Like a playful game, the islands and islets of Kornati are scattered amidst the stone and sea. On a clear day, the archipelago is a tranquil display of blue and grey hues. However, when the winds pick up, the archipelago comes alive with the sound of crashing waves. The Kornati Islands offer a safe haven for sailors during times of rough weather, when the mighty sea shows its power and disregards man as a mere visitor. The Kornati archipelago consists of 89 islands, islets, and rocks, encompassing a total park surface area of 216.78 square kilometers. These seemingly dry facts fail to convey the truly remarkable and uniquely rugged nature of this archipelago, which boasts awe-inspiring landscapes found nowhere else. The view from above is nothing short of breathtaking, and the same can be said for the vistas from sightseeing points on the islands themselves.

Located 15 kilometres from Sibenik, Skradin is a romantic Mediterranean town with narrow cobbled streets, passages, arches and stairs and is located at the entrance to Krka National Park . The entire town of Skradin is a protected cultural heritage monument.

Its history dates back two thousand years, accounting for the notable archaeological sites in the local vicinity. Under the current name Skradin is mentioned already in the tenth century. It is located on the right bank of river Krka and all until recently has been hiding its beauty sheltered in a natural bay. Today, Skradin’s charms may be seen by any traveller making a stop at the most beautiful rest area of the Zagreb-Split highway and the beautiful bridge from which an unforgettable view may be admired. With its beauty, Skradin has been attracting many conquerors in the history, being devastated on several occasions. It was ruled by old Liburnian, Romans, Goths, Venetians and Turks.

NATIONAL PARK KRKA

The largest part of this amazing river’s course is the national park, which in addition to its natural phenomena abounds with cultural and historical monuments. The most outstanding of these is the Franciscan monastery on the tiny island of Visovac, set in the middle of the lake widening in the river like a precious stone. Within the monastery there is a picture gallery and a church, origins of which are traced back to the 14th century. In the middle of the canyon, upstream of the river, is an interesting Krka Orthodox monastery; while on the high ground above the river several old ruins sit. The old mills, which have been transformed into small ethnographic museums where one can see how wheat was ground in the olden days, are a popular attraction for visitors. Heritage interpreters are dressed in traditional folk costumes, which is particularly interesting and entertaining for children, who are frequent visitors of the park. However, the main attraction of Krka National Park lies in its seven waterfalls. The widest of these is Roški slap, although Skradinski buk is the biggest and most well known.

ISLAND OF MURTER

The name of the island of Murter covers the watershed that is bordered by the Murterska canal in the southwest of the islands of Kaprije, Kakanj and Žirje in the south, in the south by the Tisno gate, in the southwest of the Kornati islands, in the northwest by Velika Prova and the small islands of Mali Tremulic, Božikovac and Mali Balabru, north of the central canal, the Zadar islands of Gangara and Murvenjak, and finally the Vrgadski canal and the islets of Artica vela i Artica mala. In the middle of this area, which has become one of the most attractive and most visited boating areas in Europe, is the Murtersko more.

On the northeastern side of the Murter Sea is the island of Murter, northwest, southwest and south is surrounded by the Kornati, and on its southeastern side are known Siberian islands of Zirje, Kakan and Kaprije.

In the middle of the southeastern edge of the Murter Sea there are Tetovišnjaci - a group of five islands and a cliff. Clearly recognizable and recognizable, Tetovšnjaci are a good guide to navigating a nurturing but silent Murters sea.

Telascica Bay is located in the central part of the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea, in the south-eastern part of the island of Dugi Otok. Telascica acquired the status of a protected area already in 1980 because of its valuable flora and fauna, geological and geomorphological phenomena, versatile sea bottom life, and interesting archaeological heritage.

NATURE PARK TELASCICA

For its extreme beauty, richness and importance, this bay surrounded by 13 islands and islets, together with 6 islets inside the bay itself, was proclaimed a Nature Park in 1988.

The area of Nature Park Telascica is a distinctly contrasted area with quiet and peaceful beaches and a laid down coastline on one side, and wild and steep cliffs on the other, an area of Aleppo pine and holm oak forests on one side, and barren karst on the other, an area of cultivated fields covered in vineyards and olive groves, but also an area of degraded forms of vegetation covering dry habitats.

Three basic phenomena represent the basic characteristics of this area: the unique Telascica Bay as the safest, most beautiful and largest natural port of the Adriatic with 25 small beaches, the cliffs of Dugi Otok or the so-called “stene” rising up to a height of 161 metres above the sea and reaching down to a depth of 90 metres, and the salt lake “Mir” with its medicinal properties. The most picturesque among the islands is the Katina Island, and the most unusual one is certainly Taljuric. The total surface area of the Nature Park is 70.50 km2, with 25.95 km2 on Dugi Otok and the neighbouring islets, and 44.55 km2 at sea.

The Kornati archipelago – a labyrinth of stone, with eighty nine islands, islets and rocks in the sea. It is the most indented island group in the Mediterranean. Regardless of whether you look at the Kornati Islands from the air, from the sea, or from sightseeing points on the islands, the view is equally impressive – and yet different to the eye every single time.
