There are two different car safari routes. Halfway through, you can catch your breath at the Kongo Restaurant while enjoying a bite to eat and something to drink, before moving on to admire the rest of our stunning and expansive natural environs.

Niets is avontuurlijker dan zelf een 4×4 te huren en door het uitgestrekte Afrikaanse landschap te rijden. Zuidelijk Afrika is de perfecte bestemming om op eigen houtje met een huurauto te verkennen. Er zijn volop prachtige, goed onderhouden kampeerterreinen en met een stoere 4WD kun je in eigen tempo de wildparken verkennen. Wat is nou leuker dan vanuit je eigen tent op het dak naar de wilde dieren te kijken? Maar ook een lodge of self catering accommodatiereis is mogelijk.

4×4 ligt hoger op de weg

Rijden in een stoere en robuuste 4WD is een ervaring op zich. Voor Namibië, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe en Mozambique adviseren we echt een 4×4 die hoger op de weg ligt zodat je veiliger en comfortabeler rijdt. Het verkennen van wildparken en slapen in een tent op het dak van je eigen auto op enkele meters van de wilde dieren midden in de bush is een onvergetelijke ervaring.

Op zoek naar meer comfort?

Dan is een self catering of Bed&Breakfast reis ideaal. Luxe safari lodges, boutique hotels, alles kan. Een 4×4 zonder kampeeruitrusting is dan de meest confortabele manier van reizen. Op verzoek voegen we een koelkastje of koelbox toe. We bespreken graag de mogelijkheden!

Hotel Pickup

Het voertuig wordt bij de accommodatie of gewenste luchthaven afgegeven mits deze op maximaal 20 km van het depot liggen. Soms word je bij je accommodatie of luchthaven opgehaald en naar het depot gebracht. Deze service is gratis mits de afstand binnen de 20 km valt. Anders komt er een kleine toeslag bij. Bij aflevering krijg je uitgebreide instructies over de 4×4. Deze uitleg zal ongeveer twee uur in beslag nemen. Eventuele extra bagage kan op de depots gratis worden opgeslagen!

Individuele rondreis met een 4×4

Huur bij African Travels een betrouwbare en voordelige 4WD / 4X4 auto! We werken samen met zorgvuldig gekozen kleinschalige partners. Dus kom je straks vast te zitten, haal je de camping niet voor donker, wij helpen je uit eerste hand. Geen groot call center maar onze eigen mensen lokaal op de grond. De meeste aangeboden 4×4 auto’s zijn beschikbaar met of zonder complete kampeeruitrusting voor 2-4/5 personen. Naast auto’s met tenten bieden wij ook diverse campers aan. Vooraf ontvang je van ons een complete lijst met alle campings in Zuidelijk Afrika. De meeste mensen stippelen graag zelf hun eigen route uit en vragen ons om feedback over de afstanden. Uiteraard kunnen we ook voorbeeld routes aan je mailen. Omdat we zelf jarenlang in Zimbabwe hebben gewoond, vele 4×4 reizen hebben gemaakt door Zuidelijk Afrika, krijg je advies uit eerste hand! Wees je er wel van bewust dat je een band moet kunnen wisselen, dat grensovergangen een bureaucratisch proces is en dat een 4×4 huurauto met tent op het dak niet per definitie de voordeligste manier is om Afrika te ontdekken.

Om onze zelfstandige reizigers beter te kunnen helpen hebben we een handige tool ontworpen die ideaal is voor de beginfase van de zoektocht naar de ultieme reis naar Afrika! Vertrek en eindpunt

De volgende vertrek en eindpunten zijn beschikbaar en worden aangegeven in volgorde van populariteit. Wanneer het eindpunt afwijkt van het beginpunt komen er extra kosten bij (eenrichtingstoeslag (one way fee). Johannesburg, Windhoek, Kaapstad, Victoria Falls, Kasane, Maun, Livingstone, Durban, East Londen, Port-Elizabeth, Maputo, Vilanculous.

Cross Border Fee

Reis je door meerdere landen dan komen er extra kosten bij voor de documenten om de auto over de grens te kunnen meenemen (Cross Border Fee). De 4×4 auto’s met kampeeruitrusting zijn volledig uitgerust met daktenten, kampeerstoelen en tafel, kooktoestel, kookgerei, bestek, kussens, slaapzak, handdoeken, koelbox, watertank, benzinetank a 140L e.a.

Wegen- en grensbeperkingen

Alle 4WD’s zijn toegestaan op de publieke asfaltwegen en op de publieke erkende 4×4 tracks in Zuid-Afrika, Lesotho, Swaziland, Namibië, Botswana, Mozambique en Zimbabwe (tot Harare). Speciale toestemming van de verhuurder is vereist voor het verlaten van het wegennet en voor het gebruik van de 4WD in andere landen. Je dient dit bij boeking aan te geven, zodat de juiste grenspapieren bij het ophalen van de auto voor je klaarliggen.

Huurprijs is inclusief

Standaard verzekering met eigen risico (All inclusive verzekering zonder eigen risico op aanvraag); Volledige (kampeer)uitrusting (n.v.t. bij SUV’s of 4×4 zonder kampeeruitrusting); Extra diesel en/of water tanks (n.v.t. bij SUV’s of 4×4 zonder kampeeruitrusting); Onbeperkte kilometers; 2 bestuurders, extra bestuurders tegen kleine bijbetaling; Reservewielen; Wegenwachtservice 24/7; Voertuig is nooit ouder dan 3 jaar; Wegenbelastingen.

Standaard dekking met eigen risico

Deze dekking draagt een eigen risico van ZAR/N$ 45,000.00, (richtprijs, het verschilt per bestemming) die in het geval van een ongeval of schade aan zowel ons voertuig of eigendom van derden van toepassing is. Dit eigen risico van ZAR/N$ 45,000.00 wordt vooraf van toestemming van de huurder op een Visa of Master Card geblokkeerd op het moment van aanvang. Er wordt geld ingehouden wanneer de huurder het voertuig in een beschadigde toestand retourneert of door schade van een derde partij. Als er geen vorderingen bestaan, wordt de borg op de creditcard vrijgegeven en is het bedrag binnen 21-30 werkdagen vanaf de datum van terugkeer weer beschikbaar. De standaarddekking dekt reparatiekosten of vervanging van banden en voorruiten.

Super Cover Verzekering

Er wordt een aanvullend dagtarief berekend aan de offerte. Met een Super Cover verzekering vermindert het eigen risico en is elke materiële schade aan het voertuig door jezelf of door derden gedekt. Ook het vervangen of repareren van voorruiten en banden (inclusief reparaties), radio diefstal, overhead schade en invorderingskosten. Een borg van R/N$3000/NAD5000 (tarief verschilt per locatie) is verschuldigd op het moment van de pick-up om ervoor te zorgen dat het voertuig terug naar de afgesproken locatie, op de afgesproken datum in een schone toestand en met een lege toilet cassette en afvalwatertank en zonder missende items of beschadigde elementen. Dit bedrag wordt met goedkeuring van de klant geblokkeerd op een Visa of MasterCard op het moment van de collectie. Het vervangen van een koppeling of schade door nalatigheid van de huurder wordt niet gedekt door de verzekering. Na drie dagen na het terugbrengen van de huurauto wordt het bedrag van R/N$3000 vrijgegeven als alles in orde is. Deze borg wordt volledig terugbetaald binnen 21-30 werkdagen na datum van terugkeer, wanneer alle voorwaarden zijn nageleefd. Roll overs (wanneer je over de kop gaat) zijn NOOIT meeverzekerd. Om in zulke situaties volledig gedekt te zijn adviseren wij om ook in Nederland/België een dekking af te sluiten, zoals de volgende:

Eigen Risico Autoverzekering

Deze verzekering dekt in geval van schade aan de huurauto, -motor of -camper het eigen risico én de ingehouden borg. Een ideale verzekering voor een onbezorgde (auto)vakantie. Lees meer op Allianz . Neem eventueel voor de beste dekking contact op met http://www.huurautopolis.nl/aanvullende-verzekering-huurcamper. Een 4×4 met tenten op het dak valt onder huurcampers.

Als huurder ben je verantwoordelijk voor de banden. Rijd niet harder dan 100 km/uur, want dan worden de banden te heet. Zorg bij het verwisselen van de banden dat je hetzelfde merk en dezelfde maat gebruikt. We raden je aan om geregeld de bandendruk te checken tijdens de reis.

Wanneer je met tolwegen te maken hebt (afhankelijk van je route) dan ontvang je van ons een tolpasje. We raden echter altijd aan om bij een tolpost een poortje te kiezen waarbij je zowel met als zonder lidmaatschap kunt betalen. Soms faalt het systeem en heb je een hele rij achter je. Wanneer je pasje niet werkt, schiet dan de kosten voor en bij het inleveren van de auto krijg je de kosten retour.

Welke l anden ?

Wij verhuren 4×4 in de landen Zuid-Afrika, Namibië, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique en Malawi! We verhuren geen losse normale personenauto’s voor Zuid-Afrika. We boeken ze alleen in combinatie met accommodaties.

Camping en lodge reserveringen

African Travels kan alle of een gedeelte van de accommodaties reserveren en helpen om de route uit te stippelen. We houden daarmee altijd rekening met je wensen zodat het binnen je budget past. Campings zijn al beschikbaar vanaf €15 per nacht, self catering chalets vanaf €40 en lodges voor iets meer. Wanneer wij de campings, lodges of hotels reserveren (mag ook een combinatie) ontvang je een persoonlijke routeplanning en App waarbij je ook offline toegang hebt tot je route, adressen en telefoonnummers. African Travels adviseert vooral om vooraf al een goede wegenkaart aan te schaffen via bijvoorbeeld: https://www.dezwerver.nl/r/afrika/ . Bij de auto krijg je een gratis wegenkaart maar die is niet erg gedetailleerd en campings worden er niet op vermeld. Alle campings en benzinestations staan ook vermeld op https://tracks4africa.co.za/maps/africa/ . Wil je een GPS met deze kaart, voeg dan een tracks4Africa gps toe aan je boeking.

Satelliettelefoon

Het lokale mobiele telefoonnetwerk dekt ongeveer 30% van de oppervlakte van Namibië. De Iridium Satelliet telefoon biedt ongelimiteerde communicatie vanaf enige afgelegen plek in zuidelijke Afrika, waar geen normaal mobiel telefoonverkeer mogelijk is en dit is wel zo veilig, aangezien de kans klein is, maar men nooit precies weet wanneer men onverhoopt in een noodsituatie terecht komt. De telefoon komt samen met een handige waterdichte draagkoffer en zowel een 220v als een 12v oplader. (Eigen risico in geval van verlies, diefstal of beschadiging is €200) Geadviseerd wordt om vooraf te boeken.

GPS met Tracks4Africa

Met het Garmin GPS Navigatie Systeem de gedetailleerde digitale wegenkaarten van Tracks4Africa rijdt je probleemloos en zonder de weg kwijt te raken door alle landen van Zuidelijk Afrika, zowel off-road als op de weg. Met gemakkelijk te gebruiken ‘touch-screen’ dat zowel afstanden en aankomsttijd aangeeft. 4 Ways to Refresh Webpages in Safari on iPhone, iPad, and Mac

But once the page finishes loading, all the information displayed usually remains static, even if it has changed or refreshed in the backend. To access the latest information, you can refresh all those web pages in Safari.

Refreshing webpages help update the current information on your screen. And while you can use the Cmd + Option + R shortcut to hard refresh (force reload) or clear all the cache in Safari separately, what if you want to reload the page? Is there an option or shortcut? Let’s find out.

How to Refresh Webpages in Safari on iPhone and iPad

When using Safari on your iPhone or iPad, use the Reload icon to reload a page. Or, if your device is updated, use the pull-to-refresh option. You can also use keyboard shortcuts, if available. Or, force the browser to close and restart. Thus, reloading the page in the process. Here’s a step-by-step look for clarity.

1. Using the Address Bar

Step 1: Depending on your device’s settings, go to the address bar at the top or bottom of the page in Safari.

Step 2: Here, tap on the Reload icon.

Wait for the page to finish reloading. If the address bar is not visible, use your finger to move the page up or down. Once you see it, tap on the Reload icon accordingly. This will reload the page in Safari.

2. Through the Pull-to-Refresh Feature

If your iPhone runs iOS 15 or higher, you can use the pull-to-refresh option. Using this, you can pull the webpage down and wait for it to refresh and reload.

Step 1: Go to the relevant tab in Safari.

Step 2: Now, hold and pull down from the top half of the page. Release the page once you see the reload icon appear.

Once you release the page, it should automatically refresh all the information. If this doesn’t work, check your device’s software version and try again.

3. Using a Keyboard Shortcut

As long as you have a compatible wireless keyboard , you can connect it to your iPhone or iPad via Bluetooth . This can not only aid in typing but also allow you to use keyboard shortcuts on your Apple device. Then, use the Cmd + R shortcut on the wireless keyboard and reload the page without touching the screen.

4. Force Close and Restart Safari

If you can’t use the abovementioned methods, force Safari to close altogether on your iPhone or iPad. This can help solve any glitches with the browser as well. Once the browser reopens, it should refresh the page as well. Here’s how.

Step 1: Swipe up from the bottom of the page to open background apps. Or, if your device has a Home button, double-press it.

Step 2: Once the background apps are visible, hold and swipe up on Safari.

Step 3: Now, tap on the Safari app icon to reopen the browser.

Once Safari opens, the page should also reopen in the designated tab. If that doesn’t happen, use the address bar or search history to reopen the page in Safari.

How to Refresh Safari Webpages on Your Mac

Like refreshing Safari webpages on your iPhone or iPad, you can also reload a page on your Mac. To do this, use the refresh button in Safari, menu options, or the keyboard shortcut. Or, if this doesn’t work, force Safari to close and reload. This will not only restart all browser functions but also reload the page. Here’s how to do it.

1. Through the Reload Icon

Step 1: Go to the Safari address bar and click on the Reload icon.

Once the page reloads, any related issue should be resolved as your browser fetches a fresh copy of the page.

2. Using Menu Options

Step 1: Once Safari is open, go to the menu bar and click on View.

Step 2: Here, click on Reload Page. Wait for the page to refresh.

3. Using Keyboard Shortcut

While you must connect a keyboard to your iPad or iPhone, your Mac already has one. Taking advantage of this, use the Cmd + R keys to reload the currently open page in Safari quickly. Or, if you want to reload the page without cache, hold down the Shift key on the keyboard and click the Reload icon in Safari.

4. Closing and Reopening Safari

Step 1: Go to the menu options and click on the Apple icon. Then, click on Force Quit.

Step 2: From the list of apps, select Safari.

Step 3: Then, click on Force Quit. Wait for Safari to close.

Step 4: Now, click on the Safari app icon to open the browser again.

If the webpage isn’t open, type the website address in the menu bar or open it from the device history. The web page information should be refreshed.

The recipe is fairly simple: take an orthodox car, add unorthodox ground clearance, all-terrain tires, and hit the dirt.

Inspired by the East African Safari, and in particular, the Martini liveried Porsche 911s that took part in 1978, the popularity of the ‘Safari Build’ continues to climb to heady new heights. While specialists like Leh Keen and Richard Tuthill craft best-in-class offroad Porsche platforms ranging from FIA legal rally cars to the creative and conceptual, the craze has been seeing enthusiast-built projects surface left and right.

Although the Porsche 911 is the most prominent platform, the off-road road car concept can be applied to just about anything. With a splash of Group B and a pinch of Baja 1000, there are a few people who have diverged from the traditional path to create some truly unique vehicles. Perhaps the genre's newfound popularity is due in part to our eagerness to get out of our homes and into the wild following the pandemic restrictions, or, perhaps we feel the need to flee the heavy traffic of our crowded city streets. Either way, it looks like the Safari build is here to stay.

We scanned the interwebs and Instagram to find some of our favorite builds which you can browse and follow below:

Alfa Romeo GTV: Dropped Alfa

Moving a little off-piste, I’d like to introduce you to the ‘Dropped Alfa’, a 1974 Alfa Romeo GTV aptly named after it fell off the back of a truck while in transport. Prior to being ‘dropped’ this Alfa Romeo was built for carving the canyons outside LA. After the drop, it remained badly beaten until brothers Iliya and Nikita Bridan, of Oil Stain Lab , came up with a plan for its reincarnation.

The twins, who both work as designers, discussed many potential plans but settled on a Safari build, after all, they couldn’t damage it any further by taking it off-road. The Alfa lent itself surprisingly well to the conversion. Lifting the suspension proved to be straight forward and the body could accommodate large tires without modification. The tuned engine is better suited to blasting through the desert than climbing steep trails. The car was developed over time but proved so popular that it led them to construct a follow-up Safari build. 

I Am Detailing's BMW E30 325ix

Expert car detailer Jakub Marek spends his days preparing some of the world's most special cars for premier concours displays. In his free time, he does the exact opposite. After owning over 20 BMW 3-series, he took this 325ix almost completely apart and built it into a off-road capable machine for the Gambler 500 in less than a week (yes you read that correctly). This included making a custom skid plate on front to protect oil cooler and oil pan for the upcoming event.

After servicing the engine and brakes and adding 27/8.5-14 tires, Jakub proceeded to drive the car from LA to Oregon just in time for said Gambler 500 event and the car performed flawlessly.

Alfa Romeo GTV6: Aether Alpine Alfa

Following the success of Dropped Alfa, the Bridan brothers were commissioned by Aether Apparel to build another Safari car. Aether wanted something unique and discussed many potential platforms including a Porsche 968, but the decision was made upon the discovery of a low mileage Alfa Romeo GTV6. Work began immediately. Concept drawings were realized in 3D while they attended to the Alfas electrics and mechanicals.

The rear suspension of the GTV6 is a complex affair with de Dion tube, trailing arms, inboard disc brakes, and a 5-speed transaxle. A simple lift wasn’t going to be possible. The rear end was 3D scanned so components could be designed and manufactured to lift it properly while retaining the correct geometry. The results are simply exquisite, a properly engineered car that can handle off-road with an equally arresting aesthetic that complements Giugiaro’s original design.
