From durable suitcases with hard double-sided polycarbonate shells to the packing cube set , there are a lot of useful products that will make a summer of travel that much better.

The Large Check-In Roller

Béis The Large Check-In Roller

Not to mention: There are a lot of nonluggage pieces to peep at Béis too. Think a gorgeous work tote that fits all of your office essentials but is stylish enough to bring out to dinner and a miniature weekender bag in a shade of orange that makes us think of only one thing: Summer. If you can't make it to the shopping pop-up, skip the checkout lines and order a few of our favorites online now. Hurry though! Some of the top sellers have already sold out, and there's no telling when they’ll be back in stock. Luckily for you, all of our favorite finds are still on the digital shelves.

We'll kick off our list of must-haves with the most popular and best-selling product: the classic check-in roller, which comes in nine colors. We chose black because it will never look dirty, but it's also available in a Barbie-inspired pink and lime green. Though it may look like your typical suitcase at first glance, it's not. Aside from the comfy ergonomic handle, it's built with a weight limit indicator that lets you know when your baggage is approaching the 50-pound limit. How cool is that?

At 16 inches tall and wide, the mini weekender really is the perfect size. It's big enough to fit a few outfits, but it's not so big that lugging it around will hurt your neck and back. Like the previous bag, this one comes with one super-special feature: There's a wide and easy-access opening so you can see everything you packed without having to take anything out.

Available in 10 colors, including this buttery beige, the carry-on roller is a must for anyone who travels—whether it's somewhat regularly or only a few times per year. It's small enough to squeeze into the trunk of a car or the overhead bin of a plane, but what it lacks in size it makes up in internal space. In other words, you can fit a lot in here. As for the special features, it's stain resistant, so no matter how much you put it through, it will never scuff. There's also a trolley handle with a cushioned, silicone grip, so you'll never get a blister or callus.

For shorter trips like overnights or the gym, you need a soft duffle bag. This one comes in three colors and includes a removable shoulder strap, key leash, trolley pass-through, and a wipeable interior.

For anyone who has struggled to find a work bag that's as cute as it is functional, you're welcome. Béis's work tote comes in five colors (and several patterns and solids). There are flat shoulder straps, a removable and adjustable poly shoulder strap, and a trolley pass-through with a zipper.

If you, like some of us, have a hard time fitting all your fits in your luggage, these packing cubes will change your life—seriously. This set comes with everything you need to become a professional packer, including three cubes, a zip pouch, and two shoe bags. Trust us, getting yourself ready for a trip has never been easier.

At 29 inches tall (not including the wheels), there's plenty of space in this hard-sided luggage to squeeze in all your top looks. And if not? This piece is forgiving with two inches of optional expansion, compression straps and flaps, and quite a few pockets.

Beis Travel Review | Weekender Bag, Work Tote & Hanging Cosmetics Case

Beis Travel Review of Weekender Mini, Work Tote and Hanging Cosmetics Case

Before we get started on this Beis travel product review, I have to be honest. I had initially written Beis off, convinced the hype attached to this line was tied to it being a celebrity-driven company (Beis’ founder is actress Shay Mitchell.) As we often see with these endeavors, I was certain the quality and functionality of these products would be, well, crap . I was proven wrong when I tried the Beis Work Tote . I was immediately impressed with the quality and the functionality, and suddenly I couldn’t wait to get my hands on other Beis products.

I’m so excited to share my Beis travel review of the pieces I’ve accumulated. Let’s go!

Beis Travel Mini Weekender Bag

Beis Weekender Mini

The Beis Travel Weekender Mini is, in my opinion, the perfect weekender. Considering the number of weekender bags I’ve bought and tried in my lifetime, that’s saying a lot. The size helps this bag live up to its name – it’s perfect for a quick weekend trip. Throw in your essentials and head out to an awesome Airbnb in Joshua Tree or for an overnight just about anywhere. I LOVE this pink one ! My favorite things about the Beis Travel Weekender Bag:

  • Detachable bottom: Great for shoes or dirty laundry at the end of your trip. Since this section is completely detachable, you can also remove it before your trip to make your weekender more compact.
  • Structured opening: The structured opening helps this bag keep its shape and makes it effortless to see what’s inside. No fishing through a dark mess with this bag.
  • Laptop sleeve: This bag features a separate laptop sleeve with multiple pockets for all of your tech and work needs.
  • Dual zip sleeve: Perfect to slide over luggage handles to use this bag as your carry-on for a longer trip.

Need something a bit bigger? Check out the roomier original Weekender Bag .

Hanging Cosmetics Case

Beis Hanging Cosmetics Case

I have always been notorious for using whatever free gift-with-purchase make-up bag was sitting under my sink when I traveled. Every time at my destination, I would be annoyed by how disorganized my toiletries were and how much space it would take up on in the hotel bathroom sink. Then the Beis Hanging Cosmetics Case changed my hotel bathroom game for life. My favorite things about the Beis Hanging Cosmetics Case:

  • Hook: It saves so much space in your hotel bathroom by hanging on the back of the door or on the shower rod.
  • Removable clear pouch: If you’re flying, this clear pouch is the perfect place for your 3 OZ liquids. It’s quick and easy to separate when going through TSA!
  • Spacious size: It’s a great size for all of the cosmetics and toiletries you might need on a trip – plus a few travel-size hotel toiletries you might need to snag.

Beis Work Tote

The Beis Work Tote was my first Beis purchase that made me fall in love with the brand. I originally bought it in black faux snake, but I loved it so much I had to have it in nude.

My favorite things about the Beis Work Tote:

  • The Mini Work Tote seems to be an amazing size as well!
  • The structure: Just like other Beis products, the structured cut of this bag helps you stay organized.
  • Detachable pouch: Perfect for your phone, credit card, and lipstick for a quick errand.
  • Cushioned laptop sleeve: To keep your tech secure, the cushioned laptop sleeve provides a layer of protection for your computer from any impact.
  • Travel ease and security: This bag has a top-zip for extra protection and a dual-zip sleeve on the back to slide onto your luggage handles for travel.

Other Beis products I’m eyeing…

  • Beis On The Go Essentials Case
  • Beis Garment Bag
  • Beis 29 inch Rolling Spinner Suitcase
  • Beis The Backpack
  • Beis 21 inch Rolling Spinner Suitcase (carry-on size)

Have you tried any of the Beis products? Let me know in the comments!

Love this review. It’s great to hear the bag has good travel security, too. It’s so important. Maybe I could interest you in reviewing a https://mahileather.com/ weekender bag? They’re perfect for taking on travels. Whilst our weekender bags are very spacious, they still conform to most airline cabin capacity restrictions.

The Strategy Behind Shay Mitchell’s Travel Brand Béis

Actress Shay Mitchell sits among two olive-coloured suitcases and weekender bag from her brand Béis.

Actress, entrepreneur and executive producer Shay Mitchell launched her lifestyle and travel brand Béis in October 2018 with the vision of catering to an on-the-go lifestyle by creating bags, luggage and travel accessories she could not find in the market. In just five years, the brand is nearing $200 million in profitable gross revenue by the end of 2023.

This summer, the brand hosted a tour of pop-ups, experimenting with physical retail and in-store creative marketing moments in three North American cities and will be doing a holiday pop-up in New York with Shopify.

“We have an exceptionally high return customer rate, far higher than what is typical in our category,” Béis president, Adeela Hussain Johnson, tells BoF. “As we look to the future, we will continue to engage with our current consumers in a way that builds loyalty and trust while investing meaningfully in brand building and awareness-driving initiatives. [...] Our objectives as an organisation are to maintain the momentum of our growth trajectory, but to do so responsibly and in a way that is both sustainable and scalable, long-term.”

Since its launch, Béis has built a significant direct-to-consumer e-commerce offering, with the majority of traffic to Béis’ website primarily driven by growth within paid search, paid social and affiliate marketing, supported by Mitchell’s 37 million-strong follower base. Béis works with retail partners — Nordstrom , Revolve , Bloomingdale’s and, most recently, Canada’s Indigo — to diversify their consumer reach.

“DTC will continue to be the lion’s share of our business, as we are a digitally native brand and we intend that to continue. However, we have learned through our pop-ups in the last two years that our consumer does love IRL experiences and interacting with our brand through the brick-and-mortar channel. So, we will continue to learn and expand that channel as it makes sense for different categories within our portfolio,” adds Hussain Johnson.

The pop-up tour is one strand of the brand’s exploration of expanded marketing arenas, alongside the likes of billboard advertising and major brand partnerships, such as its collaboration with Mattel and Barbie The Movie around the launch of the Greta Gerwig blockbuster. Béis is also working with innovative materials, exploring the likes of cactus leather in its Premium Collection, which launched on November 8. Product lines have also expanded to include lines for travelling parents and their children, as well as baby and pet bags.

“We are investing significantly in R&D and testing to understand how we can continue to improve and expand our portfolio with materials that allow us to achieve durable, long-lasting products,” says Hussain Johnson. “Though the majority of our business is in our classics, which are always around, we recognise that we do drop seasonal collections and not everyone needs 10 weekenders. So, we are in the process of exploring how we can offer consumers ways to give their bags and accessories a second life.”

Now, BoF sits down with the brand’s founder Shay Mitchell to learn more about her strategic vision for the future of the brand.

Béis founder Shay Mitchell in a Béis campaign for the brand's anniversary.

How do you respond to evolving consumer needs and expectations?

We have an analytics department that gathers all data for the brand. I also gather feedback from my friends, family and my assistant. She will sit in on design meetings and I will ask her: “Would you carry this?” It may seem small but we are a consumer feedback-driven brand, so in addition to hard data, I’m always collecting my own feedback from my immediate circle to better understand how they shop.

We’re still a small enough brand to be nimble. For example, when Covid-19 hit, we had a whole line-up of suitcases that were about to be rolled out, but we paused the drop and reassessed. We make bags for people on-the-go, so with the world drastically changing, we asked ourselves “what are people still going to be doing?” They’re going to be going to markets, to parks, beaches, to the grocery store, so we designed for that. We are not just designing for long-haul, plane travel — whether you’re going on a walk, to the gym, to the grocery store or to work, we have a product for you to make it easier.

It’s also about being able to pick up on cultural moments quickly and what makes us so good at this is our team, whose eyes and ears are always open. We can quickly react to trends or feedback that are relevant, in order stay fresh in the content and product we develop.

How do you test out new category and product ideas?

We create what I call “energy drops”, which is when we try something new and share a smaller run with our consumer. It’s a way to play with ideas and collect feedback and insight from the consumer as to what it is that they like about it, what we can improve upon and what should become a core offering. It’s a nice way to test the waters without having a full-on commitment because we’re not buying heavily into those drops.

We are also starting to do more collaborations for energy drops and those projects offer learnings, too. For example, when we dropped the Barbie The Movie collaboration, some people loved the colour and others loved the glossy finish. They said, “You should do this [finish] for beige and black.” I pocketed that feedback and thought, “Cool. Now I know.”

The first time we did a collab was with the model Elsa Hosk. That process was different because we were not just offering existing bags in new fabrications but designing new bags and prints for a Baby line. It was interesting to get her perspective on what she would design. We had hits and misses on that one, but we played around with print, we played around with the fabric and we created something that Béis had never done before.

Béis founder Shay Mitchell dressed in a pink suit dress and hat, holds a pink Béis wallet standing in front of a pink convertible car, in a campaign for the Béis and Mattel 'Barbie Pink' colourway collaboration in May 2023.

How has community feedback guided your design approach?

We have a two-way conversation with our audience. I will post from design meetings and have our community weigh in on colourways or patterns. We take consumer feedback to heart — if we are consistently getting the same feedback about a bag, we will implement changes. We test our bags through the design process and we continue to refine them even once they are on the market.

One of the things we have learnt is that there are people that want to pay a higher price point for a different kind of material, while others will say: “We love this bag. We just wish you could do a more basic, simpler version of it.” All of this feedback helps inform our approach. So, we have our core line, which we have had from the beginning. Then we came out with the Béis-ics, a more simplified design for a Gen-Z consumer at more of an entry price point.

We take consumer feedback to heart — if we are consistently getting the same feedback about a bag, we will implement changes.

Then, this November, we dropped our Premium collection, which offers existing core bag silhouettes in cactus leather fabrications, with elevated design elements. This collection is at a new price point for us. We wanted to design with a more sustainable fabric that looks and feels more premium. I’m curious to see how it is received.

This evolution of various categories at different price points came from consumer feedback. I love the feedback our consumers share. With the help of my team, when we drop a new product, we are keeping our eyes peeled for feedback — and this feedback loop helps us learn for next time. It’s a two-way street that we really value.

Béis founder Shay Mitchell standing in the lobby-style pop up store for Béis in Los Angeles.

How has the Béis brand and your vision for it evolved?

Béis started when I drew up my ideal travel bag on a cocktail napkin while on an airplane, with all the features I had mentally taken notes of over the years, like a key leash or a strap to attach onto your suitcase. With those ideals in mind, we started with our weekenders and our luggage.

Then, when I was pregnant, I needed a diaper bag, so we came out with our baby line. We also created a backpack with a rollout changing pad because sometimes, bathroom facilities are not equipped for parents to change their kids. My elder daughter then started needing her own bags for school, so we moved into the kids’ space — but we added features that add value to the parent, because I know the parent is going to end up carrying the bag.

So, in a lot of ways, we have been (selfishly) designing products for ourselves and our evolving families, but then we go into it with the perspective that those needs can be applied to the consumer who is also looking for functional, good-looking products to make their lives easier while on-the-go. So, we have grown by expanding into new categories that have grown as we have.

What role will a physical retail presence play in growing the brand?

We are majority direct-to-consumer and, until our first pop-up, we had only partnered with Revolve and had a very small section in Nordstrom, which was important for us because I wanted people to be able to touch and feel the product. However, with wholesale accounts, I’m not in control of that retail experience and that’s the part that has been missing for me.

I want our consumers to see how the products live in a room, because if you see it in a store, there’s no lifestyle there. The pop-ups are important because we can create an experience. They allow us to play around, to try something new, to see what works and what doesn’t. It’s not forever; it’s not a commitment.

One day, when we do go into brick and mortar, there will have been a lot of research into where we do it and how we do it. But for right now, I’m having so much fun just doing these timely hits. As a matter of fact, we are currently planning a pop-up with Shopify in New York at the end of November into early December.

What is next for Béis?

I want to be that go-to brand where consumers think, “That’s the place where I go to get what I need to make on-the-go life easier.” Just like how there are certain stores that, if I’m going camping, I know to hit up this specific place and they will have everything I need.

I’m creating bags and accessories to help whenever you leave the house. But I want to make that easier for you. Every single product is thought out. The sky has no limits.

This is a sponsored feature paid for by Béis as part of a BoF partnership.

Consumers and Influencers Check in to The BÉIS Hotel in L.A., Vancouver and Dallas

“After the pop-up last year, we did see a very large bump in our revenue in the L.A. area. Where we saw a lot of gain and traction was in brand awareness in the area, and that was evidenced by the traffic and the conversion that we saw come through our site during and after that time.”

—Elizabeth Money, SVP-Brand and Creative, BÉIS

BÉIS Hotel lobby signage

The BÉIS Hotel offered consumers the chance to interact with the brand’s products in a travel-themed setting.

For more than just packing travel essentials, luggage has become its own fashion statement, with the features and tech to match. The industry shift is driving brands like BÉIS, a d-to-c brand popular on social media, to create moments for fans to get their hands on its collections of suitcases, backpacks and totes they see in their feeds every day.

Following up on its ROI-generating The BÉIS Motel pop-up in The Grove in Los Angeles last year, BÉIS this year decided to elevate the experience with The BÉIS Hotel, a pop-up that traveled to three cities and offered photo ops, engagements and product showcases. The BÉIS Hotel tour touched down for several weeks in each market, kicking off in L.A. in July and then heading to Vancouver in August. It will wrap in Dallas this month on Sept. 28.

One of the goals for BÉIS, which was launched in 2018 by actress Shay Mitchell, was to boost brand awareness (who could miss the beige building-sized luggage façade on L.A.’s Abbot Kinney Boulevard?) and allow consumers to see and feel its core products in a travel-themed setting. In The BÉIS Hotel lobby, brand ambassadors welcomed attendees and showed them to a speakeasy-esque faux elevator with a mirrored wall that prompted selfies. From there, participants walked up to a wooden hotel door with a branded door hanger and key, leading into a modern, cream-colored and light wood-paneled suite.

Different areas of the hotel room modeled uses for purchasable BÉIS rollers, weekenders, duffle bags, work totes, backpacks, sport packs and accessories, with corresponding table-top signage listing product names, features, dimensions, reviews and available colors. Attendees could pick up a beige rotary phone on the nightstand to “give us a ring for a sweet surprise” and venture out to the balcony’s flower-accented lounge space for a little R&R.

Keeping with the theme, events at The BÉIS Hotel were called “Room Service” during the day and “Turndown Service” in the evening. The L.A. pop-up offered Personalization Wednesday with hand-painted monograms from Lefty’s Right Mind, Spa Day Saturday with chair massages and nail art, and a happy hour with tequila seltzer brand Onda.

BÉIS Hotel suite interior

Accessed through a faux elevator, the BÉIS suite displayed purchasable products alongside signage with product names, features, dimensions, reviews and available colors.

“I’d definitely say the elevator was probably people’s highlight,” says Elizabeth Money, svp-brand and creative at BÉIS. “The space was this beautiful, very clean aesthetic and also super cozy and comfortable. It was a nice place for people to land and hang out for a little bit. We were really thinking about the dwell time because we wanted people to stick around and feel like they entered a destination, like we just transported them somewhere else.”

The L.A. and Dallas pop-ups were similar in their design of The BÉIS Hotel, with the layouts adjusted to fit the different spaces and the incorporation of Easter eggs unique to each city. For instance, there was a backdrop of the L.A. or Dallas skyline on the balcony and a branded newspaper with articles tailored to the city. But the Vancouver activation called for a modified experience since it was based inside an actual hotel, the Fairmont Pacific Rim. Instead, it focused on an airline-inspired theme with BÉIS luggage stored in overhead bins, a branded beverage cart, airplane seats and plane window wall graphics.

“After the pop-up last year, we did see a very large bump in our revenue in the L.A. area,” Money says. “Where we saw a lot of gain and traction was in brand awareness in the area, and that was evidenced by the traffic and the conversion that we saw come through our site during and after that time. We did a lot of different activations around that, too, and our first billboards, as well.”

BÉIS Hotel patio area

Outside the BÉIS suite, participants could lounge in a balcony space themed to the location in L.A. and Dallas.

With L.A. being its biggest market, BÉIS looked at other large U.S. markets with potential for growth, identifying Dallas but also considering Miami, Atlanta and Chicago, which are areas for future activations. Internationally, Vancouver was a hot market for expansion, likely spurred by co-founder Mitchell’s Canadian background, Money says.

When looking for the right locations for the pop-ups within these cities, the BÉIS team wanted venues with ample space to allow for more inventory of products for purchase on-site. In 2022, the team was surprised by the number of attendees who wanted to buy and roll their new suitcases right out of the pop-up shop.

“We wanted to still keep this hospitality moment of feeling like you’re welcome into the space and not really feeling like you’re in a retail store—feeling like you are experiencing something rather than you’re just going somewhere and shopping,” Money says. “We were trying to see if the [pop-up] areas or demographics are purchasing one type of product over another. Like in Vancouver, we’ve seen a lot of heavy backpack sales in city areas, so we definitely had a better selection of our backpacks there.”

In Dallas, BÉIS offered a trade-in program, in which attendees could bring their old luggage and trade it in for a discounted BÉIS product. The brand would take care of properly disposing the turned-in luggage. Being mindful of Vancouver’s hotel location and the fact that most participants would be traveling and on the go, BÉIS luggage was on display and only available to purchase with a ship-to-home option, rather than pick up on-site.

From the promotional content to the placement of products within the branded hotel suite, Money says it was all part of a 360-degree thought process that made sure “everything was incredibly photographable” and capitalized on social sharing and trends among its audience.

“It’s always thinking of the ways that we can incorporate our branding and our product use cases into the actual activation. We want it to be literal, but we also want it to be experiential and relatable,” she says. “I don’t know that we ever want to go down the road of having like a true, true brick-and-mortar presence, but through this experiential marketing type of vibe, we can really show our personality in different aspects.” Agency: MKG.

The 13 best weekender bags for women in 2024, tested & reviewed.

Despite its name, the weekender bag is ideal for a variety of trips.

The Best Weekender Bags for Women

BÉIS The Weekender in gray/green.

LeSportsac Deluxe Large Weekender: Many travelers (our team included) love this bag. It's durable, offers several exterior and interior pockets, and folds down compactly when not in use.

Nomad Lane Bento Bag: This bag has exceptional organizational features (including a toiletry pouch and an electronics organizer), but it may be a little small for a weekender. If you want a personal item that fits under the plane seat, the Bento Bag is an excellent option for short trips or light packers.

Carl Friedrik Compact Weekender: Sophisticated yet understated, this nylon weekender bag with Italian leather trim is a classic travel bag. It is spacious and looks appropriate regardless of the setting. However, it does lack a luggage trolley sleeve, which makes it a bit limited in terms of carrying options.

Samsonite Virtuosa Weekender: This sleek and simple bag from the well-respected luggage brand is a solid choice, if slightly small for a weekend's worth of belongings. The Virtuosa Weekender has some convenient storage pockets and a luggage sleeve, but the strap can be a little uncomfortable when the bag is heavy.

How to Pack Light When You're Only Traveling With a Carry-On

By Karthika Gupta

Packing for a trip always feels like a dance between art and science—and attempting to pack light complicates things even further. As a travel journalist, I often find myself on the road several times a month—sometimes for weeks at a time navigating various modes of transportation. This means being self-sufficient with my luggage is key. I also don’t want to be concerned about lost luggage when I travel, so I opt to bring only a carry-on whenever I can. My mantra while packing for any trip, whether it's a domestic weekend getaway or a weeklong international adventure, is that every piece of gear has to be multi-functional to maximize space. Below, my tried-and-true tips for packing light with only a carry-on.

This article has been updated with new information since its original publish date.

Our best tips for packing light:

Choose the right luggage, don't skip the packing cubes.

  • Opt for multi-functional fabrics

Pick versatile pairs of shoes

  • Adjust your body care routine

Travel hacks are a game-changer

A key consideration for any trip is choosing the right luggage to fit all your essentials without weighing you down. If you're traveling with just a carry-on-sized bag, you want it to be lightweight yet roomy—expandable options are always helpful. My go-to is the Monos Carry-On Plus, a 7.8-pound hard-shell suitcase sized to fit in overhead bins. The wheels have a 360-spin, making it a breeze to maneuver in tight spaces, and the side handle makes it easy to lift into the overhead bin and in a rental car. The padded front compartment fits my 15-inch laptop, a scarf, and a book in there easily. The suitcase comes with an antimicrobial laundry bag and two shoe bags that further help with packing and organization.

Another smart carry-on option is the Cotopaxi Allpa Roller Bag. The hybrid look of a hardcover back and adjustable softcover front brings the right amount of support and expandability of a traditional carry-on suitcase. It only has two wheels but when I saw how easily the bag moved on different surfaces, I was hooked. Cotopaxi’s fun and vibrant colors also make these suitcases easily identifiable among a sea of like-looking bags at the airport.

Next up: choosing a functional personal item . I paired my suitcase with the Chelsea Backpack from Antler. As a professional photographer, I always travel with my gear and I find the Chelsea is spacious enough to pack my camera, an extra lens, and in-flight essentials: snacks, my Otterbox 3-in-1 MagSafe charging station that helped cut down on extra cords, and my insulated Camelbak water bottle . It even has a zipped, padded laptop area with a separate slip pocket for a tablet. The backpack’s trolley sleeve is a lifesaver, slipping onto my rolling suitcase and allowing me to keep one hand free. And I always pack my Patagonia Ultralight Black Hole tote as an extra bag (for souvenirs or as a daypack for a quick hike). It folds down into a small pouch, making it both packable and functional.

beis travel hotel

Anyone who struggles with optimizing space when traveling knows that packing cubes are the ultimate solution. Not only are they perfect for organization, but compression ones like these from Monos and Béis save space in your bag. I routinely use about three to five cubes and organize my essentials by category. The bigger cube is for bulky items like jeans, pants, and sweatshirts, the medium is for shirts, and the smaller one is for undergarments and socks. The clear-view window on the Monos packing cubes allows me to see what's inside at a glance, making it easier to get ready. I also carry an extra one to separate dirty laundry on my return trip home.

beis travel hotel

Opt for lightweight, multi-functional fabrics

I will admit that choosing the right clothes for a multi-week trip is the most challenging part of packing, especially when dealing with different climates. My Duer jeans are my favorite denim. With the right amount of stretch, softness, comfort, and a water-repellent fabric, I wear them on planes, around town, and even hiking. My top picks are these fleece-lined relaxed Girlfriend fit for flights, and the mid-rise performance slim straight for backup. Another new favorite is the Freeflex Roll-Up pants from Kühl. The roll-up feature quickly converts it into a capri, increasing the usability. Plus, they are quick-drying, moisture-managing, and water-resistant.

For daily wear, I pack a few classic, mix-and-match pieces from Prana in neutral colors. Foundation rib tanks and simple short-sleeve tees are versatile, comfortable, and perfect for layering. I recently discovered hemp fabric, a natural fiber that is breathable, antibacterial, and seems to get softer with every wash. Adding Jungmaven tees to my travel wardrobe was a no-brainer because it wicks moisture away from the skin keeping clothes odor free longer so you can get more wear from your tees. A few moisture-wicking UPF 50+ bras that double as sports bras, merino wool breathable natural briefs from Ibex , and Comrad compression socks complete my essentials.

As a runner from the Midwest, I can never pass up the opportunity to tackle trails wherever I go. My Hoka short-sleeved performance tee and multi-pocket jogger tights from Oiselle are ideal because of their quick-drying fabric, which means I don’t need sweatshirts to keep me warm while running outside.

Keeping up with the theme of packing multi-purpose clothing, I chose between two outerwear pieces depending on the season—the Stretchdown light vest from Mountain Hardwear or a Silent Down Jacket from Patagonia. The vest is a lightweight layering piece that packs down to a pouch for convenience. The jacket, which I wear on the plane (another tip: don't pack your bulkiest pieces; wear them in transit), is incredibly soft, warm enough for 30 to 40-degree Fahrenheit weather, thanks to the down insulation, and not too technical—the perfect outerwear for a nice dinner.

beis travel hotel

Deciding on what shoes to bring on any trip is always a bit tricky, but generally, you want to go classic and neutral. Because of space restrictions, I opted for a white walking shoe that would go with any outfit (worn on the plane) and packed my lightweight gym shoes as a backup. Clae’s white vegan leather sneakers have traveled with me across continents and continues to hold form even after hours of walking everywhere. For my running and training routines, I lean on my Agility Peak 5 running shoe from Merrell. It performs flawlessly on gravel and concrete and after getting caught unprepared in a sudden downpour one too many times, I always choose the Gore-Tex waterproof style. A cute pair of lightweight Tevas sandals that are also waterproof and breathable round out my footwear choices.

beis travel hotel

Don’t sacrifice your body care routine—just adjust it

After a lot of trial and error over years of extensive travel, I finally curated just the right selection of products for my Dopp kit . The key is to trim down your routine (and packing list) with multi-purpose products that still get the job done and leave you feeling refreshed. Everist plant-based waterless shower travel essentials are a game changer and the travel-size tins save a lot of space. I also recently switched to waterless moisturizers and lotion bars for travel after having to ditch many creams and bottles at security because of liquid restrictions. My go-tos are Glow Face Stone solid face moisturizer and Forest Sone lotion bar from Kate McLeod. And all this packs away in my carry-on-friendly Monos Metro toiletry case.

After traveling thousands of miles with just a carry-on, there are a few hacks I always rely on that make a huge difference to my overall outlook on traveling as lightly as possible. I always clip a few carabiners to my backpack or suitcase (if possible). In a pinch, these hold nicknacks like an extra jacket, a water bottle, or my sandals if I am running out of space. A buff is a must and an easy way to protect your face, neck, and head from the elements. It also acts as a neck warmer and mask on planes. And my Sea to Summit inflatable two-ounce camping pillow has been a lifesaver during many unscheduled airport overnights thanks to cancellations and delays—I never leave home without it.

On the Road With Malika Andrews, Who Has a Perfect Hotel Sleep Hack

beis travel hotel

By Matthew Roberson

Malika Andrews smiling

Few people on earth travel as often as professional athletes. With On the Road, the GQ Sports Travel Questionnaire , they’re weighing in on everything from room service to flying comfortably to their favorite chain restaurants.

To be a modern NBA reporter is to be intimately familiar with life on the road, which means not just the radiant sunshine of LA and Miami but also less glamorous locales like Milwaukee and Denver . Malika Andrews, one of the faces of ESPN’s NBA coverage, has gone everywhere from the pandemic bubble to post-championship champagne celebrations.

With so much back and forth across the country—sometimes at the drop of a hat—Andrews likes to be as prepared as possible. A self-described planner, she names Hotels.com as an essential travel resource for her on-the-go lifestyle. Once she’s actually checked in, her eyes go directly to the window, where she often employs one of the NBA’s trademark sleepytime moves.

I live in the ESPN NBA studios in Los Angeles. [laughing] I actually keep a pillow and blanket in a little corner nook by my desk in case I need to catch a 20-minute nap. I do spend most of my time in the greater LA area, and I try to see every team as they come through here. I’m only usually bopping around once-ish a month, and then it really ramps up in the postseason.

The only thing about that is questioning how I need to pack. I’m such a carry-on girl. I fold my socks and put them inside my shoes. I’m a professional packer. Lay out all the outfits. Lay out all the extra pairs of workout pants, just to encourage myself to work out, even though I usually don’t. I’m very much a planned packer, and then I play Tetris to fit everything in. My sister [ESPN reporter Kendra Andrews] is an over-packer. She has a whole suitcase just for shoes.

When I’m teetering on the edge of needing to check a bag if the series goes long enough, that’s when sometimes I feel a little bit uneasy. Other than that, I find it exciting! You’re going to pretty cool cities, and going to wherever the story is has always been exciting for me. This is what I was hoping my life would look like. When you’re hoping and dreaming about something for so long and then you finally get it, you have to remind yourself to be grateful, even in the midst of the next red eye you’re taking.

Andrews interviewing LeBron James after the Lakers won the In-Season Tournament

Yes, 99.9% of the time. The only time I don’t is when it’s delayed or I’m delayed, as in full-speed running for a plane. I still find a bit of thrill in bouncing around and going to different cities. I lived in Milwaukee and covered the Bucks, so it’s always fun to go back there and see the people I started in this industry with. My best friend lives in New York City. My parents live in Northern California. I have friends in Texas . I get to maintain all of these friendships with people that I maybe wouldn’t get to see as often [in a different line of work]. In a world where we’re texting all the time, I actually get to have dinner with these people. There’s something special about that.

I was counting this the other day! There’s still a couple I have not been to, but I think I’m up to 26. I haven’t been to the Magic’s arena, but I’ve been to the city of Orlando because I lived in the bubble for 107 days. Four months, 107 days. We counted every single one of those days and took a Wilt photo with a piece of paper that said 107.

One time I was in Milwaukee and got a call that I needed to be in Toronto the next day. I wasn’t planning to go there, so my passport was at home in Chicago. I had to drive two hours after the game back to Chicago—you’re done writing around midnight—and got the passport. The flight was at 5 or 5:30, really early. I got to the airport, running through O’Hare. I was going to make it! I was through the line and the TSA agent was like, “This is the wrong airport.” I needed to be at Midway. So, I missed that flight.

The sinking feeling in my stomach…I was so upset with myself. I put in all the effort, was going to make it, and O’Hare is farther away!

I like going to San Francisco because it’s home. But my favorites are New York—I love Madison Square Garden . I really love the food scene in Toronto. The theme for me is going back home. It’s funny, some of my colleagues will be like, Ugh, we’re going back to Milwaukee. I kinda like it there! That’s where I started! Oh, we have to go to Portland. I kinda like it! I went to college there.

Uhh, yeah. Giannis [Antetokounmpo] was in LA a few months ago and I went to see him at shootaround. We were joking around about not seeing each other much anymore. I was like, “No, I see you when you come to LA!” He was like, “No, no. You have to come to Milwaukee, and it has to be the middle of January. That’s how I’ll know you still care about your roots.”

I’m surprised more people don’t say Miami. For some people, that’s a thing. I also always enjoy a quick New Orleans trip. Two days in New Orleans is the perfect amount of New Orleans. You get a beignet, you get some étouffée, charbroiled oysters are my favorite. Two days there is perfect.

Right now, we’re in the process of planning a safari in Zambia. I’m really, really excited about that. It’s a plan-16-months-ahead type of process. It’s not a last-minute getaway.

I try to go somewhere different every summer, because we only get those couple of weeks to try and span the globe. However, my aunt and uncle live in London and have a house in Spain. Every summer growing up, that’s where we would go, about an hour outside of Santiago.

I find my place. I stay in the same place. When I was living in Chicago and going up to Milwaukee all the time, I stayed 72 nights at the Milwaukee Marriott. I knew the staff’s names and they knew my name. It was a fun, familial thing we had going on. It was my little home away from home.

After we go to Africa, Thailand is very, very high for me. Thailand and Singapore. I’m really interested in traveling a little more around Asia. My grandfather is well-traveled in that area and would always come back with these wonderful stories. I’ve only ever been to the part of Turkey that crosses over into Asia. I’ve never been anywhere else in Asia. The culture, the food, I travel based on where I want to eat! So, Japan is also high on the list because my favorite food is sushi.

When I close the blinds, do they actually close all the way, or is there a gap? If there’s a gap, I go to the closet and get the hangers, and use the clips to make sure the gap closes. If you’re covering the NBA, you know the pregame nap is essential . Sometimes your sleep is kind of funky. You’re up late, or you’re up early for shows. You want to catch that 20 or 30-minute nap in the middle of the day. If there’s a gap in the curtains, we have the hack—but when I don’t have to employ the hack, that’s a good hotel. It’s also the first thing I tend to notice.

Miles McBride Has Been Unstoppable Since Attending the Dune: Part Two Premiere

It’s an NBA thing. In fact, when Hotels.com asked me what my hack was, they said [Lakers’ guard] Austin Reaves said the same thing. We didn’t talk about it! But it’s the secret in the NBA that’s spread everywhere.

I try to find a cool restaurant, but I do love a room service burger. A room service burger, medium, is a safe and solid choice. Shrimp cocktail can be a little more hit-or-miss. I’m on the burger side of life.

Water pressure is a good thing, my fellow curly girls know. I bring my own shampoo, conditioner, and six products that have to go in after that. I’m big on pillows. I like a nice, plump pillow. That is also important.

I do use a neck pillow on flights. There’s a closet in my house where I have nine or 10 neck pillows stacked up on a shelf because I’ve forgotten them before and they’re so essential! I will head to Hudson News and make sure that I purchase another one.

I do find myself struggling to remember. That’s why I actually keep the key card in the sleeve with the number written on it. Always ask for two key cards. If I’m just staying there for one night, there’s no chance I remember. If I’m staying there for a week, by the end of the week I can usually remember. For some reason, I’m also always turning the wrong way [in hotel hallways]. I’m the person going in a circle.

I am a Shake Shack girlie. At JFK, I know exactly where the Shake Shack is. Delta Terminal, I’m headed straight there. The dilemma is always when to open the Shake Shack, because you don’t want to be that person eating food on a plane that you know has a fragrance. But this is just a burger, fries, milkshake fragrance. No fish.

The trains and stations of the Moscow Metro

2 Comments · Posted by Alex Smirnov in Cities , Travel , Video

The Moscow Metro is the third most intensive subway system in the world after Tokyo and Seoul subways. The first line was opened on May 15, 1935. Since 1955, the metro has the name of V.I. Lenin.

The system consists of 12 lines with a total length of 305.7 km. Forty four stations are recognized cultural heritage. The largest passenger traffic is in rush hours from 8:00 to 9:00 and from 18:00 to 19:00.

Cellular communication is available on most of the stations of the Moscow Metro. In March 2012, a free Wi-Fi appeared in the Circle Line train. The Moscow Metro is open to passengers from 5:20 to 01:00. The average interval between trains is 2.5 minutes.

The fare is paid by using contactless tickets and contactless smart cards, the passes to the stations are controlled by automatic turnstiles. Ticket offices and ticket vending machines can be found in station vestibules.

Fjords, Pharaohs or Koalas? Time to Plan for Your Next Eclipse.

If you can’t get enough of totality, or missed out this time, you’ll have three more chances in the next four years in destinations like Iceland, Spain, Egypt and Australia.

  • Share full article

A small, black disk surrounded by a bright, white halo suspended in a mostly dark sky over the still waters of a lake in which dim, golden light from the horizon is reflecting. There are dark hills and mountains beyond the lake.

By Danielle Dowling

Are you still a little giddy from the magical moments of totality during Monday’s solar eclipse? Or did clouds swoop in to block your view? Maybe you just couldn’t make it to the path of totality this time. No matter what, the question now is “ Where and when will it happen again?”

“People who have never seen it before, the first words out of their mouth after the totality ends is ‘I’ve got to see another one, this is incredible, this is unbelievable.’ That is when you become addicted to these things and end up traveling no matter where the next one is,” said Joseph Rao, an eclipse chaser and guest lecturer at the Hayden Planetarium.

So, if like Mr. Rao, you’ve developed a raging case of umbraphilia — the love of eclipses — you’ll have three chances over the next four years to see the moon blot out the sun. The first, on Aug. 12, 2026, will start above Greenland, then strafe the west coast of Iceland and move along the Atlantic Ocean and over Spain. Almost a year later, on Aug. 2, 2027, another will skirt the Mediterranean coast of North Africa then cross Egypt and part of the Arabian Peninsula. The third, on July 22, 2028, will cut across Australia and the southern tip of New Zealand.

Future Eclipses

Eclipse chasers will have several more chances this decade to view a total solar eclipse .

beis travel hotel

Last week, as Victoria Sahami , the owner of Sirius Travel , was preparing to guide a group of tourists in Mazatlán, Mexico, for Monday’s big event, she was also planning for these other upcoming eclipses. Ms. Sahami joined the ranks of the eclipse-obsessed when she witnessed one in Venezuela in the 1990s. “Like many people, I was hooked. There was no going back,” she said.

Total solar eclipses happen fairly regularly — about every one to two years — in locations scattered around the world. “That’s the great thing about them: You wind up in places that you don’t normally go,” Ms. Sahami said.

A major spoiler is weather, which will be a big variable in the 2026 eclipse — one Greenland, Iceland and Spain will see.

“Iceland normally has a lot of cloud during that time of year,” said Paul Maley , who runs Ring of Fire Expeditions . “The data shows Spain to have the higher good-weather prospects of all three. However, the sun is low in the sky and the eclipse ends as the sun hits the horizon at sunset.”

Because of Iceland’s mercurial meteorology, Ring of Fire Expeditions is going all in on Spain, with a 10-day excursion on the mainland. Sirius Travel is offering not only a five-day trip to Majorca but also an eight-day tour around Iceland. It will be based in Reykjavik, and the itinerary will remain flexible on the day of the eclipse so the tour can easily pivot toward the location with the least cloud cover. Ms. Sahami recommends the trip for those who already have a few eclipses under their belt and would be happy just to take in the sights of Iceland if the weather doesn’t cooperate.

The 2027 eclipse, on the other hand, promises to be truly stellar: Luxor, Egypt — the site of numerous ancient temples as well as the Valleys of the Kings and Queens — sits right in the middle of the path of totality and will be bathed in darkness for a full 6 minutes 23 seconds. Weather-wise, it is what Ms. Sahami called “a slam dunk.” “You know you’re going to see it. You know that you’re not going to get any clouds,” she said.

But for all its potential, those considering Egypt should be aware that the State Department has a Level 3 “Reconsider Travel” warning for the country because of the risk of terrorism.

The 2028 eclipse will darken the skies over Sydney, Australia, for 3 minutes 49 seconds. It will be the first time the city has experienced a total solar eclipse since 1857. Ms. Sahami has her eyes on a trip based out of there, while Mr. Maley has chartered a cruise ship off the northwest coast of Australia. It will be winter there, he said, but that isn’t likely to mean bad eclipse-viewing weather.

If you want to see any (or all) of these eclipses, you should get started on planning and booking now, particularly if you want to sign up for a trip organized by a tour company. One of Sirius Travel’s excursions to Luxor is already full.

Scrutinize refund policies and look into insuring your trip. Several companies will fully refund your deposit if you cancel a year in advance. A lot can happen, Ms. Sahami said, “but if you think you’re going to go, why not?”

The maverick hotelier behind dar ahlam doubles down on luxe regenerative travel.

The new lodge in Peru

The way people usually travel is all wrong, says visionary hotelier Thierry Teyssier. And for more than two decades, he’s been showing them how to do it better. His latest venture, 700,000 Heures Impact, is spreading to a new continent—and proving that regenerative travel doesn’t have to be lectures and compromises but can instead be real encounters and comforts.

Teyssier opened the multi-award-winning Dar Ahlam hotel in the Moroccan desert near Ouarzazate 22 years ago—long before anyone was telling tourists to “travel deeper,” before buzzwords like “transformative” and “regenerative” entered the lexicon. He was ahead of his time, opening a hotel so far from tourist centers and doing away with “standard” features like televisions.

“People need to go to remote places,” he says, “You will enjoy Marrakech. But you won’t learn anything about Morocco.”

He followed Dar Ahlam with the Memory Road, a discreetly luxurious nomadic journey in the footsteps of the “free men” who traversed southern Morocco. That expanded into 700,000 Heures—“hours” in English, the length of an average human lifespan—a series of pop-up hotels and highly curated small group trips that he led himself.

Since then, he’s grown more committed to regenerative travel—the idea that “hospitality brings life into a place”—and set about creating lasting impacts rather than dependencies on traditional tourism jobs. To that end, he partnered with Diane Binder, the founder of Regenopolis , an initiative that supports local sustainability efforts.

His 700,000 Heures became 700,000 Heures Impact, and last week they announced that their first permanent outpost, in the ancient Moroccan village of Tizkmoudine, would soon be joined by a microlodge in the Peruvian Amazon . The intimate properties likes at the intersection of the rain forest and the cloud forest, giving it access to diverse ecosystems.

How to watch the nba play in games as the postseason begins tuesday, how the okc thunder earned the no 1 seed in western conference.

It’s a hush-hush experience, capped at just 50 guests per season. They get access only after they become members of a sort of club by donating Teyssier’s nonprofit, which funds regenerative projects around his destinations.

A waterfall picnic in Peru

Here are highlights from an edited interview in which he explains his vision.

Why are you doing this?

During the last six years, I opened pop-ups in Cambodia, Brazil, Japan, Italy, France and Morocco. Every time, it was also a project to work with communities. And I wanted to prove that hospitality is not a question of walls or a roof. It's a feeling, a way to welcome you.

I wanted to create something different. Instead of spending energy to convince new guests to come to my main hotels, I had clients who wanted to discover the world. And I said, Well, maybe I could create a club of all these people and we could travel together.

It was a huge success. Everything we did around the world was fantastic. But if I am honest, something was missing. When you want to support a community, six months, it's nothing. And maybe if you stop too quickly, it'll become worse than if you didn't come at all. So I decided to change my vision, and I met Diane Binder. We worked together for a few months and created this concept to support communities on their own path of development.

Traditional Peruvian foodstuffs

What’s in it for the traveler?

The traveler has exactly what we’ve been doing in all our places. Dar Ahlam is not a hotel; it's a house with so many experiences. My point is to say we are 1.5 billion tourists traveling every year around the world. And we travel on less than 5% of the planet. First of all, the tourism industry destroyed everything everywhere. But if you want to discover the real soul of a place, you need to go to a remote place. I believe in microhospitality, which means very few bedrooms, and I believe in exclusivity.

So where you are, there are no other guests and you don’t feel like a tourist. You’re part of a community, and you'll have all their day-to-day moments. Usually in a resort you can have a traditional bread ceremony, for example, and you can see a woman making bread, but she's paid for it and it's just for tourists. In this village, you will cross the path of women going to the common oven to cook the bread for the village. You will enjoy everything, but it'll be with a real life.

I remember when I was a young backpacker. I was connected naturally with people but I was sleeping on the ground. Now I would prefer to have a comfortable bed. But we could cross both so you can have a comfortable bed. Even if there’s no electricity or water, you can have a hot shower from solar panels, but it'll be just surrounded by candles. And you will have a connection with the community.

A paper-making workshop in Peru

Why did you choose Peru?

Peru chose me. The lodge already existed and they wanted to do it differently. They wanted to go deeper in regeneration and deeper in hospitality. When we went there, we saw that there was a lot to do, so we proposed to work with them to bring their projects to life. After three years, we’ll cross our fingers, but it should be enough time to leave them independently running everything.

Tell me about the membership thing.

I like the idea of everyone being a member. It's just to make a donation, and there’s no minimum requested. It can be 50 euros. My point is just to say, Before asking for something—because usually tourists are kind of predatory and take things—let's start by giving something.

I’m convinced that hospitality made a huge mistake by telling everyone that it was about service. I don't agree. Service means, Okay, because you paid for it, you can ask for anything. That's not correct. You have to respect the people you are going to meet.

I definitely prefer to talk about empowerment and a relationship between two human beings. I mean, if you come to my place, I think I will change your mind and you will go back home with very special memories. If you tell a story to someone, that’s an exchange. It's not about service and “I order something so I want to have it.” No. Even if you’re in a three-star Michelin restaurant, which is the most amazing place, if you order a Coca-Cola, I shouldn't have to say yes.

At least I say no. In my place, I have conviction, I have a vision, I have some values, and you come to discover my world.

Set amid olive trees and pockets of peace, the JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa is one of the best resorts in Venice, as voted by T+L readers. Here’s what it’s like to visit.

Venice is one of the most visually impactful cities in Europe. Even if you’ve never visited in person, you’ll recognize the winding canals, gondolas, and photogenic bridges that have been part of its culture and identity for centuries. Given the history and romance surrounding Venezia , it’s one of the more popular places to visit in Italy — with nearly 4 million international travelers making their way to the collection of islands in 2022 alone, ultimately leading to the introduction of sustainability and over-tourism measures (see: a day-trip fee and a limit on tour group sizes ) to protect the ancient city.

On a recent trip to the City of Water, one of its many nicknames, I decided to forgo the crowds of the main island and stay on the quieter Isola Delle Rose. A private island just a short 20-minute boat ride from Piazza San Marco, it’s home to JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa , which Travel & Leisure readers voted one of the city’s best hotels in the 2023 World’s Best Awards .

The location is certainly a key aspect of the property’s appeal, providing guests with a tranquil retreat from the most congested parts of Venice via a complimentary shuttle service. “We want [guests] to feel at home, where they can relax, unwind, and have world-class amenities at their fingertips,” says general manager Cristiano Cabutti. Those amenities include several restaurants, a rooftop bar, swimming pools, a spa, a rose garden, and a 100-tree olive grove, which guests can stroll at their leisure. Together, these features give the resort, brought to life by the Italian architect and designer Matteo Thun, a steady heartbeat and a holistic approach to hospitality.

While the five-star, 266-room and suite hotel isn’t for every type of traveler — I’d suggest a smaller boutique property for solo travelers or those searching for a more lively or immersive experience — its kid-friendly amenities, waterfront spa, and proximity to Venice’s attractions make it an excellent option for families, or those visitors who may feel intimidated by crowds in the San Marco area. Travelers should note, though, that the resort is only open from March through November each year.

  • A complimentary water taxi takes guests to and from the resort and Piazza San Marco.
  • Rooms and suites are spread out between the main building, “The JW,” and four “JW Retreats,” one of which is the resort’s two-bedroom private villa.
  • The fitness room is well-designed and well-appointed — weight machines, treadmills, free weights, etc.
  • Overlooking the lagoon, JW Venice Spa boasts an indoor-outdoor pool, bio-sauna, and steam room.
  • The innovative plates and elevated atmosphere at Agli Amici Dopolavoro, a dining concept led by Chef Emanuele Scarello, should be enjoyed at least once during your stay.

Accommodation options are vast and varied at JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa, but all 266 rooms and suites have the same bright, modern decor with natural tones, accented by pops of light blue and pink to fit within the resort’s color scheme. Guests are welcome to book The JW rooms in the main building, but the JW Retreats are often more appealing, especially if you’re searching for relaxation. “We created a place where guests have access to more privacy, space, nature, and a home-from-home feeling,” says Cabutti, who notes that many of these more residential-style accommodations have gardens and private plunge pools. The star of the show, though, is Villa Rose, a two-bedroom standalone structure with a private pool and room enough for seven guests.

As a traveler who makes it a point to dive into the local culinary “must-haves,” I was grateful to see the hotel’s eateries covered all the bases. I headed to the grab-and-go Dispensa Delicatessen on the morning of my arrival for a much-needed espresso. Then I went up to Sagra Rooftop Restaurant, where fresh pasta and seafood entrees populate the menu. The buffet breakfast at Cucina is particularly memorable, with an omelet station, bread, homemade butter, meats, cheeses, and pastries up for the taking. On my first night, I opted for pizza at the Saporè pop-up, but my final night on the island was reserved for Agli Amici Dopolavoro — a relatively new experience at JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa.

Chef Emanuele Scarello, whose Agli Amici in Godia has earned two Michelin stars, will join Agli Amici Dopolavoro for the 2024 season. Expect local ingredients and produce — some from the neighboring vegetable garden — transformed into the kind of tasting menu that encourages the savoring of every bite. The cocktail program is equally impressive and forward-thinking; if your server recommends a drink topped with olive oil made on-site, it’s in your taste buds’ best interest to accept the suggestion.

Activities and Amenities

“There's something for everyone,” says Cabutti, referencing the various activities and amenities guests can take part in while staying on the property. Along with a spa, two pools (a rooftop pool and a family pool), and a fitness center, the resort ensures guests can build out their trips with walks through the rose garden and the olive grove, morning runs on the jogging path, cooking classes at the on-site Sapori Cooking Academy, or a variety of tours the concierge team is happy to organize upon request.

Located on the lagoon's edge and away from the busier parts of the resort, JW Venice Spa is one of the property’s top highlights. Before or after a massage or facial in one of the eight treatment rooms, guests can take a dip in the indoor-outdoor vitality pool, read a book on the chaise lounge chairs, or spend some time in the steam room or sauna. After researching the benefits of Finnish sauna culture for another T+L story , I was pleasantly surprised and excited to test one out for myself; battling a relatively strong case of jet lag, I found it the perfect antidote to my sleep deprivation and overall travel fatigue.

Some resorts may see younger guests as an afterthought, but the Kids Club at JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa puts their experiences at the forefront. The service is offered from 10:15 a.m. until 6:15 p.m. every day, and the participants are kept busy with both fun and educational programming, including volleyball games, badminton matches, and Venetian mask making. A family pool, water play fountain, playground, and classes at the Sapori Cooking Academy can also help fill smaller travelers’ itineraries.

Accessibility and Sustainability

JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa has various accessibility features throughout the property. Service animals are welcome, and there are accessible entrances to the main building, pool, spa, restaurants, and guest rooms. Travelers can also select mobility-accessible rooms, rooms with self-closing doors, adjustable vanities, bathtub seats, and handrails.

Sustainability is another focus point for the resort. “All of our partnerships have sustainability at the core of our ethos. This is evident across our culinary offerings — producing our own unique olive oil, growing our own produce in vegetable gardens which source our restaurants — and even our spa, which uses BAKEL treatments, a local clean beauty brand,” says Cabutti. The resort was also awarded the Green Key Certificate by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).

Isola Delle Rose is a 40-acre artificial island, one that was home to a hospital in the early 20th century. In 2010, Marriott International began transforming the abandoned island into the resort area it’s known as today. The hotel’s water taxi is the easiest way to get to and from the island, but private boat transfers can also be arranged. My flight departing from Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) was on the earlier side, so the latter option made the most sense — and it only took about an hour from door to door.
