About Joe Rogan

Joe Rogan has been described as “One of the most complex and exciting stand-ups working in America today. Like an idealistic hippy stuck inside the body of a testosterone-pumped U.S. Marine. He’s been likened to late great U.S. comedians such as Bill Hicks and Sam Kinison, but although he exhibits a similar brand of furious indignation, his observations and revelations are entirely his own. His angry, insightful act is an absorbing battle between his raw libertarian instincts and his refined liberal sensibilities.” –William Cook, The Guardian

A standup comedian for over 20 years, Rogan’s sixth hour-long comedy special Joe Rogan: Strange Times premiered on Netflix in October 2018. Rogan’s previous comedy specials include Joe Rogan: Triggered (2016) for Netflix, Joe Rogan: Rocky Mountain High (2014) for Comedy Central, Joe Rogan: Live from the Tabernacle (2012) released via his website, Talking Monkeys in Space (2009) on CD & DVD, and Joe Rogan Live (2007) on DVD.  Additionally, Rogan released the CDs Shiny Happy Jihad (2007) and I’m Gonna Be Dead Someday (2000).

Rogan is host of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” a long form conversation with guests that is one of the most popular podcasts, currently exclusively distributed on Spotify.

Since 2002, Rogan has provided color commentary for the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) on Pay Per View, Spike Television, FOX, and currently ESPN+.  Rogan’s passion for MMA began with martial arts practice at the age of 13.  Within two years, the Boston native earned a black belt and soon became the Massachusetts full contact Tae Kwon Do champion four consecutive years.  By the age of 19, Rogan won the U.S. Open Tae Kwon Do Championship and as lightweight champion went on to beat both the middle and heavyweight titleholders to obtain the Grand Championship.

Film credits include Here Comes The Boom (2012) and Zookeeper (2011).  Rogan hosted Joe Rogan Questions Everything (2013) for the SyFy channel.  Rogan hosted the competition reality series Fear Factor on NBC in 2011/12 and previously for six seasons on the network from 2001-2006.  Prior to Fear Factor, Rogan played Joe Garrelli, the resident electrician on the hit NBC comedy series NewsRadio.

Tucker Carlson says UFOs are 'spiritual beings,' politicians blackmailed by 'weird sex lives,' tells Joe Rogan about eating magic mushrooms

Tucker Carlson says UFOs are 'spiritual beings,' politicians blackmailed by 'weird sex lives,' tells Joe Rogan about eating magic mushrooms

Tucker Carlson gave a wide-ranging interview with Joe Rogan , where the pair discussed UFOs being "spiritual beings," politicians being blackmailed by intelligence agencies over their "weird sex lives," blasting Joe Scarborough, and partaking in too many magic mushrooms.

During the most recent episode of " The Joe Rogan Experience ," Tucker and Rogan touched on a myriad of topics.

Tucker said of unidentified anomalous phenomena, "If they are spiritual beings – which I believe they are – it's binary, they're either team good or team bad. And I think some of them are bad."

Carlson also called the UAPs "supernatural" because they are "beyond nature of what we understand it." He noted that the crafts had "no visible means of propulsion" and hit "indescribable speeds" in the air and the sea.

"These are an advanced race of beings from somewhere else," Tucker said. "But the template that every other society before us has used is a spiritual one."

"There is a whole world that we can't see that acts on people, the supernatural world that's acting on us all the time for good and bad," the veteran broadcaster continued. "Every society has thought this before ours. In fact, every society in all recorded history has thought that until, I'll be specific – August 1945 – when we dropped the atom bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. And all of a sudden the West is just officially secular – 'We're God, there is no god but us.'"

Carlson said, We're being acted on by spiritual forces. At all times."

"And, in fact, that battle, that unseen battle around us that spiritual battle, has, like been the basis of every society of every religion , not just Christianity," he stated.

Carlson questioned, "So like, it's just, once you discard your very, very recent assumptions, relatively speaking, about how the world works, you're like, well, that kind of seems like the obvious explanation right?"

Carslon added, "I mean, the prophet Ezekiel writes about it in the first chapter: the wheels in the sky."

He said that these "spiritual phenomenons" are cited in every religion.

Tucker theorized that the U.S. government may be aware of these unidentified anomalous phenomena, but they don't want the public to know that the military is unable to do anything against these vessels and can't protect the homeland because that could cause mass hysteria.

Tucker said that Americans have been injured and killed by the UAPs, and cited Garry Nolan – the Rachford and Carlota A. Harris Professor in the Department of Pathology at the Stanford University School of Medicine. Nolan has published over 300 papers as an immunologist, but is also an expert in alleged encounters with UAPs that were fatal because of an unknown energy.

"U.S. servicemen have died as a result of contact with or being in the proximity of these vehicles. And we know that because there’s a lot of suits working through the VA system,” Carlson claimed. “Where families can’t get compensated for the death or injuries of loved ones.”

Rogan asked if these UAPs were American military projects, Carlson dismissed the idea by saying "none of it is ours." He declared that it is not foreign technology either, and said it "predates all of that."

Also during the three-hour interview, Carlson suggested that U.S. intelligence agencies have control over members of Congress.

"Members of Congress are terrified of the intel agencies. I’m not guessing at that. They’ve told me that, including people who run the intel committee," Carlson proclaimed.

Carlson said he was recently talking to a very powerful elected official in his kitchen who "holds a really senior position."

Carlson told inside source, "But I was like, 'All these people are controlled. They’ve all got weird sex lives, and all these things they’re hiding, and they’re being blackmailed by the intel agencies.’ And he said, and I’m quoting, ‘I know.’ I was like, okay, so at this point, we’re just sort of admitting that’s real? Like, why do we allow that to continue?"

Carlson also slammed the premise that the United States is a democracy.

"When they stand up and pass a $60 billion funding bill for Ukraine, when 70% of the population doesn’t want it, when they’re ignoring the actual problems in our country, like the economy and the border, and they’re hauling in Congress over the weekend to pass something that people don’t want while ignoring the things that people do want," Carslon declared. "And if they do the same kind of thing again and again for, like, 50 years, and they call it a democracy, that will drive you insane because it’s just too dishonest."

He continued, "Why not just say, ‘We don’t give a s**t what you want. We are getting something out of this Ukraine funding, whether it’s the thrill of being masters of the universe or whether it’s money from the defense contractors, whatever we’re getting out of it is more important to us than your opinion. This is not self-government. You don’t run this country. We do. Shut up and obey.'"

"If they at least said that, you’d be like, ‘Okay, I get it. Those are the terms,'" Carslon said.

"But if I get another f***ing lecture from Joe Scarborough about ‘defending democracy’ when this is not a democracy, it’s not even a close approximation of a democracy, then I’m going to go crazy because I just can’t deal with the lying," Carslon proclaimed.

On a lighter note, Rogan asked Carlson about being a fervent fan of the Grateful Dead.

Tucker said he went to his first Grateful Dead concert in 1984 with his 13-year-old brother when he was 15.

Carlson admitted that he "freaked out" in the middle of the show because he took psilocybin mushrooms.

"Yeah, it was mushrooms, and we ate way too many," he confessed. "And we started to kind of melt down a little bit."

Biden joins Howard Stern for softball interview a day after NY Times rips ‘troubling’ lack of availability

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

President Biden sat down Friday for a gentle one-one-one with Howard Stern — one day after the New York Times published a statement condemning the 81-year-old for avoiding the press more than any other modern commander-in-chief.

The former shock jock’s question topics ranged from praising Biden’s new airline reimbursement policy (“so great,” in Stern’s words) to asking whether the president’s parents were political, recounting Biden’s schoolboy football experience and meeting his first wife, Neilia.

At one point, the “Private Parts” star gushed that Biden had a “very cinematic life,” though it was unclear whether that was a tongue-in-cheek reference to the president’s many questionable anecdotes .

President Joe Biden briefly speaks to reporters as he departs the White House on April 25, 2024 in Washington, DC.

The chat with Stern adds to Biden’s limited interview tally , but the president still has conducted the fewest in-office interrogations of any recent chief executive by a long shot — and an ongoing count by Martha Joynt Kumar, director of the White House Transition Project, shows it isn’t particularly close.

According to Kumar, Biden has given just 89 total interviews during his first three years in office.

At the same time in their first terms, Donald Trump had given 300 interviews, Barack Obama had given 422, George W. Bush had given 135, Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush had each given 168 and Ronald Reagan had given 189, the tally shows.

When Biden does give interviews, they are often with friendly outlets like MSNBC — or the recording is held back for days.

Earlier this month, Univision kept an interview with Biden for six days between recording and release, while the president’s March 28 interview with “Smartless” podcasts co-hosts Will Arnett, Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes won’t be released in full until Monday.

Biden has also held just three solo White House press conferences — and only 33 once joint appearances with other world leaders are tallied.

Howard Stern speaks onstage during the SiriusXM Next Generation: Industry & Press Preview at The Tisch Skylights at The Shed on November 08, 2023 in New York City.

Even these rare occasions have been marked by the octogenarian reading answers off notecards after taking questions from a pre-selected list of reporters.

Trump had 54 total pressers at the three-year mark of his presidency, Obama had 65, George W. Bush had 67, Clinton had 113, George H.W. Bush had 119, and Reagan had 21, according to Kumar.

On Thursday, the Times slammed Biden for refusing to sit down for more interviews with independent news outlets.

“For anyone who understands the role of the free press in a democracy, it should be troubling that President Biden has so actively and effectively avoided questions from independent journalists during his term. The president occupies the most important office in our nation, and the press plays a vital role in providing insights into his thinking and worldview, allowing the public to assess his record and hold him to account,” the statement began .

President Joe Biden speaks on the CHIPS and Science Act at the Milton J. Rubenstein Museum in Syracuse, N.Y., Thursday, April 25, 2024.

“Mr. Biden has granted far fewer press conferences and sit-down interviews with independent journalists than virtually all of his predecessors,” the Times added, noting publisher AG Sulzberger had urged the White House to let Biden sit down with the likes of the Wall Street Journal or Reuters — even if it wants to dodge on-the-record interviews with the Gray Lady.

“Systematically avoiding interviews and questions from major news organizations doesn’t just undermine an important norm, it also establishes a dangerous precedent that future presidents can use to avoid scrutiny and accountability.”

The White House has long argued that Biden does make himself available to the press by answering impromptu questions while walking to Marine One and on other occasions.

However, such back-and-forths — of which Biden has had 535 to this point in his term, according to Kumar — are hampered by helicopter noise and lack of time for thorough questioning.

Stand-Up Comedian Tony Hinchcliffe on Defending Matt Rife, the ‘Kill Tony’ Podcast and ‘Never Apologizing’ After Using Racial Slur in 2021

The former writer for 'Comedy Central Roasts' shares conspiracy theories on why he was 'cancelled' ahead of his sold out shows at the Netflix is a Joke festival

Is there a rule book for comedy? It’s a question igniting fiery debates, especially in today’s era of “cancel culture” dictating the dos and don’ts of stand-up. But for Tony Hinchcliffe , the idea of conforming to these restrictions is as likely as finding a unicorn at a rodeo.

“There’s no room for victim mentality here,” Hinchcliffe tells  Variety . “When you step into a dark, dingy comedy club, what do you want to see? Think about it like a strip club. Do you want to see girls in a dress? Or do you want to see nasty fucking shit? You want ping-pong balls flying at your head.”

Popular on Variety

But Hinchcliffe is not without controversy. In May 2021, more than a year into the pandemic, Hinchcliffe found his way into the eye of the cancel culture storm. A racial slur hurled at fellow comedian and Asian American Peng Dang during a gig in Austin catapulted him into a whirlwind of backlash. The incident, caught on video and circulated widely on Twitter (now X) resulted in Hinchcliffe being dropped by his talent agency, WME, and several of his scheduled performances were canceled.

Despite these setbacks, Hinchcliffe secured representation with Nick Nuciforo at United Talent Agency, whose clientele includes notable figures like Will Ferrell and Sarah Silverman. Hinchcliffe also continues to headline major events, such as the Netflix Is a Joke festival in Los Angeles, alongside Redban.

Unlike others, Hinchcliffe hasn’t apologized since the 2021 controversy. In fact, his No. 1 rule is “never apologize,” and he has leaned into it even more. In October 2023, Hinchcliffe continued to stir the pot, this time appearing on the controversial YouTube show “TRIGGERnometry.” On the episode , conspiracy theories flew around and accusations from the comedian painted Dang as “a Chinese spy,” further describing the incident as “an orchestrated attack by the Chinese media.”

Dang, for his part, says he remains detached from Hinchcliffe’s narratives since the incident, but still receives ongoing racial and hateful messages regularly. Regarding Hinchcliffe’s accusations, he questions the logic behind sending a spy to gather intelligence under the guise of a stand-up comedian. “I thought most spies gather classified information related to science, technology or government affairs,” Dang tells  Variety . “Why would any country send a spy to be a stand-up comedian? What kind of intelligence would I get from doing comedy? At that moment in time, there was a rise in Asian hate. It was backed by statistics. I know people personally who were injured in Texas.”

Variety  spoke to Hinchcliffe in a sprawling conversation about everything from the state of cancel culture, appearing at Netflix Is a Joke and drawing inspiration from “The Golden Girls.”

What inspired you to get into comedy?

Who’s your favorite Golden Girl?

Someone asked me that at a Q&A in front of 3,000 people [one] night, and I could not answer. It’s whichever one spoke last. It’s like a Tarantino movie. Whichever one you have yet to see is your least favorite until you rewatch it. And then you realize that’s his best movie. And then it’s the same exact thing with “The Golden Girls.”

How do you feel about being part of Netflix Is a Joke, the Coachella of stand-up comedy festivals?

I’m looking forward to being the Netflix outlier. We surprised the industry when we put our tickets on sale for the YouTube theater, and they sold out in a couple of hours. The Kia Forum is an added show. I’m excited to return to where this started. I’ve spent the last three years in Austin, but I built everything, loved everything and knew everything about Los Angeles.

We’re the comedy show. Comedians are watching comedians do comedy on “Kill Tony.” I’m using a pro wrestling model. Anything can happen and it’s ridiculously exciting. You could watch someone’s entire life change in front of your eyes. Everybody that we pull out of that bucket has a chance.

When it comes to the next generation, we’re seeing TikTok creators transitioning from funny videos to stand-up comedy, which isn’t always an easy bridge to cross.

A Baltimore bridge.

What would your nugget of inspiration be for them?

It’s a very dark, lonely road. It is the opposite of TikTok, where your content is immediately seen by a ton of people. You must be able to be present in a room and change your timing. Not to be taken lightly. Someone going from TikTok and expecting to be a natural stand-up comedian is the equivalent in my mind of someone being good at Pop-a-Shot basketball, making as many as you can in 30 seconds, to being in the NBA. How many people from TikTok or Instagram reels are even making it as a stand-up comedian? People get Matt Rife confused and blocked in with those people. But my take on Matt Rife is I knew him 11 years ago, opening for Ralphie May. And he was a little star. I bust all my comedian friends’ balls when they bring him up and speak negatively about him in the green room. He did the work. He did those things. And he started young; he’s built for it.   Do you feel your move from L.A. to Austin has hindered any opportunities or can people pretty much have a comedy career from anywhere now?

It has hindered nothing. On the contrary, it’s freeing to know that we are focused on our standup comedy and podcasts instead of being focused on L.A. or New York City cliches like auditions, pitch meetings, voiceover gigs, writing jobs and other distractions that, at best, leave you with a boss, a lack of creative control and probably wanting more money. By having our priorities be our own podcasts and doing live shows regularly we get better at those two things regularly and can all relate to one another and do each others’ shows to promote the projects we care about. Our favorite comedians from L.A. and New York come to us now — we only go there when we have to do big shows. People can have a career from anywhere now but I still think it’s important to be around people that you respect and have fun with. It’s great for mental health. There is no victim mentality whatsoever in Texas. In Austin we are hyper aware of the existing freedom of American stand-up comedy and the audiences here and the people that travel here for shows know exactly what they are getting into and love it. Everyone wins.

I just never stopped. What happened in May of 2021 was that I was playing a joke on stage with someone who knew me and knew my style. And it was a time in which I think being a victim was looked at — as a — I don’t want to say a good thing, but it was something that people were utilizing to get their own names out there.

I knew that what I had done was not wrong. It wasn’t even the worst thing I did that week. I couldn’t believe it when that video came out, and it was one of my former openers doing it. It was so dumbfounding to me because it was a joke, and my stance is that comedians should never apologize for a joke, should never stop working if everyone comes after them and should never slow down. In fact, they should utilize anything that happens to them for more material. Real comedy fans see through it. They want that line. They know that line. And they love that line. That line is exactly where I love to exist, and I push that to the limits. I did P. Diddy jokes this past weekend. I told Nickelodeon jokes, a Baltimore bridge reference. People say, “But what if someone’s family that was on the bridge sees that?” It’s a different little island that we’ve created. It existed in Texas, obviously a staple of free speech, but while L.A. and New York have virtue signaled their way into what’s right and what’s wrong. We go forward here.

So, to be clear, are you saying people use “being offended” as a crutch to advance in the business?

One hundred percent. It’s virtue signaling. I don’t want to make it political or anything like that, but I look at it like wearing a mask at the airport. I’ve been on the road all these weekends, and I still see people wearing masks, and I get it. Maybe people are fighting cancer or something like that. But the reality is, are you really? Are you really trying to not get sick? Are you afraid to get somebody sick? The whole thing is nonexistent. Now, a doctor will tell you, you don’t have to do that, and you shouldn’t. There are more negative repercussions. The mask is virtue signaling. It’s like, “Look at me, I care.”

What’s your take on people being too sensitive nowadays?

Nobody who knows me is not sensitive at all. If you look at the profiles of people who are upset, angry or retweeting in a “canceled” situation, you will see that they’re constantly complaining about things. In May 2021, mainstream media had a tight grip on fear and controlling people. But I don’t see any sensitivity; on the contrary, in my shows, I see people who say, “That’s the moment.”

I have a George Floyd joke that I do. That’s entirely on me, but if someone didn’t know comedy and wasn’t a high-level stand-up fan, they would go, “Oh, you cannot do that. You cannot bring up that kind of subject matter.” I think people must realize that we are professionals. And yes, sure, we deal with the repercussions of what happens.
