The cushioning Sweet Cheeks chair with Sure-Lock back band system puts comfortable beads beneath your bottom for supreme comfort and cool breathability, which works with lower back support that can be quickly adjusted while seated in the kayak, ensuring long-lasting comfort during all-day adventures and multi-day trips. This whitewater/touring hybrid design takes you down the river with confidence and across the lake with precision glide… all in one kayak. A step up from the hybrids of past for better speed and tracking ability, while offering the best of Jackson Kayak’s whitewater expertise and super easy to roll characteristics, assuring the paddler big gains in confidence and ability.

Journey Description: The Journey inspires confidence. Like all Jackson Kayak designs, this touring model is all about balance, blending stability with outstanding performance characteristics and exceptional comfort. The Journey tracks very well and offers tremendous speed for crossing open waters. The Journey comes in two sizes, 13.5 and 14 feet. These two sizes are designed to paddle similarly, but offer a sizing solution for folks of different sizes. The Journey is built-out with three hatches, reflective perimeter safety lines, and ample deck rigging. The interior outfitting is pulled straight from our legendary whitewater kayaks and includes contouring hip pads, a touring-specific version of our infinitely adjustable “Sure-Lock” back band, thigh pads, and an ultra-comfortable seat. Optional is the best-in-class “Smart Track” rudder system, which offers the highest performance of any design we tested, and typically is only found on the most expensive kayaks in the market. Whether you’re a beginner learning the basics or the most seasoned paddler looking for heavy water rock garden paddling, this boat will take you further than you have ever imagined.

Rogue Description: One boat with two distinctly different personalities. Designed to be the quiver of one for the paddler whose appetite for river adventure is a bit more sampler platter than main course. Karma Traverse

Karma Traverse Description: The Karma Traverse mates a stretched, slightly wider version of the the highly acclaimed Karma with unique features to make for one of the most versatile kayaks ever. Tupelo LT Description: The Jackson Kayak Tupelo LT is a popular light touring/recreational kayak aimed at getting you out on short exploratory adventures. Their boats have become increasingly popular over the years, especially their freestyle whitewater kayaks like the “Fun” and “Rock Star” models. These boats have proven themselves in ICF Freestyle World Championship competition time and time again.

Jackson Kayak founder and president Eric “EJ” Jackson is a four-time freestyle champion himself, so you can be sure the company knows how to make freestyle boats. Jackson kayaks have a well deserved reputation for being extremely lightweight and rugged, although you need to be careful with the carbon/fiber hull models as they can be damaged by sharp rocks, especially in shallow, rocky whitewater.

In addition to the freestyle boats, Jackson also produces several creekers/river runners, recreational and touring kayaks, fishing models and a line of boats designed for the youth market.

The Products

Jackson makes a full line of kayaks, including a half-dozen whitewater models, creekers, freestyles, tandems, river runners and more. They also make recreational and touring models, fishing kayaks, and a variety of kids kayaks. They manufacture all their plastic boats in house, along with accessories, clothing, and they even do custom manufacturing for playgrounds, other kayak companies, and more.

Jackson’s line of whitewater kayaks includes the “Star” and “Rock Star,” freestyle boats, and their other yaks sport campy names like “Fun,” “Hero,” “Villian,” “Rogue” and the “Fun Sidekick” designed for kids. They offer several hull materials, including rotomolded plastic, superlinear /crosslink and carbon/kevlar. These boats are known for their speed, stability, and all around good river running, and the sidewall, deck package a wonderfully balanced vertical move boat for squirting, loops, cartwheels, and other hard moves. Outfittting on these boats is simple and minimal.

Jackson Kayak’s recreational and touring kayaks include the Day Tripper, Journey, Rogue, Regal and several more. They use the same plastic resin hull materials in their touring kayaks as they use in their hard core whitewater kayaks, which means these boats are light and strong. Their fishing kayaks are the Coosa Sit On Top model, and the DayTripper, which is a canoe/kayak hybrid. And their youth line incudes the Side Kick, Little Hero, Mini Tripper and more.

In our admittedly unscientific survey, most Jackson Kayak owners are a satisfied bunch. A few nitpicks aside, these boats get generally high marks for their innovative designs and attention to detail.

As reported, Jackson kayaks are extremely lightweight due to the innovative cross-linked plastic hull materials they use (although they can also be easily damage by sharp rocks, see paragraph below), which makes porting your yak up and down the river a breeze. These boats, especially the freestyle boats, tend to handle well, roll easily, spin on a dime, and make outstanding playboats for all skill levels. The design and craftsmanship are top notch.

The touring and recreational boats also get high marks for their stability and neutral handling. One reviewer thought the Journey 14 was best equipped with a skeg or rudder system, and Jackson’s Smart Track rudder system got high marks from users,  as it utilizes rock solid footpegs with gas pedal type steering. These boats also have ample storage, well made fittings and comfortable seats, even on long all-day paddles.

The only real complaints we’ve heard about Jackson Kayaks involve the hulls on the whitewater boats. There’s one drawback to the light hull materials they use on some of their freestyle models – the fact that they’re easily damaged under the wrong conditions, especially the carbon/fiber hulls.

Eric Jackson admitted as much in a recent company press release. He advises owners to avoid shallow, rocky whitewater whenever possible. Like any hulls, these yaks can be repaired, but it’s best to avoid problems in the first place.

Fishing Kayak Review: Jackson Kayak Kraken 13.5

When Jackson Kayak and Jim Sammons released the Kraken 15.5, the kayak world was shaken by this big water boat loaded with features. Now they’ve extended the line to include a 13.5-foot model that is easier to handle and easier to own. Based on the wave-splitting hull design of the popular 15.5, the new 13.5 is just as sea worthy but in a smaller package.

The 13.5 will offer the same great features and option as the 15.5, but easier to handle and easier to manage. Anglers will get a seat that moves fore and aft to balance the load, gear tracks in smart places, large open cockpit and hatches that hold fishing rods or camping gear. The hull is designed for open water and long distance but is just as at home on inshore water or small lakes and ponds.

A 13.5-foot boat is easier to load, transport and store. It is also easier to handle and maneuver but loses little in tracking and speed. Paddling the Kraken 13.5, we found the boat to be a great all-around performer. Easy to turn and easy to paddle and easy to keep on course but stable enough to stand and fish with confidence.

The Kraken 13.5 is a serious fishing machine and trim packages include the J-Krate and other accessories that making fishing more fun. Whether you get a Kraken and customize it yourself or purchase a ready-to-fish model of the showroom floor, the Kraken 13.5 is at home on any water and under any angler.

Jackson Kayak Kraken 13.5″

Jackson Kayak’s Kraken 13.5 is an all-new option for paddlers looking to tackle big water. Based on The Kraken 15.5 platform, the 13.5 sheds some length for more maneuverability but with all the punch of its big brother.

This kayak, just like the original, is designed for the most challenging paddling environments and intended for the offshore and big-lake kayak angler. It’s a natural follow-up to the first collaborative design between legendary kayak angler, Jim Sammons and Jackson Kayak’s design team led by Tony Lee. The new Kraken 13.5 is a boat shaped and built to accommodate those hitting the open water in a nimble, smaller footprint but still capable of big water management. It’s designed for punching through the surf, handling rough offshore currents, swells, beach landings and those who desire ultimate performance and maneuverability.

With more features than can be listed, Jackson has considered all the needs of big-water anglers and packed them thoughtfully into this kayak. Its great-tracking hull has the speed to cover miles and the volume and storage to carry you and your gear comfortably on long outings.
