9 Best Dublin Whiskey Tours (Distilleries + Whiskey Tastings)

If you’re looking to do a Dublin distillery tour or if you fancy trying a guided whiskey tasking in Dublin, you’re spoiled for choice .

In recent years, I’ve done each of the Dublin distillery tours (e.g. Teeling, Roe & Co. and Jameson) and they rarely disappoint.

I’ve also tried several of the guided whiskey tours in Dublin and, while some are excellent, others are just alright .

Below, you’ll find the both the best distillery tours in Dublin along with some whiskey tasting tours that are worth considering. Cheers!

Table of Contents

Some need-to-knows before booking any Dublin whiskey tours

dublin whiskey tour

So, booking a tour is usually fairly straightforward , but I can’t begin to tell you the amount of times we’ve heard of someone booking onto one of the Dublin whiskey tours, only to be disappointed .

The below points may seem  obvious, but they’re worth being aware of before you make a booking (especially point 1).

1. Whiskey tours vs distillery tours

There’s a big difference between visiting a Dublin whiskey distillery and taking one of the many  Dublin whiskey tours. When you visit a distillery, you’ll take a guided tour. Guided whiskey tasting in Dublin usually involves trying different whiskies in one or more pubs .

2. Read the Ts&Cs carefully

Regardless of whether you’re doing a tour of the city’s top whiskey bars or you’re taking a Dublin distillery tour, make sure to read what’s included . On some, you’ll just get the guided tour, with no tasters included . With others, you’ll get samples included as part of the tour.

3. Time of day has a big impact on experience

If you’re taking one of the Dublin whiskey tours, it can be easy to aim for the latest slot so that you can follow up the tour with a night in one of the many pubs in Dublin . The only problem with this is that the pubs visited on these tours are also busier (unless they’re held in a dedicated room). If possible, aim for late afternoon , as places tend to be quieter.

The first section takes a look at the various Dublin distillery tours. And, thanks to a resurgence in distilling, there’s plenty to choose from.

Note: if you book a tour through one of the links below we  may make a tiny commission that helps us keep this site going. You won’t pay extra, but we really do appreciate it.

1. Jameson Distillery Bow St.

Jameson Distillery

Courtesy Jameson Distillery Bow St, Dublin

Although Jameson moved the bulk of their operations down to Midleton in Cork in the late 1900s, the Jameson Distillery on Bow St. is still open.

Set inside what is arguably one of the most famous whiskey distilleries in Ireland , the distillery opened by John Jameson in the late 1700s.

Enter the impressive building and discover the story behind the world’s most famous Irish whiskey brands while sampling a variety of whiskeys. This is regarded as the best whiskey tour in Dublin for good reason.

Key info on this Dublin distillery tour:

  • Cost: Around €30 p/p
  • How long it lasts:  45 minutes
  • It includes: Guided tour, whiskey tasting and a Jameson cocktail
  • See reviews + book: Right here

2. Pearse Lyons Distillery

Pearse Lyons

The Pearse Lyons Distillery is arguably the most unique whiskey distillery in Dublin, as you can see from the photos above.

It was founded by the late Pearse Lyons and the distillery is housed within the walls of an old church (the stained glass windows above should give you a sense of what to expect!).

Visitors will discover the story of Pearse Lyons, from his days working at the Harp brewery in Louth to his transformation of an old and dilapidated church in Dublin’s Liberties.

  • Cost: Around €22 p/p
  • How long it lasts: 1 hour
  • It includes: Guided tour and a whiskey tasting including 3 whiskies

3. Roe & Co Distillery

Roe and Co Distillery

Diageo’s Roe & Co Distillery is the newest whiskey distillery in Dublin, and you’ll find it a stone’s throw from the Guinness Storehouse . I had a drink here at the end of last year, and the place is very well kitted out.

Everything from the toilet to the seats at the bar feel plush, although the building has retained a nice rustic feel to it.

Those that visit can hear the story of George Roe (the legendary 19th-century whiskey pioneer) and dive into the golden era of Irish whiskey .

  • Cost: Around €25 p/p
  • It includes: Fully-guided tour, a choice of 2 workshops and a cocktail

4. The Teeling Whiskey Distillery

Teeling’s Whiskey

The Teeling Distillery was, interestingly enough, the first whiskey distillery in Dublin to be built in 125 years when it launched a few years back.

You’ll find it finely plonked in what’s known as Dublin’s ‘Golden Triangle’, which was once a historic distilling district at the heart of the city.

The Teeling’s distillery opened its doors to the public in 2015 and has since played a key part in Dublin’s vibrant whiskey revival.

Those that visit Teelings can join a tour and discover the history behind Walter Teeling’s original craft distillery (it was located on Marrowbone Lane).

  • Cost: Around €18 p/p
  • It includes: Fully-guided tour of an operational distillery Tasting of the award-winning Teeling whiske

5. The Dublin Liberties Distillery

Dublin Liberties Distillery

Photos via Dublin Liberties Distillery on FB

The Dublin Liberties Distillery is set in a modern, state-of-the-art distillery on Mill St., where it’s home to one of the lesser-known Dublin whiskey tours.

I’ve been hearing great things about this place for a while now. The visitor experience is said to be immersive and the guides, by all accounts, are excellent.

If you head off on the tour of this Dublin distillery, you’ll discover the history of Dublin’s Liberties district and you’ll get an insight into the distilling process that takes place.

  • Cost: Around €17 p/p
  • How long it lasts: 45 minutes
  • It includes: Welcome drink, guided tour and whiskey tasting

1. Whiskey Tasting Tour of Dublin

best irish whiskey in ireland

This 2-hour whiskey tasting in Dublin takes your tastebuds on a food and drink adventure to The Lincolns Inn and the Palace Bar in Temple Bar (sample some of the best Guinness in Dublin ).

The tour is led by an expertly trained whiskey guide and you’ll sample 5 Irish whiskies along with cheeses, Irish bread and chocolate.

Key info on this whiskey tour in Dublin:

  • Cost: Around €55 p/p
  • How long it lasts: 2 hours
  • It includes: Tasting of 5 whiskeys with cheese, soda bread and chocolate

2. The Irish Whiskey Museum

I visited the Irish Whiskey Museum a couple of years ago as a going-away present for a friend. If you, like me, wouldn’t be the biggest fan of whiskey, the tour at the Irish Whiskey Museum in Dublin is a good way to ease yourself into it.

You’ll learn about the history of the drink from a very energetic guide, and you’ll get to sample a number of different whiskies, which helps you get a gauge of what you like and what you don’t.

The one thing that this Dublin whiskey tour confirmed for me is that you’d have to beat me to get me to take a sip of peaty whiskey ever again.

  • It includes: Guided tour and a master whiskey tasting session

3. The Dublin Whiskey Experience

Next up is The Dublin Whiskey Experience . Led by an expert guide with 20-years experience in the hospitality sector, this tour packs a punch, going off reviews online.

The tour is €70 p/p and takes you around the city, trying different whiskies while taking in the history of whiskey in Dublin.

  • Cost: Around €70 p/p
  • It includes: Guided tour and whiskey tasting

How It Started

Our journey.

The Irish Whiskey Museum opened its doors to whiskey lovers from across the world in 2014. We tell the complete and unbiased history of Irish whiskey and its importance in Ireland’s turbulent past. Housed in a historic building in the city center, the museum is comprised of an extensive whiskey bar, historic exhibits, a tasting room, and a retail area filled with whiskey and souvenirs. We work with over 30 whiskey brands across Ireland and Northern Ireland, portraying the different distillation methods and styles of whiskey.

There's something for everyone

Guided tours, independent of all brands, central location, plan your visit, in the heart of dublin.

Listen, learn and laugh during guided tours of the Museum. Walk throughout the building where each of the 4 different rooms represents a different period in Irish history. Finish the tour by becoming a true whiskey expert with a tasting of three or four different Irish whiskeys. Other tours, such as the Whiskey Blending Experience and the Irish Coffee Masterclass experience, are also available. Or visit our shop and speak to one of our whiskey experts and find the perfect whiskey for you!

If you want to explore Dublin and have a interest in Whisky and Guiness look no further! I booked the „historic Dublin whiskey walk“ experience for me and 7 friends. The tour was excellent, we could not have wished for anything better. Derek is not only exceptionally knowledgeable about whiskey, he also knows a lot about the history of the city and the country. The entire communication was very professional and he also gave us a lot of advice on what not to miss in our time in Dublin! We had the best afternoon!! Would definitely recommend and do again!

This man is a walking whiskey-dictonary! Nice guide, cool bars, good time with my friends! Better take some notes, because you will get a truckload of information 🙂

Patrick was a fantastic and knowledgeable guide as first we strolled through the Liberties, learning more about Pearse Lyons, Roe & Coe and Powers, and then we sipped, stopping at some top notch pubs. Derek, who had organized it, even came by to our last stop at The Swan. I highly recommend this tour for anyone interested in upping your knowledge of Irish Whiskey and also wanting some good Cráic - Slaínte!

This was a fantastic experience. Derek is a brilliant guide and we had the best time with him. He takes you off the beaten path to some incredible old pubs, you taste some delicious whiskeys and his knowledge, stories and anecdotes are just incredible. I cannot recommend this enough and when we are back we will try some of the other tours on offer. Such an amazing treat!

Patrick Fox was a great guide and so informative! He was very knowledgeable on the whiskey we had and my husband liked his overall personality. I liked he didn’t mind we were a bit behind because of traffic. Would do this again next visit to Dublin! Highly recommend

The Irish Whiskey Experience was mindblowing with Derek! We had a great time walking around The Liberties and understanding the history of the Distilleries in that area. Derek took us back in time and made us taste different varieties of whiskey at amazing traditional Irish pubs and bars. We also had delicious toasties at the Capstan Bar and we all were stunned with how much Dublin has to offer in respect of Whiskey and Distilleries. We finished off the tour by having whiskey and pints at the Swan Bar and it was an awesome experience with Derek. He was a great and friendly host and made sure our Sunday was well spent.

Each of these tours includes a tasting of fine Irish whiskey. If you’re not yet familiar with the triple-distillation that Irish whiskey goes through, you may not realize how smooth and easy to drink it is. Why not give it a try while you’re in Dublin.

Teeling Distillery Tour

Teeling Distillery's stills

Address: 13-17 Newmarket, The Liberties, Dublin 8, D08 KD91

When the Teeling Distillery is the first distillery to open in Dublin in over 125 years, the Teeling’s aren’t new to Irish Whiskey. In fact, the family has been distilling whiskey since 1782.

The Dublin distillery opened to visitors in 2015, in the Newmarket area, where breweries and distilleries used to be aplenty in Dublin back before they faded away in the 70s. Teeling Irish Whiskey is triple distilled, carrying on the traditional style.

When you visit the distillery, you’ll have a chance to walk through a whiskey museum that tells the history of Irish Whiskey in Dublin.

You’ll then be introduced to the whiskey distillation process in a room where you can touch, smell and taste the grains that are used, and see how everything works. This is followed by a tasting of a few Teeling whiskies in the tasting room/bar area, called the Bang Bang Bar.

The price of your tour depends on which tasting you choose. There are three different options, so choose wisely. The tasting we had included a cocktail made with whiskey. It was incredibly good.

Whiskey tasting at Teeling

I was particularly enamored with the single malt whiskey. There’s also a single batch and single grain. Five different wine casks were used for the single malt whiskey (Sherry, Port, Madeira, White Burgundy, Cabernet Sauvignon). Maybe that’s why I liked it so much. All of that complexity in one whiskey.

All of them were very smooth and easy to drink, as Irish Whiskey should be. Once the tour is over, you can head to the bar for more tastes, or look around the shop. All of the whiskeys they currently sell are available in small and large bottles in the gift shop.

Tours are run every day, every 20 minutes, but they still fill up really fast, so be sure you book online well in advance.

Jameson Distillery Tour

The entrance to the Jameson tour in Dublin

Address: Bow St, Smithfield, Dublin 7, D07 N9VH

It’s really easy to book a tour at the Jameson Distillery. It’s located within easy walking distance of the central Dublin core, and there are tours starting twice an hour every day. On the Jameson whiskey tour, you’ll learn a lot about the distilling process they use to make Jameson whiskey.

The Jameson experience has been upgraded and renovated to include a section with historical facts about the distillery and whiskey in Dublin, plus an area where you can see, smell and touch the ingredients that are used, and a really nice tasting room, where you’ll be able to try whiskey from three different countries, to see the difference between a single, double and triple distillation. The triple distillation is what makes Irish whiskey so smooth and easy to drink.

At the end of the tour, or if you’d rather just have a visit without a tour, you can sit at the bar and order whiskey drinks and cocktails. The bar is rather spacious, with lots of places to sit and relax. There’s also a shop where you can purchase Jameson whiskey and other products, like glasses, t-shirts and souvenirs.

Irish Whiskey Museum Tour & Brunch

Irish Whiskey Museum

Address: 119 Grafton Street, Dublin, D02 E620

Taking a tour through the Irish Whiskey museum is another great way to spend some time learning about whiskey. Along the way, you’ll learn about the history of whiskey in Ireland, how it was once so prosperous and how it eventually faded away, before being revived now once again.

The tour is an interactive experience, so you don’t have to worry about it being boring. The guides walk you through the displays and explain everything as you become emerged in history. Once the tour is over, you’ll have a tasting of 3 Irish whiskeys – 4 if you choose the premium tour.

You can also add a blending experience to your tour, where you’ll get to blend your own personalized mini bottle of whiskey to take home. The museum has a bar and cafe, so you can stick around for a bite to eat or another drink before you leave. Check out the website for additional experiences. There’s a tour that includes brunch in the cafe!

The best part about the Irish Whiskey Museum is that it’s located right at the entrance of Trinity College, which is one of the most centrally located corners in all of Dublin. It’s really easy to get to!

Roe & Co Irish Whiskey Distillery is Dublin’s newest distillery, located in the former Power House of the Guinness Brewery, which is about 20 minutes walking from the city center.

There are two tour options: the Flavours Workshop where you’ll learn about the art of cocktails, and the 106 Blending Experience, which dives into the art of blending with a tasting in ‘Room 106’. Both tours are 40 minutes long with a 45-minute table reservation in the bar following.

The Power House Bar and Cocktail Village is open Wednesday to Sunday. Distillery tours and tastings are available Thursday to Saturday from 3pm to 8pm. Tours include a fully immersive walkthrough of the state of the art still house. Be sure to book in advance .

The Dublin Liberties Distillery

Dublin Liberties Distillery

Address: The Mill, 33 Mill St, The Liberties, Dublin 8, D08 V221

Also located in Dublin’s Whiskey Triangle is The Dublin Liberties Distilllery. This centuries old distillery has had a storied past as has the Liberties district, and those stories are told through their range of whiskeys. Each bottle is named for a particular location in the district.

For your visit, you can join in on a tour – there are two to choose from – of the working distillery to see the copper pot stills and taste the range of single malt and blended Irish whiskeys. Along the way, you’ll hear the stories of the historic Liberties area that inspired their whiskeys.

If you’d rather skip the tour, you can also just go upstairs to their bar and have a tasting. They also offer crafted cocktails, coffee and light bites.

Pearse Lyons Distillery

Pearce Lyons Distillery

Address: 121-122 James’s Street, Dublin

Pearse Lyons Distillery is a really unique one because it’s located in the former Church of St. James, a colourful history dating back to the 12th century. Of course, it’s also located in the Liberties in the Whiskey Triangle, so it’s just a few minutes walk from the others you may be visiting above. It’s also just a 5-minute walk from The Guinness Storehouse.

Being Dublin’s only boutique distillery, you’ll get a more localized experience here. The tour takes you around the distillery and the graveyard to learn about the characters of Dublin’s famous distilling and brewing district.

The Pearse Lyons Distillery produces some of Ireland’s finest small batch Irish whiskies and you’ll get to enjoy them in a whiskey and gin tastings at the tasting bar. There are all kinds of different options for tours and tastings, so be sure to check their website and book in advance.

Hubby would love one of this, but last time we were in Dublin we didn’t have time for a whiskey tour. Also… I don’t drink at all 🙁

Bummer. You’ll just have to go again, I guess! 🙂

Whiskey distilleries! I loved it ! We did a lot in Scotland, now I kinda want to go for the ones in Ireland too.

We just went to a bunch in Scotland too. Of course it’s the same process, but they triple distill in Ireland!

I just had a Canadian friend who did the Jameson whiskey tour in Dublin. She had a great time, I must hop over the pond for it 😀

It’s even better now that they’ve redone it recently!

Each tour looks fun and informative too Laura. And….tasty 😉 Even though I barely drink I would have a sip here and there to test the fare in an authentic setting. How much more authentic could you get, right? Enjoying these whiskeys in a distillery.

Definitely can’t get much more authentic! It’s also nice to see that there’s a resurgence of whiskey distillers in Dublin now.

I’m a whiskey-lover, but I’ve NEVER been to a distillery! How crazy is that?! I’ve gotta do it! It seems like Ireland and the U.K. are great spots for this!

You should definitely check one or two out. It’s fun to learn the process, especially if you’re a whiskey fan.

Thanks for this guide! This is something that I would like to do in Dublin when I get there in few months!

Have fun, Christine!

Spent quite a lot of time in Dublin in the past but never made it to one of these tours. Whiskey is not my thing but sounds great for fans of the drink 🙂 Polly

With so many Irish whiskey tours in Dublin, it’s so hard to know which one to take. You’ve made the choice easy–no need to do any extra research. These sound like fun choices!

When in Dubalin, I should definitely add this to my list of things to do. I’ll also follow your recommendation to do a pubcrawl! That’s surey be fun and exciting 🙂

Definitely, Cai! I love doing a pub crawl in Dublin.

Since I’m not a beer drinker, I’ve always thought I would skip the Guinness tour when I visit Ireland. Now I know, I can check out the whiskey instead.

I can see why you might skip it if you’re not a beer drinker, but it’s still a pretty fascinating place, just to learn a bit.

Hi Laura & Nick, I would love to take part in Whiskey Tour. When I was living in Canada I took part in a few wine tours to Niagara on the lake and Price Edward County area famous for the best wines there 🙂 I’m not a huge fan of whiskey but I’m very opne minded for new experiences and this is something I would like to try. Ireland is still on my list of places to visit so now I have and idea what I will be doing there 🙂

Best, Kasia

You’ll definitely like them, Kasia, if you’ve enjoyed wine tours. Very similar.

Ah! Whiskey tours sound great. For a Whiskey guy like me, that would be such an awesome experience!

See The Book Of Kells At The Trinity College Library

The Library of Trinity College in Dublin is one of the oldest libraries in Ireland and nothing will make time fly by quicker than the dark aisles of its 16th-century reading halls. The library has over 7,000,000 volumes of books on its shelves but if there's one thing that visitors must see, it's the Book of Kells -- the four Latin Gospel manuscripts dating back to the 9th century. No matter the time of the year, the library always has at least one volume on display for the public to see.

Catch A Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour

Flights can get pretty darn tiring. Oftentimes, there's very little energy left for anything exciting on a layover, let alone exploring an entirely new city . In that case, hop-on hop-off bus tours offer visitors an excellent means through which to see Dublin without much physical exertion on their part. Simply catch an open-top double-decker bus, grab a seat in a corner, and watch Dublin's top attractions pass by as you listen to audio guides for context.

Get A Taste Of Irish Food

What better way to spend a layover in Dublin than to eat your way through the Irish capital? Food blogger Ketty Quigley's Delicious Dublin Tours take visitors on a three-hour walking trip around the city with stops at plenty of famous eateries in between. As local experts tell tales of Dublin's food history, visitors will not only taste the best of local Irish food, but they will also learn of its past and present. These tours operate regardless of the weather in the notoriously temperamental capital.

Hop Onto A Viking Splash Tour

Long layovers in Dublin are one thing if you're alone or in the company of a fellow adult, but finding entertainment can be a far more tedious task when traveling with kids. A Viking Splash Tour is an excellent adrenaline-filled activity -- and an incredibly unique one at that -- for both adults and kids to take part in when in Dublin. The tours take place on a restored World War II amphibious vehicle that functions much like a bus on the roads but transforms into a boat as it mightily glides into the Grand Canal Dock, splashing passengers on board with the cold waters of the canal.

Drink At Temple Bar

What visit to Ireland is complete without a proper pint of Guinness? Head to the place that does it best, and arguably the most famous bar in not only Dublin but all of Ireland: Temple Bar Pub. Not to be confused with the neighborhood that is called Temple Bar, Temple Bar Pub is an infamous landmark pub with the traditional bright red exterior, welcoming you in to have a pint or two.

In 1922, Dublin Castle was given to the Irish government, where it now serves as a popular tourist hotspot. Chester Beatty

Within the confines of Dublin Castle is what Lonely Planet has described as one of the best museums in Europe: Chester Beatty. Also known as Chester Beatty Library, this museum is home to the collections of Sir Chester Alfred Beatty, a philanthropist and mining magnate who was given the title "King of Copper" due to his fortune. The collections at Chester Beatty include but are not limited to Arabic treatises on religion, Western manuscripts, pieces from Persian poets, and even Japanese art.

There are also plenty of eateries on site, like the top-rated vegan burgers at Flip Burgers and proper wine and cheese at Loose Canon.

Take A Guinness Brewery Tour

Back to booze because, hey, it is Ireland, after all. Aside from Irish whiskey, the most popular alcoholic beverage in Ireland is Guinness. The Irish take their Guinness seriously. There's a craft behind pouring each one which amplifies the overall taste. If you're curious to know the art behind this extremely popular beer, head to the Guinness Brewery for a tour.

See Local Music At Whelan's

Who doesn't love a good Irish folk band? While you are bound to find live music at pretty much any pub in the city, Whelan's is one of the best. Drink High Tea On A Vintage Bus

Are you less interested in whiskey and stouts and more interested in feeling posh with a cup of tea in hand? There are many tours to book in Ireland , but one of the more unique experiences in Dublin offered on GetYourGuide is a high-tea tour while riding on a vintage bus . Priced at about $50 per person, a high-tea tour in Dublin is a fun way to experience the city from a double-decker bus that's been refurbished to be its fanciest self. The tour comes with food options, including those that are vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free friendly.

Cross Ha'Penny Bridge

The Ha'Penny Bridge is a pedestrian bridge located in central Dublin. It was built in May 1816 over the River Liffey and remains a popular tourist attraction to this date. Its central location is close to the popular Temple Bar neighborhood, and the best part about ticking Ha'Penny Bridge off of your bucket list during a short layover is that it's only going to take a few minutes to see it.

Free Walking Tour

Explore Dublin by foot, see plenty of major tourist hot spots, and learn the history through a local tour guide, all for zero cost. The tour is offered several times a day, meaning it's likely you can fit it into your Dublin layover regardless of what time you land.
