Disney Magic Ship Overview

The Disney Magic is the cruise ship that started it all for Disney Cruise Line. With its maiden voyage in 1998, the world was introduced to an entirely different kind of cruising. In an industry that seems to be increasingly focused on mind-numbingly huge mega ships boasting roller coasters, bumper cars, and casinos , the Disney Magic holds its own and offers a unique experience that – while perhaps a bit more low-key – still has something to entertain the entire family.

After stepping onboard to the applause of the Crew and your fellow passengers, you’re immediately enveloped in the grand atrium of the ship, where a statue of Helmsman Mickey makes a popular photo spot. A glance around reveals art deco touches and hints of the sea itself, all invoking the early days of seafaring ocean liners.

How is Disney Magic Different From Other Disney Cruise Ships?

As the first-ever ship for Disney Cruise Line, the Disney Magic broke all kinds of long-standing norms for the cruise industry – introducing fireworks at sea, rotational dining, and many more innovations.

Now, with five ships in the fleet and more Disney Cruise ships under construction , you might think the Magic is a relic of the past. Not so.

The ship receives frequent updates, most recently in 2023 with the addition of a new lounge onboard. Its biggest upgrades came in 2013 when the ship underwent an overhaul so massive that they actually had to put in additional buoyancy capabilities to handle the added weight!

Thanks to this kind of attention, the Magic still has plenty of innovations and unique experiences that can only be found onboard this ship. For example, it’s the only Disney cruise ship on which you’ll find the AquaDunk drop-style water slide (added during the ship’s 2013 “re-imagination”).

The Disney Magic is a sister ship to the Disney Wonder , meaning the two are relatively equal in terms of construction (though similar areas on each ship are themed differently from one another). They’re the smallest ships in the fleet, easily outsized by other Disney ships.

Does the Smaller Size Make Disney Magic Better or Worse?

There are pros and cons to both types of ships, but it’s really going to come down to personal preference.

The smaller size of the Disney Magic means it’s much easier to navigate on foot – you’re just a short walk away from virtually any point on the ship. My wife and I prefer smaller ships such as the Magic for this very reason — it’s great to know that we can get pretty much anywhere onboard with a 5-10 minute walk and not be exhausted when we get there.

On the larger ships, I feel like I have to factor in “commute time” for dinner and shows. For the Disney Magic, it feels like I’m just walking around the corner. This makes the Disney Magic a great option for your first-ever Disney Cruise — it might not feel quite as overwhelming as a larger ship could.

This smaller ship is also able to visit ports that are inaccessible to larger ships, so you’re able to experience some fun itineraries and ports you might not be able to visit on a larger ship. In years past, the Disney Magic would actually sail straight right past the Doge’s Palace in Venice, Italy! (Cruise ships have since been prohibited from doing so, but it certainly was a sight back in the day.)

The Disney Magic has never really felt “small” to me — just “small in comparison.” If you’re more-accustomed to mega ships, you might prefer other Disney ships such as the Disney Dream , Disney Fantasy , or Disney Wish ; on the other hand, you might appreciate the easier access to everything that comes with a smaller ship. It’s worth noting that while the larger Disney ships tend to upsize everything — meaning that theatres, dining rooms, and pools might be bigger — most of the ships still have relatively equal offerings. As an example, the Magic (smaller) and Dream (larger) both have three major restaurants, a night club district, kids clubs, pools, waterslides, a water ride, a spa, and live shows — just with differences in size, layout, and theming.

Disney Magic Staterooms

A bed and couch in a Disney Cruise stateroom, leading to an outdoor balcony verandah

Let’s first focus on your own private room onboard the ship. Your stateroom (passenger cabin) is essentially your hotel room at sea, so it’s an important choice to make!

The Disney Magic has 875 staterooms, most of which offer an outside view via either a porthole window or a verandah balcony. Staterooms on the ship are divided into four primary types of rooms; each of those four types is further divided into multiple categories and subcategories. The type of room you choose is one of the biggest factors in the price of your cruise , because the per-person cost changes as the stateroom category changes.

Here is a consolidated list of the room types offered onboard. They’re listed here generally from least expensive to most expensive, though there may be some price overlap. For a more in-depth look at each of these room types, see the descriptions and photos posted in our Disney Cruise Staterooms article.

Inside Staterooms on Disney Magic

Inside Staterooms have no porthole window and no balcony. They do have a round mirror that sort of looks like a porthole, but all you’ll see through it is your reflection. The standard version of this stateroom is the smallest, while the deluxe version is slightly larger.

The standard version is also the only regular stateroom category on the ship which does not feature a split bathroom configuration; a split bathroom has a toilet/sink in a separate room from the shower/sink, allowing two people to get ready at the same time.

Disney Magic Dining and Lounges

The dining room of Animator's Palate, with oversized art brushes and colorful light fixtures resembling an artist's paint palate.

It’s a well-known fact that cruises feature virtually endless food options , and the Disney Magic is no exception. With three sensational main dining restaurants, an elegant adult-only dining option, and plenty of places to grab a quick meal or a snack on the go, you certainly won’t go hungry onboard this ship.

Rotational Dining Restaurants on Disney Magic

Like all Disney Cruise Ships, the Disney Magic offers rotational dining during the nightly dinner service. This Disney Cruise Line innovation pre-schedules you to visit a different restaurant on each night of the cruise. You’ll have the same waitstaff each night, so they’ll get to know you and your food preferences.

Dinner at these three restaurants is included in the cost of your Disney Cruise .

  • Animator’s Palate

A large video screen on the wall in Animator's Palate

The flagship dining experience on the first four Disney ships (including Disney Magic), Animator’s Palate offers a fan-favorite menu along with a taste of the magic of animation.

Menu-wise, you’ll find Asian, Pacific, and California influences: wild mushroom risotto, black truffle pasta purseittes (a DCL favorite!), butternut squash soup, polenta cake with tomato and mushroom, lemon-thyme marinated chicken, beef tenderloin, and more.

Your dinner also includes a tribute to animation – Drawn to Magic tells the story of how an animated feature comes to life. Much like a cartoon goes from a pencil sketch to ink-and-paint, the entire dining room goes from black-and-white to color during your meal, thanks to a bit of help from Sorcerer Mickey.

On longer cruises, you might also experience Animation Magic , allowing you to draw your own character and see it animated as part of the dinner show! This is one of those amazingly cool experiences that really sets Disney Cruise Line apart from any other offering at sea.

The dining room at Lumiere's, with a scene from Beauty & The Beast on the wall.

Lumiere’s offers French cuisine in an elegant setting. Menu options may include a bacon and mushroom tart, French onion soup, escargot, roast duck, avocado citrus salad, sea bass, and lobster mac-and-cheese. Round out your meal with creme brulee or a delightful Grand Marnier souffle.

Outside of dinner service, Lumiere’s is also an option for breakfast and lunch on most days; you’ll find a more-Americanized menu during those meal periods.

  • Rapunzel’s Royal Table

Disney character Rapunzel reaches for a floating lantern in the dining room of Rapunzel's Royal Table

You’re invited to a special celebration for Rapunzel in the kingdom of Corona! Thanks to a little Disney magic, your night at the restaurant just happens to fall during the celebration of Rapunzel’s birthday and the anniversary of her return to the kingdom. A true royal feast unfolds… stuffed ravioli, ahi tuna tartare, smoked salmon, lemon & thyme roast chicken, prime rib, and the pun-definitely-intended angel hair pasta with sea scallops.

Dinner here includes a show: singing, dancing, the brusque yet lovable crew from the Snuggly Duckling, and a visit from Flynn and Rapunzel! All together, it makes for a fantastic meal with a hint of character dining .

Adult-Exclusive Dining on the Disney Magic

A Disney Cruise is certainly a family affair, but it’s not by any means just for kids. There are plenty of ways for adults to have fun on a Disney Cruise . One of those is to enjoy an adult-exclusive dinner while the kids enjoy the youth clubs.

Reserve a table at Palo for a delightful meal featuring memorable Italian cuisine. The stunning venue includes giant windows overlooking the ocean, providing a perfect backdrop for your meal.

Dinner menu items include butternut agnolotti, seared sea scallops, dover sole expertly fileted at your tableside, tiramisù, and their signature chocolate soufflé. On sea days, a tremendously-popular brunch service is typically offered.

Dining here requires an upcharge and space is usually in high demand; book as early as your onboard booking window allows.

Casual Dining on the Disney Magic Cruise Ship

Breakfast and lunch are casual affairs onboard – and one of the best places to enjoy these meals is at Cabanas.

The buffet-style Cabanas restaurant offers a mix of American, European, and Asian favorites in an all-you-care-to-eat breakfast and lunch served from nearly a dozen food stations.

In the morning, enjoy all the expected items – made-to-order omelets, bacon, sausage, Mickey Waffles, and such – along with international offerings that might include Huevos Rancheros, rice, and miso soup. I myself don’t usually include gravlax on my breakfast menu at home, but enjoy it as a nice change on my cruise breakfast plate. And every cruise I look forward to enjoying a giant bowl of fresh muesli with dried fruits and nuts to start my day (alongside a Mickey Waffle or two).

Lunch at Cabanas is an ever-changing mix of freshly-grilled meats, jumbo iced shrimp and crab claws, burgers, sandwiches, pizza, and more.

Cabanas also offers a dinner service alternative. It’s not buffet style at night – you’ll have a server at your table – but it’s a nice alternative if you’ve had your fill of the main dining rooms on a longer cruise.

Lounges, Bars, and Snacks on the Disney Magic

There’s always a place to grab a quick bite or a refreshing drink onboard. Whether you’re looking for a nibble, just want a soda, or are seeking something with a bit of alcohol , you’ll easily find it onboard. Here are just a few highlights:

An adults-only retreat that focuses on specialty coffees and teas during the day, with cocktails in the evening.

This family-friendly venue hosts interactive events for all ages. Karaoke, trivia, game shows, and even dance parties can be found here on a daily basis.

Daisy’s De-Lites, Duck-In Diner, and Pinocchio’s Pizzeria

For a quick grab-and-go snack poolside, check out these quick service windows. You’ll find pizza, burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, chicken tenders, and even shawarma.

Eye Scream Treats and Frozone Treats

Cool down with all-you-can eat soft-serve ice cream cones (included in the cost of your cruise!), or spend a bit for a specialty smoothie.

An undersea-themed lounge that combines cocktails with live entertainment, such as comedy, music, karaoke, and interactive game shows.

An adults-only piano lounge featuring live music in a classy 1950s Hollywood atmosphere. Enjoy beer, wine, and of course martinis.

  • O’Gills Pub

The Disney Magic’s sports bar. Live matches (when available) are beamed in via satellite to this lively venue. Try the Blarney Stone Tasting Flight, with selections of whisky and Irish coffee.

Soda Station

One major difference between Disney Cruise dining and other cruise lines is that most non-alcoholic drinks are included at no additional cost — no need to purchase a separate drink package ! Located near the pool, this soda station offers unlimited refills all day long.

  • Soul Cat Lounge

Themed to the Disney•PIXAR film Soul . It’s located along the path leading to Rapunzel’s Royal Table, making it a great spot for a pre/post dinner drink and zeppole (fried dough pastry) — all accompanied by live music.

Room Service on Disney Magic

Room Service is included at no additional charge on the Disney Magic – all you’re expected to pay for is a tip for the crew member who delivers the food (and any specialty items you might opt for).

The standard menu typically includes salads, soups, chicken tenders, burgers and sandwiches, and even hot wings.  You’ll also typically find a couple of flatbread/pizza selections and perhaps a pasta dish. Cookies and cake/pie are the standard dessert.

A favorite among Disney Cruise Line’s repeat cruisers is the All Hands on Deck , a plate of assorted cheese, fruit, and crackers. And here’s a secret menu item that’s sure to delight kids of all ages: the famed Mickey’s Premium ice cream bar – yes, the same as those you find at Disney World and Disneyland!

If you don’t mind paying a bit extra, you can add on specialty items such as beer, wine, canned soft drinks, deluxe coffees, juices, and pre-packaged snacks such as candies.

Best Bets for Each Meal on Disney Magic

Below we list each of the main meal periods onboard the ship, and your best options for each.

  • Primary option: Cabanas is the prime breakfast spot onboard with long hours, a wide variety, and all you care to eat. The downside of this location is that its popularity can make it feel a bit hectic at times.
  • Secondary option: One of the three rotational restaurants (typically Lumiere’s) usually offers a table-service breakfast, complete with a server who will bring your food and keep your drinks refilled. The menu is a bit more limited than at Cabanas, but it’s usually a much more relaxed option to start your day.
  • Other options: You can order room service, but be forewarned that the breakfast menu is extremely limited. There’s no “hot breakfast” (eggs, bacon, sausage, oatmeal) on the menu, but you can get juices, coffees, pastries, and cold cereals. Elsewhere on the ship, you can likely find a light pastry at one of the cafes onboard, but don’t expect a filling meal.
  • Primary option: Like at breakfast, Cabanas is the best lunch option thanks to its tremendous selection. Iced jumbo shrimp and crab claws are a signature menu item most days; you’ll also find freshly grilled meats, a wide variety of side items, some interesting international selections, and lots of tempting desserts.
  • Secondary option: If you’re spending the afternoon lounging by the pool, there’s no need to dry off and head inside when a craving hits. Just drip your way on over to one of the many food service windows along the pool deck to enjoy a quick meal.  Options are more limited than Cabanas, but you’ll find enough to satisfy that rumbly in your tumbly with burgers, dogs, sandwiches, and unlimited ice cream cones. These windows often offer extended hours – a great option if you missed lunch hours at Cabanas or need a snack to hold you over until a later dinner service.
  • Other options : Lumiere’s typically serves a lunch option with open seating and waitstaff at your table. Room Service is another good option; your menu options won’t be terribly exciting, but you can still get a filling meal without leaving your couch (well, except to answer the door).
  • Primary option: Your assigned rotational dining restaurant is the heart of Disney Cruise dining. Your dedicated service team follows you all voyage long and will likely become your favorite Crew Members onboard the ship. Add in special themed menus and other thoughtful touches, and you’ll quickly see why this is a highlight of each day onboard.
  • Secondary option: As an alternative to your pre-scheduled rotational dining restaurant, you might opt to experience Cabanas in a totally new way. Dinner at Cabanas is an entirely different experience than the free-for-all buffet-style offerings that are the mainstay of breakfast and lunch. You’ll be seated at a table, and a server will present you a menu that features some of the most popular selections from other restaurants. It’s typically very laid back and it makes for a nice alternative, especially if a particular themed night at your assigned restaurant doesn’t sound like your speed..
  • Other options: Many cruisers enjoy dedicating at least one night of their cruise to an adult-exclusive meal at Palo. Otherwise, you can always grab something from the quick-service windows on the pool deck, or order room service.

Off-hours Eating and Snacking

  • Primary option: For cravings outside the main meal periods, your best bet is the quick-service options on the pool deck. Their generous hours and snacky offerings make them a great choice to tide you over between meals. Individual portions tend to be “snack sized” (such as 2 or 3 chicken tenders and a few fries), so you won’t spoil your dinner. But it’s still all-you-can-eat so you can certainly fill up if you desire.
  • Secondary option: Room Service is available 24/7 (up until about 1:30 AM on the last morning of your cruise), and is the only option for overnight snacking. Whether you’re craving buffalo wings at 4:00 AM (no judgment) or just want some warm cookies and milk at bedtime, room service won’t leave you hungry.

Disney Magic Pools and Water Slides

Image of the Aqua Dunk water slide, with a large clear tube coiled alongside the Disney Magic's distinctive red funnels (featuring a white Mickey Mouse silhouette and blue wave design)

The AquaDunk is a drop-style water slide that’s only found onboard the Disney Magic – not even its sister ship the Disney Wonder has one!

Your adventure begins when you climb the steps to the top of one of Disney Magic’s iconic red smokestack funnels; there, you’ll step into the launch chamber of a 215-foot-long water slide tube. Cross your arms and enjoy the exquisite suspense before the floor drops out from beneath you trapdoor-style, sending you plummeting about forty feet straight down and careening out over the edge of the ship (still safely encased in the clear tube). Seconds later, you’ll splash down in a shallow run-out area that makes it easy to stand up, perform the necessary wedgie extraction (since we’re being honest here), and head out for more fun.

The ride is almost comically short – less than 10 seconds from trapdoor to splashdown – but it’s quite exhilarating.

There’s no additional charge to ride the AquaDunk, but you will have to wait in line (sorry, no FastPass or Lightning Lane here). Lines tend to be longest on Sea Days and shorter when the ship is in port. Riding earlier or later can also help avoid crowds – just don’t forget to check the operating hours each day in the Navigator app.

Guests must be at least 48” tall to ride.

Twist ’n’ Spout

Part of the AquaLab (see below), Twist ‘n’ Spout is a bright yellow double-looping waterslide. You’ll twist and turn over almost 250 feet before a thrilling splashdown. Guests must be at least 38” tall to ride, and adult supervision is required for kids under age 16.

Pools and Splash Pads

The AquaLab on the Disney Magic, with the giant Twist 'n' Spout slide's yellow tubes behind a shallow pool and splash zone

This multi-level water playground is a great place for kids to cool off during their cruise. It includes a small pool, a “beach” with geysers and pop jets, pouring “paint” cans and showerheads, leaky pipes, and the amusing Donald’s Boiler – a familiar-shaped contraption that occasionally drenches everyone. Intended for ages 3+; adult supervision required for those under age 16.

Goofy’s Pool

The main pool onboard the ship, Goofy’s Pool on deck 9 serves as the family pool onboard. In addition to the large main pool, you’ll also find a couple of whirlpool tubs nearby. The giant FunnelVision video screen and a large stage are nearby, so there’s always something to keep you entertained while swimming. Intended for ages 3+ (must be toilet trained), with adult supervision required for those under age 16. This pool is occasionally closed so that it can be covered and used as additional deck space for major events, such as the sail-away party.

Nephews’ Splash Zone

Tiny travelers aged 3 years or younger can splash away the day among a veritable sea of spraying water and pop jets. Swim diapers are required, and children must be supervised by an adult.

Quiet Cove Pool

A serene oasis for the grown-ups. Those under the age of 18 are not permitted in this adults-only escape, not because anything elicit happens there but rather because every age group needs a bit of time to themselves. You’ll find a pool and whirlpool tubs here, along with plenty of lounge chairs and easy access to the adult beverage of your choice.

Disney Magic Kids Clubs and Teen Clubs

DCL Oceaneer Club

You might expect a Disney Cruise to be overrun with children. And while there are certainly plenty of kids onboard, they spend a lot of time in the fantastic kids clubs on the ship so you might be surprised at how few kids you see at times. A substantial portion of Deck 5 is dedicated to those under age 12.

  • Disney’s Oceaneer Club

The Oceaneer Club is the place where your kids will likely spend a large amount of their time onboard. It’s a secure facility accessible only to kids aged 3-10 and trained youth activities staff. Inside there are tons of kid-friendly spaces and activities, and it’s all included in the cost of your Disney cruise! This amazing kids club is one of the reasons we consider Disney to be the best cruise line for children .

Andy’s Room

Kids are immersed in the world of Disney·Pixar’s Toy Story movies in this unique multi-level play area.

Marvel Super Hero Academy

Themed as a top-secret S.H.I.E.L.D. facility, this area gives kids the chance to summon their inner Super Hero (and visit with a few real ones, too!). There’s plenty of time for freeform play, and occasional structured activities.

Disney Junior Area

A favorite of younger Oceaneers, the Disney Junior area features games, characters, and more.

Pixie Hollow

In this enchanted forest realm – home to Tinker Bell and her fairy friends – kids will find everything they need for a game of dress-up, a special craft project, or storytime.

  • Disney’s Oceaneer Lab

A partner facility to the Oceaneer Club, the Oceaneer Lab offers lots of hand-on activities and experiences for kids ages 3-10.

Tweens and young teens – ages 11 to 14 – have a space all to themselves onboard the Disney Magic. Edge is the perfect place to relax thanks to its moody boiler room feel. There’s a huge video screen, a dance floor, plus plenty of video games and crafts. A mix of planned activities and unstructured free time keeps things interesting.

This teens-only retreat is in one of the coolest places on the ship – right inside one of the iconic red smokestack funnels! Those aged 14 to 17 can enjoy a specialty coffee or smoothie while relaxing with newfound friends. For techy types, there are plenty of TVs, video games, and tablets. Meanwhile, active teens will enjoy dance parties, karaoke sessions, and group activities.

it’s a small world nursery!

The tiniest cruisers are well taken care of in it’s a small world nursery! , an onboard babysitting service for infants and toddlers aged three and younger.

Disney youth counselors watch over the tykes and will also feed them and handle any necessary diaper changes.

This nursery service does require an additional (nominal) fee for each half-hour, with a one-hour minimum. Discounts are available for multiple children in the same family. Advanced reservations are strongly recommended. Note that there are no in-room babysitting services onboard.

Need Answers But Don’t Want To Wait On Hold?

Disney Magic Entertainment and Activities

Stage and seating of the Walt Disney Theatre

Disney is first and foremost an entertainment company – and that concept continues onboard its ships.

Broadway-Style Shows in the Walt Disney Theatre

Each night of your cruise, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy a live show in the beautiful Walt Disney Theatre. This includes at least three Broadway-style shows during your cruise, along with other additions (such as family-friendly comedians, magicians, and hypnotists) on longer voyages.

Disney Dreams – An Enchanted Classic

A touching tale of a young girl at the age of not believing – follow along as she learns how to believe in herself thanks to the power of positive thinking along with some help from favorite Disney characters and memorable music.

Tangled: The Musical

A lively musical retelling of Rapunzel’s adventures. Sing along with film favorites and learn a few new songs, too! This live stage adaptation of the popular film is sure to wow you – especially when the mesmerizing puppet of Maximus takes the stage.

Twice Charmed: An Original Twist on the Cinderella Story

And they all lived happily ever after! But what happened after the end of the Disney classic Cinderella ? This comedy explores the idea of time-traveling (!) wicked stepmothers and stepdaughters (thanks to help from, who else, a wicked Fairy Godfather) trying to destroy the glass slipper and wreck Cinderella’s marriage.

Pirate Night / Pirates in the Caribbean Deck Party with Fireworks

Pirate night starts with the delivery of pirate bandanas to your stateroom – then the party moves to your scheduled dining location for the evening, where a special themed menu awaits. Then, head up to the pool deck for a raucous show with high-flying pirates including favorite Disney characters. Finally, the grand finale (and another Disney innovation) – fireworks at sea!

Note: not every itinerary offers a pirate night, and fireworks may be canceled due to weather.

Disney Movies in the Buena Vista Theatre

First-run and classic favorite Disney, PIXAR, and LucasFilm movies are shown all day long in the Buena Vista Theatre. Best of all? It’s completely free! You don’t even need a ticket – just drop in at showtime and grab a seat.

Sailing during the premiere of a highly-anticipated Disney film? It’ll be shown repeatedly in the Buena Vista Theatre, likely after a huge “PremEAR at Sea” showing in the Walt Disney Theatre.

Disney Magic Spas and Salons

Pedicure chairs face large oceanview windows at Senses Spa on Disney Magic. Senses is offered on all Disney cruises.

If you think a massage is relaxing, imagine a massage while looking out over the ocean! Disney Magic offers a full-service spa onboard the ship, plus many other health and wellness services.

Senses Spa and Salon

Pamper yourself with spa treatments, salon services, and rejuvenation procedures at this restful retreat. Experience Swedish massage, aroma stone therapy, deep tissue massage, facials, acupuncture, teeth whitening, shampoo/cut/style, manicures, pedicures, CoolSculpting, and more. Complimentary non-alcoholic beverages, showers, lockers, sandals, and robes round out the offerings.

Exclusively for guests aged 13-17, this special area of Senses offers treatments to teens. A parent or guardian must accompany the teen for the duration of the treatment ( solo and combined treatments are offered as an option).

Fitness Center

Keep up your workout routine (and burn off the four desserts you ordered at dinner last night) in the Fitness Center. Stay in shape with weight machines, cardio equipment, ellipticals, treadmills, and other equipment; participate in a yoga, Pilates, or aerobics class; or opt for personalized one-on-one training and analysis with a professional trainer.

  • Walking/Jogging Track

I don’t spend much time in the gym, but I do enjoy a nice walk for exercise. The Disney Magic offers a walking/jogging track on Deck 4 that offers close-up ocean views as well as a neat glimpse of some of the heavy machinery that keeps the ship going (should you be into that sort of thing like I am). It’s a great place to take a leisurely stroll after dinner, or take a jog if you’re so inclined. You might even recognize your stateroom host or dinner server – off-duty, of course – out for a run.

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

There’s certainly something MAGICAL about sailing with Disney Cruise Line …

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

That is true no matter which of the fleet’s five ships you board for your voyage. (BTW, and that fleet will grow to EIGHT with the upcoming additions of the Disney Treasure , the Disney Destiny , and the Disney Adventure !) Here, though, we’re exploring the one that started it all — the OG Disney Cruise Line ship. This is the Ultimate Guide to Cruising on the Disney Magic !

From bow to stern, let’s explore everything you and your traveling crew can experience and enjoy on Disney Cruise Line’s FIRST ship!

Disney Magic Overview

The Disney Magic took her Maiden Voyage with passengers on July 30, 1998, bringing Disney characters, Disney stories, and — of course! — Disney MAGIC to the seas!

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

The Magic was joined by her sister ship, the Disney Wonder , in August of 1999. Together, these two vessels are Disney Cruise Line’s Classic ships.

In size and structure (with 11 Decks and 875 Staterooms) as well as passenger capacity (2,713 passengers), the Magic is similar to the Disney Wonder. These two Classic ships are the smallest of the fleet. But that certainly doesn’t mean they’re lacking one ounce of fun and adventure!

A hallmark of a Disney Cruise Line ship is a statue of a beloved Disney character taking pride of place in the ship’s Atrium, welcoming guests aboard.

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

On the Magic, that character is none other than Helmsman Mickey!

Beyond the similarities mentioned above, the Wonder and the Magic each have distinguishing features all their own… and one of those is WHERE the ships sail.

Disney Magic Destinations

The Disney Magic currently offers itineraries with cruise lengths ranging from 3 to 10 nights.

From Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the Magic offers Bahamian and Western Caribbean voyages. Select Bahamian sailings depart from Port Canaveral, as well.  It’s worth noting that, starting this summer, some of the Magic’s Bahamian cruises will visit Disney’s upcoming island destination, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point !

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

Many of those same sailings will stop at Disney’s beloved Castaway Cay , too!

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

The Magic also sails out of Galveston, Texas to the Western Caribbean. And two sailings from San Juan will visit the Southern Caribbean. An Eastern Caribbean voyage will sail from San Juan, as well. A wonderfully lengthy 10-night sailing will depart from Port Canaveral to the Eastern Caribbean in the summer of 2025. (And, yes, I am JEALOUS of those sailing on it!)

In fact, Disney Cruise Line recently released its Summer 2025 itineraries, and you can check them out here !

Click HERE to see the Summer 2025 Disney Cruise Line itineraries!

Disney magic entertainment.

The entertainment that’s unique to Disney Cruise Line kicks off RIGHT AWAY as your cruise begins with Mickey’s Sail-A-Wave Party.

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

When I say “unique to Disney Cruise Line,” that’s because the pals joining you in the entertainment throughout the voyage are none other than Disney characters !

Select sailings also present Disney Cruise Line’s famous Pirate Night Deck Party complete with Fireworks at Sea!

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

You may also experience the Frozen Deck Party on select itineraries.

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

And although we don’t really want to talk about the end of your cruise just yet, it’s worth noting that the last night of your voyage features the ‘Til We Meet Again Party in the ship’s Atrium.

But when it comes to entertainment options, Disney Cruise Line may be best known for its Broadway-style productions — presented in the Walt Disney Theatre — that tie in characters, beloved stories, and treasured music from the Disney films.

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

Guests on the Disney Magic can enjoy three shows, including Tangled: The Musical.

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

This live retelling of Tangled presents characters from the film you know and love (including stunning puppetry that brings Maximus to life before your eyes), and sets that deliver the Snuggly Duckling Tavern right to you! You’ll also hear familiar tunes including “I See the Light.”

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

But there are also THREE new songs that were written for this stage production: “Flower of Gold,” “Wanted Man” and “When the Princess Returns.”

Twice Charmed: An Original Twist on the Cinderella Story is exactly that: a TWIST on the beloved tale of Cinderella which picks up the story beyond the “Happily Ever After” at the end of the classic animated film.

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

As the Disney Cruise Line website shares: “In this musical, the story revolves around the premise: What if Cinderella never got a chance to slip on the glass slipper, leaving those nasty stepsisters with another chance to get their claws into Prince Charming?”

While Tangled: The Musical and Twice Charmed each put the focus on a specific Disney Story, Disney Dreams — An Enchanted Classic brings together oodles and oodles of Disney stories, characters, and signature songs!

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

In Disney Dreams, which Disney shares is a “musical about the power of dreams and family,” you’ll see familiar friends from Peter Pan, Aladdin, Cinderella , and Pinocchio . (Oh, and a certain fairy makes an appearance, too!)

P.S. You can pay a visit to Preludes before the show to pick up some popcorn (or perhaps a cocktail) to enjoy in the theatre!

Disney Magic Water Features

Looking for more family fun? There are LOTS of ways that passengers of all ages can MAKE A SPLASH on Deck 9 (and upwards!) of the Disney Magic.

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

Water areas for all ages include Goofy’s Pool and my personal favorite thing EVER, the Twist ‘n’ Spout water slide. (Why should kids get all the slides, huh? 😉 )

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

Speaking of slides, I have a confession to make: I have yet to brave the AquaDunk , which is exclusive to the Disney Magic! This enclosed body slide (which requires that passengers be at least 48 inches tall to ride) presents a true 3-story PLUNGE that even goes over the side of the ship!

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

I did, however, climb the stairs to the “launch” area on Deck 13 before I changed my mind, sooo …  PROGRESS! In all seriousness, this one is definitely for the thrill seekers out there, who are sure to have a blast!

Little ones have a splash space of their own with the Huey, Dewey, and Louie-themed AquaLab. This interactive play area is custom-made for sailors ages 3 and older , while the Nephew’s Splash Zone is dedicated to ages 3 and under .

For a more peaceful respite, the Quiet Cove Pool is reserved for guests over 18 years of age only. In addition to the pool (and its accompanying whirlpool spas), passengers in this exclusive area can visit Signals pool bar or sip on a specialty coffee or tea at the Cove Cafe .

Disney Magic Dining

Okay, now we’re REALLY talking… it’s time to chat about FOOD! The Disney Magic presents a wide array of options, starting with a Disney Cruise Line signature: Rotational Dining!

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

Rotational Dining means that guests have the chance to enjoy dinner at ALL THREE of the ships main dining rooms, each with their own theme and specialty menus on select nights. The best part is that, as you move to a different restaurant each evening, so do your servers! They “rotate” right along with you so they can get to know your group’s dining preferences.

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

The three Rotational Dining restaurants on the Disney Magic are Animator’s Palate, Lumiere’s and Rapunzel’s Royal Table.

Lumiere’s presents French cuisine for its specialty menu, served in a “Beauty and the Beast” -inspired setting… complete with roses that have dropped their petals intermingling with lighting on the ceiling.

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

Animator’s Palate is an innovative restaurant where the show is drawings coming to life on screens all around you. You may experience two different shows, depending on the length of your cruise.

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

Drawn to Magic is led by Sorcerer Mickey and displays the evolution of animation while guests dine on Pacific Island fusion cuisine. On 7-night and longer sailings, Animation Magic invites guests to draw their own characters and see them come alive in the restaurant.

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

Rapunzel’s Royal Table is exclusive to the Disney Magic, and not only is it a restaurant…

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

It’s also a Dinner Show on one evening of your voyage! When you dine at Rapunzel’s Royal Table, YOU are a guest at a banquet to celebrate Rapunzel’s birthday AND the anniversary of her return to the kingdom of Corona.

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

“Blondie” herself, along with Flynn Rider, and a few of the Snuggly Duckling Thugs make appearances and entertain you throughout your meal.

Be aware that, in addition to evening dinner, one or more of the Rotational Dining restaurants may be open to serve a table service breakfast or lunch.

A number of other options are available throughout the day, as well. Cabanas hosts a massive buffet for both breakfast and lunch. Help yourself!

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

Also on Deck 9, several Quick Service options serve classics like burgers, hot dogs, chicken strips and fries ( Duck-In Diner ), pizza ( Pinocchio’s Pizzeria ) and healthier fare like salads and sandwiches ( Daisy De-Lites ).

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

P.S. Don’t forget to follow up any and all of that with some soft-serve ice cream at Eye Scream Treats ! You can also stop by Frozone Treats to enjoy a cooling fruit smoothie for an extra charge.

Still hungry 😉 ? Well, we’ve got some great news: the majority of items available on the Room Service menu are INCLUDED with your Disney Cruise!

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

Even with all that, we’re not quite done with dining options just yet…

Disney Magic Adult Spaces

In addition to the Quiet Cove mentioned above, the Disney Magic also offers more areas reserved just for grown-ups. These include the fine dining restaurant, Palo , which may be booked for dinner for an additional charge per adult.

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

Additionally, the famous Palo Brunch is available for booking during sea days! This option is incredibly popular, so advance booking through your Disney Cruise Line account is recommended.

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

Be aware, as well, that Palo does have a dress code. The Disney Cruise Line website states: “ Formal or semi-formal attire is recommended. Also permitted is dress-casual attire with a polished look, such as dress pants, jeans in good condition, collared shirts, dressy tops and lifestyle shoes. For brunch at Palo and Palo Steakhouse, dress shorts are acceptable. Clothing such as T-shirts, swimwear and sports attire are not permitted.”

There is also the After Hours district, featuring three lounges for adults.

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

These are O’Gills Pub (an Irish pub-meets-sports-bar), Keys (piano bar), and Fathoms which, in addition to bar service also presents adult entertainment such as comedians, karaoke, and dancing for late-night options.

And the new Soul Cat Lounge brings a New York City jazz lounge to the high seas!

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

This Soul -inspired spot presents live music and offers a full bar that “serves up Manhattans, martinis and other Empire City-inspired craft cocktails.”

Adults might also opt to participate in a Mixology Class or  Beverage Tasting Seminar ! Featured liqueur and cocktail options include — but aren’t limited to — rum, tequila and margaritas, whiskey, champagne tastings, and more.

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

These fun opportunities are offered for an additional fee, and advance booking is highly recommended.  (Seriously… these seminars are POPULAR!)

The Senses Spa & Salon offers a wide array of services and treatments. (And the Rainforest Room provides an especially relaxing oasis!) Select experiences are available for pre-booking, and you can stop by Senses to inquire about prices for the Rainforest Room and other treatments during your cruise. And the adjacent Fitness Center offers workout machines and classes.

And though this is not limited to adults, keep in mind that if you’d like to get a jog or two in, Deck 4 hosts a walking track!

Disney Magic Kids Clubs and Experiences

Now let’s turn our attention to areas on the ship dedicated to children, offering experiences tailored for ages from infants to teens!

Deck 5 is home to the It’s a Small World Nursery for ages 6 months to 3 years old .

The same deck also hosts Disney’s Oceaneer Club AND Disney’s Oceaneer Lab for ages 3 to 10 . What’s the difference between the two?

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

Well, the Oceaneer Lab presents opportunities for learning fun, the Oceaneer Club features activities such as character experiences, story time, and play areas. (There are also specific guided activities for the littlest ones, ages 3 and 4.)

On the Magic, the Oceaneer Club features the following playful spaces: Andy’s Room (that’s Andy from Toy Story ), Marvel Super Hero Academy, Disney Junior, and Pixie Hollow.

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

The Oceaneer Lab , meanwhile, presents the following play spaces: Animator’s Studio, Captain’s Workshop, Craft Studio, and The Wheelhouse (for “captains in training”)!

The spaces are connected so kids can enjoy all of the areas, and Youth Activities counselors are present at all times. Parents will want to know that spaces for your child can be pre-registered via your Disney Cruise Line account, and registration may also take place onboard the ship.

Tweens (ages 11 to 14) can gather at the Edge on Deck 9 to hang out, watch movies, play games and make friends during group activities with fun Disney counselors and more!

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

Vibe  offers cruisers ages 14 to 17 similar activities geared to their age group, or simply a place to chill. And you want to know something really cool?

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

Vibe is located in the ship’s Forward Funnel!

We’ve got one more thing to mention, though it’s not a club, per se. For an extra fee, your little Prince or Princess age 3 to 12 can get a makeover at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique ! Disney Princess, knight, and sea captain-themed packages are available… and there’s an exclusive makeover for Pirate Party Nights!

Disney Magic Activities

Okay, now we’ve all spent some time with our own age groups. How about getting the whole gang back together for some fun? The Magic has got the family covered. D Lounge is the place to be for fun events like family game shows and trivia, dance parties and more!

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

Catch a movie on the big screen at the Buena Vista Theatre ! You might choose to watch a Disney animated classic, or maybe a Star Wars or Marvel flick. You never know… your sailing just might feature a first-run Disney feature film at sea! ( “Funnel Vision” on the pool deck shows movies on the big screen, too!)

You can find basketball courts and ping-pong tables on the Wide World of Sports Deck . But don’t look for shuffleboard here… that’s on Deck 4. 😉

Let’s see… it feels like I’m forgetting something… OH, YEAH! You can meet, hug, get autographs from and pose for pictures with your favorite DISNEY PALS !

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

Sailing with you are the Fab Five (that’s Mickey and the gang), Disney Princesses, friends from Frozen , and more! Be aware that, while all Character Greetings are included with your cruise, select Greeting times (such as Princess Gatherings) may require advance booking.

Disney Magic Staterooms

The Disney Magic offers four categories of staterooms: Inside, Oceanview, Verandah, and Concierge . Many of the rooms feature Disney’s innovative split bathroom which allows more guests in a cabin the chance to get ready at one time.

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

While each category boasts amenities such as premium mattresses and linens, a 22″ LCD flat-screen TV, a refrigerator, and a surprising amount of storage space, there are many more details to explore among the varying categories, so we’ve dedicated a page to those options here .

Discover the staterooms, dining options, entertainment, and more that await cruisegoers sailing on the Disney Magic.

Planning to set sail on a cruise aboard the Disney Magic? The inaugural Disney Cruise Line ship will forever hold a special place in the history of the most magical cruise line for being the ship that started it all. On board, you’ll find stunning entertainment, fun characters, and fantastic dining to enjoy. We’re taking you through a full guide of everything you’ll find on the Disney Magic!

About the Disney Magic

  • Entertainment

DLR Magazine Annual Digital Subscription

Wdw magazine annual digital subscription, wdw magazine monthly digital subscription.

The Disney Magic was the inaugural Disney Cruise Line ship, making it a particularly special one in the fleet. The ship had its maiden voyage on July 30, 1998, sailing to Nassau, Bahamas with a stop at Castaway Cay. While the ship originally hosted weekly cruises through the Caribbean from Port Canaveral, it expanded over time to include sailings to the West Coast, and Europe as well.

The ship was designed with the inspiration of the historic RMS Queen Mary and can fit up to 2,713 passengers. The ship offers a variety of staterooms, including Inside Staterooms, and Outside Staterooms that offer guests a verandah to enjoy the view of the ocean.

The Disney Magic Stern features Goofy, shown painting the logo himself. Inside the ship you’ll find the exquisite entertainment and dining options the Disney Cruise Line has come to be known for. Along with fine dining like Palo and Lumiere’s, you can enjoy character dining with the Tangled-inspired Rapunzel’s Royal Table. In total, there are 11 decks  to explore on the Disney Magic, and we’re sharing a bit more of what you can find below!

Where Does the Disney Magic Sail?

For 2024 and 2025 sailings, the Disney Magic departs from ports at Port Canaveral in Florida, Galveston in Texas, New Orleans in Louisiana, San Diego in California, and San Juan in Puerto Rico. The ship sails to the Bahamas, Caribbean, Meixco, and the Panama Canal on various length trips, anywhere from three to seven nights.

Staterooms on the Disney Magic

In total, there are 875 staterooms on the Disney Magic, about two-thirds of what you’ll find on the newest ship, the Disney Wish. In total, there are 262 Inside Staterooms, and 613 Outside Staterooms (229 with an oceanview, and 384 with a verandah). There are also a variety of 22 suites onboard for a larger living space.

When it comes to choosing accommodations, you can choose from Concierge, which is the largest accommodation with a private verandah. Or, you can choose a non-concierge room with a private verandah, the second largest room available. There are also Oceanview rooms offering a porthole or two, as well as Inside Staterooms with no view outside.

Inside Staterooms

On the Disney Magic, you’ll have one inside stateroom option: a Standard Inside Stateroom . There is no exterior or ocean view to be found in these rooms, but they do sleep up to four adults in total. Your two options are:

  • Deluxe Inside Stateroom
  • Standard Inside Stateroom

The Deluxe Inside Stateroom has more square footage than the Standard Inside Stateroom , with 214 sq. ft. versus 184 sq. ft. Both types of rooms can sleep up to three or four, with a queen bed, single sleeper sofa, and upper berth pull-down bed available. The Deluxe Inside Stateroom also comes with a “split bath,” meaning there’s one bathroom with a vanity, sink, shower, and tub, then a half bathroom with a vanity, sink, and toilet. By comparison, the Standard Inside Stateroom offers one full bathroom with a vanity, sink, shower and tub.

Oceanview Staterooms

The Oceanview Staterooms offer a few of the sea from your room through one or two portholes. While these won’t have a deck for you to go outside, you will be able to enjoy some stunning views from a generously sized window overlooking the ocean. There’s just one option for this type of room:

  • Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom

The Deluxe Oceanview Staterooms come with either one large porthole window or two smaller porthole windows. Each room sleeps up to three or four, with a queen bed, single sleeper sofa, and upper berth pull-down bed available.

Verandah Staterooms

If you want to spend some time gazing at the beautiful ocean views, you’ll want to consider a room with a private verandah . There are two choices on board the Disney Magic:

  • Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah
  • Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah

The Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah  has a queen bed, a single sleeper sofa, and upper berth pull-down bed, meaning it sleeps three or four people. For a larger group, you’ll want the Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah , which sleeps up to five with a queen bed, single sleeper sofa, wall pull-down bed, and upper berth pull-down bed. Both options come with their own private verandah.

Being a Princess is Exhausting – Mermaid Solid Color Tote

Being a princess is exhausting – mermaid watercolor tote, dlr castle by sunset art quality poster with hanger, issue 95 – once upon a time, concierge staterooms.

The Concierge rooms are the Disney Magic’s most luxurious accommodations. T here are four  types of concierge staterooms :

  • Concierge Royal Suite with Verandah
  • Concierge 2-Bedroom Suite with Verandah
  • Concierge 1-Bedroom Suite with Verandah
  • Concierge Family Oceanview Stateroom

The Concierge Royal Suites have art deco décor, with two bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, a verandah, a living room, a dining salon, and more. They can sleep up to seven, making this ideal for larger families or groups. The 1-Bedroom Suite has a separate bedroom, 1.5 bathrooms, a verandah, a living room, and a wet bar, and can sleep up to five. The 2-Bedroom Suite has two separate bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, a verandah, a living room, and can sleep up to seven. Finally, the Concierge Family Oceanview Stateroom sleeps up to five and also comes with a private verandah.

Dining on the Disney Magic

Just like all of Disney Cruise Line’s ships, the Disney Magic comes with a variety of different dining options. Whether you are looking for a full meal, a character dining experience, or just a quick bite to eat, you’ll find it on board the ship.

Exclusive to the Disney Magic, Rapunzel’s Royal Table is a dining experience inspired by the beloved story of Disney’s “Tangled.” This dining experience features lively entertainment that transports Disney Magic guests to the kingdom of Corona for an evening of music, themed food offerings and interactive fun. (Matt Stroshane, photographer)

Like all other Disney Cruise Line ships, the Disney Magic offers rotational dining for dinners. About the Disney Magic

On July 30, 1998, the Disney Magic made her maiden voyage as the first Disney Cruise Line ship.

Since then the Magic has been extensively renovated - or reimagined - in October of 2013.

Even though this is the oldest ship in their fleet, you would never know. Disney is constantly cleaning, maintaining and repainting to keeps things looking brand new and in top condition.

Sailing the Disney Magic is truly Magic at Sea!

How Big is the Disney Magic?

Disney Magic weighs over 84,000 tons and it is 984 feet in length. The ship is the same size as the Disney Wonder , which was introduced to the Disney Cruise Line fleet at the same time as the Magic.

CAPACITY Passengers: 2,700 Staterooms: 877 Crew (aka "Cast Members"): 950

The Crew-to-Passenger ratio equals out to one Cast Member for every 2.8 guests!

Disney Magic Cruise Ship

  • The Disney Magic is 984 feet long - that is longer than Main Street U.S.A. at Magic Kingdom
  • The interior is decorated in art nouveau style
  • Each of the 4 DCL ships has a unique statue in their atrium lobby. Disney Magic's lobby statue is Mickey Mouse

Is that included, disney magic dining, main dining, about disney magic restaurants.

Disney Magic features "Rotational Dining."

On Disney Cruise Line, you'll rotate between three main restaurants, offering you a  different dining experience every night for dinner. Your service crew will move with you.

Here are the three Disney Magic restaurants that are part of the rotational dining.

Lumiere's Restaurant on Disney Magic cruise ship

Image: Disney Cruise Line

Exclusive to the Disney Magic, Lumiere’s is a Beauty and the Beast themed dining room. Here you’ll enjoy American cuisine for breakfast and lunch and French fare for dinner. Come and, as they sing, "Be Our Guest"!

Rapunzel Royal Table Restaurant on Disney Magic Cruise Ship

Rapunzel's Royal Table

Another Disney Magic exclusive inspired by the Disney classic, Tangled . This dining experience is part of the rotational dining and features characters, live entertainment, singing and dancing. RRT is like no other! Also open during breakfast and lunch for non-rotational dining.

Disney Wonder Animator's Palate

Animator's Palate

There is a reason this is such a fan-favorite. Experience Disney animations in real life while you eat. We won't reveal too much here, but check out my Animator's Palate tips here - read tips #43-46.

Casual Dining

Disney Magic Cruise Ship Cabanas Buffet

You'll probably become very familiar with Cabanas on your cruise, because it is the main buffet restaurant. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner (for those who prefer to skip their rotational dining or are late to their Main Dining seating). So much variety here, they serve snacks, appetizers, desserts and entrees of every kind. Various selections will change from meal to meal, while others are constant fixtures on the menu. If you find a favorite dish, (Mickey Mouse pancakes anyone?) this can be comforting for finicky eaters, especially your little ones.

Disney Magic Preludes

EYE SCREAM TREATS

Every kid's dream come true: all the ice cream you can eat. And it's FREE! Hey, it's vacation, so I say go ahead and indulge your craving while on your Disney Cruise.

Along with soft-serve ice cream, you'll find plenty of toppings. My kids may have gone just  a little overboard with the all-you-can-eat (okay me too) but hey...it's vacation!

Disney Magic Frozone Smoothies

FROZONE TREATS

Disney Magic Pete's Boiler Bites

PETE'S BOILER BITES

Disney Wonder Pinocchio's Pizzeria

PINOCCHIO'S PIZZERIA

Disney Magic Beverage Station

BEVERAGE STATION

I tend to spend a lot of time visiting the Beverage Station on Deck 9.

Why? Because the drinks here are FREE. Drink options include water, soda, juices, coffee, tea, milk, fruit punch, lemonade, and hot cocoa.

The bars and lounges on board will charge you extra for sodas, but it is free here. Check out tip #48 on my Disney Cruise Tips to enjoy more free soda.

Disney Magic Room Service Menu

ROOM SERVICE

Brought to your stateroom

Disney Magic's room service menu is surprisingly large. The options are available at any time of the night or day.

To get more advice about Disney Magic room service, read tips 54-59 of my 101 Disney Cruise Tips .

Exclusive Dining

Looking for an adult only meal? Or something that will make your little one beam for days on end? The Disney Magic offers exclusive dining opportunities to fulfill those wishes.

Palo Restaurant on Disney Wonder Cruise Ship

Image: Brownie Bites

This is the Disney Magic's finest dining experience and it is available only for adults.

In our opinion, the Northern Italian menu is worth the premium fee you pay for it. When you top off the delicious kids-free meal with gorgeous seascapes, you have a brunch or dinner to remember.

Reservations are required and there's a dress code as well, please  refer to our Disney Cruise packing list for suggestions on what to wear.

Royal Court Royal Tea on Disney Wonder

Royal Court Royal Tea

Deck 3 at Lumiere's

Little princes or princesses (3 to 12) can join their favorite Disney characters for a tea party. While this tea party has an additional fee, it includes a chance to meet one-on-one with the princesses and take home a few royal gifts.

DISNEY MAGIC ENTERTAINMENT

Each night on the Disney Magic, a signature entertainment event will be hosted in the Walt Disney Theatre.

You'll be treated to performances that are legitimately Broadway-caliber. Other acts that are sometimes shown on stage include musicians, jugglers, ventriloquists, hypnotists, or comedians. Sometimes they show a feature movie – typically something Disney-owned that is new to theaters or is coming soon.

The Walt Disney Theatre is located on Deck 4 Forward.

Tangled the Musical on Disney Magic Cruise Ship

Tangled: The Musical

Tangled  is the story of  Rapunzel's fairytale. The characters from the beloved animated film are portrayed by real-life actors on stage. If you know the movie, you'll get to sing along with the familiar songs.  This show is only shown on Disney Magic.

Twice Charmed: An Original Twist on the Cinderella Story on Disney Magic Cruise Ship

Twice Charmed: an Original Twist on the Cinderella Story

This musical serves as a sequel of sorts to the classic film Cinderella .  The premise is simple: what would have happened if Cinderella had never put on that glass slipper?

The stepsisters are back with the wicked stepmother, but there's a new bad guy in the mix: an evil Fairy Godfather.

Disney Wonder: The Disney Dreams musical

Frozen Deck Party on Disney Magic Cruise Ship

Frozen Deck Party

On select 7-day cruises, you'll step into the atrium and find it has been converted into a winter wonderland, where you will meet all sorts of characters from Arendelle. This is the start of a day of Frozen-themed activities (scavenger hunt, dinner, evening show, etc).

Disney Magic: Pirate Night! See the shows and fireworks!

Pirate Night

Wear your best pirate outfit to celebrate a full day of activities , character meet and greets, and an impressive deck party. Of course, it culiminates with a bang, as Disney Magic sets off fireworks into the night sky.

Note: some sailings (like some Alaska) don't feature fireworks.

Disney Magic: Marvel Day at Sea

Marvel Day at Sea

On select 5-night cruises, Disney Magic hosts Marvel's heroes, like the Avengers and Spiderman. If your child loves Iron Man or Captain America, he or she will love meeting them in person.

Other events include a movie marathon, a costume night, and special stunt show that features fireworks and incredible stunts on the ship deck.

Christmas & Halloween Parties on Disney Magic cruise ship

Seasonal Celebrations

Character greetings.

Meet and Greet Characters on Disney Magic

Meet and Greets

One of our favorite parts of any Disney Cruise is getting to meet some of our favorite characters.

We take an autograph book ( see our packing list ) and collect as many signatures as we can.

The times and characters available to meet vary, so check the DCL app each day.

Frozen Meet and Greet on Disney Magic Cruise Ship

Free Ticketed Events

These events require tickets (they're free at online checkin):

  • Frozen Meet and Greet
  • Princess Gathering
  • Heroic Encounters
  • Star Wars Character Experience

Tickets are limited so reserve them during online checkin . If they are sold out, visit Guest Services as soon as you get on the ship; there are often tickets available there.

Disney Magic: Disney Character Breakfast

Character Breakfast

On select 7+ night cruises, you can eat breakfast with Disney and Disney Junior Characters. They go from table to table, posing for photos, giving high fives, and saying hi.

Tickets are FREE, but they are limited. Again, you'll want to jump on these during online check-in .

Funnel Vision

Funnel Vision is a giant screen that shows Disney movies while you chill on Deck 9 or swim in Goofy’s Pool.

It's a huge LED screen, totally state of the art.

Concierge Sundeck

Connected to the Concierge Lounge, you'll find a sundeck available only to Concierge level guests.

Perched above the Quiet Cove Pool, it's a quiet area for sunning and relaxing.

It offers expansive views of the ocean in virtually all directions, and if you want a soda or snack, just pop back into the Concierge Lounge.

Towels and sunscreen are provided.

OTHER ONBOARD SERVICES

Health center.

The Health Center is available when you're feeling sick, need first aid or have a medical emergency.

The clinic keeps regular daily hours to offer care for non-emergencies. If you have an emergency, the ship has a doctor and nurse on call 24/7.

Tender Lobbies

Guest services.

Got a question or request? This is your place. I have found the crew that manages Guest Services to be very responsive and caring.

They can help you make spa appointments or dining reservations, plan your vacation by explaining activities, ship amenities, and the ship schedule.

Questions with your bill are handled here. You may also request a free crib or diaper genie here. Book these when you first arrive to make sure you get one.

Port Adventures Desk

Onboard sales desk.

Plan and book future Disney Cruises. Why would you book a Disney cruise while on a Disney cruise, you ask? You’d be surprised by how many people do!

It’s all about the perks. It’s pretty much the only way to get a Disney cruise for a discounted price.

Here’s the low down:

  • 10% discount on prevailing rates on your next cruise (concierge-level excluded)
  • Stateroom credit of $100 (3-6 nights) or $200 (7-night cruises or longer)
  • Reduced Deposit on 7-night sailings or longer

You don’t have to decide on a date while on the ship. Just put a $250 deposit down as a placeholder for a future cruise and sail within the next 24 months.

An intimate piano club amid a sophisticated Art Deco theme, Keys is inspired by the lounges and watering holes found along Sunset Boulevard during the Golden Age of Hollywood. Adorned in overstuffed armchairs, large porthole windows, an illuminated bar and low lighting, the venue is a romantic setting for adults looking to escape to a relaxed and subdued environment while onboard. In keeping with the sophisticated theme, Keys features live piano music and guest vocalists nightly. A variety of talented musicians perform classics from Duke Ellington and Cole Porter to Billy Joel and Elton John. Check the Personal Navigator—the Disney Cruise Line daily newsletter detailing all there is to see and do—for specific performance times while onboard.

O'Gills Pub

O'Gills Pub is a sports bar and lounge located on Deck 3, Forward in the After Hours area aboard the Disney Magic. In the evening, the lounge is a haven for adults looking to mingle over mixed drinks or participate in more adult-oriented games and activities. Modeled after a neighborhood pub in Ireland, O'Gills Pub provides a cozy setting and friendly atmosphere during a non-stop adventure at sea. Savor a pint of your favorite beer at the dark wooden bar and share a laugh with a friend, or recline in a leather chair overlooking a large porthole window and watch the sun set with a glass of wine in hand. Offering multiple big-screen televisions that broadcast a variety of live sports-related programming—in addition to popular non-sports entertainment—O'Gills Pub is home to classic games, including checkers, chess and backgammon.

Bedecked in warm wood furnishings and comfortable furniture, Promenade Lounge offers an elegant Art Deco retreat for guests looking to relax and unwind. Large porthole windows with seaside views add to the serene atmosphere, and the venue features big-screen televisions showcasing news and sporting events throughout the day and live music in the evening hours.

Signals is an adults-only bar located on Deck 9, Midship next to the Quiet Cove Pool on the Disney Magic. Open from approximately noon to 9.00 pm daily, Signals is a cosy spot where guests 21 years of age or older can unwind with a refreshing cocktail or snack. Bedecked in colourful nautical flags, Signals features soft background music for your listening pleasure. Because it is located outside, it's a great place to catch up on your tan while enjoying a refreshing beverage.

AquaDunk is a thrilling, 3-story body slide located at the Forward Funnel on Deck 13 aboard the Disney Magic. During this watery thrill ride, plummet at high speeds when the floor beneath you opens up like a trap door and propels you through a 212-foot-long translucent tube—which curves 20 feet out over the side of the ship—to an unforgettable splashdown. Towering nearly 37 feet above the ocean and decks below, it's an exhilarating experience from countdown to splashdown! When the chance to build a new water slide for the relaunch of the Disney Magic came up, Donald Duck's crafty nephews—Huey, Dewey and Louie—decided to take part. Hoping to be inspired, they dug through some of their early design work and stumbled on a drop-out slide concept that was still "pending approval." Well, "pending approval" was good enough for the nephews, so they pushed the design through to construction, eventually giving the thrilling attraction the name AquaDunk.

Goofy's Pool

Goofy's Pool, one of 3 freshwater pools on the Disney Magic, is a pool designed for families located on Deck 9. Goof around in this pool that features an adorable portrait of Goofy on the pool floor. Featuring a maximum depth of 4 feet, Goofy's Pool lets parents and kids cool off and make new friends while onboard. The Goofy's Pool area includes an array of deck chairs, available on a first-come, first-served basis. For those looking for a quick bite, Pinocchio's Pizzeria, a Quick Service restaurant located next to the pool, serves a variety of pizzas during lunchtime and late-night hours. I wonder if they would ever consider re-running a retired show? We saw Hercules: The Muse-ical on our first two sailings and loved it!

' src=

I only saw Hercules once, but a revised Muppet show would be a great idea for an opening night variety show. It would be easy to plug in the special guests such as Knight Magic.

' src=

Remember the Magic also plays on the Wonder on some itineraries.

' src=

How often do the live show itineraries change? We are thinking of booking our second cruise on the fantasy but are hesitant only because the live show schedule appears to be the same as it was almost 2 years ago? Does it ever change? Thanks so much for your input!

They do change, but not very often. Pending any drastic shakeup your cruise will have the same shows.

' src=

We’ve cruised on the Disney Fantasy 3 times (2012 & 2014 & 2016) and have seen the same shows everytime. We are cruising on the Fantasy again in 2020 and would love to see something new but expect to see the same.

' src=

The Fantasy has the new Aladdin musical! It’s great 😀

' src=

It does change from time to time, but they add new segments and it normally takes the shows to the next level.

' src=

Do you have to reserve seats at the shows on the Dream? Is there a charge? Do you have to get there like an hour early and stand in line?

Cindy, You do not need to reserve seats or a showtime. The live shows are included in the price of the cruise. Lines do form prior to the show as seats are first come first serve and saving of seats is discouraged.

' src=

I was just on the fantasy january 25-1 and loved aladdin and wishes but I can’t find a cast list anywhere I would love to know who the actors are.

' src=

Is Walt Disney: The Dream Goes On only on longer cruises? If so which length of cruise.

' src=

Does anyone know what order the shows play in on a 4 night cruise? We’re trying to schedule Remy, but I really want to see the Villains show.

Jen, Check out a set of Personal Navigators from the Disney Dream.

' src=

The Villians show on the Dream was the BEST show we saw on our cruise! The cast member who played Hades when we were there was so amazing!

' src=

I hear that they have special shows during the Holidays. Is this true or is it just the movie selection?

They have special events in the Atrium such as King Triton’s Tree lighting .

' src=

Any idea how often they replace the shows? I have friends who were on the Wonder in 10/13 and want to do an Alaskan cruise this summer, but are afraid the shows will be exactly the same..

Mindy, the shows, as a whole, do not change that much.

' src=

Do You have an estimate of how large the total cast of a play would be?

I believe the number is about 20.

thanks. Is that per play or does the same crew work on every play?

Same cast for all the shows.

' src=

33 where on the wonder in april according to the peter cruise director

We are sailing for the 3rd time on the Disney Fantasy summer 2016. Do you think there will be any new shows by then? We saw the same ones summer 2014 that we saw summer 2012. They are great but would like to see something new.

I would not expect any new shows on the Fantasy for next summer.

' src=

I agree, it’s time for something new. We skipped all the shows this past November. 3 times on the Fantasy and no new shows. The only way to see something new is to switch ships but then the problem for me is that the the spas are outdated and I love and need the Rainforest….uggg So I am going to bite the bullet and go on the Magic next to see Tangled. Thankfully I love to hang out in Keys.

' src=

Since the ships are usually running 7 days a week, the turn around in the home port is too short to uninstall an old show and install a new one. As a result if the ship has not entered a dry dock situation since your last cruise, it is highly unlikely for the shows to have changed.

' src=

Any chance the Tangled show will ever be brought to a different ship? We are hoping to go late Spring 2017 but so far it looks like the Magic is only sailing out of San Juan! 🙁 We were hoping to do Eastern Caribbean from Port Canaveral.

It was said during the DCL Parks Blog event that they are attempting to keep things varied across the fleet rather than duplicating shows on each ship, to help keep things fresh for repeat guests.

' src=

Any chance I can find out the time and schedule of each show? so far my search turned up nothing? I need to know the times to schedule dinner on Fantasy cruise 7 night East carib.

There are two show times each night opposite Main and Late dinning times. On some sailings there are even matinee showings.

' src=

Anyone know the running time of the shows? I mean the actual start to finish each evening?

The shows vary, but they are about 45 minutes to an hour in length.

' src=

On the Dream, 3-night cruise, do you get all 3 shows? {Believe, Golden Mickey’s, Villains Tonight}

' src=

Does the Wonder ship has more than one show as well? We are currently on a waiting list for early dining and we are hoping we don’t miss the shows. We sail Friday after Thanksgiving 2016. Thank you!

Fara, there are two dinner seatings. If you have main dining your show time will be after dinner. If you have late dinner, you will go to a show then eat. You will not miss them due to the dinner seating time.

Thank you! I can stop worrying now,?

One more question (you hope). Do we have to make reservations on any particular activity like character breakfast or pictures with the different characters?

There are a few meet and greet experiences and possibly a character breakfast depending on your ship/itinerary. DCL recently added online reservations for some of these, but as of now still offer onboard reservations on embarkation day. Check your Navigator if you do not pre-book online.

Thank you!?

' src=

Scott, any thoughts on which shows will be on the 3-night Fantasy sailing 5/17/17? Has anything been published as to any show changes during the dry dock?

Mark, I would guess the 3 main shows will play; Aladdin, Wishes and Believe.

' src=

I’m so upset that they will be replacing ‘Villains Tonight’ with ‘Beauty and The Beast’. Nothing against the latter but ‘Villains Tonight’ is so good and funny! Thankfully, we’ll be going on Halloween on the High Seas this year to see it one last time. (Rather they had replaced the Golden Mickey’s, lol).

' src=

Scott, I know that Villains Tonight! has already ended but what is now showing in place of it till the new Beauty and the Beast show debuts? Haven’t seen any current Navigators. Thanks!

On the last 3-night the film, Disney’s Newsies The Broadway Musical was shown in place of Villains Tonight!

' src=

We are just trying to book a few things and want to be available for the shows. What times are the shows normally at? Is there anywhere that I can find a schedule. We are going Jan 6, 2018 on Fantasy !!

You can find links to previous Personal Navigators for your sailing on this page . Based on the latest navigators, showtimes on the Fantasy have been 6:15 and 8:30.

' src=

Hello, it’s Marcus again, I just want to say that my 2008 navigators have the show: “Remember the Magic: A Final Farewell”, and I was wondering if that show is still playing on the Magic/Wonder. Could you please help me on this one?

' src=

Are there any rumors on the dreamvine of the Wonder being pixie dusted with a new show? Dreams is already 15 years old, and the Golden Mickeys is nearly 20. My wife and I will be on the Wonder next Spring for an Alaskan cruise. When or how long in advance would they announce upcoming changes? It seems that quite a few were changed out after just 5 to 8 years.

DCL went through a period of making a unique, single franchise production for each ship. Tangled, Frozen, Beauty & the Beast, and to a lesser extent Aladdin. I recently heard some rumblings of a Toy Story something, but nothing that points directly to a stage production.

Hey Scott, if you have any connections pass on this idea to the imagineers. Replace the Dreams stage show onboard the Wonder and the Twice Charmed show on the Magic with a Star Wars and Marvel stage shows (different show on each). But let each one come with a twist where the World of Disney Magic (characters) help save the day in their respective universes. This could give a continual draw of Marvel and Star Wars fans to the cruise line beyond the special sailings, and at the same time let the fans of all three Worlds (Disney, Marvel, Star Wars) enjoy a crossover event. I love crossover tv episodes; why not stage shows.

With the extended shutdown due to Covid, are there any rumors about new stage shows, the same ones, or will they be put on hiatus like the parks? My wife and I have a sailing coming up in February, and we’re just curious as to what to expect.

' src=

There’s a show missing, I believe fully retired and only shown a few times. “When Mickey Dreams”, debuted for the EBTA in 2007 and shown on Med cruises, then again on the WBPC in 2008. Can’t find any reference to it existing outside of that.

I did find a reference in an old press release. I added a page for When Mickey Dreams .

' src=

The Golden Mickeys used to be on the Magic as well…

Stage Show Entertainment on the Disney Magic – What You Need to Know

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

From Broadway-style shows to adventurous deck parties, Disney Cruise Line offers a full itinerary of exciting entertainment for guests to enjoy on every sailing.

“As part of the Disney Cruise Line experience, our guests have told us that they love seeing beloved Disney stories come to life onstage,” said Jim Urry, vice president of entertainment for Disney Cruise Line.

On the Disney Magic, entertainment abounds with live shows, deck parties, character meet-and-greets, movies, and much more. Our favorite part of our cruise on the Disney Magic was the three Broadway-style shows. Learn more about these shows below!

1 – Twice Charmed: An Original Twist on the Cinderella Story

“Twice Charmed” immerses you in a story that begins where the original ended and features Cinderella, Prince Charming, and other favorites from the original fairy tale classic. We thoroughly enjoyed this Broadway-style show. The singing, acting, and stage magic were all top-notch. When we saw this show, we thought Prince Charming stole the show! He was the perfect prince and did a fantastic job! The whole production was everything you would expect a Disney production to be. This Broadway-style stage show is performed exclusively at the Walt Disney Theatre on the Disney Magic. If you’re sailing on the Disney Magic, don’t miss this amazing show!

2 – Tangled: The Musical

“Tangled: The Musical” is the first-ever stage adaptation of the beloved animated film. Presented exclusively aboard the Disney Magic, it’s the first-ever stage adaptation of the beloved animated film, “Tangled.” Combining a heartfelt story, an enchanting score, and lavish production numbers, the new musical showcases the thrilling adventure of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider as they face ruffians, thugs and a budding romance on an exhilarating journey of self-discovery.

Disney assembled an all-star creative team to develop this lavish production. Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken (“Tangled,” “The Little Mermaid”) and Grammy Award-winning lyricist Glenn Slater (“Tangled”) created three new songs exclusively for this show. Other top-notch theatrical talent included Tony Award-winning costume designer Paloma Young (“Peter and the Starcatcher”), master puppet designer Michael Curry (Disney’s “The Lion King” on Broadway), set designer Bradley Kaye (Disney’s “Aladdin—A Musical Spectacular”), director Gordon Greenberg and choreographer Connor Gallagher. “Tangled: The Musical” was produced by Walt Disney Imagineering Creative Entertainment.

When you learn about the talent behind the show, you understand why we think the show was terrific. The group of actors who performed (the same group as the night before in Twice Charmed), were again top-notch giving incredible performances. For us, the “Mother/Witch” was just amazing. She stole the show and was absolutely perfect in her performance.

Here are some fun facts about the show provided by Disney:

  • Rapunzel’s story begins with a magical flower, but more than 200 physical flowers have been drawn, painted, carved, sewn and otherwise “planted” in scenic elements, costumes, and even Rapunzel’s hair.
  • “Tangled: The Musical” features 15 scenes and seven locations.
  • More than 40 scenic elements bring the fairytale locales of “Tangled: The Musical” to life.
  • The 15-foot-tall tower features more than 20 glowing flowers hidden in a mural design.
  • The mural in Rapunzel’s tower set piece was designed by Claire Keane, who created the original mural design for the animated “Tangled” film.
  • Every set piece for “Tangled: The Musical” was sculpted and painted by hand.
  • Tony Award-winning costume designer Paloma Young developed 125 costumes using more than 200 different types of fabrics.
  • Rapunzel’s royal dress that appears in the show’s final scene is made of custom fabric developed especially for this show.
  • The dazzling costumes are made complete with 85 pairs of shoes and 60 wigs.
  • It takes more than 200 feet of hair to bring Rapunzel’s famous golden tresses to life on stage.

3 – Disney Dreams … An Enchanted Classic

“Disney Dreams…An Enchanted Classic,” is a signature Disney Cruise Line show that tells a bedtime story featuring Peter Pan, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Cinderella, Ariel, Timon and Pumbaa and many other popular Disney characters who together teach a young girl the power of her dreams. This Broadway-style stage show is performed exclusively at the Walt Disney Theatre on the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder.

The entertainment staff on our voyage continued to impress us; they were outstanding. At the end of the show, it was hard not to get choked up. I admit I did cry—it’s the kind of feeling you get when watching the fireworks on Main Street USA with Cinderella Castle in view. Disney just has a way of injecting magic into everything they do, and this was one of those moments. The production, singing, acting, and dancing blew us away for the third night. I can’t say enough about this team and their performances. We loved them!

A DCL primer for Disney World people

A DCL primer for Disney World people

Lots of people enjoy going to the Disney parks and want to consider branching out to new areas but aren’t sure where to start.

That’s why we’ve put together this Disney Cruise Line primer to help you get started if cruising is new to you.

When we teach people how to plan trips to Walt Disney World, we like to use a 6-step planning process to make sure all of the decisions are being made in the right order.

We’re going to adapt that for cruising in order to walk you through the basics.

In this article

Step 1: pick a cruise

Choosing travel dates for a Disney World trip is usually a matter of comparing your availability to crowd calendars or events that are scheduled, but picking a cruise includes a lot more factors that might make this step harder (though other steps – like dining – are much easier for a cruise).

Factors to consider when picking a cruise:

  • Your availability
  • Length of cruise – lots of options available from 2-15 nights in length. We recommend 4-5 nights minimum for a first cruise to give you time to learn and enjoy the ship.
  • Departure port – is the place that it’s departing easily accessible to you? If you’re a Disney World person who wants to try DCL, cruises out of Port Canaveral might be easiest to create a land/sea trip.
  • Itinerary – is the cruise stopping in places you want to visit?
  • Ship – Disney has 6 ships that vary in size, age, and amenities
  • Price – the cost of each cruise can vary wildly. Booking early is your best bet for getting the lowest price.

Use DCL’s filter tool to narrow down your options based on your criteria and/or check out the chart below that compares all of the ships.

Step 2: choose your stateroom

For Disney World trips, this step would be all about choosing your hotel and room type, but it’s about choosing your stateroom when cruising.

Unlike hotels, cruises allow you to pick your exact room so you’ll know what type of room you’re getting and where it’ll be located on the ship.

(There’s also the option to choose an unassigned room for a lower cost which allows Disney Cruise Line to assign you closer to your cruise date. These are called guarantee rooms. Get more details .)

When choosing a stateroom, you’ll want to consider these things:

  • Cost – bigger rooms cost more, interior rooms can save you money, etc.
  • Type of room – room size, bed configuration, interior/exterior, etc.
  • Location on the ship – forward (front) vs midship vs aft (back), port side (left side as you face the front of the ship) vs starboard (right side), and which deck (lower decks are often better for motion sickness, upper decks have better views)

While researching, you may want to search “[ship name] [stateroom]” for pics, videos, and reviews.

Step 3: make a daily plan

If this were Disney World, you’d be choosing which parks to visit each day of your trip. Since it’s a cruise with a preset itinerary, you’ll want to decide what activities to do each day of your cruise instead.

The tricky thing about knowing what’s happening on your cruise is that you have some parts you already know (days at sea, ports) and some you won’t easily know all the details about (when is pirate night, is there a formal night, etc.)

The schedule is available to concierge guests about 140 days before the cruise begins by emailing [email protected] .

Concierge guests will often share that schedule in cruise FB Groups. Sites sometimes have Personal Navigators (printed schedules) from recent cruises that can also give you much more detail on what’s happening each day.

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

For days at sea:

  • There will be lots of onboard activities you can do for free. You’ll be able to find the whole list in the DCL app during your cruise. We recommend hearting the things you’re interested in which will put them in your plans.
  • Activities you can pay extra to do. This can include things like mixology classes, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, spa services, etc.

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

For port days:

  • You can choose to stay on the ship. The activities above are available on port days as well if you choose to stay on the ship. For example, we always stay on the ship in Nassau, Bahamas, because it’s not a port we like and the ship is quieter on those days.
  • You can choose what to do when you get off the ship. If you get off at a port, you can choose what to do which could include just walking around, but often includes booking port adventures (excursions). Booking through DCL guarantees they’ll take care of you in the event of anything happening during your port adventure, but it also often means the activities cost more money or have more limited options. Booking on your own can give you more options at a lower cost, but if the port adventure operator doesn’t get you back in time (a rare event for a reputable company) the ship will leave without you boarding and you’ll have to figure out how to meet up with your cruise again. We highly recommend reading reviews of port adventures as the description given by the cruise line or operator doesn’t always thoroughly explain how it works or what’s included.

Themed nights during your cruise

In addition to sea and port days, you might also want to look at themed nights on your cruise.

Most or all Disney cruises have themed nights such as pirate night, Frozen night, formal night, semi-formal night, etc. You’ll likely find out the schedule for these in your cruise FB Group.

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

Participation in those is totally optional, but if you’re interested in partaking, be sure to add it to your daily plans so you can dress for the occasion.

Live productions

Every ship has a theater called Walt Disney Theater where stage productions take place a few nights during your cruise.

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

Some of these are stage versions of popular Disney movies (Tangled, Little Mermaid, Cinderella, etc.) and others are original cruise line productions (Golden Mickeys, Disney Seas the Adventure, Disney Dreams).

We highly recommend making time to see them as it’s 1 of the things that Disney Cruise Line does so well.

There will be 2 showings on the nights that the productions are running. For good seating, try to line up 20-30 minutes beforehand.

Step 4: planning dining

This step of the planning is much easier when cruising than going to Disney World since it’s mostly all planned out for you.

On Disney Cruise ships, there are usually these dining options available:

  • 1 large casual buffet location – large buffet available for breakfast and lunch
  • 3 main Table Service restaurants – themed dining rooms that you rotate through each night of your cruise, has a main dining time or late dining time option
  • Quick Service locations – a few different options, often located near the pool
  • 1 or 2 adult-exclusive restaurants – requires reservations, costs extra, has a dress code, available for brunch or dinner
  • Room service – food is included with your cruise cost, but you’ll want to tip $1-3 for a small order, $4-5 for a larger order
  • Miscellaneous areas – various lounges, coffee spots, etc., throughout the ship. Often costs extra.

All of the food listed above is included unless noted.

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

Some tips related to dining on your cruise:

  • You will rotate between the 3 main Table Service restaurants throughout your cruise, keeping the same table number and servers who rotate with you.
  • You won’t know which order you’ll be dining in them until you can connect to the ship’s wifi at the cruise terminal or on board. If, for some reason, you don’t don’t like your rotation, you can go to Guest Services on the ship to see if they can change it.
  • Your stateroom will have breakfast order door hangers (usually in the desk drawer). You can jot down your breakfast order, leave it on your door, and it’ll be delivered at the time specified. This is completely free since all room service is included. Unless you’re staying concierge, room service breakfast options are really limited. You’ll want to head to a restaurant if you want hot breakfast food.

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

  • Eating at the adult-exclusive restaurants requires a reservation. These spots can be really competitive, particularly on days at sea. The service and food are incredible, so we do highly recommend them if you want something special during your cruise.
  • The 1 large casual buffet location on each ship is often very busy and crowded, but you can often find smaller locations near the pools that are less crowded .
  • You’ll need to pick a dining time for your 3 rotational Table Service meals . Early dining is usually at 5:45 p.m., while late dining starts at 8 p.m. We’ve done both and prefer early dining because we like the flow of having dinner, going to see the ship’s evening show, and then heading for nighttime activities and bars. However, earlier dining does have more kids and may require getting back to the ship too early, depending on your port and port adventure times.

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

Step 5: booking and checking in

In this step, let’s talk about booking and check-in processes for Disney cruises because it’s often 1 of the most confusing parts of the whole process.

Now that you’ve made some decisions for your cruise, you can now book your trip.

You can do that on your own, but we highly recommend booking with Small World Vacations who can not only provide professional help but offer you onboard credit that you won’t be able to get on your own.

Once your deposit is put down, be sure to join your cruise’s FB Group which is an invaluable resource as you plan. Search “[ship name] [cruise date]” to find yours (for example “Disney Magic January 10-15 2025”).

FYI – booking for the items below opens at midnight eastern time.

Step 6: add extra magic

We always like to include this step in any trip plan because it’s a chance to customize and have fun with your plans.

For a Disney Cruise, consider some of these options:

  • Bring special outfits to wear for themed nights (as mentioned above).
  • Participate in Fish Extenders which allow you to hang something from the fish hook outside your room that other people can deposit trinkets into while you deposit gifts you’ve brought into theirs. This is usually organized in your cruise’s FB Group.
  • Decorate your door. The stateroom doors are magnetic (sometimes the walls are too) so they’re fun to decorate with magnets that are often used to hang lights, dry erase boards, and other decorative items.

disney magic cruise ship entertainment

  • Purchasing onboard gifts. This is a fun way to have your stateroom decorated when you arrive or have gifts delivered during your cruise. Many onboard gifts are exclusive to each ship.
  • Get a free call from a character. Pre-recorded phone calls from Disney characters wishing you well on your sailing are a fun way to get the entire travel group excited about an upcoming Disney cruise. After you’ve booked your cruise, visit  My Reservations  under  My Disney Cruise  and select “Request Call” beside the Free Character Call header. This link will take you to a site where you can choose a Disney character, enter your phone number, schedule a call time, and provide additional information for your Character Call.
