After more than half a century of crisscrossing the globe to spread the warm smell of colitas, the Eagles have announced the dates for their final tour . Dubbed “The Long Goodbye,” the trek will feature fellow Rock and Roll Hall of famers Steely Dan opening up the shows, which are slated to kick off Sept. 7 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

“The Eagles have had a miraculous 52-year odyssey, performing for people all over the globe; keeping the music alive in the face of tragic losses, upheavals and setbacks of many kinds,” read a statement from the group. “Credit and thanks go to our longtime management team, our dedicated road crew, and our exceptional backup musicians for providing skilled and steadfast support, throughout these many years. We know how fortunate we are, and we are truly grateful.”

“Our long run has lasted far longer than any of us ever dreamed. But, everything has its time, and the time has come for us to close the circle,” the band continued in its announcement, noting that the farewell run is still in the planning stages, with more dates to be announced at a later time. “We want to give all our fans a chance to see us on this final round… The difficulties of booking venues for multiple nights may require us to return to certain cities, depending on demand.  But, we hope to see as many of you as we can, before we finish up. Most importantly, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for embracing this band and its music. At the end of the day, you are the reason we have been able to carry on for over five decades. This is our swan song, but the music goes on and on.”

For the six new dates added between Jan. 19 and March 13 next year, pre-sale starts on Wednesday, Nov. 1, and general on-sale is Friday, Nov. 3, at 10 a.m. local time.

Eagles Announce ‘Hotel California’ 2022 Tour With Orchestra, Choir

Eagles  have announced an eight-show  Hotel California  2022 tour that will see the band perform the third-best-selling U.S. album in history front-to-back at each stop with an accompanying orchestra and choir. Additionally, the run of Southeast shows will feature a second “Greatest Hits” set.

Surviving Eagles members  Don Henley ,  Joe Walsh , and Timothy B. Schmit  along with Deacon Frey and Vince Gill  will begin the tour on February 19th in Savannah, GA. The tour then travels to neighboring North Carolina for a stop in Charlotte (2/21) before a run of Florida shows with stops in Orlando (2/24), Ft. Lauderdale (2/25), and Tampa (2/28). The Hotel California  tour then doubles back to Raleigh, NC (3/2); and Atlanta, GA (3/4); before wrapping in Austin, TX (5/19).

Back in 2019, the Eagles performed three  Hotel California concerts in Las Vegas to widespread acclaim. Since then, the band has played the album over 30 times in 15 cities across the U.S., with a fall tour that just wrapped last month. These shows will see the remaining band members revisit songs they hadn’t performed live since the initial album tour back in 1976. Following a complete run through the album, there will be a short intermission followed by a “Greatest Hits” set.

Eagles Announce Spring 2022 Tour Dates Playing ‘Hotel California’ in Full

The Eagles have announced an extended slate of concerts for their upcoming spring tour across the United States, where the rock legends will perform their influential 1976 album Hotel California in its entirety, along with an additional set of greatest hits.

And not only will the landmark Eagles album be played in full, it will also be bolstered by an orchestra and 22-piece choir joining the group onstage at each show. The tour leg kicks off on March 17 in Cleveland and covers the country over the next three months. Several 2022 Hotel California dates were announced last year ; more concerts were added just this week.

Surviving Eagles members Don Henley , Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit will join country icon Vince Gill and the late  Glenn Frey 's son, Deacon Frey, for the concerts. Gill and Deacon joined the band after Glenn's death in 2016, splitting his duties across various Eagles hits.

The Eagles originally announced the Hotel California  tour for 2020 after playing a Las Vegas residency devoted to the album in 2019. They did initial shows through February 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic forced them to reschedule most dates .

Hotel California contains the Eagles' signature hit of the same name, of course, in addition to the singles "New Kid in Town," "Life in the Fast Lane" and deep cuts such as "Victim of Love" and "Try and Love Again."

The group, comprising Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit with Deacon Frey and Vince Gill, will play eight new dates in the US from February.

Before the  COVID pandemic, the group had set out plans to return to the UK in the summer of 2021 to bring their ‘Hotel California’ tour to London’s Wembley Stadium  for two nights.

The announcement came after the rockers played the album in its entirety for the first time ever at three sold-out shows in Las Vegas in September of 2019. The show featured 77 musicians on stage, including a 46-piece orchestra and 22-strong choir.

Eagles, alongside  Pearl Jam ,  Guns N’ Roses  and  Green Day , were among the bands  to receive PPP loans from the US federal government’s Paycheck Protection Program during the COVID crisis last year.

The legendary band, Eagle,s has announced a set of upcoming tour dates for 2022 that the group is calling its “Hotel California” 2022 Tour.

The new dates are a continuation of the shows the band played earlier this year on its “Hotel California” 2021 series .

Fans will be treated to a plethora of hits from the Grammy Award-winning, Los Angeles-born band, which will be comprised of frontman Don Henley, guitarist Joe Walsh, bassist Timothy B. Schmit, singer and guitar player Vince Gill, and vocalist Deacon Frey, son of former Eagles singer Glenn Frey.

Tickets go on sale December 3. In total, the band now has eight U.S. dates and five more in Europe. And the group announced the upcoming shows on Facebook , writing:

“Don Henley, Joe Walsh, and Timothy B. Schmit, with Deacon Frey and Vince Gill –announce the band’s ‘Hotel California’ 2022 Tour. Concerts have been set in Savannah, GA; Charlotte, NC; Orlando. The Eagles had previously announced dates overseas, beginning in the Netherlands on June 17 and wrapping in London’s New Hyde Park on June 26, 2022. The band will be joined by an opening act (so to speak) of Hall of Famer Robert Plant and Alison Krauss on the June 26 gig in London.

The  Hotel California  tour came about after the Eagles performed three sold-out  Hotel California  gigs in Las Vegas last year. The show features a full-album performance of the supergroup’s 1976 classic, with the Eagles playing alongside an orchestra and a choir, as well as a second set of the band’s greatest hits.

The Eagles, who are known as one of the best selling bands of all time, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018. The band, which released its self-titled debut album in 1972, is sure to have many fans staying at the proverbial hotel. Check out the live concert footage below.

It’s time to check into the Hotel California again.

The Eagles , who haven’t been on tour since 2018, are going back on the “dark desert highways” of the road in 2022 to play their nine-track “Hotel California” album in its entirety with a full orchestra and choir at each concert.

Following the performance of the iconic record, the soft rockers will reportedly dust off their greatest hits to close out the shows.

The Eagles bring their 'Hotel California' Tour to Des Moines and will play the entire album

When they arrive in Iowa it's hard to say if the Eagles will think "this could be heaven or this could be hell," but there should be plenty of room for fans of the band in Des Moines' Well Fargo Arena.

Classic rock band, the Eagles — famous for hits such as "Hotel California" and "Take It Easy" —  will expand the "Hotel California" Tour to include a stop in Des Moines at 8 p.m. on Nov. 17 at Wells Fargo Arena, 233 Center St.

The tour will include band members Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit, with Vince Gill, who started touring with the band in 2017 after the death of the band's previous guitarist, Glenn Frey.

The band performs its "Hotel California" album in its entirety with a choir and orchestra. After an intermission, the band launches into some of its greatest hits. Previous concerts on this tour brought a 28-sing set that included “One of These Nights,” “Peaceful Easy Feeling,” “Witchy Woman,” “Take It to the Limit” and “Tequila Sunrise” with some Joe Walsh and James Gang songs thrown in for good measure. 

The band previously performed Des Moines in 2018 and before that in 2014 .

Last month saw both one current collaborator and one past member of the Eagles stop in Iowa when  former lead guitarist Don Felder performed the Mason City stop on RAGBRAI  and country artist Vince Gill played the Des Moines Civic Center  less than a week before that.

“I think for me, I don’t sing it, but getting to be a part of 'Desperado' is pretty powerful," Gill told the Des Moines Register in July about his favorite Eagles songs to perform. "That’s the very first song that Glenn and Don (Henley) wrote together.”

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Aug. 19 for the Wells Fargo event and can be found through  hy-veetix.com  and livenation.com .

Eagles Announce 2022 Hotel California Extended Tour Dates

The Eagles – Don Henley, Joe Walsh, and Timothy B. Schmit, with Deacon Frey and Vince Gill – have extended the Hotel California 2022 Tour with even more concert dates being added. Each show will feature the iconic Hotel California album played from beginning to end, accompanied by orchestra and choir, along with an additional set of the band’s greatest hits.

It is common knowledge that founding member Glenn Frey was among the first to incorporate Takamine Guitars' game-changing onboard electronics in live performance. Perhaps less known is that the Eagles choice of Takamine dates well before the 1979 introduction of the Palathetic pickup. The next time the iconic 12-string intro to the classic 1976 studio recording of "Hotel California" wafts your way, know that you are you are listening to a Takamine F385.

49 years after his big break with The Eagles, Jim Ed Norman is on his first tour with them

Nashville music industry giant jim ed norman got his start as an orchestral arranger for the eagles in 1973. he's now touring for the first time ever with the band on their "hotel california" tour..

For a 50-year vet of the music industry, Jim Ed Norman had one heck of a first day. 

In 1973, at age 24, he found himself on the conductor’s rostrum at London’s Olympic Studios. In front of him were the country’s best classical musicians. Behind him, in the control room, were members of what was soon to be one of the biggest bands of all time: The Eagles. 

They were about to record a song called “Desperado.”

“It was the very first thing I'd ever done,” Norman recalls to The Tennessean. “I had a large group of musicians, and I was introduced to each one of those players as they arrived. One of them played cello on (The Beatles') "Yesterday,” and others played in the Queen's Chamber Orchestra. And it wasn't long before I was a nervous wreck.”

As those musicians took their seats, Norman noticed they didn't have headphones. He brought this up to producer Glyn Johns, who responded, "Well, you're going to conduct, aren't you, mate?"

"I guess I am," Norman remembers saying. "Just that day, my life as an arranger, composer and conductor happened all in one fell swoop (laughs)."

In other respects, however, Norman was beyond well-prepared. He'd spent weeks listening to a demo of "Desperado" and writing a lush arrangement that he felt would best serve the lyric and melody. As he began to conduct the musicians, he peeked back at Henley and Johns, and found their "mouths agape."

Norman went on to do arrangements for several more Eagles albums, including "Hotel California," as well as recordings by Linda Ronstadt and Bob Seger — but that was just the beginning.  

By the end of the '70s, he was an in-demand producer, working with Anne Murray on a string of successes. He found his way to Music City, where he joined Warner Bros. Nashville and became president of the label in 1989, guiding the careers of Randy Travis, Faith Hill, Dwight Yoakam and others. 

Norman still producing today, and won his first Grammy in 2021 for his work on the Fisk Jubilee Singers' "Celebrating Fisk!" album.

Right now, he's in the midst of another new experience. He's on tour for the first time in his life — with the band that kickstarted his musical journey.

The Eagles' "Hotel California" tour comes to Nashville's Bridgestone Arena this Thursday and Friday. On this trek, the band is playing their 1976 album "Hotel California" in its entirety, and are doing so with an orchestra and choir. Norman was recruited to update his classic arrangements and conduct the musicians on stage.

From start to finish: What to know about The Eagles 2022 'Hotel California' tour

He had a similar role for a handful of massive Eagles concerts in the 1970s, but the rest of Norman's career was spent largely behind the scenes.

"I never really had a fascination for being on stage," he says. "When people say, oh, gosh, what's it like to be up there? I go, 'Well, it's what goes with what I love doing.'"

Still, it wasn't hard for him to commit to this near-60-date trek: "I started off in this business as a creative person, and I want to have that experience again."

Let's go back to that start: How did a kid from Fort Myers end up conducting symphony musicians in London?

In the late '60s Norman left his native Florida to attend North Texas University, where he made friends with future Eagles founder Don Henley. He joined Henley’s band, Shiloh, and when they made their first and only album with producer Kenny Rogers, Norman wrote an arrangement for a string quartet for one of its songs. 

It wasn’t long before Shiloh had broken up, and Henley, obviously, found a new group of guys to play with. But he didn’t forget about his friend from school. When The Eagles started work on their second album, “Desperado,” he asked Norman to make an orchestral arrangement for its title track.

"Being afforded the opportunity to work on a song is good as 'Desperado,' that taught me early on the idea that you are doing whatever you can to support that song," Norman says. "To be a productive part of bringing that song to life. It isn't to show how many notes you can write."

He carried those principles into subsequent Eagles albums, including "One of These Nights" and "Hotel California." On the latter release, the song "Wasted Time" inspired him to arrange an orchestral reprise, which was recorded in the remaining minutes of a session. That reprise opens up side two of "Hotel California." 

"It's been a great opportunity for me to remind people who are beginning to make their way," Norman says. "...To be able to say, 'Make sure you're doing not only what you're asked to do and need to do, but always (do) a little bit more. And here's why. You might just end up with a piece of music used on a seminal record."

Norman gets to conduct his orchestra through that piece every night on the "Hotel California" tour. But another song has been the highlight of the tour for him.

The moment that I revel in is 'Desperado,' because it is full circle," he says. 

"That is where I started, and here I am now."

Eagles Join Parade of Acts on Final Tours With a ‘Long Goodbye’

The band, which performed a “farewell” tour in 2003, will begin what’s billed as a last run of dates in September.

Eagles are touring for the last time. Again.

The band, whose country-tinged rock hits in the 1970s like “Hotel California” and “Life in the Fast Lane” made it one of the biggest-selling acts of all time, announced the Long Goodbye on Thursday, booked as the group’s final tour.

The tour — featuring the core Eagles members Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit, along with Vince Gill and Deacon Frey (whose father was Glenn Frey, an original Eagle) — is set to open at Madison Square Garden on Sept. 7. That is the first of an initial batch of 13 dates mostly on the East Coast through Nov. 17, with Steely Dan as the opening act. In a statement, the Eagles floated the possibility of longer runs at each venue, saying they would “perform as many shows in each market as their audience demands.” The tour is expected to continue into 2025.

As longtime Eagles fans know, this is not the first time the band has signaled a sunset run. Back in 2003, it embarked on a tour called Farewell I . But there is good reason to believe they may be nearing the end. Glenn Frey, one of the group’s founding members, died in 2016 . Henley, the only member from its founding in 1971 who is still in the band, is 75; in an appearance before a Congressional committee in 2020 about copyright law, he said he was “in the final chapter of my career.” (Or maybe not. Bob Dylan, who is 82, is on a tour planned into 2024 , and the 86-year-old blues guitar hero Buddy Guy is on his own goodbye outing.)

Farewell tours have a way of winding on for years, and can be huge moneymakers. Kiss did its first in 2000 and has had more than a dozen tours since then; its End of the Road Tour started in 2019 and has dates booked through December. Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour began in 2018 and is set to finally conclude this weekend in Sweden, with at least $910 million in ticket sales, according to Billboard.

Among others now on their self-described final tours are Aerosmith, Foreigner, the punk band NOFX and Dead & Company, featuring original members of the Grateful Dead with John Mayer.

In February, the band will kick off a limited eight-date tour in Savannah, Georgia, stopping in Orlando on Feb. 24.

Longtime members Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit, joined by Deacon Frey and Vince Gill, will be backed by an orchestra and choir in performing the third bestselling U.S. album in history.

On the list of albums that have sold more than 20 million copies, “Hotel California” falls just behind Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and the Eagles’ own “Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975),” the bestselling album in U.S. history with a 38-times platinum certification.

On their upcoming tour, the Eagles will perform an additional set with the band’s greatest hits after a brief intermission.

The Eagles have sold more than 150 million albums worldwide and accumulated six Grammy Awards. They were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 and received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2016.

The 2022 concert calendar at Amway Center is shaping up to be a busy one with appearances from Tool, Bad Bunny, Justin Bieber, Journey, Elton John and The Killers all scheduled. In addition, Billy Joel, Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are slated to perform at Camping World Stadium next year.

Tickets for the “Hotel California” 2022 Tour, which start at $96, go on sale at 10 a.m. Dec. 3. A variety of presales begin at 10 a.m. Dec. 2. A limited number of VIP packages are available with premium seats, exclusive merchandise, parking and more.

Eagles’ Long Goodbye Is the Best Farewell Tour You’ll See This Year: Review

Eagles ' Long Goodbye tour might be the least quintessentially rock 'n' roll farewell trek on the market right now. It might also be the best.

It's not often you see a message on the screen before an arena rock show asking audience members to stay seated to not obstruct the view of those behind them. Then again, what else would you expect from a band whom Don Henley joked was once accused of "loitering" onstage?

Eagles did little to dispute that allegation on Saturday during their second consecutive performance at Austin's Moody Center. "There's not gonna be much talking," Henley promised. "No fireworks. No wind machines. No butt-wagging choreography. Just a bunch of guys with guitars."

He wasn't kidding about that last part. At any moment, up to six musicians — Henley,  Joe Walsh ,  Timothy B. Schmit , Vince Gill, Deacon Frey and touring guitarist Steuart Smith — flanked the front of the stage, plucking guitars and delivering sublime vocal harmonies. What Eagles lack in stage presence, they make up for with a bottomless treasure trove of hits, some of which (like "Best of My Love" and "The Long Run") didn't even fit into their two-hour performance.

Why Eagles' Long Goodbye Tour Stands Alone Among Farewell Treks

While many legacy acts have increasingly relied on spectacle to distract from their failing vocals (or  possibly outright fakery ), Eagles continue to do what they've done best for more than 50 years: deliver their songs with near-flawless precision, providing "a two-hour vacation from the madness," as Henley put it. Sure, they've lowered the keys of some tunes — sometimes markedly so — but we should all be so lucky to still possess such supple timbre and steady pitch in our seventies.

The other major distinction between the Long Goodbye tour and similar ventures is Eagles' current touring lineup. Some purists may balk at the notion of an Eagles tour without late co-founder Glenn Frey , but it's difficult to imagine better replacements than Gill and Deacon Frey. The former is a fleet-fingered guitarist and brilliant vocalist, tackling the soaring high notes of "Take It to the Limit" with ease. And it's difficult to overstate the grace with which Frey has stepped into his father's shoes, emulating his voice with haunting accuracy while putting some much-needed pep in these boomers' steps. Replacing a key band member is never easy, but by delegating these roles to family and friends, Eagles continue to do justice to their catalog while honoring their legacy in a way that no anonymous hired gun could.

But enough of that woo-woo stuff. If it's rock you want, Walsh is your man. "I had some wonderful times in Austin — according to the police report," he joked on Saturday before one of several howling electric guitar showcases. He shredded through James Gang 's "Funk #49," sent talkbox shockwaves through the arena on "Rocky Mountain Way" and ripped the epochal "Hotel California" solo alongside Smith with the poise and finesse of a classical musician. For decades, Walsh was the epitome of a hard-living rock star, but he still sings capably and plays with stunning clarity.

Steely Dan Is the Perfect Opening Act

It's no small feat warming up an audience for a show of this caliber, but Eagles have picked the perfect tour mates in Steely Dan .  Donald Fagen has dutifully kept the band alive since Walter Becker 's death , and on Saturday he led his cohort of world-class musicians through a hit-filled power hour that dazzled on a technical level, from the drum and saxophone solos on "Aja" to the blistering dueling guitars of "Reelin' in the Years." Both of these bands have always prioritized top-notch songwriting and musicianship, and the Long Goodbye tour is a celebration of both technical excellence and generation-defining songbooks. This road trip might not have any frills, but it also has no pretense — just three hours of stone-cold classics played with peerless precision. One day this kind of tour will be a distant memory, so get it while you can.

Founded in Los Angeles in 1971, the original members of the Eagles consisted of Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon, and Randy Meisner. During the 1970s, they evolved to become one of the most successful bands of their time with five No.1 singles and six No.1 albums, along with numerous Grammy and American Music Awards. Having sold over 200 million records worldwide, they are one of the best-selling bands of all time.

While most people know their hit songs, not everyone actually knows what was going on behind the scenes. Keep reading on to learn some lesser-known facts about the band and leave a comment if you learned something new about these classic rock stars! Let's take a closer look at this iconic group.

They Reunited Thanks To Travis Tritt

When the band broke up in 1980, each of the members went their separate ways as their relationships had fallen apart, with each of them swearing they would never get back together. It was so messy that Fey refused to speak to anyone and Don Henley stated that they would only reunite "when hell freezes over."

However, in 1994, the group was invited by country singer Travis Tritt to be in the music video for his cover of the group's "Take it easy," which resulted in the band reuniting. The next album they released was titled "Hell Freezes Over."

Deacon Frey Filled His Father's Shoes

Unfortunately, after Glenn Frey passed away in January 2016, the band wasn't sure if they would perform again. The idea of replacing Frey just seemed wrong as he was an original founder and had fronted the group for so many years.

However, Frey's son Deacon stepped up to the plate and filled his father's shoes, playing in front of a crowd of 55,000 in July 2017. He has continued to play with the band since. Although nobody can replace Glenn Frey, people have been impressed with his son's skills and the similarity in their voices and demeanor.

The Band Didn't Want To Release Greatest Hits

Initially, the band was completely against the idea of releasing their album Greatest Hits, something that was proposed to them by their record label. They didn't like the idea of releasing something before Hotel California just to make some extra money, but the record label insisted.

In the end, Greatest Hits turned out to be the most successful album of their career and the highest-selling album of the 20th century in the United States. It held the position of the biggest seller of all time until it was taken over by Michael Jackson's Thriller after his death in 2009.

They Weren't A True California Band

Even though the Eagles were classified as a West Coast group with one of their most popular albums being titled Hotel California, they weren't actually from California. Only one of the members, Tony B. Schmidt was from the state who was an Oakland native.

Out of the founders, Glen Frey was from Michigan, Don Henley was from Texas, Bernie Leadon was from Minnesota, and Randall Meisner was from Nebraska. Yet, the group managed to built and uphold their California image throughout the band's extensive career.

"Life In The Fast Lane" Was Inspired By A 90-Mile An Hour Conversation With A Drug Dealer

The Eagles certainly lived the rock and roll lifestyle, with their experiences being the inspiration and subjects for many of their songs. This was the case for "Life in the Fast Lane," which was inspired by a conversation between Glenn Frey and his drug dealer flying down the highway.

Frey recalled in the documentary The History of the Eagles, " was riding shotgun in a Corvette with a dealer on the way to a poker game [...] The next thing I know we're doing 90. Holding! Big Time! I say, 'Hey, man!’ He grins and goes, ‘Life in the fast lane!’ I thought, ‘Now there’s a song title.'" The rest is history.

They Raised The Bar For Arena Ticket Sales

The band reunited in 1994 after a 14-year hiatus and it was clear that they still had a strong fan base that was willing to pay a pretty penny to see them play. As a result, during their "Hell Freezes Over" tour that same year, they became the first group to ever sell arena tickets for over $100.

Noticing that people were willing to pay that amount of money to see a band, other groups such as the Rolling Stones began to raise their prices as well.

Don Henley Brought His Own Mattress On The Hotel California Tour

When on the road, especially with intense touring schedules, it's not unusual for performers to go to great lengths to make themselves as comfortable as possible. According to Joe Berry, the band's head electrician, Don Henley "Insisted on having a king-size bed and mattress available at all times, which the crew had to drag around everywhere."

The tour seamstresses even designed a cover for it so it could be packed and unloaded with ease. Henley explained, "Hotel mattresses are awful [...] So I brought my own mattresses and had it trucked around with the equipment." Unfortunately, the mattress was never used.

Glenn Frey Obeyed His Mother, Kind Of

Back when he was a young man, Glenn Frey, who was originally supposed to be the band's bass player but became the vocalist and guitarist, was caught by his mother smoking marijuana with his friend.

Upon being discovered, she then forbade him from ever joining a rock band, for fear that it would only perpetuate that kind of behavior. Well, Frey obeyed his mother and two years later became a founding member of the Eagles. Technically, he never joined a rock band.

They Had A Failed Lawsuit

In 2001, the band sued the American Eagle Foundation for using the domain name, eagles.org, as well as the phone number (800)2-EAGLES. They also sued the organization's American Eagle Records compact disk and video distribution label claiming that it caused confusion for the public.

However, the organization fought back claiming that the eagle has been a symbol of the nation for hundreds of years and that tens of thousands of companies have the word "eagles" in their name. In the end, the lawsuit was dropped after the band failed to appear in court multiple times.

Linda Ronstadt Indirectly Helped Form The Band

Back in 1971, Linda Ronstadt and her then-manager John Boylan recruited Glenn Frey and Don Henley to play in her band. The two had met in 1970 at the Troubadour in Los Angeles and became friends through their mutual record label, Amos Records. While on tour, Frey and Henley made the decision to form their own band and approached Ronstadt about their decision.

She agreed and even suggested that they recruit Bernie Leadon into their new group. She even arranged for Leadon to play for her so Frey and Henley could approach him about their idea, acquiring Randy Meisner in the process.

Randy Meisner Abruptly Left The Band

Randy Meisner, a founding member of Eagles and usual bassist and backup vocalist of the band had a hard time towards the end of his career with Eagles. He recalls that he felt he had been isolated from the band and "That was the end... I really felt like I was a member of the group, not a part of it."

On top of that, after 11 months of nonstop touring for Hotel California, he suddenly left after the 1977 tour. He had been suffering from severe stomach ulcers from the stress and the band had become hostile.

Joe Walsh Gave The Band A New Sound

One of These Nights was the last album that featured founding member Bernie Leadon. At that point, he had become uninterested in the direction that the group's music was heading and was frequently butting heads with Frey. On December 20, 1975, it was announced that Leadon had left the group.

He was then replaced by guitarist Joe Walsh who had a background in hard rock playing in The James Gang who had released four albums, with two of them going gold. He helped add an edgier sound to the Eagles, helping write famous tracks such as "Hotel California" and "The Long Run."

Frey Had An Acting Career

On top of his time with Eagles and as a solo artist, Frey also dabbled in acting. He was a guest star on the show Miami Vice in the first-season episode "Smuggler's Blues," as well as a starring role in the Wiseguy series episodes "Dead Dog Arc."

In addition, he was the star of the show South of Sunset, although it was canceled after just one episode. His first appearance in a film was starring in Let's Get Harry and he even had a small role in Cameron Crowe's Jerry McGuire.

The Original Title For "Hotel California" Was "Mexican Reggae"

Although "Hotel California" has become associated with the darker side of Los Angeles, the creation of the song took place at a beach house in Malibu that Don Felder had rented. He recalled , "I remember sitting in the living room on a spectacular July day with the doors wide open [...] . I had this acoustic 12-string and started tinkling around with it, and those 'Hotel California' chords just kind of oozed out."

He wasn't sure if it would fit with the band's sound because he thought it sounded kind of reggae, especially after adding some Latin-style percussion. Therefore, "Mexican Reggae" was the song's working title until the lyrics were finished.

Inspiration For The Name

Performing in 1971, the group still didn't have an official name and played under Teen King and the Emergencies for the first time in Aspen. Supposedly, the name the "Eagles" was conceived during a peyote and tequila filled group out in the Mojave Desert.

Another account suggests that the group came up with the name when Glenn Fry shouted, "Eagles!" when he saw them flying above. In actor/musicians Steve Martin's autobiography, he recalls suggesting that they call the band "the Eagles," but Glenn Frey was adamant that the group was just "Eagles."

Don Felder Sued The Band

Don Henley, Glenn Frey, and Don Felder were the three official owners of the group, which at the time existed as a corporate entity known as Eagles, Ltd.

However, Felder claimed that the three other members specifically left him out of the decision-making process for "asking too many questions," and was fired in 2001. This resulted in Felder suing Henley and Frey although they settled out of court for an amount that is still not disclosed.

A Producer Wanted To Turn "Hotel California" Into A Movie

Renowned producer, Julia Phillips, was the first female producer to win an Academy Award for the Paul Newman and Robert Redford film The Sting. She also produced Taxi Driver and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and by the end of the 70s, she was interested to see what she could do with "Hotel California."

However, it became difficult to work with the band as she describes in her book, You'll Never Eat Lunch Here Again, and the deal fell through. The band wasn't bummed, however, as they didn't trust the film business in the first place.

There's A New Hotel California Tour In The Works

In October 2019, the Eagles announced their plans to set off on a nationwide tour in 2020 in which they will play the entire track list of Hotel California from start to finish. The tour will begin in Atlanta in February 2020 and will be traveling to cities such as New York, Dallas, Houston, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.

The group will consist of Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmidt, and the late Glenn Frey's son, Deacon. Joining them is country musician Vince Gill as well as a live orchestra and choir.

The Eagles are in the middle of what may very well be the band’s final concert tour. As the group prepares to play more shows to huge crowds throughout Europe, their latest album has become another hit for the band–one that’s brought them back into the highest reaches of several Billboard charts.

This week, the Eagles hit the top 10 on three different tallies. The band debuts their latest project To The Limit: The Essential Collection inside the loftiest region on a trio of rosters, showing that there’s still intense interest in their music, even after decades together.

To The Limit debuts highest on the Top Rock Albums. On that ranking of the most-consumed rock full-lengths and EPs in the U.S., the new set from the Eagles opens at No. 6.

The same compilation starts at No. 8 on a very similar list, the Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart. As its name suggests, that roster includes both pure rock and pure alternative titles, and it also focuses on total consumption of all eligible projects.

The Eagles come in just one rung lower on the Top Album Sales chart. To The Limit opens at No. 9 on that ranking of the bestselling efforts in America. According to Luminate, the latest offering from the band arrives with 6,987 copies purchased.

To The Limit marks the fifth top 10 for the Eagles on all three of those charts. On the genre-specific lists, the new release brings the band their first new win inside that tier since 2020. On the Top Album Sales chart, they reached the top 10 just last year.

The latest from the Eagles also manages to debut on the Billboard 200. That chart ranks all of the 200 most-consumed albums in the country, regardless of how long they’ve been around or what style of music they fit under. On that list, To The Limit launches at No. 30, earning one of the highest starts of the week. The set moved 22,115 equivalent units in its first seven days of availability.
