Ozzy Osbourne cancels 2023 tour dates, says spinal injury means his 'touring days have ended'

Singer Ozzy Osbourne performs at halftime during the NFL game between the Buffalo Bills and the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 8, 2022, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif.

Heavy metal legend Ozzy Osbourne announced the cancellation of his 2023 tour dates in the U.K. and continental Europe.

Osbourne issued a statement early Wednesday saying damage to his spine suffered in an accident four years ago will prevent him from touring.

“I am honestly humbled by the way you’ve all patiently held onto your tickets for all this time, but in all good conscience, I have now come to the realization that I’m not physically capable of doing my upcoming European/UK tour dates, as I know I couldn’t deal with the travel required,” Osbourne said.

The 74-year-old Grammy winner and former vocalist for the metal band Black Sabbath said “my singing voice is fine” but said he remained physically weak following three operations, stem cell treatments, physical therapy and Hybrid Assistive Limb treatment, which uses a robotic exoskeleton to help improve movement and balance.

He thanked his family, fans, band and crew members and fellow metal pioneers Judas Priest.

“Never would I have imagined that my touring days would have ended this way,” Osbourne said. “My team is currently coming up with ideas for where I will be able to perform without having to travel from city to city and country to country.”

Ticket refunds will be available at the point of purchase, the statement said.

Osbourne  previously canceled tour dates  in Europe and North America in 2019 due to health problems, including a “bad fall” in which he said he injured vertebrae in his neck.

The singer, who enjoyed solo success after leaving Black Sabbath, announced in 2020 that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, a nervous system disorder that affects movement.

Osbourne and the other three members of Black Sabbath were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. Osbourne and his family, including his wife, Sharon, and two of his three children were the stars of their own reality show called “The Osbournes.”

He said Wednesday that his voice is fine, but due to a spinal injury he sustained four years ago, "is still physically weak." His recovery has included three operations, stem cell treatments, physical therapy and Cybernics (HAL), a robotic treatment. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2020.

Ozzy Osbourne Again Postpones Tour With Judas Priest, Announces 2023 Dates

Ozzy Osbourne has once again postponed the promised  upcoming European leg of his No More Tours II tour, the one with support from fellow metal legends  Judas Priest , this time moving the trek to 2023.

The package tour, initially  announced for 2019 , has been  postponed and rescheduled multiple times since, first to September 2020 and more recently to January 2022. Earlier deferrals concerned Osbourne's health, such as when he  battled the flu  or  suffered a fall . The COVID-19 pandemic nixed 2020 tour plans.

See the rescheduled Ozzy Osbourne and Judas Priest tour dates down toward the bottom of this post.

Osbourne explained in a statement this week, "Due to the ongoing uncertainty with full capacity events and travel logistics in much of Europe, we have come to the difficult decision to postpone my 2022 tour to 2023. Original tickets remain valid for the new dates. I want to thank all of you and Judas Priest for your continued patience and support."

Osbourne last year released  Ordinary Man  and is already  working on a new album . Judas Priest, now celebrating their 50th anniversary , recently postponed their remaining 2021 concerts after guitarist Richie Faulkner suffered a near-fatal heart dissection onstage.

The Ozzy and Priest tour is now scheduled to begin in Helsinki on May 3, 2023, winding its way around Europe and wrapping up in Birmingham, England, about five weeks later. Get tickets and more info here .

The Godfather of Heavy Metal Ozzy Osbourne has reached legendary heights, first as the frontman of pioneering act Black Sabbath and later for his electrifying solo material.

Born in Birmingham, UK, Ozzy was a child troubled by problems such as dyslexia and ADD but one listen of the Beatles’ ‘She Loves You’ was enough to set him on the path towards rock and roll greatness. After leaving school at just 15, Ozzy worked various jobs and even dabbled with crime before he lent his vocal talents to Geezer Butler, Tommy Iommi and others in forming Black Sabbath in 1969.

Taking inspiration from the Occult and the joy of being scared, the band developed a gloomy, blues influenced style of music which was all tied together with Ozzy’s eerie vocal style. Their sound was met with unexpected successes and their second album went on to deliver enduring rock staples like ‘Paranoid’, ‘Iron Man’ and ‘War Pigs’.

The band continued to ride high throughout the 70s however continuing internal tensions, particularly between Tommy and Ozzy, led to his departure in 1979. Ozzy wasted no time in picking up where he left off and released ‘Blizzard of Oz’ the following year and eventually turned 4 times platinum boosted by singles like ‘Crazy Train’.

Ozzy continued to have success both with his solo material and later in reforming with Black Sabbath however many people now know him for more than his music. Him and his family starred in the groundbreaking reality show ‘The Osbournes’ which showed Ozzy at his eccentric best and has made him a pop culture hero to many.

Live reviews

Ozzy Osbourne truly is, for my money at least, one of Britain’s great renaissance men; the frontman of the band who, frankly, invented heavy metal, a comedic genius without compare (“Sharon...how old am I again, Sharon?”) and somebody whose bravery in sacrificing his own body in the name of self-prescribed chemical experimentation is rivaled only by his only serious competitor for the title of world’s first immortal man, Keith Richards. After a decidedly uneven solo career that by now has spanned several decades, he found himself thrust out on his own again back in 2012, when Tony Iommi’s cancer diagnosis forced the cancellation of Black Sabbath’s summer touring plans. Thankfully, Ozzy being who he is, he had no shortage of comrades to bring in; he rounded up the most recent incarnation of his own band - featuring current Sabbath sticksman Tommy Clufetos behind the kit - and called in favours from high-profile contemporaries at select dates on what became the Ozzy and Friends tour. Slash, Zakk Wylde and Geezer Butler helped out along the way, and this now being a solo tour, it allowed the setlists to expand to include both classic Sabbath material and the finest cuts from Ozzy’s own catalogue, including ‘Mr. Crowley’, ‘Bark at the Moon’ and ‘Crazy Train’. If nothing else, it proved that he’s still capable of commanding crowds based on his own name alone; I’m quite convinced he’ll live forever, so there should be the opportunity to catch a solo gig before too long.

“Let’s have a fucking wild time tonight!” The Prince of Darkness leaned forward and gripped the mic stand with his painted black fingers while six brilliant flames shot several feet into the air behind him. “You ain’t fucking loud enough! I can’t hear you!” It wouldn’t be surprising if Ozzy Osbourne actually is deaf at 67 years old, but the whole thing was just an unnecessary ruse to get the audience amped up for what would likely be Black Sabbath’s last show in the Mile High City. The crowd was happy to oblige though. In fact, the 18,000+ people were already on their feet and screaming before the band even appeared. A giant animated Satan stalked the screen that ran the length of the stage before Osbourne, Iommi, and Butler were joined by Tommy Clufetos to split the night open with the eponymous title track from their debut album. The introductory sounds of thunder, rain, church bells, and dread were familiar to any self-respecting connoisseur of heavy music, but that didn’t stop chills from rattling spines as Ozzy conjured the figure in black once again. Kids seeing Sabbath for the first time were chaperoned by parents who had been seeing them for half a century, but any feelings of safety and security were immediately smothered under a blanket of doom as the Godfathers of Metal presided over their own funeral. - See more at: http://ilistensoyoudonthaveto.com/2016/02/20/black-sabbath-02-15-16-pepsi-center/#sthash.slLhXXpD.dpuf

The Ozzy show at Jiffy lube Live on September 14th 2018 was utterly amazing. I will admittedly say Stone Sour did nothing for me and I am sure Ozzy could have pulled a better opener. I am pretty sure there are many metal bands from the 70s up till now that would damn near kill to perform with him.

Ozzy's set might as well been a greatest hits live performances. I had a few friends make comments that they didn't want to go thinking his advanced age would degrade their memory of him and his music. Well they were 100% wrong as soon as he opens his mouth to sing it is like the years just disappear his voice damn near matches when the song was originally recorded and is running and jumping around on stage like a 20 something year old.

Zakk Wylde has to be one of if not my favorite guitarist. The whole show including what was probably damn near a 25 minute solo he played in the crowd was amazing.

To the effects team with the lighting and designs on the stage back drop they were amazing. Both War Pigs and Crazy train definitely stood out compared to the rest of them but all of them were excellent.

The father of dark metal and reality TV car crash Ozzy Osbourne is one of the world's most globally recognised celebrities and rightly so. The frontman of Black Sabbath and matriarch of the famous Osbournes has had a varied career, spending a large majority of it directly in the spotlight yet now he is sober, clean and a stronger performer than ever.

During his struggle with drug and alcohol addiction, many described Ozzy's performance as slurred, disengaged and sluggish whereas now he attacks fan favourites such as 'I Don't Want to Change The World' and commands his band like the most gothic conductor of all time. He also has a fantastically dry wit, easily making a thousand strong crowd fall about laughing between songs. This differentiation in atmosphere keeps the audience engaged all night and the man himself clearly indicates when he expects applause, sing-alongs or the ever present mosh pits. Although no bats were harmed during tonight's show, it is fair to say Ozzy appears more outrageous than ever and with a clear head he is able to focus his talents on the live performance.

I waited 42 years to watch BLACK SABBATH perform

On February 23, 2016, I had the opportunity to see BLACK SABBATH Live and in Concert at the BELL CENTER in Montreal Quebec Canada.

I was approximately 15 rows from the stage and not once since they took the stage did I sit down.

I was drinking alcohol and drugs when I began listening to BLACK SABBATH but when I saw them I had close to 31 years of Sobriety.

My arms were pumping, waving side to side, head was banging, whistling, singing loudly, air guitaring, drumming.

Being able to watch BLACK SABBATH LIVE was a Grateful Experience.

The two things that did not happen was 1) catching a pick from Tommy Iommi 2) Meting the band in person and shaking their hand.

It would have been an Honour to have met them in person.

The LIVE CONCERT was 100% GREAT.

This show was excellent! And let me tell you the truth about it. It was Ozzy the crowd came to see. Everybody loves Ozzy Osbourne! I saw Ozzy's Diary of a Mad Man tour two or three times, it was so good. It was right at the time Randy Rhodes was killed. Ozzy put on a good show then and he a showman still to this day. He only missed lyrics in one song that I could tell and I am 57 and had sabotage on 8 track when I was 13. But, Ozzy is 67 years old and has the right to change the words to his songs if he feels of it. May the

Almighty God, the Creator of Heaven and earth, the Creator of you and me bless Ozzy Osbourne. Amen! We love you Ozzy and Black Sabbath!

Judas Priest decided to cancel almost whole European tour in 2018 (except one show in Paris, Junuary 2018) when Ozzy Osbourne informed about his health problem. I encountered many negative comments on-line from fans who wanted to see Judas Priest alone. To be honest, I also preferred to watch Priest than watch nobody. But apparently Judas Priest felt a need to wait for their friend and play concert together with Ozzy later on. We will become the most happy people on Planet Earth on the day of their show because we will witness such a beautiful sign of respect for history and tradition of heavy metal.

The show was pretty good. Of course, Ozzy's voice isn't nearly as good as it used to be, but I was thoroughly surprised that it did sound pretty decent, better than it did on Black Sabbath's 13 album. The stage setup was pretty interesting, the videos playing behind Ozzy were neat. The best part was during the solo at the end of War Pigs. Zakk Wylde walked up the isles that the audience walks down to get to their seats, and played in front of a group of people. The drummer was fantastic as well. Overall, I would recommend seeing Ozzy on this tour.

The show started with phenomenal Rival Sons. The arena was very surprised by the whole band. They played 10 songs and every single song was amazing. But then, after 15 minute break the real show started. When Black Sabbath came on the stage, the arena went crazy. Ozzy's vocals? Not that great. But that is just him! He sang like he was 30 years old. It was amazing. But the only bad thing was that the show was only 100 minutes. But c'mon, they are 70 years old!!!

jorgi-hraba’s profile image

The show was incredible. I witnessed a living legend singing, dancing, showing lots of love to the audience. Even the Moscow crowd (Russian people don't usually go crazy at any events) went absolutely wild. Some people call Mr. Osbourne too old, and he might be, but you won't see any old men on the stage! What you are going to see is true professionalism, huge energy, amazing performance and great, great people.

Ozzy Osbourne rejects notion of retiring after canceling tour: I’m ‘not dying’

Rocker Ozzy Osbourne isn’t going anywhere — and he’s certainly not retiring — even though his earlier announcement canceling his upcoming tour was perceived as such.

The Black Sabbath veteran set the record straight Tuesday, appearing on SiriusXM ‘s “Ozzy’s Boneyard” station to explain that his career is far from over and he would hit the road again if he was physically able to do so.

“I’ve been working my guts out to try and get back on my feet. I’ve come to the point where [my wife] Sharon says to me, ‘You know what, the truth of the matter, you can’t keep booking tours and failing, canceling,” the 74-year-old told the host, musician Billy Morrison.

“If I can ever get back to where I can tour again, fine. But right now, if you said to me, ‘Can you go on the road in a month?’ I couldn’t say yes. I mean, if I could tour I’d go tour. But right now I can’t book tours because, right now, I don’t think I could pull them off,” the Prince of Darkness added.

Earlier this year, the “No More Tears” and “Crazy Train” singer canceled his spring tour stops in Europe while marking four years since a major accident that damaged his spine and resulted in a life-altering operation last year that removed and realigned pins in his neck and back. Osbourne, who had said that he is “not physically capable” of dealing with the grueling travel that touring entails, was upset with how his latest tour cancellation was perceived as the end of his career. That, coupled with the tabloids’ focus on his flagging health, frustrated him.

“This f— press could drive you nuts. I mean, I looked in the magazine, ‘Ozzy’s on his last legs,’” he mused. “I’m f— not dying. Come on guys, haven’t I had it bad enough already? If I get the OK today, if the doctor said to me today, ‘Oh, you can tour,’ it would take another six months to get it to go, you know?”

Ozzy Osbourne retires from touring because he’s ‘not physically capable’ of traveling

Citing ongoing health issues, Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne, 74, canceled the rest of his No More Tours II tour and is retiring from touring altogether.

Feb. 1, 2023

The legendary heavy metal singer said he feels “like a one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest.”

“The only thing I’ve got that keeps me going is making records, but I can’t do that forever. I’ve got to get out there, you know?” he added.

Osbourne was amenable to other types of performances, including potential residencies in Las Vegas or working in Los Angeles. But, he added, that he’s “still in constant” pain and tries to stay away from pain medications, but there are times when he’s “got to take something.”

“The Osbournes” reality TV star revealed in 2020 that he had Parkinson’s disease, a brain disorder that can cause slow movement, stiffness and loss of balance, among other issues. He told The Times in 2020 that he had been diagnosed with the disease in 2003 and that he was on medication to manage it. Later that year, he said his most pressing health issues were related to a fall he took in 2019 that left him with lingering pain.

Ozzy Osbourne cancels tour dates in the UK and Europe due to a spinal injury

Hard rock legend Ozzy Osbourne announced the cancelation of his 2023 tour dates in the U.K. and continental Europe.

Ticket refunds will be available at the point of purchase, the statement said.

Osbourne previously canceled tour dates in Europe and North America in 2019 due to health problems, including a “bad fall” in which he said he injured vertebrae in his neck.

Ozzy Osbourne’s 2023 tour dates thrown into question over singer’s struggle to recover from recent surgery

The rock legend says he can’t walk much following the procedure, but the alternative was much worse

Ozzy Osbourne onstage in September 2022

Ozzy Osbourne has revealed that six months on from major surgery, he is still struggling to walk.

The metal icon released his guitar-star-studded new album Patient Number 9 back in September but, despite making one-off appearances, including the LA Rams season opener , he has not yet toured in support of the record. Now he has told listeners of his show Ozzy’s Boneyard on Sirius XM that he is uncertain about his ability to perform on his 2023 tour dates.

“It is so fucking tough because, I mean, I want to be out there. I want to be doing it. This fucking surgery this guy did. Fucking hell, you have no idea,” says Osbourne.

“I can’t begin to tell you how fucking frustrating life has become. It is amazing how you go along in life and one stupid thing can screw everything up for a long time. I have never been ill this long in my life.”

Osbourne is referring to the ATV accident he had in 2003, which has led to multiple complications, including his latest surgery, on June 13 of this year. Nonetheless, despite his limited mobility and the struggles involved in his prolonged recovery from the most recent procedure, the singer says the alternative could be much worse.

“That surgeon told me if I didn’t have the surgery there would be a good chance I would be paralysed from the neck down,” says Osbourne.

Fortunately, the vocalist says his artistic faculties remain in tact. “The thing is my head is all right, my creativity is OK, my singing OK but I just can’t fucking walk much now…”

Ozzy Osbourne Says 2023 Tour in Jeopardy: "I Just Can't Fucking Walk Much Now"

Ozzy Osbourne 2022 1600x900 Halfin, Ross Halfin

"I'm going out on the fucking road and never coming home again." That was the future  Ozzy Osbourne   laid out for us earlier this year, but sadly, it seems like his health might get in the way of his 2023 touring plans.

For years, the Prince of Darkness has suffered from various health ailments, including a series of neck, back and shoulder injuries that got worse when he took a nasty fall at home back in 2020. Earlier this year, he underwent a life-altering surgery to fix some of those issues, and since he briefly returned to the stage for the first time in four years back in August and September, it seemed as if things were moving in the right direction for Osbourne.

However, in a new interview with Yahoo! Entertainment , the heavy metal pioneer revealed that next year's touring plans are in jeopardy because he's unable to move very well post-surgery.

"It is so fucking tough because, I mean, I want to be out there," he said. "I want to be doing it. This fucking surgery this guy did. Fucking hell, you have no idea. The thing is my head is all right, my creativity is OK, my singing OK but I just can't fucking walk much now."

Unfortunately, Osbourne's current situation is actually the better scenario of what could've happened if he didn't go through with his latest round of surgery. "[The] surgeon told me if I didn't have the surgery there would be a good chance I would be paralyzed from the neck down," he said elsewhere in the interview.

"I can't begin to tell you how fucking frustrating life has become," he added. "It is amazing how you go along in life and one stupid thing can screw everything up for a long time. I have never been ill this long in my life."

We're sending Ozzy good wishes and hoping that he can recover well enough to get back out there in 2023, given he's slated to kick off a European and U.K. tour on May 3rd in Finland.

Ozzy Osbourne Leaves Door Open to Touring Again: “I’m Not Dying”

"I gotta get out there"

Ozzy Osbourne Leaves Door Open to Touring Again: “I’m Not Dying”

After previously indicating that he was retiring from the road, Ozzy Osbourne now says that there’s a chance he could tour again.

A month ago, we reported that Ozzy had canceled his 2023 shows and released a statement suggesting that his touring career was done due to his health ailments: “Never would I have imagined that my touring days would have ended this way.”

In a new chat on his “Ozzy’s Boneyard” SiriusXM show, hosted by Billy Morrison, the metal icon clarified those prior remarks and said he would in fact tour again, but only if he is physically capable.

“So, if I can ever get back to where I can tour again, fine,” Ozzy told Morrison. “But right now, if you said to me, ‘Can you go on the road in a month?’ I couldn’t say yes. I mean, if I could tour I’d tour. But right now I can’t book tours because right now, I don’t think I could pull them off.”

Ozzy went on to say that the media exaggerated the original story, before reiterating that he would go on tour if his doctors gave him the greenlight.

“This fucking press drive you nuts,” Osbourne said. “I mean, I looked in the magazine, ‘Ozzy’s on his last legs.’ I’m fucking not dying.”

He continued: “If I get okay today. If the doctor said to me today, ‘Oh, you can tour.’ It would take another six months to get it together, you know? The only thing I’ve got that keeps me going is making records. But I can’t do that forever. I gotta get out there.”
