SUN, SPICE AND SEA BREEZES
It's no coincidence that many of the best European cruises call in the most beautiful ports in the world. Eat your way through the cobbled streets of Italy, contrast the timeless beauty of Greece's ruins with the modern chic that's come to define its islands or hike through forlorn caverns and up lush waterfalls in captivating Croatia.
DISCOVER LA DOLCE VITA
From the storied streets of Rome to the charming canals of Venice, Italy is a country that needs no introduction. Whether you pose with Michelangelo's David in Florence or indulge in to-die-for Pizza in Naples, it's no wonder why so many cruises to Europe visit la bella Italia.
FROM THE ACROPOLIS TO THE AEGEAN
Greece is remarkable, from the ancient Acropolis of Athens to the blue-roofed houses of Santorini. Whether you trek through the limestone hills in the north or swim through the cobalt waters around the Cyclades, it's easy to see why this is one of the best places to visit in Europe.
"GAMES OF THRONES" Lives On
The hit TV show might be finished, but "Game of Thrones" fans will recognize dozens of locations in the walled city of Dubrovnik , the jewel of Croatia's Adriatic coast. Farther afield, explore the countless waterfalls of Plitvice Lakes National Park or pair European cruises with tastings at underrated wineries.
SCENES THAT INSPIRED 1,000 PAINTINGS
Endless possibilities are what the coasts of France, Spain and Portugal have always been about. Generations of painting greats from Van Gogh to Picasso have found inspiration from the crystalline coasts of the French Riviera, to the craggy mountaintops of the Canary Islands. Of course, the best European cruises also dock in timeless cities like Barcelona, Cherbourg, Lisbon and beyond.
CITY OF LOVE, CÔTE D'AZUR
The only thing better than strolling into Paris as the Eiffel Tower lights up at night? Sitting down for a meal of fresh-caught seafood as the sun sets into the harbor of aptly-named Nice. France has got something for every traveler, which is why so many cruises to Europe dock here.
SAY "SALUD" TO SPAIN
Sitting down for Spanish tapas is one of the most satisfying food experiences in the world, especially when you wash it down with fruity sangria. Plus, the Jurassic topography of the Canary Islands and the storied streets of Barcelona are just a few of the best places to visit in Europe you'll find here.
KING OF DISCOVERY
Portugal is where many of the first expeditions to the New World start, but most people on European cruises bound for Lisbon wonder why anyone would leave. Explore the mysterious Quinta de Regaleira castle in Sintra, pour port wine in Porto or practice your surfing skills in the Algarve.

OLD-WORLD WARMTH ALONG BREEZY COAST
You can feel warmth in your heart no matter the temperature outside, and the northwestern reaches of Europe illustrate this beautifully. Join the best European cruises through the British Isles and along the coast of the Netherlands, where enchanted country charm and royal, old-world cities offer endless possibilities for memories that will last a lifetime.
THE JOY OF GOING DUTCH
The Dutch have managed to keep the sea at bay for hundreds of years, but many of the best European cruises still make their way into Amsterdam . If you tire of the tranquility you find amid tulip fields and beneath towering windmills, make your way to the hipster capital of Rotterdam.
ETERNAL LANDSCAPES ON THE EMERALd ISLE
Life is but a dream in Ireland , whether you down a pint of Guinness and trace tales told by James Joyce in Dublin, or careen along the Cliffs of Moher along the west coast. Many cruises to Europe also stop in Northern Ireland's Belfast, a city that's a testament to rebirth and reconciliation.
STEP INTO A SCOTTISH FAIRYTALE
When you visit Scotland, it can be difficult to discern legend from real life. Strolling down Edinburgh's Royal Mile to Edinburgh Castle might feel like a dream, while the fabled and mythical Loch Ness may surprise you with its charm and stunning scenery. Scotland's one of the best places to visit in Europe, period.
WINTER AURORA, SUMMER SUN
Scandinavia is dark for much of the year, but light is what defines its polar nations, from the Midnight Sun that rises high above Demark in mid-summer, to the aurora that dances above Norway and Iceland amid winter's deepest freeze. Find endless possibilities and the best European cruises along the Baltic, from the savory seafood eateries of Oslo, to the cold cityscape of Reykjavik.
SCANDINAVIA'S UNSUNG SISTER
Many of the best European cruises dock in Denmark, and it's no wonder why. From colorful Nyhavn harbor in Copenhagen to storied castles like Amalienborg and Frederiksborg, Denmark more than makes up for the fact that its more famous neighbors often eclipse it.
LAND OF FIRE AND ICE
It's easy to be intrigued by Iceland , whether you walk through Reykjavik's riveting Hallgrimskirkja church, or watch the northern lights dance over Kirkjufellsfoss waterfalls. Plus, there are few better ways to cap off cruises to Europe than a dip in the aptly-named Blue Lagoon.
PRICELESS PANORAMAS, FABULOUS FJORDs
Norway is a country in beautiful balance. Had enough of the orderliness of Oslo? Head west to beautiful Bergen, where finger-shaped fjords jut into and out of thousands of miles of coastline. Or contrast a fresh fish dinner at sea level with the view from towering Trolltunga cliff.
Europe is beautiful in every season, but the peak of comfortable weather (especially in the north) is between May and September.
You should always be prepared for rain and colder weather when you travel to Europe, especially in the North. Dress in light layers for your vacation.
Europeans speak more English the farther north you go. Your phone's translation app (or, at minimum, learning how to say "Hello" and "Thank You" in local languages) will aid you along the Mediterranean.
RELATED PORTS
Learn more about Baltic ports like Klaipeda, Lithuania and Tallinn, Estonia, or read up on Bergen, the gateway to Norway's stunning fjords. The Mediterranean provides many options but start by exploring Malaga on Spain's Costa del Sol or the exciting Monte Carlo, Monaco. The most popular ports in the British Isles are Edinburgh in Scotland and the cities of Belfast and Dublin in Ireland. No matter what you like, you will find your favourite European cruise.

Itineraries
Brindisi, italy.
Known as the “Gateway to the East,” Brindisi is one of the largest cities in Italy’s Apulia region and one of the most active trading hubs in the country. Located on the Adriatic coast of Southern Italy, Brindisi will greet you with its crystal-clear waters and historic city views. After the bombings of World War II, the city spent many years rebuilding and now hosts a unique mix of historic and contemporary architecture, including churches and castles like Castello Alfonsino, the Church of Santa Maria del Casale, Santa Maria del Casale, and the Forte a Mare Castle. Beautiful beaches, like Lido Azzurro and Torre Guaceto, are also close by and will offer you a great place to relax.
Bordeaux (Pauillac), France
A destination for wine-lovers, food-lovers, and city ramblers, southern French city and wine region Bordeaux will offer you much more than only its famous red wine. With stunning classical, neo-classical, and urban architecture, historical monuments, incredible art museums, and a buzzing dining and drinking scene, this port city and UNESCO World Heritage site rivals the likes of Paris.
Kavala, Greece
Tucked into the northeastern coast of mainland Greece, just below the Bulgarian border, the hillside city of Kavala overlooks the Aegean Sea and is the main seaport of eastern Macedonia. Kavala will offer you a surprising mix of history, culture, and architecture—archeological sites, monuments, cobblestone streets, wooden balconies lined with flowers, colorful palaces, and hilltop fortresses—as well as diverse landscapes like lush wetlands, lagoons, inland lakes, beaches, and diverse flora and fauna.
Trieste, Italy
Old-World Trieste—a city that draws attention from travelers around the world—sits at a northeastern corner of Italy and brings together the Latin, Slavic, and Germanic cultures of the Adriatic Sea. The Roman and Byzantine empires ruled here once upon a time, and their influences can be seen in the different types of architecture of the cityscape. You can experience Trieste's many cultures through its cozy coffeehouses, seafood restaurants, open-air plazas, Old World churches, and museums.
Volos, Greece
Volos, Greece's newest port city, is located at the foot of Mount Pelion and the innermost point of the Pagasetic Gulf. As an important industrial center and bridge between Europe and Asia, this lively seafront destination offers you many things to discover—local cultural activities, museums, cafes, restaurants, and an exciting nightlife area. Tourists and residents alike can take advantage of the many cruises that depart from New York City, offering easy access to warm weather getaways, family vacations, expeditions, and more. After all, nothing screams adventure like sailing away from the Big Apple with the Statue of Liberty and iconic city skyline in your wake.
Plus, New York is home to the oldest cruise terminal in the United States. Nowadays, there are two hubs, one in Manhattan and another in Brooklyn . An additional cruise terminal, in Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey, also serves the area.
The Manhattan cruise terminal is located on the edge of Midtown, making it easy to spend port days or pre-cruise time exploring Times Square, Central Park, or the Theater District. The Empire State Building and iconic department stores including Macy’s Herald Square are also within walking distance of the Manhattan cruise port.
The Brooklyn cruise port is a 15-minute drive from Brooklyn Bridge Park , which offers some of the best views of downtown Manhattan. If you're looking to stretch your legs, the walk across the Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan offers just over a mile of picturesque city viewpoints. While Bayonne, New Jersey may not be a huge tourist destination, sailing from Cape Liberty does provide a postcard-perfect look at the Manhattan skyline and its famous neighbor, the Statue of Liberty.

Viking offers ocean cruises between New York and Reykjavik in June, August, and September.
Trade the soaring skyscrapers of New York City for coastal Canada, remote Greenland, and endless Icelandic summer days. This Viking itinerary makes two stops in Canada and two stops in Greenland before circumnavigating Iceland, beginning with the remote Westfjords and ending in Reykjavik. Sail the same seas as legendary Norse explorer Leif Erikkson (on a far more luxurious Viking ship) while learning about the American Revolution and Canadian exploration from the cruise line’s resident historian. Lounge by the pool, visit the spa, or look out for whales and puffins. Viking has several nearly identical ocean ships sailing this itinerary from New York—each can accommodate a maximum of 930 passengers, allowing them to dock in ports larger ships cannot access.
It’s impossible to get bored on the MSC Meraviglia . See six Broadway-caliber shows over a 7-night cruise, spend sea days at the thermal spa or lounging by the pool, go bowling, play arcade games, try out an F1 simulator, or work out in a state-of-the-art gym—the opportunities are endless. MSC’s Meraviglia sails from New York to Bermuda, Canada, New England, the Bahamas, and Florida and can accommodate up to 5,642 passengers across 2,214 staterooms. Choose among 23 dining venues and 20 bars and lounges, or try to eat your way through all of them.
Norwegian Prima is one of the best cruises for solo travelers departing from New York City.
On most cruise lines, traveling solo means paying up to double the fare for a cabin to yourself, but not on the Norwegian Prima . This ship has a special area set aside for solo travelers with 73 studio suites and a private common area for mingling. Each of the Norwegian Prima’s 95-square-foot studio suites comes with a full-size bed, en suite bathroom, and a vanity table. And while space inside these studios are tight, you’ll likely be so busy go-karting, lounging by the pool, taking in shows, and relaxing in hot tubs, it’s unlikely you’ll find yourself spending much time in the room beyond catching some shut eye. The Norwegian Prima sails to Bermuda and the Caribbean from New York and offers a transatlantic repositioning itinerary.Best transatlantic cruise from New York
On Holland America's Volendam , embark on an unforgettable roundtrip journey from New York that includes a stop in the Azores and overnights in Rome, Cairo, and Istanbul. This 45-day journey on Holland America’s Volendam crosses the iconic Strait of Gibraltar and offers several sea days to enjoy the ship’s onboard amenities, which include a spa, swimming pools, and several restaurants. The Volendam accommodates just over 1,400 guests and is designed around grand public spaces. Dive deeper into destinations with regional cooking demonstrations as well as food and wine tastings. There’s no better way to travel in comfort and see the Statue of Liberty, Colosseum, Pyramids of Giza, and Hagia Sophia on a single trip.
Regent Seven Seas cruises are known for all-inclusive luxury.
Sample the best of the Caribbean in just 15 days on the Seven Seas Grandeur , one of the most luxurious ships at sea. This Regent Seven Seas cruise visits Bermuda, St. Barts, St. Lucia, Barbados, Grenada, Bonaire, Curacao, and Aruba en route to Miami. This cruise line is a favorite among retired travelers, and the Seven Seas Grandeur is the line’s most luxurious ship. There are 746 suites, a spa, a teaching kitchen, a casino, and Broadway-caliber entertainment onboard. Regent Seven Seas’ specialty is all-inclusive luxury, and it means it. Shore excursions, alcohol, specialty restaurants, and laundry are included in cruise fares, which start at around $8,400 for this itinerary.
Escape New York City and head straight to the pink beaches and turquoise waters of Bermuda on the Celebrity Eclipse . Spend two full nights in Bermuda and several days at sea—plenty of time to enjoy everything the Celebrity Eclipse has to offer. Play basketball, go shopping or spend your time at the casino, pools or spa. Or eat and drink your way across more than a dozen bars and restaurants, including an interactive Le Petit Chef dining experience. These seven-night roundtrip sailings depart from Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey, making it especially easy to combine a visit to the Statue of Liberty with your cruise.
Hop on the Seabourn Quest in October for an unforgettable journey through the colors of autumn. Spend a gorgeous fall day in Central Park before setting sail from New York to Montréal by way of Martha's Vineyard, Boston, Halifax, and Prince Edward Island on a 12-day itinerary along the eastern seaboard. This is a small ship that’s especially popular among North Americans, Europeans, and Australians, and a cruise line that’s beloved by foodies. Seabourn is known for its indulgent steaks, endless caviar, and partnership with award-winning chef Thomas Keller, who has a namesake restaurant on board.
In just 16 nights, sail from Manhattan to Bermuda, Portugal, Spain , the south of France, and Italy on the Norwegian Escape , a ship that accommodates just over 4,000 passengers and is sure to offer something for everyone. View the staggeringly beautiful natural wonders of Iceland – known as the Land of Fire and Ice for its volcanoes and glaciers – and come away with a deep respect for the country’s strict environmental policies.
Special Note: This program is not recommended for guests with extreme walking difficulty or for those who require the use of a wheelchair. Guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on the internal flight.
Disembark the ship in Reykjavik, meet your guide and start out on a brief city tour en route to your hotel.
Begin with a drive to Perland, a nature museum with a revolving observation deck that offers a stunning 360° view of Reykjavik.
Then, it’s off to the world’s only live lava show, a highly engaging experience that recreates a volcanic eruption by superheating real lava that slowly flows into a special area of the showroom. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity allows you to get so close to real molten lava that you can hear it sizzling and feel its intense heat.
Transfer to the Reykjavík Grand Hotel (or similar) for check in.
Note: Although the rooms are comfortable, they are quite basic.
The remainder of the day will be at your leisure with meals on your own.
The team at the Regent Seven Seas Hospitality desk can offer recommendations for sightseeing and dining.
After breakfast at the hotel, you will depart for Þingvellir National Park, an attraction of great historical, geological and cultural significance. It is located in a rift valley where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates meet. The site is also where Iceland’s Parliament was founded in 930 AD. Thingvellir became Iceland’s first national park in 1930 and is home to Iceland’s largest natural lake, Thingvallavatn.
You will next visit Gullfoss Waterfalls, whose name comes from the golden color of its water as it churns up silt and sediment. These magnificent waterfalls in the Hvitá River are fed by Langjökull, Iceland’s second largest glacier. The cascades are more than 100 feet high and fall in two tiers making for a magnificent sight. If not for the tenacity of a local environmental activist, Gullfoss would have been covered by the waters of a proposed hydroelectric dam.
Continuing on, you will head for the Geysir geothermal area in Haukadalur Valley, home to the Geysir hot spring. Although Geysir doesn’t erupt often, it is surrounded by bubbling cauldrons of superheated mud, steaming pools and Strokkur, a geyser that erupts every 6-10 minutes. The geothermal activity at this popular destination is much like that happening all across and beneath Iceland that naturally powers countless hot tubs, swimming pools and greenhouses.
That same energy is used to bake bread underground at the aptly named Geothermal Bakery. After learning about the process, you will help extract a loaf of dark rye bread from the ground oven and sample it. If you wish, you can slather on butter and top the bread with a piece of herring or trout.
Later, you will see Kerið, a volcanic crater lake located in the Grímsnes area that is one of the most visually stunning geological wonders in the country. This vibrant blue gem, which is part of the Western Volcanic Zone that includes the Reykjanes peninsula and the Langjökull Glacier, is it one of the three most recognizable volcanic craters in Iceland because of its unique red rock.
Once you return to the hotel, the remainder of the day will be at your leisure with dinner on your own.
After breakfast at the hotel, you will depart for a full day of touring south Iceland. While traveling through a mountain pass and into fertile farmland, you will enjoy astonishing views of the countryside, especially along this section of the Ring Road, which is flanked by rugged mountains, glittering glaciers and towering volcanoes.
Depending on the weather conditions, you may see Eyjafjallajökull, the site of a volcanic eruption in 2010 that was so enormous that its ash cloud halted Europe’s air traffic for several days.
Later, you will behold the beauty of Seljalandsfoss waterfall as it tumbles off Eyjafjallajökull Glacier into a deep pool below. If you don’t mind getting wet, you can walk behind the cascade to see it from the other side.
You will also see the majestic waterfall Skógafoss and stroll along the black volcanic sand beach at Reynisfjara. The basalt sea stacks rising out of the water there are absolutely spectacular.
Upon returning to the hotel, the remainder of the day will be at your leisure with dinner on your own.
After breakfast at the hotel and check out, you are transferred to the Reykjavik International Airport for your flight. Transfers will be set up according to the flight details provided. Luggage storage is available at the hotel for guests with later flights. Check out time at the hotel is at 12:00pm.

Discover the natural wonders of southwestern Iceland, a gorgeous landscape of thundering waterfalls, ancient glaciers, geothermal phenomena and unspoiled national parks.
After disembarking the ship in Reykjavik, you will depart for a full day tour along the magnificent west coast of Iceland.
Your first stop is at Deildartunguhver, Europe´s most powerful hot spring. It provides 180 l/sec of 100°C hot water.
Most of the water used for central heating in the towns of Borgarnes and Akranes is taken from Deildartunguhver. The hot water pipeline to Akranes is 64 km long, the longest in Iceland and the water is about 78 - 80°C when it reaches Akranes. If you take a shower anywhere within a 65 km radius of the spring, you have already bathed in the hot water from this powerful spring!
Next, get to know little bit about Iceland’s past heroes with a visit to Snorralaug (Snorri’s Sturluson bath) in the small town of Reykholt. Snorri was a poet, historian and politican born into a powerful chieftain family in the 13th century. Although you can no longer bathe here, you will learn how the thermal water from the hot spring Skrifla is led to the basin through a conduit.
Continue your drive to Hraunfossar Lava Falls, a beautiful and unusual natural phenomenal that has been protected since 1987. Clear, cold springs of subterranean water seep through the lava and run as tiny waterfalls and rapids into the Hvita River.
Next, stop at another waterfall, Barnafoss “Children´s Fall”, a magical site in and of itself, twisting, turning, foaming and churning as it races down a narrow valley, from which you can view it from above. Barnafoss has also been a protected site since 1987. You will then head to lunch at a local restaurant.
After lunch, another adventure awaits you at the largest of all caves in Iceland, Víðgelmir. It is the size of 148,000 cubic meters, and one of the largest lava caves in the world. It has beautiful ice formations and deep inside there are lava stalactities and stalagmites. Víðgelmir lava cave is considered by specialists to be one of the most remarkable caves on earth.
Finally, you will reach your accommodation for the evening - Hótel Húsafell or similar countryside hotel. A three-course dinner is included.
Following breakfast and check- out, you will depart for the Golden Circle tour ending in Reykjavík.
Drive towards Þingvellir National Park, a remarkable geological phenomenon and the most important historical site in Iceland. Þingvellir is situated by the biggest lake in Iceland called Þingvallavatn, the site of the world`s oldest democratic parliament founded in the year 930. The beautiful canyon running through the park is actually the meeting point of two of the earth`s tectonic plates and the area`s combination of natural phenomena and historical significance make it inseparable from the fabric of Icelandic national life. In 2004 the site of Þingvellir was inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
The next stop is Gullfoss Waterfall, which roars through a rugged canyon before plummeting more than 100 feet down. The water from the White River falls in two stages, which adds even more drama to its descent. Gullfoss means Golden Waterfall in Icelandic because of the color of the water, which originates from a sediment-rich glacier.
Drive to Geysir, geothermal area where your will have the opportunity to see hot springs in abundances as well as the famous geyser "Strokkur" that spouts every few minutes, shooting column of piping hot water up to 20m (60 feet). After exploring the highlights on the Golden Circle, the group will enjoy a unique food experience at Friðheimar, a family-owned restaurant.
Followed by lunch guests can opt to take a dip at The Secret Lagoon natural hot springs, located in the geothermal area near the village of Flúðir. The Secret Lagoon was made in 1891 and is one of the oldest swimming pools in Iceland. The pools natural surroundings and steam rising into the air give the place a magical feeling. Around the lagoon you will find several hot spots and a walking path so guests can have a closer look at the boiling hot springs.
NOTE: There are change facilities at the Secret Lagoon and towels will be provided
Proceed to your hotel for check in and dinner on your own.
Overnight at Hótel Borg or similar hotel
The Reykjanes Peninsula holds many geological wonders – one of the country’s deepest lakes, bubbling and steaming earth and the world-renowned Blue Lagoon.
After breakfast, your journey commences with a pleasant drive through the lively port town of Hafnarfjörður, situated picturesquely on an ancient lava flow. Head towards the renowned Blue Lagoon which is in the middle of a beautiful lava field, seemingly in the middle of nowhere in an otherworldly landscape. The Lagoon’s aquamarine colored water, the steam and the lava landscape surrounding it succeed in creating a unique and memorable atmosphere.
After relaxing in the warm waters of the lagoon you will head across the impressive volcanic plateau of Reykjanes, driving through the bustling fishing village of Grindavík before arriving at Krýsuvík, where the striking landscape has been shaped by volcanic eruptions and violent movements of the earth. In the geothermal field, powerful jets of steam escape from deep below the earth’s crust and the multicolored pools of boiling mud bubble and pop continuously.
On your way back to the city you will drive along the enchanting Kleifarvatn Lake, one of the deepest lakes in Iceland. To stretch your legs, snap a few photographs and enjoy the rugged but scenic landscape.
Return to your hotel where the afternoon and evening are at your leisure and lunch and dinner are on your own.
Your hotel overlooks the beautiful square of Austurvöllur, in the heart of Reykjavík, across from Althingi, the Icelandic parliament and the cathedral. The Borg, which has become one of Reykjavik’s landmarks, is conveniently located within walking distance of variety of restaurants, businesses, souvenir shops, art galleries and specialty shops.
Following breakfast and check-out, you will transfer to the Keflavik Airport based on your flight departure time.
Should you have a late flight, luggage can be stored at the hotel until your transfer time.

Explore the wilds of the Icelandic highlands in a Super Jeep and a snowmobile, during which you will visit historical sites, hot springs, ancient glaciers, roaring waterfalls and mountain lakes steeped in eerie legends.
NOTE: This program involves three days of being driven in 4x4 off-road vehicles called “Super Jeeps”, as well as a snowmobiling tour. Guests with back injuries should not participate as the roads and trails may be quite bumpy.
After disembarking the ship in Reykjavik, your group will drive off in 4x4 vehicles. Crafted for uniquely tough conditions, these vehicles are custom-built with up to three transmissions, two steering systems, turbocharged engines, an array of radio equipment, marine-type satellite navigation and the world’s biggest road-legal tires. Only professional drivers, who are often the owners, are allowed to pilot them. Super Jeeps have been used off road to cross Antarctica and traverse the wild Icelandic highlands. They are just as suitable for highway driving.
Your caravan of Super 4x4 vehicles will head towards Þingvellir National Park, a remarkable geological phenomenon and important historical site. Located by Þingvallavatn, the biggest lake in Iceland, Þingvellir is where the world’s oldest democratic parliament was founded in 930 AD.
The beautiful canyon running through the park is the meeting point of two tectonic plates. UNESCO deemed the area a World Heritage site because of its combination of natural phenomena and historical significance.
After Þingvellir, you will drive to the Geysir geothermal area, where you will see abundant hot springs, as well as the famous geyser Strokkur, which erupts every few minutes, shooting a column of hot water high into the air.
After lunch, another extraordinary adventure awaits you at Langjökull glacier, where you will go on a snowmobile safari on Iceland’s second-biggest glacier. Langjökull is an endless source of adventure with plenty of off-road opportunities.
Snowmobiles are great fun and easy to operate. They are two-seated touring sleds with hand warmers and high windshields. The guides will lead the snowmobile adventure into the Icelandic highlands, where you will be treated to majestic views of the Langjökull glacier and its surroundings.
Langjökull has several enormous ice-filled volcanic craters, rimmed in by imposing volcanoes and set in the breathtaking Icelandic interior. The views from the flanks of Langjökull are spectacle. You will also see Eiríksjökull glacier, the highest mountain in west Iceland, dome shaped Hofsjökull glacier in middle of the highlands and the Kerlingafjöll mountain range.
Back in your vehicle, you will next drive to Gullfoss waterfall, which roars through a rugged canyon before plummeting more than 100 feet. The water from the White River falls in two stages, which adds even more drama to its descent. Gullfoss means Golden Waterfall in Icelandic because of the color of the water, which originates from a sediment-rich glacier.
After this day of rugged adventure, your accommodation for the night will be the Land Hotel or similar in the south of Iceland.
NOTE: Guests on Splendor's August 7 sailing, 2023 will stay at Grimsborgir Hotel as Land Hotel is not available.
Following breakfast, depart for the Secret Lagoon where you will learn how Icelanders use geothermal hot water to nourish both their body and soul.
Your first stop is for an optional dip in The Secret Lagoon which is located in the geothermal area near the village of Flúðir. The Secret Lagoon was made in 1891 and is one of the oldest swimming pools in Iceland. The pools natural surroundings and steam rising into the air give the place a magical feeling. Around the lagoon you will find several hot spots and a walking path built so you can have a closer look at the boiling hot springs.
Next you will visit the greenhouse Friðheimar which offers a horse show called Meeting with the Icelandic Horse. The show gives you an insight into the story of this remarkable horse breed which was brought to Iceland by the first settlers from Scandinavia around 900 AD. The Icelandic horse is small, sturdy breed, famed for its five gaits: in addition to the walk, trot and gallop, Icelandic horses have the tölt (a smooth run) and skeið (flying pace). Four- and five- gaiters are prized. Later you can visit the stable, enjoy a hot drink and meet the riders and their steeds.
Lunch follows in the greenhouse Friðheimar where you will be surrounded by lush tomato plants.
When you arrive back to Reykjavík, check into the Hilton Hotel or similar and spend the reminder of the day as you please. Dinner is on your own.
NOTE: there are change facilities at the Secret Lagoon and towels will be provided.
Following breakfast and check out from the hotel, you will meet your Super Jeep driver for another adventure in the volcanic countryside. It will start with a pleasant drive through Hafnarfjörður town, situated on an ancient lava flow. Driving towards Kleifarvatn Lake, you will take an interesting off-road shortcut that will show off the capabilities of your 4x4 vehicle. The tuff stone mountains, reflected in the waters of the lake, lend an eerie stillness to the surroundings that make the folk tales of serpent-like lake monsters sound almost believable.
After pausing for photos, you will continue to the multicolored deposits from the hot springs of Seltún, where you can walk among the boiling mud pools and hissing steam vents. It looks like an otherworldly landscape with bright yellow, red and green steamy soil.
Another stop will be made at photogenic Grænavatn or “green lake,” a crater from a volcanic eruption that filled with bright green water. Grænavatn is one of the most noteworthy phenomena of its kind in Iceland.
You will then continue across breathtaking lava fields with a stop at Strandarkirkja Church prior to lunch of Icelandic lobster at a restaurant by the ocean. Afterwards, you will head off the beaten track by following a trail known as The Thousand Waters, where the road winds through numerous rivers, mud banks and streams.
Return to Reykjavik where the remainder of the evening is at your leisure and dinner is on your own.
Following breakfast and check-out, you will transfer to the Keflavik Airport based on your flight departure time. Should you have a late flight, luggage storage will be available at the hotel until your transfer.
