Move over Kirk -- Christopher Pike is the captain now. In "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds," a spinoff of " Star Trek: Discovery " and prequel to " Star Trek: The Original Series ," "Star Trek" fans are getting a glimpse of the U.S.S. Enterprise under the command of Captain Christopher Pike. "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" is streaming exclusively on Paramount+.

Strange New Worlds takes place a decade before the events of The Original Series . Yes, it is! In an exciting development, CBS will be celebrating Star Trek Day on September 8, 2023, with the special one-night-only airing of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds ' first two episodes . Season 1 Episode 1 will air at 8 PM ET, immediately followed by Episode 2 "Children of the Comet".

Ahead of the Season 1 premiere, Paramount+ went all-in on the marketing for Strange New Worlds . The official trailer was posted to the Paramount+ YouTube page in April 2022. The spectacle on display in the trailer proves this new series is looking to push the boundaries of Star Trek on TV and promises epic new adventures with fan-favorite characters. On April 29, a week ahead of the premiere episode, Paramount+ further built the hype by releasing a 22-minute behind-the-scenes special hosted by franchise vet Will Wheaton detailing how the history of Star Trek led to this new chapter. This clip was released simultaneously with a look at the official intro of Strange New Worlds . Another behind-the-scenes look was released on April 30, giving newcomers to Star Trek a rundown into just how long this new show has been in the works.

Strange New Worlds is available to stream through Paramount+ . The premiere episode was released to Paramount+ subscribers on May 5, 2022, with the following nine episodes released weekly after the premiere and concluding on July 7. The second season premiered on June 15, 2023, and ended on August 10. Strange New Worlds joins the extensive catalog of other Star Trek content that comes with the service. It’s the first live-action Star Trek series to have its series premiere episode bow on Paramount+, whereas the show’s predecessors were part of CBS All Access before that service was rebranded to Paramount+. First-time subscribers to Paramount+ will receive a free seven-day trial before being billed for their selected plan. Paramount+ is available in two tiers: supported with ads for $4.99 a month, and ad-free premium viewing for $9.99 a month. Their plans can be paid for through monthly or annual payments, with the annual plan saving you 16% on the monthly price.​​​

Season 1 of Strange New Worlds got a DVD and Blu-ray release on March 21, 2023 , from CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment. And that's not all. A new entry in the " Star Trek " universe, "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds," premieres May 5. The show will be available to stream exclusively on Paramount Plus . 

"Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" is a spin-off of "Star Trek: Discovery," which is also a Paramount Plus original series. Both shows serve as prequels to "Star Trek: The Original Series." Anson Mount stars as Captain Christopher Pike and the show explores his time in command of the USS Enterprise before James T. Kirk replaced him. Mount first played Pike on "Discovery."

Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck reprise their roles from "Discovery" as well; Romijn plays Number One, Pike's second-in-command, and Peck plays Spock, a half-Vulcan science officer who first appeared in "The Original Series." The new show also features other characters that debuted in the original "Star Trek" show from the 1960s, including M'Benga (Babs Olusanmokun), Nurse Chapel (Jess Bush), and Nyota Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding).  

Early reviews of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" have been positive, and the show currently holds a "100% Fresh" rating on review-aggregator Rotten Tomatoes .

You can watch "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" exclusively on Paramount Plus . The first episode premieres on May 5, and new episodes debut every Thursday through July 7.
