This concert was great!!My daughter and I had a great time singing and watching all them on stage. The two things that were the most memorable the first one was when Chris Young performed Drowning in memory of Kane Brown's drummer that passed away and he asked us all to get out our phones. Seeing everyones phone lit up was amazing. The second thing was at the end when we got him to sing the song You! The concert was definitely worth it and I would go again.

Chris Young Announces Famous Friends Tour With Mitchell Tenpenny

Chris Young has shared his fall tour plans. Just days before he delivers his new Famous Friends album, the singer has announced the Famous Friends Tour.

Mitchell Tenpenny and Callista Clark will open 12 of the 13 announced shows, with Matt Stell joining them for a stop in Texas on Oct. 23. Payton Smith will open the tour's final stop, in Connecticut on Dec. 5.

The Famous Friends Tour focuses on American amphitheaters and arenas that are far inland from the East and West Coasts. Shows in Texas dominate (there's four of them), but stops in South Dakota, Iowa, Arkansas and Wisconsin help round out a slate of dates that doesn't stray far from the Mississippi River. The full list of stops is below.

The song " Famous Friends " is Young's latest No. 1, a duet with Kane Brown . The Famous Friends album also features a collaboration with Lauren Alaina called "Town Ain't Big Enough," and another with Tenpenny called "At the End of the Bar."

In July, Young performed a free concert for friends in Nashville, a portion of which was recorded for the music video for "At the End of the Bar." That video will be revealed on Friday (Aug. 6), the same day Famous Friends arrives in full.

Chris Young will promote his new single “Raised on Country” with a tour of the same name. The Tennessee native announced the first leg of dates, which begins May 16th in Alpharetta, Georgia. Chris Janson will appear as direct support, with Jimmie Allen, LoCash and Dylan Scott on select shows.

Young released “Raised on Country,” his first new music since last year’s “Hangin’ On,” earlier last month. Co-written with Corey Crowder and Cary Barlowe, the tough-sounding track name-checks Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Joe Diffie and George Strait, and finds Young praising his “honky-tonk attitude.”

In an interview with the Tennessean , the vocalist said his upcoming tour will feature all-new production. “I haven’t done a complete overhaul in two years,” he said. “We went from the ground up and revamped everything. It’s a completely new tour.”

Capturing Chris Young’s Live Sound On Tour

Chris Young is hitting the road hard in advance of his next album, with Erik Rogers tackling FOH engineer duties for the country star.

By Clive Young ⋅

Country star Chris Young kicked off the year with a sold-out run that included the 10,000-seat Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. PHOTO: Paris Visone

Nashville, TN (March 20, 2023)— Chris Young has never been one to sit still; since bursting onto the charts in 2006, the singer/songwriter has amassed a truckload of number-one Country singles and a fervid following that catches him every time he goes on tour. In January this year, the Grand Ole Opry member dropped two new singles, “Looking For You” and “All Dogs Go To Heaven,” to tease his upcoming ninth album, and to underline their release, he headed out on the road for four shows as well—a preamble to a big year ahead that will include a string of spring dates, festivals over the summer and then a full-on arena tour in the fall.

The concerts also served as an opportunity to shake things up a little bit. While the country star and his band still knocked out the hits, they also road-tested a new setlist, the new songs—and a new house engineer, too, with Erik Rogers taking over the FOH mix position. While Rogers spent the last few years mixing heavy acts like Godsmack, Avatar, Breaking Benjamin and Falling in Reverse, he welcomed the chance to dive into country again: “I mixed a country artist, Dustin Lynch, for quite a while, and back in 2017, one of the acts we opened for was Chris Young. The tour manager, Bill Cracknell, remembered me; we had a phone call a few weeks ago and here I am.”

The short Winter run of sold-out casino arenas gave everyone on and off-stage time to work together and ensure everything was on-target before the bigger treks later in the year. “The band has been together for a long time, but it’s a predominantly new crew,” Rogers explained. “Everybody knows what they’re doing, but now we have to do it together and present it to a roomful of strangers every night as if we’ve been doing it together for 20 years! We did a week of rehearsals in Nashville, had four shows to dial it in and we’re already a well-oiled machine.”

The shows weren’t a warm-up, however—they ran red hot from the start, with both the artist and audiences leaning into it. “Even the new songs that were just released, the audience already knows every word,” Rogers marveled, “and then you have the big hits where not only do they know every word, but they scream them! It’s cool to have an audience that engaged.”

While some mixers might pound the volume to get the mix over the crowd, Rogers prefers to keep the SPLs civil. “I let the fans get it out of their system,” he chuckled. “Our show stays right around 100 dBA averaged over 90 minutes. Of course, there are louder and quieter spots, and they contribute to that—I measured the audience the other day at 106!”

Hitting the road with Chris Young, FOH engineer Erik Rogers has been mixing on a Yamaha Rivage PM10 console for the first time. PHOTO: Paris Visone

Both the house and monitor positions are centered around Yamaha Rivage PM10 consoles, provided by Young’s longtime audio company of choice, Sound Image Nashville . Rogers and John Weaver—Young’s monitor engineer since March, 2020—each get 56 inputs coming from the stage; while the two PM10s are independent systems, they’re also networked together with one taking the other’s outputs, and all talkback and chat loops run through fiber only.

Joining the Chris Young camp marks the first time Rogers has worked with a Rivage desk, barring one night filling in on a Bush tour five years ago. “While there’s a learning curve, that’s the case with any console,” he pointed out. “My experience so far is that it sounds great, operates well, and once you wrap your head around how you patch, assign DSP for plug-ins and things like that, it’s just like any other desk, except that it sounds really, really good. I know colleagues that take the Rivage out with Shinedown, Luke Bryan and Garth Brooks, and they all swear by these desks; after using it for four shows, I can see why.

“One thing I’ve learned about the Yamaha is to trust the desk,” Rogers added. “I tried to use some outboard plug-ins, and they don’t sound as good. To me, time-aligning everything to go out of the console and back in wasn’t worth the work to make it sound right, because everything on the desk—the Rupert Neve Designs SILK processing, the Portico plug-ins and the other Yamaha features in there? You can’t beat ’em. They sound really good, so I’m just using the desk.”

That said, there were a handful of Waves plug-ins used for mix buss processing, hosted externally on a Mac Studio running Audioström Live Professor software and Audinate’s Dante Virtual Soundcard. “The cool thing about Live Professor is that it can run any plug-in native without a server,” he explained, “so you can have Sonnox, Brainworx, Waves, all of these multiple manufacturers’ plug-ins on the same platform.”

Cover Story: Kenny Chesney—Taking Here and Now to Another Level

With the crew changing but the band staying the same, the miking for the seven musicians onstage and their guitars’ ISO cabinets has remained the same as well. “Chris owns all of his mics, and it’s a smorgasbord—Beyerdynamic, Telefunken, Sennheiser; there’s a little something off the buffet for everybody up there right now,” said Rogers. “I’ve started working on mic placement and doing some fine-tuning, but I’m keeping in mind that these guys are very happy with their in-ear mixes. Any changes have to be done in concert with John, our monitor engineer, because things that I might move for nuance at front-of-house could cause drastic changes for in-ears and make life very difficult for the people onstage.”

In the past, the band’s monitor mixes were handled with a mix of sidefills and JH Audio JH11 in-ear monitors, but that’s changing for 2023, said Weaver: “Chris Young is moving from using sidefills and only one in-ear monitor, to using both in-ears all through the show, with no sidefills in sight. The Rivage PM10’s EQ and the Portico 5043 compressor with the dynamic EQ really helped with getting the clarity we needed in their in-ears to achieve this massive change.”

While the fall tour will carry full production, the quick casino arena run picked up local stacks and racks, so audiences were treated to line arrays from L-Acoustics, Meyer Sound, RCF and Electro-Voice. Regardless of the P.A., at every stop, fans heard Young and his band freshen up his setlist staples while also adding some new soon-to-be favorites, resulting in concerts that kept things feeling new but also familiar. With that in mind, Rogers kept the mixes true to what was coming off the stage—not replicating the record, but not heading into the great unknown either.

“In conversation with the artist and management, they wanted something that felt live and raw,” said Rogers, “but when you’re mixing an artist that’s got dozens of plaques on their wall for massive hits, you’ve got to keep the tonality of the song relatively close to the original intent, so that all these hits sound like what people have been hearing for 17 years. When you have a fan base that loyal, you don’t want to suddenly change everything. There are elements and melodies that are crucial, and we pay attention to those things. But then there’s also the big closer, ‘Aw Naw,’ which starts off as a country song and ends up with a big rock’n’roll jam for the end of the night. That’s nowhere on the record—that’s the sound of a band having a lot of fun!”

Why You Have to Dress Up Like Batman to Get Noticed at a Chris Young Concert

The singer reveals the ups and downs of life on the road to PEOPLE

A bunch of No. 1 hits and loads of adoring fans turning out to see you on stage … sounds like a totally glamorous life, right? Not so fast, says Chris Young .

We caught up with the “Lonely Eyes” singer on tour recently and asked him all about life on the road. As it turns out, his life isn’t always as exciting as you might think it is (okay, it’s still pretty great!). Read on to hear the truth about what happens on tour buses and more:

My tour ritual is I always pray before I go on stage. This is paraphrasing, but we pretty much just say, ‘Don’t let us mess up!’ It’s actually more like, ‘Dear Lord, please don’t let me suck.’

Favorite tour food “Steak and potatoes! I eat like three hours before I go on stage; I never eat right before I go on.”

The least glamorous thing about touring is “What we look like from day to day. We’re all walking around in like free swag T-shirts we got from somewhere and eating potato salad out of a Styrofoam container on buses. It’s not very glamorous at all.”

The coolest thing about my tour bus is “The shower! And it’s big enough for me to put my elbows up and turn around in and that’s saying something – I’m a large dude.”

My favorite thing about touring (besides performing) is “Seeing the country. We stopped one day and went to a [Baltimore] Orioles game and it’s just getting to do stuff like that You don’t necessarily think about it at the time, but it’s like, some people make a destination out of this, and for us, it’s just an off day.”

The little piece of home I have to have on tour with me is “I’m a nerd at heart, I have to have my Xbox.”

By the end of a tour the thing I’m most sick of is “The inside of my tour bus.”

My favorite way to pass time on the bus is “Old movies! Anything by Mel Brooks. I’m a die-hard Mel Brooks guy.”

The most interesting thing on my tour rider is “We ask for cottage cheese a lot, which gets us a look. I guess most artists are like, ‘Jack Daniels and Coke,’ and we ask for that too, but then there’s cottage cheese down there.”

The funniest thing I’ve seen at one of my shows is “A really heavy guy in like 98-degree weather, wearing a complete Batman costume and drinking a beer.”

Check here for Young’s upcoming tour dates (and be sure to pack that Batman suit!).

Chris Young Tickets from $77

Chris Young has been unstoppable with eleven singles that reached number one, five billion streams, and four and a half million album sales. Since his entry into and subsequent victory on the reality singing competition Nashville Star in the mid-2000s, the Murfreesboro, Tennessee native has been causing a stir in the country music industry. Chris Young has come a long way from his days as a 20-year-old guitarist to his current status as one of country music's biggest artists. He became one of the most famous reality show singers thanks to the radio-friendly tunes that featured his rich and silky baritone.

After eight studio albums and several nominations from various award-giving bodies — including the Grammys and the Academy of Country Music — Chris is still going strong in 2024. Young has been quite busy traveling and collaborating with some of the top country singers in the world, even though he hasn’t put out an album in the past years.

This year, Young's fans are delighted to hear new music from him. "Right Now" is co-written by Young with Chris DeStefano and Josh Hoge. A captivating mid-tempo tune that highlights the singer's deep vocals, the song narrates a raw portrayal of a couple who isn't ready to move on from each other just yet. This new tune has a universal theme, and listeners are drawn to the Young's deep vocals, as usual. This new song release also signals the release of Young's new album, much to his loyal fans' delight.

Named after Young's Mediabase top 40 and rising title track "Young Love & Saturday Nights," the new album is set to be released on March 22 this year. The ninth studio album contains 18 tracks, 15 of which Young himself wrote personally. The multi-platinum artist promises that fans can expect a "little louder and a little more raw" tunes from this album.

"This is what this album felt like it needed to be for me," Young says in an interview. "It's a little louder, a little more raw. Even the stripped-down songs are heavier. I love creating music and I love making it and the fact that I get to do that for a living is a pretty incredible thing," he added with excitement about the release of the album.

Apart from the album, Chris is also slated to embark on a tour to support his soon-to-released album. "Young Love and Saturday Nights Tour" will kick off in April, which will take him to some of the biggest venues in the country. He will perform at Stage AE in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on May 4. Tickets for the upcoming concert are now on sale, and you can reserve yours here by hitting the "Get Tickets" link.

Neil Young refuses to race against time

Show up at any high school graduation ceremony this spring and a teenage speechmaker might tell you that time flies, heals all wounds, is money, is a flat circle, can’t be turned back. Show up at any Neil Young concert this summer and a 78-year-old carrying an electric guitar will remind you that time really is a river, and that his music is a huge granite boulder plunked square in the middle of it.

Instead of slipping into the future, Young’s songs shrug at time. Sorry, you’re gonna have to go around me. That stubbornness remains the fundamental generosity of his music, though, and it informed nearly every gesture of a staggering performance at Jiffy Lube Live on Saturday night. Alongside trusty collaborators — the band Crazy Horse: bassist Billy Talbot, drummer Ralph Molina, the young guitarist Micah Nelson (son of Willie) — Young opened with a 10-minute rendition of “Cortez the Killer,” unfolding the song like a temporal riddle, with everyone in the band somehow playing behind the beat, generating what felt like a continuous forestalling of time. How was this happening? No idea. But it felt purposeful, exhilarating and all the way alive, like an unbroken sequence of somersaults into the present moment. And now, and now, and now, and now, and now, and now.

That euphoric tumbling sensation made the long songs feel short and the short songs feel long, as if everything had been plotted on a spiral instead of an arc — especially during “I’m the Ocean” and “Powderfinger,” where Young’s guitar solos were decisive, unhurried and bottomless. Aside from the exquisite micro-lags built into his music’s general architecture, there was zero drag on his playing or his singing voice. He sounded so intentional, so present. Who in the history of rock-and-roll has been this good at making music this loud at this age? I say nobody.

Naturally, things got quieter during the solo portion of the set, perhaps against Young’s will, as he clanged away at his acoustic guitar and blew into his harmonica as hard as a train whistle. The songs were tender, though. “Comes a Time,” “Heart of Gold,” “Human Highway,” “I Am a Child,” “Helpless,” “Love Earth.” As evidenced by an upright piano off to the side that nobody in the band ever touched, the set list was clearly being written in real time, and in one moment of wayward stage banter, Young said, “I thought of the perfect song, but now I can’t remember it.”

Maybe that was a joke on old age, or hippie spaciness, or both. But you couldn’t help but wonder whether Young was talking about “Ohio,” one of the most powerful American protest anthems ever penned and, this year, suddenly one of the most timely. Written in 1970 in response to the National Guard’s killing of four students protesting the Vietnam War at Kent State University, “Ohio” now sounds upsettingly fresh as police across our country brutalize college students protesting Israel’s war on Gaza.

So why didn’t he play it? Was it the mood (up)? Was it the crowd (older)? Maybe Young is making room for someone out there to write 2024’s version of “Ohio.” Either way, all of his political beliefs — which he didn’t discuss onstage — seemed to fit inside a couplet from “Love and Only Love”: “Hate is everything you think it is,” Young sang. “Love and only love will break it down.” The love part may have felt platitudinous on its own, but the hate part was worth burning into your permanent consciousness. If this fragile world of ours really is collapsing, let’s remember that the force destroying it is stupid, and simple, and easy to understand. It can still be defeated. We still have time.

Neil Young refuses to race against time

Neil Young reunites with Crazy Horse after a decade, performs double encore

chris young on tour

On Thursday night, magic happened in Tennesseee.

Singer-songwriter Neil Young and rock band Crazy Horse came together to perform their hits over a two-hour show at FirstBank Amphitheater on their first tour together in a decade.

The 2024 "Love Earth Tour" features the now 78-year-old singer alongside the Los Angeles rock band yet again.

Canadian singer-songwriter Young, best known for songs "Heart of Gold," "Harvest Moon" and "Old Man," released the album "Fu##in' Up" with Crazy Horse on April 25, featuring nine rock 'n' roll tracks. The two have released 15 studio albums together.

Young and Crazy Horse kicked off their brief 16-stop tour on April 24 in San Diego and will continue with upcoming stops in Virginia, New Jersey, New York and more.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

Thursday's concert in Franklin was originally slated for Wednesday evening, but was postponed by a day due to inclement weather .

But Thursday night brought the calm after the storm; the evening was serene.

Neil Young returns to Spotify after 2-year hiatus following Joe Rogan controversy

After opener Reverend Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping , a musical performance art experience that draws from religion, Young hit the stage.

The set-up featured a backdrop with a galloping horse and giant speaker cabinets and road cases, the same ones Young took on the road with him for his "Rust Never Sleeps" tour in 1978.

Young appeared in a striped cap, a denim work shirt that featured paint splatters and a Spartan Truck Equipment patch, black pants, black shoes and of course, his guitar, Old Black .

He mentioned the venue's beauty multiple times — a stage nestled in the woods of Graystone Quarry in Thompson’s Station.

"How you doin out there? Nice to see you," Young said to the Franklin crowd.

"What a beautiful place. You guys are very lucky to have this place."

Alongside Young was the band, comprised of 80-year-old Billy Talbot on bass and 80-year-old Ralph Molina on drums. They also have a new member, Micah Nelson on guitar.

Nelson, Willie Nelson 's 33-year-old son, took over for the band's previous guitarist Nils Lofgren earlier this year.

Throughout the show, Neil Young and the band played a 17-song set, full with jam sessions and occasional harmonies. Young was energized and playful, captivating the crowd with his trademark nasally, emotional voice.

The set list was mostly comprised of older hits, like 1969's "Cinnamon Girl" and 1972's "Heart of Gold."

The band didn't play any songs from their recent album; the most recent song was 1996's "Scattered (Let's Think About Livin')." Nelson's big moment came during the tune; he traded his guitar to play a swinging keyboard that descended from the ceiling.

Young's guitar playing—both electric and acoustic—was adept and agile. Though Young shared in January he has been playing guitar with arthritis in his hand for years, audience members wouldn't have guessed.

He played the blues on song "Vampire Blues," hitting guitar licks with a precision like Stevie Ray Vaughan's. He also performed drawn-out, warping guitar solos on songs like "Like a Hurricane" and "Powderfinger."

Between songs, Young would hand his guitar off to his techs (who all wore white lab coats), but was audibly uncomfortable until he had a guitar in his arms yet again.

The night's concert walked the line between a Young that leaned into classic, grunge rock 'n' roll with Crazy Horse and a Young that gently cooed with Crosby, Stills & Nash in '69, strumming an acoustic.

Young pulled off the balancing act.

Here are some of the top moments from the night.

Neil Young opens with 'Cortez the Killer,' sings newly released verse

On a purple-lit stage, Neil Young and Crazy Horse kicked off the show with the 1975 song "Cortez the Killer."

The first lyrics from Young brought cheers from the audience as he sang, "He came dancing across the water / With his galleons and guns."

Young surprised fans at the first concert of the tour by singing unreleased lyrics to the song, ones he said did not record due to a power outage on the recording console in 1975.

Young found the lyric manuscript, he said in an interview mid-April this year.

The verse was lost for nearly 50 years. Young sang the verse again in Franklin.

“I floated on the water / I ate that ocean wave / Two weeks after the slaughter/ I was living in a cave / They came too late to get me / But there’s no one here to set me free / From this rocky grave / To that snowed-out ocean wave.”

Neil Young calls on local non-profits to support his eco-friendly mission

Neil Young has been vocal about his environmental efforts throughout his career .

In 1985, Young helped establish the annual Farm Aid concerts . In 2022, he released album "World Record," an album that focuses on climate change. Later that year, Young said he refused to play venues that are supported by factory farms .

The environmentalism was felt at his Franklin show.

Upon entering the concert, fans saw a series of tents and tables from local environmental organizations all hand picked by Young, including Tennessee Local Food . The organizations attended the concert and chatted with fans about their missions.

Young calls it the "LOVE EARTH Village."

At different stops on the tour, hundreds of non-profits working for sustainability and social equity will join to chat about issues like organic farming, wildlife protection, Native American rights and climate change solutions.

According to a venue employee, Young also changed the menu for the venue's offerings on Thursday, opting for more eco-friendly options (Coke products were nowhere to be seen).

On a handout at the venue, Young wrote, "Support your friends, support your land, and support the people that want to care for the land.

"The revolution starts with us. The revolution starts with you."

Neil Young goes acoustic mid-show, takes stage alone

At one point, Young took an empty stage, traded Old Black for an acoustic, and donned the harmonica around his neck.

He sang songs, "Comes a Time," "Heart of Gold" and "Human Highway" onstage alone, leaning into his folk singer-songwriter roots.

Despite the occasional hoot or holler in the audience, a hush crept over the amphitheater as Young sang, played plucky guitar and showcased his harmonica skills between verses.

It was a gentler, softer and more intimate side to the evening.

"Heart of Gold" stood out among the acoustic section.

Young sang his biggest hit: "Keep me searching / For a heart of gold / I've been a miner / For a heart of gold."

An encore and...another encore

Before the encore, Young ended his set with song "Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)," leaving the audience with the classic and singing, "Hey hey, my my / Rock and roll can never die."

And it didn't die just then, Young and the band returned to the stage to play "Roll Another Number (For the Road)" as their encore.

After the song finished, the audience didn't stop cheering. Young and company came back to deliver a second encore, this time three songs long.

For encore two, they performed "Danger Bird," "Don't Cry No Tears" and "Sedan Delivery," ending the night on a grungy rock 'n' roll note that included pink lights and plenty of reverb.

Afterwards, the band and Young gathered arm-in-arm in a single spotlight and gave their final bow.

Woman Who Drake Kissed Onstage When She Was 17 Speaks Out: 'It Was Nothing Then and Still Nothing Now'

The clip featuring the then-23-year-old rapper resurfaced after Kendrick Lamar shed light on Drake's alleged connections to younger women.

Days after Kendrick Lamar dubbed Drake a "certified pedophile" in his mic-drop diss, "Not Like Us," a woman from a resurfaced video is coming to set the record straight.

The clip making the rounds online is taken from a Colorado show Drake performed in 2010. The then-23 year old rapper brings the girl onstage and dances with her while kissing her neck. He then interrupts himself and says, "Y'all gon' have get me carried away again. I get in trouble doin' s**t like this." When he asks for her age, she tells him she's 17.

Drake then appears shocked and says, "I can't go to jail yet, man. 17, why do you look like that? You thick, look at this."

The alleged woman in the video, Tia Jayed, came forward on Instagram to address the 14-year-old clip.

A split-screen image with a person taking a selfie on the left and a close-up of a man's face on the right, with overlaid text about a Hollywood woman speaking out

She shared some headlines and wrote, "nothing then & it's nothing now 🤷🏽‍♀️."

In a longer statement, Jayed gives some backstory on the night. She recalls her father taking her to the show and being picked by Drake's entourage, which she notes is normal for artists to do.

"I was 17 back then and I'm 31 now," she writes. "This was a concert that my dad took me to back in high-school. Drake's entourage actually picked me out from the crowd of people...NOT DRAKE himself. ... It was nothing then and still nothing now."

chris young on tour

A magnifying glass has been placed on Drake's behavior with younger women. Among those include his friendships with Billie Eilish and Millie Bobby Brown when they both were under 18, and taking out then-18-year-old Bella Harris for dinner after he reportedly knew her since she was a preteen.

Drake shut down the rumors in his latest diss track response, "The Heart Part 6," where he raps, "I never been with no one underage but now I understand why this the angle that you really mess with...if I was fucking young girls, I promise I'd have been arrested."
