The food from Lagos to Amsterdam was was very poor compared to AMS-YYZ

The flight was again delayed for more then 2 hours with some lousy explanation regarding the reason of the delay. Although the flight was delayed for more than 2 hours, no refreshments were offered (according to EU regulations). Last 4 flights on KLM - always at least 2 hrs late. So be prepared that you cannot plan anything with KLM.

Booked connecting flights with KlM. My serving flight was the furthest part of the airport. On arrival in Zurich. My two cases arrived but only one carry on belong to my son. His three suitcase didn't arrive. After enquiring we discovered they were still in Amsterdam. We landed at 11.12. We eventually left the airport just after one.

Seats are fair enough for medium tall people. Good food all the trip. Fight attendances are warm

I thought KLM was the best airline but the Lima - Amsterdam was 1 hours late, the Brussels - Amsterdam was 2.30 hours late and the Amsterdam - Lima was 30 minutes late

no issues at all... Kudos to the food. This time was really really good

Overall a good experience. We were disappointed when we had to check our carry on due to the plane being full. KLM hadn’t notified us and we had valuable items in the carry on but they still made us check it. Some of the food was great and some was mediocre. Crew is really kind and funny.

One of the vstewardeses wanted to bump me of the plane for absolutely nothing. There is CCTV in the plane ans everything can be verified. Very disappointing , you all will see, o other 5 years and the passangers who does not smile to flight attendent will be bumped off...

I travel frequently. The flight was late again... KLM should really try and be on time

The flight itself it was great nice food the crew were very nice and helpful, Checking in from Birmingham wasn't great long queues for bag dropped, And I had my hand luggage case taken away from me even though I requested to have it with me as I had breakables items. I was told I can not because of the length of the flight with no explanation at all no options was given for me to take my fragile items out of my case it was taken away with hold buggage I find the staff member who was checking me in very unpleasant !! Can we please be advise if the rules have changed about the the carry on hand luggage it will be easier to be advise on booking your tickect if we not allowed to take the hand luggage with me. Overall I had a good flight .

The trip itself was good. I have given only good as rating, because my first flight has been cancelled by a different airline and that caused disruption in my trip. I spent over ten hours in Luton airport and that caused me high tiredness, sickness, because of the very early initial trip. easyJet staff has been professional and friendly.

Very pleasant crew, working hard on a full plane. Delay by a broken seat. However crew made back 60% of the delay.

Delayed and then further delayed with no announcement made so that all the passengers (who were standing in the jetty) could hear. We stood there for well over 20 minutes. We were further delayed through weather but no one explained that to us until the pilot made an announcement when finally on board

easyJet need to ensure that whether pre-booking seats or not children aren’t split from their parents the crew spent the majority of boarding asking passengers to move to accommodate two families. Surely the system identifies minors on a booking !!!!! It was all very frustrating to watch and caused delays which I’m sure cost easyJet more in the long run rather that automatically allocating families with minors seats together automatically.

Not great! Rude staff in London and the worse baggage reclaim I’ve ever seen. Great staff in flight but doubt I’ll fly with them again

Staff had been really impolite at the boarding area and for both ways charged high extra fees without a reason. For the check-in luggage which was measured 3.5 kg and was confirmed by the stuff to cost 40 € , 60 Euros had been purchased from our credit card. When confronted staff did call us both liars and claimed to never have announced anything. Flight back , when not wanting to press a backpack in a measuring metal instead of hand measuring , staff got angry that one did not follow her order, which was than escalated by the team. Although carrying a baby anyways staff did not offer any help in the unreasonable process and than charged again extra money. Cabine crew has been friendly but this experience LL lead to not booking easy jet at all in the future. Check in process in Edinburgh anyways chaotic,to the family check-in and disabled check-in everybody else was guided for check in process, so people just getting in between each other, not possible to monitor your own stuff.

As you would expect from a budget airline Left and arrived on time, no frills, not even a glass of water offered But you get what you pay for

I had an emergency escape seat. The attendant gave the extrA briefing to my side of the aisle but didnt direct it at all to the other where my wife was sitting

Boarding great. Didn’t eat or drink so can not comment.

Total jobs worths over carry on bags, charged £96 extra for bags that were clearly hand luggage

How To Travel Amsterdam to Edinburgh

edinburgh

Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland (UK) and a major financial and tourist hub. From Amsterdam it is some 660km away over the North Sea.

Let’s look at the options for travel between these 2 cities by air, train, bus and ferry.

1. Amsterdam-Edinburgh by Air

Flying is the easiest and most convenient travel option between the 2 cities. Scheduled flight time between Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) and Edinburgh Airport (EDI) is around 1 hour 30 minutes.

Dutch airline KLM (Skyteam) flies up to 3x daily using Boeing 737 aircraft. The cheapest return flights start at around €110 from Amsterdam or £80 from Edinburgh – these are base fares and do not include optional extras such as checked luggage.

klm flight over edinburgh

No frills airline Easyjet flies 1-3x daily between Amsterdam and Edinburgh using Airbus A319/320 aircraft. Prices can be a little bit cheaper than KLM if booking in advance.

2. Amsterdam-Edinburgh by Train

It is possible to travel from Amsterdam to Edinburgh by train in about 10 hours.

From Amsterdam the journey has 2 components – travelling Amsterdam to London St Pancras by direct Eurostar and then taking a UK domestic train from nearby London Kings Cross to Edinburgh.

See here for more detailed info about travel from Amsterdam to London .

eurostar e320 train at rotterdam

The direct Amsterdam-London Eurostar service runs 4x daily with a journey time of just over 4 hours. The train makes stops only at Brussels Zuid/Midi and Rotterdam.

We highly recommend the direct Amsterdam-London service although it is also possible to take a Thalys train from Amsterdam to Brussels and then a Eurostar from Brussels to London.

amsterdam-edinburgh rail map

Amsterdam-London Eurostar tickets are available from €40 (Standard) or €99.50 (Standard Premier) and can be booked at the NS International site .

London North East Railway (LNER) and Lumo operate regular direct rail services from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh and this journey takes around 4 hours 30 minutes, stopping in Newcastle and a few other towns.

There are a huge variety of rail fares in the UK so you could pay as little as £15 (Lumo) or £30 (LNER) one-way in advance right up to £197 for an anytime single.

First class singles on LNER start from £73 one way – a hot meal and drinks are served at your seat.

London-Edinburgh train tickets (with LNER or Lumo) are bookable at the Omio site

Now whether you would do the entire Amsterdam-Edinburgh rail journey in one go is up to you – it would probably be prudent to add a stopover in London to minimise the risk of missing a connection.

3. Amsterdam-Edinburgh by Coach

It is also possible to do the journey by coach via London although it will be a very long-haul.

Flixbu s and BlaBlaCar Bus normally operate a 1-2x daily coach service between Amsterdam Sloterdijk and London Victoria with fares from €30 one-way. The journey takes about 12 hours. Book at the Omio site

flixbus stop at amsterdam sloterdijk

National Express and Megabus both operate regular coach services between London Victoria and Edinburgh with a journey time of 9-11 hours for direct services.

Obviously you could also consider a rail-coach combination – such as coach from Amsterdam to London then a train up to Edinburgh.

London-Edinburgh bus tickets (with National Express or Megabus) are bookable at the Omio site

4. Amsterdam-Edinburgh by Ferry/Train

Every night DFDS Seaways runs ferries both ways between Amsterdam Ijmuiden and Newcastle North Shields. Book your DFDS Amsterdam-Newcastle ferry here

From Amsterdam the ferry departs at 1730, arriving in Newcastle the next day at 0915. From Newcastle, the ferry departs at 1700 before arriving at 0945 in Amsterdam the following morning.

The ferry trip takes about 16-17 hours and is made by the 163m long ships King Seaways or Princess Seaways .

For a standard ferry crossing, prices for a 2 bed inside cabin start from around €80/£68 each way. Add about €100/£85 for a car each way.

dfds seaways ferry amsterdam

The ferry terminals are accessible by special transfer buses which go to Amsterdam Central and Newcastle station respectively.

From Newcastle station you can travel on a London North East Railway, Lumo or Crosscountry train up to Edinburgh – this takes about 90 minutes and singles start at £11. Newcastle-Edinburgh tickets can be booked at the Trainline site

The 200km drive between North Shields and Edinburgh takes about 2 hours 30 minutes up the A1 motorway.
