Optional Excursions and Activities

The following optional excursions and activities are offered as part of the Château Family Camp travel package.

Get lost–and then found!–in the lush, manicured outdoor maze at Labyrinthe Adventure Park , where families have been entertained for more than 25 years. The fun continues with Swiss Family Robinson-style nets to climb in, miniature golf, a slip 'n slide, bounce houses, and for the especially daring in your group: climb the popular Slide Tower and zip back down to the ground from a height of nearly 100 feet! A shuttle will be provided to and from the park.

Along the shores of Lake Geneva lies one of the most historic châteaus in all of Switzerland: the Château de Chillon , a one-time strategic point connecting the states of Vaud and Valais that inspired a poem written by Lord Byron. Visitors can tour this extraordinary castle and see Byron's name inscribed on one of the dungeon pillars. The Pepperdine team will escort family camp participants by train to Château de Chillon. Payment due at entrance to the castle, tours are on your own.

Tour the "fromagerie" and watch wheels of the regional Gruyère cheese come into being right before your eyes. You'll have a chance to sample a variety of cheeses and pick out the perfect souvenir at the cheese factory gift shop. After the Gruyère Cheese Factory tour, you can enjoy the picturesque medieval village, where you can wander through the shops, restaurants, and explore the Castle of Gruyères. A shuttle will be provided to and from Gruyère, tours of the cheese factory will be coordinated by the Pepperdine team.

Step in the world of miniature trains at Swiss Vapeur Parc in le Bouveret. Ride the mini-trains or walk along the meandering pathways and enjoy the park's nearly five acres of beautiful landscape featuring small scale models of bridges, viaducts, tunnels, and re-creations of notable Swiss landmarks such as Saanen Church, Aigle Castle, and the Halls of Neuchâtel. A shuttle will be provided to and from the park.

Enjoy a floating tour of Lake Geneva on one of the renovated paddle steamboats in the Belle Époque fleet. Take in stunning views of Montreux (wave to Freddie Mercury's statue), Château de Chillon, and voyage into France before returning to Vevey. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. The Pepperdine team will escort family camp participants by train to the pier. Payment is due at the entrance to the steamboat.

Enjoy a round of golf at the exclusive Golf-Club Domaine Impérial in the nearby town of Gland, alongside the shores of Lake Geneva. You'll have the chance to visit the historic clubhouse, which was built in 1860 by relatives of Napoleon Bonaparte. The only course in Europe completely designed by Pete Dye, Domaine Impérial is considered to be the best in Switzerland. (A specific date and time for campers interested in a round of golf is being arranged. Please register for this event if you'd like to participate, and a member of the Pepperdine team will contact you with more details—space is limited)

Join the Château d'Hauteville vintners and estate farmer to learn about the winemaking and cheese making processes and sample some local Swiss cheeses and wines—including our own d'Hauteville label!
