What to Expect

The tour starts in the lobby of your Hotel. One of our friendly staff will meet you there according to the pick-up schedule previously sent to you. 

Upon arrival at Chichén Itzá, one of our expert guides will guide you to the wonders of this marvelous archaeological zone. Skip the lines and visit Chichen Itza, one of the largest and most prominent Maya cities. Nowadays, Chichen Itza is undoubtedly the best-preserved Maya site on the Yucatan peninsula. It was recently declared one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Different architectural styles are seen in Chichen Itza. Most famous landmarks are the Temple of Kukulkan (“El Castillo”), the Ballgame Court, the Platform of the Skulls, the Temple of the Jaguar, the Observatory, the One Thousand Columns, and the Sacred Cenote.

Then forget about the heat and jump into the refreshing waters of a real Cenote. Our sinkhole visited is near the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza, on the highway to Valladolid.

The Cenote is open to the sky, with the water level about 26 meters (85 ft) below ground level. There is a carved stairway down to a swimming platform. The Cenote is about 60 meters (200 ft) in diameter and about 40 meters (130 ft) deep. Cenotes are sacred to the Maya People, and the Maya Civilization used this Cenote for both relaxation and ritual services also. 

After refreshing in the Cenote, we will have a buffet lunch and then continue to Valladolid to get a glimpse of contemporary Mexico. Valladolid is undeniably one of the most beautiful colonial cities in Mexico due to the majesty of its temples and the ancestry of its old neighborhoods. We will spend 30 – 40 minutes for you to get to know the city.

Cenote Ik-Kil

Cenote Ik-Kil captivates with its remarkable beauty. What’s a “cenote”?

Cenotes are underground caves that contain deep waters, created where a cave ceiling has collapsed. Cenotes were the Mayan civilization's only source of water in the jungle and are considered sacred by the Mayan people. The Mayans perceived these natural pools as an entrance to their "underworld" or "Xibalba" where their gods still exist and their spirits live after death.

Can you swim in a cenote?

In most of them yes! You’re always welcome to swim in a cenote, but some may be restricted to the public due safety measures. You may also encounter cenotes like the Sacred Cenote in Chichén Itzá, that hold a very special value for the culture and are not open for swimming.

How deep are cenotes?

Some cenotes in the Riviera Maya and Yucatan can go as deep as 10 to 40 meters (32 to 131 ft).
