, a great experience.

Very well-organised tour and a great experience. Nordic Visitor were very professional and their experience was evident in choosing the well-located and comfortable accommodation they selected for us. Best of all we got to see the northern lights!

Jonathan, United States

Norway fjord route by car - classic, june 2023, incredibly happy.

Our travel agent, Małgorzata, was amazing to work with! She was able to add a few extra days in Oslo and arranged transportation via train to Bergen. Overall, I thought booking this vacation online and making payments was seamless. All the hotels we stayed in were nice, clean and safe! We loved the breakfast buffets, they were top notch! Also, collecting our rental car and navigating in a foreign country was seamless. We are incredibly happy that our tour package that we received at our first hotel included a physical map that had our tour highlighted.

Costel, Romania

Northern lights norway classic, february 2023, i'll be recommending nordic visitor to my friends.

The trip was really amazing. We had an absolutely superb time in Tromsø; hotel and excursions were spot on. The guide and whole the staff was really professional. Professional photos taken by the guide were really fantastic. They gave us excellent care, more than what we have experienced on any trip. Our favourite experience was the snowmobile, but catamaran trip was great too. Certainly I will be recommending it to my friends. I was very pleased that those who delivered the services showed a lot of professionalism.

Violetta, United States

Best of the norwegian fjords – express, august 2023, very satisfied customer.

This was my second experience using Nordic Visitor. I am a very satisfied customer. A few years ago we did a self-drive tour of Iceland that was just amazing. This time we did a train/cruise combo tour of Norway. Once again, I can only say you will have a fantastic experience and you will appreciate the labuor of organising and planning being handled by experts who know what they are doing. The cruises through the fjords were beautiful as were the train trips. We loved the combination of train and boat travel as each offered distinct beauty from a different perspective. The country is truly lovely and we look forward to booking future travel with Nordic Visitor!

Dian, United States

Classic norway, may 2023, extraordinary.

Extraordinary! Everything went off as planned without a hitch. Our travel guide, Juliana, was exceptional, very responsive in answering our questions and providing updates.

Oi, Singapore

Norway in a nutshell® - classic, september 2022, very satisfied with nordic visitor.

We were very satisfied with the tour and overall experience with Nordic Visitor. The hotels were strategically chosen and the quality of hotels was satisfactory. The optional tours were also highly recommended. Timings of the schedules throughout the tour were ideal and not rushed.

Julie, United States

Wonders of the norwegian fjords, august 2023, best vacation we ever had.

Our family of 5 (3 adult children) loved our Norway fjord tour. We saw the most beautiful scenery and loved each hotel. The food was delicious. Something for everyone. Our guide Al and driver Chris kept things running smoothly. We will have memories to last a lifetime. Thank you Nordic Visitor. Best vacation we ever had!

Alan, United Kingdom

Norway in a nutshell® express - winter, march 2023, an excellent decision to book with nordic visitor.

Following research, we decided to book with Nordic Visitor. This was an excellent decision. The booking process was easy and informative and Hanna was always available for guidance. The accommodation provided was top class and, importantly, convenient to the train stations from which we travelled. Our tour was amazing throughout with stunning scenery and sights.

Gailmarie, United States

Highlights of norway, july 2022, the tour gives you a fabulous overview of norway.

The tour gives you a fabulous overview of Norway. We did a lot of travel in between sights but this enabled us to have a real breadth of experience, from fjords to mountain passes, railway adventures and small boats. Our tour guide was excellent and the sights and experiences outlined for us were top-notch. The materials provided about our tour were excellent and well thought out.

Berg-Hansen Reisebureau

smart co travel agency norway

On the 25th of January 1875 a young man by the name Ole Berg-Hansen placed an advertisement in the Christiania (Oslo) newspaper “Morgenbladet”. It proclaimed that on 31st of January 1875 he would receive cargo and passengers at “Christiania harbour or the nearest place where the sea-ice will meet open waters”. That ad represented the modest start of this travel agency.

The rest is history…

Today, Berg-Hansen Reisebureau is one of Norway’s leading travel agencies and supplies all types of travel services – including corporate travel, group travel/events, leisure travel, vacation package deals, etc. Berg-Hansen also is a major Professional Congress Organizer.

Berg-Hansen handles the total travel arrangements for many of Norway’s largest companies.

As one of Norway’s leading travel agencies, Berg-Hansen has got some 30 branches across the country. All Berg-Hansen offices are approved IATA-agents, licensed to issue all types of airline tickets and other travel documents.

Berg-Hansen focuses on cost optimisation and maximum return on its customers’ travel investments. High competence, professionalism, innovative solutions, and cutting-edge technology are key elements in Berg-Hansen’s success and competitive advantages.

Berg-Hansen is internationally affiliated with Carlson Wagonlit Travel with its approximately 3000 offices in 150 countries. Together the two companies develop products to satisfy discerning national and international customers. This affiliation gives Berg-Hansen a unique purchase-power and negotiating position towards airlines, hotels, and other vendors, which enables the travel agency to present highly competitive travel arrangements to its customers.
