Cruel World Festival 2024 Announced Featuring Tones on Tail, Duran Duran, Adam Ant, Ministry, Simple Minds, Heaven 17, and More!

In what’s shaping up to be a monumental third annual Cruel World festival , set for May 11, 2024, at the picturesque Brookside at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, the lineup reads like a who’s who of new wave and post-punk royalty. Headliners Duran Duran, riding the wave of their sixteenth studio album “Danse Macabre,” are set to bring a hauntingly melodious energy to the stage.

The festival boasts a robust roster, including the likes of Interpol, Blondie, and Simple Minds, who are poised to deliver performances resonating with both nostalgic charm and contemporary relevance. Placebo and Soft Cell are also on the bill, promising to blend their quintessential sounds with the festival’s eclectic atmosphere.

Notably, Ministry will revisit their roots, performing tracks from “With Sympathy” and “Twitch,” offering a glimpse into their formative synthpop and 80s industrial sound. Gary Numan, another pioneer of the genre, is slated to perform his groundbreaking album “The Pleasure Principle,” ensuring a journey through the synthesizer-driven landscapes of the late 70s.

Adding to this rich tapestry of sounds, Tones on Tail, featuring Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins of Bauhaus and Love and Rockets fame, are set to be a special guest.

Also gracing the stage is DREAMCAR, the supergroup amalgamation of AFI’s Davey Havok and members of No Doubt, whose new wave renditions add a contemporary twist to the genre.

With a lineup that spans the gamut from The Jesus and Mary Chain to The Mission UK, and from The Stranglers to French Police, the festival is more than just a concert; it’s a cultural touchstone that encapsulates the spirit of an era. It’s a convergence of the past and present, a celebration of the enduring impact these bands have had on music and culture.

Duran Duran Lead 2024 Cruel World Fest Lineup

Duran Duran will headline the 2024 edition of the new wave-inspired Cruel World festival, which will touch down again May 11 at Brookside at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Ca.

The stacked lineup also features Interpol, Blondie, Simple Minds, the Jesus and Mary Chain, Adam Ant, Placebo, Soft Cell and Ministry, which will perform songs from their 1986 sophomore album Twitch backed by a symphony. Bauhaus/Love and Rockets members Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins’ beloved ’80s project Tones on Tail is listed as a special guest.

Davey Havok and the musical members of No Doubt are reuniting Dreamcar. Last year, the band performed at Muzack benefit show in Los Angeles and this is their first proper performance since 2017.

Cruel World is rounded out by appearances from vintage acts such as Gary Numan (performing The Pleasure Principle ), Heaven 17, the Stranglers, the Mission U.K., General Public, Lol Tolhurst and Budgie, the Alarm and the Motels. The Faint, TR/ST, ADULT. and Model/Actriz will also perform.

Soft Cell , Sir Tom Jones and Kool and The Gang have been added to the bill for the UK’s Hampton Court Palace Festival 2023. The annual summer series of spectacular open-air concerts returns to the royal landmark from June 6 to June 17.

Welsh music legend Tom will top the bill on June 14, synth-pop pioneers Soft Cell – comprising Marc Almond and David Ball – headline on June 7, and funk and soul legends Kool and The Gang on June 9.

Grace Jones , Kaiser Chiefs , Bjorn Again and Rick Astley were among the first acts confirmed to play the event. The Leeds hitmakers headline on June 10, the ABBA tribute act are set for June 16, while Astley will perform on June 17.

Artists perform in an intimate 3,000-seat auditorium in Base Court, set against the backdrop of Henry VIII’s magnificent Tudor Palace and attendees can enjoy picnics, drinks and street food in the Palace Gardens, whilst waterside gazebos are also available to purchase for those that want to sit back and relax in luxury.

Last year, the likes of George Benson, Jack Savoretti, Crowded House and Kacey Musgraves wowed at HCP Festival.

Over the last 27 years, performers at the festival have included Kylie Minogue, Bastille, Nile Rogers & CHIC, Lionel Richie , Gary Barlow, Paloma Faith, The Beach Boys , Liza Minnelli, Elton John , Eric Clapton , Dionne Warwick, Andrea Bocelli, Bryan Adams , Katie Melua and Ringo Starr .

Tickets for Soft Cell and Kool and The Gang are on sale now. Tickets for Tom Jones go on general sale from Wednesday 8th March with an exclusive 24hr pre-sale to email subscribers on Tuesday March 7 via the event’s official website .
