Handlebar and Lowered Foot Pegs Kit

WARNING: This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm.

This kit is for those of you looking for a bit more leg and arm room in the DR cockpit. Included are ProCycle Low Foot Pegs and our oversize bars.

  • ProCycle Low Pegs will drop your pegs by 1-3/4" and include wider MX style pegs that are much more comfortable when standing.
  • These are not only taller bars, but 1-1/8" at the clamp area for additional strength. They taper down to 7/8" on the ends so all the stock controls fit. Silver in color.
  • 1 1/8" Warp 9 clamps that raise the handlebar 1".
  • A new billet aluminum throttle tube is included.

Handlebar, Oversized Kit

dr 650 cruise control

Here is a complete kit to install oversized tapered 1-1/8" handlebars on your DR650. Warp9 handlebar clamps bolt to your stock triple clamp adding an additional 1" to the height.

Alloy oversize bars offer more durability and eliminate the crossbar which opens up your dash area for more goodies. Silver in color.

Handlebars, 1 1/8" Tapered

dr 650 cruise control

Comfortable Oversize (or Fat Bar) Handlebars.

  • Silver in color.
  • Constructed of high-quality 7065-T6 aluminum
  • Lighter and stronger than regular bars
  • No-crossbrace allows flex to reduce shock and rider fatigue
  • Oversize 1-1/8" diameter base reduces to 7/8" to allow standard-size controls/grips
  • Etched alignment marks for fast and accurate positioning
  • Flex Series pad included
  • Works with stock controls and cables.

For bikes with factory 7/8" handlebars these will require the use of a 7/8 to 1-1/8  adapter (sold separate).

Handlebars, ADV ProTaper EVO

dr 650 cruise control

ProTaper's ADV handlebars give you a bar taller than most with extra space on the control portion of the bar. These bars provide an additional 20mm of space next to where your levers and throttle are located for your GPS, phone cradle, auxiliary switches, etc . They come in Adventure (which is taller than stock) and Adventure High (which is even taller).

These  are oversize bars, which means they are are 1 1/8", not the smaller 7/8" diameter. Therefore some bikes will require a adapter and there are several available to select from.

Using the same manufacturing techniques and materials as ProTaper’s industry-changing 1⅛" motocross handlebar, the EVO Adventure is specifically designed to provide adventure/touring riders with the increased comfort and control they need. With over 8" of straight section in the control areas, mounting vital components is made easier than ever. With its premium 7000 series aluminum alloy construction and computer-profiled four millimeter-thick wall design, the EVO Adventure Handlebar is up to 25% lighter and 45% stronger than competing handlebars.

  • 1⅛" tubing at the clamping area
  • Exclusive 4 mm-thick 7000 series aluminum alloy for superior tensile and yield strengths
  • Optimum balance between fatigue life, impact strength, and impact-absorbing flex
  • High-tech shot peened, stress-relieved, and anodized finish for unmatched durability
  • Independent lab tests show that the EVO Handlebar leads the market in fatigue life
  • Epoxy inner coating resists corrosion
  • Chemically applied cut lines and alignment grid are scratch- and peel-resistant
  • Plastic bar end plugs keep the elements out and provide a stronger base for grip ends
  • Weighs only 1.55-1.7 lbs. (720-780 grams), depending on bend

Handlebars, SE ATV High ProTaper

dr 650 cruise control

These 7/8" bars fit in the stock clamps and raise your grips a couple inches. They look great too!

ProCycle Exclusive

Handlebar Riser Kit

Made in USA

Mount these polished billet aluminum spacers under your handlebar clamps to raise your handlebars 1 inch. High quality longer bolts are included.

Handlebar Riser, 2" Powermadd

dr 650 cruise control

  • 4.75" wide,
  • Raises handlebars 2 inches and allows fore/aft position adjustment
  • Provides dual pivot points for optimal bar positioning
  • One piece design is made from solid aluminum for superior strength
  • Available for 7/8" - 7/8" or 7/8" - 1 1/8" bars

Requires 7/8" factory bar clamps on bike

Handlebar Riser, 2" ROX Anti-Vibration

dr 650 cruise control

These versatile Risers allow you to clamp a 7/8" diameter handlebar or you can remove the 7/8" reducers and then clamp an 1- 1/8" aluminum "fatbar". If you are thinking of going to a fatbar after you bend your stock set or just want the versatility and option to run any bar, this is the riser to go with. Reducers lock into risers to insure no slippage between components.

These risers use 8mm bolts. Always check and confirm that your bike has adequate cable and brake line length before installing any handlebar risers.

Anti-Vibration Risers may interfere with aftermarket large capacity fuel tanks, and some steering stem clamp configurations (in these cases we recommend using standard pivoting risers).

Handlebar Riser, Rox Pro-Offset Elite Block

dr 650 cruise control

This unique design from Rox allows you to move your bars either closer (1" up and back) or further away (1" forward and 1-1/4" up) depending on rider preference. These risers have an oblong mounting hole so that they will fit virtually any triple clamp with 8mm bolts. A set of reducers lock into the risers ensuring no slippage whether you have a 7/8" or 1-1/8" bars.

Because these are offset there may be limited clearance between the gas tank and the risers when the bars are fully turned on some models, mainly when mounted to move the bars closer.

Handlebar Riser, Solid Mount Adapter

dr 650 cruise control

  • Adapt 7/8" bar mounts to accept oversized 1-1/8" handlebars
  • An economical alternative to replacing expensive top triple clamps
  • Include mounting bolts.
  • Raises handlebar 20mm.
  • Polished aluminum

Handlebar Riser, Warp 9 Racing

dr 650 cruise control

Handlebar mounts that replace your stock clamps.

These raise your handlebars 1 inch.

Choose 7/8" for standard handlebars or 1-1/8" to allow installation of your choice of oversize/ tapered handlebars.

Steering Stabilizer, GPR V5

dr 650 cruise control

The GPR V5 stabilizer is designed to be "tucked" away under the bars and is still easily adjustable without raising the handle bars too high.

  • Kit includes damper, bolt on post mount, below the bar mounting system, and complete instructions.
  • Only raises bars about 1/2".

Will only work with Fat Bar style (1 1/8" clamp area) handlebars and stock triple clamp.

dr 650 cruise control

ProTaper Pillow Top Grip with 3-D (Tri-Density) Technology.  Try the grip with the technical advantage of three dedicated rubber compounds.

The difference between the original Pillow Top and the Pillow Top Lite is the overall diameter of the grip surface. The Lite offers a smaller diameter so the grips don't feel as large reducing fatigue in your hands while riding.

Grips, Heated Full Diamond Koso

dr 650 cruise control

ProCycle Approved

Grips, Heated Koso Apollo

dr 650 cruise control

The Apollo Heated Grips are designed with an integrated adjustable thumb switch, which allows them to easily fit on any kind of motorcycles on the market. The integrated thumb switch gives control to the rider to adjust the temperature level while keeping hands on the bar for a safer ride.

Its wide temperature setting range will keep the rider comfortable under the cold riding conditions.

The 5 color LED display will enhance the visual look of the heated grips and will allow the rider to quickly know at which heat level the grips are set.

This system will also detect if the battery voltage is too low and will automatically shut down the heated grips in order to make sure the rider have enough power to start the engine or use the motorcycle.

Specifications:

  • Integrated thumb switch designed for easy installation and control.
  • “Plug & Play” wiring connections to shorten the installation time.
  • Wide temperature settings for various weather conditions.
  • Low Battery Warning protection to ensure the motorcycle has enough power to start.
  • 5 color LED Indicators for the rider to quickly know in which heat level the grips are set.

Grips, Motion Pro RoadControl

dr 650 cruise control

  • Ergonomically designed
  • Medium-density Thermoplastic Rubber (TPR) compound provides excellent feedback and control, without sacrificing durability
  • Full diamond pattern for an unparalleled feel in both wet and dry conditions
  • Inner diameter optimized to keep grips secure in any conditions
  • 115mm overall length; fit 7/8" bars and throttle sleeves

Grips, ProGrip 714 Rally

dr 650 cruise control

These grips feature a thicker design that dampens vibration. The soft shoulder allows ease of movement. Three wire-tie grooves are molded into the grip to make securing them a breeze. We think they are great!

Grips, Renthal Single-Compound

dr 650 cruise control

Each pattern is available in three advanced synthetic rubber compounds. This means you can have the optimum combination of strength, tackiness and shock absorption to suit every riding condition and individual style. Soft grip is extremely soft, giving you a very comfortable ride, great feel and reduces the chance of blisters; however, because the grip is so soft, it wears quickly. Medium is a compromise between firm and soft. Firm grip has the same feel as a stock grip, it is very strong and has very good resistance to tearing and abrasion. Half Waffle has waffle pattern in finger area for traction and diamond pattern on palm side to reduce blisters. Full Waffle: designed after the CR Honda® grip.

Grips, Vans Cult - ODI

dr 650 cruise control

  • Feature the classic Vans waffle sole pattern with a subtle domed center section for improved ergonomics and vibration dampening
  • 125mm in length
  • Fit 7/8" bars

Cruise Control, Go Cruise

dr 650 cruise control

The Go Cruise cruise control mounts over the throttle grip and rests on the brake lever to hold your throttle open, allowing you to stretch and rest your hand on long rides. Installs and removes in seconds with no tools. You can roll off the throttle manually to disengage the Go Cruise.

ProCycle has developed this kit that includes a Vista-Cruise throttle lock, a specially modified alloy throttle tube and an anchor plate that attaches to your throttle housing. Just flip the thumb lever down to apply enough friction to hold the throttle in place. Use the supplied longer screw to attach the anchor plate to your lower throttle housing bolt hole. Also included is a tension adjustment tool that you can keep on your key ring. Keep the applied tension lightly adjusted so it's easy to roll the throttle off.

Fits bikes with dual cable throttle housings.

dr 650 cruise control

Suzuki makes it almost impossible to replace your stock grips. It's much easier with a new throttle tube. Removable end cap for bikes with hand guards.

McCruise Cruise Control Installed

  • Add to quote

Today I went for the first long ride after installing a McCruise cruise control system on my 2019 V-Strom 650XT Touring. It worked great and performed just like the cruise control I have on my Goldwing. It wasn't cheap at about $900 with shipping, but it was reasonably easy to install using McCruise's very detailed instructions. Best accessory I've added to the bike. I've got another McCruise kit waiting for me to install it on my 2017 Honda Africa Twin. That install looks to be a little more involved than what it was on the V-Strom. https://www.mccruise.com/collections/suzuki/products/suzuki-dl650-v-strom-third-generation-from-2017-new-product-featuring-our-compact-electric-servo I had them send their new Slimline switch, which I think looks a bit better than the rectangular one pictured in the above link. https://www.mccruise.com/collections/accessories-tools/products/mccruise-slimline-switch

dr 650 cruise control

I think McCruise is the only way to go now for the '17 and up bikes. Looks like Rostra is out since no one has figured out how to get it to work on the newer stroms.

I installed the Rostra on my 2017 Wee and overall it works OK. I could have sworn I posted on the site about it, but I can't seem to find it. I will say that I'm coming from using the cruise on my Cavalcade, so the bar was way high. Overall it's fine, my couple of nits are that under say 50 mph, it hunts, a lot. Not a real concern since I use it mainly on highways where speeds are 65+. Since the throttle cable is push/pull, the throttle on the handlebar twists as the throttle is adjusted. A little annoying, but I'll live with it for the $700 difference in price.

dr 650 cruise control

I installed it on my 2014 V2 and it is really a wrist saver. I'm not as young as I used to be and after a while on the road my right hand starts feeling tingly and numb. I live in California and although some of the roads like I-5 are flat, they aren't THAT flat and a throttle lock just wouldn't cut it. The McCruise installation kit and manual made the installation very straight forward (I won't say easy, though). And I love the looks I get from other bikers when I wave with my right hand. Cheers

I have had zero problems with the unit on my 17' 650, including 60 miles of drenching rain in Glacier this summer. Excellent product 👌

Cruise Control options

  • Add to quote

What are the options for Cruise control? I saw this one at twistedthrottle.com but it is $125. I want to basically reduce wrist/hand fatigue. http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/4761/202/

dr 650 cruise control

there are several throttle lock options Kaoko, Throttlemeister, NEP, Vista but you can get REAL cruise control for the same money or less than kaoko or Throttlemeister, with the caveat that installation is a bit more technical Audiovox CS100 universal cruise control can be fitted as well as Rostra Electronic Cruise control both are common add ons for V-stroms including the 650, no reason you couldn't install it on a SV

dr 650 cruise control

I think a "cruise control" or something that actually locks your throttle open on a bike a is a bad idea when it comes to safety on a motorcycle. Some might say "well all cars have cruise control" but the difference is that as soon as you tap the brakes in you car the cruise turns off. Most aftermarket motorcycle cruise controls don't work this way and I can envision horrible consequences to a locked throttle in a panic situation. If hand , wrist and forearm fatigue is your problem, consider these 3 alternatives... 1. Get some weights or hit the gym and work on your hand and forearm muscles. 2. Do the R6 throttle tube mod. (search the forum for info) This mode converts your throttle to a 1/5th tun throttle instead of the 1/4th turn stock which means you don't have to twist as far to go from closed to open throttle. 3. 92westshady said: I think a "cruise control" or something that actually locks your throttle open on a bike a is a bad idea when it comes to safety on a motorcycle. 3. Wow, this looks really complicated! I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has done this mod on a SV650SF.

There is a guy I ride with who has the throtlemiester. It is really cool. When u lock the throttle down, obviously it stays at that throttle imput. U can still roll the throttle on further, or less though with little force so safety isn't too much of an issue. It'll stay where ever u put it. It's basicaly a bar end with some sort of spring tension. When u twist the bar end it sinches down on the throttle tube. Twist back and the tension is off allowing the throttle spring to regain control. The bar ends look cool too. I want one for droning.

dr 650 cruise control

I'm a big fan of the Vista Cruise throttle lock. When you adjust the tension properly, rolling the throttle open or closed is easy; It just won't close by itself. The only downside is that you have to carefully modify your throttle tube and trim down your grip for it all to work. Once you get it set up properly, it flicks on and off easily, and really saves your hand/wrist on long rides.

I don't think i'd ever get any use out of a cruise control device. I can't ever use the cruise contol on my car for more then a few minutes at a time before some a whole decides to get in my lane going 20mph slower then me.

It's more for long-distance trips, or commutes where there is absolutely nothing.

dr 650 cruise control

Not sure how similar the wiring is but the DL guys, both 1000 and 650 (V-Strom and Wee-Strom) install the Rostra units with great success. They have switch/relays that cut off the control when either clutch or brake levers are pulled and tap the "R" resume button and it picks up right where it left off just like an automotive install. Because it's an automotive unit. I was about to post a question here as to whether anyone has done it but after a search it appears not. I've used one on my neighbors DL1000 and I know that it works, just wasn't sure how similar the wiring was to facilitate an SV install. Any comments?

dr 650 cruise control

My bike had a mechanical cruise control on it from the PO when I bought it. Without engaging it, it managed to hold my throttle open for me while I was going into a turn. If it was on an open road maybe I could have responded in time but since it was in my development (with people watching) the turns are too tight to complete at that speed. Atleast I have my inevitable crash under my belt but I wont be using a cruise control anymore.

Just read one install for the Vista and came across this gem: "This leaves me free to release the grip with my right hand and adjust the volume on my stereo, get a stick of gum out, fix my glasses, wipe a bug off my forhead or do anything that requires my right hand to do (I'm right handed and my left hand is "out to lunch" most of the time)."

Suzuki Motorcycles - ATLAS Throttle Lock

Top Kit vs. Bottom Kit

dr 650 cruise control

You'll want a Top Kit if:

There is less than 1.5 inches (38mm) of clearance between the tank and the throttle housing at full right turn.

There's a heated grip wire that comes out of the bottom half of your rubber grip flange.

dr 650 cruise control

You'll want a Bottom Kit if:

There's a heated grip wire that comes out the top half of your rubber grip flange.

There are no other interferences. The majority of motorcycles will be able to use the Bottom Kit.

How to Determine Fitment

Will it fit your motorcycle.

Video Thumbnail

Steps to determine fitment

Step 1: Check for adequate spacing for the ATLAS between the throttle housing and the grip flange.

All you need is a gap of 2.5 mm or greater between the grip and the throttle housing. That's roughly 3 thick bank cards wide. If you need more space than this, you can most likely pull back your grip flange to gain the room needed. Please play the video under the section " Will it for your motorcycle " and scroll to 33 seconds. This will show you how to pull the grip flange back.

Step 2: Use our ' Make, Model and Year ' search tool to locate your motorcycle. The search tool will show you exactly which unit to purchase. If you can't find your motorcycle, please click the Contact Us button below. We are happy to help you make this decision.

If you can't find your model and you know which kit you need, select 'Other' in the 'Model' section to gain access to all kits.

30 Day Money Back Guarantee

Find your model, model specific notes, model specific videos, included with the kit.

Your kit comes with everything you need to mount the ATLAS on many different motorcycles.

Customer Reviews

Came quickly all the way to Iceland, quick and easy to put on the bike

I’ve installed an Atlas throttle lock on my 2022 Suzuki V Strom 650 and am very happy with how it works. It’s very easy to use and installed without much trouble. The company was very responsive to questions I had on installation. I would recommend this product.

Cleverly designed, well made and easy to fit solution for resting your throttle hand. I like that it is interchangeable between bikes and that spare components are available. Not cheap but worth the money.

I recently installed the Atlas Throttle Lock on my bike. I was impressed with the quality and looks of this lock. The closest thing to a cruise control that I have seen on the market. Also, the customer service is first rate and I recommend this item.

I didn’t really have a need for it but I wanted the option so I ordered it on a whim. The installation was very easy, the operation of it is as simple as it can get and it works perfect.

Product quality was excellent—metal heavy duty—not cheap feeling at all. The machining is precise. I like that the friction pads are easily replaced—it also speaks to the fact that the company expects the rest of their product to last. I wish there were half-way sizes included in the kit. I bought and installed on my C90 Boulevard (1500cc). The lock pad does not grip well if you try to use it in serious rain (dampness was no problem), but it will hold if you set it before the rain and you are planning to ride through. At first this kind of bugged me but I found myself not wanting to lock the throttle during a heavy rainstorm anyway so I think this might actually be a plus compared to other systems.

Great product overall. I’ve only managed about 200 miles this spring, but I will recommend it to friends who want to give their wrists a little break this summer.

Very happy 😊

Should have asked you to help install. Made it fit and it performs as advertised. Smiles on long straight aways and a little effort on uneven routes, but expected. It was worth the price. Thanks 🙏.

Great product with new design. Good people and.family to work with.

Handle Bars [ ]

The DR650SE comes with steel cross bar type 7/8" handle bars that are painted black and seem to be made of the cheapest steel known to man. The simplest tip over can result in bent bars. Very popular mods are replacing the stock 7/8" bars with aluminum bars having a sweep back and height to match the riders preferences, installing bar risers, replacing the stock bars with tapered type MX bars using a set of 7/8" to 1-1/8" handlebar clamp adapters in the stock rubber mount clamps and replacing the stock rubber mount clamps with 1-1/8" bar rubber mount clamps.

  • SW-MOTECH Handlebar Risers - 20mm, 25mm, 30mm or 50mm.

Hand Guards and Bark Busters [ ]

The stock DR650SE came with lever bracket mounted plastic hand guards. They provide some protection from wind, small stones and very light brush... but that's about it. If you want grip protection, better hand protection through larger plastic covers or any kind of serious hand protection you need to add a set of bark busters that attach to the end of the handlebars and clamp to the main bar towards the triple clamp. The aluminum bar type are generally the strongest but even the plastic ones are far superior to the unsupported stock guards.

Electronic cruise control

dr 650 cruise control

Has anyone used any electronic cruise controls on the V or heard of anyone using them? Just from browsing around for a bit I found a couple. One not made for bikes but has been used for them at about $300 with all the stuff, and another for probably over $1000 after shipping from Australia. The one from Australia says it's for 2009 and up, any ideas why it wouldn't work on a 2008? Thoughts on e-cruise in general? http://www.murphskits.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=369 http://www.mccruise.com/collections/kawasaki/products/23

$20 does the job well! I have these on my two bikes... works well for me. http://www.webbikeworld.com/t2/go-cruise-throttle-control/

dr 650 cruise control

I use these http://www.amazon.com/MOTORCYCLE-VISTA-CRUISE-CONTROL-UNIVERSAL/dp/B002EYZZSC on my Vs - not a cruise control, just a throttle-lock which takes the 'pressure' off my throttle hand. Love them...!

dr 650 cruise control

Haven't installed them on a Versys - but have on two VTX1300's and a FJR1300. The installation is basically the same. Find a good place to mount the cruise unit, make a small vacuum chamber and get some vacuum line. Find the tach wire, etc. Do a Google search for "Rostra cruise install" or "Audiovox CC-100 cruise install" and see what you come up with. Page down thru all of the first page advertising boat cruises to exotic locations. lol It won't be for the Versys, but you can adapt much of that information relatively easily. Rosta is now marketing what used to be the Audiovox electronic cruise.

dr 650 cruise control

I have the throttle lock, there was a Vista Cruise , that is now disconntinued, a few early on this forum installed them, need to dig to find them. There was considerable work involved, including installing a vacuum canister. To be honest, I use cruise control all the time in the car on long trips, on the bike it is rare that I am going at one fixed speed, due to traffic, road conditions etc. The only place I could see using it would be going on the TransCanada in Manitoba. Throttle lock is a single right thumb to lock or release, I think I paid $50 , 5 years ago, still works the same as 5 years ago.

I already have a Vista Cruise throttle lock on mine. I was meaning literal cruise control. I have seen the Rostra cc and have emailed an Australian company that has one that will work on a 2009 but will not say yes or no for a 2008 as they haven't looked at one. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the year that things changed was 2010 right? I emailed them, MC Cruise and they sent the instal manuals for me to look at. Only thing bad about that system is it's almost $1000USD, and has to be shipped from there. While I have seen that the Rostra will work on the Concours but it is not recommended for motorcycles. I like the MC Cruise setup because it's a complete kit and just a matter of plugging things in and mounting them right.

That's the liability disclaimer. "Not for motorcycle use". Over ten years ago, we started putting those Audiovox CC-100 units on motorcycles. Anytime we called tech support and asked a question, they nearly hung up on us when we told them that the target vehicle was a motorcycle. They were marketed as "Universal Cruise Control" for automobiles and (at one time) were great sellers. Times change. I bought ten of those units at the local auto parts store for $30 each, sitting in the "Clearance" bin. So, electronic cruise could be had for about $40 (total) and a few hours of labor. Once people started putting them on motorcycles and demand increased, the price jumped to around $120. Audiovox stopped selling that unit, but (apparently) the manufacturer found another buyer in Rostra. They're selling virtually the same unit as the one that Audiovox was marketing. Not sure, but I think they're made in the same factory. They are no more or no less applicable to motorcycles than any other electronic cruise control

dr 650 cruise control

How can you have electronic cruise control on a motorcycle without a "throttle by wire" system?

The cable for the cruise control attaches to the same place that the throttle cable does.

dr 650 cruise control

I have a Rostra electronic cruise control sitting in a box waiting for the next time I strip the Concours for valve check and service. Good reviews and no vacuum leaks to worry about.

dr 650 cruise control

my road glide has cruise and its throttle cable system. I need one on my versys too. going to get one and install when I get my new shop opened up.

Cruise control for 650

For what it is worth, there may soon be a real cruise control available. The note below is from Tony in response to my inquiry: Docta, That is good timing. Hi everyone, Well - the Suzuki Burgman AN650 has forced us to go back to the drawing board in almost every way possible in order to fit cruise control on the bike 'affordably'. Nonetheless we have succeeded on the prototype and expect to have a product available within a couple of weeks for sale. Orders are being taken now. About the only downside to the installation is the fact that we have had to install two core components - the actuator and the computer - in the glove box - the lockable storage area under the handlebars. There is still space available - but not for large objects. Still, you still have ALL the under seat storage available. The only connection here is to the earth on the battery. The core reason it was so difficult to do is that the opening throttle cable on the throttle body is TOTALLY INACCESSIBLE without totally stripping the fairing off the bike. This was an unacceptable option for us as it would make installation too difficult. Consequently we thought laterally and now employ our cable interface unit (CIU) at the opposite end of the throttle cable. Quite a feat and a totally new innovation. The vacuum levels available also presented some significant problems but we have overcome them without impacting adversely on the operation of the bike in any way. We will have ballpark pricing within a couple of days. I think you could expect a trained mechanic to install the kit in about 3-4 hours first time. After doing a few, I suspect it might come down to around two hours. We are currently debating whether to put a universal loom in the kit for the installer to cut and terminate, or whether customers would like the option of a model-specific, plug and play wiring loom. This will add dollars, but also make it substantially quicker to fit the kit. Note that only five plastic panels need to be removed from the bike to effect the installation - and they are all easy to remove: 1. the two parts of the handlebar cover; 2. the maintenance cover; 3. the dashboard with the two small glove boxes in it (front panle); and 4. the panel surrounding the radiator (lower leg shield) - and it is possible to do it without taking this off. When you know how, the panel removal job takes less than 15 minutes and we tell you how in the instructions. The only parts of the cruise which are visible after installation are the switch - which looks good - and the speed sensor which will have a new stainless steel bracket to make it inconspicuous and attractive. I have included photos attahced to this email. The speed sensor bracket in the photos is from a Kawasaki GTR1000 Concour and will be replaced by a specially designed one on the production kits. That's it for now. If you are serious about buying I suggest you order early - there is a lot of demand for these units and summer is approaching fast for those in the northern hemisphere. I am guessing the kit will be around $710AUD plus freight [$510USD retail excluding delivery, plus taxes and duty where applicable (none in the USA)], but will confirm the price as soon as we can calculate it. dr 650 cruise control

Is it just me or does that seem like a very high price for a cruise unit?

I think you can buy hundreds of Caterpiller O-rings for that kind of money.

I was comparing prices of the Audiovox unit with installation for closer to $300 from Joe Wolfe. See : http://burgmanusa.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=16049

dr 650 cruise control

I don't know Bill. It is a high tech solution and a real cruise control. I remember there was one that could be bought for the Kawi Concours, and it was also very pricey. They are looking at a very limited market. The average Burgman owner is going to settle for something between the $3 o-ring and the $125 Throttlemeister (simple throttle locks). Even if they could get the price down to $400, they wouldn't sell a whole lot of them. So they have to make each sale count from a profit perspective. They also have to consider product liability. You can almost guarantee that somebody is going to crash, blame the cruise control, and sue them. They have to cover for potential litigation costs or liability insurance if they can get it. Just my thoughts....

Perhaps the money conversion was wrong. Either way, I don't need one. I'm not using the cat o-ring, but rather a couple of rubber washers between the weight and the throttle grip. They keep the throttle where I put it, but let me move it easily. As for a real cruise control that would hold the bike at a set speed no matter what the road, slope, and wind conditions did, can anyone think of a cheaper way? You've got at least two problems to solve. The device has to "know" what speed you've set it to, and know if the bike has varied from that speed. Second, the device has to be able to control the throttle, giving it more if the speed goes down and giving it less if the speed creeps up. Perhaps some weight hanging pendulum-like below the throttle? If the bike slows down, the weight swings forward which rotate the throttle a little giving it more gas. If the bike surges forward a bit, the weight swings back, easing off the throttle. Of course this all fails when you turn the handlebars. But it's a seed for an idea. If you can't turn the throttle handle directly, then you have to access the cable somewhere down the line. As those folks in Australia mention, it's hard to gain access to. Another solution might be to use something like a bike computer. My $10 Schwinn device uses a sensor to count wheel revolutions. Interface that with a servo that can control the throttle cable and all that will be left to design is the on/off switch. Of course any good cruise control will need to allow you to accelerate to pass, then return to the set speed. It should also turn itself OFF when you brake. When OFF it must completely release control of the throttle cable. OK, I've thought it out. Pay ME $700 and I'll make you one, so long as you can also get 99 of your friends to pay $700 for one too.

I am very happy with my Vista cruise, maybe for around $250 or so I would take another look at this unit but not for $500.

dr 650 cruise control

For what it's worth, $500-$600 is all relative. It depends how much it would be used. Some people spend up to 1,000 for GPS & Audio, which personaly I think is way too much. I would consider cruse control for $500 before I spend $1,000 for speakers, audio and GPS. I would use cruse control more often that the other options. My 2-cents

dr 650 cruise control

I don't know what kind of cruise control is now in the Photo Gallery, but it looks similar to what was described above. It has a cutout in the lockable glove box on the right side - into the right upper glove box - for the vacuum canister. The control module sits in the middle of the lockable glove box. Seems a better place for the comp module would be in the upper glove box or in the trunk. Heck, why couldn't the whole thing be in the trunk? Or.. wherever you want to put it based on preference.

dr 650 cruise control

i have the mccruise unit on my 08..it works flawlessly, same as on a car...period..lot of built in safety, too..

Outside Lands 2024: A Traveler’s Guide

Discover bay area (newark, ca).

If the City by the Bay is beckoning you, you're not alone. Home of beautiful bridges, great food and plenty of recreation, San Francisco has enchanted visitors and locals alike since the Gold Rush days. And the best way to see this charming metropolis and its surrounding areas is in one of our San Francisco RV rentals from Cruise America. Conveniently located in Newark, our Bay Area RV rental center makes it easy to travel all over Northern California.

There are so many things to do in San Francisco, it would be hard to list more than just a fraction of them. Visitors would not want to miss a stroll along Fisherman's Wharf, taking in the smells of fresh seafood and sourdough bread. Make sure to visit Pier 39 to enjoy the shops and eateries, and to see the congregation of sea lions that call the K-Dock their home. Don't miss a visit to the birthplace of America's counter-culture, the Haight-Ashbury district. Hop on a historic trolley to get from place to place, and experience this magnificent means of transportation like they did in the days of old. Visit the fire hose nozzle-shaped iconic Coit Tower on Telegraph Hill. Become wiser in a scientific way at the Exploratorium in the Palace of Fine Arts in the Presidio. Visit the Golden Gate Park, and get a magnificent view of the bridge. While in the park, don't miss the Conservatory of Flowers and the carousel on Kear Drive. You can even visit a herd of bison at Bison Paddock. Find the freshest produce and great eats at the farmers market at the Ferry Building on the Embarcadero. If the season is right, take in a game at AT&T Park.

Once you've seen the sights of San Francisco and it's time to hit the road for some day tripping, there are several options. Here's an idea:

For a trip that will amaze you beyond imagination, visit the giant beauty of California's famous Yosemite National Park. There you will see the splendor of the magnificent giant sequoias. You will be spellbound by the tranquility in this forest of enormity. Stop at the "Fallen Giant" and walk through the "Tunnel Tree" to give you an idea of just how big these redwood miracles are. Stop at Inspiration Point and get an amazing bird's eye view of the entire valley, and gaze on the tallest waterfall in the nation, Yosemite Falls. Enjoy a picnic on the banks of the gorgeous Merced River. You can rent bicycles and enjoy the flat bike paths, or swim in one of the refreshing river pools in the summertime. You are likely to see a variety of wildlife while you're there. There are restaurants, museums and the Ansel Adams Gallery. There is virtually something for every member of your travel party. In addition, there are several quality RV parks in the Yosemite area. To get to Yosemite National Park from San Francisco, take I-580 E for approximately 164 miles. It's a three and a half hour trip, but well worth it. Besides, in your rental RV from Cruise America, the journey is half the fun!

From Napa and Sonoma wine country, to Marin County, to the beaches of Half Moon Bay, Cruise America can take you there in style and comfort. Choose from small, medium and large class C RVs - all in great condition and ready to take you on the California RV vacation of a lifetime. Cruise America offers RV rentals in 94560, 94803, 95407, 95758 and more. Book your RV rental in California today. 4. Throttle Lock/Cruise Control for DR650 : r/Dualsport

Been looking up some throttle lock/cruise control type options for my DR650 for trips in the future and the two i seem to have narrowed to are the Atlas throttle lock and the Kaoko throttle lock. Does anyone have experience with either of these and could tell me some personal pros/cons from them. Thanks. Forget locks. They always have issues.

  5. Cruise Control/Throttle Lock

The folks at Kaoko and Twisted Throttle helped me come up with a combination that works for a DR650 with factory hand guards and w/o heated grips. I ordered a VS650W and also purchased a #100 thrust washer which I used in plase of the #50 washer that comes with the VS650W (V-Strom 650 kit) kit. Works swell.

  6. Cruise Control

"Cruise control" is a bit misleading. Cruise control modulates the throttle to maintain a selected speed. A "throttle lock" locks or holds the throttle in a static position where the bike will speed up or slow down depending on elevation changes in the road surface.
