Our Polytechnic Advantage

New campus virtual tour provides 360-degree views, interactive features.

A new tour is available at UW-Stout, and it’s open to everyone, everywhere, anytime.

The YouVisit virtual tour, a 360-degree interactive experience, recently launched. It can be found on the Campus Tours webpage and works with a computer, cell phone and other web viewing electronic devices.

The tour takes visitors on a site-by-site trip around campus and inside the main buildings. At each location, a narrator explains building features and general uses. Harvey Hall, for example, is described as UW-Stout’s historic academic building where most general education classes are held and where the theater is located.

The climbing wall in the Sports and Fitness Center is one of the stops on the new YouVisit virtual tour.

Tour stops have embedded pop-up links where visitors can learn more about that location, such as the Ceramics Lab in the Applied Arts Building, a view of the bells from inside the Clock Tower at Bowman Hall and a look inside a typical residence hall room.

Tour users who need accessibility features, including captioning, can click an icon in the lower right corner of the video screen.

Panoramic filming allows visitors to adjust their view in any direction, inside or out to help them get their bearings on the 124-acre campus.

While UW-Stout’s Admissions Office provides walking tours to prospective students and encourages a personal visit, the YouVisit tour gives interested students a sneak peak, allows prospective international students to see campus and helps engage online students.

Sorensen Hall, home to the Admissions Office, is part of the tour and features Admissions Counselor Lacey Seefeldt.

The tour also provides alumni a way to keep up to date with campus changes, allows donors to see their contributions at work and guests, including families of students and community members, to get better acquainted with campus.

UW-Stout contracted with EAB YouVisit, a national leader in the field, to develop the tour. A.J. Liedl, creative and brand manager, oversaw the project during the past year for Marketing Communications.

“Inside UW-Stout's virtual tour experience, you'll gain a better understanding of everything that makes UW-Stout so unique as Wisconsin's only polytechnic university,” Liedl said. “It allows us to showcase the natural beauty of the university, student experiences through our impressive lab spaces, access to technology, hands-on experiences and our connection within the Menomonie community.”

The virtual tour includes 360-degree views from the Clock Tower Plaza.

Liedl said the tour is needed because of a growing demand for an improved virtual experience, including from prospective students, especially since the pandemic began. “ We found a greater need to create this access within one tool to fill that void. We know UW-Stout offers an incredible learning experience; this tool helps tell that story without placing a foot on campus.”

Liedl and other MarCom staff worked with YouVisit videographers and faculty and staff to develop the tour’s visual and spoken content. Several faculty and staff appear as site guest narrators.

Provost Glendali Rodriguez provides a greeting where the tour begins at the Memorial Student Center. Rodriguez explains the school’s polytechnic focus and invites virtual visitors to “take a look around and discover everything that makes University of Wisconsin-Stout amazing.”

The tour ends with a segment called Get to Know Menomonie, with a view of Main Street on the edge of campus. Menomonie has been ranked one of the 20 best small towns in America .

Tour visitors can forward through and return to sections as they please.

The university will be able to update the tour as aspects of campus, buildings and academic offerings change.

Campus tours and special offer: a good time to visit campus, apply.

Fall typically is a popular time for high school seniors to tour campuses as they begin applying to colleges.

Along with a variety of tour options at University of Wisconsin-Stout, the Admissions Office is offering an extra incentive this fall to take a look at the university — waiving the standard $50 application fee from Sunday, Oct. 20, through Saturday, Oct. 26.

UW-Stout student Carly Segulia talks with visitors recently while leading a campus tour for the Admissions Office.

“We’re excited to offer this one-week opportunity to students who are interested in UW-Stout and who want to get a head start on their plans for next year,” said Joel Helms, Admissions Office director. “We want to help them take a significant step toward college.”

Admissions offers six types of tours for prospective students: daily, Campus Preview Days, Stout Saturdays, Transfer Days, International Student Day and group visits.

Along with the daily tours, upcoming dates are:

  • Campus Preview Days and Stout Saturdays: Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 17-19; Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25-26; Friday, Nov. 1; and Friday, Nov. 15.
  • Transfer Days, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25-26; and Friday, Nov. 15.
  • International Student Day, Saturday, Oct. 26.

Students also can take a virtual tour of the university.

Student Arthur Roques leads a campus tour recently for prospective students.

For more information, contact Admissions , 715-232-1232, which is in Sorensen Hall

First-year students who are accepted and meet ACT and grade-point average requirements automatically receive the Blue Devil Guarantee scholarship. The scholarship provides from $1,000 to $3,000, depending on a student’s qualifications and is renewable for a second year, providing the student maintains a GPA of 3.0 at UW-Stout and is enrolled full time.

Helms noted that UW-Stout has 50 undergraduate and 23 graduate programs. UW-Stout graduates are in demand: the employment and continuing education rate of recent graduates has risen four straight years and is at 98.7% .

“Students who choose UW-Stout love our applied learning focus, small class sizes, great faculty and beautiful campus,” Helms said. “Their lives are changed here, and many of them have job offers before they graduate.”

In the 2020 U.S. News and World Report rankings that came out Sept. 9, UW-Stout was No. 14 in the Midwest among public regional schools.

Helms said UW-Stout already is an affordable option, especially considering the eStout digital learning program, which provides first-year students with a laptop computer and necessary software; and a textbook rental program that minimizes the cost of instructional materials.

UW-Stout student Carly Segulia talks with visitors recently while leading a campus tour for the Admissions Office. Numerous campus tours are offered in the fall, and UW-Stout is holding a free application week Oct. 20-26.
