Jacquees continues to define his imprint in the R&B-sphere every time he steps behind the mic. For his latest, the Atlanta native remixed Ella Mai ’s newest single, “ Trip .” The Cash Money signee dubbed his rendition of the “Boo’d Up” singer’s single as a “quemix,” hopefully hinting at more revamped tunes to come.

Produced by DJ Mustard and Keys, the tune finds Jacquees contemplating his love for a significant other but holding back due to doubt. “I could be the perfect young ni**a for ya/ Baby girl, your love got me trippin’ on you/ You know my love is big enough, got you trippin’ on me/ Yeah it’s big enough got you trippin’ on me,” Jacquees croons. He also teased the track on social media.

In an interview with Billboard , Jacquees said that he’s inspired by music from the 90s and how tunes of the past help him to push the R&B culture forward.

“When you listen to today’s music, it all comes from that era of music, so that’s why I listen to a lot of old music,” he said. “There’s nothing wrong with listening to old music and twisting it into your own.”

Jacquees Forced to Take Down His Remix of Ella Mai's "Trip" (UPDATE)

Tuesday evening, Jacquees revealed that his remix of Ella Mai's "Trip" had been removed from the internet.

Tuesday evening, Jacquees revealed that his remix of Ella Mai's "Trip" had been removed from the internet, although he's since said there are no hard feelings.

Undoubtedly a case of a label acting in their best interests, the situation escalated when T-Pain chimed in. A fan asked why T-Pain's remix of Ella's breakthrough hit "Boo'd Up" didn't receive the same treatment, to which he responded, "Everybody be asking me why I don't put my tmixes and shit on Spotify tidal and iTunes and shit. This is why." He later added that he thinks Jacquees "tried to make money from it."

"N***a no I didn't," Jacquees responded in a tweet. T-Pain answered, saying he thought he saw the remix on Spotify, before laughing at fans asking Ella's team to sue him for remixing her music, too. It's clear that T doesn't want any issue with Jacquees, though.

Why Jacquees' remix was targeted and T-Pain's wasn't remains to be seen. But Mustard released a statement on Twitter addressing the matter, writing, "when you monetize content you don't own you are stealing and no one steals from 10 Summers."

Jacquees' rep sent  Billboard  a statement to clarify that there's no bad feelings between the artists, explaining, "For the new people who are just catching up to who Jacquees is as an artist, this has become very controversial for no reason. We love Ella and are cool with her team as well. He has been releasing not only Quemix songs but entire projects with others artists' songs ranging back to 2013. This was an act of genuine support and should not turn into negativity for either of the artists or from their supports."

The statement the rep shares makes reference to Jacquees' hope that him and Ella Mai will collaborate on an original track somewhere dcown the line. "There is still hope for the song as an official remix," the representative for Jacquees adds.

If Yung Bleu sounds appreciative to be one of the rare Alabama rappers who’s made it, that’s probably because he is. Hard work and persistence are the foundation of a sound that pairs emotion-stoking melodic beats with heart-on-sleeve vocals, and lyrics that talk as plainly about street struggles as the complexities of love. Bleu (born Jeremy Biddle in 1994) is an open book, and he’s been hustling to share his story since he started making music at age 11. While working at a factory in his native Mobile as a teen, he’d use his wages to buy blank CDs so he could share his early songs, which he’d record into his mobile phone. Inspired equally by Luther Vandross and Boosie Badazz, Bleu’s first mixtape, Hello World (2012), properly introduced his style of half-sung Southern gangsta rap. Before long, Boosie himself reached out and signed Bleu to his Columbia Records-supported imprint, Badazz Music Syndicate. Bleu pays aggressive tribute to the grind that got him this far via his ongoing Investments mixtapes, while his Bleu Vandross series adopts a softer Auto-Tuned tone to explore romance from every angle. When Bleu broke through with a vulnerable breakup anthem in 2017 (“Miss It”), his evolution from scrappy upstart to confidently earnest artist was complete.
