Mexico’s love affair with the Iron Maiden, concert dates announced

iron maiden tour mexico

“Iron Maiden returns to Mexico.” The news set fire to the headlines of various media and portals, not only in Mexico but also in other parts of the world, which dedicate some space to the dissemination of Heavy Metal, aware of the affection that the English band has for its fans. Mexicans.

Personalities such as the band’s manager, Rod Smallwood, or Bruce Dickinson himself, have stated, on various occasions, that they enjoy playing in Mexico, for them, it is a pleasure to do so since they consider that their audience is incredible; They show their admiration and fervor in a brutal way, making them feel welcome, in the broad sense of the word.

Iron Maiden: este sería el setlist que integraría el nuevo disco en vivo grabado en México

But this endearing Maiden-Mexico relationship is not new, it dates back to 1983, that is, 38 years ago – throw it out, the band is 46 years old – when Steve Harris and Adrian Smith visited us to promote the album  Piece of Mind . At that time, the English had only three studio albums:  Iron Maiden  (1980),  Killers  (1981) and  The Number of the Beast  (1982), but their appeal was such that the passion of their followers overflowed and generated some setbacks on his first visit to Mexico.

For this reason, it is not surprising that the band made up of Steve Harris on bass, Dave Murray, Adrian Smith and Janick Gers on guitars, Nicko McBrain on drums and Bruce Dickinson on vocals, has chosen our country to start their world tour  Legacy of the Beast 2022 , (then they will visit the United States and Canada), appearing on September 7, 2022, at the Foro Sol.

But let’s go back to 1992. The Palacio de los Deportes, in the extinct Federal District, today Mexico City, received for the first time the hosts of the Iron Maiden, in a memorable concert held on October 1, as part of its  Fear of the Dark World Tour,  with which they promoted their self-titled album; two dates were added.

At that time, those who will remember the band’s visit caused controversy in the most conservative sectors of the country, as they alleged that it was a “satanic” group; more diabolical was the resumption of diplomatic relations between Mexico and the Vatican that same year.

Iron Maiden añade segunda fecha en México – El Financiero

It took nine years for them to return to the country, headlining the 2001  Headbanger’s Fest , alongside progressives Queensryche and legend Halford. As part of the  Brave New World  tour, the band deployed their sound power in a new space: Foro Sol, since the Copper Dome was already insufficient for their army of followers.

The rain hit that concert, which did not prevent the fans from showing their love for the group, even Nicko McBrain recognized the fidelity and energy of those present, who were not intimidated by the scourge of Tláloc and gave their all in that chance.

In 2009, the Foro Sol received the band again, now in a kind of mini-festival that included Lauren Harris, Steve’s daughter; the Americans Atreyu, their compatriots, the death metal Morbid Angel and the British masters, Carcass. As part of their  Somewhere Back in Time  world tour, the group visited Monterrey and Guadalajara; part of those  shows  were captured in the documentary  Flight 666 .

For the  Final Frontier World Tour , in 2011, the English group offered two  shows , on March 17 in Monterrey and on March 18 at the Foro Sol de la capirucha. Later and with the American masters of Thrash Metal, Slayer, and with the Swedish Ghost as guests, they returned to Mexico in 2013, to perform on September 17 at the Foro Sol, as part of their  Maiden England  tour, where they revived the stage of their 1988 concert, which was part of the  Seventh Son Tour .

In 2016, Iron Maiden began its gigantic world tour  The Book of Souls  in Mexico, with one concert in Monterrey and two in CDMX. It is worth highlighting the album that gave name to this tour and its relationship with the Mayan culture, as well as two other curious events that occurred during his visit: the reception that the band had by a high official of the Peña Miento government, who , with his records in hand, he welcomed the Maidens just got off Ed Force One and the fact that a security person at the hotel where the group was staying, mistook Nicko for a homeless man and did not let him in.

Iron Maiden en México con su tour 'Legacy of the Beast'

Recently, in 2019, the English group returned to our country, as part of its  Legacy of the Beast tour , to delight us with three presentations: September 27, 29 and 30, at the Palacio de los Deportes.  Shows  that make up the live album  Nights of The Dead ,  Legacy of the Beast: Live in Mexico City , which they released on November 20, 2020 and which has Eddie the Head as a cover with a charro suit and on his back, the capital’s cathedral with elements related to the Day of the Dead and the Mexican Revolution.

This double album, which features songs never before recorded on a live album, has a limited edition with a book and an Iron Maiden flag in the colors of Mexico, as well as another version with green, white and red vinyl.

This love for the Maidens is also reflected in what Mexicans listen to, because according to Iron Maiden’s profile on Spotify, Mexico City is among the top three cities in the world that, monthly, listen to the songs of La Doncella de Iron.

Iron Maiden returns to CDMX! All the details of his concert at Foro Sol

Ocesa  reported on social networks that the group led by  Bruce Dickinson  and  Steve Harris will  be presented in the country’s capital on  September 7 , 2022.

The presentation of the monumental concert will take place at the  Foro Sol  and will be part of the Legacy of the Beast World Tour 22.

No, they are not misreading! Iron Maiden will arrive at CDMX to make the Foro Sol vibrate! It is better that you get ready to listen to this legend of  heavy metal again , on September 7, “wrote the organizer of the concert.

The pre-sale, exclusively for  Citibanamex  cardholders, will be on December 6 and 7.

And although it is a group that usually comes constantly to Mexico, the COVID-19  pandemic  delayed their return

It should be remembered that this same year, the  Iron Maiden  released her 17th studio album under the name  Senjutsu  .

So this new tour is part of the promotion of the new material. In addition to playing the classic songs that placed the group on the pinnacle of  metal .

30 shows added to an updated Legacy of the Beast 2022 world tour in America, Canada, Mexico & Europe! Critically acclaimed show to be even more spectacular with the addition of a whole new world around Senjutsu. As if that were not enough, in 2020, the English combo launched  Trooper. Day of the Dead , a limited edition of his beer, whose drawing of Eddie is inspired by the cover of the album  No Prayer for the Dying  (1990) and the celebration of the Day of the Dead. Comments and more to:  @ADazVega  or FB:  AbrahamDV  .

Why are Iron Maiden so big in Mexico?

Iron Maiden's maverick manager on making it in Mexico

Bruce Dickinson Iron Maiden live singing

Iron Maiden kicked off their gigantic Book Of Souls world tour in Mexico, but just why are Maiden so beloved in Central America? We talk to their manager Rod Smallwood to find out!

Why do Iron Maiden come to Mexico so often?

“We have been to Mexico five times in the last eight years! We do enjoy coming here – the audience is just unbelievable, and it’s always been a pleasure coming here, and we’ve always been made to feel very welcome. Monterrey was great, and Mexico City is completely berserk.”

As the Flight 666 movie showed, these audiences have been a big part of the 21st-century Maiden ‘renaissance’…

“I think ‘renaissance’ is a bollocks word, really, though the band is much bigger than we were. I think Flight 666 showed a different dimension, to the world in general, of what Maiden are about. I mean, some people still think that we’re playing to old people everywhere, like some of our contemporaries sadly are, but Maiden have always had a different spirit in terms of their audience.”

You’re like a celebrity out here!

“Ha! My daughter came to a show, and she said, ‘I do like walking behind you, Daddy, I feel so important.’ Ha ha ha! You sit at the desk and everybody around you’s taking pictures! The band love it. I love the fans, but it does get a bit embarrassing sometimes.”

The production is pretty incredible this year.

“What we tried to do with this show is add elements of the Mayan [theme] and do something quite remarkably theatrical. Some of the perspectives on the drapes are fabulous! We just try to do the best we can and better than before!”

We spent five whirlwind days with Iron Maiden in Mexico, which you can read about in full in the latest issue of Metal Hammer or on TeamRock+ below. They’re also headlining the Sunday of this year’s Download festival .

Till Lindemann wears thick glasses while looking down in a photo.

Till Lindemann is leaving Rammstein behind in 2024.

Starting in September, the bombastic frontman will embark on his first solo U.S. tour with special guests Twin Temple and Aesthetic Perfection in support of his 2023 solo album “Zunge.”

Midway through the fall run, the 61-year-old drops into New York’s The Rooftop at Pier 17 on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

While this will be Lindemann’s first solo stateside jaunt, it won’t be the first time he’s performed without Rammstein.

Most recently, he wrapped an international 2023-24 solo tour in Mexico, according to Set List FM . On that run, he regularly performed 19 songs — including two encores — per show.

While we can’t guarantee what he’ll bring to the stage on his forthcoming North American tour, we do know the best way to find out is live.

Can’t wait to see the lively Lindemann?

You’re in luck. Tickets can be snagged for all of his 2024 U.S. and Canada concerts and festival appearances as soon as today.

Although inventory isn’t available on Ticketmaster until Friday, April 26, fans who want to ensure they have tickets ahead of time can purchase on sites like Vivid Seats before tickets are officially on sale.

Vivid Seats is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They have a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and will be delivered before the event.

Till Lindemann new music

On Nov. 3, 2023, Lindemann dropped his solo album “Zunge.”

Comprised of 11 tracks, the heavy rocker stretches his musical muscles and alternates between intimate quiet and chaotic, epic loud — the sound Rammstein is known for — with ease.

Highlights include the quirky “Sports Frei,” thumping “Altes Fleisch” and the warbly anthem “Du hast kein Herz.”

Personally, we were most taken with the Ennio Morricone-esque “Tanzlehrerin” with its guitar licks, yearning vocals and gifted yet pained backing singer giving her all behind Lindemann.

Don’t sleep on the shockingly fun album closer “Selbst verliebt,” either. It’s an unexpected pop delicacy.

Want to hear for yourself?

You can listen to “Zunge” in its entirety here .

On Christmas 2023, Lindemann followed up the album release with the whirly, tongue-trilling single “Entre dos tierras” en español.

It has our stamp of approval as well; the song is quite a bit of fun.

Till Lindemann special guests

At all shows, Lindemann will be joined by a pair of opening acts.

To make sure you’re acquainted with their sounds, you can find each band’s most-streamed song on Spotify below.

Twin Temple: “Lucifer, My Love”

Aesthetic Perfection: “Spit It Out”

Till Lindemann controversy

Lindemann was accused of sexual assault by a female fan last June over social media. She alleged he drugged her at a pre-show Rammstein VIP party in Lithuania and later approached her fox sex during intermission.

This led to a backlash against Rammstein’s “VIP Experience;” fans believed Lindemann was using the ticket tier to bed fans.

After looking into the case, German prosecutors dropped the case due to a lack of evidence and testimony.

“The rapid termination of investigative proceedings by the Berlin state prosecutor’s office shows that there is insufficient evidence that our client allegedly committed sexual offen(s)es,” Lindemann’s lawyers said.

Rammstein drummer claimed Lindemann “has distanced himself from us in recent years and created his own bubble” and “things seem to have happened that, although legally ok, I personally don’t think are ok.”

Huge metal acts on tour in 2024

If Lindemann’s brief jaunt isn’t coming to a venue near you, we have just the solution.

Here are five metal acts that might be headed to your city these next few months.

•  Rob Zombie with Alice Cooper

•  Limp Bizkit

BRUCE DICKINSON On Seeing IRON MAIDEN With PAUL DI'ANNO: 'He Didn't Have A Lot Of Flex To His Voice'

In an interview with Joel McIver for the new issue of Record Collector magazine, Bruce Dickinson was asked when he first encountered IRON MAIDEN . He responded: "The first time I saw MAIDEN was at what was then the Music Machine in Camden. SAMSON [ Bruce 's then-band] were headlining because our management had bankrolled the gig and said, 'We want the top slot,' although we didn't really deserve it. That became obvious when MAIDEN came on, because the whole place was rammed. I'd heard rumors about how good they were, and I thought I'd better see them. When they came out, I thought, 'I've never seen DEEP PURPLE , but this is what it must have felt like to see DEEP PURPLE in their prime, rocking up a storm.'"

Asked what he thought of MAIDEN 's then-frontman Paul Di'Anno as a singer, Bruce said: "He was okay, but he didn't have a lot of flex to his voice. I thought his voice had come as far as it was going to get. I saw what the rest of the band were capable of straight away, and I remember thinking, 'Good God, I'd love to front that band.' And as soon as they finished playing, everybody in the venue left and we were headlining to about three people."

The new issue of Record Collector magazine can be purchased online at www.recordcollectormag.com .

Di'Anno recorded two classic albums with IRON MAIDEN before being replaced by Dickinson . He went on to front a number of other bands, including KILLERS and BATTLEZONE , and released several solo records.

In 2005, Di'Anno was asked by Classic Rock Revisited editor Jeb Wright about his previous comment that Bruce is a better singer for MAIDEN than he was. He said: "Yeah, I did admit that Bruce is a better singer for MAIDEN than me. I still do think that but only related only to the MAIDEN albums that were made after my first two initial MAIDEN classic albums. My feeling is that I could never have stamped my mark properly on the MAIDEN albums that came after 'Iron Maiden' and 'Killers' because Bruce 's voice is much better suited to that material than my voice ever could be. However, that aside, I am not actually comparing our voices against each other either, as I feel as much as I could not sing Bruce 's period of MAIDEN songs, Bruce definitely does not have — and never did have — the voice to replace me on the first two classic albums either. My voice is, and always will be, mega aggressive and that is what helped make those first two classic albums what they are. On the other hand, Bruce 's high-pitched, and sometimes operatic voice, is what has helped give the later albums their different character. I will say this though: Bruce sounds incredible on many later MAIDEN tracks such as 'The Trooper' , 'Number Of The Beast' and 'Two Minutes To Midnight' but let's face it — without meaning to sound arrogant here, just saying what everyone knows — when Bruce tries to emulate me on classics such as 'Remember Tomorrow' , 'Running Free' , 'Wrathchild' , 'Killers' or anything from the first two MAIDEN albums, he just does not have the tools for the job as the aggression just isn't there. Your voice can often explain a lot about your background, and I think my voice shows the kind of rough, lower-class background I came from. Bruce 's voice kind of gives an impression of a public schoolboy background."

In a 2022 interview with Sakis Fragos of Greece's Rock Hard magazine, Di'Anno addressed the circumstances that led to his departure from MAIDEN and whether it's true that it has something to do with his vocal performance. He said: "My record stands for itself. I've played more shows than IRON MAIDEN have ever played… They play a lot of concerts, but I played a hell of a lot more than they ever had. So it was nothing to do with my voice. It was nothing to do with that. I was just upset about certain things, which were private things in the band. And the way I dealt with them maybe was not right, but I dealt with them. And that's the end of it. And that's as much as I'm gonna say."

Pressed about whether it's true that he wasn't properly compensated for his work on the first two IRON MAIDEN albums, Paul said: "I have nothing to comment on that at all, because, to be honest with you, it's nobody's damn business. I got paid very well. I'm very happy with that. See, if I try to say, 'Oh, IRON MAIDEN didn't pay me enough money,' it's a bad reflection on IRON MAIDEN . And I'm not taking that. I got paid very well. They looked after me. End of story."

The Iron Maiden tour adds Phoenix date in 2024. Here's how to get tickets to the concert

I conic British heavy metal veterans Iron Maiden have added a Phoenix date to the North American leg of the Future Past Tour, playing Footprint Center on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024, with Mongolian metal greats the Hu.

No further shows will be announced for North America.

The Hu issued a statement saying, “Iron Maiden is the master of the masters of rock music. They are one of the biggest inspirations to us! The way that they create and perform their music is majestic and we still remember the first time we heard their ‘Trooper’ song and felt the deep energy behind each word.”

Future Past Tour features songs from 'Senjetsu,' 'Somewhere in Time'

The Future Past Tour, which features songs from Maiden’s latest studio release, “Senjutsu,” and 1986’s seminal “Somewhere in Time” alongside other fan favorites, played to more than 750,000 fans at more than 30 sold-out shows across Europe in the summer of 2023.

They also played Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver alongside their highly praised appearance at California’s Power Trip Festival in October, which had Consequence raving “Iron Maiden set the bar high at Power Trip” and The Desert Sun saying they “delivered a hard-hitting performance to open the festival on a high note."

The tour features one of the most spectacular stage productions of Maiden’s career.
