BREWERIES WE TOUR

Port Orleans Logo_edited.png

PORT ORLEANS BREWING

Port Orleans Brewing Co. was founded in 2017 by 5 partners with the managing partner being retired Saints offensive tackle Zach Strief. Strief has taken the brewery in a great direction, adding a beer garden and even sending hops into space!

The brewery has focused its efforts on perfecting lagering with two of their most notable beers being Riverfront, an american style, and Dorada a mexican style lager.

URBAN_SOUTH_Nola-Logos-Ombre-Teal-Outline-04.png

URBAN SOUTH BREWERY

Urban South Brewery was founded in 2016 by Jacob Landry and Kyle Huling with the intention of combining the heritage of European beer making with the brashness of new American styles.

With their instant classics signature brews, Paradise Park and Holy Roller IPA, Urban South has taken New Orleans by storm as well as rapidly increasing their production and distribution capacity year over year.

nola_brewingco_logo.png

NOLA BREWING

NOLA Brewing Company brews 8 beers year round, which are served in bars throughout the Southeast United States, as well as in grocery stores throughout Louisiana.

As New Orleans longest running craft brewery they have seen great success, expanding their distribution to 8 states while also creating a raft of seasonal, specialty, and charity beers! Also featuring NYC style pizza in their newly constructed taproom.

PRIVATE BEWERY TOURS

Bachelor parties, corporate events and birthdays.

Reserve a private bus and guide for your private party! All of our private tours include: door to door transportation, 6 beer samples & behind the scenes access to the brewing floors. Y’all will do more than just drink on this tour, we also cover how the beer is made, the ingredients, the history of the breweries and some fun insider info on New Orleans.

Our private tours start with a pickup from your hotel or Airbnb and head directly to three local breweries. Try two beers of your choosing at each stop, which is more than enough for most of our private parties! Each of the three breweries are unique from the: design, beer, food and overall vibe. Oftentimes one of the breweries has live music (especially on the weekends) and sometimes even a crawfish boil. At the end of your tour we can drop your party off anywhere in the downtown area.

3 Hour Tour - $79 per person + $300 private party fee

Our story began with a casual conversation between two friends who generally spent Friday afternoons together enjoying a few beers at  Nola Brewing . In the spring of 2016, on a typical Friday, founders, Peter and Patrick decided to take the initiative and find a solution for providing easy access – for the millions of tourists visiting New Orleans throughout the year – to the amazing craft beer and the growing number of breweries opening in and around town.

Holy City Brewing

Since opening in 2011, Holy City has continued to grow, quickly becoming North Charleston’s largest craft brewery. Tucked between a Honda recreational dealer and a collision shop, Holy City has turned an industrial building into a craft beer oasis.

Holy City consistently has 20 of their beers on tap, in addition to draft wine and non-alcoholic root beer. In Holy City’s case, quality is not swapped for quantity. You will only find great, fine-tuned beverages poured at this brewery. And if you need third-party validation, how about Holy City winning a gold at the Great American Beer for their Pluff Mud Porter and a bronze for their Washout Wheat.  Both beers are flagship, so they’re always on tap.

Holy City also has a full kitchen that’s open for lunch, dinner, and brunch, and it more than meets the high standards of Lowcountry cuisine. Only appetizing food is coming out of their kitchen.

Live music and yoga events are commonplace at Holy City, so be sure to check out their event calendar.

The Best Brewery in Seattle: Fremont Brewing .

On This Page Best Seattle Breweries Downtown Seattle Breweries Capitol Hill Breweries Ballard Breweries Fremont Breweries Interbay Breweries SoDo Breweries Georgetown Breweries Leschi Breweries Best Brewery Tours & Tastings Old Ballard Brewery Tour – Fun & interesting tour of the best neighborhood in Seattle for local craft breweries. Fishermen’s Terminal Brewery Tour – Great beer amid a waterfront setting. Pike Brewing Tour & Tasting – Excellent brewery tour of this Pike Place Market institution. (Unfortunately, temporarily canceled as of October, 2023.) Many of Seattle’s best breweries are located outside of downtown. I’ve included transit information when applicable, but most of these spots are a cheap cab/Lyft/Uber from downtown Seattle. A few breweries operate like pubs and serve food. Those that don’t, usually welcome outside food being brought (or ordered) in. Check taproom hours before you go. Many keep odd hours and aren’t open late. Many breweries and taprooms are kid- and dog-friendly. If you’ve found a great spot that’s not on the list, and you’re unsure whether dogs or children are welcome, it’s a good idea to call. The Pike Place Market Chef-Guided Food Tour is our favorite tour in downtown Seattle.

Downtown Seattle Breweries

Brewery in Pike Place Market.

The awesome views and outdoor patio at Old Stove Brewing in Pike Place Market .

Old Stove Brewing Co. Pike Place Market’s newest brewery provides a perfect pit stop during a day spent sightseeing. They’ve got 16 hand-crafted local beers on tap, as well as a rotating cider and wine selection, all housed within a comfortable, airy space that has wonderful views and is open to the outdoors in nice weather. The long picnic-style tables are ideal for large groups or making friends. Take home your favorite brew in a 32oz “crowler.” (It’s an old-school beer can filled and closed right in front of you.) Hours • Website • Reviews • 1901 Western Ave

Cloudburst Brewing

Tucked into an unassuming spot on Pike Place Market’s northern edge, Cloudburst distributes bold and refreshing ales often infused with unexpected citrus notes and other, more eccentric touches. The founder, Steve Luke, was previously the experimental brewer at Elysian, and sampling his latest creations with the other connoisseurs gathered by the narrow, open-air entryway is a distinctly Seattle pleasure. Of the many delicious options, be sure to try the Market Saison, which rotates new flavor combinations based off the Market’s freshest ingredients (strawberry and mint, on a recent, early summer visit). The good folks at Cloudburst welcome outside food and well-behaved dogs, but ask that you leave the kiddos at home. Hours • Website • Reviews • 2116 Western Avenue

Pike Brewing Company

A Pike Place Market stalwart, and one of the biggest outfits on this list, Pike Brewery has been creating great craft beer since 1989. They create seven beers year-round (the Kilt Lifter Scotch-style ale and XXXXX Stout are particularly popular), as well as limited and seasonal beers like Harlot’s Harvest pumpkin ale and Auld Acquaintance Hoppy Holiday Ale. Their in-house pub offers a good selection of local and organic alehouse-style grub, and with $5 and a reservation you can tour the brewery and see and sample their beer-making process in action. Pike Pub and Brewery is very family-friendly – they’ve got a great kids’ menu, and kids over 6 are welcome on the brewery tours (they tour free) – but no dogs allowed. Hours • Website • Reviews • 1415 1st Avenue

Capitol Hill Breweries

Elysian brewing company.

Despite being purchased by Anheuser-Busch in 2015, Elysian remains a Seattle institution, with four different locations now open since launching in 1996. Their home base is still on Capitol Hill, in a cavernous and often-crowded space offering solid pub food, alongside standards like the beloved Immortal IPA and a rotating selection of seasonal options and limited editions. Of the latter, keep an eye out for The Dread, a dark and rich Imperial Stout aged in oak barrels and hopped up with admirable gusto. While being owned by AB may have cut into Elysian’s hip factor, the welcoming vibe of the venue and broadly enjoyable flavors of the brews (which have lost none of their crispness since the merger) make it a fun, easy stop on any beer lover’s tour of the city. Kid-friendly til 11pm. (From downtown: Take the light rail to the Capitol Hill station – Elysian is about an 8-10 minute walk away – or take one of numerous buses (11, 49, 2, 7) that serve the pike/pine corridor.) Hours • Website • Reviews • 1221 East Pike Street

Ballard Breweries

Best brewery in Ballard neighborhood of Seattle.

Reuben’s Brews in the hip Ballard neighborhood of North Seattle.

Reuben’s Brews Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood has become extremely popular, and with that popularity the character of the area has seen a major shift toward fancy restaurants, boutique stores, and expansive residential development. But Ballard cuts a wide swath across the city’s northwest corner, and there are still pockets of the rickety warehouse spaces that once helped define its personality. Reuben’s has taken advantage of that lingering understated vibe, putting one of Seattle’s best breweries in the middle of a low-key residential/industrial area. The beer selection is extensive, with traditionally-brewed and barrel-aged favorites; even a small (but potent) collection of sours – a rarity in Seattle. Reuben’s is kid/dog-friendly and welcomes outside food: order a pie at a discount from the adjacent Zeek’s pizza (a Seattle institution), or grab a bite from one of the rotation of food trucks that drops by daily. (From downtown: Your easiest route is the “rapid ride” D line from downtown; get off right after crossing the Ballard Bridge at Leary. From there, it’s a 5-10 minute stroll to the northeast.) Hours • Website • Reviews • 5010 14th Avenue Northwest

Stoup Brewing

Right around the corner from Reuben’s in the same “Ballard brewery district” is Stoup Brewing, whose specialties include their renowned stouts and porters – the Robust Porter is a particular dark chocolatey favorite. Their beloved Citra IPA has a summery burst of bitter that offsets the malty goodness of their darker offerings. You can find their ales on tap and available in limited supply in a number of venues around the city, but the tasting room is definitely worth seeking out, especially if you’re on a Ballard-centric crawl. Low-key and friendly, they’ve got butcher paper and crayons for the kids, and their charming outdoor area is great for groups. Dogs and outside food are welcome – there’s usually a food truck parked nearby. (From downtown: Your easiest route is the “rapid ride” D line from downtown; get off right after crossing the Ballard Bridge at Leary. From there, it’s a 5-10 minute stroll to the northeast.) Hours • Website • Reviews • 1108 Northwest 52nd Street

Bad Jimmy’s Brewing Co.

If Seattle’s top-flight tasting rooms tend to have a ramshackle feel to them, Bad Jimmy’s, set along Leary Way’s industrial edge, is no exception. It has a back-alley warehouse space resembling a converted garage, and a deliberate lack of pretension that puts the focus on the beer. The brew-loving crew behind the operation have made better use of the building than most others, however: aggressively red-lit and styled with a kind of punk/rockabilly aesthetic, the venue often hosts parties in the upstairs loft space, as well as events in the indoor/outdoor area out front. Jimmy’s indulges in some enhancements and filtering which beer purists might initially dismiss as too precious, but their subtle infusions tweak core, hop-derived flavors in ways that don’t overwhelm. Recently they featured a “Mai Tai PA” (say it out loud) that incorporated pineapple and orange accents while delivering the bitter edge that IPA lovers expect. Well-behaved dogs and outside food are welcome. Kids are welcome til 7pm. (From downtown: the 40 and 28 buses can get you within a few blocks.) Hours • Website • Reviews • 4358-B Leary Way Northwest

Fremont Breweries

Fremont brewing.

My favorite brewery in Seattle and the best outdoor patio of any Seattle brewery. Kids and dogs welcome indoors and out. It’s a popular stop for cyclists riding the Burke-Gilman path (just across the street). Free pretzels and apples but no menu so bring take-out from Fremont’s large array of restaurants (most are 2 to 4 blocks away). Fill growlers, grab 6-packs to go, or buy top quality hats, t-shirts, and hoodies. Oh, and the beer is awesome too. (From downtown: the 28 bus stops 2 blocks to the west of the brewery.) Hours • Website • Reviews • 1050 N 34th Street

Interbay Breweries

Holy mountain brewing.

Situated in an industrial, plain part of town – as many of booming Seattle’s best breweries are – Holy Mountain is referred to by many in almost reverent tones. That aura of specialness is partially explained by the impermanence of their approach; unlike a lot of even the smallest, spunkiest breweries, Holy Mountain has no recurring “standard” beers. The whole menu rotates out with seasonality and, often, secondary fermentation that keeps any one beer from staying consistently available. A visit in June yields hoppy saisons and Czech-style Pilsners; in December, the featured ale could be an Imperial Stout aged in bourbon barrels. The tasting room itself is aggressively sparse and modern/warehouse chic without trying too hard, complete with hardwood booths and a sliding door on the back wall that opens out into a field of train tracks. It’s a place of worship for beer aficionados and Northwest hipsters alike. Bring in your outside food, but leave the kids and dogs at home. (From downtown: The trusty D line drops you within a few blocks.) Hours • Website • Reviews • 1421 Elliott Avenue West

SoDo Breweries

Ghostfish brewing.

The first and only dedicated gluten-free craft brewery in the state, Ghostfish produces top-notch brews that even gluten-frindlies will love. By eschewing the use of barley in favor of malted gluten-free grains like millet and buckwheat, the brewers at Ghostfish get the most out of the hops they use, giving rise to monstrous (and delicious) beers like the “Peak Buster” double IPA and its 130 IBU. They also excel at Belgian-style ales; the Shrouded Summit Witbier is opaque and citrusy, with a nice, bracing hint of juniper in the finish. Both ales are on the “flagship” list, and available year round. Besides being gluten-free, Ghostfish distinguishes itself by fashioning a proper restaurant/pub experience out of their tasting room: They offer a full menu (gluten-free, of course, with many vegetarian and vegan options) and flat screens showing Mariners, Seahawks, or Sounders games (all three teams play only a mile away from here in the Stadium district). Family-friendly until 7pm, dog-friendly always. (From downtown: The 21 bus will drop you within a block. However, you will have to pass the stadiums to get there, so take note of any events that might be happening, as related traffic will add to travel times) Hours • Website • Reviews • 2942 1st Avenue South

Georgetown Breweries

Machine house brewery.

Set in the increasingly trendy industrial neighborhood of Georgetown, Machine House Brewing specializes in ales derived from English hops. This gives rise to some debate in local beer-drinking circles, since unlike many Northwest specialty brewers, the beers they concoct are relatively mild. Those seeking complex bitterness and through-the-roof IBU counts might thus be slightly disappointed, but if you are after an easy-drinking, reasonably low alcohol beverage, this is a fantastic choice. Set just off Georgetown’s main drag along Airport Way, the room is housed in the old Rainier Brewing location: a hulking—yet welcoming—brick warehouse, with indoor/outdoor areas that accommodates live music events, art openings, and other events. There’s no kitchen, but Machine house welcomes outside food, and is dog/family-friendly – they even have a corner play area with toys and games for the littlest customers. (Getting there from downtown: Regular bus service runs from routes 124 and 106; by car, it’s reachable in 10-15 minutes. One note: You will have to pass the stadiums to get there, so take note of any events that might be happening, as related traffic will add to travel times.) Hours • Website • Reviews • 5840 Airport Way South

Leschi Breweries

Standard brewing.

Hop heaven for beer drinkers, Standard’s output is small, but potent. The tasting room is just a little wedge, with a fairly expansive outdoor area – a constant lure for nearby residents and devotees who come from across the city. While IPAs are the order of the day here, Standard founder Justin Gerardy keeps the alcohol content (ABV) reasonable, and his brews highly sip-able on both rainy days and sunny afternoons alike. No food, but the staff is fine with you bringing in nearby grub; the Atlantic across the street offers a great selection of local cheese and hearty salads, among other dishes. Well-behaved dogs and children are welcome. (Getting there from downtown: The 8, 14, and 27 buses all get you close, but you might consider a taxi or Uber; from the downtown core, it’s likely a sub-$10 fare.) The Components of a Successful Experiential Beer Tour

beer tour holy

Taking a walking tour is one of the best ways to get to know a city without the trappings of more touristy activities. You’re introduced to the region and its context by one of its very own, if even simply for social reasons. I’ve taken many tours on my explorations as a travel journalist, in towns filled to the brim with craft beer and places just starting to see the light. In most any city with a vibrant craft beer culture, you can bet I’ll sniff out a fun ale trail or tour. And what’s most inspiring has little to do with the design of breweries, and everything to do with the actual tour’s design.

Dustyn Brewer

An invaluable community member, he champions the idea of bringing such tours to Clarksville saying, “We know who and what we are, and that goes right in line with offering more craft beer amenities to the community. So, for beer tourism it makes sense to be involved. The more the merrier.” Brewer worked diligently with local lawmakers to pass Tennessee bill HB1085/SB1022 allowing individuals to walk in the downtown entertainment district with a semi-sealed open container on specified occasions.

The bike culture in Clarksville also seems to be catching wind with its rolling hills and picturesque landscapes. Just as hops and barley go together, so does cycling and beer. Such affinity proved most evident with the first year of Tour de France in 1903 which was a literal picnic on wheels where the beer and wine consumed were for merely nutritional purposes, wink wink.

Here in the states, brew brands such as New Belgium Brewing have taken this perfect pairing and ran (or pedaled in this instance) with it. Yet, while having an accident on a bicycle might not be the ticket you want, and it may even become the butt of your friend’s jokes, it’s something to consider. That’s why designing tours with safety top priority is so important.

In the state where big is always best, “Texans are used to using vehicles to cover a lot of ground. A big part of establishing the city tours is the awareness of how safe and fun cycling is,” says Bronwen Gregory, the previous visitor experience director for Visit Fort Worth. “While former Mayor Betty Price and now Mayor Mattie Parker are extremely bike-friendly, both have been happy to support anything in a healthful way.” Each year the city promotes a special Tour de Fort Worth to coincide with Tour de France, and also presents a rolling Town Hall.

fort worth social ride

Still, if you want a guided bike and brew tour, 6-Pack Trail coordinates craft brewery bike tours in Fort Worth on the 2nd Saturday of every other month. Led by a knowledgeable beer guide, participants travel 10 miles and visit seven of Cowtown’s inventive craft breweries, including five that are part of the Craft Brewers Guild: Rahr & Sons, Martin House , Wild Acre , HopFusion and Funky Picnic . At each stop, beer enthusiasts receive one 8-ounce beer, concluding with dinner at female-owned and operated, Funky Picnic. A fun portable stein, bottled water and general bike maintenance are complimentary.

kayak bike and brew paddlers on the river

“The people are happy. They are always excited. Whenever they come in they are in a good mood, even if it’s misting or raining. It’s infectious. The guides are really good and in control. They are the reason the people are in a good mood. They are fun and informative,” says Russ Springsteen of Right Brain Brewery , one of the three to four stops in the craft forward town on Lake Michigan.

Using roadways and waterways for commerce to the public, Daily believes in “keeping it cleaner than we use it,” encouraging conversations while on the tour about environmental impact, and routinely welcoming river and roadway clean-up days. The tours are ADA compliant, and routinely sell out on the weekends. Two-weeks in advance weekend reservations are recommended, with regular weekday availability. “You are going to get wet. You’re going to meet other people. So, to be able to be social is important. And, if you enjoy your ride, tip your guide,” says Daily.

While peddling and paddling trend with craft tourists seeking to explore their destination, so has the Certified Cicerone designation for some tour operators.

Amy Beers (yes that’s her real name) of Indianapolis-based Drinking with Beers says, “It all boils down to what’s walkable,” and she weaves history, good product, and service into all of her neighborhood walking brewery tours. When she first started out in 2018, Beers began with her love for beer and travel, and felt that these affinities were a perfect pairing. But, when she hosted a booth at the fair showcasing her newly curated tours, she remembers a lady asking what qualified her to teach about beer.

Less than a year later, Beers received her Certified Cicerone, making her one of nearly 4,300 worldwide. “I like to educate, but also have fun,” says Beers. “It’s a great way for them to feel connected to Indianapolis.”

Indy Beer Mile

Gary Glancy also acquired his Certified Cicerone designation, and offered his first craft beer tour in Greenville, S.C., called The Brewery Experience in 2016. And, like Beers, Glancy uses multimedia to make his tours unforgettable.

After he left the newspaper business as a full-time journalist in 2012, Sierra Nevada, New Belgium, and Oskar Blues all had announced their plans for new South Carolina locations. So, Glancy took a solo trip across America stopping at the breweries’ flagship locations along with a smattering of other breweries and National Parks, while also attending the Great American Beer Festival in Denver for the first time.

Gary Glancy as Forest Gump

Garnering extensive back-of-the-house knowledge working as a beerkeep for Catawba   in Asheville, Glancy says that his tours wouldn’t be possible without such experience coupled with the relationships he’s made with the breweries.” From the largest brewery at Thomas Creek to somewhere like Straight 8,” he explains, “People want to meet the owners. Once they feel like they bond with the owners, they’re more likely to buy product.” As his tours wrap up the credits roll from Glancy’s movie showing at the front of the van. “It’s fun to watch complete strangers bond over 3.5 hours and are the best of buds by the end,” he says.

I’m still in the design process of my Clarksville tours. But, if I’ve learned anything from the tour operators I’ve met along the way, it’s that everything hinges upon human relations, which could be said for most any successful venture, really. Back at King’s Bluff, Brewer told me once when I landed on offering tours as my side hustle, “Exclusivity never did anything but put you on an island without a boat.” The design of my new venture is taking longer than I expected. But, one thing’s for sure: Inclusivity will mean everything if I plan to stay afloat.

FREE SATURDAY TOURS ARE BACK! EVERY 3rd SATURDAY, ROLLING FROM 12-3PM

Tours are FREE and very informal; just show up between noon and 3:00pm, socialize with like-minded beer folks and we’ll put you on the next available tour. You’ll learn about brewing, our historic brewery building, what makes Philadelphia Brewing Co unique, and maybe a few completely useless tidbits as well.

Our historic brewery building, built in 1885 in Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood, was originally home to the Weisbrod and Hess Oriental Brewery. Today we are proud to carry on Philadelphia’s brewery tradition brewing, packaging and distributing bottles and kegs of our own finely-crafted beers.

LARGE GROUPS: There is no need to call ahead or make a reservation unless you have a large group. We ask that large groups arrive before 2:00 pm. Give us a call at 215-427-2739.

You will not be served if you are visibly intoxicated. We are a production brewery, so we don’t have a kitchen and don’t serve food. No pets on the tour please.

Proud mom Madonna says her kids have put ‘blood, sweat and tears’ into Celebration Tour performances

Madonna with kids David, Mercy, Estere and Stella

Madonna is proud of her children for working hard as performers in her ongoing Celebration Tour.

“I think what my children learned the most in this year of rehearsing and performing is that if you want to follow your dreams, you have to work hard for them,” the pop superstar, 65, said in an interview with W magazine published Wednesday.

“And if all of them choose something different later in life, they will never forget this year of blood, sweat, and tears.”

As Madonna prepared to hit the road for the concert series — a spectacle that honors her four decades in the spotlight — she tapped her four youngest kids, David, 18, Mercy, also 18, plus 11-year-old twins Stella and Estere, to showcase their unique talents on stage.

Madonna

“Because the Celebration Tour is a retrospective of my life, I thought it made perfect sense to include all of my children still living with me in the show; they all dance and play musical instruments, and have been doing so for years,” the “Ray of Light” singer told the publication.

“David has played guitar since he was a child. Mercy has played piano since she was 8 and she’s been classically trained most of her life. Eventually, when I adopted the twins, they started to play piano and dance as well.”

Madonna noted that there is “always an endless parade of dancing and [performing arts] teachers coming and going in our house,” so it only made sense to give her children a bigger platform to shine on the Celebration Tour.

A show highlight for the Grammy winner is when daughter Mercy accompanies her on piano during a powerful rendition of her 1993 ballad “Bad Girl.”

“I saw a strange, poetic juxtaposition of hedonism and exploration emerging into the light of Mercy, sitting stoically at her grand piano playing Chopin as she beckoned me towards her, making me think about the choices I have made in my life,” Madonna said, explaining how that specific moment came to be.

“Singing ‘Bad Girl’ was kind of my confession to her, and I felt we had an unspoken understanding of what was happening.”

Meanwhile, David duets with his mom on “Mother and Father” from her 2003 album, “American Life.”

“‘Mother and Father’ is one of my favorite moments in the show because it gave me a chance to not only honor my mother and her memory but also to honor David’s mother and her memory,” she said of the young creative, whom she adopted from Malawi in 2006.

Madonna and son David

“He has always wanted to sing and play guitar. He loves being on stage — this is nothing new. Much of the show is about motherhood, family, and the importance of that in my artistic life.”

As for Stella and Estere, the girls dance their hearts out when Madonna sings her 2000 smash “Don’t Tell Me,” and also during a section in the show that pays homage to ballroom and the art of vogueing.

“While Estere was learning how to DJ, she became interested in ballroom competitions. Just by luck, one of my choreographer’s assistants, Ivy Mugler, has her own ballroom house called House of Mugler,” she says of how the two became interested in that sect of dance.

Madonna and others onstage

“She started taking Estere aside during rehearsals to another room—and within a couple of weeks she was doing death drops and spins and surprising us with her ability. So, of course we had to turn that section of the show into Estere’s Ball.”

Madonna is also mom to Lourdes “Lola” Leon, 27 — whom she shares with ex Carlos Leon — and Rocco Ritchie, 23 — whom she shares with ex-husband Guy Ritchie. Her eldest have also participated in her tours, including 2012’s MDNA Tour, for which Lourdes worked in the wardrobe department while Rocco performed on stage.

“I have always been blessed with children who are interested in music, dance and art. Starting from the top with Lola, who was not only an incredible ballet dancer and a rhythmic gymnast, she also switches to musical theater and contemporary dance,” she said.

Madonna with her kids

The eternal hitmaker acknowledged that “nothing brings [her] more happiness” than collaborating with her kids.

“It would be boring if they were just traveling from hotel to hotel, and occasionally coming to watch the show,” she elaborated. “Of course, I am their mother so sometimes we get on each other’s nerves. We are a family of artists but we are also a family, and that’s what happens.”

The Celebration Tour’s next stop is Friday in Mexico City, followed by a final — and free — show in Rio de Janeiro on May 4.

The black crowes impress as ‘happiness bastards’ tour rocks and rolls on.

“Alright!” shouted a clearly excited Chris Robinson last week as the Black Crowes performed on stage in Chicago. “Friday night at the rock and roll show!”

Following last month’s release of their latest studio album Happiness Bastards , their ninth, the Crowes performed Friday night in Chicago at Aragon Ballroom about halfway through the U.S. leg of their current tour, a lengthy jaunt set to take them abroad next month ahead of fall and winter dates in support of Aerosmith’s rescheduled “Peace Out” North American farewell tour.

“When we saw we were coming back to the Aragon, we were very excited,” said Robinson late, noting the group’s first performance in the picturesque room in almost 25 years. “And we’re very excited to have Glyders opening for us. They’re from this town, check them out,” he continued, lauding the work of the Chicago-based, psychedelic garage rock trio (as a cardboard cutout of Chuck Berry looked on from the venue’s balcony).

Over the course of 35 minutes, Glyders offered up a rewarding, lo-fi opening set.

“Cheers, everyone!” said bassist Eliza Weber early. Singer/guitarist Joshua Condon and drummer Joe Seger would soon find a groove during standout tracks like “Geneva Strangemod” and “High Time,” both from their 2023 full-length debut Maria’s Hunt.

Since we were first introduced in 1990, the Crowes have tallied a pair of platinum albums and three gold records, with Happiness Bastards , the group’s first studio album of original material in nearly 15 years, a worthy addition to their unique brand of southern-fried rock and roll.

“There’s a little town about 90 miles south of Atlanta called Macon, Georgia,” Robinson explained Friday night in Chicago, spotlighting the group’s roots. “Little Richard is from Macon. And the Allman Brothers Band,” he began, just one day removed from the death of co-founding Allman Brothers guitarist Dickey Betts. “But there’s another: the greatest soul singer of all time, Otis Redding,” he continued. “Well, we jumped on that song and it goes like this,” said Robinson, setting up a late take on one of the biggest Black Crowes hits in Redding’s “Hard to Handle.”

While recent tours celebrated their Shake Your Money Maker record, this one makes the case for the new project, with the Black Crowes performing six songs from it over the course of about 95 minutes on stage Friday in Chicago.

As they do on the album too, “Bedside Manners” and “Rats and Clowns,” two of Happiness Bastards ’ more rollicking moments, kicked things off Friday night.

Performing as an 8 piece group, drummer Cully Symington and keyboard player Erik Deutsch were set beside backing vocalists Mackenzie Adams and Lesley Grant atop a unique two-tiered stage built to resemble stacks upon stacks of vintage amplifiers and audio equipment.

Frontman Chris Robinson, who performed in front of a large mirror, was joined on stage by guitarists Rich Robinson and Nico Bereciartua as well as longtime bassist Sven Pipien. Festive lighting strung over, along and behind the stage flanked the group who performed under a massive “Happiness Bastards” banner hanging from the lighting rig over the stage.

“Good to see you all. Welcome to the ‘Happiness Bastards!’” said Chris early in Friday’s set. “We’ve got some new songs and we got some old ones - like this!” he said, shuffling left before pointing right at Rich on the slide guitar, ultimately bunnyhopping in reverse back to center stage as “Twice As Hard” rang out early in Chicago.

Robinson was in fine form Friday, a rejuvenated frontman shimmying about while delivering a still impressive lead vocal, with the new music cementing a once unthinkable rebirth for the Black Crowes, who’ve continually staked their claim as one of America’s best rock acts since reforming in 2019.

From 1996’s Three Snakes and One Charm , “Nebakanezer” was an early highlight in Chicago. The gnarly dual guitar riffwork of “Horsehead,” from 1999’s By Your Side followed, providing one of Friday’s more rewarding one-two punches.

While “Oh Josephine” slowed things down momentarily, “Thorn in my Pride” found the group beginning to roll, with Chris on harmonica as the Crowes delivered an all hands, Stones-like jam to close the cut.

“Everyone say hello to Rich Robinson,” said Chris, gesturing toward his younger brother. With a wave of his right hand, Rich greeted the rapturuous Chicago crowd, soon strumming in the familiar opening licks to “She talks to Angels” on acoustic guitar.

From the new record, “Flesh Wound” followed, quickly proving to be a late high spot. The saccharine-drenched affair was a blast in the live setting, conjuring up the power pop stylings of Cheap Trick as the Black Crowes soared forward in fun fashion.

The brothers Robinson leaned in close, singing into the same mic during “Jealous Again” before closing with “Remedy,” with Chris back on harp as the new “Kindred Friend” wrapped things up in the Windy City.

“What is a band, other than something you dream up?” asked Chris rhetorically on stage in Chicago. “This band started in our mom and dad’s house in the 80s,” he continued, noting the pair’s humble roots. “And that dream will continue on.”

Nelly Korda’s record-tying win streak resonates with Scottie Scheffler, TOUR pros

Nelly Korda celebrates after winning The Chevron Championship. (Gregory Shamus/Getty Images)

Nelly Korda celebrates after winning The Chevron Championship. (Gregory Shamus/Getty Images)

Despite four wins in five starts, Scottie Scheffler says his run doesn’t compare

Change Text Size

After winning the RBC Heritage in a Monday finish, Scottie Scheffler was asked if he felt a sense of competition between himself and Nelly Korda. It was a fair question, as the top-ranked men’s and women’s players have gone on simultaneous tears this spring. Scheffler has won four of his last five TOUR starts, finishing second in the other, while Korda tied an LPGA record Sunday by winning her fifth straight start at The Chevron Championship.

Yet despite being amidst a historic run as the first player since Tiger Woods (2007-08) to record five straight top-two finishes on TOUR, Scheffler didn’t see his stretch as comparable.

“One of the people here asked me, like, ‘Is this turning into a competition between you and Nelly?’ and I was like, I don't know, man, I think if it's a competition, she's got me pretty beat right now,” Scheffler said Monday. “Five wins in a row … it's pretty special stuff. To win four times in a row and then show up at a major championship and win is extremely impressive. So I'm extremely happy for her.”

Scheffler joked that Korda’s season-opening T16 finish was “just terrible; I can’t believe she did that” – clearly in jest – as the top-ranked women’s pro has since taken flight with victories at the LPGA Drive On Championship, Fir Hills Seri Pak Championship, Ford Championship, T-Mobile Match Play and The Chevron Championship, the latter four of which have occurred in the last five calendar weeks.

With Sunday’s victory at the LPGA’s first major championship of 2024, Korda tied Annika Sorenstam and Nancy Lopez with wins in five straight LPGA starts. Only three players have authored such streaks on TOUR: Tiger Woods, Byron Nelson and Ben Hogan.

Woods won five straight starts across 2007-08, six straight across 1999-2000, and seven straight across 2006-07. Hogan won six straight starts in 1948. Nelson won a record 11 consecutive starts in 1945.

Korda’s run – which Scheffler would’ve paralleled if not for a one-stroke defeat to Stephan Jaeger at last month’s Texas Children’s Houston Open – holds a well-earned spot in golf history. Scheffler and his fellow TOUR pros have taken notice. Wyndham Clark called Korda’s run “amazing” after the RBC Heritage’s final round, and J.T. Poston described it as “hard to fathom.”

Last fall, Korda teamed with Tony Finau at the mixed-team Grant Thornton Invitational, finishing T4. Finau came away impressed, in a way foreshadowing what was to come.

"In a sense, to me, I look up to Nelly," Finau said at the time. "Even though she’s younger than me, she’s an incredible golfer. She’s been the No. 1 player in the world in the women’s game, and she’s someone that I think quite frankly a lot of us can still even learn from, even on the men’s side."

After winning the Corales Puntacana Championship on Sunday for his eighth TOUR title, Billy Horschel threaded the runs of Korda and Scheffler.

“I had a three-week stretch where I finished second, first, first and I thought I was something special at that time, but what Nelly and Scottie are doing is unreal,” said Horschel.

“I can't imagine that. And over a period of time, not just five weeks in a row, they've done over six, seven, eight weeks. I mean, it's unreal golf. And to think about who they're playing against in today's generation of more talented players and doing what they're still doing, man, I'd say we're not going to see anything like that again, but I'm sure we will. You just have to stand up and applaud them because it's pretty special. You know, as a golf fan, I'm just lucky to be able to see that because at the end of the day, I'm a golf fan at heart.”

And fans have lately witnessed two generational superstars playing some of the best golf possible.

“I think we’ve all seen the golf swing; I wish I could see it more in person,” Scheffler said of Korda. “Obviously some great golf, some historic stuff, and hopefully she keeps it up.”
