Toronto - milwaukee, dates: 8/28/2024 to  9/4/2024.

Guest Speaker

Shore excursion in each port of call + transfers included

In alliance with Smithsonian Journeys.

This cruise is part of a collection of PONANT voyages that are specially-tailored for English-speaking travelers who want to engage with the world. In addition to the usual elements of the PONANT experience, the listed price for these voyages includes transfers to and from the ship, talks and discussions aboard ship by world class experts, and a shore excursion or activity in each port of call that encourages guests to embrace the sights, sounds, tastes, and smells of the local environment and culture.

Set sail with  PONANT  aboard  Le Champlain  for an  8-day cruise  to discover  the Great Lakes  amidst the splendid colours of autumn.

You will leave from cosmopolitan and dynamic  Toronto, Ontario , on the shore of  Lake Ontario.  Canada’s largest city will charm you with its museums, parks, and gardens.

Le Champlain will then sail the canal connecting Lake Ontario and  Lake Erie . From your call in Port Colborne, you will be able to see the impressive  Niagara Falls . These three powerful waterfalls, renowned the world over, are an exquisite natural spectacle.

Your next lake,  Lake Huron , boasts myriad islands in its northern part, with white rocks capped with conifers plunging into the sapphire waters of the lake. Here you will discover the charming city of  Parry   Sound , in the heart of the fantastic  UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of Georgian Bay , and the quaint town of  Little Current , gateway to Manitoulin Island, the world’s largest freshwater island.

From  Sault Ste. Marie , you will have the opportunity to transit the engineering marvel of the Soo Locks for a foray into  Lake Superior , before continuing to  Mackinac Island  for an exploration of the island’s Victorian past by horse and buggy.

End your voyage by sailing the length of  Lake Michigan , a veritable inland sea, following in the footsteps of the region’s indigenous Americans, first settlers, and trappers. Make your way to  Milwaukee, Wisconsin , the United States’ “brew city,” for disembarkation.

August 29, 2024 - Sailing Lake Erie

Arrival 8/29/2024 Departure 8/29/2024

Located to the south of Lake Huron and connected to Lake Ontario by the Welland Canal, Lake Erie, which owes its name to one of the Amerindian tribes which peopled its banks before the arrival of the French in the 17 th century, is remarkable for its unique ecosystem . Its shallow fish-filled waters make it an excellent fishing spot, while its banks, famous for their many migratory birds , attract photographers and ornithology enthusiasts.

Sailing through Detroit

August 30, 2024 - Sailing through Detroit

Arrival 8/30/2024 Departure 8/30/2024

During your navigation along the Detroit River, an important commercial waterway linking Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair to Lake Huron , you will sail along the largest city in Michigan. You’ll then enjoy panoramic views over the skyscrapers of the former Motor City , jewel of the automotive industry, Fordism and Motown music in the 20th century. You’ll also be able to admire the Ambassador Bridge , which spans the river and enables access to Windsor, on the Canadian shore of the river. This steel suspension bridge, over two kilometres long, was constructed in 1929. This bridge alone carries over 25% of trade between the United States and Canada.

Sailing St. Clair River

August 30, 2024 - Sailing St. Clair River

Forming a natural line of separation between the United States and Canada, the St. Clair River , which flows from Lake Huron into Lake St. Clair, is a significant element of the Great Lakes Waterway . Used in the 18 th century for the fur trade by the French colonists of North America who sailed it on small boats to trade with the Amerindians, it was then travelled by freighters transporting lumber, iron ore and copper from the Great Lakes region to the cities of the Rust Belt.

Sailing Lake Huron

August 31, 2024 - Sailing Lake Huron

Arrival 8/31/2024 Departure 8/31/2024 midday

A natural border between the American State of Michigan and the Canadian province of Ontario, Lake Huron is one of the five American Great Lakes and one of the largest freshwater lakes in the world. Comprising the main lake, Saginaw Bay, the North Channel and Georgian Bay, and home to around 30,000 islands , it offers varied coastal landscapes and unique views. From your ship, you’ll thus be able to admire the wild beauty of the wooded and at times craggy coastline of Manitoulin Island, or the spectacular cliffs of the Bruce Peninsular.

A small port town located along the North Channel of Lake Huron , Little Current is considered to be the gateway to Manitoulin Island, the largest freshwater island in the world. A real haven of peace, sheltering wild nature and some hamlets, the place is ideal for outdoor activities such as horse-riding and hiking.

Parry Sound

August 31, 2024   September 1, 2024 - Parry Sound

Arrival 8/31/2024 early morning Departure 9/1/2024 mid afternoon

The charming city of Parry Sound enjoys an exceptional natural setting in the heart of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve , east of Georgian Bay. A holiday destination favoured by the province’s inhabitants, the city and its surroundings offer a condensed version of all that the Great Lakes region has to offer: windswept forests of conifers, rocky shores characteristic of the Canadian Shield, beaches of fine sand, clear and calm waters producing magnificent reflections that change with the time of day and luminosity… A real paradise for fauna and flora, the place will delight fans of nature and photography.

Sault Ste. Marie

September 2, 2024 - Sault Ste. Marie

Arrival 9/2/2024 mid morning Departure 9/2/2024 evening

Located to the east of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Sault Ste. Marie is one of the oldest cities in the United States. Separated from its Canadian twin city by St. Marys River, it is famous among other things for its locks , known as either the Sault Locks or the Soo Locks , which enable ships to travel the metres in change in elevation between Lake Superior and the lower Great Lakes . These locks, which date back over 160 years, are considered the most important in the world due to their shipping traffic. Make sure you visit the Museum Ship Valley Camp where you can visit the interior of a former freighter that sailed on the Great Lakes for more than 50 years.

Mackinac Island

September 3, 2024 - Mackinac Island

Arrival 9/3/2024 early morning Departure 9/3/2024 midday

Close to the banks of Lake Huron in the State of Michigan, Mackinac Island promises a real journey through time. Originally inhabited by Amerindians, then occupied by French and British colonists, this small island measuring only a few km² still retains an atmosphere of yesteryear today, with its Victorian-style buildings and elegant horse-drawn carriages. Fort Mackinac, on the heights of the island, is a reminder of the conflicts that punctuated the history of this strategic place, a former fur trade centre. In addition to this scenery from the past, the island offers magnificent fine sandy beaches and is home to one of the oldest National Parks in the United States.

Sailing Lake Michigan

September 3, 2024 - Sailing Lake Michigan

Arrival 9/3/2024 Departure 9/3/2024

You will sail the United States’ largest freshwater body, which gave its name to Michigan , one of the four states that border this lake measuring 500 km long and 200 km wide. The first colonists settled in the south at the end of the 17th century, on the site of the current megalopolis of Chicago . Wild landscapes of forests with sparkling colours , cliffs, golden sandy beaches and dunes as far as the eye can see stretch along its 2,600 km of shoreline. In the north, magnificent wind-swept islands rise out of the lake’s emerald waters. At 8 km long, the Mackinac Bridge , which spans the straits between Lake Michigan and Lake Huron, is one of the world’s longest suspension bridges.

Milwaukee

September 4, 2024 - Milwaukee

Arrival 9/4/2024 early morning Disembarkation 9/4/2024 at 8:00 AM

Nested on the shores of Lake Michigan, Milwaukee , the largest city in the State of Wisconsin, harmoniously combines tradition and modernity. Industrial long ago, the city, known as Brew City because of its old breweries renowned all over the world, is experiencing a certain renaissance. While warehouses have given way to restaurants, bars, theatres and art galleries in the city centre, the district still retains traces of its manufacturing past. Further south lies Chicago , the economic centre of the Midwest, with an interesting mix of natural and urban landscapes: its immense skyscrapers, diverse architecture, many parks and magnificent beaches make the city a popular destination.

Myths & legends

Although dream-catchers have a more decorative function today, they have a real significance for the Ojibwes from the Lake Huron region. Legend has it that the first dream-catcher was woven by a spider, the reincarnation of a young boy's grandmother whose tribe suffered from famine following a curse struck by an evil spirit. Hung at the entrance of his house, it filtered out the nightmares, allowing only good omens to pass through it. From then on, abundance returned to the village, saving the inhabitants from famine.

In the spotlight

Since the 1980s, the USA and Canada have partnered in a common effort to decontaminate the banks of the Great Lakes , especially in the most populated areas, such as Toronto. Purification plans and pollution prevention have transformed these zones from “areas unfavourable to economic growth into residential areas, which are precious economic assets”, as noted the International Association for Great Lakes Research. In a report published in August 2019, the economic benefit was calculated as more than 4 billion dollars.

Port Milwaukee WI cruise ship schedule shows timetable calendars of all arrival and departure dates by month. The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from Milwaukee WI, Wisconsin, Lake Michigan. To see the full itineraries (ports of call dates and arrival / departure times) and their lowest rates – just follow the corresponding ship-link.

Milwaukee WI is a Lake Michigan cruise port and city, ranked by population (around 595,000) state's biggest and Midwestern USA's 5th-largest (after Chicago , Columbus, Indianapolis, Detroit ). The city is on Lake Michigan's western shore and is also the main economic and cultural center of Milwaukee-Racine-Waukesha Metro (total population over 2 million).

Being one of the Great Lakes , Lake Michigan has surface area (22300 mi2/58000 km2), water volume (1180 mi3/4900 km3) max depth (925 ft/282 m), cities in Illinois ( Chicago ), Indiana (Gary), Wisconsin ( Green Bay , Sheboygan, Milwaukee, Kenosha, Racine) and Michigan ( Muskegon , Traverse City ).

In 2014, Port Milwaukee handled a total of 2,4 million MT (metric tons) of shipped cargoes. Regularly scheduled Lake Express ferries link the port with Muskegon (Michigan) across Lake Michigan. The high-speed catamaran ferry Lake Express (2004-built, IMO 9329253) is a car-and-passenger ferryboat serving the Lake Michigan route Wisconsin-Michigan (Milwaukee-Muskegon) with a crossing time of ~2,5 hours.

Milwaukee Port's cruising season runs June through October, with annual around 5-6 visiting vessels. In 2018, the cruise port handled 5 vessels and ~3200 passengers. In 2019 were handled 10 cruise ships.

In mid-December 2020, the Port signed an agreement for homeporting the cruise ship MS Pearl Mist for 9 years (2021 through 2030), with an option for the small cruise company Pearl Seas Management LLC (USA-based, operating with its brand "Pearl Seas Cruises") to extend the service through 2040. The exclusive deal provides the company with priority docking rights at Milwaukee's downtown dock located east of Discovery World, Pier Wisconsin. The deal guaranteed the cruise ship Pearl Mist to use Pier Wisconsin as homeport (for turnaround operations / roundtrips) at least 5 times per year. The ship is required to provide minimum annual rents of USD 42100 (starting in 2021), which must gradually increase to USD 50000 (by 2026) and USD 60000 (by 2036). MS Pearl Mist's itinerary includes Port Milwaukee as debarkation port (for westward Great Lakes voyages) end embarkation port (for eastward sailings).

In 2022, Viking Expeditions started a seasonal Great Lakes cruise program with one ship deployment and one-ways (8-day itineraries) between homeports Toronto , Thunder Bay ON and Milwaukee WI. After debarkation in Thunder Bay, passengers return to Milwaukee by air, and the cruise ship embarks another group of travelers (flown to Thunder Bay) for the return voyage (via Duluth MN ) to Milwaukee. The boat was scheduled to stay in homeport overnight (for ~48 hours) on each call.

The 8-day voyages are themed "Niagara and the Great Lakes" (from Toronto to Milwaukee), "Undiscovered Great Lakes" (from Thunder Bay to Milwaukee) and "Great Lakes Explorer" (from Milwaukee to Thunder Bay). Viking Great Lakes cruises feature passing through Soo Locks at Sault Ste Marie (Lake Superior - Lake Huron transition).

In 2023, Port Milwaukee had scheduled a total of 31 cruise ship calls bringing ~12000 tourists to the city.

Currently, the largest by capacity Great Lakes cruise companies are Viking Cruises USA ( Viking Octantis , Viking Polaris ), AQV-American Queen Voyages (ships Ocean Navigator , Ocean Voyager ), Pearl Seas Cruises ( Pearl Mist ), and the Canadian company St Lawrence Cruise Lines ( Canadian Empress ). Other travel brands that offer Great Lakes voyages are PONANT and Tauck ( fleet ).

Fur traders and French Catholic missionaries were the first Europeans in the Milwaukee area. The settlement was founded in 1818 by Solomon Juneau (Canadian explorer), and in 1846 was combined with two neighboring towns. In the 1840s here arrived numerous German and Polish immigrants.

The city's best-known tourist attractions include Milwaukee Riverwalk (waterfront promenade), Pier Wisconsin (cruise dock), Miller Park, Wisconsin Center, Milwaukee Repertory Theater, Milwaukee Art Museum, UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena, modern buildings (in premium neighborhoods close to the lakefront), large nature parks (with facilities for picnics, BBQ grilling, sunbathing, ice-skating, disc golfing). The city has over 6100 hectares (61 km2) of parks and parkways.

East Coast Selene Rendezvous 2023

See what our happy customers are saying.

“My Selene 80 Ocean Explorer ticks all the boxes! We like fishing offshore and Howard Chen has beautifully extended the cockpit, adding working space, waterline and speed to this powerful fishing machine. I am also delighted with the very professional layout of the engine room with its twin Cummins and two generators. Hydraulic windlass, stabilizers and thrusters were also a must in my view. The bespoke interior general arrangements is also perfectly adjusted to our family lifestyle… South-East Asia, the Celebes sea, Torres straight, Australia and the Pacific Ocean are definitely on my bucket list!”

“Our love for the ocean has always driven us to seek the best experiences. With Selene Yachts, we found that and so much more. Their blend of traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design resonates with our taste. Being able to customize elements to reflect our personality made our yacht feel even more special. Kudos to the entire Selene team for always exceeding expectations!”

“Ever since I stepped aboard my first Selene, I knew there was something special about these yachts. You can see and feel the passion in the craftsmanship, and the woodwork is just breathtaking. What truly impressed me was the strength and stability of the yacht out in open water. And the fact that I could tailor some of the interiors to my liking? That was the cherry on top. Every voyage just feels like a dream.”

New Flagship for Bering Yachts: The B165

  • By Yachting Staff
  • March 19, 2024

Bering 165

Bering Yachts , known for its steel expedition-style trawler yachts, introduced a new flagship B165 explorer yacht at the Dubai International Boat Show.

“She keeps all the ruggedness, stability, range and all-weather capability while representing a Mediterranean and Caribbean approach to life: easygoing, relaxed and full of comfort,” the company stated in a press release. “You are still traveling in your home, but with so much more open space and fresh air that the onboard life becomes a full-circle indoor and outdoor experience.”

The shipyard describes the B165 as “Bering to the bone, but with a luxury twist.” On the main deck’s elongated after section, there’s a swimming pool surrounded by sunbeds. Folding bulwarks can expand this relaxation even more, and the pool can be covered for use as stowage for water toys and other equipment. There’s also space here for two tenders.

Inside on the main deck are dining and lounging areas, along with two VIP staterooms. An additional room at the bow can be outfitted as a guest stateroom, or as an onboard cinema.

Bering 165

The owners’ deck has more than 750 square feet of space, including a sleeping area, a head, and a lounge with a bar, table and seating. An open space aft on the owners’ deck has a table for alfresco dining, while at the bow, there’s a hot tub and a lounge. Crew have access to a private service room for preparing and serving meals, with a dumbwaiter that connects to a similar service area on the main deck, and to the galley on the lower deck.

Also on the lower deck are three guest staterooms, four cabins to accommodate eight crew, and a crew mess. An additional cabin on this deck can be used for supernumeraries such as nannies, guides and masseurs.

Up on the bridge deck, there’s a lounge with a bar, an outdoor cinema, a day head and a firepit. The captain’s quarters are here as well.

Above that deck is a crow’s nest with a hardtop where guests can have an unobstructed 360-degree view of the yacht’s surroundings.

Bering 165

Eco-friendly design is also inherent in the Bering 165, according to company founder Alexei Mikhailov: “We are building responsibly. Designing a large engine room, we definitely had alternative energy solutions in mind. There is plenty of space to accommodate hybrid applications and install a big battery bank.”

Power for the 499-gross-ton vessel will be twin 1,300-horsepower Caterpillar C32 engines, with a reported cruise speed of 12 knots and a maximum speed of 15 knots. Fuel capacity is nearly 18,500 gallons, which the team at Bering says gives the B165 a range of more than 4,000 nautical miles. ABT-Trac systems are installed for guest comfort.

Does the Bering Yachts B165 have a steel hull? Yes, with an aluminum superstructure.

scintilla maris trawler on sea trials

First look inside converted 46m trawler Scintilla Maris

Damen Maaskant has revealed never-before-seen interior imagery of its 45.6-metre fishing trawler yacht Scintilla Maris . Translating from Latin as "the spark of the sea", she was delivered to her owner in September.

Scintilla Maris underwent a full-scale conversion to turn her into a capable and competent explorer yacht while also reducing the yacht's 570GT to below the 500GT threshold. This was done at her home shipyard of Damen Maaskant in the western Netherlands, with work concluding in August.

Dutch studio Vripack was responsible for the yacht's new interior calling it a "fun collaboration" between the design house, the yard and the owner.

Her new interiors have a contemporary loftlike aesthetic, incorporating skylights, curved feature walls and an eclectic colour scheme of reds, greens and yellows.

Key changes also included the installation of hybrid-electric propulsion and a harbour generator. Stricter emission regulations meant that the original 4,400hp Deutz MWM diesel engine, which was in "excellent condition" according to the yard, had to be abandoned. The new hybrid system offers four sailing modes with the help of three diesel generators.

The yard's goal of paring down the internal volume has meant more semi-enclosed and open spaces. Ten guests can be accommodated in the lower deck in four double cabins and a large owner’s suite amidships underneath the original hatch into the fish hold.

The ambitious project began in 2019, with the yard stripping back the hull to bare metal and completely ripping out the interior, decking and propulsion. According to the shipyard, the vessel's new owner wanted to build on an existing hull because of the "exceptional quality" of its design, engineering and construction.

"We’re used to working with demanding commercial clients who require a high degree of flexibility,” said Eric Moerkerk, managing director of Damen Maaskant. “Owners and their reps are always here in the yard during construction requesting changes and we’re able to react to their needs. This is the nature of the shipbuilding business today and that flexibility means we’re well prepared to handle conversion projects like Scintilla Maris .”

The vessel was one of eight models built at the shipyard, which was founded in the 1940s and later became part of the Damen Group . She was launched in 1988 and previously named Vertrouen HD23.

Sea Ranger MMS 55 first look: This British-built explorer is a true trawler yacht

  • Top stories

Using the term trawler yacht to describe the latest generation of luxury navetta-style GRP liveaboards can feel a bit jarring.

So the new Sea Ranger MMS 55 provides the perfect antidote for serious cruisers. A trawler yacht in the true sense of the word, it borrows not just its looks and hull shape from a genuine North Sea trawler but also its bulletproof build quality and heavy-weather seakeeping.

Built at a commercial shipyard in Hull from 7mm thick plate steel and weighing a mighty 60 tonnes, it has the kind of offshore integrity which most GRP craft can only dream of.

Twin 180hp heavy duty cycle John Deere diesels designed to run for 5,000 hours a year and a Category A-rated hull with a towering bow and decks littered with scuppers, should allow it to push through seas which would send most craft running for home. And thanks to a fuel capacity of 6,400 litres it will keep on plodding at 8 knots for over 1,500nm.

The stainless steel galley and dinette are below decks with a water-tight door giving access to the three cabins; a double owner’s cabin and two guest cabins with traditional bunks and a shared bathroom.

The large engineroom has been fitted out to full commercial spec with twin 21kW generators and a fresh water maker serving twin 500 litre tanks.

One thousand litres of grey and 500 litres of black water capacity further enhance its offshore cruising capability. A six-person Zodiac with 15hp outboard is housed on the foredeck next to a launch crane and liferaft.

The MMS 55 is the brainchild of company owner Rob Langton, who has long dreamt of building a leisure boat with the cruising legs and robust build of the yard’s famously sturdy commercial craft.

This 150-Foot Fishing Trawler Was Transformed Into a Rugged Explorer Yacht

Deep-sea fishing trawlers are never described as glamorous. They're traditionally forward-heavy vessels built with ramps at the stern for hauling heavy catches onto the working aft deck. On the flipside, they're large, powerful workhorses built for long-distance cruising.

For anyone looking to travel to remote places with choppy waters, a trawler is a great option, which is why a Dutch entrepreneur wound up converting one into his ultimate explorer yacht.

Scintilla Maris is a 150-foot explorer yacht built on the recycled hull of a single-prop fishing trawler. The four-year conversion took place at the yacht's home shipyard of Damen Maaskant in the western Netherlands.

"Damen built the original boat in 1988, so returning there for the refit was a dream," the owner, asking not to be named, told Robb Report . "I approached them and asked if they'd be interested in launching the same boat twice, and they jumped through hoops."

That is actually an understatement. The hull was stripped back to bare metal and the interior, infrastructure, decking, and machinery ripped out. A new hybrid-electric propulsion and harbor generator were installed to comply with stricter emission regulations, reduce the yacht's footprint, and minimize noise and vibration.

Even more impressive was the reduction of the vessel's substantial 570 GT to below the 500GT threshold, a feat achieved with the assistance of Dutch design studio Vripack, which was engaged halfway through the project.

Scintilla Maris -meaning "spark of the sea," a play on the owner's family name-is his second conversion boat. He previously converted a small tugboat that he owned for 24 years. This time, he set his sights on a larger, more complex project, albeit with the same focus on function. "I wanted a yacht that pairs comfort with limitless capability, and that I can walk about on with wet feet after a swim and not worry that I'm ruining the carpets," he said.

From the outside, the vessel remains largely unchanged. "I wanted to keep as much of the trawler intact as possible while making the outdoor areas comfortable," he says. It's achieved with large open deck areas and seating on every level, including a Portuguese bridge in front of the wheelhouse with a thermostatic seating area that uses heat recovered from the generators. Alfresco dining is on the bridge deck under a protective hardtop and on the unusual forecastle deck. This was originally used for refrigerated fish storage but now serves as a quirky barbecue and bar platform, with direct access to crew quarters.

The biggest modification is a 9.8-foot extension to the aft superstructure to create more interior volume. It allows for platforms starboard and port side to create easy access to the water.

"I have something against the psychological aspect of having a beach club or water access at the stern," the owner says. " Scintilla Maris has permanent sea access just above the waterline at the center of the boat. With no flaps or mechanical challenges to overcome, getting in and out of the water is highly convenient."

Some original features have been retained, including the hatch into the fish hold, now repurposed as a supersized skylight in the full beam owner's suite. The windows on the bridge-the owner's favorite place on board-have been replaced, yet remain in keeping with the original glass and brass fittings. The vessel's original communications equipment, including a single sideband radio and VHF, are preserved in a mini-museum on the bridge.

The new interiors designed by Vripack are built from high-pressure laminate (for ease of maintenance) and have a contemporary loft-like aesthetic. It incorporates skylights, an eclectic color scheme of reds, greens, and yellows, and soft, curved edges that bounce light and protect guests from sharp corners when in rough seas.

"The owner wanted a functional aesthetic that feels both classy and utilitarian without being overly opulent," says Marnix Hoekstra, co-creative director at Vripack. "Key to the brief was an abundance of natural light, which led to a proliferation of portholes in the hull that was in keeping with the yacht's original design, and, of course, deck skylights."

The ambitious cruising itinerary will begin with a maiden voyage to northern Norway, Iceland, and Greenland. Following that, the owner's sights are on the Northwest Passage, the start of what he hopes are a series of bucket-list voyages to the world's most remote regions.

Palm Beach International Boat Show

For superyacht shoppers, the Palm Beach International Boat Show, kicking off its four-day run this week, is set to break records with more than 60 yachts over 100 feet long on display. Last year was also a banner year for superyachts at the show.

Headliners will include the likes of the 295-foot Corsair Nero ,  the 278-foot Victorious by AKYacht, the 230-foot Turquoise-built Talisman C , and 213-foot Benetti Triumph among brokerage yachts, and in new yachts, the 113-foot Ocean Alexander Puro 35 is making its world debut.

There are so many gleaming white vessels over 100 feet, in fact, that the fleet will be split between the Palm Harbor Marina at the main show site on the downtown West Palm Beach waterfront and the Safe Harbor Rybovich Marina two miles north.

Now in its 42nd year, PBIBS will also showcase hundreds of models of dayboats, cruisers, and fishing boats, as well as marine accessories. Running from this Thursday through Sunday, the show coincides with the Palm Beach Modern + Contemporary art show, a fortuitous opportunity for yacht owners wanting to add new art to their collections.

Here are 10 must-see boats at this year’s show.

Corsair Yachts ‘Nero’

explorer trawler yacht

The undisputed star of this year’s Palm Beach show? That would be the 295-foot, classically styled superyacht Nero , built in 2007 and inspired by American financier J.P. Morgan’s legendary 1930s steamer Corsair IV . Nero ‘s attendance at PBIBS marks its return to the charter market after an extensive refit in 2021. Now better than new, the boat is being managed by Burgess. With weekly charter rates from $497,000, the vessel offers five-star accommodations for 12 guests in six cabins, with pampering from a crew of 20. Part of the refit included a full interior refresh by Italian interior designer Laura Pomponi, plus a major focus on wellness. That meant the construction of a new, state-of-the-art gym and spa, the assistance of a certified onboard trainer, a masseuse and beautician. After PBIBS, Nero will spend the winter in the Caribbean before returning to the Med for the summer season.

Ocean Alexander Puro 35P

explorer trawler yacht

Ocean Alexander is debuting the first of its new Puro superyacht series at PBIBS. The 113-foot Puro 35P comes from the drawing board of Italian designer Giorgio M. Cassetta and is a step back from the polarizing lines of OA’s recent Revolution and Explorer series with their bold, vertical bow designs. Aimed at long-distance cruising, the 35P can carry over 5,000 gallons of fuel and is powered by twin 2,000 hp MAN V12s for a 24-knot top speed. Twin 55kW Kohler generators can also keep the yacht powered at anchor for long periods. Other standout features include extensive glazing in the chiseled fiberglass hull, a forward deck plunge pool, and spacious accommodations for 10 guests.

explorer trawler yacht

Think of it as the “starter” Sirena. Aimed at a younger demographic, the Turkish builder’s brand-new Sirena 48 is making its U.S. debut at PBIBS after a global reveal at last fall’s Cannes boat show. Such is its appeal that 27 hulls have already been sold, with 13 of the orders coming from North America. Looking like a scaled-down version of Sirena’s popular 58, its distinctive, trawler-style lines are from Argentinian designer Germán Frers. With more interior space than a typical 48-footer, the yacht offers three staterooms—plus a crew cabin—a spacious, light-filled salon, a large cockpit, an oversized flybridge, and a vast forward social area. Take your pick from twin 550 hp Cummins QSB, or 670 hp Volvo D11 turbo diesels. Or the builder is also offering hybrid power with twin 285 hp electric motors charged up by variable-speed generators that are good for a 30-mile battery-only range.

Feadship ‘Olympus’

explorer trawler yacht

Picture purchasing a classic 180-foot Feadship superyacht, and then getting a $10 million bill for a major refit. That was the case with Olympus , built by the Dutch masters at Feadship in 1996 to a design by Britain’s Andrew Winch and the celebrated naval architect Frits De Voogt. Sold in 2022, the new owner sent it to the Monaco Marine refit center in La Ciotat, France for a major makeover. It included overhauling the 2,600 hp Caterpillar engines and generators, repairs to the structure, substantial upgrades to the guest areas and crew quarters, and new paint throughout. With the work completed just last year, the vessel is said to be in mint condition. Offered jointly by brokers Fraser and Edmiston, Olympus has an asking price of $28.5 million. With accommodations for 16 guests in eight cabins, the boat’s highlights include two primary suites, tropical-spec air conditioning, and Palm Beach-chic decor.

Benetti ‘Triumph’

explorer trawler yacht

Italian yachting powerhouse Benetti is showing off its superyacht-building skills with the 213-foot Triumph . Delivered in 2021, this Giorgio M. Cassetta-designed steel-and-aluminum world girder features six decks, a 1,400-square-foot primary suite with outdoor terrace and adjoining lounge, a 750-square-foot beach club, and a touch-and-go helipad. What sets Triumph apart, however, is its lavish interior furnishings put together by the owner along with Benetti Interior Style and Monaco-based Green & Mingarelli Design. It includes pieces by French glassmaker Lalique, marble from Marfil, Statuario and Armani, furs, silk and wool carpets, plus a collection of cool black-and-white wildlife photographs by British fine art photographer David Yarrow. The pièce de résistance? That would be the owner’s Triumph Bonneville motorcycle displayed in the salon.

Fjord 39 XP/XL

explorer trawler yacht

Germany’s Fjord Yachts, part of the Hanse Group, has a new 39-foot day boat that it’s unveiling at the Palm Beach show. The 39 XP and XL keep all the bold design cues of the bigger Fjord 41 XP and XL, like a big, open cockpit, walkaround center console, vertical bow, mile-high windshield and stretched hardtop. As for the differences between the XP and XL, it’s all about power. The XL comes with a choice of twin 320hp Volvo D4 diesels, or bigger 440 hp D6 versions, both with Volvo stern drives. Likely more appealing to U.S. buyers will be the XP powered by twin 400 hp Mercury Verado V10 outboards giving a 50-knot top speed. Pricing starts at around $500,000.

Turquoise ‘Talisman C’

explorer trawler yacht

Chandeliers don’t come more dramatic than this. Cascading down the central spiral staircase of the Turkish-built, 231-foot superyacht Talisman C , this jaw-dropping piece of art comprises an array of multi-colored glass balls threaded on stainless-steel rods and illuminated by hanging fiber-optic strands. It’s the creation of Prague-based Crystal Caviar and is one of a number of glass installations on this sleek, low-profile superyacht. Built in 2011 by the Proteksan Turquoise shipyard, Talisman C was designed inside and out by London-based studio H2 Yacht Design, with naval architecture by Italy’s Hydro Tec. With cabins for 12 guests, one of its highlights is a huge primary suite, which boasts more crystal chandeliers and a private library. Twin 2,447 hp Caterpillar diesels give a top speed of 18 knots and a transatlantic range of 7,000 nautical miles at 12 knots. It’s listed with Burgess for $59.9 million.

Sanlorenzo 44 ‘Kamakasa’

explorer trawler yacht

Delivered in 2020 and sold to a new buyer just last August, the 146-foot Sanlorenzo 44 Alloy Kamakasa will be for sale at PBIBS. The asking price, through the Italian Yacht Group, is $23.75 million. Lack of use might also be the issue here; the yacht’s twin 2,600 hp MTU V16 diesels have a mere 289 hours on the clock. Built in aluminum to a design by Rome-based Zuccon International Project, Kamakasa was the second hull in the Sanlorenzo 44 Alloy series. One of the top features is a primary suite that spans three levels and almost 1,600 square feet; it also comes with a private Jacuzzi, separate bathrooms, a walk-in closet, and a private study. The yacht’s lightweight construction and MTU power combine to deliver an impressive 20-knot top speed.

Bahama 41 GT2

explorer trawler yacht

As ultimate, reel-’em-in, fishing center consoles go, the Bahama 41 from West Palm Beach-based Bahama Boat Works is as hard-core as they come. But when owners kept asking for a little more comfort for the family, the builder responded. The result is the brand-new flagship 41 GT debuting at PBIBS. While the proven, wave-slicing hull stays the same, the cockpit layout is new. In place of the single bench seat, there are now three-across bucket seats with a second row behind. The wider console now has space for a pair of 22-inch Garmin screens, while the new extended hardtop features sun shades and even a rain shower. Outboard choices stay the same with either twin Mercury V12 600s, or four 400 hp Mercury V10s, good for a 65-knot-plus top speed. Pricing is from around $920,000.

Heesen ‘Book Ends’

explorer trawler yacht

Launched in 2022, this 164-foot Heesen is part of the Book Ends collection, owned by an American couple who have had more than 18 yachts with the same name. The exterior design of this Heesen was by Omega Architects, while Dutch studio Van Oossanen did the naval architecture. The yacht is part of Heesen’s fast cruising series, which is more efficient than other vessels its size, and can reach 23 knots at full speed with its MTU 16V 4000 M65L engines. The yacht is listed through Ocean Independence for 42 million Euro, or about $45.7 million.
