  • Duration: 5 Days & 4 Nights

There are two fascinating treks South and North side of Deo Tibba. In this trek, we take the trail that goes North of Deo Tibba at Piang Neru, from where it provides a more clear view of Deo Tibba peak situated at an altitude of 6001m in the Eastern Pin Panjal range of the Himalayas. Lush green meadows carpeted with wildflowers as well as herbal plants grow abundantly here. A comfortable trek, the route is full of panoramic views along thick forest and alpine plateau to the Piang Neru. Piang Neru nullah or Jobri nullah is a principal tributary of the Hamta nullah. From Jagatsukh/Banara we follow one of the best alpines walks with an untiring gradient to Sarotu Thach (Thach – meadow), Jogi dug, Rauli Kholi. Crossing the wonderful alpine plateau a breath-taking view of Deo Tibba appears with magical suddenness. Piang Neru is at about 3700 meters where lateral moraines of the Piang Neru glacier comes to an end. We walk to the source of Jobri nullah, just beneath the Deo Tibba peak on rocky terrain and glacier. Finally, we make our way through Marhi which is the favorite area of Shepherds, and the final descent to Jobri.

Located in the Manali valley in Himachal Pradesh's Pir Panjal range, the stunning peak of the Deo Tibba Expedition stands at an altitude of 6001 metres. Dome-like in appearance, it may be seen in Duhangan Nalla and Malana glacier, which consists of a large ice cap. Once you reach the edge of the ice plateau, you may access the real climb, which is a snow hump. It's stunningly located at a height of slightly over 6,000 metres, which will be a significant milestone for any dedicated mountaineer. The hike up Deo Tibba, a renowned summit, passes through the beautiful Himalayan foothills. At the peak, visitors might ponder whether or not the legend that all the Hindu gods used to hold caucuses atop this dome is grounded in reality. The top of this dome-shaped mountain, the second-highest in the Pir Panjal Range, provides a panoramic view of the surrounding snow-capped mountains.

Traveling the rocky paths leading to Chikkha while being accompanied by a winding stream will be a lot of fun. Chikkha is characterised by lush green pastures under clear blue sky; on our journey to Seri, we will pass through this area, and it will be a delight to stroll among its fields of wildflowers. The route winds its way upwards through forests of birch, pine, fir, and cedar. Amazingly beautiful sights like the Tenta Waterfall, Chandertal, and Jagatsukh can only be fully appreciated by being there in person. Chota Chandratal, high above Tenta, will serve as our base for the next several days. We'll start at base camp and acclimatise ourselves there before ferrying supplies to outlying sites. We'll start our ascent on the scree of Duhangan Col., continue over the vast ice field, and then continue up the ice cliffs. Your physical and mental fortitude will be put to the ultimate test as we make our ascent. Upon reaching our last destination, the peak of Deo Tibba, you will see its pristine magnificence in all its sweeping majesty. Once at the summit, you'll be able to take in breathtaking views of other mountain ranges and towering peaks in the distance, and you'll have a great sense of accomplishment. Carefully retreat from the top camp to the base camp and so on until you reach the trailhead. After a few days of camping in the wilderness, we have finally returned to the lush natural valleys of Kullu Manali. Now that we've travelled for what seems like forever, it's time to say our goodbyes and go home.

This journey spends 12 nights and 13 days exploring Mount Deo Tibba. You'll have plenty of time to adjust to the altitude on this lengthy trip. The spectacular trip is home to a peaceful and beautiful scenery that just enchants visitors into learning more about the rich history and culture of Himachal.

Itinerary of Expedition

You will be welcomed by our agents when you arrive in Manali, and from there, you will be driven to the rest of your lodgings and activities. On this day, we will finish the paperwork and any other preparation that is necessary. Following completion of all of the tasks, one may go to Manali.

Travel from Manali to Duhangan via the winding roads that lead into the heart of Hampta. Once you have arrived at the end of the road, prepare for the journey that lies ahead by picking up your bags and leaving our vehicle behind. The first part of our hike will consist of very easy ascents along the creek that will take us into the deep woodland. We won't be in a hurry as we make our way up the route, so we can take in the untamed natural surroundings. As time goes on, the woodlands will begin to thin out, and the town of Chhika will begin to take shape. Chhika is a sacred location that is connected to the residence of the Nag Devta. At this location, there is a rock that has a naturally carved sculpture of Nag Devta, also known as the Snake Deity, that is as lifelike as it could have been produced at the time. This natural representation of the Snake Deity may be seen in close proximity to the temple grounds. The idol seems to be ascending towards the mountains and looks as natural as it can. There are huts available for devotees who choose to spend the night there. After we have some tea and some snacks, we will look about the region and then fix our campers. Tents will be used as lodging for the night.

Today, we will begin with a steaming cup of tea, followed by the delectable breakfast that has been prepared. Initially, the hike will only be a modest amount of work as it passes through the dense woodland beside the creek. The vegetation of the lowlands will gradually transition into the vegetation of the highlands, and there will be birch trees along the way. This shift is then followed by the appearance of plant species that evolved in highland meadows, such as alpine shrubs. Along the way, we will go past the fabled location known as Pandu Ropa, which was a paddy field where the Pandavas grew rice. Spending some time in this breathtaking setting is highly recommended. Moving further, we traverse the stones and plants of the highland area as we make our way beyond the Duddu Pathar. We are going to be surrounded by bushes and stones up to the point when we can see the vast and expansive meadows of Seri. Although there are a few steeper sections on the path, the distance may be accomplished in a leisurely fashion overall. After arriving at Seri, one is able to see the wonderful campground's expansiveness for themselves. The large, flatlands that are decorated with vibrant plant life and have a stream that flows in a zigzag pattern close to the camp are what give it its moment of vitality. The area is hemmed in on all sides by precipitous cliffs of the surrounding mountains, and there is a breathtaking waterfall right in front of it that cascades down the Tenta cliffs. Discover the broad flatland and come face to face with the horses as they roam freely all over the field during the twilight hours. Don't forget to look up at the night sky, the stars, the milky way, and the constellations that are clearly visible when you have the chance. Because the campground at Seri is often subjected to arctic winds, the evenings and nights there may be rather chilly.

During the early hours of the day, make sure to catch the stunning contrast created by the sun rising on one side of the mountains as it illuminates the other side from behind the mountains. After you've had some tea and breakfast, you may begin your hike through the vast flatlands of Seri. The level ground comes to an end, and after that there is a sharp ascent that has to be traversed. Therefore, the only vegetation that can be seen consists of grasslands and a few species of Himalayan herbs. In order to go over the cliff, you have to finish the winding track, which takes an hour, and additional modest stepping, but it leads you to the flowing torrent to cross. The water in the creek is ice cold, and there is a raging torrent to go through. After we have traversed it, we shall continue our trek on the other huge flatland. The steady ascent will remain the same, and the trek to our camping ground at Tenta will be taken at a leisurely pace. Tenta is an encampment that is mostly surrounded by the cattle that the shepherds care for. Tenta is not only a lovely spot but also a position from where one can observe the whole valley as well as the path that was taken before. One may get a good view of the huge Mt. Deo Tibba from Tenta, which is located in an elevated location above us. After a nutritious meal, you should spend the night in the campgrounds.

We will be resting for the whole day today and getting used to the higher altitude. It is possible to get used to the climbing strategies and gear that will be required in the future. Explore the area, don't spend the whole time inside the tent, and make an effort to go hiking during the afternoon.

A portion of our gear will need to be transported to the Advance base camp, so get up early. A trek with large backpacks containing all of our climbing gear, rations, and other necessities will serve as our acclimatisation. Climbers will have a better understanding of the challenges that lie ahead if they move load from one campground to the next. After leaving our belongings in the Advanced Base camp, we will make our way back to the Base camp. Take the opportunity to rest up for the day that lies ahead.

The portion of the ascent that takes place above ABC and through Duhangan col. is the most difficult portion. Even for climbers with previous experience ascending at altitudes higher than 6000 metres, the Duhangan col's combination of ice and scree is a difficult challenge. The trek up to the col is quite steep and difficult until you reach the summit. As a result of the loose stones and pebbles, the grade continues angling vertically, making it very tough to climb. In order to make it through this phase of pushing one's limitations, one has to be dedicated and well-prepared. The climbers need to be aware of their surroundings at all times since even the smallest step might cause a piece of loose rock to fall and hurt someone climbing behind them. Therefore, maintaining vigilance and being active is required throughout this section of the ascent. Climbing to the top of the Duahangan col takes roughly seven to eight hours on average. After climbing the challenging stretch, one will be able to glimpse a large ice field that extends well below the summit. As we make our way across the ice field, the sheer magnitude of it becomes apparent. The location of our overnight camp will be on this enormous expanse of ice.

In order to set up summit camp, you will need to get an early start. There are two different paths that may be used to get to summit camp, and both have been utilised by recent climbers. One possible path ascends the southeast piton ridge till reaching a steep snow ramp that leads to an additional ridge that connects the higher neve slopes. Climbers typically use the alternate path, which leads them to a gully that is composed of both snow and ice and is located to the southeast of the piton ridge. We have the ability to take any route by determining what the climbers or the scenario requires.

Today is the day that everyone involved in the climbing had been looking forward to the most. The ascent to the Deo Tibba Expedition peak will begin as soon as we are able to adequately prepare ourselves for the steep terrain. The path is a combination of snow and ice, and it ascends steadily all the way to the summit. It is a challenging endeavour, and you will need all of your efforts to be successful in order to reach the summit. Your years of hard work and dedication to improving your strength would be put to good use at a level of success that almost everyone aspires to attain. It is important that our goal be accomplished on time so that we may enjoy some moments of glory atop the mountain by taking pictures and raising the Indian flag. On the horizon, one could make out gigantic peaks and mountain ranges that extended out in the distance. Standing at the summit, high above the clouds, one would have the sensation of having won the battle against the formidable mountain and the exhilaration would last forever. Retrace your steps with great care in the direction of the summit camp. When you arrive, enjoy a steaming cup of tea and reminisce about happy occasions that brought you glory. After supper, we should get some rest and try to get a good night's sleep before we go back down.

This day is set aside in case the weather takes an unexpected turn or the climb for the Deo Tibba Expedition  must be postponed owing to illness or any other cause.

Descend down the treacherous Duhangan pass in a safe manner, and arrive back at the base camp. The exquisite scenery, which has been absent for a few days, will make one feel valued and nostalgic. Enjoy the evening with a steaming bowl of soup while taking in the view from the summit at your own pace. Spend the night in one of the tents.

The wild flora and animals that we will encounter today, together with the verdant scenery that surrounds us, will invigorate and thrill each and every one of us once again. We retrace our steps and make our way to Chhika by the afternoon.

The last day has come, and with it comes the last opportunity for anybody to make it back to civilisation. After a two-hour hike, we will arrive at the Duhangan Project site, where our car will be waiting for us. Chhika is the starting point of our journey. We will get back in the car and go back to Manali. When in Manali, visitors are at liberty to go to any location of their choosing.

➽ Preparation for Expedition

As you well know, the great Himalayan expedition is one that requires careful preparation, a strategy that allows for enough flexibility to adapt to whatever challenges may arise.

Therefore, here are some things to consider before setting out on your Deo Tibba expedition:

⦿ Physically – You should start working out at least a month before signing up for a program if you want to be physically prepared for the rigours of a journey. Strengthen your legs by jogging and working out regularly to increase your stamina. To better acclimatise to the environment and increase your resilience on the walk, you should give up smoking and undertake breathing exercises twice a day. Engage in vigorous physical activity, such as playing sports, doing Yoga, or running.

⦿ Mentally –

Getting in shape physically is essential, but mental preparation is just as crucial for a successful walk. Take time to enjoy your regular activities, maintain a healthy diet and sleep schedule, and unwind before embarking on a hike. Predictions regarding the journey should not cause mental worry. Spend time with your closest pals to recharge your batteries and renew your spirit. Pre-trek preconceptions are unwarranted since the first contact with the other trekkers is certain to be a source of inspiration and energy. Conditions during the walk will contribute to the increase in mental readiness. The mental repercussions of physical disadvantages will not be ignored. So, when you hike, pay attention to different regions of your body and purposefully relax them. If you want to enjoy your hike, you should learn to loosen up a little, particularly in the hips. Think about your descent as a simple dance, and enjoy the natural rhythms that the path and your body can discover together gradually, whether you're on a flowing downhill route or a frightening slope. Try out a few new walking techniques to add some fun to your commute without worrying about getting somewhere in particular. Maintaining mental fitness mostly requires a willingness to relax and take in the journey, rather than subjecting oneself to undue stress.

  • Trek Distance: 0.6 Kilometer

Load Ferry means when you go to work at high altitudes but at the latter part of the day come back at low altitudes to sleep. You will carry all the vital types of equipment along with you to the higher camp and later will return to base camp 2. This is because high altitudes are different from the plains so it is important to return to lower levels. The lunch will be packed on the way and have enough water.

Base camp 2 is at the Dhanuan Pass and the location is visible from Base Camp 1 due to its orange color. Initial 200 meters of the trek you have to go through moderate climbing, further 300 meters there is steep climbing and the rest of the 100 meters have a flat slope. Due to snow and climbing, there are chances of slippery surfaces so make sure you come along with your guide and team. The first hour of the trek has moderate climbing which will get steeper in the later hours. Carry only the items that you need and leave the rest of the things in base camp 2 which will save you from carrying heavy luggage. The load ferry rule is vital in the case of trekking at higher altitudes as it saves a person from any sort of health issues. Walk slowly and along with the team as the area is covered with snow and there are chances of falling. You can have a good time in ice sports and skills. The night will be adventurous at the Summit Camp.

The trek to the summit attempt will begin early in the morning so have enough rest at night. The initial few kilometers are steep climbing so climb slowly and carefully on snow. A few hours later, you will see Indrasan Peak. The real problem is the lack of oxygen due to a surge in altitude. The trek is manageable but there are many deep cracks on the way. The last few kilometers are a flat walk to the summit. You can rest and spend some time at the summit but later on, return to base camp 2 due to oxygen problems.

Day 1: Pickup from Manali Bus Stand. Drive to Bara Hazar and trek to Chikka – a 17 km – 4/5 Hours journey (12 km by taxi and 5 km by foot)

On the first day, we’ll drive to Bara Hazar, the starting point of the trek, via Jagatsukh. From there, we’ll begin our trek to Chikka. You’ll have to cross the bridge, follow the trail into the woods, then cross another bridge before preparing for a steep climb for 15-20 minutes and a gradual walk next. Admire the waterfalls and streams along the trail until you reach your first camp at Chikka, where you’ll spot some muddy houses and set up camp for the night.

Day 2: Trek from Chikka to Seri – 6km –5/6 Hours journey

Start your day with a beautiful sunrise and walk around the meadow. Follow the well-marked Seri trail through the forest and cross a slippery boulder segment. Take a rest at Panduropa meadow, fill your water bottle, and continue on the trail. Another boulder section is ahead, but easier to cross. Finally, reach Seri and enjoy the scenic beauty of the meadows and mountains. Call it a day after dinner or stargaze to your heart’s content.

Day 3: Trek from Seri to Deo Tibba Base Camp – 4km – (4/5Hours journey)

Today’s hike is super exciting and starts along the river towards a sparkling waterfall. Look for a cairn, cross the river, and follow the steep trail for 2-2.5 hours to reach the top. Enjoy the scenic views and continue trekking along the river until you reach the boulders. Cross the river again and find an ideal spot for camping. There are many water sources available along the way, so you can be flexible in choosing a spot.

Day 4: Trek from Deo Tibba Base Camp to Chota Chandartal back to Base Camp – 2km (2/3hours Journey)

The trail to Chota Chandartal is rocky and confusing, so finding the way can be challenging. To reach the lake, start by climbing steeply on the left side of the stream and switchbacking to make it easier. Move towards Norbu Peak to find your way. Keep an eye out for Deo Tibba, Norbu, and Jagatsukh peaks along the way. After 45 minutes to an hour, you’ll reach Chota Chandartal, and if you have energy, you can visit the larger Bada Chandartal. The return trek is challenging due to the rocky terrain and can be hard on your knees.

Day 5: Trek from Deo Tibba to Seri – 3km (3/4hours)

Begin your day with a breath of fresh air as you explore the meadows and cross the river before retracing your steps. Take caution when descending the steep route, as rainy weather can make it tricky and increase the risk of encountering boulders. Once you’ve safely crossed the river, continue walking through the grasslands to reach the Seri Campsite.

Day 6: Trek from Seri to Manali via Bara Bazar – 8 km (5hours journey)

The route for today’s trek is not too difficult as you will be retracing your steps back to Baara Hazar. It usually takes 5-6 hours to reach Baara Hazar and the trail is moderate with some moraines. You will also experience a gradual descent through alpine forests. Himachal is an excellent destination for trekking, and it offers numerous hidden gems and untouched spots that are truly amazing. The base for the Deo Tibba Base Camp Trek is scheduled at Manali. Report to Manali early in the morning. We tend to pick you up early in the morning from the Manali bus stand. Post breakfast and refreshments, we drive to Khanol via Jagatsukh village, which takes about an hour and a half. The drive from Manali to Khanol is not very long but scenic. We begin the trek from Khanol, and follow a gradually ascending trail through a dense pine forest, which leads us to the first campsite of our trek – Chikka. The whole trail is filled with diverse varieties of berries and flora. The breathtaking views of the Indrasen peak and the Spiti Valley will prove to be a delight for your eyes!

Overnight stay will be at Chikka base camp. Campfire and fun activities will be organized if the weather permits us to. Dinner will be served and then a cozy sleep will be arranged inside the tents so that you are completely refreshed to take up the challenges for the following day of the trek.

Day 2 : Trek from Chikka to Seri

The second day of the trek was quite challenging taking you through dense coniferous forests, the likes of which no other treks can beat. The altitude gain is quite considerable, which only adds to the thrill. Leaving behind the beautiful campsite of Chikka, we trail the path running beside the Jagatsukh river bank. The trek difficulty is moderate including few easy and level walk along with lots of ascents. Although there are a couple of water sources present in the trail, it is advised to carry 2 liters of water.

The trail re-enters the forest and is paved by beautiful wildflowers giving a path to an amazing landscape accompanies with boulders and grass. The altitude increases noticeably, and the tree line gradually falls behind as we approach Seri, a lovely meadow which used to house a glacial lake but now it is transformed into a large meadow with the company of an astounding variety of herbs and flowers. The campsite is crisscrossed by several streams gurgling past, with the backdrop of Tainta waterfalls. We camp here for the night in tents.

Day 3 : Trek from Seri to Tainta

We will start the day early after having a healthy breakfast at the Seri campsite. The third day of the trek incorporates a moderate level of difficulty including gradual and steep ascents. It is advised to carry 2 liters of water. You will find a few water sources down the day’s trail where you can replenish your water needs. We leave behind the campsite of Seri and leave for the campsite of Tainta. The trek begins with an easy walk over a flat ground of meadows, succeeded by a stream-crossing which lands us near the Jagatsukh Nala. From here on, the trail becomes steeper and is stretched over moraines and boulders. We soon reach our campsite, which is towered magnificently by the lofty Mt. Deo Tibba, which reveals itself for the very first time!

Spend the day resting and exploring around the campsite. Today, you will get a lot of time to rest and recuperate for the challenges that lie further ahead in our quest for the summit. Overnight camping will be set up in tents.

Day 4 : Trek from Tainta to Mini Chandratal and back

Finally, we have to be all set for the most-awaited and crucial day of the entire trek and hence it also gives rise to the most difficult day of the whole journey. So, brace yourself for an exhilarating day ahead.

A long day. We begin early post breakfast, and carry the day’s lunch in day packs. The trail is stretched over moraines still and is chaperoned by Deo Tibba in all its splendor. The climb gets steeper and steeper, before finally giving way to a beautiful alpine lake, also nicknamed ‘mini Chandratal’. Tons of wildflowers cover the vicinity of the lake. Witnessing the serene lake filled with emerald blue water will refrain you to return back from this mesmerizing place.

Explore around the lake, and head back to the Tainta campsite post-lunch. The descent takes a notorious turn as the route is covered in moraine and scree. It’s important to be more sure-footed in this region. We will reach Tainta by evening. Overnight camping at Tainta will mark the end of this beautiful day.

Day 5 : Trek from Tainta to Chikka

Early morning will mark the beginning of a beautiful sunrise so close that it will leave you wondering for a moment. We begin descending back to Chikka, following the same trail we took while ascending. Make sure that you have water bottles along with you. The trek is quite easy. We will break for lunch near Dudu Patthar, and reach Chikka.

Overnight stay will be in tents at Chikka campsite. We will have our dinner while cherishing some of the memories of the trek and then go to sleep for the last time on this unforgettable trek.

Day 6 : Finish the trek and Drive to Manali

Wake up early in the morning to catch the sunrise and for a fresh breath. This beautiful scenery and serenity of the place will surely restrict your return back into the chaotic world. Indulge yourself in clicking some sweet snaps which will act as a memory when you shall look back down the memory lane of your life. From this place, you can get clear snapshots of the beautiful Himalayan Ranges.

This will mark the last day of the trek where we will drive all the way to Manali from Khanol after descending down from Chikka campsite. Witnessing some alluring landscapes, we will reach Manali by 6 pm in the evening. If you wish to stay after the trek, you can also enjoy sightseeing in Kullu and Manali. The nearest airport is in Bhuntar which is 11km from Kullu and 52 km from Manali. You can take a taxi from Bhuntar to Manali which will cost approximately Rs, 1000/-. The airlines that you can take are Indian Airlines, Kingfisher Airlines, Jagson Airlines operating flights from Delhi as well as Chandigarh. To reach Manali by air, you need to have a connecting flight via Delhi or Chandigarh. Delhi or Chandigarh is well connected to major airports across the country. You can check your flight in the following links: 1.  https://www.google.com/flights  2.  https://www.makemytrip.com/flights/

To reach by road, you can take an overnight bus from Delhi to Manali or Chandigarh to Manali. Manali is well connected to cities by road. The roads are in good condition but there are sudden landslides in the monsoon season. The bus from Delhi to Manali can take up to 14 hours and from Chandigarh to Manali is 9 hours at least. Tickets are available online on Redbus.in, Goibibo.in or Hrtc.gov.in. You can pay online for the bus tickets. The last government bus leaves at 11:15 pm at night and starts from ISBT Kashmere Gate. Plan your onward journeys only post noon giving enough buffer for bus delays.

We do not recommend you travel by train as the closest railway station, Jogindernagar is 5 hours away which you will again have to cover by bus or cab.

I had the most wonderful experience trekking through the ranges of Chandrashila with Trekmunk. The small moments of achievement were phenomenal. Chandrashila is the most astonishing peak that I've ever trekked through; I've never been so fascinated. I think I am going to go for another trek with Trekmunk soon enough! The kind of hospitality that is provided to us is worth appreciating. I made many new friends and have enjoyed each and every day of this trek to its fullest.

Chadar trek is considered to be one of the most difficult and dangerous treks, which requires a lot of skilled trek leaders, a perfect guide and a strong team of porters. I choose Trekmunk for Chadar and they proved they are a perfect team. Highly skilled trek leaders, professional skiers, gave us details on how to walk on slippery ice. Professionally trained and certified with wilderness medication programs always ready to take your care in any condition and travelers themselves. One will enjoy their company, their travel stories and their way of leading a trek. Cheers to team Trekmunk.

No words for the bike trip from Srinagar to Leh. One should experience it to feel it and all this because of the management of Trekmunk especially Mohit and Harshit whose efforts even made the hardest of the ride exciting adventurous and above all safe. Although some hindrances which are quite common like bike issues and medical problems arose with our co-riders, I liked the way these two guys handled it dexterously. I went with one of my best friends and came with a lot more and the trip turned out to be memories that can be cherished for a lifetime. Thanks, Team Trekmunk for giving me a wonderful experience. I can't wait to go on my next adventure with them.

I and my friends went to Markha Valley trek with Trekmunk and we all had a great time. Walking up and down the hill, coming across some beautiful sites was mesmerizing. Staying in tents was so much fun. And our guide had all the knowledge about the trek. Trekmunk is really good with its food and accommodation facilities. I highly recommend Trekmunk. Kudos to their Team.

I chose (after a lot of research) Trekmunk for my first trek - The Hampta Pass and Chandratal Trek. And I am so really glad I did so. The trekker needs to only focus on the trek and the beautiful landscape around him/her. The rest of everything is taken care of by Trekmunk from day 1 till the end of the trek. Scrupulously managed logistics; no compromise on safety and security; experienced, intelligent and knowledgeable trek leaders; scrumptious meals; contingency and backup plans; etc. make Trekmunk an ideal choice to go trekking with. My trek was lead by Ashish Pathania, Prashant Reddy and Sanjay Thakur. The three are were thorough professionals. They were jolly, very helpful, experienced, knowledgeable, organized, and needless to say polite yet strict when needed. They played the most important roles in making sure our overall trekking experience was a wonderful one. Thank you Trekmunk for one of the most beautiful experiences I have had till date. Will see you guys soon.

Region: Manali

Deo Tibba is a beautiful 6001 m. high peak situated in the Pir Panjal range of mountains in the Manali valley of Himachal Pradesh. It is located at Duhangan Nalla and Malana glacier. Deo Tibba consists of an extensive ice cap the actual climb being a snow hump accessible once the edge of the ice plateau is reached. It also has the beauty of being just over the 6000 m. high mark which is a great achievement for any climber. Trekking to the base of mighty peak is an ultimate experience. The base of this peak is about 4500m. At this height one can feel the low level of oxygen in the air, which can cause dizziness and distress while climbing to the base camp. The base is near to a lake called Chota Chandertal. Above the small lake there is located another lake similarly called Chandertal but with larger magnitude. One can have a sight of the Highest Peak in the Pir panjal rage. The atmosphere up here is incredible and unpredictable. You will feel like floating on the clouds as the fog come across the camp and pass above the valley below. The conditions are harsh with freezing temperature at such height realizing one with the effects of altitude and adverse weather. The further route can be seen from this point, mostly the Duhangan col. which is clearly visible from the Chota Chandertal, is the toughest test for the climbers at initial climb after the base camp. The route to base camp is magnificent. One would be splendid by the views that site across the trek. The waterfalls, beautiful meadows, big vast fields of pastures, meandering streams and the lush green wild forests on the trail are unmatchable experience.

This astonishing trek starts from Khanool village just 6 kms far from Jagatsukh. From  Jagatsukh to Khanol by taxi and then trek starts from Chhika. In couple of hours we reach at Chhika, a holy place for the locals where one can see the Nag devta (Snake deity) engraved naturally on the stone lying near to the place. The figure of the Nag Devta on the stone seems as it is actually climbing up to the forest. After all rest of the area offers great atmosphere.  After Chhika we hike up leaving treeline behind treading over the moraines till Pandu ropa. The Pandu ropa is also meant as a holy place. According to Hindu Mythology that Pandavas used to grow paddy at this point, as the name Pandu Ropa Suggests.  One can see paddy field on the way to the base camp. After Pandu ropa we reach Seri in 4-5 hours. Seri is a huge pasture ground surrounded by the peaks and waterfalls. Seri is a magical place where one will forget all the fatigue felt earlier on the trek. The vast green field has torrents and streams flowing along to it, creating a spectacular meandering landscape. The sunsets and the sunrises are often colorful here.  Seri to Tenta is about 3-4 hours. As climbing up to Tenta one has to cross the stream once and follow the stream on the left till Tenta , a grassy field below the lake. The scenery of valley below reminds one that how high they had come. After climbing hours one would feel less oxygen as approaching to the Tenta. The air gets thinner as we get near to Chota Chandertal.   It is a 3 or 4 day approach walk to base camp, till now one would have become well acclimatized to the atmosphere . The base camp is located near a glacier lake called "Chandra Tal" close to the main glacier that falls off the south-east face of Deo Tibba. This is at an altitude of 4500m/14850ft. It is quite a high base camp with the mighty Deo Tibba peak in the north and the Duhangan col. in front from the base. It is a decent trekking experience reaching up to the 4000m. altitude without any special efforts made. So one should do this trek and have a glimpse of the highest peak located in the Pir Panjal range.

Travel by taxi till Khanool. The trek goes moderately into the woods. Trail takes you into wild forests, lush green meadows and to the spiritual place called Chhika. A figure of a snake engraved naturally on a stone near to the place, belongs to Hindu Snake God Nag Devta. It is truly a piece of art made by the Mother Nature, which really looks like a snake climbing towards the mountain. A Nag temple is also located in the vicinity of Chhika. There are also shelters to stay for the night.

Another mind blowing day with picturesque landscapes streams and waterfalls has to come. Today’s trail is gentle which passes by the Pandu Ropa in between and keeps going moderately. Seri is an outstanding place to camp with broad landscape, streams and waterfalls in front.  At Seri one can see the huge field of pasture which makes the campsite magical by its beauty. Seri is a vast pasture ground with the waterfall in front, streams flowing by, huge rocky mountains surrounding the sides of the site. Cherish the evening lights from the high altitude valley. Spend night gazing the stars at Seri.

The day starts with moderate walking followed by a stream. Then the trail consists of steep climb through boulders and leads to moraines.  After the steep climb trail is moderate with gentler gradient. In between a stream has to be crossed and following the stream will lead to Tenta. At Tenta majestic Deo Tibba can be seen with all its glory. The campsite has a picturesque landscape that one might be amazed of it. Spend a night at campsite.

Our trekking today is steep at initial, which will take us as higher as 4500m. , so the level of oxygen in the air decreases as altitude goes above 4000m. The base camp is at 4500m. So one might caught by mountain sickness. (dizziness, sensation of vomiting, headache  etc ). After a steep climb reach at high altitude lake with emerald blue water. Spend some time watching mighty Deo Tibba and explore around the Mini Chandratal then return back to the campsite at Tenta.

Retrace the way back to Chhika through beautiful meadows of Seri to boulders of Dudu Pather. Stay overnight in camps at Chhika.

Small Group Size

Our batch sizes are capped at 15 for smaller treks with the trek leader and trekker ratio of 1:8. This ratio, in our years of experience, has proven to deliver the best trekking experience for individuals as well as groups. Capping the size of the group ensures individual attention to each trekker so that no signs of distress or need during the trek go unnoticed. It also helps to form a more cohesive cohort with better group energy which helps define the rhythm and pace of days on the trek. As you go higher up on the BRS scale, since the stakes are higher, expeditions have an even smaller group size with the ratio of expedition leader to climber set at 1:2.

Day 1 :  Drive from Manali to Bara Hazar and trek to Chikka

  • Altitude: 8858ft (2700m) to 10498ft (3200m)
  • Time taken: 2-3 hours of trek.
  • Total distance covered: 5 Km Approx.
  • Water Sources: Carry sufficient water bottles as there are plenty of waterfalls and streams along the trail to refill the bottles whenever required.
  • Accommodation and food: Tents in the camping ground of Chikka

The first day will include an initial drive of about from Manali to Jagat Sukh by bus for about 12.7 km which would take around 45 to 50 minutes to reach and then from there on, we will be arranging a vehicle towards the trekking point till the start of Bara Hazaar. Once you reach Bara Hazar, look for a Duahngan Dam Control Room, this will be situated towards the right of the valley connected with the help of a bridge. As you will make your way across the bridge, a trail leading into the woods will stand there waiting for you to start. Follow this path and look for a bridge connecting towards the left side of the valley. After you cross the bridge, be prepared to face steep climb for about 15 to 20 minutes which will then convert into an easier gradual walk. Witness the captivating waterfalls and charming streams as you cross the trail reaching your very first camp base at Chikka.

The interesting thing about this trail is at certain points the whole trail cocoons and and gets covered with canopies making darker and greyer as walk past it but as you go ahead a few hundred meters or so, it opens up to the beautiful meadows. Once you walk ahead for a half an hour more through the closings, the trail opens up to a wide enchanting valley. After a gradual ascent and small hike through the meadows, you will spot a few muddy houses built alongside each other, set your camp for the night here.

Day 2 :  Chika to Seri

  • Altitude: 10498 ft (3136m) to 12795 ft (3900m)
  • Total Time taken: 5-6 hrs
  • Total distance covered: 6km
  • Water Sources: You can refill your bottles here from the multiple water sources that you will carry along the way towards your next campsite.
  • Accommodation and food: Tents in the camping ground of Seri

Mornings at Chikka are such a delight to experience, the mesmerizing sunrise, and the cold breezy air that fills up your face. Have an early morning and begin walking towards your next stop for the day, Seri. The trail commences after a straight walk through the forest which is well marked with stones and cairns throughout the way. After you?ve walked for an hour, you will notice a stream and little ahead of the water lies a small segment of boulders. Usually the rain showers tend to make these boulders slippers and crossing this segment becomes a little difficult when it?s pouring. However, you can take gradual and steady steps while keeping your grip firm as you cross this segment to avoid any falls and slips. There also lies a very steep climb ahead as you cross the boulder section, make sure you have your eyes open when you are passing through and keep switching your steps and avoid straining your knees a lot.

After crossing a distance of around 3 km, you will reach a tiny meadow called Panduropa. There?s a water source here where you can refill your bottles and take a break for 5 to 10 to catch your breath for a few minutes before getting back to the trail. After walking for an hour from Pandora, you will again reach a boulder section but this will not be as difficult as the last time as the trail is pretty prominent here. But make sure you cross the boulder slowly to avoid any chances of falls. Once you have crossed the boulder section, your next campsite Seri will await surrounded by grassland, patches of sand and gigantic mountains in the backdrop. After the tiresome trek to Seri, spend your afternoon chilling and laying around the field while soaking in the beauty of neighboring peaks of Jagatsukh, Norbu and Malana Pass. If you look closely, you can also get a faint view of Deo Tibba base camp from this point. Call it a day after having a fulfilling dinner and sleep peacefully or you can also stargaze as long as you want.

Day 3 :  Seri to Deo Tibba Base Camp

  • Altitude: 12795 ft (3900m) to 13684 ft (4171m)
  • Time taken: 4-5 hrs
  • Total distance covered: 4 km
  • Water sources: Make sure you carry at least of water per person by refilling from the water sources around in Seri as you leave for Deo Tibba base camp, there are no water sources available in that area.
  • Accommodation and food: Tents in the camping ground of Deo Tibba basecamp

The next morning is going to be a considerably easy start with the lush grassy meadow of Seri. The pleasant sunrays will give you the much-needed warmth in the midst of the cold breeze that will hit your face. Today is the day we will be doing the Deo Tibba base camp and the trail will be one of the exciting ones so far. You will walk along the flowing river in the direction of a sparkling waterfall and after a point of time, you will be able to notice a cairn. Cross the river when you reach this spot and continue to trace the trail. After a while, you will notice a trail moving upwards, mind your steps closely from this point as the trail gets steeper for the next 2 to 2.5 hours. As you reach the topmost point, soaking in the realms of nature will give you a sigh of relief embracing you with the beautiful escapade. As you see around the place, you will not only be physically at peace but will also feel spiritual lightness and contentment from within.

From this point onwards till the next campsite, it?s a simple trek that follows the bank of the river till the point where you reach big boulders, the trail ends there. You will need to cross the river here and keep marching towards the meadows till you find an ideal spot where the tents will be pitched by us. You will find multiple water sources available on your way, thus you can be flexible about your choice of spot to camp.

Day 4 :  Deo Tibba Base camp to Chotta Chandartal and back to base

  • Altitude: 13684 ft (4171m) to 14698 ft (4480m) to 13684 ft (4171m)
  • Time taken: 2-3 hrs
  • Total distance covered: 2 km
  • Trek gradient: A modest climb through rocks & boulders. However, make sure you cross it slowly and gradually if it is raining or it has rained. The Boulders tend to get extremely slippery post rain showers.
  • Water sources: Make sure you have enough water when you leave from Seri itself as the glacier stream ahead is not reliable to classify as drinking water
  • Accommodation and food: Tents in the camping ground of Deo tibba base camp.

The next morning we will start with the trek towards Chota Chandratal. An enchanted lake surrounded by snow-covered peaks and situated at the altitude of 4500m is one of the well-kept secrets of the Himachal region.

The pathways to Chota Chandratal is a bit confusing as the walk passes through multiple sections of rocks and moraines. You can commence your trek from the left side of the small stream and take the next steep inclination which is slightly difficult. You will not find a proper laid out trail till Chota Chandratal, hence you will have to believe the navigation skills of the guide. However, if you move towards the direction of Norbu Peak which is the highest peak in the region, you will be able to find a pathway that walks upstream towards Chota Chandratal.

While you?re passing through the trail, you will get the visual treat of Norbu, Deo Tibba base camp and Jagatsukh peak in your left direction. After a few meters, you will reach towards the lake where you will start seeing the traces of the trail again. As you walk for about one hour following the same marked trail at a gradual steady pace, you will finally reach Chota Chandratal situated at the altitude of 4480 meters. If you are not too exhausted after reaching the camp, you can move ahead and explore the better parts ahead of Bada Chandratal which is bigger and more gorgeous than Chota Chandratal.

You can spend the rest of your time exhilarating the views of nature and soaking in all the fresh vibes of the surroundings. Once you are all through with the views of both the lakes, you can begin to descend using the exact same route that you came up from. The descending trail is a bit more difficult and tiresome as compared to the ascent. The route would be similar, however as you proceed further, the entire weight of your body falls heavy on the lower part of your body, straining your knees. Make sure you move slowly and steadily as you cross the rocky terrain, moraine and the boulder section to avoid any slips and injuries.

Day 5 :  Deo Tibba Base to Seri

  • Altitude: 13684 ft (4171m) to 10286 ft (3136m)
  • Time taken: 3-4 hrs
  • Trek gradient: Commence with an easy flat meadow walk followed by a slightly difficult steep descent down the rocks
  • Water sources: Carry 2 litres of water from Seri as there is no water source available till the Deo Tibba base camp.

Start your day with a hypnotizing sunrise and witness the sky unfold from dark blue to tangerine orange to bright blue as the sun shines above you. After a delicious hot piping breakfast served along with a hot cup of chai, commence walking towards the meadows followed by crossing the stream. You will be initially taking the same route which you took while coming up. Watch your step though as you move downwards, the descent might get really steep gradually. Avoid crossing the trail while it?s raining and be cautious while you cross the same post a shower as the boulders get extremely slippery and one wrong step can lead you to an aggressive fall. The decent is followed by crossing the river and opens towards a beautiful grassland that leads to the Seri campsite.
