Premium India in Depth

Intrepid Premium India in Depth (November 13 - 25) Mumbai - Delhi Excellent tour leader along with very good local informative guides. 3 changes in accommodation; Mumbai - Gordon House Hotel is excellent, well priced and only 1 street back from Gateway to India but the company changed to Fariyas Hotel, Mumbai which was been renovated as well as painted so very noisy, couldn't use the pool and scaffolding all around. Definitely not ideal. Our second night in Delhi was also cancelled at Jaypee Siddharth Hotel though privately booked and paid for months before the tour so had to find alternative accommodation while on the tour and they told the travel agents they were "closed for renovations" however the tour was booked and stayed there and no renovations were occuring. Hadoti Palace Hotel in Bundi looked nice and rooms were big but not clean especially the toilet and shower. Otherwise all hotels were very nice and rated accurately; cleaning the showers/washrooms would have helped with the mouldy smell but that is somewhat consistent in most countries. November is the start of wedding season in India which are very loud and noisy and have no time restrictions so be prepared for that if going at this time of year. Tour involves quite a number of days travelling in a bus/coach for 4 - 6 hours with a stop every 2 - 3 hours. Rest stops are OK at best with only snack food to purchase. Adjusting the departure time would have helped with timeframes as quite a few days we were getting lunch around 2 - 3 pm when hotel kitchens were closed. Definitely not enough free time for shopping on your own with organized evenings most nights or in a venue on the outside of towns. Toured the markets but they were only a walk through with the group and no time to stop and shop. Restaurants and food was amazing and no one was unwell on the trip. 2 days in Ranthambhore Park was too long and could have done in 1.5 days with more time in Agra. Overall a very good trip for myself and my father (aged 79).

12 Days Gujarat Wildlife Tour Package with Asiatic Lions from Mumbai Tour

12 Days Gujarat Wildlife Tour Package with Asiatic Lions from Mumbai

I had an amazing experience with the 12 Days Gujarat Wildlife Tour Package with Asiatic Lions . From the beginning to the end, the tour was professionally organized and the tour guides were knowledgeable, helpful and accommodating. During the tour, I had the opportunity to see some of Gujarat's best wildlife sites such as the Gir National Park and Little Rann of Kutch Wildlife Sanctuary. I had the opportunity to observe and learn more about the wildlife and their habitats, and we were even lucky enough to spot a few Asiatic Lions during the trip! The accommodation provided was top notch and we even had the chance to try some authentic Gujarati cuisine. Overall, this was a fantastic trip that I would highly recommend to anyone looking to explore the wonders of Gujarat.

Allanta and Ellora are impressive. The carvings, the paintings and the history behind those monuments made this trip unique.

So much world and so little time!

What does an ideal vacation for a nature enthusiast look like? Lush green valleys, mountains rising into and above the clouds, orange sunsets and dense woods leading to a perfect view. Western India is blessed with the countryside charms of Goa, boosting prospects of nature tourism. Roads with trees on both sides and a spectacular journey ahead describe how it feels walking on the paths of Goa. The mesmerizing hill stations in Maharashtra such as Mahabaleshwar, Panchgani and Lonavala among many others leave you spell-bounded by the raw beauty of nature. The laid-back life on the islands of Daman and Diu and waking up to beautiful sunrise in the Dadra and Nagar Haveli is what a vacation looks like.

History is a line around greatness

Rich cultural heritage adorns the land of West India. From the Portuguese colonies of Goa and Daman and Diu to the vibrant culture of Gujarat and its tribes, West India is like a completely different world. The glory of Ajanta and Ellora Caves dating back to the 4th century is like a painting of the ancient world. The sculptures and carvings on the walls of the caves deport you to a world of great imagination. The remnants of the Indus Valley Civilization in Gujarat makes it one of the most visited heritage destinations in India. Laxmi Vilas Palace, the official residence of the royal family of Gujarat, is the largest private dwelling in the world. West India is a boosting parameter of heritage tourism in India with its rich history.

The smell of the ocean never gets old

Blessed with a diverse landscape, West India is a paradise for water babies. Long coastlines and sandy beaches become the highlight of your vacation. Goa is one of the best beach destinations in India with its scenic beaches and clear blue skies. The union territory of Daman and Diu is home to five exotic beaches where you can relax and enjoy your holiday. The most famous of the five beaches here is Nagoa Beach. Giant waves hitting the shore with an orange sunset is a view to die for. Gujarat and Mumbai also have some of the most tranquil beaches of the nation where you can sit and contemplate your life along with some lip-smacking street snacks.

What are we without the Almighty?

Religious sites in West India is a connection between different religions such as Hinduism, Christianity, Buddhism and Islam. This part of India stays true to the religious diversity of the nation. People of different beliefs exist together in harmony. From the famous Somnath Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva to the majestic Dwarkadeesh Temple, dedicated to Lord Krishna, West India offers some of the most pious religious sites in India. The beautifully carved cave temples of Ajanta and Ellora give insight into the life of Lord Buddha and his teachings. One of the most visited sites in India, Shirdi is dedicated to a famous saint, Sai Baba. Many devotees travel to this region in Maharashtra to offer their sincere prayers to him. The famous group of eight temples, Ashtavinayaka Temples, is dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the Indian God of happiness, prosperity and good luck. The famous Haji Ali Mosque, located in the middle of the sea in South Bombay is a pious site for Muslims. Head over to this part of the nation to experience the hand of God in everything you do!

The west area of India officially comprises of Daman and Diu, Goa, Gujarat and Maharashtra, while central India includes the state of Madhya Pradesh with wonderful wildlife which is easily reached from Mumbai.  Fringed by popular Rajasthan with its world famous monuments to the north, the area (apart from Goa) tends to attract fewer visitors despite offering a wealth of destinations and attractions to explore. As you travel the west of the country, you are greeted by a diverse range of cuisines, faiths, arts and crafts, music, wildlife, landscapes and ancient monuments, as well as the magnetic city of Mumbai.

Head out into beautiful national parks famous for the Bengal tiger or Asiatic lions, travel through Gujarat and Maharashtra rich in UNESCO World Heritage Sites & iconic temples, venture over the deserts of the Rann of Kutch and witness ancient culture and exquisite handicrafts, purchase mementos from bustling old bazaars or swanky shopping malls and stay in accommodation which embraces its natural surroundings from luxury jungle camps to heritage hotels and glorious beach resorts.

Travel to Western India

West India includes the states like Goa and Gujarat in addition to Maharashtra. Western Part is popular because of Bombay, Goa (For its beaches), Rann of Katch (Gujarat), Temples of Ajanta & Ellora (Aurangabad, Maharashtra) & Wildlife Sanctuaries in Gujarat. After the vibrant atmosphere of Bombay, allow the palm-fringed beaches of Goa to warm your spirit in the sun and relax your mind. Or meditate in cool and ancient Buddhist caves tunneled out of solid rock on the craggy hillsides - a dramatic contrast from the colourful fairs and festivals in unspoiled Gujarat. The choice is once again tremendous in this land that offers everything Bombay - Gateway of India.

Bounded by the scorching Thar Desert and cooled by the Arabian Sea, West India is rich in natural resource, golden beaches, mist shrouded jungles, desolate salt plains and the bright lights big city commercial capital Mumbai.  This is the birth place of Gandhi, and many a dream.

Goa in particular is famed for its kilometers of palm-fringed golden coastline.  A former Portuguese colony where ruined forts, baroque churches, vibrant night markets and fabulous seafood are the draw to this, the most popular seaside resort in the country.  Choose between the larger beach resorts of the south, nestled amongst sleepy fishing villages, or head north to the colonial mansions turned boutique hotels.

Metropolitan Mumbai lures visitors with its cosmopolitan nightlife and vivid bazaars whilst juxtaposing its rich heritage.  Highlights include the colonial architecture of the ‘Gateway of India’ and the ancient art carvings on Elephanta Island.  This immense, maximum city is one of the most dense urban jungles in the world.  Here mighty high rises give way to gothic manions and the Victorian, Indo-Saracenic architecture of the past.

West Indies ‘A’ set for Historic Tour to Nepal

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – Cricket West Indies (CWI) and the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) are delighted to announce a T20 ‘A’ Team tour as part of their respective ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 preparations.

This historic series will be the first time a West Indies team has toured Nepal and will consist of five (5) T20 matches, all of which will be played at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.

Miles Bascombe, CWI Director of Cricket commented,

"This A-team tour is another indication of the importance we are placing on A-team cricket and a significant phase in our preparations for the T20 World Cup. It gives us a final opportunity to see many of the contenders for a place in the squad who are not participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Even for those players who do not make the final World Cup squad they will be a part of the reserve pool. A hallmark of the 2016 T20 World Cup campaign was the ability of reserve players to come in and have an immediate impact so we must be ready for all eventualities. We also relish the opportunity to take the West Indies brand to Nepal for the first time, as cricket continues to grow in popularity there.”

CAN Secretary, Paras Khadka, stated,

“We are humbled and excited with the prospect of the West Indies ‘A’ team touring Nepal. This marks a significant moment in our cricketing history as we embrace this wonderful opportunity bestowed upon us, which will help us prepare significantly for the T20 World Cup and beyond.  This historic tour to Nepal, a young cricketing nation slowly finding its pathway in the world of cricket, will excite our passionate fans. Our heartfelt gratitude towards CWI for their support and belief in Nepal cricket and for continuing to help grow the game all over the world. We hope this will ignite more future tours and bilateral cricketing tie-ups between us and other top cricketing nations, as we march forward with great enthusiasm and appreciation”.

The only time West Indies have played Nepal in International cricket was a One Day International at the Harare Sports Club, during the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers in 2023, with the West Indies winning by 101 runs.

Co-Hosts, West Indies are in Group C in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and will face Papua New Guinea, Uganda, New Zealand, and Afghanistan, whilst Nepal is in Group D and will face the Netherlands, Sri Lanka, South Africa, and Bangladesh.

What time the 2024 solar eclipse started, reached peak totality and ended

By Sarah Maddox

Updated on: April 9, 2024 / 5:04 AM EDT / CBS News

The 2024 solar eclipse will be visible across North America today. As the moon's position between the Earth and sun casts a shadow on North America, that shadow, or umbra, will travel along the surface from west to east at more than 1,500 miles per hour along the path of totality .

That means the eclipse will start, peak and end at different times — as will the moments of total darkness along the path of totality — and the best time to view the eclipse depends on where you are located. Some places along the path will have more totality time than others.

In Texas, the south-central region had clouds in the forecast , but it was better to the northeast, according to the National Weather Service. The best eclipse viewing weather was expected in New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine, as well as in Canada's New Brunswick and Newfoundland.

What time does the 2024 total solar eclipse start?

Eclipse map of totality

The total solar eclipse will emerge over the South Pacific Ocean before the shadow falls across North America, beginning in parts of Mexico. The path of totality , where onlookers can witness the moon fully blocking the sun (through eclipse viewing glasses for safety ), is expected to first make landfall near the city of Mazatlán around 9:51 a.m. MT.

The total solar eclipse will cross over the U.S.-Mexico border into Texas, where it will emerge over Eagle Pass at 12:10 p.m. CT and then peak at about 1:27 p.m. CT.

In Dallas, NASA data shows the partial eclipse will first become visible at 12:23 p.m. CT and peak at 1:40 p.m. CT. The next states in the path of totality are Oklahoma and Arkansas, where the eclipse begins in Little Rock at 12:33 p.m. CT.

Cleveland will see the beginning of the eclipse at 1:59 p.m. ET. Darkness will start spreading over the sky in Buffalo, New York, at 2:04 p.m. ET. Then, the eclipse will reach northwestern Vermont, including Burlington, at 2:14 p.m. ET. Parts of New Hampshire and Maine will also follow in the path of totality before the eclipse first reaches the Canadian mainland  at 3:13 p.m. ET.

Although the experience won't be exactly the same, viewers in all the contiguous U.S. states outside the path of totality will still be able to see a partial eclipse. Some places will see most of the sun blocked by the moon, including Washington, D.C., where the partial eclipse will start at 2:04 p.m. ET and peak at about 3:20 p.m. ET.

In Chicago, viewers can start viewing the partial eclipse at 12:51 p.m. CT, with the peak arriving at 2:07 p.m. CT.  In Detroit, viewers will be able to enjoy a near-total eclipse beginning at 1:58 p.m. ET and peaking at 3:14 p.m. ET.

New York City will also see a substantial partial eclipse, beginning at 2:10 p.m. ET and peaking around 3:25 p.m. ET.

In Boston it will begin at 2:16 p.m. ET and peak at about 3:29 p.m. ET.

The below table by NASA shows when the eclipse will start, peak and end in 13 cities along the eclipse's path.

What time will the solar eclipse reach peak totality?

Millions more people will have the chance to witness the total solar eclipse this year than during the last total solar eclipse , which was visible from the U.S. in 2017.

The eclipse's peak will mean something different for cities within the path of totality and for those outside. Within the path of totality, darkness will fall for a few minutes. The longest will last more than 4 minutes, but most places will see between 3.5 and 4 minutes of totality. In cities experiencing a partial eclipse, a percentage of the sun will be obscured for more than two hours.

Mazatlán is set to experience totality at 11:07 am PT. Dallas will be able to see the moon fully cover the sun at 1:40 p.m. CT. Little Rock will start to see the full eclipse at 1:51 p.m. CT, Cleveland at 3:13 p.m. ET and Buffalo at 3:18 p.m. ET. Totality will reach Burlington at 3:26 p.m. ET before moving into the remaining states and reaching Canada around 4:25 p.m.

Outside the path of totality, 87.4% of the sun will be eclipsed in Washington, D.C. at 3:20 p.m. ET, and Chicago will have maximum coverage of 93.9% at 2:07 p.m. CT. New York City is much closer to the path of totality this year than it was in 2017; it will see 89.6% coverage at 3:25 p.m. EDT.

Detroit is another city that will encounter a near-total eclipse, with 99.2% maximum coverage at 3:14 p.m. ET. Boston will see 92.4% coverage at 3:29 p.m. ET.

What time will the solar eclipse end?

The eclipse will leave continental North America from Newfoundland, Canada, at 5:16 p.m. NT, according to NASA.

At the beginning of the path of totality in Mazatlán, the eclipse will be over by 12:32 p.m. PT, and it will leave Dallas at 3:02 p.m. CT. The eclipse will end in Little Rock at 3:11 p.m. CT, Cleveland at 4:29 p.m. CDT and Buffalo at 4:32 p.m. ET. Burlington won't be far behind, with the eclipse concluding at 4:37 p.m. ET.

Meanwhile, the viewing will end in Chicago at 3:21 p.m. CT, Washington, D.C. at 4:32 p.m. ET, and New York City at 4:36 p.m. ET.

In Detroit, the partial eclipse will disappear at 4:27 p.m. ET, and in Boston, it will be over at 4:39 p.m. ET.

How long will the eclipse last in total?

The total solar eclipse will begin in Mexico at 11:07 a.m. PT and leave continental North America at 5:16 p.m. NT. From the time the partial eclipse first appears on Earth to its final glimpses before disappearing thousands of miles away, the celestial show will dazzle viewers for about 5 hours, according to timeanddate.com .

The length of the total solar eclipse at points along the path depends on the viewing location. The longest will be 4 minutes and 28 seconds, northwest of Torreón, Mexico. Near the center of the path, totality takes place for the longest periods of time, according to NASA.

Spectators will observe totality for much longer today than during the 2017 eclipse , when the longest stretch of totality was 2 minutes and 32 seconds.

The moon's shadow seen on Earth today, called the umbra, travels at more than 1,500 miles per hour, according to NASA. It would move even more quickly if the Earth rotated in the opposite direction.

What is the longest a solar eclipse has ever lasted?

The longest known totality was 7 minutes and 28 seconds in 743 B.C. However, NASA says this record will be broken in 2186 with a 7 minute, 29 second total solar eclipse. The next total solar eclipse visible from parts of the U.S. won't happen until Aug. 23, 2044.
