The Unstoppable AEGIS is a US & Canada concert tour celebrating the 25th anniversary of AEGIS , a Filipino rock band formed in 1995. North Carolina would be their final stop before heading back to the Philippines. They are formerly known as AG's Soundtrippers in clubs and lounges all over Japan. The band is composed of sisters Juliet, Mercy, and Ken Sunot on lead vocals, only-male member Rey Abenoja on vocals and guitars, Stella Pabico on keyboards, Rowena Adriano on bass guitar and Vilma Goloviogo on drums. The group changed its name to Aegis (which means "shield" or "protection") upon signing with Alpha Records in 1998. The band's songs were featured in the musical Rak of Aegis , debuted in January 2014 and ran for seven seasons at the PETA (Philippine Educational Theater Association) Theater Center. Being in the industry for 25 years, AEGIS is behind hit singles such as Halik (Kiss), Mahal na Mahal Kita (I Love You so Much) and Luha (Tears), which are popular tunes in karaoke sessions and are still heard on radio stations.

Filipino pop-rock band Aegis to perform Sunday in Hilo

Filipino pop-rock band Aegis will take the stage Sunday at the Palace Theater.

Aegis is celebrating its 25-year anniversary with a U.S. and Canada tour. The band will be visiting Hilo for the first time for an exciting night of music and dance.

“The band decided to come to Hilo, specifically, because they’ve been to every other island, and this will be their first time on the Big Island,” said band promoter Ramon Sumibcay. “Almost all Filipinos know Aegis, so this is going to be a great time for the Filipino community of Hilo.”

Aegis is a seven-piece band made of family and friends with three sisters — Juliet, Mercy and Ken Sunot — serving as the lead singers. Stella Pabico is on the keyboard, Rowena Adriano plays bass guitar, Vilma Glogiogo plays drums, and the only male member, Rey Abenoja, is on vocals and guitar.

Aegis has released five albums through Alpha Records, with one being a cover album with songs like “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and “Help!” Most of their original songs are written and performed in Filipino.

“During the show, they will sing cover songs and original songs that span many different genres, and they will bring the house down,” Sumibcay said. “It’s going to be a night full of singing with a group you may have only seen online. It’ll be an amazing experience.”

Aegis is playing in the Philippines before heading to Honolulu on Friday and Hilo on Sunday. They will then make their way through Canada and the U.S. for their tour.

“This band, who are all related by blood or just by friendship, has been together for 25 years, and they’re really happy to be celebrating that,” Sumibcay said. “They’ve been more than family, and it’s not something you see from bands all the time.”

Sam Hashimoto and Hilo’s own Kristian Lei will be the guest performers playing before and possibly during the show.

Born and raised in Honolulu, Hashimoto is a singer and songwriter now living in Manila full time. He has started to carve his niche as a professional singer in the Philippines.

Lei is a Filipino, Hilo-born pop artist who has had notable international theater credits and has brought her music around the world.

“It’s so important to bring world music to local stages, especially when there is such a big Filipino population here,” Sumibcay said. “I think it’s going to be a great night for many people to come together and hear their native language through awesome music.”

The event begin at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Palace Theater in downtown Hilo. Tickets are $85 for general admission and $110 for VIP.

Following the success of Maggie Rogers ’ in-person ticketing program for her tour last year, she’s going even bigger in 2024. Ahead of her new album Don’t Forget Me dropping on Friday, the singer announced her first arena run in the United States, kicking off in October after ‘ The Don’t Forget Me Tour, Part I ’ in early summer.

Friday kicks off a week-long celebration that Rogers is dubbing ‘Box Office Week’ that will include pop-up events, special shows at intimate venues in New York, Philadelphia, Boston, and Chicago, and chances to snag tickets to the arena tour at box offices across America.

Rogers’ arena run this fall includes a date at Madison Square Garden on October 19, a little over five years after the singer sold out two nights at Radio City Music Hall. Having gone to New York University and lived in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, Rogers is no stranger to venues across the city, from popping out at Barclays Center with Zach Bryan and Bruce Springsteen to her affinity for some of the city’s cozier settings.

The first 2024 Masters tee times will begin at 10:30 a.m. ET on Thursday after weather delayed the start of the opening round. At 100-1 to win outright in the 2024 Masters odds, it's unlikely that Tiger Woods will pick up his sixth career green jacket this week at the Masters 2024. However, there are still plenty of intriguing Masters Tiger props on the board for golf bettors to consider before he tees off. The latest 2024 Masters prop bets list Woods' Round 1 score over/under at 73.5, with the Over favored at -165 (risk $165 to win $100).

The first major tournament of the year started on Thursday, and nearly 90 players were at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia to contend for a highly sought-after green jacket. Thirteen of them are LIV golfers.

Spanish golfer, LIV participant and 2023 Masters champion Jon Rahm will be looking to become the fourth golfer in Masters history to win back-to-back jackets and the first since Tiger Woods in 2001-02.

Several other LIV golfers likely will be in contention for a Masters win by the end of the weekend as well, with Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson and up-and-comer Joaquín Niemann also among favorites.

Though it's red-hot American (and non-LIV golfer) Scottie Scheffler who wass the early favorite after winning his second consecutive Players Championship last month. He also won this year's Arnold Palmer Invitational just one week before his Players win. Scheffler played remarkably well on Day 1 as well, shooting 6-under on Day 1. Still, he sits in second place heading into Friday as LIV's Bryson DeChambeau leads all golfers at 7-under after Thursday.

Who won the Masters in 2023? Jon Rahm became champion before LIV Golf defection

Only three golfers have won back-to-back Masters tournaments at Augusta: Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, and Tiger Woods. Jon Rahm is hoping to become the fourth.

The 2023 Masters winner will be in the field in 2024 as he looks to do something that hasn't been done since 2002, when a Tiger Woods in the midst of his first prime won golf's first major of the season for the second time in a row. Rahm, who shot a 12-under 276 for the weekend, beat out Phil Mickelson and Brooks Koepka (8-under 280) for his first green jacket.

This year, it won't get any easier. Rahm will find himself up against Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, and many more of golf's best as he looks for his third career major win.

Rahm, who went on to join LIV Golf later in 2023 despite previously pledging himself to the PGA Tour, is suspended from the PGA Tour for his defection to the controversial league. However, he is able to play at Augusta thanks to The Masters' eligibility rules.

Who won the Masters in 2023?

Spanish golfer Jon Rahm is the defending Masters champion, making him the second non-USA-born golfer in three years to don the green jacket (2021 winner Hideki Matsuyama was born in Ehime prefecture in Japan).

Rahm held off LIV golfers Brooks Koepka and Phil Mickelson to win his first Masters, capping off an utterly torrid start to his season. Koepka entered the final round with the lead while Mickelson came in 10 strokes off pace, putting Rahm in the Goldilocks position to pull off a Sunday victory.

He shot 3-under 69 in the final round whereas Koepka shot 3-over 75, giving Rahm a four-stroke victory. Mickelson, meanwhile, shot 7-under 65 on Sunday to work his way into a tie for second on the leaderboard.

“Hard to put it into words," Rahm said after his win, per Golf Digest . "Obviously we all dream of things like this as players, and you try to visualize what it's going to be like and what it's going to feel like. And when I hit that third shot on the green [at the 18th], and I could tell it was close by the crowd's reaction, just the wave of emotion of so many things just overtook me. Never thought I was going to cry by winning a golf tournament, but I got very close on that 18th hole."

Rahm had a phenomenal first two days at Augusta before a lackluster third round threatened his position atop the leaderboard.

After entering the final day two strokes back of leader Brooks Koepka, Koepka's struggles on Sunday opened the door for Rahm, who ultimately won the day and the tournament. Par at Augusta National is 72 for the day, and 288 for the weekend.

Is Jon Rahm playing in 2024 Masters?

Despite not playing on PGA Tour, Rahm will be participating in the 2024 Masters.

Rahm defected to LIV Golf in December 2023, which led to his immediate suspension from PGA Tour events. The Masters, however, operates as an independent body, and has its own suite of rules for eligibility. One of those rules is automatic tournament participation for life thanks to his 2023 victory.

Rahm isn't the only golfer from LIV who is eligible. Other LIV golfers who will be in field include Koepka, Joaquin Niemann, Cameron Smith, and Mickelson, among others.

Why did Jon Rahm join LIV Golf?

Rahm, who decried LIV Golf upon the breakout league's inception, joined the Saudi-backed league on Dec. 7, 2023.

"To be honest, part of the (LIV) format is not really appealing to me," Rahm said in 2022, per NBC Sports . "Shotgun three days to me is not a golf tournament, no cut. It’s that simple. I want to play against the best in the world in a format that’s been going on for hundreds of years. That’s what I want to see."

Upon joining LIV, Rahm has performed an about-face.

“I’d say there was two instances," Rahm said of his change of heart on GOLF.com's "Breakthrough." "I think dynamics started to change and there was a lot of division at that time. And yes, for me to want to change, there had to be reasons beyond the money, right? So when I said that I fully meant it and it was true. Now, when they slap you with a large amount of money in your face, your feelings do change. I try not to be a materialistic person, but I do owe it to my family as well to set them up for success the best I can, and having kids I think changed that quite a bit. So the money is a part of it; I’m not going to lie. But again, when I said that I wasn’t fully aware of what I was saying because you don’t really understand.”

In summation, the move largely came down to money.

The best golfers in the world have once again converged at Augusta National Golf Club in search of the coveted green jacket. This is the 88th edition of the annual Masters Tournament , so will we see a brand new winner or will one of the 18 former winners playing in this year's tournament claim the championship yet again?

Day 1 proved to be exhilarating. Not only did we see the early tournament favorite, Scottie Scheffler , prove why so many people were backing him to win, but a few dark horses emerged as well. LIV's Bryson DeChambeau leads the entire field after Day 1, shooting 7-under par on Thursday. Other golfers who weren't given great odds to start the tournament like Danny Willet (-5) and Nicolai Højgaard (-4) also played some incredible rounds. Even Tiger Woods had some great moments and moves into Day 2 ranking inside the top-20 at 1-under.

Three more days are left in this year's tournament, with one round played each day. The cut will happen after Day 2, and only the top-50 players on the leaderboard will advance into Saturday and Sunday. It's unforgiving, but what else can you expect from a tournament as heralded as The Masters.
