Finger Eleven (formed in 1989) is an endearing Canadian alternative-rock band, best known for their breakthrough album “The Greyest of Blue Skies”, hailing from Burlington, Ontario, Canada.

Originally formed under the moniker Rainbow Butt Monkeys, the funk fusion band generated significant local buzz and a devoted following during their early years. Having played an early show at Lester B. Pearson High School’s Christmas concert in 1990, the band won a rock contest for 97.7 CHTZ, and used the money to record a debut album “Letters from Chutney” in 1995. In 1996 the group began to be managed by Coalition Entertainment, and opted to take their music in a more serious direction, later changing the name to Finger Eleven.

Formed of vocalist Scott Anderson, bassist Sean Anderson, drummer Rich Beddoe, and a pair of guitarists James Black and Rick Jackett, the band released their sophomore album “Tip” in 1997. Markedly far-removed from their earlier releases the album features a hard rock sound and resulted in Finger Eleven touring alongside Creed and Fuel in support of the record. The full-length “The Greyest of Blue Skies”, like its predecessor was produced by Our Lady Peace’s Arnold Lanni, and released in July 2000. Whilst failing to cause a stir in the U.S, “The Greyest of Blue Skies” represented their biggest Canadian release to date with over 50,000 units sold. Peaking at No. 17 on the Canadian Albums Chart, the record earned positive reviews aided by the singles “First Time”, “Drag You Down”, and “Bones + Joints”.

The band’s subsequent album, 2003’s “Finger Eleven” represented the band’s mainstream breakthrough with over 500,000 albums sold in the U.S. alone. Aided by appearances on the TV series “Scrubs”, “Smallville”, and “Third Watch” the record significantly increased Finger Eleven’s international exposure, later peaking at No. 4 on the Canadian Albums Chart. Following an extensive touring period which included parts of Europe, Australia, and North America, the group issued their fifth studio album “Them vs. You vs. Me” in March 2007. Led by the single “Paralyzer”, which topped the Canadian Single Chart, the record cemented the group’s popularity, and later won the 2008 Juno Award for Rock Album of the Year. The studio album “Life Turns Electric” appeared in 2010, after which drummer Rich Beddoe left the group and was replaced by Chris Powell.

Live reviews

A staple of the post-grunge alt-rock scene since 1989, Canadian rockers Finger Eleven (formerly known as- yes, seriously- the Rainbow Butt Monkeys), are still tearing it up on stages throughout the globe today. Their mix of headbanging riffs backed up by foot-stomping drumbeats gives their music a macho, thrusting drive- so it may be no surprise to hear that they recorded a song, 2002’s ‘Slow Chemical’, for WWE champion Kane as his entrance music, which was released on the album ‘The Punisher’ in 2004.

Aside from recording wrester-appropriate music and hitting Gold status for their albums (such as the self-titled release in 2003), Finger Eleven still tour frequently, and I was lucky enough to catch them at the Rock The Resort Ohio show a couple of years ago, where they played to a large crowd swaying, clapping along, and stomping their feet in the sunshine. The atmosphere was laid back and fun, and the band delivered a set full of crowd-pleasers, such as the funky, groove-ridden ‘Living In A Dream’, and the epic, hard-hitting hit single, ‘Paralyzer’. Vocalist Scott Anderson’s powerful tones matched the soulful heaviness of the guitars, and the show was a thoroughly enjoyable slice of straight up, solid rock & roll.

Ontario rock outfit Finger Eleven have released six albums since their debut 'Letter From Chuntey' and the following and reputation has been growing steadily over that time. Although you could argue that the single 'One Thing' remains the band's commercial peak, they have actually been developing and growing as a more sophisticated outfit year after year.

The musicianship is definitely top quality as the quintet arduously rehearse all the material new and old to the same high levels. The old tracks have been developed and altered over time and the favourites such as 'Good Times' have been given new instrumentals to further extend the performances. The crowd seems pretty pumped up through the night and Finger Eleven are known for having a dedicated following so there is no surprise almost every track has a number of fans singing back lyrics with Scott Anderson. This band has real history and as the crowd cheers them on following on from a sensational performance of 'Paralyser' you definitely feel that they are fully deserving to be standing on that stage to this large following.

Finger Eleven announces Greatest Hits North American Tour

Tour coincides with the band’s first-ever retrospective collection

Coinciding with the release of their new single “Together Right” and their first-ever career-retrospective collection, Greatest Hits , Finger Eleven is set to embark on an extensive North American tour. The multi-Platinum-selling band has announced the first batch of dates for the Greatest Hits North American Tour, kicking off this Saturday, June 17th in Beaumont, AB, and including stops in Vancouver, Omaha, Green Bay, Cincinnati and more.

“I’m excited to share that F11 is finally getting back on the road,” frontman Scott Anderson shares. “This time we’re hitting both Canada and the US, including places we haven’t been in years. We can’t wait to start making noise again. See you out there!”

The band also marks the official release for Greatest Hits , which is available on CD and digital formats now, with the band’s first-ever vinyl release to follow on August 25th. The 12-track collection includes the new single “Together Right,” alongside the multi-Platinum hit “Paralyzer” and Juno-nominated “One Thing,” plus chart-toppers like “Falling On” and “Living in a Dream.” As a bonus, the set also offers a previously unreleased cover of Pink Floyd’s “Welcome to the Machine” (a longtime live staple). “Together Right” represents the band’s first new single in more than seven years. The breakout hit debuted on the US Active Rock Top 40 chart and is currently charting No. 2 on Canada’s Active Rock charts.

A limited edition blue smoke pressing of Greatest Hits will be available exclusively via Finger Eleven’s website and Craft Recording’s store, and indie record stores will carry an exclusive yellow marble variant. Meanwhile, fans can pick up a collectible version of the CD featuring unique packaging at Walmart, along with a Walmart-exclusive purple smoke LP.

Finger Eleven, which currently includes original members Scott Anderson, Sean Anderson, James Black and Rick Jackett, plus drummer Steve Molella (who joined the band in 2013), released their critically acclaimed seventh studio album, Five Crooked Lines , in 2015. Since then, they have remained active on the road and enjoyed their legacy as one of Canada’s biggest bands. The band is among the top 75 best-selling artists of all time in Canada and “Paralyzer.” certified 5x Platinum—the only rock song with that distinction — is one of the greatest rock exports.

More tour dates to be announced this summer.

Anderson spoke to us about the tour and band’s first-ever vinyl release on a recent episode of The Music Universe Podcast .

One of Canada’s best-selling bands, Juno Award-winning rockers  Finger  Eleven  have built a long-lasting legacy with their genre-defying sound (spanning cathartic metal and alt-rock balladry to danceable funk, power pop, and beyond) that continues to keep fans on their toes. The band’s story begins in 1990, when  Scott Anderson  (vocals),  Rick Jackett  (guitar),  James Black  (vocals, guitar),  Sean Anderson  (bass), and drummer  Rob Gommerman  (later replaced by  Rich Beddoe ) began playing together in high school. In 1995, the Burlington, Ontario five-piece released their debut,  Letters from Chutney , under the moniker “Rainbow Butt Monkeys,” before recording their first LP as  Finger  Eleven,  Tip.   The album, which was produced by  Arnold Lanni  (Our Lady Peace, Simple Plan), caught the attention of  Wind-up Records , who signed the band in 1997 and re-released  Tip  a year later.

Non-stop touring with bands like Creed and Fuel, as well as a spot on the Vans Warped Tour helped the band break into the US market with singles like  “Above,”  a Top 40 hit on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart. The band continued the momentum with  The Greyest of Blue Skies   (2000). Featuring the singles  “First Time”  and  “Drag You Down , ”  the album landed at No.17 on the Canadian chart, where it was certified Gold. It would be their self-titled follow-up, however, that would make  Finger  Eleven international stars.

Produced by  Johnny K.  (Disturbed, Plain White T’s, Megadeth), 2003’s  Finger  Eleven marked a new era for the band. Praised by  AllMusic   as their  “most confident and sincere statement to date,”  the album found the band exploring a variety of new styles, including dance-rock ( “Good Times” )   and introspective, acoustic-driven balladry ( “One Thing” ). In addition to breaking into the Billboard 200,  Finger  Eleven  peaked at No.4 in Canada and topped Billboard’s Heatseekers Albums chart. The Juno-nominated “One Thing,” meanwhile, was a Top 20 hit in the US and landed in Canada’s Top 30. As a testament to the song’s broad appeal, it also peaked at No.2 on Billboard’s Adult Top 40, No. 11 on Mainstream Top 40, and No.5 on Alternative Airplay.

Finger  Eleven returned to the studio with Jonny K. for their fourth album,  Them vs. You vs. Me .  Released in 2007, it would become their most successful release to date, earning the band a  Juno Award for Rock Album of the Year  and peaking at No.2 in Canada. The funk-forward single “ Paralyzer ” also earned the band a Juno nod and multi-platinum sales on both sides of the border, hitting No.3 in Canada and peaking at No.6 after spending 52 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, a unique feat for a rock band. The single would go on to enjoy massive airplay setting a record for most consecutive weeks at No.1 by a Canadian band on the Canadian Rock charts. Other favorites from the album included the chart-topping power-pop track,  “Falling On,”  and the break-up anthem,  “I’ll Keep Your Memory Vague.”  The band snagged another Juno nomination with 2010’s  Life Turns Electric ,  which featured the dance-rock hit,  “Living in a Dream.”  The song, which topped the Canadian Rock chart, also landed at No.13 on Billboard’s Hot Rock Airplay and Hot Rock & Alternative Songs charts, thanks in part to its use as the official theme song for 2011’s  WWE Royal Rumble .  Another fan favorite track is  “Slow Chemical”  – a 2002 cover and remix of wrestler Kane’s entrance theme. The song was played during Kane’s appearances on  WrestleMania,  as well as in the video game  WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008  and the 2004 Marvel film,  The Punisher.

Finger  Eleven, which currently includes original members Scott Anderson, Sean Anderson, James Black, and Rick Jackett, plus drummer  Steve Molella  (who joined the band in 2013), released their critically-acclaimed seventh studio album,  Five Crooked Lines ,  in 2015. Since then, they have remained active on the road and enjoyed their legacy as one of Canada’s biggest bands.

Multi-platinum-selling band Finger Eleven has announced details of its Greatest Hits North American tour, which will being in August.

Following a standalone date in Beaumont, AB, yesterday (June 17), the group will hit the road in Barrie, ON, on August 4, continuing across Canada and the US for much of August and September. After a break in October, it will then reignite the tour for a handful of dates in November, wrapping up in North Battleford, SK, on November 28.

“I’m excited to share that F11 is finally getting back on the road,” frontman Scott Anderson said in a press release. “This time, we’re hitting both Canada and the US, including places we haven’t been in years. We can’t wait to start making noise again. See you out there!”

Tickets are on sale now. For more details and to purchase tickets, visit Finger Eleven’s official website . More tour dates are expected to be announced this summer.

The tour news coincides with the release of the band’s first-ever retrospective collection, Greatest Hits . Available now on CD and digital formats, the 12-track compilation includes the new single “Together Right,” plus the multi-platinum hit “Paralyzer” and the Juno-nominated “One Thing,” alongside chart-toppers like “Falling On” and “Living In A Dream.” The new album also treats fans to a previously unreleased cover of Pink Floyd ’s “Welcome To The Machine,” which has long been a staple of the band’s live set.

A limited edition Blue Smoke pressing of Greatest Hits will be available exclusively via Finger Eleven’s official website and Craft Recordings , while indie record stores will carry an exclusive Yellow Marble variant. Meanwhile, fans can pick up a collectible version of the CD featuring unique packaging at Walmart , along with a Walmart-exclusive Purple Smoke LP. The vinyl edition will be released on August 25.

Last month, Finger Eleven shared the official music video for “Together Right,” which opened in a factory, as uniformly-dressed workers move like cogs in a machine. But it soon becomes clear that not everyone is happy in their monotonous existence.

“The video takes place in a world where everything is the same,” explained lead guitarist James Black. “Efficiency and conformity are mistaken for unity. But real connection, between two people, is WAY more powerful than people idly following a routine.”
