Public Transportation

Valley Regional Transit (VRT) is the regional public transportation authority for Ada and Canyon counties in southwest Idaho. VRT’s main responsibilities are to coordinate transit services in the two-county area and develop and implement a regional public transportation system. VRT owns and operates the public bus system in Meridian, Boise and Garden City and contracts for transit services for Nampa/Caldwell and between Ada and Canyon counties. These services are operated under the name ValleyRide.

Today, bus service in Meridian includes: Route 40 and Route 42 Inter-County lines, Rides2Wellness, Harvest Transit, Meridian Veterans Shuttle, and ACCESS paratransit services. Also, the City of Meridian and VRT are working together to plan for a future fixed-line bus service in Meridian. The new Route 30 Pine in Meridian scheduled to begin on Monday, October 3. This new route will provide fixed-route bus service between the Ten Mile interchange and Kleiner Park. Check here for updates on the service, including a map and a schedule.

Route 40 and Route 42 Inter-County

Route 40 and Route 42 Inter-County  run Monday through Friday with peak service hours and connect Meridian to both Boise and Nampa/Caldwell. This service operates on a fixed-route system, which means they pass through a series of predetermined stops that passengers travel to and from on their own.

ACCESS is a paratransit transportation service designed to complement the Valley Regional Transit fixed-route and on-demand bus systems, this service is available to people who are unable to utilize the fixed-route or on-demand bus systems because of a disability. Pickup and drop-off locations for ACCESS service will be within three-fourths of a mile of fixed-route service. Rides2Wellness

Rides2Wellness  helps you get to your medical appointments by providing free transportation in the Treasure Valley Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. This program will pick you up from your home and drop you off at your appointment. In order to schedule a ride, call the VRT Help Desk at 208-345-7433 at least two business days prior to your appointment.

Meridian Veterans Shuttle

Meridian Veterans Shuttle  provides free transportation for Meridian veterans Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. between Meridian and the Boise Veterans Administration Medical Center. In order to schedule a ride, call the VRT Help Desk at 208-345-7433 at least two business days prior to your appointment.

Harvest Transit

Harvest Transit  provides free transportation for seniors, persons with disabilities, and veterans Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. within a designated service area in Meridian to reach activities and services within the community. Pick up is in front of your house and the service will take you to any location within the service area. Schedule your ride at least 2 business days in advance by calling 208-343-4414. “The Hamptons is a market that can use a middle ground,” Blade’s chief marketing officer Roisin Branch said in a statement. “Until electric vertical aircraft are available, we can’t make helicopters less expensive, but we can elevate the ground experience that hasn’t changed in over two decades.”

Each seat is fitted with a call button that will get the attention of an attendant should you want a hot towel, cashmere blanket, or free snack. Passengers will be offered tasty treats to enjoy on the journey, such as Château La Coste rosé, Patron’s new El Alto tequila , PopUp Bagels, and Sweetgreen salads. You’ll also receive Hamptons Survival Dopp kits by Dria and dog accessories by Bonefly if you decide to bring Fido.

That level of service comes at a cost, of course. The Streamliner starts at $195 per seat, whereas the Jitney and Ambassador begin at $41 and $64, respectively. You can also fork out $275 for one of the Streamliner’s seven premium single seats, which is still cheaper than paying $1,000 to get the Blade Bell 407 helicopter to the East End.

The new service will run from Memorial Day weekend until Labor Day. That’s your summer commuting sorted, then.

IndyGo bus fire at 38th and Meridian ends in arson arrest

INDIANAPOLIS — A fire that engulfed an IndyGo bus early Wednesday at the northside stop near the 38th Street and Meridian Street intersection is being investigated as arson.

The Indianapolis Fire Department said crews were dispatched to the scene around 7:10 a.m. Videos of the blaze circulated on social media just after 7:15 a.m. The fire was under control within 10 minutes, the fire department said.

There were four people on the bus, including the driver. The bus driver said all passengers evacuated through the middle door of the vehicle. Indianapolis Fire Department officials said two passengers were transported to Eskenazi Hospital to treat slight injuries.

The estimated damage to the bus and shelter is $2 million, according to the fire department. The bus is part of the city's Red Line.

The Indianapolis Fire Department's director of media relations, Rita Reith, said in an email Wednesday afternoon that "there was no malfunction with the bus or its electrical systems."

IndyGo director of communications, Carrie Black, said early eyewitness reports suggest a passenger started the fire.

Police later in the day announced an arrest in connection with the fire. The individual has been preliminarily charged with two counts of arson, one count being with damage more than $5,000, and the other count being arson endangering human life, according to Fox59 . Both counts are felonies.

Black said that cleanup is complete at the station and the Red Line has returned to its normal route as of Wednesday afternoon. She added that the loss of the bus should not impact future operations.

Thousands of Portsmouth FC supporters have gathered on Southsea Common to celebrate the success of both the men’s and women’s teams.

The Champions on the Common event on Sunday, 28 April, was held to mark Pompey’s double title triumph.

A win over Barnsley last week saw the men’s side secure the League One title and promotion to the Championship.

The women’s team are champions of the National League Southern Premier Division.

Sunday’s festivities included live entertainment, with players taking to stage to address fans.

Speaking ahead of the event, Pompey chief executive Andrew Cullen, said: “The event also allows us to thank our outstanding supporters for the superb backing they have provided to our players – and to us all."

“It provides a fantastic opportunity to celebrate what has been an amazing season for both the men’s and women’s teams.”

Organisation of the event was supported by Portsmouth City Council. There was no parade planned.

Outbound Orchard and Franklin (temp stop placed near side just after railroad tracks, Franklin and Phillippi (Temp stop placed around the corner on Phillippi. Inbound Orchard and Cassia, Orchard and Peg, Orchard and Franklin. No temp stops placed for these stops.

Coming out of downtown Boise on Front Street, drivers will turn right onto 13th Street, left onto Idaho Street, then follow Idaho Street onto Main Street to get back on route. No stops will be missed.
