Product description.

LifeinaBox, portable fridge, insulin fridge

The LifeinaBox miniature fridge

LifeinaBox is a portable mini fridge that allows people to transport temperature sensitive medication. The device is small, stylish and connected to an app that monitors the temperature of the medication and the battery life. LiefeinaBox helps people to travel anywhere, any time, knowing that their medication is always available at exactly the right temperature.

The Freedom to Travel

LifeinaBox is a portable refrigerator, designed for the safe transport of fragile medications such as insulin or growth hormones. About 5% of the worldwide population are “prisoners” of their medication, because their medication must be maintained at a temperature between 2 and 8°C at all times. To these people, LifeinaBox gives the freedom to travel anywhere, anytime, with the peace of mind of knowing that their life-saving medication is kept at exactly the right temperature.

Connected to a Smartphone application, available in iOS and Android, LifeinaBox is an essential tool for the better management of medication schedules, as well as the management of chronic diseases. The Lifeina app not only follows the temperature of the medications in real time.

  • THE FREEDOM TO TRAVEL Designed for the safe storage of fragile medication at an optimum temperature (2 - 8°C). Keeps your medication cool and at a constant temperature at work, at home or in your car.
  • CONSTANT TEMPERATURE Refrigerates up to 8 standard injectable medicine pens or vials*. Includes both a universal 110-240V power cord and a 12V DC power adapter for your car.
  • BETTER CONTROL The Lifeina app will monitor the temperature of your medication and your battery life in real time.
  • BUILT-IN BATTERY A 6-hour "emergency" battery is included inside LifeinaBox, and separate plug-in battery packs are available. The emergency battery can be used, for example, if you stop the car and want to have lunch. However, they are not quite as powerful as the LifeinaPower battery packs and will keep your medication at a temperature of about 8 or 9°C, which is acceptable but not ideal. If you really want to travel without electricity, then use the LifeinaPower super-powerful power banks.
  • RECOMMENDED USES Insulin, growth hormones, adrenalin, monoclonal antibodies, vaccines, interferons

LifeinaBox

For Uwe Diegel, creator of the original concept of the world’s smallest fridge, LifeinaBox is the ultimate expression of technology to the service of users: " In 2003, my brother almost died following an incident where his medication was accidentally frozen in a hotel. I have always wanted to do something about this. There are today over 5 million people in France who are prisoners of their medication. We started this company because of reasons that are more of a personal nature than just business. Lifeina is for me the ultimate expression of innovation at the service of healthcare. With Lifeina we intend to make products that are designed by patients for patients so that we can give them the freedom to travel where and when they want, knowing that their medication is kept at exactly the right temperature".

Always keep your Lifeina product closed unless you need to access your medications. WHAT IS LIFEINABOX

LifeinaBox is the world’s smallest medicine fridge, designed for the safe transport of fragile medications such as insulin or growth hormones.

Connected to a Smartphone application, available in iOS and Android, LifeinaBox is an essential tool for the better management of medication schedules, as well as the management of chronic diseases such as diabetes. The Lifeina app follows the temperature of your medications in real time so that you can better manage your meds.

LIFEINA APP

travel medical fridge

FREEDOM TO TRAVEL

Designed for the safe storage of fragile medication at an optimum temperature (2 - 8°C). Keeps your medication cool and at a constant temperature at work, at home or in your car.

CONSTANT TEMPERATURE

Refrigerates up to 8 standard injectable medicine pens or vials*. Includes both a universal 110-240V power cord and a 12V DC power adapter for your car.

BETTER CONTROL

The Lifeina app will monitor the temperature of your medication in real time and will send you automatic reminders when it is time for you to take your medication.

ALARM FUNCTION

An alarm will start to beep when the battery is down to a 20% charge. To turn off this alarm, simply click the O/I button on the right of the device. When the battery arrives to a 10% charge, the alarm will start again and it will not be possible to turn it off until you plug in the device.

BUILT-IN BATTERY

A 6-hour "emergency" battery is included inside LifeinaBox, and separate plug-in battery packs are available (see LifeinaPower ). An alarm is included in the LifeinaBox, so that when power reaches 20%, the alarm will warn you that it is time to recharge your battery.

CAN I USE LIFEINABOX ON A PLANE The LifeInaBox is NOT recommended for transporting your medication on a plane as it wasn’t really designed for that. It was designed more for hotels, cars, office, and home use. Although in theory you can use the LifeInaBox on the plane, we don’t really like the idea of people walking around with a fridge under their arm. Note that you cannot charge the LifeInaBox on the plane. It is much easier to use one of the specially made Lifeina Bags or MedActiv iCool Bags, which you can slip into your hand luggage, then use your LifeInaBox when you reach your destination. WHERE SHOULD I KEEP MY LIFEINABOX WHEN I FLY?

You should anyway keep your medicine with you at all times, whatever the means of transport;

NEVER STORE YOUR MEDICINES IN LUGGAGE THAT WILL BE CHECKED INTO THE AIRPLANE CARGO STORAGE!

If your baggage is lost, or your flight is delayed, it might ruin your holiday.

Even if it is possible to use LifeinaBox on an airplane, we generally think that it is easier for plane travel to use one of our isothermal bags (LifeinaBag12 or LifeinaBag 24, that will also keep your medication between 2 and 8°C). The bags are just easier to stick in your handbag than a portable fridge. We tend to use LifeinaBox more in a car, hotel, home than on a plane.

But if you want to take your LifeinaBox on a trip with you on the plane, there is really no problem at all to do this. However, you will need the LifeinaTravel bag to transport your fridge, and you might want to get an extra battery (LifeinaPower) as well.

RECOMMENDED USES

Insulin, growth hormones, adrenalin, monoclonal antibodies, vaccines, interferons*

*For a comprehensive list of compatible pens and medications, log-on to lifeina.com and visit our downloads section.

CAVITY SIZE

The cavity internal measurements are 180 mm wide x 64 mm deep x 40 mm high, so a whopping 468 cm2. You should be able to fit 8 standard insulin pens inside.

INSIDE THE LIFEINABOX PACKAGING IS

A portable medication fridge - an AC/DC adaptor 110/220V with 4 different plugs for the USA, China, Europe, Switzerland, Australia and the UK - a cable to plug your LifeinaBox in the 12V power socket of your car

THE BEST PORTABLE MINI FRIDGE FOR MEDICINE AND KEEPING INSULIN COLD WHILE TRAVELING

For many travelers that suffer from conditions that require them to always have their medication refrigerated while traveling, keeping their medication cold is a huge problem.  The traditional solutions have been utilizing ice packs and thermal conserving packs to keep medication cool are not as effective as a dedicated travel friendly Uber Appliance Uber Chill  Insulin Mini Fridge .

WHY USING ICE PACKS INSTEAD OF A MINI MEDICINE FRIDGE WON’T WORK

The biggest problem with using Ice packs and Thermal Conserving bags is that the Ice packs melt quickly, usually within 2 hours.  When you are on the road there is almost no way of re-freezing the ice packs unless you stop at a hotel to use a full-sized fridge.  Stopping so frequently to re-freeze the ice packs is not only expensive but also makes traveling a huge pain.  An alternative would be to use Ice from a gas station to fill a small thermal conserving bag.  While using Ice sounds good in theory it is almost as painful as using ice packs because you constantly need to stop to dump the melted ice/water mix and re-fill your thermal bag with more ice.  In both scenarios, the medication starts off cold and as time goes by the temperature starts rising which risks the integrity of the medication as it heats up to ambient temperature. Personally, I would be very concerned about using medication that has been thermally cycled several times during a trip.  There is a huge chance that the medication may have gone bad without you noticing, and in the case of a diabetic that can mean the difference between life and death. A mini fridge for medicine is a much more effective and safe approach to traveling with medications that need to be temperature controlled such as insulin.  An insulin refrigerator will help keep the medication consistently chilled throughout your travels and ensure safe medication upon arrival.  With a small size and easy to power features a mini fridge for medication is essential when traveling with medicine.

WHY USE AN UBER MINI FRIDGE FOR MEDICINE TO KEEP MEDICATION COLD ON LONG TRIPS

At Uber Appliance, we recognized the potential for using our medications fridges to keep their medicine cold on long trips. We developed our Uber Chill and Uber Chill XL mini fridge to utilize a 12v plug (cigarette plug in) to power the fridge for extended use in a vehicle on long trips. Using an Uber mini fridge for medicine to keep your medication cold eliminates many problems associated with the Ice pack and Thermal bag method, you no longer need to worry about Ice pack re-freezing or dumping ice water throughout the trip.  The Uber Chill mini fridge keeps medication cold at a constant temperature as long as the vehicle is powered and the fridge is connected to the cigarette plug using the 12v plug.  There is no need to worry about the temperature of your medicine going up when Ice or Ice packs melt, the fridge stays cold throughout the trip with no hassle.  The Uber Chill Mini fridge is also compact enough to fit in your vehicle without taking up too much room. While the Uber Chill Mini Fridge is compact on the outside it is very roomy on the inside, it can fit up to 6 standard size cans of soda (12oz cans, total volume is 4 liters), which should be more than enough room for your medication.  If you need a larger fridge the Uber Chill XL doubles the capacity of the Uber Chill, as it can fit up to 12 standard size cans of soda (12oz cans, total volume 9 liters).  Both Fridges use a state of the art thermoelectric system that is very powerful at keeping the fridge cold while operating at whisper quietness.

CoolMeds GO 2-8°C Medication Case

  • Validated for 2-8°C for 15 to 20hrs *
  • Perfect for long haul flights
  • Carries pens, bottles, vials and syringes
  • Integrated digital thermometer
  • Manufactured from excellent quality materials

The CoolMeds GO isothermal case has been specially designed and validated to safely transport temperature-sensitive 2-8°C medication for 15 to 20hrs * .

It's important 2-8°C medicine doesn't go over 8°C or below 2°C, where it is in danger of freezing, as this may affect the efficacy of the medication. There's enough to think about when you're travelling without also having to worry about whether your 2-8°C medication is being safely chilled along the way.

The CoolMeds GO was designed in response to a growing need for a 2-8°C case that could hold bulkier pens and bottles and could go the distance whilst remaining as compact as possible.

What makes the CoolMeds GO special is that it has a cool cage which holds chunky pens, bottles, vials and syringes that don't fit into most isothermal cases. The cool cage secures and protects the medication in the case and ensures the cold is spread evenly around the contents. Please refer to the diagram which gives an indication as to what can fit in the CoolMeds GO case.

The CoolMeds GO comes with an integrated digital thermometer which provides peace of mind as you'll be able to monitor the medication's temperature without having to open the case. The internal thermometer batteries (2 x AG13 batteries) are also included and if you need spare batteries, these can be bought at most hardware stores and supermarkets.

The case is made from high-quality material with multiple layers of insulation for maximum protection. The thermal sleeve absorbs the initial excess cold and distributes it evenly through to the contents of the cool cage and protects the medication from freezing or overcooling.

It comes with 2 specially shaped CoolMeds cold packs which encircle the cool cage and offer a long cooling effect and durability during frequent use. These can also be bought separately as it is good to have spares and they should be replaced every 24 months as the gel denatures over time.

It is highly recommended you do at least one trial run before your journey to make sure you are familiar with using the case   especially because conditioning the cold packs is the most important step.  It will also give you time to ask us any questions you might have.

The CoolMeds GO comes with a detailed user manual   which must be read before using the case. It can be helpful to take it with you to show airport security to prevent the case from being opened unnecessarily.

Before purchasing, please read the product user manual .

* This is affected by factors such as the ambient temperature; ambient humidity; how many times the case is opened, how long the case is left open, and so on. As such, the responsibility for maintaining the medication at the required temperature is solely that of the user and Syringa UK Ltd cannot be held responsible or liable.

Very nice product - like the thermometer and just a very nice, simple product to use. thanks.

I thought your customer service was excellent and really stood out, my questions were answered quickly and thoughtfully. The product itself is fantastic. The instructions are really easy to follow, the thermometer feature took away all my anxieties about travelling with medication. I didn't need to use it for the maximum amount of time suggested so I can't comment on that, but it was brilliant for my first journey and now I have no worries at all about travelling with my medication.

Healthcare in Moscow

travel medical fridge

This guide was written prior to Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine and is therefore not reflective of the current situation. Travel to Russia is currently not advisable due to the area's volatile political situation.

Healthcare in Moscow is organised by the Moscow Health Department. While public healthcare facilities are available, most expats seek out private healthcare at international medical centres. Expats are advised to take out private medical insurance if it is not provided to them by their company.

Subsidised healthcare is provided to everyone living in the country, paid for by the state and the mandatory health insurance system. That said, professionals in the state system are likely to speak little to no English.

There are several private medical centres in Moscow where English is spoken and where the healthcare is on par with expat standards. These clinics are generally very expensive, so it is highly recommended that expats take out private medical insurance to cover medical costs in Moscow. Most insurance coverage plans will also include evacuation cover for emergencies or life-threatening situations.

1. Overview

Brief introduction to the country and its reputation in medical tourism.

Russia, the world’s largest country by land area, offers a unique blend of history, culture, and cutting-edge technology. While Russia may not be the first destination that comes to mind when considering medical tourism, it has been gaining traction in this field. With substantial investments in healthcare infrastructure and medical research, Russia is slowly but steadily becoming a destination worth considering for various medical procedures. The country has a growing reputation for offering state-of-the-art medical treatments, often at a fraction of the cost you might pay in Western Europe or North America.

Historical and Cultural Significance in Medicine

Russia has a long-standing history of medical research and innovation. From the times of renowned scientists like Ivan Pavlov to contemporary achievements in cardiology and neurology, the country has been instrumental in contributing to global medical science. Russian medical institutions have also been engaged in pioneering work in fields like radiology, organ transplantation, and aerospace medicine, reflecting a cultural emphasis on scientific inquiry and innovation.

The Medical Landscape

The Russian healthcare system is a mix of public and private institutions, providing an array of treatments ranging from general medicine to specialized surgeries. While public healthcare is generally available to citizens, the growing private healthcare sector caters to both local and international patients, often providing services that match global standards.

What Draws Medical Tourists to Russia?

Medical tourists often find Russia appealing due to its advanced technology, specialized treatments, and relatively lower costs. Moreover, the prospect of combining medical treatment with a cultural experience is another attractive feature. Known for its grand architecture, vibrant arts scene, and rich history, Russia offers an all-around travel experience alongside high-quality medical care.

4. Cost Comparison

Comparative data.

Russia is committed to ensuring high standards of medical care, supported by its educational system that produces skilled doctors and medical professionals. While there might be variations in quality between rural and urban centers, most metropolitan areas have hospitals and clinics equipped with modern technology and well-trained staff.

Accreditation Systems and Regulatory Bodies

In Russia, medical facilities are generally regulated by the Ministry of Health. While not all hospitals may have international accreditations, most top institutions meet or exceed global healthcare standards.

Quality Checks and Patient Safety Protocols

Russian healthcare providers employ a variety of safety measures such as pre-surgical consultations, sterilization protocols, and rigorous post-operative care. They also tend to follow internationally recognized best practices to ensure patient safety.

Patient Rights

Patients have the right to quality healthcare, the right to choose their physician, and the right to confidentiality. These are enshrined in Russian medical law and are generally adhered to by healthcare providers.

6. Medical Visa Information

Guidelines and requirements.

To obtain a medical visa, you generally need a formal invitation from the Russian medical institution where you plan to receive treatment. Proof of financial stability and medical insurance are often required.

Duration, Documentation, and Application Process

The visa can be valid for up to 90 days, with possible extensions in case of medical necessity. Documentation usually includes your passport, invitation letter, visa application form, and photographs. Applications are typically processed within 10 to 20 business days, although expedited services are available for an additional fee.

Travel-related Advisories or Restrictions

It’s advisable to keep an eye on travel advisories and consult your home country's embassy or consulate for the most current information.

7. Cultural Considerations

Local customs and etiquette.

While Russia is generally welcoming to tourists, being aware of local customs and etiquette can enrich your experience. A basic understanding of Russian manners, such as greetings and proper attire, can be beneficial.

Language and Communication

While the primary language is Russian, English is often spoken in large hospitals and medical centers. Nonetheless, it's advisable to confirm the availability of English-speaking staff or interpreters.

Dietary Considerations

Russia offers a variety of cuisine options, though traditional foods might be heavy in meat and dairy. Vegetarian and vegan options are increasingly available, particularly in larger cities.

8. Travel & Accommodation

Popular areas to stay.

Moscow and St. Petersburg are popular destinations with proximity to top medical facilities. Both cities offer a range of lodging options, from luxury hotels to budget-friendly hostels.

Proximity to Medical Facilities

Medical centers are often well-connected by public transportation or are just a short drive away from popular accommodation areas.

Transportation and Infrastructure

Russia has an extensive public transportation network, including subways, buses, and taxis. Apps like Uber are also widely used.

Post-procedure Relaxation and Recuperation Spots

Russia is rich in natural beauty, from the beaches of Sochi to the serene landscapes of Siberia, offering plenty of options for post-procedure relaxation.

9. Legal & Ethical Considerations

Legal rights of patients.

Patients have the right to informed consent, confidentiality, and quality healthcare as per Russian laws.

Medical Malpractice Laws and Patient Recourse

In cases of medical malpractice, patients have the right to legal recourse. However, legal proceedings can be long and complex.

Ethical Considerations

Ethical standards are generally in line with international norms. Issues such as organ transplantation are strictly regulated.

10. Benefits & Risks

Among the benefits are lower costs, high-quality specialized treatments, and the opportunity to explore Russian culture and history.

Potential Risks

Language barriers and variations in quality between rural and urban healthcare centers are some of the risks involved. Always conduct thorough research and consultations before proceeding with any medical treatment.

11. Post-procedure Care

Post-operative care.

Russian medical facilities often offer robust post-operative care programs, including rehabilitation and follow-up appointments.

Availability and Quality of Rehabilitation Centers

Rehabilitation centers, especially in metropolitan areas, are well-equipped and staffed with trained medical professionals.

12. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Moscow extends a warm welcome to Indian travellers with enhanced infrastructure and hidden gems

Russia actively promoting moscow as a tourist destination for indian travellers, improving infrastructure and visa process..

Russia is making an active bid to attract Indian travellers to visit Moscow -- a huge megalopolis and the historical, political and spiritual heart of the Russian Federation. The Moscow City Tourism Committee is promoting the city not only as a cultural capital but also as a business hub as it plans to onboard trade partners, tourists and vacationers. Moscow has also strengthened cooperation with the tourism sectors of allied nations, hosting familiarization tours for delegates and arranging business trips to showcase the city's tourism potential.

Travelling to Moscow has now become easier as tourists from India and 54 other countries can apply for an electronic visa to enter Russia from August 1, 2023. (Unsplash)

To accommodate visitors, Moscow is improving its infrastructure: signs are now available in English and Chinese, all announcements on public transport are repeated in English, and hotels are also adapting to cater to the needs of guests from various countries and ensure a comfortable stay. "We are still on our way to restore the flow of Indian tourists in Moscow like it used to be before the pandemic," said Bulat Nurmukhanov, Head of International Cooperation Division of Moscow City Tourism Committee.

Bulat further said that before the pandemic, there was a steady growth of 12-15 per cent on a year-on-year basis. In the first half of the year, Moscow received about 20,000 Indians, compared to the same period a year ago, it is about 56 per cent higher. In a bid to make Moscow a must-visit destination, the committee is actively working on improving the infrastructure for international travellers. Moscow is spearheading the development of innovative standards in catering to the needs of foreign travellers.

Tourists arriving in the capital can stay in hotels of various price segments. They can savour traditional Russian cuisine, and can also indulge in a diverse culinary experience, with options ranging from authentic Indian delicacies to continental dishes prepared to the highest standards. In 2022, the number of foreign tourists who visited Moscow increased by 6.3 per cent compared to 2021, reaching a total of 1.7 million.

Travelling to Moscow has now become easier as tourists from India and 54 other countries can apply for an electronic visa to enter Russia from August 1, 2023. The impact of e-visa rollout would be available by October this year after the quarterly data from the Russian border control agencies is analysed, Bulat said.

Moreover, the Russian government is planning to come out with a virtual 'Foreign Tourist Card' that will enable cashless payments for various services. "The idea behind this card is, a person back home in India can remotely apply for this card and then he/she can transfer money from the personal bank account to this bank account," Bulat added.

Meanwhile, sources in the Indian Embassy in Moscow told reporters that the Indian tourism ministry as well as the governments of Goa and Kerala are slated to participate in roundtable discussions this month. There are also plans to engage social media influencers to improve the inward traffic to India. Before the pandemic, around 3 lakh Russian tourists visited India annually. The numbers are down to around 80,000-90,000 of late.

To facilitate easy visitor movement across the city, there is "Discover Moscow" -- a navigation and travel web portal about Moscow and "RUSSPASS travel service" -- a digital platform designed for planning trips across Russia. The Discover Moscow portal features descriptions of over 1,200 architectural landmarks in Moscow. The site provides news, digests with festival and event information and curated lists of exhibition venues.

By availing the RUSSPASS travel service, tourists can access all essential information for a trip to Moscow on the site, including visa and currency matters, accommodation and transportation options in the capital. The site also offers a trip builder feature, allowing tourists to select pre-designed city routes or create their own itinerary from their favourite locations. There are versions of the site in Russian, English, Spanish and Arabic.

On the cultural scene, Moscow boasts 10,000 cultural venues including theaters, museums, libraries, parks, cinemas, concert halls, and more. In the last decade, around 900 parks and green spaces have been renovated.
