Please share this article if you think it's awesome!
Hay Dairies Goat Farm is the only goat farm in Singapore. The farm started out in 1988 with just 48 goats. Today, it has over 1000 goats.
I’ve visited Hay Dairies Goat Farm a couple of time, and I’m always excited every time I visit. The goats are truly cute and funny, they bring so much joy to everyone, from kids, adults to seniors.
If you’re looking for unique farm activities in Singapore, Hay Dairies is a must-visit farm.
In this article, I’ll share what you need to know before visiting Hay Dairies Goat Farm.
Looking for ideas on what to do in Singapore? Here’s my guide on the best things to do in Singapore .

Hay Dairies Opening Hours
Hay Dairies Goat Farm is open from 9am to 4pm, Wednesday to Monday (closed on Tuesdays) .
Goat milking is conducted from 9am to 10.30am, so try to be there in the morning.
How to get to Hay Dairies Goat Farm
Hay Dairies Goat Farm is currently located at 3 Lim Chu Kang Lane 4, Singapore 718859 ( location on map ). However, it will be moving to a new place in 250 Neo Tiew Crescent, Singapore 719866 in Mid 2023.
If you’re taking public transport, I recommend visiting the farm on weekends because there is a shuttle bus that brings visitors from Kranji MRT to Kranji Countryside. Here’s the latest timetable . Do try to be at the pick-up point early, in case the bus arrives earlier than the schedule and leaves early too.
Technically, there is a public bus that goes to Hay Dairies Goat Farm (Bus 975 from Choa Chu Kang). However, I’d advise against taking this bus because it is too time-consuming.
Things to do at Hay Dairies Goat Farm
1. watch goats milking.
If you’d like to witness goats milking process too, take note that milking is only done in the morning, approximately from 9am to 10.30am . Also, take note that they are closed on Tuesdays .
It’s such an interesting experience to witness milking process. They use a mechanical pump to suck the milk, then channel the milk through pipes to a huge collection tank. The goat milk from collection tank will be pasteurized before packaging it into bottles for sale.
On the same day of our visit, there was a tour group of school children. The farm has a rule that states if your group is less than 20 people, booking is not required. However if your group is more than 20 people, it is considered as a large group and entrance fee will be chargeable with an educational tour package included.
So, once the children filled up the milking viewing platform, the emcee explained about the goat, the farm, and the milk to the children. I joined the crowd because I want to learn too. But later I found that the information is available on their website as well. If you are keen to learn about the goat, farm and milk, do read the whole content on their website , which is pretty easy to do in less than 30 minutes.
2. Drink Goat Milk
When in a goat farm, drink goat milk. We bought 2 small bottles of goat milk, each 200 ml, in original and chocolate flavor. Our verdict: it tastes similar to cow milk, and we prefer the original flavor.
Other than on the farm itself, the goat milk is also sold in selected stores, as well as on Hay Dairies website. For direct purchase from the farm, the price is S$2.70 for 200 ml and S$8.50 for 800 ml. You need to consume the milk within 1 hour.
If you want to bring home, you can purchase cooler box to store the milk, or simply buy more to be entitled to a free cooler box, more details here . There is expiry date stated on the bottle, just make sure you keep them in the chiller (temperature of 4°C and below) and avoid placing them on the fridge’s door.
3. Feed and Pet the Goats
Do you see how cute those goats are? I was so excited to get up close with the goats. You can buy Alfalfa Hay from the counter for S$5 a pack.
To get to the petting area, follow the signs along the sheltered walkway. There are 2 clusters of cage.
On the left, it is a row of elevated cage without visitor access. The reason why the cage is elevated is because it prevents the goats from being in contact with harmful pests and parasites.
They are fed with corn and hay twice a day. The drinking water for goat is supplied through a nipple-like outlet, attached to the water pipe fixed horizontally at midheight, at the front of the cage.
On the right, it is another row of elevated cage where visitors can feed and pet the goats. Some goats have voices that sound like human, it’s so hilarious!
Watch the videos I made that summarize my experience in Hay Dairies Goat Farm: here and here .
Summary of Essential Information and Tips
- The farm is open from 9am to 4pm from Wednesday to Monday. They are closed every Tuesday unless it is a Public Holiday.
- Admission is free.
- If your group is more than 20 people, you need to register in advance and pay for tour fee (a bottle of 200 ml milk is provided for each person).
- There is no meal sold here, only goat milk and snacks, so make sure you eat your breakfast before visiting.
- There are plenty of tables and benches for visitors to sit down.
- Public toilet is available.
Other Things You Can Do Nearby
If you hold a ticket to Kranji Countryside Shuttle Bus, you can go to other farms and parks on the list, namely Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve , Gardenasia, Kranji Marshes , Bollywood Farms and Jurong Frog Farm. Unfortunately, Hay Dairies is not within walking distance to other farms, so you have to take shuttle bus (if you don’t drive).

Hay Dairies: Singapore’s Only Goat Farm – A Unique Place to Spend the Day in 2023!
by Budget Itinerary | Singapore
The beginnings of Hay Dairies are one of resilience and hard work by a former teacher, Mr. Hay Yak Tang, and his family. Dating back to the 1920s, Hay Dairies started out as Yak Seng Hay Farm for chickens, ducks, and pigs. Mr. Hay bred and sold the chickens before finally switching to farming pigs in the 1970s.
The Yak Seng Hay Farm became one of the biggest pork suppliers in Singapore with over 20,000 U.S.-imported pigs. The farm had everybody working on it from Mr. Hay himself to his sons and over 30 workers. Unfortunately, by the time the early 1980s came, pig farming was phased out in Singapore, but the farm worked hard to get through it.
Like a ball, The Yak Seng Hay Farm bounced back with another plan which was goat farming! With the help of the Singapore Food Agency , the farm was able to secure its first batch of imported goats from the U.S. and officially started the first goat-only farm in the country in December of 1988!
Today, Yak Seng Hay is already better known as Hay Dairies Farm. It continues to expand its goat farming business, offering not just a simple goat farm but also a fun and educational experience that’s fit for the whole family. Its legacy has been passed on to the second-generation owner, Leon Hay, who continues to innovate and bring Hay Dairies closer to the masses!
If you’re looking for a unique place to visit in Singapore or you simply love goats (because they are undeniably cute!), then you must visit Hay Dairies, and here are the things you can do there!
Table of Contents
See the Milking Process!
The tour offers all the experience you need to understand how the goat farm works, from the milking process to tasting the final products! In fact, the first thing you’ll be able to see if you come early enough is the milking process where you’ll discover how intelligent the goats are! They literally line up by themselves and go to their respective posts.
Meet and feed the Goats!
After the milking session, you can walk around the farm, visit the goats in their barns, and even feed them with Alfalfa Hay from the U.S. The goats will be as happy as you are when you keep them company in their home, especially the teenie tiny baby goats! They’ll even nod their heads curiously at you as you pass by.
The baby goats are more curious but it’s quite a wholesome experience to find that baby goats find us as amusing as they are! You don’t have to worry about roaming around the farm since you’ll get to explore on your own.
Try Hay Dairies Goat Milk, Ice Cream, and other products!
At the end of the tour, you can buy Hay Dairies’ Goat Milk products directly from the farmers! We want to know which one you’ll like more, the original or the Chocolate-flavored goat milk. Some people say that goat milk tastes very similar to cow’s milk but we’ll leave the final say to you once you taste the milk yourself. Make sure that you also try the icecreams they have!
After tasting the milk products, fancy yourself for a soothing bar of soap made out of goat milk. Goat milk is actually good for sensitive skin since it is a great gentle exfoliator, it repairs damaged skin, brightens dark spots, and moisturizes dry skin! It is filled with probiotics, Vitamin A, Alpha Hydroxy Acid, Lactic Acid, and all the beneficial elements you need to keep your skin healthy!
Educational Group Tours at Hay Dairies!
Hay Dairies Goat Farm also offers special tours for the young ones and the curious-minded who want to learn more about the farm and the goats!
There are three Educational Tours offered in Hay Dairies: Group Package 1, 2, and 3 !
Each Group Package allows learners to explore the farm, learn from goat-loving farmers, and meet the goats. There are orientation briefings at the start of the tours that usually last for 20 minutes. Then, the first thing that visitors will get to see is the milking session.
The difference between the Educational Tours from the Free and Easy Tour is that visitors and learners will get to learn about the farm’s history, the actual process of milking the goats, and the awesome benefits of goat milk!
There are tons of freebies included in the tours! One pack of Alfalfa Hay will be given to every two paying visitors for feeding the goats as well as a 200ml bottle of goat milk for every visitor! And it does not end there because each visitor will also get Hay Dairies souvenirs and a Hay Dairies activity book with stickers for the young learners aged 12 years old and below!
Group Package 1 is for Pre-School and Primary School learners, Group Package 2 is for Secondary Schools, Tertiary Institutions, Corporate, Residents’ Committees, Families, and Other Groups, and Group Package 3 is for the Afternoon Session . All three of these groups have the same activities, except for Group Package 3 where there is no briefing and no milking session. Group 3 will still receive a free bottle of goat milk, Alfalfa Hay, a souvenir, AND faster entry to the farm!
The Educational Tours do need to be booked 1-2 weeks in advance. No booking means no entry, so if you plan on visiting Hay Dairies and going on the Educational Tours, make sure you make that booking!
Educational Tour Prices
Hay dairies opening hours and schedules, how to get to hay dairies.
The best way to go to Hay Dairies Goat Farm at Kranji is to take the shuttle bus that specifically takes visitors from Kranji MRT to Kranji’s Countryside. Frequent visitors say that the shuttle bus is much better than the public bus from Choa Chu Kang because the latter because it is too time-consuming.
Do make sure to come before the shuttle arrives in case it comes earlier than expected. Here is the service schedule to help you navigate through the different shuttle buses.
Hay Dairies Goat Farm is planning on moving to a new location at 250 Neo Tiew Crescent, Singapore 719866 in the middle of 2023, but it is currently located at 3 Lim Chu Kang Lane 4, Singapore 718859.
Budget Itinerary’s Review on Hay Dairies!
Nothing beats visiting a good place with a cause! Hay Dairies is simply one of the most unique places to go to in Singapore. It’s the only goat farm in the country so visiting this farm is already quite special on its own. It’s fun and interactive and the people behind it really put the visitors’ learning experiences in mind. It’s great for families with curious kids, schools, and even for people looking for a healthier alternative to cow’s milk!
Speaking of milk, we didn’t know that goat milk can taste so good if it wasn’t for Hay Dairies! Being able to see how well the goats are taken-care of and where the milk was actually sourced gave us peace of mind that the milk we drank is not only healthy but also ethically sourced.
If you want to book a Hay Dairies tour, you can visit their website and you can book a tour directly from there!

Singapore Farm Visit: Hay Dairies Goat Farm
We came to Hay Dairies Goat Farm after visiting Jurong Frog Fram, which was only about 1.8Km away (20 minutes' walk).
Read: Singapore Farm Visit: Jurong Frog Farm
Hay Dairies is the only goat farm in Singapore since 1988 and breeds more than 800 goats of mixed breed with origin heritage from Minnesota, United States. The goats are farmed for their milk.
We arrived at the reception area where there was a sales counter selling bottled goat's milk and some snacks. Dried grass for feeding the goats were also available for $5 per packet.
We had missed the goat-milking session from 9am to 10:30am daily. Anyway, we went to the barns to "feed and pet" the goats. The first barn, or shed, was where the adult goats were kept.
I thought that goats with horns were male and those without were females but I was wrong. It seemed that both male and female goats could have horns and beards or goatees. Male goats would have thicker horns and beards. The way to easily differentiate them would be to check below their tails.
Most visitors would start feeding the animals the moment they entered the barn and by the time they reached the last of the enclosures at the other end, they would already run out of grass. That resulted in the goats nearer to the entrance being fed until they started to ignore the grass piling up in their trays and goats at the far end looking enviously at the visitors for food.
Next, we went to the second barn where the younger goats were housed. Similarly, goats at the furthest end were hungry for food.
The slit-shaped pupils of this goat could be observed very clearly — goats' rectangular pupils are readily noticeable than other herbivores. The wide pupils allowed goats to have broader line of sights to see approaching dangers and protect themselves.
This little goat demonstrated how intelligent it was by trying to unlatch the door. It could have succeeded if it was not because of an additional locking pin that was put in place to secure the latch. The goat knew the purpose of the locking pin as it tried to dislodge it by using its tongue but unsuccessful. Noticed that we were watching, it gave up.
Leaving the barns, we were back at the reception area to try the goat's milk. One 800ml bottle of goat's milk cost $8 and the smaller 200ml bottle cost $2.50. Without paper cups to share a large bottle, we had to purchase 5 small ones. And we all went for the original flavour unanimously.
I had tasted Hay Dairies's goat's milk before and noted that the taste was much closer to cow's milk now. Over the years, they had improved the process to eliminate the goaty taste.
Some points to add, goat's milk has higher nutritions and minerals than cow's milk. It has lesser lactose content, so people with mild lactose-intolerance may find it to be less disruptive to digestion.
After finishing the milk, we continued hopping to the next farm and lunch.

The Inland Empire’s last goat dairy farmer faces a precarious future after he was robbed of a dozen goats

The thieves came in the middle of the night with wire cutters, snipping through the fence and trampling through a brush of stinging nettle. Their target? A pen of goats, some of them pregnant and others that had just given birth.
“They took the tamest, nicest goats that would have come up to them,” said Dan Drake, the owner of Drake Family Farms in Ontario. The burglars had thoroughly cased the joint before pulling off their heist on the night of April 15, when they carted off 12 of his farm’s 500 goats — including his children’s beloved pet, Nova.
Drake’s goats were easy marks. Goats can’t do much damage with a bite (they don’t have incisors on their upper jaw), and the ones on Drake’s farm had their horns burnt to stop them from growing. Lacking natural weapons of their own, his domesticated goats relied on two Great Pyrenees dogs to defend against hungry predators. But the crafty robbers somehow knew that the dogs couldn’t reach the part of the farmstead where they were breaking in.
“They took one of my favorite goats that I would never sell for even $12,000,” he sobbed over the phone. Drake suspects that one goat who was suffering from pregnancy toxemia is long dead because she didn’t receive the medicine she needed the next morning.
The Drakes filed a report at the Ontario Police Department and are offering a $3,500 reward in the hopes that the goats might still be found. So far, though, the efforts have been unavailing.
Some people have sent pictures of goats wandering in their neighborhood, thinking they’ve found the stolen animals. But they aren’t the Drakes’, said Dan’s wife, Kim, explaining that their animals are well kept and clean. “I know right away they’re not our goats... they’re not shaggy,” she said.
Nor have the goats turned up at any of the local dairies or at a slaughterhouse, said Det. Michael Williams, who’s been investigating this suspected case of grand larceny.
A little girl’s family wants to know who slaughtered her pet goat. Shasta District Fair officials won’t say
Nearly two years after he was seized, and a year-long battle in federal court, Shasta County fair officials still won’t say what happened to Cedar the goat.
March 19, 2024
This is just the latest chapter in the long uphill battle Drake has faced since 2010 to keep his dairy farm in the Inland Empire afloat. Drake cares for about 200 dairy cows a day through his livestock veterinarian practice, and over the years he has poured tens of thousands of dollars from his job into making what he claims is the best goat cheese in the country.
“He’ll tell you he’s addicted to [goats],” said Kim, who works as a nurse practitioner when she isn’t caring for their three children. “That’s [Drake’s] calling, I got sucked into it.” Kim Drake estimates that her husband works around 120 hours a week managing two businesses at once.
For the record:
1:28 p.m. April 24, 2024 A previous version of this story said members of the Drake family had been goat dairy farmers since the 1880s. They started farming in the 1880s, but Dan Drake began goat farming in 1984.
Dan Drake, whose skin is sun-kissed red by the many hours he’s spent working outdoors, gets dreamy-eyed whenever he talks about his devotion to goats. He is part of a shrinking population of Americans who still call farming a profession. He is the first in his family to raise goats, but his family has been farmers since the 1880s in Salt Lake County, Utah, where their original farm still stands.
He was only 13 years old when he registered his first goat with the American Dairy Goat Assn. — and he was immediately hooked. “Understand I’m like a cat lady, that’s me, but I have goats,” said Drake, who knows almost every single one of his 500 goats by name.
Drake’s business is one of 42 remaining goat farms authorized by the California Department of Food and Agriculture to produce dairy products, and the theft last week has put it into an even more financially precarious state.
Their business was finally in the black after Mendocino Farms partnered with the Drakes to make an entrée called “Save Drake Farms Salad” that paid off all their debts, but the pandemic reversed their fortunes.
“COVID killed us,” Drake said. “Most of our cheeses sold in high-end restaurants, and they were all closed for months.”
After COVID, Mendocino Farms ended its partnership with the Drakes to save money, he said, and they had to scramble to find a new partner, Sweetgreen. Faced with looming closure, Drake just couldn’t pull the plug on his passion project, even though it takes about $600,000 a year in total to run his farmstead and Sweetgreen makes up only about $400,000 in purchases.
The Drakes try to make up the rest by selling cheese at farmers markets and their farm, where they also offer goat petting, tours with cheese tastings. Drake also makes money selling genetically superior male goats to other dairy farms. Other male goats are sold as pets or in some cases for families to eat, but he doesn’t butcher any of the animals himself.

Goats, like cows, need to be milked twice a day, but Drake said most places don’t follow the same rigorous cleaning regimen as his business does. “There’s no cleaning...there’s no checking, you just get what you get. And that’s why the cheese tastes horrible,” he said.
He spends around $16,000 a month on 50 tons of high-quality alfalfa hay for his livestock. “When we take a lot of extra time and we double our expense and labor ... then that comes back to us in a quality product,” said Drake, who noted that his farm has Certified Humane status. Considering how much labor he puts into the farm, sometimes it isn’t clear whether Drake’s working for the goats or if they’re working for him.
But the recent setbacks haven’t deterred him from dreaming. “I want to have a regenerative farm that actually enhances the environment, doesn’t take away from it,” he said.
He’ll be moving soon to a much larger plot of land in Riverside County, where he hopes to cut costs by installing a battery or solar panel that could help combat Edison’s summertime surge pricing for electricity. And he’s realizing he can tap into the agriculture tourism industry dollars by offering more educational tours of the farm.
Drake said he’s faced many tough times in the business when the rational thing to do would have been to shut it down. But he’s never had the heart to pull the plug.
He and his wife also see the farm as a form of public service. According to Kim Drake, people who visit the farm leave feeling more deeply connected with nature as the source of their food.
Wolverines vanished from California a century ago. Is it time to bring them back?
Proposed legislation seeks to reintroduce wolverines to California, which lacks a permanent population of the protected animals.
In Drake’s petting zoo, families and children are all over the goats, which wander person to person searching for snacks and attention. Jennifer Sleeper, a trauma therapist, just happened to be cuddling a newborn goat whose mother was one of the dozen taken.
“[This] is the happiest I’ve ever been in a long time,” said Sleeper as the orphaned kid lounged peacefully in her lap and another sucked her finger, hungry for milk.
Sleeper is a pescatarian, but the Drake Family Farm’s cheese is one she will eat because she sees the ethical sourcing that goes into it. “I think it’s really good to support places like this,” said the Venice resident of the farm that is one of only two goat dairy operations in Southern California, the other being in San Luis Obispo County. She hopes to volunteer even if the farmstead moves farther out in Riverside County.
“The cheese,” she added, “is just delicious.”

Soap from Moscow

My son Timothy and I are in Moscow Russia at the moment. We will have Christian meetings here and then fly to Lithuania for a weekend of meetings there. We should be arriving back home on the 14th. We were taken to a huge mall here in Moscow that is bigger than anything I have seen in America or Canada. However, bear in mind that I am from Small town America - but however, it is HUGE. Today (6-7) is their Christmas holiday time as their dates are different than those observed in America. This is because of the Orthodox Russian Church set a different date for Christmas celebration than the Roman Church. Anyway, in the mall was a soap shop with different soap displays. I took some pictures to share with you on the soap page. Other than that, another goat item that we are enjoying is a beautiful white sliced goat cheese that we are eating for breakfast every morning. The Russian breakfast is similar to the European breakfast with a variety of cheese, fresh sliced bread that is bought in a whole loaf and sliced daily, jams, boiled eggs, smoked fish and thin slices of deli type meats.

Neat ,maybe you will get to send pictures of the goats and farms too.
Very cool. Thanks for sharing, Tim.
What are the ingredients in the forest green soap? I've never done a soap so dark but it is quite beautiful. The cheese looks delicious. Click to expand...
Very interesting....and that first picture really does look like cheese! Do they slice if off the round and weigh it when they sell it?
Yes, they weigh the soap and slice it like you would cheese and you buy the soap by the slice from the round. It is very interesting.
Oh my! What a totally cool way to do it! Thank you for sharing that.
Tim, How much do they charge for soap? Is it by the ounce, pound etc? Vicki/NC
Due to difficulties of language barriers (everything has to be translated through our interpreters) , money exchange (difference in currency), I didn't get that information so I don't have any idea as to the cost. The Russian Ruble is 30 to our 1 dollar that means it takes 30 of their dollars to equal one of ours.
Great pictures! It makes you wish you could read & speak Russian!
:really Oh I did discover that according to the prices posted that these bars of soap are $13-$20 US dollar per bar! Are we charging enough for our soap? :crazy
Great pics, I think that store is a lush store in Russia.
Tim, WOW! on the prices! But somewhere recently I came across an article about the shopping mindset of the Europeans vs. Americans and it is totally different. So maybe that explains it. It basically said Americans are cheap and want cheap goods. Maybe that is why our economy is the way it is? Who knows? Vicki/NC
