Frequently Asked Questions about our San Francisco Private Tours

For adults who are excited to make the most of their day and really get to know the city, we recommend the Best of San Francisco Private Tour (6hrs, which includes time for either a lovely waterfront lunch or a deeper dive into our neighborhoods).  If you’re short on time, our half-day Highlights of San Francisco Private Tour is our “express” offering.

Our Wine Country private tours are perfect for adult couples and groups of friends curious to learn about viticulture, or looking for a quick escape!  We also offer a family friendly wine-country day , customized upon request.

If you’re someone who’s always been fascinated by high-tech and modern California lifestyle , or you have children looking at colleges, our Silicon Valley Private Tours may surprise you!

If time spent in nature is more your speed, you’ll enjoy breathing the fresh Pacific air and strolling the Redwood forest with our trained naturalist guides in Muir Woods.  Muir Woods Private Tours journey across the Golden Gate Bridge and include time for a waterfront lunch in charming Sausalito.

The Tesla Model X SUV seats up to 5 guests , we recommend up to 4 adults, or 3 adults and 2 children. The third row is “European style” and most comfortable for 2 children or 1 adult. We’ve had 7’ tall NBA stars in our second row Captains chairs, so most humans fit comfortably!

The Tesla Model S sport sedan seats up to 4 guests . Three adults are seated very comfortably, with a rear middle seat available for a child or more petite person.

Spark Experiences are available for larger groups upon request.   Our Teslas together are able to accommodate up to a maximum of 9 persons (depending on size). Beyond that, we work with top-notch transportation partners that provide anything from large SUVs to Sprinters and full-size motor coaches.  Price upon request.

For families with kids and teens we recommend the 4hr Highlights of San Francisco Private Tour , as well as the Muir Woods, Golden Gate and Sausalito Private Tour (outdoors and active!).  These are especially engaging and a just long enough for the attention span of our younger guests!

If you have family members interested in high-tech or who are looking at colleges, our Silicon Valley Private Tour is also great for groups with older children.

We also are one of the VERY few operators who offer a customized family-friendly Wine Country private tour .

We welcome children 5yrs and up as long as they can safely sit in an adult car seat.   We frequently tour with families of all shapes and sizes, though we do not provide or allow boosters, car seats, or strollers in our Tesla vehicles .

Rest assured, ALL our guides are hand-selected and trained to be not only knowledgeable and interesting, but also kind, fun and easy to talk to.

Our founder and lead guide Heather has more than 10 years in luxury hospitality, teaching experience, and many dozen glowing 5-star reviews!

In fact, our team of world-class local guides come to us with a wealth of professional experience with companies such as Tauck World Discoveries, Walt Disney Adventures, Insight Gold, Destination America and Abercrombie & Kent… just to name a few!

All of our Spark Experiences are carefully crafted to be top-caliber experiences that have been enjoyed by thousands of guests.  Each private tour is led by a professional guide, who is sensitive to your interests and ability.

If you would like to make substantial changes to one of our existing tours, or request a fully bespoke experience, we can customize an itinerary just for you!  Please contact us if you’d like to discuss options for curating your perfect day.

To maximize your time and access to the best sites, the optimal start time for most tours is 9am .  Other start times may be available upon special request.

Part of your Spark Experience is luxury roundtrip transportation to and from centrally located hotels within the City of San Francisco, including Downtown, SOMA, Nob Hill and Fisherman’s wharf!

We highly recommend starting all tours from your place of lodging.  We offer upgraded pickup from SFO area hotels, upon special request.  Please note that we cannot store unattended luggage or personal items or in the vehicle at any time.

Our tours are casual, so slacks, jeans and leisurewear are all perfectly appropriate.  The most important wardrobe items to pack are wind-resistant warm outer layers (year round!) and comfortable footwear for walking.

Overall, our weather is very mild and temperate, with averages in the low 60s much of the year.  We definitely recommend dressing in multiple light layers , especially for our cool ocean breezes and famous fog near the coast.

For Muir Woods private tours we recommend wearing warmer layers and athletic shoes that are OK to get a little dirty (some trails are earthen).

Its not uncommon for visitors to dress up just a little extra for Napa Valley wine tasting.  Some private Napa wine tours may include jeep rides and vineyard walks, in which case you may wish to wear more sensible flat soled shoes and avoid wearing crisp what that might get soiled or dusty out in the vineyard!

Please feel free to ask any questions regarding attire.

Our goal is for you to have a memorable experience with your loved ones – in a way that’s fun, enriching, and completely stress-free. We’re here to take care of you every step of the way, whether you’re after a leisurely and relaxed itinerary or a nimble pace to check off everything on your bucket list.  For more information about what makes us the best San Francisco private tour operator, learn more here.

You can also learn more about our founder, and about us as a company .

We are very proud to offer top-notch San Francisco experiences that are FULLY private, high-caliber, and led by our engaging and attentive expert local guides . Please see our consistent 5-star reviews on Google and Facebook!

We are also the only San Francisco private tour company where you get to spend the day enjoying gorgeous, fully-loaded TESLA Model X SUV and Model S (luxury sports sedan) vehicles. No boring black town cars, crowded vans or big buses here!

Our vehicles are small enough to access ALL of San Francisco.  Unlike the larger group tours, no neighborhoods are off limits to Spark Experiences guests!  The City is your oyster, and it’s our pleasure to share it with you.  Learn more about what makes us the BEST San Francisco private tour provider.

San Francisco In Style

We do not accept your reservation and then farm you off to another luxury tour operator. That is not good manners to us. Instead, we do the opposite of many other luxury management companies and operate your private San Francisco tour ourselves.

This can mean heading to a quaint neighborhood for coffee on Sunday morning, or recommending window browsing at a boutique shopping promenade. This experience is about showing you the sights of San Francisco and tailoring them to you and your desires.

The word “tour” is overused these days. We like to think of it as creating a comfortable environment for you while we introduce you to the famous and less famous but noteworthy sites of San Francisco.

Transportation

Only the finest transportation is offered on your private San Francisco tour. We go the extra mile in a luxury Mercedes because you deserve it. We want your experience effortless so you can instead concentrate on enjoying San Francisco with your loved ones or other companions. No shuttle service with us; all your transportation is private, with a private tour guide.

Do you care to dine at one of San Francisco’s classic restaurants? Or sample homemade ice cream in Russian Hill? No matter your dietary limitations or allergies, we can show you the best foodie locations in our town; we can even give you a comprehensive list for you to use on your next visit. There is more to knowing a city than Googling.

Recommended Length

Whether you desire a stroll in Golden Gate Park to see the bison paddock or want to meander along the cliffs of the Pacific Ocean to witness a California sunset, our luxury tour guides can plan a private San Francisco tour tailored for you and your interests. Tell us how you prefer to do things and we’ll create a bespoke San Francisco itinerary as long or as short as you desire. How may we help?

Preparation

To make the most of your day, we suggest you dress warmly and in layers. San Francisco is a chilly city, especially in summer. It’s always easier to remove clothes than to not have enough. Otherwise, just show up and we’ll handle the rest. Privately exploring San Francisco is easy when you go with the right hosts.

Disclaimer for San Francisco

Obviously, not everyone is the same. That is why, whether you are here on business or leisure, each bespoke tour we operate is designed differently. You can explore as little or as much as you desire, and we operate rain or shine. We recommend you reserve your tour for when you arrive in San Francisco rather than on your final day.

Drivers are required to stay near our vehicles at all times. Sometimes routing may change due to road closure or city events, in which case we apologize in advance.

We will strive to make your experience unforgettable, but we are not afraid to refuse over-the-top or unreasonable requests.

Ready to Reserve?

The San Francisco prices, the homeless, and cold weather are often a surprise to the first-time visitor. That is why we design our bespoke tours to diplomatically introduce you to San Francisco, the good and the bad. That, we feel, is much better than pulling the wool over your eyes or you walking the downtown streets alone.

With one phone call, our private tour guides can begin to paint a picture for your unique understanding of San Francisco. We believe we set the bar the other tour companies should be reaching for.

Sample Luxury Private San Francisco Tour

For a Couple

Morning Agenda

Georgia and her fiancé Jack, both from England, contacted us to create an introductory private San Francisco experience for them. Jack was about to sign a five-year work contract in the city, and the couple wanted to make sure the move was right for both of them. They called us, let us know how long a tour they wanted (4-5 hours), and we tailored a private San Francisco tour to them. Georgia’s interests include coffee, art and reading, while Jack enjoys new cultures, athletics, and even Star Wars.

Below is an outline of the private tour we provided them, republished, with their permission, as an example of what we can offer.

Chinatown in-depth, including The Eastern Bakery and Tin Hau Temple

Lunch Agenda

Georgia and Jack knew they would have plenty of time to see the top attractions during their time here, so they readily agreed to our suggestion that we show them the less mainstream spots, the ones only a local might know, so they could learn the city better — and faster.

Their private tour day was a Sunday, so we took them to The Palace of Fine Arts to satisfy their mainstream San Francisco attraction checklist, and then directly to Fort Point, one of the more underrated landmarks in the city, with stellar views of the Bay and of the Golden Gate Bridge from underneath.

Afternoon Agenda

Upon our departure from Fort Point, we made our way to the Letterman Digital Arts Center, home of Lucas Film and a bronze Yoda statue, one of the only ones in the world and a pilgrimage destination for many Star Wars fans. Then, once Jack got his Return-of-the-Jedi fix, we made our way to Billionaire’s Row, an affluent strip of mansions in the Pacific Heights neighborhood, where we looked over a few houses, showcased the 332-step Lyon Street Steps (a beautiful staircase and local exercise spot), and toured the Swedenborgian Church, a somewhat-secret, local architectural masterpiece.

Saying Farewell

We ended our private tour with a visit to lesser-known Russian Hill, complete with historical storytelling and sweeping views of San Francisco Bay, and eventually made our way back to the Fairmont Hotel.

Jack and Georgia both agreed four hours is not nearly enough time to see the real San Francisco, but both were thankful for the introduction to the possibilities of the city and felt inspired to discover neighborhoods on their own in the years to come. Both also agreed that our experience opened their eyes to San Francisco beyond the large attractions.

A Quick Recap

By The Numbers

Our Mission

We wanted to give Jack and Georgia stories and attractions they wouldn’t find in a guidebook. We also wanted to empower them to feel comfortable and eager to explore this beautiful city on their own. Jack has accepted his job offer, and now we have two new friends who plan to call San Francisco home for years to come.

A Note from White Wolf Private Tours

Some might believe that to outline our private San Francisco tour and describe the methods of achieving our goals online for the competition to see and copy is foolish. But we believe that generosity of spirit, providing a good product, and word of mouth will continue to attract people who want to be hosted in San Francisco the right way. As no two people are alike, no two bespoke tour companies are duplicates of one another. We are proud to be White Wolf Private Tours, your luxury, private San Francisco tour specialists.

Getting around San Francisco

Getting around San Francisco is quite easy, considering the size of the city.

Walking or taking public transportation is the preferred option of travel with the streets being easy to navigate and the public transportation system easy to use.

The 'muni' (large municipal transportation system) operates buses, streetcar lines and San Francisco's famous cable cars, making it the most efficient way to get around the city.

What do I pack for San Francisco?

What to pack for your vacation to San Francisco mostly depends on what time of the year you're traveling in.

San Francisco sees mostly mild weather year-round, so t-shirts, shorts and jeans are a safe bet. Packing a few sweaters might also be wise, as the nights can get a little chilly.

You should also pack comfortable walking shoes, as that is one of the preferred ways of getting around the city. Sunscreen protects you from the sun's UV rays when you step outside.

What is the weather like in San Francisco?

San Francisco is a beautiful city to visit all year. It has a moderate maritime climate with mild winters and summers. Due to the city's close proximity to the Pacific Ocean, temperatures are steady throughout the year with averages of 45°F to 72°F. Rainfall is also fairly low compared to other parts of the country, with the wettest months being December through March.

Where is Lombard Street in San Francisco?

Known as being "the crookedest street in the world" and is one of the steepest street in the city of San Francisco, Lombard Street is located between Hyde and Leadenworth streets and is famous because of a zig-zagging, one-block section with 8 hairpin turns.

Hundreds of tourists flocks to this street to marvel at its incredible layout and breathtaking landscape.

What are the best hikes in San Francisco?

There are a bunch of different hikes around the San Francisco area if you're craving a little bit of nature's beauty from coastal walks to mountain trails. They include:

  • Lands End Trail
  • Batteries to Bluffs Trail
  • Twin Peaks Hike
  • Fort Funston Trail
  • Lover's Lane Trail
  • Angel Island Hike

How far is San Francisco from....?

San Francisco is a very popular city with tourists coming from all over the country to marvel at its beauty and famous landmarks. If you're traveling from cities within California or its surrounding states, chances are you'll be driving. Below is how far away San Francisco is from its surrounding cities by car:

  • San Francisco is about 48 miles from San Jose, making the journey by car just under an hour.
  • Palo Alto is 33 miles from San Francisco, making it about a 40-minute drive.
  • San Francisco is a 2-hour drive from Monterey in California, making it a 118-mile one-way trip.
  • San Francisco is roughly 192 miles from Yosemite National Park in California. The journey by car would take you around 4 hours.
  • Lake Tahoe is located right on the state lines of California and Nevada, roughly 210 miles from San Francisco. It would take you about three and a half hours to drive there.

How deep is the San Francisco Bay?

Surprisingly the San Francisco Bay is quite shallow, with an average depth of about 43 feet.

At its deepest point, which is right under the Golden Gate Bridge, the bay stands at 360 feet.

At its shallowest point, the depth of the bay is only about 15 - 17 feet which is at the northern and southern areas, respectively.

Is Alcatraz haunted?

Alcatraz prison was closed in March of 1963 due to how expensive it was to maintain. It is completely isolated from the mainland, and a lot of resources had to be brought in. The facility itself required too much restoration and regular upkeep.

During its time, Alcatraz was known as one of the harshest prisons in the US and housed some of the country's most notorious criminals. It's little wonder reports have suggested paranormal activity within the prison, including ghost sightings and unexplained noises.

How long is the Golden Gate Bridge?

The Golden Gate Bridge is one of San Francisco's most famous landmarks and has been since its construction in 1933.

This bridge connects San Francisco to Marin County, spanning a massive 2 miles. It features stunning architecture that makes for some great photos.

What is the weather like in Muir Woods?

The weather in Muir Woods is much the same as in San Francisco but a little cooler, with temperatures mostly staying in the 70s (°F).

If you're walking through the woods in the early morning or late afternoon, you'll likely see fog. You should bring appropriate cold-weather clothes, such as sweaters, as it can get chilly with the dense tree cover.

San Francisco - Private Travel

The postcard allure of the Golden Gate Bridge, the quaint cable cars, the seven rolling hills, the Victorian rowhouses, Fisherman’s Wharf, the Giants, Union Square – San Francisco has a number of stories to tell you, from Alcatraz Island to San Bruno Mountain. As the cultural, commercial, and financial center of Northern California, the city has a lot of hats to wear, which it does so admirably. A socially liberal vibe sets the tone, while a relaxed West Coast attitude sets the pace. You yourself simply take it from there.

As a culinary trendsetter, one of the first to champion farm-to-table philosophy, San Francisco delivers more gastronomic exploits than you will have room for. Its restaurant kitchens are anchored to local organic farming, a fantastic accompaniment to the region’s superb seafood. And with wine regions like Sonoma and Napa within easy reach, the wine lists are an oenophile’s California dream. San Francisco’s vibrant neighborhoods are a testament to its history of inclusion and diversity. Haight-Ashbury, hippie

headquarters during the 1960s, is still eclectic and eccentric; its record shops and vintage stores will take you back. Mid-Market, home to the lavish St. Regis and Hotel G, has transformed into a hotspot for hot restaurants and boutique hotels. North Beach, a.k.a. Little Italy, is awash in colorful terraced buildings and Italian cafés to laze away the afternoon in.

And in the Mission District, Latin culture meets the tech world, resulting in a wild mix of new cocktail bars and taco joints. Green space gets a green light here, with elements of the outdoors both abundant and verdant. A picnic in Golden Gate Park or tea in the Japanese Tea Garden, perhaps? Beachcombing and hiking are must-dos, with Baker Beach, Marshall Beach, Battery Godfrey, and the Batteries to Bluff trail all yielding unique views of the city few tourists manage to see.

Tips for Booking a Private Tour in San Francisco

bridge covered in fog

  • BE CLEAR ON WHAT IS INCLUDED AND WHAT IS NOT

It’s important to know what isn’t included in a tour before you book, or you may be shocked by the extra costs like meals, wine tasting fees, and park entrance passes.

These extra costs add up quickly and need to be considered in the cost of booking a tour.

The tour usually does not include gratuity for the guide, driver, restaurant servers, and tasting room staff which should be factored into what you will spend.

Make sure to check if they’re picking you up from your hotel in San Francisco so you can plan accordingly.

It’s equally important to know what’s included so that you dress appropriately and show up prepared for any physical requirements like riding a bike for six miles.

  • CHECK THE WEATHER

If you are going to book a special tour for your trip to San Francisco, check the weather first.

There is no point in taking a tour to see the Golden Gate Bridge if you won’t be able to see it because it is socked in with fog .

The same applies to riding in an open-top vehicle on a rainy day.

As most people like to book in advance, you can also look at the seasonal weather for the time of year you plan to visit to determine the chance of getting good weather.

  • Summer – Foggy Season, and it can be chilly.
  • Fall – Dry and sunny to start, followed by colder days and rain
  • Winter – On and off rain and cold weather
  • Spring – Less rain and the days begin to warm up
  • DRESS APPROPRIATELY

san francisco luxury tours

If you come to San Francisco expecting lots of California sunshine, you may be very surprised by how cold it is.

Summers can be shockingly cold as the fog blows off the ocean with its cold breezes.

Make sure you dress in layers and are prepared for your tour of the city or a visit to the wine country .

This is especially important if your itinerary includes bike riding or crossing the Golden Gate Bridge.

Many tours offer open-top vehicles that make it easier to see the sights but also leave you exposed to the elements.

If you are cold and unprepared for the weather on your tour, it’s your fault, and the companies will not refund the cost if you return to your hotel to warm up.

  • DON’T FORGET TO TIP YOUR DRIVER

The cost of the tour does not include a tip for the driver or guide.

These individuals are usually employed by the tour company and rely on the tips they make from travelers to make a decent living.

They pour their hearts into learning everything they can about the destinations to make the tour interesting and work hard to keep you safe simultaneously.

Although cash is used less than ever, ensure you have some on hand to tip at the end of the tour if they do a good job.

A tip of about $10 to $15 is appropriate in most cases unless the tour is an all-day trip, and you should increase this by double.

  • BOOK MULTIPLE TOURS

Most tours only visit a section of the city, so you will still have so much more to see.

Booking multiple tours is not only a great way to experience more of San Francisco, but it will also maximize your stay if your trip is short.

You could book a 2-Hour Private Jeep Tour of San Francisco , then follow it up with a San Francisco Private Food Walking Tour in the Mission District the next day.

If you are on a budget, you can book a Private Walking Tour of San Francisco and then take a Private Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito Bike Tour for less money than many individual tours.

FAQs on Private Tours of San Francisco

What is the best way to tour san francisco.

Touring in one of these vehicles provides the opportunity to zip around the city and see more sights quickly.

How many days do you need to tour San Francisco?

Where to eat, drink, explore and stay in the Golden City

Sunset, Painted ladies, San Francisco, California, America

Home to everyone from hippes to techies, fashionistas and families, San Francisco is the city with something for everyone (plus a serious dose of fog every now and then). Here's why you should make it top of your travel list for 2019 - and what to do once you get there.

Enjoy panoramic views from Cityscape

Located on the 46th floor of the Hilton Union Square, Cityscape bar boasts a spectacular 360-degree view of San Francisco. Grab yourself a window seat before sunset to see the city bathed in a golden glow, then enjoy cocktails, nibbles or a glass of wine as twilight descends and the city lights come alive.

Eat seafood at Fisherman's Wharf

Buzzy and tourist-packed, Fisherman's Wharf is one of San Francisco's busiest neighbourhoods, renowned for its delicious seafood. Wander along the many waterfront stalls and restaurants and sample everything from lobster rolls and breaded calamari, to clam chowder in bowls made from sourdough - one of the city's most famous exports. Meander along to Pier 39 and you'll also be met with the sight and sound (and smell) of the huge colony of sea lions who've made the destination their home.

For more, visit Visitfishermanswharf.com

Ride the cable car

After you've had your fill of seafood, hop on one of San Francisco's beloved cable cars - the last manually operated cable car system in the world, and one of the easiest (and most Instagram-friendly) ways to navigate your way across the notoriously hilly city. While queues for the trams (or the trolleys, as they are fondly known) can be long in the city centre, you'll likely be able to hop on quickly and easily from the waterfront; there are three routes that span many of the popular spots in the city.

A single ticket costs $7. For more visit Sfmta.com

Stay at the Clift Royal Sonesta

Rest weary heads at the Clift Royal Sonesta Hotel, equally suited for those visiting San Francisco for business or leisure. Inspired by the heritage luxury hotels of the 20th century, the Clift features elegant, modern decor with a decidedly artistic flair; the interiors were recently renovated by Philippe Starck and you'll find striking furniture by the likes of Salvador Dalí peppered throughout the corridors and communal areas. By day, enjoy a slice of home and relax in the Living Room, designed to feel like an old English Club, or by night, enjoy a cocktail in the sumptuous Redwood Room, an art-deco inspired San Francisco institution. Just keep your eye on those digital artworks - all might not be quite as it seems...

Book now at Sonesta.com

Visit Alcatraz

Almost too obvious to include in a San Francisco travel guide, Alcatraz has been attracting millions of tourists from every corner of the globe since it opened for visitors in 1973. While it might already be top of your to-do list, it pays to be well-prepared; tickets are known to sell out months in advance, so book as soon as you know your travel dates. The audio guide is one of the best you're ever likely to experience, giving all the grisly details of its former life as a maximum security prison. The bravest of visitors can even step inside a solitary confinement cell...

Bike across the Golden Gate bridge

San Francisco's most iconic feature, the Golden Gate Bridge, can of course be viewed from afar, or while you're speeding across it by car, but the best way to really see the bridge is to bike across it. Blazing Saddles offers a selection of guided and self-guided bike tours that see you peddling your way along the city's picturesque waterfront, over the bridge itself and to the charming town of Sausalito on the other side (we'd recommend the guided tour for the wealth of local knowledge you pick up on the way). Stop midway across the bridge to see if you can spot dolphins, seals and the occasional whale in the surrounding waters.

The Golden Gate Bridge guided tour costs $35 for children and $55 for adults. For more, visit Blazingsaddles.com

Spend an afternoon in Sausalito

Whether you choose to bike or drive there, its worth carving out a day to enjoy the seaside city of Sausalito, famed for its spectacular views of the Golden Gate Bridge and its historic collection of houseboats, built after WWII by its once-thriving community of artists, musicians and other bohemian creatives. Wander along the picturesque seafront and soak up the atmosphere before enjoying a meal at one of the waterfront restaurants; Pacific Catch and Scoma's are are renowned for delicious fresh seafood, while Copita offers the best tacos in town.

Pay a visit to Lombard Street

Lombard Street is a much-visited San Franciscan road famous for its steep incline and section featuring eight hairpin turns in the space of one block. Claimed to be "the crookedest street in the world" the location attracts millions of visitors (approximately two million per year, in fact) driving down it to experience the twists and turns. The pretty brick road and colourful gardens either side means that it's aesthetically pleasing, too; particularly in the summer.

San Francisco Luxury SUV Wine Tours To Discover Napa Valley In Style Announced

Elite San Francisco limo and shuttle company Limo SF VIP (888-888-0195) announces exclusive Napa Valley wine tours by luxury SUV.

san francisco luxury tours

South San Francisco, United States - April 12, 2024 /PressCable/ —

The newly announced service will give tourists and California residents alike the opportunity to discover Napa Valley’s wine country in comfort and elevated style. A full-service limo and shuttle company, Limo SF VIP is home to a fleet of luxury vehicles that include Cadillac, Lincoln, and GMC SUVs, each of which is air conditioned and can accommodate up to five passengers.

More information is available at https://limosfvip.com

While Napa Valley is one of the most recognized wine regions in the world, it is also one of the smallest, making it an ideal day trip destination. As it is approximately 70 miles from San Francisco’s International Airport, visitors flying in from elsewhere can book a spacious, high-end SUV through Limo SF VIP for direct travel throughout the region with their luggage safely secured and without worrying about navigating unfamiliar routes.

“We specialize in crafting unforgettable experiences through our bespoke Napa Valley wine tours available to groups of all sizes,” says a spokesperson for the company. “Our fleet is as diverse as the Napa Valley vineyards, offering spacious and luxurious travel provided by highly trained and experienced chauffeurs.”

Individual Limo SF VIP wine tour itineraries are tailored to client specifications and can include extra amenities, preferred estates and tasting rooms, and additional stops along the way to include local boutiques, galleries, and Michelin-starred restaurants.

The company’s professional chauffeurs are well-versed in the region’s wineries and points of interest and strive to provide a travel service greater than the sum of its parts. Guests are treated to an experience rather than simply a visit which, associates say, is what differentiates a wine tour by luxury SUV from one by rental car.

In addition to Napa Valley wine tours, Limo SF VIP offers luxury airport transfers, executive transportation, and premium vehicles for special events, corporate events, sporting events, and weddings.

The company’s fleet includes BMW and Mercedes sedans, luxury SUVs, executive Mercedes Sprinter vans, mini coaches, and motorcoaches.

A recent client says, “We had a great experience with Limo SF VIP. Their concierge service was professional, our Sprinter van was clean and perfect for our trip to Napa, and our driver was professional, prepared, and very kind.”

12 gorgeous San Francisco restaurants to take Mother’s Day to the next level

san francisco luxury tours

Whether they’re perched high on foggy hills or sitting on the dock of the bay, there are so many beautiful restaurants to choose from in San Francisco.

A historic Chinatown banquet hall got a reboot but held onto souvenirs from its past life, including a striking wooden pergola. Live trees sway in the dining room at a family-owned Mexican American spot. At a MICHELIN-starred seafood restaurant, a prolific taxidermy collection fuels the lodge-inspired ambience.

These places serve exquisite views, drop-dead gorgeous interiors, and sensational food. Read on for a guide to the 12 most beautiful restaurants in San Francisco.

Empress by Boon (Chinatown)

empress-by-boon-credit-jean-bai

Elegant Empress is a historic banquet hall that has offered city views above the lanterns of Chinatown since the 1960s. But when it reopened after a seven-year shutdown in 2021, design studio Atelier LLYS unveiled an ocean of blues, intricate lattices, and screens, all while preserving the original wooden pergola. Acclaimed chef Ho Chee Boon now serves an upscale tasting menu, still staying true to the restaurant’s Cantonese heritage, but with nods to his native Malaysia.

Elena’s (West Portal)

elenas-credit-elenas

Elena’s wows with high ceilings, tall mirrored arches, and a trio of live ficus trees that sway in the dining room. Co-owner Elena Duggan, who runs the atmospheric Mexican American restaurant with her brother, John Duggan, layered lots of neutrals, natural woods, and Calacatta Oro marble with gold veins. Don’t skip the crab enchilada combo plate, and while you wait for your food, try to spot the carved wooden angel wings, sourced from an abandoned tequila hacienda in Jalisco, Mexico.

AKIKOS (SoMa)

akikos-credit-garrett-rowland

Welcome to the sushi show. AKIKOS is the omakase authority in San Francisco and moved into a dazzling new home —a highrise in the East Cut—in 2023. The new digs are sleek and modern, complete with a “chef’s stage” bathed in golden light. Here, the sushi pros drop jewel-like bites such as soy-cured bluefin tuna nigiri, directly on the bar. Rest assured that even AKIKOS tables have a clear view of the action at the counter.

Che Fico (NoPa)

che-fico-credit-eric-wolfinger

Che Fico is an old auto body shop turned Cali Italian star. Designed by Jon de la Cruz, the dining room is decked with exposed concrete, wood and steel beams, and red accents tricking out the tiled floors and leather booths. Diners can’t get enough of the plant-patterned wallpaper or the climate-controlled salumi room—an enticing preview of the Italian feast to come, which could include antipasti platters, fresh pasta, and Neapolitan pies topped with pineapple and fermented chiles.

Niku Steakhouse (Design District)

niku-steakhouse-credit-joseph-weaver

Everything about this MICHELIN-starred steakhouse is luxe, from its giant golden door to its dark wooden walls and plush leather chairs. A kappo-style counter complete with double grills is responsible for a top-notch Japanese American menu that includes Wagyu imperial tomahawks, pickled market vegetables, and Parker House rolls. If you’re considering a nightcap, choose from a wall of backlit whiskey bottles.

Sobre Mesa (Oakland)

sobre-mesa-credit-sobre-mesa

This cocktail lounge is the brainchild of Top Chef alum Nelson German, who dipped into his Dominican roots to create an Afro Caribbean hotspot that dishes up anchovy tostones and steak empanadas. Sobre Mesa is splashed in jungle-green paint and decorated with a tangle of live plants, plus a glowy leaf mural by local artist David Cho, along with other neon-electric accents that scream “party.”

La Connessa (Potrero Hill)

la-connessa-credit-la-connessa

The centerpiece at this ultra-modern trattoria is a big, beautiful bar that curves around its black-and-white tiled floors. The slate blue and walnut wood interiors, decked with brass hardware, are tributes to chic Milanese cafes. It’s a stylish backdrop for La Connessa’s flawless Italian classics, like swirls of lemon spaghetti and crispy chicken smashed under a brick.

Leo’s Oyster Bar (FiDi)

leos-oyster-bar-credit-leos-oyster-bar-min

Leo’s was into maximalist wallpaper and lush plants before they became ubiquitous in restaurants around the country. Ace designers Ken Fulk and Jon de la Cruz had fun designing this retro oyster bar, adorning it with playful accents like wallpaper splattered with palm leaves, a pink onyx bar, black-and-white floors, and frilly ferns. It’s an over-the-top aesthetic that can only be matched by the restaurant’s larger-than-life seafood tower—and the lobster roll, one of the city’s best.

Boulevard (Embarcadero)

boulevard-credit-boulevard

Boulevard is a fabulous Belle Epoque-style dining room on the ground floor of the century-old Audiffred Building. The Californian restaurant, known for seasonal hits like a popular heritage pork chop and baked Pacific oysters, is yet another vision by Ken Fulk. The design whiz treated the historic space to a 2021 renovation and added peacock blues, soft velvets, and feather patterns. Luckily, he kept some of the most striking vintage touches, including iron lamps and hand-blown glass fixtures.

Miller & Lux (Mission Bay)

miller-lux-credit-miller-lux

This super glam steakhouse by celeb chef Tyler Florence sits behind the spaceship-like Chase Center. Its two-floor, 7,000-square-foot interiors are a tribute to all things mid-century modern with extravagantly deep booths, twelve-sided columns, and hickory arches. Old-school carts roll though the dining room, serving dry-aged steak, Dover sole, and Caesar salad—tossed tableside, of course.

Angler (Embarcadero)

angler-credit-adahlia-cole

MICHELIN-starred Angler channels a sophisticated fishing lodge and stands out for a live-fire open kitchen, exposed brick, and plenty of wood paneling. But it also shines for its walls, which are covered with a prolific taxidermy collection of stag heads and trophy fish. Expect a bold seafood-focused menu featuring diver scallops, Mount Lassen trout, and hot-fried frog legs with cardamom crème fraîche.

The Garden Court at Palace Hotel (SoMa)

the-garden-court-luxury-collection-credit-the-garden-court-luxury-collection

This luxury hotel opened in 1875, when horses pulled carriages into its courtyard. It was rebuilt after the 1906 earthquake, and today, its soaring atrium sits under a glass dome lined with marble columns and crystal chandeliers. Settle in for a regal brunch or tea—the menu is filled with daytime favorites like raspberry lemon crumble French toast and a wild smoked salmon and caviar omelet.

Travel | Four Bay Area properties awarded 3 ‘Keys’ from new Michelin hotel guide

Eleven hotels earned the top three-key distinction, in a list that focused on major markets rather than being truly comprehensive..

A tree house room at the Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur.

By Nikki Ekstein | Bloomberg

Last year, when World’s 50 Best issued its first global ranking of hotels, only two properties in the US made the cut: the Equinox and Aman New York hotels, both in Manhattan.

Now Michelin has arrived stateside, in its second-ever presentation of “keys”—a new system from the eponymous tiremaker that’s doling out one, two or three key emblems, like its restaurant stars but to the world’s worthiest hotels.

Out of more than 1,000 luxury hotels across the country, 11 were awarded three keys. The winners were all in California and New York, from Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur to Canyon Ranch Woodside and the Whitby Hotel in Midtown. Aman New York, echoing its position on World’s 50 Best, was also included; Equinox, meanwhile, received no keys at all.

Importantly, keys were only distributed to hotels in seven primary markets across the US where the Michelin Guide also reviews restaurants: New York City, California, Chicago, Florida, Colorado, Atlanta and Washington, D.C. Michelin says next year’s ceremony will expand to include more of the US.One key denotes a “special” stay, two make it “exceptional” and three reflect hotels that are “extraordinary.”

Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guide, has described the criteria for these awards in highly subjective terms. Earlier this month he told Bloomberg that these most exceptional properties will be judged based off “the experience” alone. Rather than requiring them to adhere to certain definitions—like having a spa, pool or minimum staff-to-guest ratios—the hotel experience “has to be memorable and singular in a way that will give people a feel for local character,” he explained. At the awards ceremony, he built upon that sentiment. “We’re not a checklist of amenities,” he said.

“We have boots on the grounds, inspectors working the field in every country, leaving no stone unturned and also looking for discoveries, new openings, in order to be fully up to date in their recommendation,” Poullennec said in remarks during the key presentation.

The intimate US ceremony, held at New York City’s Museum of Art and Design, is the second such presentation by Michelin this month, with the first-ever awards being handed out to French hotels on April 8, in Paris. At that event, 24 hotels were awarded three keys, including five of Paris’ 12 “palace” hotels. And more such ceremonies are coming: Awards will be announced in Spain next week and in Italy on May 7, before heading to Japan in July.

To some US hoteliers, Michelin’s recognition holds outsize importance. In background conversations leading up to the event, owners of several new independent hotels in major cities held hope that earning multiple keys could help them compete with better-established luxury brands such as Aman, Rosewood or Ritz-Carlton. That may be the case for the boutique London-based Firmdale Hotels, whose two New York hotels, the Whitby and the Crosy Street Hotel, both earned three keys.

Others in more remote locations expected that any honor could help them lure talent—places like Twin Farms in Barnard, Vermont, or Blackberry Farm in Walland, Tennessee, for example. Unfortunately the prospect will have to wait.

It’s not that Michelin is the only designation that consumers can use to parse quality hotels. Walk into many of the key-awarded hotels, and you might see a Forbes’ five-star plaque—that honor was given to some 80 luxury hotels in the US in 2023, and American travel magazines dole out similar recognitions each year. But Michelin’s reputation spans much of the globe, in a way that the others do not.

“Our users say that when they are looking for places to stay, they will spend on average 10 hours on 10 different platforms to do so,” Poullennec said at the ceremony. “They’re at a loss. There is a demand for real recommendations and independent ones, that you can trust and go beyond brand labels, and that apply from one country to another—a global reference.”

Still, there are many skeptics. Michelin’s entry into the hotel market comes at a time when the company is looking for new revenue streams and attracting criticism for expanding its Michelin Dining Guides in a way that prioritizes destinations with big marketing budgets, even when they don’t have the restaurant quality to back it up.

The Atlanta Michelin Guide, for instance was sponsored by the local tourism board in a deal worth $1 million, but no restaurant in the city earned more than a single star. Its inclusion as one of the first destination in the hotel keys presentation will come as a surprise to luxury hotel afficcionados; the city is not widely known as a hub for luxury hotels, and only three hotels in the city were included, each with one key.

Pouillennec tells Bloomberg the overlap is because restaurant critics need places to sleep; that made it logistically feasible to prioritize these places. Although, as he told Bloomberg earlier in Paris, they’re not excluding the possibility of sponsored hotel guides in the future.

Also leading to skepticism about the awards is Michelin’s acquisition of Tablet Hotels, which took place in 2018 for an undisclosed sum; it’s a curated booking platform for luxury and boutique hotels that features some 6,000 hotels globally and around 950 properties in the US.

The technology gives Michelin a place where it can facilitate bookings for its recommended hotels, earn commissions from them, and also collect feedback from guests about their stays. As a result, some hoteliers have wondered whether Michelin has prioritized Tablet properties in its inspections; the company says reviews are completely independent and carried out by full-time employees, but adds that every hotel it recognizes is immediately bookable on its website.

“Nothing matters more than the independence of our recommendations,” Poullennec said.

In all, 124 hotels in the US were recognized with keys. Here is the full list of winners divided by market:

The Rolls-Royce arrival at the Reserve

Tarmac meet-and-greets. Exclusive airport lounges behind well-marked doors. Rolls-Royce transfers. Velvet ropes. These luxuries almost feel like something out of time, given the current obsession with discretion. But that’s what makes Madeira’s new Reserve hotel refreshing—it’s not afraid to be a place for people who want to flaunt their VIP status.

Rather, it leans into that attention-seeking, starting with its perch atop the Savoy Palace, a plant-covered behemoth of a hotel that dominates the cityscape of Funchal, the island’s capital. It shows off its hotel-within-the-hotel concept, with a separate entrance, top-hatted doormen and a guests-only elevator—the only one in the building to have a bench. The local press excitedly reported that Madeira’s most famous son, Cristiano Ronaldo, rang in 2024 watching the New Year’s fireworks from the rooftop.

And while most guests aren’t anywhere near that notable, the hotel staff does its best to make them feel like they are. The website's landing page promises that clients “will be accompanied by true luxury gatekeepers ready to make you feel like the most relevant person in the world.”

The rooftop infinity pool

Perhaps that’s excessive. But it’s undeniably convenient. Guests have access to a dedicated concierge—always at the ready on WhatsApp and good at learning every guest’s name—who does usual things like managing spa appointments and restaurant reservations and quickly answers less usual ones, like looking up the price of a postcard stamp or the points of sale and designer of the groovy ceramic fruit on display in the guests-only lounge, the Jacarandá Club.

Huawei’s Pura 70 Ultra Beats iPhone With Pioneering New Feature

Sh gun episode 10 review a powerful finale but not what i was expecting, the trump media stock price djt is about to adjust down by 22 7.

That designer would be Madeira native Nina Andrade Silva, who designed the Savoy Palace, which opened five years ago. She’s known for going all-in on wow factor designs, including the lace-inspired railings all over the hotel and the 33-foot-high lobby chandelier made of some four miles of metal chain.

A guest room in the Reserve

Her signature is still welcomely evident in the public areas of the main hotel, including the enormous, glittering outdoor pool at street level, and the forest-inspired spa, which at 33,000 square feet, is one of the largest in Europe. But to give the Reserve its own identity when they carved it out from the Savoy Palace, the owners commissioned local firm RH+ Arquitectos (who also worked on the main hotel that opened five years ago) to give the space a refresh.

The 40 rooms of the Reserve—on the top floors of what was previously a 349-room hotel—all have ocean views and an island-inspired color palette: serene shades of blue, brown, gray and green. There’s abundant light and space inside and another living area outdoors, sometimes with a private plunge pool.

Along with those, the rooms over the Reserve share a quiet solarium, jetted tub and infinity-edge pool 17 floors above the everything of Funchal. The facilities are a mirror image of those that are shared by the Savoy Palace’s other 300 rooms on the opposite end of the rooftop, but of course with far fewer people.

The dining room at Nikkei

The Reserve also has a second guests-only restaurant (besides the complementary a la carte breakfast and all-day dining menu at the Jacarandá Club). Nikkei is an Asian fusion project from noted sushiman Miguel Bértolo, who consulted with the hotel to develop a menu of Japanese dishes infused with flavors of Peru.

As is fitting for a hotel designed for VIPs, the dishes have their share of flourishes like a Wagyu beef starter with nitsuke egg yolk, truffle and ponzu sauce over parrotfish sashimi, and sumptuous scarlet prawns served over rice as donburi. And from its 16th-floor perch, it has dizzying views over the vertiginous landscape of Funchal and the hills beyond. It’s a place to take pleasure in being above it all.
