Anthrax Cancel European Tour Due to “Out of Control” Costs

The post Anthrax Cancel European Tour Due to “Out of Control” Costs appeared first on Consequence .

Anthrax have canceled the European leg of their 2022 tour due to “logistical issues” and “costs that are out of our control.”

The news was shared on Anthrax’s Facebook page, much to the dismay of their European fans — some of whom took to the comments section to offer their two cents.

Read the band’s statement: “Sadly due to ongoing logistical issues and 2022 costs that are out of our control, we have no other option but to cancel the European leg of our upcoming 2022 tour. We will however be coming to the UK as scheduled. Tickets can be refunded at point of purchase.”

When one commenter tried to blame the cancellation on poor ticket sales, Anthrax replied, clarifying their initial statement: “Rest assured, there were zero issues with sales. Check out the news over there for a few minutes. We absolutely adore the European fans and love playing there and a re very sad not to come. It doesn’t work ‘example’ when tour buses double and triple in cost.”

Anthrax are likely referring to the rising cost of goods and services, especially in the energy sector, as Europe has been hit with record high inflation  in recent months.

A string of UK dates beginning September 27th in Birmingham, England, and running through an October 8th show in London remain on the band’s schedule (get tickets here ). The European jaunt would have run from October 10th trough November 5th.

Anthrax perform at Coney Island Amphitheater on August 26, 2022 in New York City.

If things had gone to plan, Anthrax would be back home by now basking in the glow of their first major European tour since 2019. But instead the group were forced to cancel 20 dates on their 40th anniversary Euro jaunt, instead playing just 8 gigs in the UK before packing things up.

Lorde

Lorde Details the Harsh Reality of Touring in 2022: ‘Things Are at an Almost Unprecedented Level of…

Trending on billboard.

“When [we] looked at it, we said, ‘All right. There’s better times ahead.’ And that’s the way to look at it now. Look, heating costs and everybody’s gotta put food on the table. I get it right now. So it’s just a really hard time for everybody.”

Bello said he can’t wait to return to Europe “the next time around,” but at this point no new dates have been announced for the run that was slated to run from Oct. 11-Nov. 5. Anthrax played a run of UK dates from Sept. 27-Oct. 8 after announcing on Aug. 31 that, “sadly due to ongoing logistical issues and 2022 costs that are out of our control, we have no other option but to cancel the European leg of our upcoming 2022 tour.”

Anthrax are a month a raft of acts who’ve opened up about the financial and logistical hardships of touring right now. Recently Lorde said things are “at an almost unprecedented level of difficulty” out there on the road, while earlier this year a number of smaller and medium-sized acts told Billboard that “ out of control ” gas prices were seriously eating into profit margins.

Anthrax Cancels European Tour Because of Costs That Are “Out of Control”

Jacob Uitti

Updated:

Heavy metal bands. They’re just like us.

Videos by American Songwriter

Anthrax recently announced that they’re forced to cancel a big upcoming 2022 European tour because of financial constraints and “out of control” costs.

Said the band, “We have no other option but to cancel.”

Who among us hasn’t felt our budgets weren’t big enough to travel from Paris to Prague and more?

Because of “logistical issues” the band has pulled out. The group shared the news on their Facebook  page, which caused many European fans to bemoan the decision.

“Sadly due to ongoing logistical issues and 2022 costs that are out of our control, we have no other option but to cancel the European leg of our upcoming 2022 tour,” the band wrote. “We will however be coming to the UK as scheduled. Tickets can be refunded at point of purchase.”

A commenter attempted to claim the decision was based on poor ticket sales. But Anthrax jumped back into the thread to make it clear that that’s not the case.

Added the band, “Rest assured, there were zero issues with sales. Check out the news over there for a few minutes. We absolutely adore the European fans and love playing there and are very sad not to come. It doesn’t work ‘example’ when tour buses double and triple in cost.”

While the band didn’t get specific on what costs proved to be prohibitive, more than likely it has to do with energy costs, which have risen due to record high inflation in the region.

Though the band is cancelling gigs, they aren’t cancelling all of their European shows. U.K. dates spanning September 27 in Birmingham through October 8 in London are still set (and fans can get tickets  HERE ). The European dates would have run until November 5.

The band recently finished a North American tour.

Anthrax cancel European tour dates again

New York thrash kings Anthrax cancel their summer European festival run, having also cancelled European headline shows in 2022

The band Anthrax against a cream background

Anthrax have apparently pulled the plug on their scheduled summer festivals run in Europe.

Social media posts from Wacken, Slovenia's MetalDays festival, the Czech Republic's Brutal Assault festival and Belgium's Alcatraz festival all state that the band have withdrawn from their events.

Last year, the New Yorkers cancelled 20 shows in Europe which had been booked to follow their 40th anniversary UK tour. At the time, bassist Frank Bello explained to TotalRock radio that the cancellations were forced upon them due to spiralling costs. "When I saw the numbers, they were literally triple what they originally started at," said Bello. "We would be coming home at such a loss. You don't mind a little bit of a loss just to play to the fans, but such a loss — we would have been really bad off for a while. So it didn't make sense.

"We did a great UK run. I felt it was a little short, even though we did a lot of places. But I wanna come back and just play the way we should be playing.

"I know we're gonna be back, and with a vengeance. So it's gonna be a lot of fun the next time around. I look forward to playing to all UK and Europe." In December, Scott Ian's band withdrew from this summer's Bloodstock festival, citing “logistical issues beyond our control”.

The New York thrash pioneers had been announced to play as special guests to Meshuggah on the Ronnie James Dio main stage on August 12.

The band have yet to make a statement on their latest round of cancellations.

Anthrax cancel 2022 European tour due to “logistical issues” and high costs

"We will however be coming to the UK as scheduled"

anthrazx 40th anniversary celebration

Anthrax have cancelled their 2022 European headline tour , citing logistical and financial issues.

The New York heavy metal band had been due to play numerous shows across Europe following their upcoming run of dates in the UK, which is still set to begin as planned on September 27.

Taking to their official social media channels, however, Anthrax wrote: “Sadly due to ongoing logistical issues and 2022 costs that are out of our control, we have no other option but to cancel the European leg of our upcoming 2022 tour.

“We will however be coming to the UK as scheduled.”

Ticketholders can get a full refund at their post of purchase – see the announcement post below.

As Consequence Of Sound notes, one fan in the comments section suggested that the cancellation could have been a result of low ticket sales.

Anthrax replied: “Rest assured, there were zero issues with sales. Check out the news over there for a few minutes. We absolutely adore the European fans and love playing there and are very sad not to come.

“It doesn’t work ‘example’ when tour buses double and triple in cost.”

The remaining 2022 concerts mark the band’s 40th anniversary. Announcing the tour last year, drummer Charlie Benante promised that Anthrax would “make sure that every show will be an eventful one”.

He continued: “We won’t just be playing four decades of songs to celebrate our ongoing 40th anniversary – hey, we’ll be giving YOU some history! – but we just might have some brand new ones for you as well. Can’t wait to see all your happy, smiling faces!!!”

Anthrax cancels European tour, will still play UK

Buddy Iahn

Group cites logistical issues and inflation as the cause

Anthrax has canceled its forthcoming European leg of its 40th Anniversary Tour due to “logistical issues” and inflation. The group shared the news on social media on Wednesday (Aug 31st), stating they’ll still perform in The UK.

“Sadly due to ongoing logistical issues and 2022 costs that are out of our control, we have no other option but to cancel the European leg of our upcoming 2022 tour. We will however be coming to the UK as scheduled,” the write. “Tickets can be refunded at point of purchase.”

The group will kick off The UK run on September 27th in Birmingham, UK before wrapping October 8th in London. Dates were scheduled for continental Europe through November, but those have been canceled.

Last month, the thrash metal icons canceled two shows on its tour with Black Label Society and Hatebreed due to an undisclosed “medical concern.” That US trek has just wrapped.

Earlier this summer, the group released its 40th anniversary livestream , called Anthrax XL , on Blu-ray, CD and digitally. The entire two hour performance, plus never-before-seen rehearsal footage and Scott Ian’s New York City “walking tour” where he points out the spots that played a role in Anthrax’s formation and history, is now available as a 3 disc Blu-ray/CD combo pack via Megaforce Records.

Anthrax has also introduced a series now sold out signature whiskeys and bourbons and partnered with the Stockholm-based NEZUMI Studios for a high-end, limited edition Baleine dive watch.

Last year, Z2 Comics’ released “ Among the Living ” graphic novel with a track-by-track storyline inspired by Anthrax’s iconic 1987 album, Among The Living . The book pulls together a “who’s who” of names from the worlds of comics and music who created “bubble dialogue” and original artwork to express what the songs meant to them.

Taking advantage of COVID-19’s prohibition of concert touring, the band has been hard at work writing the next Anthrax album.

In 1991, the band helped break down race and genre barriers when they collaborated with Public Enemy on the track “Bring The Noise,” and was the first metal band to have its music heard on Mars when NASA played “Got The Time” to wake up the Mars Rover in 2012. Along with Metallica, Slayer, and Megadeth, Anthrax is a card-carrying member of The Big Four, the four bands that defined the speed/thrash/metal genre.

Helmet has cancelled its 2024 North American tour.

Helmet was once big enough that the Loudwire.com referred to the band as “post-hardcore icons,” this week.

But that apparently wasn’t enough for the band which rose to fame through the early-to-mid ‘90s to cash in on for its current tour. So, per Loudwire , the band is cancelling its upcoming North American tour.

“The cancellation is caused by a mix of significant financial concerns and lower than expected ticket sales which is a common problem for many artists this year,” the band told Loudwire. “We look forward to getting back out on the road in 2025.”

Among the dates cancelled was a Sept. 26 stop at Lovedraft’s Brewing in Mechanicsburg.

While the North American slate is off, the site reported that the European tour will go on for the band.

Founder and frontman Page Hamilton told Loudwire , “As much as we’d love to be getting back out on the road and playing, this one was not lining up well for us. We’re excited about upcoming November/December European tour which is looking great and we will reconvene in 2025 for more US dates.”

Helmet began playing in 1989 and played through 1998 before calling it quits. The band reunited in 2003 and has been together since with its last album, “Left,” being released in 2023.

Jennifer Lopez cancels summer tour: 'I am completely heartsick'

Following some date cancellations and a rebranding, the singer has nixed this year's performances altogether.

Christian Holub is a writer covering comics and other geeky pop culture. He's still mad about 'Firefly' getting canceled.

Don't expect to see Jennifer Lopez on stage this summer, because the pop star has officially canceled her upcoming tour . In a statement on Friday, LiveNation said that Lopez is instead "taking time off to be with her children, family and close friends."

"I am completely heartsick and devastated about letting you down," Lopez wrote in a note to fans on her official website . "Please know that I wouldn't do this if I didn't feel that it was absolutely necessary. I promise I will make it up to you and we will all be together again. I love you all so much. Until next time..."

This Is Me...Now was released in February of this year, and was as inspired by her rekindled romance with husband Ben Affleck as 2002's This Is Me...Then was by their previous relationship. The new album was accompanied by an ambitious, self-funded, cameo-filled musical film called This Is Me...Now: A Love Story .

This summer's tour was supposed to be the final piece of the new work, but it faced some struggles. Back in March, multiple late-August tour dates were canceled. This inspired speculation that the cancellations were due to low ticket sales, though sources told Entertainment Weekly at the time that it was actually the result of a "logistical issue." Then, in April, the tour was rebranded around greatest hits from across Lopez's whole career rather than focusing primarily on the latest album.

There have also been rumors swirling that the marriage between Affleck and Lopez (the inspiration behind This Is Me...Now ) was in trouble. Earlier this month, PEOPLE reported that the two have been living in separate residences and attending events like the Met Gala and The Roast of Tom Brady by themselves. However, the couple were photographed together on Thursday, May 30, as they attended events to celebrate the graduation of Affleck's daughter Violet.

When Lopez was recently asked about the state of their marriage while promoting her new Netflix film Atlas , she brushed aside the concerns . And in an interview with EW , her costar Sterling K. Brown said that Affleck helped Lopez on the movie: "Sometimes, the reactions that you got from her were because she was listening to her husband's voice."

ANTHRAX Cancels Dallas Concert 'Due To A Medical Concern'

ANTHRAX has canceled its performance tonight (Monday, August 8) at the South Side Ballroom in Dallas, Texas as part of the band's North American tour with BLACK LABEL SOCIETY and HATEBREED .

Earlier today, ANTHRAX released the following statement via social media: "We are sorry to let you know that due to a medical concern, ANTHRAX have to cancel tonight's show in Dallas. BLACK LABEL SOCIETY and HATEBREED are still performing tonight, come and rock out with them! Refunds are available until box office closes at (9 p.m.)".

ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian added: "We've waited so long to be able to celebrate our 40th anniversary and are so disappointed that we won't be able to do so tonight — frankly, it blows. Thank you for your support and understanding, and stay safe."

ANTHRAX kicked off its tour with BLACK LABEL SOCIETY on July 26 at Van Buren in Phoenix, Arizona.

ANTHRAX 's setlist on the trek includes the addition of the John Bush -era track "Only" , which hadn't been performed live since 2011.

"Only" originally appeared on 1993's "Sound Of White Noise" , one of four albums Bush recorded with ANTHRAX during his 13-year tenure with the band.

ANTHRAX 's tour with BLACK LABEL SOCIETY will wrap up in Philadelphia at the Fillmore on Sunday, August 28. Both bands are playing headline sets. HATEBREED , celebrating the 20th anniversary of the "Perseverance" album, is the special guest.

ANTHRAX 's latest album, "For All Kings" , which features current singer Joey Belladonna , came out in February 2016 via Nuclear Blast .

ANTHRAX celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2021 with a number of special activities and events. Formed by Ian and bassist Dan Lilker in Queens, New York on July 18, 1981, ANTHRAX was one of the first thrash metal bands to emerge from the East Coast and quickly became regarded as a leader in the genre alongside METALLICA , SLAYER and MEGADETH .

Active over the past five decades, ANTHRAX has released 11 studio albums, been awarded multiple gold and platinum certifications, received six Grammy nominations, toured the world since 1984 playing thousands of shows, including headlining Madison Square Garden and playing Yankee Stadium with the "Big Four".

"For All Kings" was called by some critics ANTHRAX 's strongest album to date. Its arrival followed a five-year period during which the group experienced a rebirth of sorts, beginning with ANTHRAX 's inclusion on the "Big Four" tour, and continuing with the release of comeback LP "Worship Music" .

We are sorry to let you know that due to a medical concern, Anthrax have to cancel tonight’s show in Dallas. Black Label... Posted by Anthrax on  Monday, August 8, 2022

TLC put performing on hold this weekend, after singer Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins landed in the hospital after experiencing some unpleasant symptoms.

The “Waterfalls” and “No Scrubs” duo, comprised of T-Boz and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, was set to bring its hits to the Great New York State Fair Friday evening but called off its performance shortly before showtime. “Tonight’s TLC performance has been canceled due to T-Boz experiencing symptoms related to food poisoning,” the fair announced Friday on Instagram .

“We wish her a quick recovery,” the statement added.

A day later, TLC shed more light on its reasons for canceling the state fair gig, denying that T-Boz had food poisoning. T-Boz, 54, “experienced sudden and severe nausea, vomiting, and intense abdominal cramps,” TLC said in an Instagram story statement, reposted Saturday by the Great New York State Fair.

Queens of the Stone Age cancels remainder of 2024 shows due to Josh Homme’s illness

Queens of the Stone Age cancels its remaining 2024 shows because of singer Josh Homme’s ongoing medical issues: ‘no choice but to prioritize his health.’

Aug. 23, 2024

“She was immediately seen by a doctor and subsequently taken to the hospital for further evaluation,” the statement said. “Last evening, Tionne was diagnosed with a severe abdominal blockage, necessitating the cancellation of both the Syracuse and Foxwood performances.”

After the Great New York State Fair, TLC was set to join Shaggy for a Saturday performance at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Conn. T-Boz remained “under medical supervision” and was expected to be released Sunday, the statement said.

A representative for TLC did not immediately respond to The Times’ request for comment Monday.

News of TLC’s last-minute cancellations and T-Boz’s hospitalization over the weekend was met with mixed reactions on social media. Several Instagram users slammed the duo for allegedly calling off their state fair show “ 30 minutes ” before the advertised start time. But others voiced support for T-Boz.

Usher and TLC singer Rozonda ‘Chilli’ Thomas’ romance in the early aughts could have ended in marriage. But her rejection left the ‘Yeah!’ singer in a ‘great deal of pain.’

“We hope all the clowns in the other post making fun of her don’t ever have to experience that kind of medical emergency,” one fan wrote Saturday.

TLC apologized to fans and event promoters for the cancellations and said it is “committed to rescheduling” the canceled shows. The group said it considered the advice of T-Boz’s physician, “who required [T-Boz] to stay in the hospital overnight to undergo a CT scan to assess the severity of her condition.”

“The group appreciates the understanding and support,” the statement said.
